¹ And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint him.

¹⁴ And they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers' art; and they made a very great burning for him.

¹ Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. ² And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven, came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat upon it. ³ His appearance was as lightning, and his raiment white as snow: ⁴ and for fear of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead men. ⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye, for I know that ye seek Jesus, who hath been crucified. ⁶ He is not here, for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. ⁷ And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead, and lo, he goeth before you into Galilee, there shall ye see him; lo, I have told you. ⁸ And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word. ⁹ And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. ¹⁰ Then saith Jesus unto them, Fear not; go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

³ And while he was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster cruse of ointment of pure nard very costly, and she brake the cruse, and poured it over his head.

⁸ What she had, this woman hath done, she hath anointed my body beforehand for the burying.

⁴⁰ And there were also women beholding from afar; among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome,

⁴² And when even was now come, because it was the Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

⁴ and looking up, they see that the stone is rolled back; for it was exceeding great. ⁵ And entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, arrayed in a white robe, and they were amazed.

⁸ And they went out, and fled from the tomb, and trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.

⁵⁴ And it was the day of the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

⁵⁶ And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

²⁵ These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

³¹ The Jews therefore, because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross upon the sabbath (for the day of that sabbath was a high day), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

³⁹ And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. ⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

¹ Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb. ² She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him. ³ Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb. ⁴ And they ran both together; and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the tomb, ⁵ and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths lying, yet entered he not in. ⁶ Simon Peter therefore also cometh, following him, and entered into the tomb, and he beholdeth the linen cloths lying, ⁷ and the napkin, that was upon his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself. ⁸ Then entered in therefore the other disciple also, who came first to the tomb, and he saw, and believed. ⁹ For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. ¹⁰ So the disciples went away again unto their own home.
