¹ Now it came to pass, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them; ² That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty. ³ Therefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ Come up unto me, and help me, that we may attack Gibeon: for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel. ⁵ Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it. ⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Abandon not your hand from your servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us. ⁷ So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor. ⁸ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into your hand; there shall not a man of them stand before you. ⁹ Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night. ¹⁰ And the LORD brought panic upon them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goes up to Bethhoron, and struck them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah. ¹¹ And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were on the decent to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. ¹² Then spoke Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand you still upon Gibeon; and you, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon. ¹³ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hastened not to go down about a whole day. ¹⁴ And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel. ¹⁵ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal. ¹⁶ But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah. ¹⁷ And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah. ¹⁸ And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them: ¹⁹ And stay you not there, but pursue after your enemies, and attack their rear guards; allow them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God has delivered them into your hand. ²⁰ And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were finished, that the rest which remained of them entered into fortified cities. ²¹ And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel. ²² Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave. ²³ And they did so, and brought forth those five kings unto him out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon. ²⁴ And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. ²⁵ And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the LORD do to all your enemies against whom you fight. ²⁶ And afterward Joshua struck them, and slew them, and hanged them on five trees: and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening. ²⁷ And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave in which they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day. ²⁸ And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king he utterly destroyed, the people, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho. ²⁹ Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah: ³⁰ And the LORD delivered it also, and its king, into the hand of Israel; and he struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto its king as he did unto the king of Jericho. ³¹ And Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, unto Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it: ³² And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, who took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah. ³³ Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him none remaining. ³⁴ And from Lachish Joshua passed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him; and they encamped against it, and fought against it: ³⁵ And they took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish. ³⁶ And Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, unto Hebron; and they fought against it: ³⁷ And they took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein. ³⁸ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it: ³⁹ And he took it, and its king, and all its cities; and they struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king. ⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the country of the hills, and of the South, and of the lowland, and of the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded. ⁴¹ And Joshua struck them from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon. ⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel. ⁴³ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁸ And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.

²¹ And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

² And you shall do to Ai and her king as you did unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall you take for a prey unto yourselves: lay you an ambush for the city behind it.

²² And the others came out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they struck them, so that they let none of them remain or escape. ²³ And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua. ²⁴ And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they had chased them, and when they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and struck it with the edge of the sword. ²⁵ And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai. ²⁶ For Joshua drew not his hand back, with which he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai. ²⁷ Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua. ²⁸ And Joshua burned Ai, and made it a heap forever, even a desolation unto this day. ²⁹ And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise on it a great heap of stones, that remains unto this day.

¹⁵ And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live: and the leaders of the congregation swore to them. ¹⁶ And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors, and that they dwelt among them. ¹⁷ And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kiriathjearim. ¹⁸ And the children of Israel struck them not, because the leaders of the congregation had sworn to them by the LORD God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the leaders. ¹⁹ But all the leaders said unto all the congregation, We have sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them. ²⁰ This we will do to them; we will even let them live, lest wrath come upon us, because of the oath which we swore to them. ²¹ And the leaders said unto them, Let them live; but let them be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation; as the leaders had promised them. ²² And Joshua called for them, and he spoke unto them, saying, Why have you deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; when you dwell among us? ²³ Now therefore you are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being slaves, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God. ²⁴ And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were very much afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now, behold, we are in your hand: as it seems good and right unto you to do unto us, do. ²⁶ And so did he unto them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, that they slew them not. ²⁷ And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the LORD, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.

¹⁹ There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all others they took in battle. ²⁰ For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

¹⁴ The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. ¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till your people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, whom you have purchased.

²⁵ There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as he has said unto you.

¹⁰ And all people of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of you.

⁹ And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. ¹⁰ For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side of Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. ¹¹ And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. ¹² Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have showed you kindness, that you will also show kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true sign: ¹³ And that you will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.

²⁴ And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD has delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

⁵ And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in your eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?

²⁶ And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

⁴ For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. ⁵ They saw it, and so they marveled; they were troubled, and hastened away. ⁶ Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes; ²⁷ When your terror comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish comes upon you.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁷ But a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the generals, and the mighty men, and every slave, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?

² And Sarah died in Kiriatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

¹⁴ And he said to him, Go, I pray you, see whether it is well with your brothers, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

²² And they ascended through the South, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

⁵ Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

¹⁰ The king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² The king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ The king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;

¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kiriatharba; this Arba was a great man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

³⁵ Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, ³⁶ And Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages: ³⁷ Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad, ³⁸ And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, ³⁹ Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,

⁵⁴ And Humtah, and Kiriatharba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages:

⁶³ As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

²⁸ And Zelah, Haleph, and Jebus, which is Jerusalem, Gibeah, and Kiriath; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

¹¹ And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

¹⁴ And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; turn away from me: that which you put on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

¹⁷ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rab-shakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool, which is on the highway of the fuller’s field.

⁹ And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

¹³ O you inhabitant of Lachish, harness the chariot to the swift steeds: it is the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

¹⁵ And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live: and the leaders of the congregation swore to them.

⁹ Be shattered, O you people, you shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all you from far countries: gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

⁵ The coastlands saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. ⁶ They helped everyone his neighbor; and everyone said to his brother, Be of good courage. ⁷ So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smoothes with the hammer him that struck the anvil, saying, It is ready for the soldering: and he fastened it with pegs, that it should not be moved.

²⁴ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service. ³ And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

²³ And after many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: ²⁴ But their plot was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. ²⁵ Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall in a basket. ²⁶ And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. ²⁷ But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

²⁸ Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and has polluted this holy place.

¹² Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

⁴ You adulterers and adulteresses, know you not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

⁴ In which they think it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of dissipation, speaking evil of you:

¹⁴ For they are the spirits of demons, working miracles, who go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

⁸ And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. ⁹ And they went up over the breadth of the earth, and encircled the camp of the saints, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. ¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

¹⁶ But in the fourth generation they shall come here again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.

²⁹ The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and along the Jordan.

¹ And it came to pass, when all the kings who were on this side of Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea toward Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard of it; ² That they gathered themselves together, to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.

⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Abandon not your hand from your servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us: for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.

¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

¹⁰ And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.

⁶ And they went to Joshua unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him, and to the men of Israel, We are come from a far country: now therefore make you a covenant with us.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that the LORD your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were very much afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now, behold, we are in your hand: as it seems good and right unto you to do unto us, do.

¹¹ And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the pasture lands round about it.

²⁴ Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not your riding for me, except I bid you.

² As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from this time forth even forever.

²² For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

³⁹ And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah;

¹ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be dismayed: take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land:

¹² Say not, A conspiracy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear you their threats, nor be afraid.

¹⁴ And he shall be as a sanctuary; but a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

² And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into your hand; and you shall do unto him as you did unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

¹ When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses, and chariots, and a people more than you, be not afraid of them: for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. ² And it shall be, when you are come near unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people, ³ And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, you approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be you terrified because of them; ⁴ For the LORD your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

⁵ There shall not any man be able to stand before you all the days of your life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with you: I will not fail you, nor forsake you. ⁶ Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shall you divide for an inheritance the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. ⁸ This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. ⁹ Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

⁶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

¹⁴ And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand: is not the LORD gone out before you? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. ¹⁵ And the LORD routed Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera got down from his chariot, and fled away on foot.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

¹⁰ Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. ¹¹ Behold, all they that were incensed against you shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with you shall perish. ¹² You shall seek them, and shall not find them, even them that contended with you: they that war against you shall be as nothing, and as a thing not existing. ¹³ For I the LORD your God will hold your right hand, saying unto you, Fear not; I will help you. ¹⁴ Fear not, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel; I will help you, says the LORD, and your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills like chaff.

³¹ What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

⁹ And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall you say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, Tomorrow, by that time the sun is hot, you shall have help. And the messengers came and showed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad. ¹⁰ Therefore the men of Jabesh said, Tomorrow we will come out unto you, and you shall do with us all that seems good unto you. ¹¹ And it was so the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they who remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

²⁹ See you a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure men.

¹¹ Deliver those that are drawn toward death, hold back those that are stumbling to the slaughter; ¹² If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that weighs the heart consider it? and he that keeps your soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

¹⁰ Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

³ You therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

² Preach the word; be diligent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

²³ But the LORD your God shall deliver them unto you, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they are destroyed.

¹¹ And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were on the decent to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more who died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.

²⁸ And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king he utterly destroyed, the people, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

⁸ And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who struck them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephothmaim, and unto the valley of Mizpah eastward; and they struck them, until they left none remaining.

¹⁶ The king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;

³⁵ Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,

⁴¹ And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages:

³ Then goes down westward to the border of the Japhletites, unto the border of lower Bethhoron, to Gezer: and it ends at the sea.

⁵ And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was Atarothaddar, unto upper Bethhoron;

²² And Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Bethhoron with its pasture lands; four cities.

¹⁵ And the LORD routed Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera got down from his chariot, and fled away on foot.

¹⁰ And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and brought confusion upon them; and they were routed before Israel. ¹¹ And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and slaughtered them, until they came below Bethcar. ¹² Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Thus far has the LORD helped us.

¹⁸ And another company turned the way to Bethhoron: and another company turned to the way of the border that looks upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

¹² So the LORD defeated the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

¹⁴ Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and vanquished them.

³ For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you had favor unto them.

⁵⁵ He cast out the nations also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

²¹ For the LORD shall rise up as on mount Perazim, he shall be angry as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his awesome work; and bring to pass his act, his alien act.

⁷ When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah: for these fortified cities remained of the cities of Judah.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²² And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt. ²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. ²⁶ Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.

²⁰ They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, with hailstones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. ¹⁴ Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and vanquished them.

¹⁷ The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: your arrows also went abroad. ¹⁸ The voice of your thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lighted up the world: the earth trembled and shook.

² Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one, which like a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, like a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with his hand.

³⁰ And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the descending of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

¹¹ Say unto them which daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and you, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall break it.

¹⁹ And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

²¹ And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceedingly great.

¹⁹ And lest you lift up your eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD your God has apportioned unto all nations under the whole heaven.

³ And has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

¹³ And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hastened not to go down about a whole day.

⁴² And Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah,

¹² And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.

⁷ Who commands the sun, and it rises not; and seals up the stars.

²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon moving in brightness; ²⁷ And my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand:

⁴ Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them has he set a tabernacle for the sun,

¹⁶ The day is yours, the night also is yours: you have prepared the light and the sun.

³ Praise him, sun and moon: praise him, all you stars of light.

⁸ Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which has gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it had gone down.

²⁰ Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for the LORD shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.

⁹ And it shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth on a clear day:

²⁰ But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of your arrows they went, and at the shining of your glittering spear.

¹³ Be silent, all flesh, before the LORD: for he has raised up out of his holy habitation.

¹⁴ Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red Sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,

² Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shall you be gathered unto your people.

¹⁴ And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.

² Praise you the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.

²⁸ And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray you, and strengthen me, I pray you, only this once, O God, that I may be avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

¹⁸ Also he told them to teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.

¹³ The copy of the writing for a command to be given in every province was published unto all people, so that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

¹⁶ The day is yours, the night also is yours: you have prepared the light and the sun. ¹⁷ You have set all the borders of the earth: you have made summer and winter.

⁷ To him that made great lights: for his mercy endures forever: ⁸ The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endures forever: ⁹ The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endures forever.

²³ Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his elders gloriously.

¹⁰ The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

³¹ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes.

¹⁵ The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.

⁴⁵ That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

²⁹ Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

⁷ And shall not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night unto him, though he bears long with them?

²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord comes:

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

¹² And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

¹² And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shined not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.

⁸ And the fourth angel poured out his bowl upon the sun; and power was given unto it to scorch men with fire. ⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, who has power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God is its light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

¹⁴ The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

³⁰ The LORD your God who goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

⁴² And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.

³ And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done unto all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God is he that has fought for you.

¹⁰ And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees. ¹¹ And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

⁶ Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the LORD of hosts. ⁷ Who are you, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain: and he shall bring forth its headstone with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

²¹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If you have faith, and doubt not, you shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if you shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; it shall be done. ²² And all things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.

²² And Jesus answering said unto them, Have faith in God. ²³ For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be removed, and be cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he said. ²⁴ Therefore I say unto you, whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you shall have them.

⁶ And the Lord said, If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you could say unto this sycamine tree, Be plucked up by the root, and be planted in the sea; and it would obey you.

⁴³ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

² And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strongholds.

⁶ When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits.

³ And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself: and David and his men remained in the recesses of the cave.

⁸ David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and called after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

⁷ Where shall I go from your Spirit? or where shall I flee from your presence? ⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, you are there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there. ⁹ If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; ¹⁰ Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

¹⁰ Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty. ¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall come upon everyone that is proud and lofty, and upon everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁹ And they shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake mightily the earth. ²⁰ In that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made, each for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats; ²¹ To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake mightily the earth. ²² Turn away from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for of what account is he?

²¹ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the exalted ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. ²² And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be punished.

² Though they dig into sheol, there shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, there will I bring them down:

¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of you.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the generals, and the mighty men, and every slave, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

²² Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

⁴⁶ And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into a stronghold of the house of the god Berith. ⁴⁷ And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together. ⁴⁸ And Abimelech went up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an ax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What you have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done. ⁴⁹ And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them against the stronghold, and set the stronghold on fire over them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

³⁰ That the wicked are reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹⁹ As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Strike the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and break them on the heads of all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that flees of them shall not flee away, and he that escapes of them shall not be delivered.

⁶⁶ So they went, and made the sepulcher sure, sealing the stone, and setting a guard.

²⁰ And it came to pass, when Joshua and the children of Israel had made an end of slaying them with a very great slaughter, till they were finished, that the rest which remained of them entered into fortified cities.

¹³ Moreover, if he has gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

⁶ And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take you your lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape us.

³⁷ I have pursued my enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed. ³⁸ I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet. ³⁹ For you have girded me with strength unto the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me. ⁴⁰ You have also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me. ⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

¹⁴ Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day. ¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.

¹⁴ Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us poisoned water to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

¹⁰ Cursed is he that does the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed is he that keeps back his sword from blood.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these people, which the LORD your God does give you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes:

²⁴ And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they had chased them, and when they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and struck it with the edge of the sword.

¹⁰ And the LORD brought panic upon them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goes up to Bethhoron, and struck them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.

¹⁷ And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

⁷ But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that you may know that the LORD does put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, says the LORD.

⁴ Against whom do you make sport? against whom do you open your mouth wide, and stick out the tongue? are you not children of transgression, offspring of falsehood,

³² Then said Samuel, Bring you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him cautiously. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

³ Therefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

²⁹ Happy are you, O Israel: who is like unto you, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your excellency! and your enemies shall submit unto you; and you shall tread upon their high places.

²⁰ And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

⁸ Ask of me, and I shall give you the nations for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. ⁹ You shall break them with a rod of iron; you shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. ¹⁰ Be wise now therefore, O you kings: be instructed, you judges of the earth. ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁴⁰ You have also given me the necks of my enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

¹³ You shall tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the serpent shall you trample under feet.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt upon princes, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.

⁵ The Lord at your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

⁸ To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; ⁹ To execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all his saints. Praise you the LORD.

⁵ For he brings down them that dwell on high; the lofty city, he lays it low; he lays it low, even to the ground; he brings it even to the dust. ⁶ The foot shall tread it down, even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.

¹¹ Therefore your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto you the wealth of the Gentiles, and their kings in procession. ¹² For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

³ And you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, says the LORD of hosts.

²⁰ And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

²⁶ And he that overcomes, and keeps my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: ²⁷ And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to pieces: even as I received of my Father.

²¹ And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done unto these two kings: so shall the LORD do unto all the kingdoms through which you pass. ²² You shall not fear them: for the LORD your God, he shall fight for you.

¹⁹ The great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, whereby the LORD your God brought you out: so shall the LORD your God do unto all the people of whom you are afraid.

⁶ Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you. ⁷ And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for you must go with this people unto the land which the LORD has sworn unto their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it. ⁸ And the LORD, he it is that does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: fear not, neither be dismayed.

⁹ Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

³⁷ David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with you.

⁹ But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

¹¹ I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember your wonders of old.

³⁷ Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

¹⁰ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁷ However the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD in the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

²² And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is to be put to death, and you hang him on a tree: ²³ His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God;) that your land be not defiled, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

²⁹ And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his body down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise on it a great heap of stones, that remains unto this day.

²¹ Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise you, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.

³³ And Samuel said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

⁶ Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

²³ And when inquiry was made into the matter, it was confirmed; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

⁹ And Harbona, one of the eunuchs, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon. ¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath abated.

²⁵ Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

¹³ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:

⁹ And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.

²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.

¹⁷ And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

² And when the LORD your God shall deliver them over to you; you shall strike them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them:

¹⁶ And you shall consume all the people whom the LORD your God shall deliver you; your eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto you.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these people, which the LORD your God does give you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes: ¹⁷ But you shall utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD your God has commanded you:

³⁰ And the LORD delivered it also, and its king, into the hand of Israel; and he struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto its king as he did unto the king of Jericho.

³² And the LORD delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel, who took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³⁵ And they took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

³⁷ And they took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king, and all its cities, and all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but destroyed it utterly, and all the souls that were therein.

³⁹ And he took it, and its king, and all its cities; and they struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he left none remaining: as he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.

⁸ Your hand shall find out all your enemies: your right hand shall find out those that hate you. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

²⁷ But those my enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring here, and slay them before me.

²⁵ For he must reign, till he has put all enemies under his feet.

²⁰ And they departed from Rimmonperez, and encamped at Libnah.

¹⁵ And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer. ¹⁶ For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burned it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife. ¹⁷ And Solomon built Gezer, and lower Beth-horon,

⁶⁷ And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in mount Ephraim with its pasture lands; they gave also Gezer with its pasture lands,

⁴ And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines; at which time Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, that was of the children of the giant: and they were subdued.

⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and my hope has he removed like a tree.

¹⁸ Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite unto this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

¹³ And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba, the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.

¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kiriatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹ Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. ² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: and the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel. ³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel. ⁴ David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. ⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

¹¹ And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kiriathsepher: ¹² And Caleb said, He that strikes Kiriathsepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife. ¹³ And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife. ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she got down from her donkey; and Caleb said unto her, What do you want? ¹⁵ And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for you have given me the south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

³ So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we struck him until none was left to him remaining.

³³ Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.

⁴⁰ So Joshua struck all the country of the hills, and of the South, and of the lowland, and of the slopes, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

¹¹ So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his close associates, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.

¹⁸ And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD has spoken it.

³¹ And I will set your bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and you shall drive them out before you. ³² You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. ³³ They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me: for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto you.

¹² Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you go, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you:

⁷ Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places near there, in the plain, in the hills, and in the lowland, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

² And when the LORD your God shall deliver them over to you; you shall strike them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them: ³ Neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give unto his son, nor his daughter shall you take unto your son. ⁴ For they will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy you suddenly. ⁵ But thus shall you deal with them; you shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their idol poles, and burn their graven images with fire. ⁶ For you are a holy people unto the LORD your God: the LORD your God has chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. ⁷ The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all people: ⁸ But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. ⁹ Know therefore that the LORD your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; ¹⁰ And repays them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face. ¹¹ You shall therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command you this day, to do them. ¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, if you hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD your God shall keep with you the covenant and the mercy which he swore unto your fathers: ¹³ And he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you: he will also bless the fruit of your womb, and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil, the increase of your cattle, and the flocks of your sheep, in the land which he swore unto your fathers to give you. ¹⁴ You shall be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. ¹⁵ And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, upon you; but will lay them upon all them that hate you. ¹⁶ And you shall consume all the people whom the LORD your God shall deliver you; your eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto you.

²⁴ And he shall deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.

¹⁶ This day the LORD your God has commanded you to do these statutes and judgments: you shall therefore keep and do them with all your heart, and with all your soul. ¹⁷ You have declared the LORD this day to be your God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice:

¹⁷ And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

²¹ And the furthermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur, ²² And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah, ²³ And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan, ²⁴ Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth, ²⁵ And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor, ²⁶ Amam, and Shema, and Moladah, ²⁷ And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpelet, ²⁸ And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Biziothiah, ²⁹ Baalah, and Iim, and Ezem, ³⁰ And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah, ³¹ And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah, ³² And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages: ³³ And in the lowland, Eshtaol, and Zorah, and Ashnah, ³⁴ And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam, ³⁵ Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, ³⁶ And Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages: ³⁷ Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad, ³⁸ And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, ³⁹ Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon, ⁴⁰ And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kitlish, ⁴¹ And Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages: ⁴² Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan, ⁴³ And Iphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib, ⁴⁴ And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages: ⁴⁵ Ekron, with its towns and its villages: ⁴⁶ From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages: ⁴⁷ Ashdod with its towns and its villages, Gaza with its towns and its villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and its coastline: ⁴⁸ And in the mountains, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh, ⁴⁹ And Dannah, and Kiriathsannah, which is Debir, ⁵⁰ And Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim, ⁵¹ And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages: ⁵² Arab, and Dumah, and Eshan, ⁵³ And Janim, and Bethtappuah, and Aphekah, ⁵⁴ And Humtah, and Kiriatharba, which is Hebron, and Zior; nine cities with their villages: ⁵⁵ Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah, ⁵⁶ And Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah, ⁵⁷ Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages: ⁵⁸ Halhul, Bethzur, and Gedor, ⁵⁹ And Maarath, and Bethanoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages: ⁶⁰ Kiriathbaal, which is Kiriathjearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages: ⁶¹ In the wilderness, Betharabah, Middin, and Secacah, ⁶² And Nibshan, and the city of Salt, and Engedi; six cities with their villages. ⁶³ As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

²¹ Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Bethhoglah, and Emikkeziz.

⁴⁰ And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families. ⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh, ⁴² And Shaalabbin, and Aijalon, and Ithlah, ⁴³ And Elon, and Thimnah, and Ekron, ⁴⁴ And Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, ⁴⁵ And Jehud, and Beneberak, and Gathrimmon, ⁴⁶ And Mejarkon, and Rakkon, with the region near Japho. ⁴⁷ And the border of the children of Dan went out beyond these: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father. ⁴⁸ This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, these cities with their villages.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him, according unto the saying of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite:

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into sheol, and all the nations that forget God.

⁷ And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, ⁸ In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

¹⁹ And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you come to Gerar, unto Gaza; as you go, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

²⁶ And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

⁸ Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

⁴ And your border shall turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim, and pass on to Zin: and the going forth thereof shall be from the south to Kadeshbarnea, and shall go on to Hazaraddar, and pass on to Azmon:

²³ Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadeshbarnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.

² That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.

¹² Then spoke Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand you still upon Gibeon; and you, Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.

¹⁶ So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the plain, and the mountains of Israel, its lowlands;

⁶ Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, You know the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and you in Kadeshbarnea. ⁷ Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

⁵¹ And Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages:

¹ Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there a harlot, and went in unto her.

²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of bronze; and he did grind in the prison house.

¹⁷ And these are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering unto the LORD; for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Askelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

⁵ In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give you.

⁵ Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

²⁶ And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goes down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

²⁵ And took off their chariot wheels, that they drove them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians.

⁴ For the LORD your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

³ For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your countenance, because you had favor unto them. ⁴ You are my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob. ⁵ Through you will we push down our enemies: through your name will we tread them under that rise up against us. ⁶ For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. ⁷ But you have saved us from our enemies, and have put them to shame that hated us. ⁸ In God we boast all the day long, and praise your name forever. It is God that justifies. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. ³⁷ Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

¹⁹ And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

¹⁵ And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.

¹⁴ Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.
