¹ Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. ² And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. ³ And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. ⁴ And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. ⁵ And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left without her two sons and her husband. ⁶ Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them food. ⁷ Therefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. ⁸ And Naomi said unto her two daughters-in-law, Go, return each of you to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me. ⁹ The LORD grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voices, and wept. ¹⁰ And they said unto her, Surely we will return with you unto your people. ¹¹ And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will you go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? ¹² Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have a husband also tonight, and should also bear sons; ¹³ Would you tarry for them till they were grown? would you refrain from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieves me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me. ¹⁴ And they lifted up their voices, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law; but Ruth clung to her. ¹⁵ And she said, Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return you after your sister-in-law. ¹⁶ And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you: for where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge: your people shall be my people, and your God my God: ¹⁷ Where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts you and me. ¹⁸ When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, then she ceased speaking unto her. ¹⁹ So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was stirred because of them, and they said, Is this Naomi? ²⁰ And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. ²¹ I went out full, and the LORD has brought me home again empty: why then call you me Naomi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me? ²² So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.

¹⁰ And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was severe in the land.

¹ And there was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.

¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heavens as iron, and your earth as bronze:

²³ And your heaven that is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is under you shall be iron. ²⁴ The LORD shall make the rain of your land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon you, until you be destroyed.

³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.

¹⁶ Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, who delivered them out of the hand of those that plundered them. ¹⁷ And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they played the harlot with other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so. ¹⁸ And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for the LORD had compassion because of their groanings because of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

⁸ And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

⁸ And the man departed out of the city from Bethlehemjudah to sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.

¹ And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehemjudah. ² And his concubine played the harlot against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.

¹ Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

¹ And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. ² And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, ³ Get you from here, and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. ⁴ And it shall be, that you shall drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. ⁵ So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. ⁶ And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank of the brook. ⁷ And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. ⁸ And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, ⁹ Arise, get you to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain you. ¹⁰ So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray you, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. ¹¹ And as she was going to bring it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray you, a morsel of bread in your hand. ¹² And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have not bread, but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jar: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

² And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And there was a severe famine in Samaria.

¹ Then spoke Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go you and your household, and sojourn wherever you can sojourn: for the LORD has called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. ² And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.

¹⁶ Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he broke every staff of bread.

³⁴ A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

¹ The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.

¹³ Son of man, when the land sins against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out my hand upon it, and will break its supply of bread, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

²¹ For thus says the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four severe judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the wild beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

¹⁰ The field is wasted, the land mourns; for the grain is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languishes. ¹¹ Be ashamed, O you farmers; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.

¹⁶ Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? ¹⁷ The seed shrivels under the clods, the storehouses are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain has withered. ¹⁸ How the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. ¹⁹ O LORD, to you will I cry: for the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the field. ²⁰ The beasts of the field cry also unto you: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

⁶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places: yet have you not returned unto me, says the LORD.

¹⁹ And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

¹ Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:

²¹ For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

¹ Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor has come to take unto him my two sons to be slaves.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.

¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are trained by it.

³ Neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give unto his son, nor his daughter shall you take unto your son.

³ An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD forever:

¹ But king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites; ² Of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel, You shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clung unto these in love.

⁵ And Salmon begat Boaz of Rahab; and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

³⁹ See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god besides me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; ³¹ If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; ³² Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

²¹ Then shall you say in your heart, Who has begotten for me these, since I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and moving to and fro? and who has brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.

²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no child, left his wife unto his brother: ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all the woman died also.

¹² Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and many people of the city were with her.

¹ And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

²⁰ And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who fed me all my life long unto this day,

²⁵ And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.

¹⁶ Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:

³¹ And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

⁴ Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. ⁵ And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. ⁶ And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At evening, then you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt:

²¹ And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

¹⁴ He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; ¹⁵ And wine that makes glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengthens man's heart.

⁵ He has given food unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

¹⁵ I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

¹⁵ The eyes of all wait upon you; and you give them their food in due season.

⁷ Who executes justice for the oppressed: who gives food to the hungry. The LORD looses the prisoners:

¹⁴ He makes peace in your borders, and fills you with the finest of the wheat.

⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food needful for me:

¹⁰ For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and returns not there, but waters the earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

¹⁰ For thus says the LORD, That after seventy years are accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.

⁷ And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed there: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.

¹¹ Give us this day our daily bread.

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he has visited and redeemed his people,

⁴⁴ And shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.

⁸ And having food and clothing let us be with these things content.

¹² Having your conduct honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

²⁷ And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

¹⁰ And they said unto her, Surely we will return with you unto your people.

¹⁴ And they lifted up their voices, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law; but Ruth clung to her.

³ And it came to pass at the seven years’ end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.

¹⁵ And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. ¹⁶ And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods; ¹⁷ For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the people through whom we passed: ¹⁸ And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, even the Amorites who dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God. ¹⁹ And Joshua said unto the people, You cannot serve the LORD: for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. ²⁰ If you forsake the LORD, and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after that he has done you good. ²¹ And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD. ²² And Joshua said unto the people, You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses. ²³ Now therefore put away, said he, the foreign gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel. ²⁴ And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey. ²⁵ So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem. ²⁶ And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. ²⁷ And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest you deny your God. ²⁸ So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

⁵ And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.

²⁰ And Naomi said unto her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he of the LORD, who has not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our closest kinsmen.

²⁵ And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them, ²⁶ If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brothers, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whosoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. ²⁸ For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he has enough to finish it? ²⁹ Lest perhaps, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, ³⁰ Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. ³¹ Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation, and desires conditions of peace. ³³ So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.

²² Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

² Honor your father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; ³ That it may be well with you, and you may live long on the earth.

¹⁸ But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. ¹⁹ But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

¹⁸ Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fitting in the Lord.

²⁴ Knowing that of the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for you serve the Lord Christ.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chains: ¹⁷ But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, you know very well.

²⁷ And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed:

¹¹ And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

¹ Then Naomi her mother-in-law said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for you, that it may be well with you?

³⁷ And they all wept much, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,

³ But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the noble, in whom is all my delight.

⁶³ I am a companion of all them that fear you, and of them that keep your precepts.

²³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold, out of every language of the nations, even shall take hold of the robe of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at your father's house, till Shelah my son is grown: for he said, Lest perhaps he die also, as his brothers did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

⁵ If brethren dwell together, and one of them dies, and has no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry outside unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her.

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is a hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

⁹ Let not a widow be put on the list under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

¹⁵ For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

¹⁵ Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

¹¹ So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

²¹ Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.

⁴ For day and night your hand was heavy upon me: my strength is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

² For your arrows stick fast in me, and your hand presses me down.

⁹ I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because you did it. ¹⁰ Remove your scourge away from me: I am consumed by the blow of your hand.

²⁸ And have not allowed me to kiss my sons and my daughters? you have now done foolishly in so doing.

⁵⁵ And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

⁴ But you that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.

²⁰ You shall fear the LORD your God; him shall you serve, and to him shall you cleave, and swear by his name.

²⁰ And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray you, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to you?

¹⁷ A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

²⁴ A man that has friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

¹ For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cling to the house of Jacob.

³⁷ He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

¹⁰ For Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

³⁹ But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

² And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Beth-el.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he has ceased to be wise, and to do good.

⁵ As for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: but peace shall be upon Israel.

⁶ And those that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for him.

²⁰ But he that received the seed in stony places, the same is he that hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it; ²¹ Yet has he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he is offended.

²⁸ And they drew near unto the village, where they were going: and he made as though he would have gone further.

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

¹⁸ And the LORD drove out from before us all the people, even the Amorites who dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.

¹¹ And Boaz answered and said unto her, It has fully been shown me, all that you have done unto your mother-in-law since the death of your husband: and how you have left your father and your mother, and the land of your birth, and are come unto a people which you knew not before. ¹² The LORD recompense your work, and a full reward be given you of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to trust.

²¹ And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will your servant be.

² And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Beth-el. ³ And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from over you today? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold your peace. ⁴ And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho. ⁵ And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from over you today? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold your peace. ⁶ And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray you, here; for the LORD has sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they both went on.

¹⁰ Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear; forget also your own people, and your father's house;

⁴⁷ The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is God of gods, and Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret.

²⁹ Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, who speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap: because there is no other God that can deliver in this way.

³⁷ Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

⁴ Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no god but me: for there is no savior besides me.

¹⁹ And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.

²⁸ And they drew near unto the village, where they were going: and he made as though he would have gone further. ²⁹ But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

³⁷ Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean you to weep and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

⁹ For they themselves show of us what manner of welcome we had unto you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

⁴ These are they who were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the first fruits unto God and to the Lamb.

¹⁷ And he said, What is the thing that the LORD has said unto you? I pray you hide it not from me: God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he said unto you.

²² God do so and more also unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that belong to him by the morning light even one male.

⁹ So do God to Abner, and more also, except, as the LORD has sworn to David, even so I do to him;

³⁵ And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David swore, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, till the sun be down.

¹³ And say you to Amasa, Are you not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you be not captain of the army before me continually in the place of Joab.

²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

¹⁰ And Ben-hadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for a handful for each of the people that follow me.

³¹ Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

²³ Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cling unto the Lord.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

⁴² And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

¹⁴ And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.

¹⁰ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

⁷ Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to dwell.

¹⁵ All that pass by clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?

¹⁰ And when he came into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

¹ And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be you perfect.

¹⁴ And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

³ And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name the LORD was I not known to them.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects: therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty:

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison thereof drinks up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

⁷ Can you by searching find out God? can you find out the limits of the Almighty?

⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net.

¹⁴ For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer your terrors I am distracted.

¹³ I considered till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

¹ I am the man that has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. ² He has led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. ³ Surely against me has he turned; he turns his hand against me all the day. ⁴ My flesh and my skin has he made old: he has broken my bones. ⁵ He has besieged me, and surrounded me with gall and travail. ⁶ He has set me in dark places, like they that are long dead. ⁷ He has hedged me in, that I cannot get out: he has made my chain heavy. ⁸ Also when I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayer. ⁹ He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone, he has made my paths crooked. ¹⁰ He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places. ¹¹ He has turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he has made me desolate. ¹² He has bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. ¹³ He has caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my heart. ¹⁴ I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day. ¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he has covered me with ashes. ¹⁷ And you have removed my soul far off from peace: I forgot prosperity. ¹⁸ And I said, My strength and my hope has perished from the LORD: ¹⁹ Remembering my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. ²⁰ My soul has them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them who are trained by it.

⁸ I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.

²² And I saw no temple in it: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: he brings low, and lifts up. ⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the rubbish, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he has set the world upon them.

²¹ And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there: the LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation upon me; changes and war are ever with me.

²⁶ For you write bitter things against me, and make me possess the iniquities of my youth.

⁸ And you have filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me bears witness to my face.

⁵ And I will come near to you for judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the sojourner from his right, and fear not me, says the LORD of hosts.

³¹ And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was in bud. ³² But the wheat and the spelt were not smitten: for they were not yet grown up.

²³ So she kept close by the maidens of Boaz to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and dwelt with her mother-in-law.

⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
