¹ Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and whipped him.

¹⁹ And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to whip, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall you whip in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas unto them: and after Jesus was whipped, he delivered him to be crucified. ²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. ²⁸ And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. ²⁹ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! ³⁰ And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. ³¹ And after they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own clothing on him, and led him away to crucify him.

³³ Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: ³⁴ And they shall mock him, and shall whip him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

¹⁵ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had whipped him, to be crucified. ¹⁶ And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. ¹⁷ And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, ¹⁸ And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! ¹⁹ And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

³³ And they shall whip him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

¹⁶ I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

²³ And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

²² And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates tore off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. ²³ And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely:

²⁴ The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know why they cried so against him. ²⁵ And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to whip a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes less one.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

²⁴ Who his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed.
