¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguises his face.

¹⁴ And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him as wife. ¹⁵ When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; because she had covered her face.

¹⁴ You shall not commit adultery.

⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house. ⁵ And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child. ⁶ And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. ⁷ And when Uriah was come unto him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered. ⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to your house, and wash your feet. And Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and there followed him a present from the king. ⁹ But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. ¹⁰ And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Came you not from your journey? why then did you not go down unto your house? ¹¹ And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing. ¹² And David said to Uriah, Tarry here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow. ¹³ And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

¹² For you did it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

¹³ And you say, How does God know? can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circle of heaven.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it.

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers.

¹¹ And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

⁷ Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul. ³³ A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. ³⁴ For jealousy causes the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he be appeased, though you give many gifts.

⁹ In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: ¹⁰ And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart.

¹² Then said he unto me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his idols? for they say, The LORD sees us not; the LORD has forsaken the land.

⁹ Then said he unto me, The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: for they say, The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD sees not.
