A Psalm or Song of Asaph.] Unto you, O God, do we give thanks, unto you do we give thanks: for that your name is near, your wondrous works declare. ² When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. ³ The earth and all inhabitants are dissolved: I hold up the pillars of it. Selah. ⁴ I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: ⁵ Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. ⁶ For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. ⁷ But God is the judge: he puts down one, and sets up another. ⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed; and he pours out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them down, and drink them. ⁹ But I will declare this forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. ¹⁰ All the strength of the wicked also will I cut off; but the strength of the righteous shall be exalted.

²¹ Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, ⁷ Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

⁷ For what nation is there so great, that has God so near unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?

³³ Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live? ³⁴ Or has God ever ventured to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

² I will worship toward your holy temple, and praise your name for your lovingkindness and for your truth: for you have magnified your word above all your name.

¹⁸ The LORD is near unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

⁶ Since as there is none like unto you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might.

⁴ And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

¹⁵ And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.

³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth, by clear shining after rain.

⁷⁰ He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: ⁷¹ From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

² I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will you come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

¹³ You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yea, the set time, is come.

¹⁷ I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time for every purpose and for every work.

⁶ Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready.

⁷ And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put in his own power.

³¹ Because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; and of this he has given assurance unto all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he has set the world upon them.

⁷ And the women sang to one another as they played, and said, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

²⁸ I pray you, forgive the trespass of your handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord an enduring house; because my lord fights the battles of the LORD, and evil has not been found in you all your days.

¹ Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. ² And the Philistines followed close upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons. ³ And the battle went hard against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was severely wounded of the archers. ⁴ Then said Saul unto his armorbearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armorbearer would not; for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. ⁵ And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armorbearer, and all his men, that same day together. ⁷ And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side of Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were he that led out and brought in Israel: and the LORD said to you, You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be a captain over Israel.

A michtam of David to teach; when he fought with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned and smote of Edom in the Valley of Salt twelve thousand.] O God, you have cast us off, you have scattered us, you have been displeased; O turn yourself to us again. ² You have made the earth to tremble; you have broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shakes. ³ You have shown your people hard things: you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

⁶⁰ So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men; ⁶¹ And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand. ⁶² He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was angry with his inheritance. ⁶³ The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage. ⁶⁴ Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation. ⁶⁵ Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine. ⁶⁶ And he struck his enemies and beat them back: he put them to a perpetual reproach. ⁶⁷ Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim: ⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he has established forever.

¹ Behold, the LORD makes the earth empty, and makes it waste, and turns it upside down, and scatters abroad its inhabitants. ² And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor. ³ The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly plundered: for the LORD has spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. ⁵ The earth also is defiled under its inhabitants; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. ⁶ Therefore has the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell in it are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. ⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of timbrels ceases, the noise of them that rejoice ends, the joy of the harp ceases. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. ¹² In the city is left desolation, and the gate is stricken with destruction.

¹⁹ The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is torn asunder, the earth is shaken exceedingly.

⁸ Thus says the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you: and I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant to the people, to establish the earth, to cause them to inherit the desolate heritages;

³ Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. ⁵ They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. ⁶ I have said, You are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. ⁷ But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. ⁸ Arise, O God, judge the earth: for you shall inherit all nations.

¹⁷ For you are the glory of their strength: and in your favor our horn shall be exalted.

⁸ Understand, you senseless among the people: and you fools, when will you be wise?

¹⁴ He also exalts the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise you the LORD.

²² How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge?

⁵ O you simple, understand wisdom: and, you fools, be of an understanding heart.

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

²⁰ And of the ten horns that were on its head, and of the other which came up, and before which three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke very great things, whose look was greater than its fellows. ²¹ I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

²¹ Then said I, What are these coming to do? And he spoke, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these have come to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations, who lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.

⁹ And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff-necked people:

²⁷ For I know your rebellion, and your stubbornness: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, you have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

⁸ Now be you not stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you.

⁴ Because I knew that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew, and your brow bronze;

⁴ For they are impudent children and stubborn. I do send you unto them; and you shall say unto them, Thus says the Lord GOD.

⁵¹ You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you.

³ But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he has set the world upon them.

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

¹ And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill your horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

¹⁷ And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, You sought for David in times past to be king over you: ¹⁸ Now then do it: for the LORD has spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

²¹ And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, who chose me before your father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I make merry before the LORD.

⁶ And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.

¹¹ So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God who judges in the earth.

⁷ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap; ⁸ That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

⁶ The LORD lifts up the meek: he casts the wicked down to the ground.

⁴ And command them to say unto their masters, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall you say unto your masters; ⁵ I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed right unto me. ⁶ And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his own land comes: and then many nations and great kings shall enslave him. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, says the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings, and sets up kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: ²² He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings: for the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.

¹⁸ O king, the most high God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor:

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

¹⁶ You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

¹⁵ But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,

²⁰ His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

³ You have shown your people hard things: you have made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

¹⁰ Therefore his people return here: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

³⁰ They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

²² Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mix strong drink:

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, who have drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; you have drunk the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

²² Thus says your Lord the LORD, and your God that pleads the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of my fury; you shall no more drink it again:

¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.

¹⁷ Then took I the cup from the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:

²⁷ Therefore you shall say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink, and be drunken, and vomit, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then shall you say unto them, Thus says the LORD of hosts; You shall certainly drink.

⁹ And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, ¹⁰ The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out undiluted into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

¹⁹ And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

¹⁴ That I may show forth all your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁰ I have not hid your righteousness within my heart; I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation: I have not concealed your lovingkindness and your truth from the great congregation.

³³ I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

¹ [A Psalm of praise of David.] I will extol you, my God, O king; and I will bless your name forever and ever. ² Every day will I bless you; and I will praise your name forever and ever.

¹ And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoices in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth boasts over my enemies; because I rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁰ But my horn shall you exalt like the horn of a wild ox: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

⁸ I will early destroy all the wicked of the land; that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

²⁵ The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, says the LORD.

²⁰ And the LORD showed me four craftsmen. ²¹ Then said I, What are these coming to do? And he spoke, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these have come to terrify them, to cast out the horns of the nations, who lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.
