¹ But Job answered and said, ² How have you helped him that is without power? how save you the arm that has no strength? ³ How have you counseled him that has no wisdom? and how have you plentifully declared the thing as it is? ⁴ To whom have you uttered words? and whose spirit came from you? ⁵ Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof. ⁶ Sheol is naked before him, and destruction has no covering. ⁷ He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing. ⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not torn under them. ⁹ He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud upon it. ¹⁰ He has drawn a circle on the waters at the boundary where the day and night come together. ¹¹ The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his rebuke. ¹² He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through the storm. ¹³ By his spirit he has adorned the heavens; his hand has pierced the fleeing serpent. ¹⁴ Lo, these are only parts of his ways: and how little a whisper is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

²⁷ And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he sleeps, and must be awaked.

³ Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have upheld him that was falling, and you have strengthened the feeble knees.

¹² Is my strength the strength of stones? or is my flesh of bronze?

²⁵ How forceful are right words! but what does your arguing prove?

² No doubt you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

⁴ I also could speak as you do: if your soul were in my soul’s place, I could heap up words against you, and shake my head at you. ⁵ But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips would relieve your grief.

⁹ Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength fails.

³ Strengthen you the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

⁵ The coastlands saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. ⁶ They helped everyone his neighbor; and everyone said to his brother, Be of good courage. ⁷ So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smoothes with the hammer him that struck the anvil, saying, It is ready for the soldering: and he fastened it with pegs, that it should not be moved.

¹³ Is not my help within me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knows not such things as these?

⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

⁸ Have you heard the council of God? and do you limit wisdom to yourself? ⁹ What know you, that we know not? what understand you, which is not in us? ¹⁰ With us are both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than your father.

¹⁰ But as for you all, do you return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

¹¹ Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, while you searched out what to say. ¹² Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words: ¹³ Lest you should say, We have found out wisdom: God vanquishes him, not man.

³ My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

³³ If not, hearken unto me: hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.

² Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.] Hear this, all you people; give ear, all you inhabitants of the world: ² Both low and high, rich and poor, together. ³ My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. ⁴ I will incline my ear to a proverb: I will disclose my riddles upon the harp.

¹⁵ My mouth shall show forth your righteousness and your salvation all the day; for I know not the limits thereof. ¹⁶ I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of your righteousness, even of yours only. ¹⁷ O God, you have taught me from my youth: and to this day have I declared your wondrous works. ¹⁸ Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God, forsake me not; until I have showed your strength unto this generation, and your power to every one that is to come.

⁶ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and from the opening of my lips shall come right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing crooked or perverse in them. ⁹ They are all plain to him that understands, and right to them that find knowledge.

²⁰ And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

²⁷ For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you. ²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto you?

³ I have heard the rebuke of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer.

¹⁸ For I am full of words, the spirit within me constrains me.

⁷ Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

³ Therefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Spirit.

¹ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: ³ And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, of which you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

¹³ And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. ¹⁴ For they are the spirits of demons, working miracles, who go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put a rope in his nose? or pierce his jaw through with a hook? ³ Will he make many supplications unto you? will he speak soft words unto you? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with you? will you take him for a servant forever? ⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you leash him for your maidens? ⁶ Shall your companions make a banquet of him? shall they apportion him among the merchants? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with harpoons? or his head with fish spears? ⁸ Lay your hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more. ⁹ Behold, the hope of subduing him is in vain: shall one not be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that would dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? ¹¹ Who has given to me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. ¹² I will not conceal his limbs, nor his power, nor his graceful proportion. ¹³ Who can remove the face of his garment? or who can approach him with a double bridle? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible all around. ¹⁵ His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be parted. ¹⁸ By his sneezings a light flashes, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils goes smoke, as out of a boiling pot or caldron. ²¹ His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ²² In his neck remains strength, and sorrow is turned into dancing before him. ²³ The folds of his flesh are joined together: they are firm on him; they cannot be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the lower millstone. ²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: because of his crashings they are beside themselves. ²⁶ The sword of him that reaches him cannot avail: neither the spear, the dart, nor the javelin. ²⁷ He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: clingstones with him are turned into stubble. ²⁹ Darts are counted as straw: he laughs at the threat of a javelin. ³⁰ His undersides are like sharp stones: he spreads sharp pointed marks upon the mire. ³¹ He makes the deep boil like a pot: he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He leaves a path shining after him; one would think the deep to have white hair. ³³ Upon earth there is not his like, which is made without fear. ³⁴ He beholds every high thing: he is a king over all the children of pride.

¹⁰ Will you show wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise you? Selah.

²⁵ So is this great and wide sea, which teems with things innumerable, both small and great. ²⁶ There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which you have made to play therein.

³ Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is my own, and I have made it for myself. ⁴ But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: you shall fall upon the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you for food to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.

⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? deeper than Sheol; what can you know?

²² Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame of it with our ears.

¹¹ Who has given to me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there.

¹¹ If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

¹¹ Sheol and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

⁹ Sheol from beneath is excited for you to meet you at your coming: it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

² Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down:

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹ In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. ² And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

⁸ Who alone spreads out the heavens, and treads upon the waves of the sea.

² For he has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

² Who covers yourself with light as with a garment: who stretches out the heavens like a curtain: ³ Who lays the beams of his chambers in the waters: who makes the clouds his chariot: who walks upon the wings of the wind: ⁴ Who makes his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: ⁵ Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed forever.

²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth was. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: ²⁶ While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the first of the dust of the world. ²⁷ When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he drew a circle upon the face of the depth:

²² It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in:

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who has created these things, that brings out their host by number: he calls them all by names by the greatness of his might, for he is strong in power; not one is missing.

⁵ Thus says God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which comes out of it; he that gives breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk in it:

⁶ And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. ⁷ And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

²⁹ Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the thunder of his tabernacle?

¹¹ Also with moisture he loads the thick cloud: he scatters his bright cloud: ¹² And it is turned around by his guidance: that they may do whatsoever he commands them upon the face of the whole earth. ¹³ He causes it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy. ¹⁴ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. ¹⁵ Do you know when God dispatched them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine? ¹⁶ Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is blameless in knowledge?

⁹ When I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band,

³⁷ Who can number the clouds by wisdom? or who can pour out the water skins of heaven,

¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. ¹¹ He made darkness his secret place; his canopy round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

⁷ He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain; he brings the wind out of his treasuries.

⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? who has gathered the wind in his fists? who has bound the waters in a garment? who has established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell?

⁶ And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

¹³ When he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his storehouses.

²¹ And the people stood far off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.

²⁰ And he said, You can not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. ²¹ And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand upon a rock: ²² And it shall come to pass, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand while I pass by: ²³ And I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back: but my face shall not be seen.

³ And no man shall come up with you, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.

¹² Then spoke Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circle of heaven.

² Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and justice are the habitation of his throne.

³ God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. ⁴ And his brightness was as the light; he had rays flashing out of his hand: and there was his power hidden. ⁵ Before him went the pestilence, and burning fever went forth at his feet.

¹⁶ Who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

²² While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb? ⁹ When I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, ¹⁰ And prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors, ¹¹ And said, Thus far shall you come, but no farther: and here shall your proud waves be stopped?

⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap: he lays up the depth in storehouses.

⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hastened away. ⁸ They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which you have founded for them. ⁹ You have set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.

²⁹ When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his command: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

⁹ For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. ¹⁰ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, says the LORD that has mercy on you.

²² Fear you not me? says the LORD: will you not tremble at my presence, who has placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though its waves toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he has set the world upon them.

¹⁵ Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

⁷ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was angry.

²¹ Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

²⁶ Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he has promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. ²⁷ And this word, Yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. ²⁴ And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, ²⁵ And took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians. ²⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. ²⁷ And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its place when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. ²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them. ²⁹ But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. ³⁰ Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore. ³¹ And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do bow before him.

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding.

¹¹ Put forth the rage of your wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

¹⁰ The LORD sits upon the flood; yea, the LORD sits as King forever.

¹³ You did divide the sea by your strength: you broke the heads of the serpents in the waters.

⁹ You rule the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, you still them. ¹⁰ You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; you have scattered your enemies with your strong arm.

³ The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. ⁴ The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

² Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. ³ The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. ⁴ The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. ⁵ What ailed you, O you sea, that you fled? you Jordan, that you were driven back? ⁶ You mountains, that you skipped like rams; and you little hills, like lambs? ⁷ Tremble, you earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;

¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall come upon everyone that is proud and lofty, and upon everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Are you not him who has cut Rahab, and wounded the sea monster?

¹⁵ But I am the LORD your God, that divided the sea, whose waves roared: The LORD of hosts is his name.

³⁵ Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the fixed order of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who divides the sea when its waves roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

² And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

⁶ By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. ⁷ He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap: he lays up the depth in storehouses.

¹³ You did divide the sea by your strength: you broke the heads of the serpents in the waters. ¹⁴ You broke the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

³⁰ You send forth your Spirit, they are created: and you renew the face of the earth.

¹ In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the fleeing serpent, even leviathan that twisted serpent; and he shall slay the monster that is in the sea.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹⁰ The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

¹² Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a whisper of it.

⁷ Can you by searching find out God? can you find out the limits of the Almighty? ⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? deeper than Sheol; what can you know? ⁹ The measure of it is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

⁹ Have you an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like him?

³ The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thunders: the LORD is upon many waters.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who has created these things, that brings out their host by number: he calls them all by names by the greatness of his might, for he is strong in power; not one is missing. ²⁷ Why say you, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is passed over by my God? ²⁸ Have you not known? have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. ²⁹ He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

⁹ For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. ¹⁰ But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. ¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ¹² For now we see in a mirror dimly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
