¹ [A maschil of Asaph.] O God, why have you cast us off forever? why does your anger smoke against the sheep of your pasture? ² Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old; the tribe of your inheritance, which you have redeemed; this mount Zion, where you have dwelt. ³ Lift up your feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy has done wickedly in the sanctuary. ⁴ Your enemies roar in the midst of your congregations; they set up their banners for signs. ⁵ A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees. ⁶ But now they break down its carved work at once with axes and hammers. ⁷ They have cast fire into your sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of your name to the ground. ⁸ They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the meeting places of God in the land. ⁹ We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knows how long. ¹⁰ O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever? ¹¹ Why withdraw you your hand, even your right hand? pluck it out of your bosom. ¹² For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. ¹³ You did divide the sea by your strength: you broke the heads of the serpents in the waters. ¹⁴ You broke the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people inhabiting the wilderness. ¹⁵ You did break open the fountain and the flood: you dried up mighty rivers. ¹⁶ The day is yours, the night also is yours: you have prepared the light and the sun. ¹⁷ You have set all the borders of the earth: you have made summer and winter. ¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed your name. ¹⁹ O deliver not the soul of your turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of your poor forever. ²⁰ Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. ²¹ O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise your name. ²² Arise, O God, plead your own cause: remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily. ²³ Forget not the voice of your enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against you increases continually.

²⁰ The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

¹ Why stand you afar off, O LORD? why hide you yourself in times of trouble?

⁸ There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

⁹ I will say unto God my rock, Why have you forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? and why are you disturbed within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

⁹ But you have cast off, and put us to shame; and go not forth with our armies.

A michtam of David to teach; when he fought with Aramnaharaim and with Aramzobah, when Joab returned and smote of Edom in the Valley of Salt twelve thousand.] O God, you have cast us off, you have scattered us, you have been displeased; O turn yourself to us again.

¹⁰ Will not you, O God, who had cast us off? and you, O God, who did not go out with our armies?

⁷ Will the Lord cast off forever? and will he be favorable no more?

¹ [A maschil of Asaph.] Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

⁵ How long, LORD? will you be angry forever? shall your jealousy burn like fire?

¹³ So we your people and sheep of your pasture will give you thanks forever: we will show forth your praise to all generations.

⁷ For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today if you will hear his voice,

³ Know you that the LORD he is God: it is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

¹ Woe be unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the LORD.

³⁷ Thus says the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the descendants of Israel for all that they have done, says the LORD.

²⁴ Consider you not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD has chosen, he has even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, as if they should be no more a nation before them. ²⁵ Thus says the LORD; If my covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; ²⁶ Then will I cast away the descendants of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

⁸ As I live, says the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became food to every beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;

³¹ And you my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, says the Lord GOD.

³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

²⁶ But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. ²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: ²⁸ And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. ³⁰ I and my Father are one.

¹ I say then, Has God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the descendants of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. ² God has not cast away his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah? how he makes intercession to God against Israel, saying,

¹³ You in your mercy have led forth the people whom you have redeemed: you have guided them in your strength unto your holy habitation.

¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till your people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, whom you have purchased.

²⁰ But the LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as you are this day.

²⁹ Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your mighty power and by your outstretched arm.

⁹ For the LORD’S portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.

¹¹ Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

¹² Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

¹ [A song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.] Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. ² Beautiful for elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

¹⁶ Why leap you, you high hills? this is the hill which God desires to dwell in; yea, the LORD will dwell in it forever.

¹⁵ You have with your arm redeemed your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

⁶⁸ But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved. ⁶⁹ And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he has established forever.

⁴⁰ Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, so much that he abhorred his own inheritance.

¹³ For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation. ¹⁴ This is my rest forever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

⁴ For the LORD has chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

¹¹ Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

¹² And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and you shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

¹⁷ O LORD, why have you made us to err from your ways, and hardened our heart from your fear? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

¹⁶ The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.

¹⁹ The portion of Jacob is not like them; for he is the maker of all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the LORD of hosts is his name.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own, zealous of good works.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation;

²⁴ And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

³⁹ And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet. ⁴⁰ For you have girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me have you subdued under me. ⁴¹ You have also given me the necks of my enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. ⁴² They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. ⁴³ Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

³ And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great distress and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

³ And said unto the king, Let the king live forever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchers, lies waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?

¹³ And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even to the jackal’s well, and to the refuse gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down; and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.

²³ Awake, why sleep you, O Lord? arise, cast us not off forever.

²⁶ Arise for our help, and redeem us for your mercies' sake.

¹ [A Psalm of Asaph.] O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; your holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.

¹³ You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favor her, yea, the set time, is come. ¹⁴ For your servants take pleasure in her stones, and favor the dust thereof.

⁶ I will send him against a godless nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

¹⁰ For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the refuse heap.

⁴ And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

³ I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in my anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. ⁴ For the day of vengeance is in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come. ⁵ And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me. ⁶ And I will tread down the people in my anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

¹⁰ Your holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. ¹¹ Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.

¹³ And burned the house of the LORD, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, burned he with fire:

¹⁰ The adversary has spread out his hand over all her precious things: for she has seen that the nations entered into her sanctuary, whom you did command that they should not enter into your congregation.

¹¹ Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. ¹² And a host was given him to oppose the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it did this, and prospered. ¹³ Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint who spoke, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? ¹⁴ And he said unto me, For two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of your servant, and his supplications, and cause your face to shine upon your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.

²⁷ And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

³¹ And forces shall appear on his part, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate.

³ For, behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place, and will come down, and tread upon the high places of the earth.

¹² Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, and the mountain of the house like the high places of the forest.

¹⁷ And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but you have made it a den of thieves.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

² But the court which is outside the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

² Every man of the children of Israel shall encamp by his own standard, with the banner of their father's house: over against the tabernacle of meeting shall they encamp.

¹⁷ Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that was stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand.

¹ O you children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a signal of fire in Beth-haccherem: for evil appears out of the north, and great destruction. ² I have likened the daughter of Zion to a lovely and delicate woman. ³ The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed everyone in his own place. ⁴ Prepare you war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goes away, for the shadows of the evening are lengthening. ⁵ Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

⁷ The Lord has cast off his altar, he has abhorred his sanctuary, he has given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.

²⁷ He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

¹⁵ When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoever reads, let him understand:)

¹ There were present at that time some that told him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

²⁰ And when you shall see Jerusalem surrounded with armies, then know that its desolation is near.

⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

⁶ Now therefore command you that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with your servants: and unto you will I give wages for your servants according to all that you shall appoint: for you know that there is not among us any that has skill to cut timber like unto the Sidonians.

¹⁴ The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stone, and in wood, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson; also to engrave any manner of engraving, and to execute every design which shall be given to him, with your skillful men, and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.

²² Her sound shall go like a serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, like hewers of wood. ²³ They shall cut down her forest, says the LORD, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.

¹⁸ And the cedar of the house inside was carved with knobs and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.

²⁹ And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, in the inner and outer rooms.

³² The two doors also were of olive wood; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubim and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubim, and upon the palm trees.

³⁵ And he carved thereon cherubim and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.

²⁴ An altar of earth you shall make for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings, and your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto you, and I will bless you.

⁵ But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his dwelling place shall you seek, and there you shall come:

²⁰ And the LORD has performed his word that he spoke, and I am risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

⁹ And he burned the house of the LORD, and the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great man’s house burned he with fire.

³⁹ You have made void the covenant of your servant: you have profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

¹¹ Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, is burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.

² The Lord has swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and has not pitied: he has thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah; he has brought them down to the ground: he has polluted the kingdom and its princes.

²¹ Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind shall fall by the sword.

⁷ But when the king heard thereof, he was angry: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

³ And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from over you today? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold your peace.

⁵ And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from over you today? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold your peace.

²³ And he said, Why will you go to him today? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.

⁹ And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

⁸ And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are different from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to tolerate them. ⁹ If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.

²³ And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

¹³ And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

⁹ And it shall be for a sign unto you upon your hand, and for a memorial before your eyes, that the LORD's law may be in your mouth: for with a strong hand has the LORD brought you out of Egypt. ¹⁰ You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

¹⁷ And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in your sight, then show me a sign that you talk with me.

¹ And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no open vision.

⁹ Her gates are sunk into the ground; he has destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the nations: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

²⁶ Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumor shall be upon rumor; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

¹² Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctifies them.

¹¹ Behold, the days come, says the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

⁶ Therefore night shall be unto you, that you shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that you shall not divine; and the sun shall go down upon the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.

⁴ God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] How long will you forget me, O LORD? forever? how long will you hide your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

¹⁶ For the voice of him that reproaches and blasphemes; because of the enemy and avenger.

⁴ We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us. ⁵ How long, LORD? will you be angry forever? shall your jealousy burn like fire?

¹² And render unto our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, with which they have reproached you, O Lord.

⁴⁶ How long, LORD? will you hide yourself forever? shall your anger burn like fire?

⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, the reproach of your servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; ⁵¹ With which your enemies have reproached, O LORD; with which they have reproached the footsteps of your anointed.

⁶ And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, How long shall it be till the end of these wonders?

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do you not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

⁶⁵ Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine. ⁶⁶ And he struck his enemies and beat them back: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

¹² Will you restrain yourself for these things, O LORD? will you hold your peace, and afflict us very severely?

³ He has cut off in his fierce anger all the might of Israel: he has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy, and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire, which devours round about.

² The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him a habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him. ³ The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. ⁴ Pharaoh's chariots and his host has he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. ⁵ The depths have covered them: they sank to the bottom as a stone. ⁶ Your right hand, O LORD, has become glorious in power: your right hand, O LORD, has dashed in pieces the enemy. ⁷ And in the greatness of your excellency you have overthrown them that rose up against you: you sent forth your wrath, which consumed them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of your nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. ⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. ¹⁰ You did blow with your wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. ¹¹ Who is like unto you, O LORD, among the gods? who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? ¹² You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. ¹³ You in your mercy have led forth the people whom you have redeemed: you have guided them in your strength unto your holy habitation. ¹⁴ The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.

⁵ Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a special treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: ⁶ And you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak unto the children of Israel.

²¹ He has not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither has he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. ²² God brought them out of Egypt; he has as it were the strength of a wild ox.

²³ So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. ²⁴ And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.

⁵ For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel: you saw it, and did rejoice: therefore then will you sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

⁴ You are my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

²² For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us.

⁸ For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Savior.

¹² You did march through the land in indignation, you did trample the nations in anger. ¹³ You went forth for the salvation of your people, even for salvation with your anointed; you wounded the head out of the house of the wicked, by laying bare from the foundation to the neck. Selah. ¹⁴ You did thrust through with his own arrows the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was like devouring the poor secretly.

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

²⁸ And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

¹¹ And you did divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors you threw into the deep, as a stone into the mighty waters.

⁶ He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.

¹³ He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand up as a heap.

⁸ Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known. ⁹ He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

¹³ To him who divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endures forever: ¹⁴ And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endures forever: ¹⁵ But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for his mercy endures forever. ¹⁶ To him who led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endures forever. ¹⁷ To him who struck great kings: for his mercy endures forever: ¹⁸ And slew famous kings: for his mercy endures forever:

¹⁵ And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall strike it into seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. ¹⁶ And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, who shall be left, from Assyria; like it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Are you not him who has cut Rahab, and wounded the sea monster? ¹⁰ Are you not him who has dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that has made the depths of the sea a road for the ransomed to pass over?

³ Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, who has said, My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.

² Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a monster in the seas: and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

³⁵ And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they requested of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing: ³⁶ And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they gave unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.

³⁰ Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.

⁹ Only rebel not against the LORD, neither fear you the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.

⁸ Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to arouse leviathan.

¹ Can you draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ² Can you put a rope in his nose? or pierce his jaw through with a hook? ³ Will he make many supplications unto you? will he speak soft words unto you? ⁴ Will he make a covenant with you? will you take him for a servant forever? ⁵ Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you leash him for your maidens? ⁶ Shall your companions make a banquet of him? shall they apportion him among the merchants? ⁷ Can you fill his skin with harpoons? or his head with fish spears? ⁸ Lay your hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more. ⁹ Behold, the hope of subduing him is in vain: shall one not be cast down even at the sight of him? ¹⁰ None is so fierce that would dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me? ¹¹ Who has given to me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine. ¹² I will not conceal his limbs, nor his power, nor his graceful proportion. ¹³ Who can remove the face of his garment? or who can approach him with a double bridle? ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible all around. ¹⁵ His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ¹⁷ They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be parted. ¹⁸ By his sneezings a light flashes, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. ²⁰ Out of his nostrils goes smoke, as out of a boiling pot or caldron. ²¹ His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ²² In his neck remains strength, and sorrow is turned into dancing before him. ²³ The folds of his flesh are joined together: they are firm on him; they cannot be moved. ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the lower millstone. ²⁵ When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: because of his crashings they are beside themselves. ²⁶ The sword of him that reaches him cannot avail: neither the spear, the dart, nor the javelin. ²⁷ He regards iron as straw, and bronze as rotten wood. ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: clingstones with him are turned into stubble. ²⁹ Darts are counted as straw: he laughs at the threat of a javelin. ³⁰ His undersides are like sharp stones: he spreads sharp pointed marks upon the mire. ³¹ He makes the deep boil like a pot: he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ³² He leaves a path shining after him; one would think the deep to have white hair. ³³ Upon earth there is not his like, which is made without fear. ³⁴ He beholds every high thing: he is a king over all the children of pride.

⁹ They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.

²⁵ So is this great and wide sea, which teems with things innumerable, both small and great. ²⁶ There go the ships: there is that leviathan, which you have made to play therein.

¹ In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the fleeing serpent, even leviathan that twisted serpent; and he shall slay the monster that is in the sea.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, who is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Israel; and your rod, with which you smote the river, take in your hand, and go. ⁶ Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹¹ And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he struck the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their animals also.

¹⁰ For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side of Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

¹³ And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bore the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in a heap. ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when the people set out from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people; ¹⁵ And as they that bore the ark were come unto the Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water, (for Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest,) ¹⁶ That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far at the city Adam, that is beside Zarethan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right opposite Jericho. ¹⁷ And the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed completely over Jordan.

⁸ And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they both went over on dry ground.

¹⁴ And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had struck the waters, they parted to the one side and to the other: and Elisha went over.

¹⁵ He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

¹⁶ And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, who shall be left, from Assyria; like it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

²⁷ That says to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up your rivers:

²¹ And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

⁹ Your bow was made quite ready, according to the oaths over your arrows. Selah. You did divide the earth with rivers.

¹² And the sixth angel poured out his bowl upon the great river Euphrates; and its water was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

³ And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. ⁵ And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

¹⁴ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: ¹⁵ And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. ¹⁶ And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. ¹⁷ And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, ¹⁸ And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

³ When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained;

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork. ² Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge. ³ There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. ⁴ Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them has he set a tabernacle for the sun, ⁵ Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man to run a race. ⁶ Its going forth is from the end of the heaven, and its circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

¹⁹ He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knows its going down.

⁷ To him that made great lights: for his mercy endures forever: ⁸ The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endures forever: ⁹ The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endures forever.

⁴⁵ That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

²² While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

⁸ When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. ² For he has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

¹⁷ Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²⁶ And has made of one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

⁶ Do you thus repay the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he your father that has bought you? has he not made you, and established you?

²⁷ Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, and lest they should say, Our hand has triumphed, and the LORD has not done all this.

⁸ Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

²² Arise, O God, plead your own cause: remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily.

² Lift up yourself, you judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. ³ LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? ⁴ How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? ⁵ They break in pieces your people, O LORD, and afflict your heritage. ⁶ They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. ⁷ Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. ⁸ Understand, you senseless among the people: and you fools, when will you be wise?

²³ Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? and against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. ²⁴ By your servants have you reproached the Lord, and have said, By the multitude of my chariots have I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees: and I will enter into its farthest height, and the forest of its Carmel.

⁶ I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem, who shall never hold their peace day nor night: you that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence. ⁷ And give him no rest, till he establishes, and till he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

¹⁴ But I acted for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

¹⁹ And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

¹⁸ For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

¹⁰ Your congregation has dwelt therein: you, O God, have provided of your goodness for the poor.

¹³ Though you have slept among the sheepfolds, yet shall you be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her feathers with yellow gold.

² He shall judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

¹⁴ O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice; for sweet is your voice, and your countenance is lovely.

¹ Behold, you are fair, my love; behold, you are fair; you have doves' eyes behind your veil: your hair is like a flock of goats, going down from mount Gilead.

⁹ My dove, my perfect one, is the only one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the favorite one of her that bore her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her.

⁸ Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?

¹² I will also leave in the midst of you an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judges?

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto you, and to your descendants after you. ⁸ And I will give unto you, and to your descendants after you, the land in which you are a sojourner, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

⁵ Simeon and Levi are brothers; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. ⁶ O my soul, come not into their secret; unto their assembly, my spirit, be not united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they dug down a wall. ⁷ Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

⁶ And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. ⁷ And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the hearing of the people: and they said, All that the LORD has said will we do, and be obedient. ⁸ And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you concerning all these words.

⁴⁰ If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; ⁴¹ And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity: ⁴² Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths, while it lies desolate without them: and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes. ⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. ⁴⁵ But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

²⁷ Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:

³¹ You shall not do so unto the LORD your God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hates, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burned in the fire to their gods.

⁵ Although my house be not so with God; yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he makes it not to grow.

⁸ Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before my face.

²⁸ My mercy will I keep for him forevermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

³⁴ My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. ³⁶ His descendants shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me.

⁸ He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.

⁴⁵ And he remembered for them his covenant, and relented according to the multitude of his mercies.

²⁰ Thus says the LORD; if you can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; ²¹ Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers. ²² As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the descendants of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me. ²³ Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,

⁷² To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ The oath which he swore to our father Abraham, ⁷⁴ That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

²⁹ Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, ³⁰ Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ³¹ Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, ¹⁸ Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

¹¹ And they sang together responsively in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endures forever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that sneers at him.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto you, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that plunders him?

¹⁹ For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; ²⁰ To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death; ²¹ To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

⁶ The LORD executes righteousness and justice for all that are oppressed.

²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

¹⁷ But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: you shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

¹¹ The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD is good; for his mercy endures forever: and of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captives of the land, as at the first, says the LORD.

¹⁹ Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the nations be judged in your sight. ²⁰ Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah.

¹ [To the Chief Musician upon mahalath. A maschil. A Song of David.] The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that does good.

¹⁸ Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed your name.

⁴ I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: ⁵ Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for your name's sake. ¹⁰ Why should the nations say, Where is their God? let him be known among the nations in our sight by the revenging of the blood of your servants which is shed.

⁵ Now therefore, what have I here, says the LORD, that my people are taken away for nothing? they that rule over them make them to wail, says the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it. ¹² Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand: forget not the humble.

¹ [To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.] How long will you forget me, O LORD? forever? how long will you hide your face from me?

⁷ Who stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

⁴ Your enemies roar in the midst of your congregations; they set up their banners for signs.

²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

² Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.

¹⁴ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
