¹ Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine; forsake ye not my teaching. ³ For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother. ⁴ And he taught me, and said unto me: 'Let thy heart hold fast my words, keep my commandments, and live; ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding; forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth; ⁶ Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee; love her, and she will keep thee. ⁷ The beginning of wisdom is: Get wisdom; yea, with all thy getting get understanding. ⁸ Extol her, and she will exalt thee; she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. ⁹ She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow on thee.' ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness. ¹² When thou goest, thy step shall not be straitened; and if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. ¹³ Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go; keep her, for she is thy life. ¹⁴ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and walk not in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass on. ¹⁶ For they sleep not, except they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. ¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. ¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they know not at what they stumble. ²⁰ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. ²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart. ²² For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. ²³ Above all that thou guardest keep thy heart; for out of it are the issues of life. ²⁴ Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. ²⁵ Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. ²⁶ Make plain the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. ²⁷ Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.

¹¹ (34:12) Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

⁸ Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;

¹ My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and lay up my commandments with thee; ² So that thou make thine ear attend unto wisdom, and thy heart incline to discernment; ³ Yea, if thou call for understanding, and lift up thy voice for discernment; ⁴ If thou seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ My son, attend unto my wisdom; incline thine ear to my understanding;

²⁰ My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother; ²¹ Bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck. ²² When thou walkest, it shall lead thee, when thou liest down, it shall watch over thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. ²³ For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;

⁴ Say unto wisdom: 'Thou art my sister', and call understanding thy kinswoman;

³² Now therefore, ye children, hearken unto me; for happy are they that keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. ³⁴ Happy is the man that hearkeneth to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whoso findeth me findeth life, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. ³⁶ But he that misseth me wrongeth his own soul; all they that hate me love death.'

²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

¹⁷ Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart unto my knowledge.

¹¹ as ye know how we dealt with each one of you, as a father with his own children, exhorting you, and encouraging you, ¹² and charging you, to the end that ye should walk worthily of God, who calleth you into his own kingdom and glory.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them.

² My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew; as the small rain upon the tender grass, and as the showers upon the herb.

⁹ And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve Him with a whole heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts; if thou seek Him, He will be found of thee; but if thou forsake Him, He will cast thee off for ever.

¹⁹ But if ye turn away, and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

⁴ And thou hast said: 'My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in Thine eyes.'

³ My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart; and that which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

¹ (49:1) For the Leader; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. (49:2) Hear this, all ye peoples; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world, ² (49:3) Both low and high, rich and poor together. ³ (49:4) My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.

³⁰ (89:31) If his children forsake My law, and walk not in Mine ordinances; ³¹ (89:32) If they profane My statutes, and keep not My commandments; ³² (89:33) Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things, and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall utter truth, and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness, there is nothing perverse or crooked in them. ⁹ They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

²⁰ Have not I written unto thee excellent things of counsels and knowledge; ²¹ That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou mightest bring back words of truth to them that send thee?

¹⁶ Jesus therefore answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me. ¹⁷ If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself.

⁶ If thou put the brethren in mind of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which thou hast followed until now:

⁹ holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers.

²⁴ And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her; and she bore a son, and called his name Solomon. And the LORD loved him; ²⁵ and He sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he called his name Jedidiah, for the LORD'S sake.

¹³ Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him: Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying: Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign? ¹⁴ Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.' ¹⁵ And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber. - Now the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. - ¹⁶ And Bath-sheba bowed, and prostrated herself unto the king. And the king said: 'What wouldest thou?' ¹⁷ And she said unto him: 'My lord, thou didst swear by the LORD thy God unto thy handmaid: Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

⁵ And these were born unto him in Jerusalem: Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel;

⁵ And David said: 'Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the LORD must be exceeding magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries; I will therefore make preparation for him.' So David prepared abundantly before his death.

¹ And David the king said unto all the congregation: 'Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

²³ O LORD, I know that man's way is not his own; it is not in man to direct his steps as he walketh.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto Me because they have thrust him through; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one toward another. Set not your mind on high things, but condescend to things that are lowly. Be not wise in your own conceits.

¹⁹ For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which He hath spoken of him.'

³ After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do; and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their statutes. ⁴ Mine ordinances shall ye do, and My statutes shall ye keep, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. ⁵ Ye shall therefore keep My statutes, and Mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them: I am the LORD.

⁹ Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but make them known unto thy children and thy children's children;

⁶ And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart;

¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as He hath spoken concerning thee. ¹² Only the LORD give thee discretion and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel; that so thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. ¹³ Then shalt thou prosper, if thou observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong, and of good courage; fear not, neither be dismayed. ¹⁴ Now, behold, in my straits I have prepared for the house of the LORD a hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight, for it is in abundance; timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto. ¹⁵ Moreover there are workmen with thee in abundance, hewers and workers of stone and timber, and all men that are skilful in any manner of work; ¹⁶ of the gold, the silver, and the brass, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.'

¹¹ Thy word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.

¹ My son, forget not my teaching; but let thy heart keep my commandments;

² Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of thine eye.

⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

³ Incline your ear, and come unto Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is life eternal; the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak.

⁴ And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but nurture them in the chastening and admonition of the Lord.

⁵ having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice, and, I am persuaded, in thee also.

¹⁵ And that from a babe thou hast known the sacred writings which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ and having been made perfect, he became unto all them that obey him the author of eternal salvation,

² And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

¹¹ My foot hath held fast to His steps, His way have I kept, and turned not aside.

¹⁸ (44:19) Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from Thy path;

⁵¹ The proud have had me greatly in derision; yet have I not turned aside from Thy law.

¹⁵⁷ Many are my persecutors and mine adversaries; yet have I not turned aside from Thy testimonies.

²² 'How long, ye thoughtless, will ye love thoughtlessness? And how long will scorners delight them in scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn you at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

¹³ Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that obtaineth understanding. ¹⁴ For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honour. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is every one that holdest her fast.

⁵ O ye thoughtless, understand prudence, and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.

¹⁶ Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he hath no understanding?

¹ He that separateth himself seeketh his own desire, and snarlest against all sound wisdom.

⁸ He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

²³ Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

⁵ But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.

¹⁰ For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul; ¹¹ Discretion shall watch over thee, discernment shall guard thee; ¹² To deliver thee from the way of evil, from the men that speak froward things;

²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart. ²² For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹⁶ (49:17) Be not thou afraid when one waxeth rich, when the wealth of his house is increased; ¹⁷ (49:18) For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; his wealth shall not descend after him. ¹⁸ (49:19) Though while he lived he blessed his soul: 'Men will praise thee, when thou shalt do well to thyself'; ¹⁹ (49:20) It shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see the light. ²⁰ (49:21) Man that is in honour understandeth not; he is like the beasts that perish.

¹⁰⁴ From Thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

⁶ The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapour driven to and fro; they that seek them seek death.

⁴ I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards; ⁵ I made me gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit; ⁶ I made me pools of water, to water therefrom the wood springing up with trees; ⁷ I acquired men-servants and maid-servants, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all that were before me in Jerusalem; ⁸ I gathered me also silver and gold, and treasure such as kings and the provinces have as their own; I got me men-singers and women-singers, and the delights of the sons of men, women very many. ⁹ So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem; also my wisdom stood me in stead.

⁸ There is one that is alone, and he hath not a second; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour, neither is his eye satisfied with riches: 'for whom then do I labour, and bereave my soul of pleasure?' This also is vanity, yea, it is a grievous business.

¹² For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence; but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.

¹⁶ Then said I: 'Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.' ¹⁷ The words of the wise spoken in quiet are more acceptable than the cry of a ruler among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroyeth much good.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid, and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. ⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls; ⁴⁶ who, having found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give in exchange for his life?

⁴² but one thing is needful; for Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee, and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?

⁸ Yea indeed, therefore I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord; for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but refuse, that I may gain Christ,

³⁰ Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, saith: I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before Me for ever; but now the LORD saith: Be it far from Me: for them that honour Me I will honour, and they that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

⁵ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said: 'Ask what I shall give thee.' ⁶ And Solomon said: 'Thou hast shown unto Thy servant David my father great kindness, according as he walked before Thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in. ⁸ And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people which Thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give Thy servant therefore an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?' ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him: 'Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern justice; ¹² behold, I have done according to thy word: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. ¹³ And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honour - so that there hath not been any among the kings like unto thee - all thy days.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit honour; but as for the fools, they carry away shame.

⁴ The reward of humility is the fear of the LORD, even riches, and honour, and life.

³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn the many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

⁹ For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

²² So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.

³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, it is found in the way of righteousness.

⁵ In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of His people;

⁹ In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety, not with braided hair, and gold or pearls or costly raiment, ¹⁰ but (which becometh women professing godliness) through good works.

⁷ Thou madest him a little lower than the angels, Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, ⁸ Thou didst put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he subjected all things unto him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him. ⁹ But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man.

⁴ but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

⁴ And when the chief Shepherd shall be manifested, ye shall receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away.

²¹ He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.

¹⁶ Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God commanded thee; that thy days may be long, and that it may go well with thee, upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

² that thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

²² Receive, I pray thee, instruction from His mouth, and lay up His words in thy heart.

¹ My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and lay up my commandments with thee;

² For length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to thee.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honour.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold.

²⁰ (9:19) Yea, hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of His mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation:

³² What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness, and no man receiveth his witness. ³³ He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to this, that God is true.

¹³ And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when ye received from us the word of the message, even the word of God, ye accepted it not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.

¹⁵ Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief:

⁵ Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the midst of the land whither ye go in to possess it.

²³ Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and the right way. ²⁴ Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things He hath done for you.

³ He restoreth my soul; He guideth me in straight paths for His name's sake.

⁴ Show me Thy ways, O LORD; teach me Thy paths. ⁵ Guide me in Thy truth, and teach me; for Thou art the God of my salvation; for Thee do I wait all the day.

⁹ And besides that Koheleth was wise, he also taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

¹⁰ and said, O full of all guile and all villany, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

³⁷ Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.

⁷ The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon the toils.

³⁶ (18:37) Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.

¹¹ For He will give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. ¹² They shall bear thee upon their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

¹⁶⁵ Great peace have they that love Thy law; and there is no stumbling for them.

²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thou shalt not dash thy foot.

⁹ Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.

³² Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling, ³³ even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense; And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.

⁸ and, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, for they stumble at the word, being disobedient; whereunto also they were appointed.

¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

²⁶ (32:27) And he said: 'Let me go, for the day breaketh.' And he said: 'I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.'

⁴⁷ For it is no vain thing for you; because it is your life, and through this thing ye shall prolong your days upon the land, whither ye go over the Jordan to possess it.'

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is every one that holdest her fast.

⁴ Scarce had I passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. ²⁸ And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they were going; and he made as though he would go further. ²⁹ And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to abide with them.

³⁹ And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did. ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them; and he abode there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed because of his word, ⁴² and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world—the Christ.

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

⁴² And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.

²³ who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord:

²¹ prove all things, hold fast that which is good,

¹³ I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's throne is, and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith in the days wherein Antipas was my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwelleth.

¹¹ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony, and they loved not their life even unto death.

¹ Happy is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the wicked, nor stood in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seat of the scornful.

⁴ I have not sat with men of falsehood; neither will I go in with dissemblers. ⁵ I hate the gathering of evil doers, and will not sit with the wicked.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

¹⁵ My son, walk not thou in the way with them, restrain thy foot from their path;

⁶ Forsake all thoughtlessness, and live; and walk in the way of understanding.

²⁰ He that walketh with wise men shall be wise; but the companion of fools shall smart for it.

³³ Be not deceived; Evil companionships corrupt good morals.

⁷ Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not; for I will not justify the wicked.

¹⁴ If iniquity be in thy hand, put it far away, and let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents -

²³ If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up - if thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents,

⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house;

⁵ Deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹⁵ He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil;

¹¹ and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them,

²² abstain from every form of evil.

⁴ (36:5) He deviseth iniquity upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.

²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it cannot rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt.

¹ Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they execute it, because it is in the power of their hand.

⁶⁶ And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people, chief priests and scribes, were gathered together, and they led him away into their council, saying,

²⁸ They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium; and it was early, and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the passover.

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstedfast souls, having a heart exercised in covetousness, children of cursing,

⁵ Behold, as wild asses in the wilderness they go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food; the desert yieldeth them bread for their children. ⁶ They cut his provender in the field; and they despoil the vineyard of the wicked.

⁴ 'Shall not all the workers of iniquity know it, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD?'

¹⁷ 'Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.'

¹⁷ Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

²⁶ For among My people are found wicked men; they pry, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men. ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; therefore they are become great, and waxen rich; ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they are become sleek; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they might make it to prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls, they take treasure and precious things, they have made her widows many in the midst thereof. ²⁶ Her priests have done violence to My law, and have profaned My holy things; they have put no difference between the holy and the common, neither have they taught difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey: to shed blood, and to destroy souls, so as to get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed for them with whited plaster, seeing falsehood, and divining lies unto them, saying: Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have wronged the poor and needy, and have oppressed the stranger unlawfully.

⁴ Hear this, O ye that would swallow the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ Saying: 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth corn? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit; ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the corn?'

⁵ Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people to err; that cry: 'Peace', when their teeth have any thing to bite; and whoso putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him:

¹² For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

³ Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the desert, they leave not a bone for the morrow.

¹³ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out; and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure, ye have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

⁴ And as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, a morning without clouds; when through clear shining after rain, the tender grass springeth out of the earth.'

¹⁷ And thy life shall be clearer than the noonday; though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.

¹⁰ For He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

⁷ (84:8) They go from strength to strength, every one of them appeareth before God in Zion.

⁷ The way of the just is straight; Thou, Most Upright, makest plain the path of the just.

³ And let us know, eagerly strive to know the LORD, His going forth is sure as the morning; and He shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain that watereth the earth.'

⁶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall not be light, but heavy clouds and thick; ⁷ And there shall be one day which shall be known as the LORD'S, not day, and not night; but it shall come to pass, that at evening time there shall be light.

¹⁴ Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid.

¹⁶ Even so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

⁴⁵ that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

¹⁵ that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world,

¹⁹ And we have the word of prophecy made more sure, whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.

²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine upon it; for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp thereof is the Lamb.

⁵ And there shall be no night there, and they need no lamp, neither light of sun, for the Lord God shall give them light; and they shall reign for ever and ever.

⁹ He will keep the feet of His holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for not by strength shall man prevail.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day-time, and grope at noonday as in the night.

²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and He maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

⁵ Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹³ Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

⁹ Therefore is justice far from us, neither doth righteousness overtake us; we look for light, but behold darkness, for brightness, but we walk in gloom. ¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind, yea, as they that have no eyes do we grope; we stumble at noonday as in the twilight; we are in dark places like the dead.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before it grow dark, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight, and, while ye look for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹² Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness, they shall be thrust, and fall therein; for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guide the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹⁰ But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not; and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹ Maschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

¹² So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom.

²⁰ My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother; ²¹ Bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck.

¹ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

⁵ While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him.

⁸ (40:9) I delight to do Thy will, O my God; yea, Thy law is in my inmost parts.'

³ Let not kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the table of thy heart;

²¹ My son, let not them depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion;

¹ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. ² Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of thine eye.

⁸ It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

¹⁸ There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.

⁶ Behold, I will bring it healing and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my thoughts; ²⁴ And see if there be any way in me that is grievous, and lead me in the way everlasting.

⁷ The beginning of wisdom is: Get wisdom; yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

¹⁶ A gracious woman obtaineth honour; and strong men obtain riches.

³ He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; but for him that openeth wide his lips there shall be ruin.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward; he that keepeth his soul holdeth himself far from them.

¹⁹ Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.

²⁶ He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool; but whoso walketh wisely, he shall escape.

¹³ (5:12) There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt;

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceeding weak - who can know it?

³⁴ Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things; and the evil man out of his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings;

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² thefts, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness; ²³ all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.

³⁸ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

⁴⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

¹⁵ looking carefully lest there be any man that falleth short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled,

¹⁴ but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin; and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

¹² A base person, a man of iniquity, is he that walketh with a froward mouth;

⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness, there is nothing perverse or crooked in them.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

²⁰ He that hath a froward heart findeth no good; and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into evil.

³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, wherein ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

²⁵ Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor; for we are members one of another. ²⁶ Be ye angry, and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath: ²⁷ neither give place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need. ²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear. ³⁰ And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption. ³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:

⁸ but now do ye also put them all away; anger, wrath, malice, railing, shameful speaking out of your mouth:

⁵ wranglings of men corrupted in mind and bereft of the truth, supposing that godliness is a way of gain; from such withdraw thyself.

²¹ Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

²⁶ If any man among you thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man's religion is vain.

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

¹ I made a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid?

³⁷ Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity, and quicken me in Thy ways.

⁵ Wilt thou set thine eyes upon it? it is gone; for riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

³³ Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter confused things.

²² The lamp of the body is the eye; if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

²³ It is of the LORD that a man's goings are established; and He delighted in his way.

² (40:3) He brought me up also out of the tumultuous pit, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock, He established my goings.

⁵ Oh that my ways were directed to observe Thy statutes!

⁵⁹ I considered my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies.

⁶ Lest she should walk the even path of life, her ways wander, but she knoweth it not.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He maketh even all his paths.

²⁸ Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

⁵ Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways.

⁷ Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways.

¹⁵ Look therefore carefully how ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹⁷ Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹³ to the end he may establish your hearts unblameable in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and guard you from the evil one.

¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned out of the way, but rather be healed.

¹⁰ And may the God of all grace, who called us unto his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a little while, himself perfect you, established, strengthened, grounded.

³² (5:29) Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

³² (13:1) All this word which I command you, that shall ye observe to do; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

¹⁴ and shalt not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses My servant commanded thee; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest have good success whithersoever thou goest.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

¹⁶ Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before Mine eyes, cease to do evil;

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil, cleave to that which is good.
