¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

²³ Now the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man inquired of the word of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

¹¹ (38:12) My friends and my companions stand aloof from my plague; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

⁵ Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a familiar friend; keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. ⁶ For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²¹ And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.

¹⁸ I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen; but that the scripture may be fulfilled; He that eateth bread with me lifted up his heel against me.
