¹ In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. ² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim the king of Judah into his hand and _⌊some of_⌋* of the utensils of the temple of God,* and he brought them to the land of Shinar to the temple of his gods, and he brought the utensils to _⌊the treasury_⌋* of his gods. ³ And the king _⌊ordered_⌋* Ashpenaz, the commander of his court officials, to bring _⌊some of the Israelites_⌋* from _⌊the royal family_⌋* and from the lords,* ⁴ youths who _⌊have no physical defect_⌋,* and who are _⌊handsome_⌋,* and who are prudent* in all wisdom and _⌊endowed with knowledge_⌋,* and who understand insight, and who have the _⌊ability_⌋* in them to serve in the palace of the king. And the king ordered him to teach them the literature and the language of the Chaldeans. ⁵ And the king assigned to them _⌊his daily portion_⌋* from the fine food of the king, and from _⌊the wine that he drank_⌋,* and instructed that _⌊they were to be educated for three years_⌋.* And at the end of their training, _⌊they were to be stationed_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* the king. ⁶ Now there was among them _⌊from the Judeans_⌋,* Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. ⁷ And the commander of the court officials gave them names, and he called Daniel, Belteshazzar; and Hananiah, Shadrach; and Mishael, Meshach; and Azariah, Abednego. ⁸ Now _⌊Daniel resolved_⌋* that he would not defile himself with the fine food of the king, and with _⌊the wine that he drank_⌋,* and so he requested from the commander of the court officials permission so that he would not defile himself. ⁹ And God* gave Daniel favor and compassion _⌊before_⌋* the commander of the court officials, ¹⁰ and the commander of the court officials said to Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord, the king, who has determined your food and your drink, for _⌊why should_⌋* he see your face having a worse appearance than the young men who _⌊are your age_⌋?* Then you will endanger my head with the king." ¹¹ Then* Daniel asked the guard* whom the commander of the court officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, ¹² "Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us _⌊some of the vegetables_⌋,* and let us eat and let us drink water. ¹³ Then* let our appearances and the appearance of the young men who are eating the fine food of the king be compared _⌊before you_⌋,* and then deal with your servants _⌊according to what you see_⌋."* ¹⁴ So he agreed to this proposal with them, and he tested them for ten days. ¹⁵ And at the end of ten days their appearances appeared better and they were healthier of body than all the young men who were eating the fine food of the king. ¹⁶ _⌊So_⌋* the guard _⌊continued to withhold_⌋* their fine food and the wine of their drink, and he gave them* vegetables. ¹⁷ _⌊And as for these four young men_⌋,* God* gave to them knowledge and insight into all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had insight into all visions* and dreams. ¹⁸ And at the end of the time the king had set to bring them, the commander of the court officials brought them in _⌊before_⌋* Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁹ And the king spoke with them, _⌊and among all of them no one was found like_⌋* Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; then they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king. ²⁰ And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired from them, he found them ten times better than all of the magicians* and conjurers* that _⌊were in his entire kingdom_⌋.* ²¹ And Daniel was there until the first year of Cyrus the king.

¹ In his days, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up because Jehoiakim had become his servant for three years; then he turned and rebelled against him. ² So Yahweh sent against him raiding bands of Chaldeans, raiding bands of Aram, raiding bands of Moab, and raiding bands of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.* He had sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of Yahweh that he had spoken by the hand of his servants the prophets.

¹³ Then he took from there all of the treasures of the temple of Yahweh and the treasures of the palace of the king. He cut up all of the vessels of gold which Solomon the king of Israel had made in the temple of Yahweh, as Yahweh had foretold.

⁵ Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did evil in the eyes of Yahweh his God. ⁶ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon went up against him, and he bound him with bronze fetters to bring him to Babylon. ⁷ And Nebuchadnezzar brought to Babylon the objects of the house of Yahweh and put them into the temple in Babylon.

¹⁰ Now,* the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

² And as people migrated* from the east they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

⁴⁹ Yahweh will raise up against you a nation from far off, from the end of the earth, attacking as the eagle swoops down, _⌊a nation whose language you will not understand_⌋,* ⁵⁰ _⌊a grim-faced nation_⌋* _⌊who does not show respect_⌋* to the old and the young and does not show pity. ⁵¹ And it* shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground _⌊until you are destroyed_⌋,* and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, _⌊calves of your herds_⌋,* and _⌊lambs of_⌋* your flock _⌊until it has destroyed you_⌋.* ⁵² And it shall besiege you in all your towns _⌊until your high and fortified walls fall_⌋,* which you are trusting in* _⌊throughout your land_⌋;* and it shall besiege you in all of your towns in all of your land that Yahweh your God has given to you.

³⁰ How could one chase a thousand and two could cause a myriad to flee, if their Rock had not sold them, and Yahweh had not given them up?

¹⁴ So _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against Israel, and he gave them into the hand of plunderers; and they plundered them, and he sold them into the hand of their enemies from all sides. They were unable to withstand their enemies any longer.

⁸ And _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim, the king of Aram Naharaim; and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.

² So Yahweh sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. The commander of his army was Sisera, and he was living in Harosheth Haggoyim.

²³ The rulers of the Philistines had gathered to sacrifice a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice. And they said, "Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand." ²⁴ And the people saw him, and they praised their god, for they said, "Our god has given into our hand those who hate us, devastate our land, and have _⌊killed many of us_⌋."*

² Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the temple of Dagon and placed it beside Dagon.

⁹ So they cut off his head and stripped off his armor. Then they sent messengers around in the land of the Philistines to proclaim victory in the temples* of their idols and to the people. ¹⁰ And they put his armor in the temple* of the Ashtoreth,* and they fastened his corpse to the wall of Beth Shan.

⁷ And Nebuchadnezzar brought to Babylon the objects of the house of Yahweh and put them into the temple in Babylon.

⁷ And Cyrus the king brought out the objects of the house of Yahweh that Nebuchadnezzar had brought from Jerusalem and placed in the house of his gods.

⁴¹ Then he gave them into the hand of the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. ⁴² And their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand.

¹¹ And this shall happen on that day:
The Lord will again extend his hand a second time to acquire the remnant of his people that is left, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coastlands of the sea,

²⁴ Who gave Jacob to a plunderer* and Israel to those who plunder?
Was it not Yahweh, against whom* we have sinned?
And they were not willing to walk in his ways, and they would not _⌊obey_⌋* his law.

¹⁹ For thus says Yahweh of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the stands, and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city, ²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, did not take when he deported Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, _⌊along with_⌋* all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will wrench out from his mouth _⌊what he has swallowed_⌋.* And the nations will not stream towards him any longer _⌊what's worse_⌋,* the wall of Babylon has fallen.

³⁷ You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the might and the glory, ³⁸ and also _⌊human beings wherever they dwell_⌋,* the animals of the field and the birds* of heaven*—he has given into your hand and made you ruler over all of them—you are the head of gold.

² _⌊When he tasted the wine_⌋,* Belshazzar commanded that they bring the vessels of gold and silver that Nebuchadnezzar his _⌊predecessor_⌋* had taken from the temple that was in Jerusalem, so that the king and his lords,* his wives and his concubines may drink from them. ³ Then they brought in the vessels of gold that they took from the temple, the house of God that was in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords,* his wives and his concubines drank from them.

¹⁸ _⌊O king_⌋,* the Most High God gave the kingdom and the greatness and the glory and the majesty to Nebuchadnezzar your _⌊predecessor_⌋.*

¹⁶ Therefore he sacrifices to his fishnet and makes offerings to his dragnet, for by them _⌊he makes a good living_⌋* and his food is rich.

¹¹ And he said to me, "To build for it a house* in the land of Shinar,* and when it is put in place, it will be placed there on its site."

¹⁷ 'Look, days are coming when all that is in your palace will be carried off; even all that your ancestors* have stored up until this day, to Babylon; nothing shall be left,' says Yahweh. ¹⁸ 'Your sons who went out from you, whom you brought forth, will be taken, and they shall be eunuchs in the temple of the king of Babylon.'"

¹⁵ He deported Jehoiachin to Babylon; the mother of the king, the wives of the king, his court officials, and the citizenry of the land he caused to go into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:

⁷ 'And some of your sons who go out from you, whom you fathered, shall be taken, and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.'"

¹ _⌊And then_⌋* in the seventh month Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, from the offspring of the kingship, and one of the chief officers of the king, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam at Mizpah, _⌊along with_⌋* ten men. And they ate bread together there at Mizpah.

¹⁸ Indeed,* any man in whom is a physical defect shall not come near: a blind man or lame or disfigured or deformed, ¹⁹ or a man in whom is a broken foot or a broken hand, ²⁰ or a hunchback or a dwarf, or a spot in his eye or a skin disorder or a skin eruption or a crushed testicle. ²¹ Any man from Aaron the priest's offspring in whom is a physical defect shall not come near to present offerings made by fire to* Yahweh; a physical defect is in him; he shall not come near to present his God's food.

¹⁹ And when a man _⌊causes_⌋* a physical defect in his fellow citizen _⌊according to_⌋* what he has done, so it shall be done to him: ²⁰ fracture in place of fracture, eye in place of eye, tooth in place of tooth—_⌊according to_⌋* the physical defect he _⌊causes_⌋* to the person, likewise it shall be _⌊caused_⌋* to him.

¹⁸ And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, "What type were the men whom you killed at Tabor?" And they said, "_⌊They were like you_⌋;* each one of them had the appearance of the sons of the king."

²⁵ As far as Absalom, there was not a more handsome man in all of Israel to admire so much; from the sole of his foot up to his crown, there was no physical defect on him.

²⁹ A man who is skillful in his work, you shall see: before kings, he will serve; he will not serve before the commoners.

¹⁹ Wisdom gives more strength to the wise than ten rulers who are in the city.

¹⁷ _⌊And as for these four young men_⌋,* God* gave to them knowledge and insight into all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had insight into all visions* and dreams. ¹⁸ And at the end of the time the king had set to bring them, the commander of the court officials brought them in _⌊before_⌋* Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁹ And the king spoke with them, _⌊and among all of them no one was found like_⌋* Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; then they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king. ²⁰ And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired from them, he found them ten times better than all of the magicians* and conjurers* that _⌊were in his entire kingdom_⌋.*

² So the king said to call the magicians* and the conjurers* and the sorcerers and the _⌊astrologers_⌋* to tell to the king his dreams. And they came in and they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king.

⁴ And the _⌊astrologers_⌋* said to the king in Aramaic,* "O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants and we will reveal the explanation." ⁵ The king answered and said to the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* "The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its explanation,* then you will be broken into pieces and your houses will be laid in ruins.

¹⁰ The _⌊astrologers_⌋* answered the king and said, "There is not a man on earth that is able to reveal the word of the king; _⌊in fact_⌋,* no great and powerful king has ever asked a thing like this of any magician* or conjurer* or _⌊astrologer_⌋.*

²⁰ Daniel _⌊said_⌋:*
"Let his name, the name of God,* be blessed _⌊throughout the ages_⌋,* for the wisdom and the power _⌊are his_⌋.* ²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom* to wise men and knowledge to men who know understanding.

⁸ _⌊Therefore_⌋* _⌊at this time_⌋* some _⌊astrologers_⌋* came forward and _⌊they denounced the Jews_⌋.*

⁷ Then the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋* and the diviners came in and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its explanation.*

⁷ The king cried _⌊aloud_⌋* to bring in the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋* and the diviners; the king _⌊spoke_⌋* and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Any man that can read this writing and can tell me its explanation will be clothed in purple and will have a necklace of gold hung around his neck and he will rule as third in authority in the kingdom."

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom _⌊who has the spirit of the holy gods in him_⌋.* And in the days of your _⌊predecessor_⌋,* enlightenment and insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; and, O king, Nebuchadnezzar your _⌊predecessor_⌋* appointed him as chief of the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* and the diviners. Your _⌊predecessor_⌋* the king did this

²⁰ At this time Moses was born, and he was beautiful to God. _⌊He_⌋* was brought up for three months in his* father's house,

²² And Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was powerful in his words and deeds.

²⁷ in order that he might present to himself the church glorious, not having a spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she may be holy and blameless.

⁴⁶ Now Joseph _⌊was thirty years old_⌋* when he stood before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and traveled through the whole land of Egypt.

²² Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, "Please let David stand before me, because he has found favor _⌊in my sight_⌋."*

²² The food of Solomon for one day was thirty dry measures of choice meal and sixty dry measures of flour; ²³ ten stall-fed oxen and twenty pasture-fed oxen and a hundred sheep, besides deer and buck gazelles and roebucks and well-fed fowls.

⁸ Happy are your men and happy are these your servants who stand before you continually hearing your wisdom.

³⁰ His allowance was continually given to him from the king, _⌊a portion every day_⌋* all the days of his life.

⁷ Blessed are your men, and blessed are these your servants who stand before you regularly and hear your wisdom!

¹⁹ Therefore thus says Yahweh,
"If you turn back, then I will take you back. You will stand _⌊before me_⌋.* And if you utter what is precious and not what is worthless, you will be as my mouth. They will turn back to you, and you will not turn back to them.

⁸ Now _⌊Daniel resolved_⌋* that he would not defile himself with the fine food of the king, and with _⌊the wine that he drank_⌋,* and so he requested from the commander of the court officials permission so that he would not defile himself.

¹⁹ And the king spoke with them, _⌊and among all of them no one was found like_⌋* Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; then they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king.

¹¹ Give us today our daily bread,

¹⁹ And the angel answered and* said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news.

³ Give us each day our daily bread.

³⁶ But be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

¹⁴ And if even the three of these men were in the midst of it—Noah, Daniel, and Job—they, through their righteousness, would save only _⌊themselves_⌋!"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁰ and if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the midst of her, _⌊as surely as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "surely not a son, surely not a daughter will they save by their righteousness; they would save _⌊themselves_⌋."*

³ Look, are you wiser than Daniel, so that _⌊no secret_⌋* is hidden from you?

¹⁷ Then Daniel went to his home, and he made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, his companions,

¹⁵ "So when you see the abomination of desolation* spoken about by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place" (let the one who reads understand),

¹⁴ "But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be" (let the one who reads understand), "then those in Judea must flee to the mountains!

⁴⁵ And Pharaoh called the name of Joseph Zaphenath-paneah and gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, as a wife. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

³⁴ Then Pharaoh Neco made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of Josiah his father, and he changed his name to Jehoiakim. Then he took Jehoahaz and brought him to Egypt, and he died there.

¹⁷ Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah his uncle king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.

³ And the king _⌊ordered_⌋* Ashpenaz, the commander of his court officials, to bring _⌊some of the Israelites_⌋* from _⌊the royal family_⌋* and from the lords,*

¹⁰ and the commander of the court officials said to Daniel, "I am afraid of my lord, the king, who has determined your food and your drink, for _⌊why should_⌋* he see your face having a worse appearance than the young men who _⌊are your age_⌋?* Then you will endanger my head with the king." ¹¹ Then* Daniel asked the guard* whom the commander of the court officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,

²⁶ _⌊The king then asked_⌋* and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its explanation?"*

⁴⁹ And Daniel made a request from the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon, while Daniel remained in the court of the king.

¹² However there are Judean men whom you have appointed* over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—these men, O king, _⌊pay you no heed_⌋* and were not serving your god, and the statue of gold* that you set up they are not worshiping." ¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar said in rage and anger to bring in Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego; then they brought in these men before the king. ¹⁴ Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you are not serving my god, and you are not worshiping the statue of gold* that I have set up? ¹⁵ Now if you are ready so that _⌊when_⌋* you hear the sound of the horn, the flute, the lyre, the trigon, the harp and the drum and all kinds of music, you fall down and you worship the statue that I have made, that will be good. But if you do not worship it, _⌊immediately_⌋* you will be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire, and _⌊who is the god_⌋* who* will rescue you from my hands?" ¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego answered and said to the king, Nebuchadnezzar, "We have no need on this matter _⌊to present a defense to you_⌋.* ¹⁷ _⌊If it is so_⌋,* our God, whom we serve, is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire. And from your hand, O king, let him rescue us. ¹⁸ And if not, let it be known to you, O king, that _⌊we will not serve your gods_⌋,* and the statue of gold* that you have set up we will not worship." ¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with anger and the image of his face was changed _⌊toward_⌋* Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, so he _⌊ordered and said_⌋* to heat up the one furnace seven times what was usual to heat it up. ²⁰ And he commanded _⌊the strongest men of the guards_⌋* who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and to throw them into the furnace of blazing fire. ²¹ Then these men were bound with their garments, their trousers and their turbans and their other clothing, and they were thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. ²² _⌊Therefore_⌋* _⌊because_⌋* the word of the king was severe and the furnace was exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed these men who lifted up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. ²³ But these men, the three of them, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, fell down into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire, and they were bound. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and he rose up in haste and he asked, saying to his advisers, "Did we not throw three men, bound, into the midst of the fire? They answered, saying to the king, "Certainly, O king!" ²⁵ _⌊He answered_⌋,* saying, "Look, I see four men unbound walking in the midst of the fire and there is no damage to them, and the* appearance of the fourth man resembles the son of a god." ²⁶ Then Nebuchadnezzar approached the door of the furnace of blazing fire, and he called out, saying, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, _⌊servants_⌋* of the Most High God, come out* and come here!" ²⁷ And the satraps, the prefects, the governors and the advisors of the king were assembling, and they saw these men, that the fire had no power over their bodies, and the hair of their heads was* not singed, and their garments were not harmed, and the smell of fire did not come from them. ²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar _⌊responded_⌋,* saying, "Blessed be their God, the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who sent his angel* and rescued his servants who trusted in him, and the command of the king they disobeyed, and they gave their bodies so that they did not serve and did not worship any god except their God. ²⁹ And from me _⌊is set forth_⌋* a decree that any people, nation, or language that may utter criticism against their God—the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego—will be broken into pieces and their* house will be made like ruins. _⌊For_⌋* there is not another God who is able to rescue like this God." ³⁰ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

⁸ Then _⌊at last_⌋* Daniel came before me _⌊whose name was_⌋* Belteshazzar, _⌊according to_⌋* the name of my god, and _⌊in whom was the spirit of the holy gods_⌋,* _⌊and I related the dream to him_⌋.*

¹² _⌊because_⌋* there was found in him an excellent spirit and understanding and insight for interpreting dreams and explaining riddles and solving riddles; that is, in Daniel _⌊whom the king named_⌋* Belteshazzar. Now, let Daniel be called and he will tell the explanation."*

⁴⁵ because I am Yahweh, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be for you as God. Thus* you shall be holy, because I am holy. ⁴⁶ " 'This is the regulation of the animals* and the birds and all living creatures that move along in the water and _⌊concerning_⌋* all the creatures that swarm on the land, ⁴⁷ to distinguish between the unclean and the clean and between the animal that is to be eaten and the animal that must not be eaten.'"

³⁸ Who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their libations? Let them rise up, and let them help you; _⌊Let them be to you a refuge_⌋.*

¹⁷ Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. So may Yahweh do to me, _⌊and even more, unless_⌋* death _⌊separates you and me_⌋!"* ¹⁸ When Naomi saw that she was determined to go with her, _⌊she said no more_⌋.*

⁵ Here I am, intending to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, as Yahweh promised to my father David, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set in your place on your throne, shall build the house for my name.'

²⁸ They also attached themselves to Baal of Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.*

¹⁰⁶ I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to heed _⌊your righteous ordinances_⌋.*

¹¹⁵ Turn aside from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commands of my God.

⁴ Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked deeds with men who do iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies.

¹³ And Yahweh said, "Thus shall the _⌊Israelites_⌋* eat their unclean food among the nations _⌊where I will scatter them_⌋."* ¹⁴ And I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! Look! I have not been defiling myself, and a dead body and mangled carcass I have not eaten from my childhood until now, and _⌊unclean meat_⌋* has not come into my mouth!"

⁵ And the king assigned to them _⌊his daily portion_⌋* from the fine food of the king, and from _⌊the wine that he drank_⌋,* and instructed that _⌊they were to be educated for three years_⌋.* And at the end of their training, _⌊they were to be stationed_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* the king.

³ They will not remain in the land of Yahweh. But Ephraim will return to Egypt, and in Assyria they will eat unclean food. ⁴ They will not pour drink offerings of wine to Yahweh, and their sacrifices will not please him. They are like mourners' bread for them; all those who eat it will be defiled. For their bread will be _⌊for their hunger_⌋;* it will not come to the house of Yahweh.

¹⁴ But Peter said, "Certainly not, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common and unclean!" ¹⁵ And the voice came again to him for the second time: "The things which God has made clean, you must not consider unclean!" ¹⁶ And this happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into heaven.

²³ who, when he* arrived and saw the grace of God, rejoiced and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with _⌊devoted hearts_⌋,*

¹⁵ For if because of food, your brother is grieved, you are no longer living according to love. Do not destroy by your food that person for whom Christ died. ¹⁶ Therefore do not let your good be slandered. ¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

³⁷ But he who stands firm in his heart, not having necessity, but has authority concerning his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep his own virgin, he will do well.

⁷ But this knowledge is not in everyone. But some, being accustomed until now to the idol, eat this food as food sacrificed to idols, and their conscience, because it* is weak, is defiled. ⁸ But food does not bring us close to God. For neither if we eat do we have more, nor if we do not eat do we lack.* ⁹ But watch out lest somehow this right of yours becomes a cause for stumbling to the weak. ¹⁰ For if someone should see you who has knowledge reclining for a meal in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, because it* is weak, be strengthened so that he eats the food sacrificed to idols?

¹⁸ Consider Israel according to the flesh: are not the ones who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar? ¹⁹ Therefore, what am I saying? That food sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? ²⁰ No, but that the things which they sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to become sharers with demons. ²¹ You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You are not able to share the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

²⁸ But if someone says to you, "This is offered to idols," do not eat it, for the sake of that one who informed you and the conscience. ²⁹ Now I am not speaking about your own conscience, but the conscience of the other person. For why is my freedom judged by another's conscience? ³⁰ If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? ³¹ Therefore, whether you eat or you drink or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

⁷ Each one should give as he has decided in his heart, not _⌊reluctantly_⌋* or from compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

²⁸ And he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,* for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed."

²¹ And Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison.

⁵⁰ You shall forgive your people who sinned against you, even for all their transgressions which they committed against you. You shall give them compassion before their captors so that they may have compassion on them,

²⁷ Blessed be Yahweh the God of our ancestors,* who put this in the heart of the king to glorify the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem ²⁸ and who extended to me loyal love before the king and his counselors, and before all of the mighty officials of the king. I took courage, for the hand of Yahweh my God was upon me, and I gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me.

¹¹ O Lord, please let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight to revere in your name. Please, let your servant be successful this day and give him compassion before this man."
I was cupbearer for the king.

⁴ Then the king said to me, "What is your request?" So I prayed to the God of the heavens.

³ But know that Yahweh has set apart* for himself the faithful one.* Yahweh hears when I call to him.

⁴⁶ And he _⌊let them find compassion_⌋* before all their captors.

⁷ When the ways of a man are pleasing to Yahweh, even his enemies he will cause to make peace with him.

¹⁰ and rescued him from all his afflictions and granted him favor and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And he appointed him ruler over Egypt and all* his household.

²⁵ The fear of a person will lay a snare, but he who trusts in Yahweh will be secure.

¹⁶ "Whenever you fast, do not be sullen like the hypocrites, for they make their faces unrecognizable in order that they may be seen fasting by people. Truly I say to you, they have received their reward in full! ¹⁷ But when* you are fasting, _⌊put olive oil on your head_⌋* and wash your face ¹⁸ so that you will not be seen by people as fasting, but to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

⁴² Yet despite that, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it,* so that they would not be expelled from the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than praise from God.

²⁹ And God said, "Look—I am giving to you every plant that bears seed which is on the face of the whole earth, and every kind of tree _⌊that bears fruit_⌋.* They shall be yours as food." ³⁰ And to every kind of animal of the earth and to every bird of heaven,* and to everything that moves upon the earth in which there is life I am giving every green plant as food." And it was so.

³ And he humbled you and let you go hungry, and then he fed you with that which you did not know nor did your ancestors* know, in order to make you know that not by bread alone but by all that goes out* of the mouth of Yahweh humankind shall live.

¹⁶ _⌊So_⌋* the guard _⌊continued to withhold_⌋* their fine food and the wine of their drink, and he gave them* vegetables.

² One believes he may eat all things, but the one who is weak eats only vegetables.

²⁵ And you will serve Yahweh your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will remove sickness from among you.

¹ "And it will happen that if you indeed listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, _⌊to diligently observe_⌋* all his commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* then Yahweh your God will set you above all the nations of the earth. ² And all of these blessings shall come upon you, and _⌊they shall have an effect on you_⌋* if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God: ³ "You will be blessed in the city, and you will be blessed in the field. ⁴ "Blessed will be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock, _⌊the calf of your cattle and the lambs of your flock_⌋.* ⁵ "Blessed will be your basket and your kneading trough. ⁶ "Blessed will you be _⌊when you come in and blessed will you be when you go out_⌋.* ⁷ "Yahweh will cause your enemies _⌊who rise up against you to be defeated before you_⌋;* on one road* they shall come out against you, but on seven roads* they shall flee _⌊before you_⌋.* ⁸ Yahweh will command _⌊concerning you_⌋* the blessing to be in your barns and _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋;* and he will bless you in the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh will establish you for _⌊himself_⌋* as a holy people as he has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and you walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all of the peoples of the earth shall see that _⌊by the name of Yahweh you are called_⌋,* and _⌊they shall fear you_⌋.* ¹¹ And _⌊Yahweh will make you successful and prosperous_⌋,* in the fruit of your womb and on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors* to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open for you his _⌊rich_⌋* storehouse, even the heavens, to give the rain for* your land in its time and to bless all of the work of your hand, and you will lend to many nations; you will not borrow from them. ¹³ And Yahweh shall make you* as head and not the tail, and you shall be only at the top of the nations, and you shall not be at the bottom, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊and diligently observe them_⌋.* ¹⁴ And you shall not turn aside from _⌊any of_⌋* the words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to the right or left by going after other gods to serve them.

⁴² A man came from Baal-Shalishah and brought food to the man of God: firstfruits and twenty loaves of barley bread, with ripe grain in his sack. He said, "Give it to the people and let them eat." ⁴³ Then his servant said, "How can I set this before a hundred men?" He said, "Give it to the people and let them eat, for thus Yahweh says, 'They shall eat and have some left over.'" ⁴⁴ So he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of Yahweh.

¹⁶ The little belonging to the righteous is better than the wealth of many wicked.

²² The blessing of Yahweh makes one rich, and he does not increase sorrow with it.

⁶ You have sown much but have harvested little. You have eaten without being satisfied; _⌊you have drunk without being satiated_⌋;* you have worn clothes without being warm; the one who earns wages puts it in _⌊a pouch with holes_⌋.'*

⁹ 'You have looked for much, and look! It came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts. 'Because my house is desolate and you are running each to your own house!

² If you will not listen, and if you will not _⌊take it to heart_⌋* to give glory to my name," says Yahweh of hosts, "then I will send the curse on you, and I will curse your blessings; moreover I have already cursed them because _⌊you are not taking it to heart_⌋.*

⁴ But he answered and* said, "It is written, 'Man will not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God."*

⁴¹ And taking the five loaves and the two fish and* looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves and gave them* to his disciples so that they could set them* before them. And he distributed the two fish to them all. ⁴² And they all ate and were satisfied.

¹² "Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us _⌊some of the vegetables_⌋,* and let us eat and let us drink water.

⁸ And it happened that in the morning his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called all of the magicians* of Egypt, and all its wise men, and Pharaoh told his dream to them. But _⌊they had no interpretation_⌋* for Pharaoh. ⁹ Then the chief of the cupbearers spoke with Pharaoh, saying, "I remember my sins today. ¹⁰ Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and he put me and the chief baker in the custody of the house of the chief of the guard. ¹¹ And we dreamed a dream one night, I and he, _⌊each with a dream that had a meaning_⌋.* ¹² And there with us was a young man, a Hebrew servant of the chief of the guard, and we told him the dream, and he interpreted our dreams for us, each according to his dream he interpreted. ¹³ And it happened just as he interpreted to us, so it was. He* restored me to my office, and him* he* hanged." ¹⁴ Then Pharaoh sent and called for Joseph, and they brought him quickly from the prison. And he shaved and changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh. ¹⁵ Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I dreamed a dream, but there is none to interpret it. Now, I have heard concerning you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."

⁶ and he said,
"Please hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream.*

¹² behold, I do hereby do according to your word. I hereby give you a wise and discerning heart; there was no one like you before you, nor afterwards will one like you arise.

²⁸ When all of Israel heard the judgment that the king had rendered, they _⌊stood in awe_⌋* of the king, because they realized that the wisdom of God was in him to execute justice.

²⁹ God gave wisdom to Solomon and very great discernment, as well as _⌊breadth of understanding_⌋,* as the sand which is on the edge of the seashore. ³⁰ The wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the people* of the east and more than all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ He was wiser than all the men: Ethan the Ezrahite; Heman, Calcol, and Darda the children of Mahol; and _⌊he was very well known_⌋.*

¹⁰ Now, give to me wisdom and knowledge that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can judge this, your great people?"

¹² wisdom and knowledge is given to you. And I will also give to you wealth, possessions, and honor, the like of which was not had by the kings who were before you, nor will there be the like after you."

⁵ And he began to seek* God in the days of Zechariah who was teaching in visions of God. And _⌊whenever_⌋* he sought Yahweh God made him have success.

⁸ "Truly, it is a spirit in a human being, and the breath of Shaddai teaches them.

⁹⁸ Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, because they* are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more insight than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the elders, for I keep your precepts.

⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

²⁶ For to the person who is good in his eyes, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and heaping up only to give it to him who is pleasing to him. This also is vanity and chasing wind!

²⁶ And his God instructs him about the prescription;* he teaches him.

¹⁹ Then in a vision of the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel; then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom* to wise men and knowledge to men who know understanding.

²³ To you, O God of my ancestors,* I give thanks and I give praises, for the wisdom and the power you gave to me, and now you have made known to me what we have asked from you, for you have made known to us the matter of the king."

⁹ " 'O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians,* I myself know that the spirit* of the holy gods is in you, and _⌊no mystery is too difficult_⌋* for you. Now tell me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its explanation.* ¹⁰ Now these were the visions of my head as I was lying on my bed: I was _⌊gazing_⌋* and, look, a tree was in the midst of the earth, and its height was exalted.

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom _⌊who has the spirit of the holy gods in him_⌋.* And in the days of your _⌊predecessor_⌋,* enlightenment and insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; and, O king, Nebuchadnezzar your _⌊predecessor_⌋* appointed him as chief of the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* and the diviners. Your _⌊predecessor_⌋* the king did this ¹² _⌊because_⌋* there was found in him an excellent spirit and understanding and insight for interpreting dreams and explaining riddles and solving riddles; that is, in Daniel _⌊whom the king named_⌋* Belteshazzar. Now, let Daniel be called and he will tell the explanation."*

¹⁴ And I have heard that a spirit of the gods is in you and enlightenment and insight and excellent wisdom was found in you.

¹ In the first year of Belshazzar the king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions* of his head as he lay on his bed; then he wrote down the dream and the _⌊summary_⌋* of the words _⌊as follows_⌋:*

¹ In the third year of the kingdom of Belshazzar the king, a vision appeared _⌊to me, Daniel_⌋,* after the one that appeared to me _⌊previously_⌋.*

¹ In the third year of Cyrus the king of the Persians, a word* was revealed to Daniel, who was called by his name Belteshazzar, and the word* was reliable and it concerned a great tribulation,* and he understood the word* and _⌊he received understanding_⌋.*

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom that all your opponents will not be able to resist or contradict.

¹⁰ And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

⁷ But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for what is beneficial to all. ⁸ For to one is given a word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit, to another* gifts of healing by the one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another* _⌊miraculous powers_⌋*, to another* prophecy, to another* distinguishing of spirits, to another kinds of tongues, to another* interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ But in all these things one and the same Spirit is at work, distributing to each one individually just as he wishes.

⁹ Because of this also we, from the day we heard about it,* did not cease praying for you, and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual insight,

⁵ Now if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask for it from God, who gives to all without reservation and not reproaching, and it will be given to him.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of change.

¹ Elijah the Tishbite from Tishbe of Gilead said to Ahab, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* the God of Israel before whom I stand, there shall surely not be dew nor rain these years _⌊except by my command_⌋."*

⁷ and your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, but God has not allowed him to harm me.

⁸ And it happened that in the morning his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called all of the magicians* of Egypt, and all its wise men, and Pharaoh told his dream to them. But _⌊they had no interpretation_⌋* for Pharaoh.

¹¹ And Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise with their secret arts. ¹² Each threw down his staff, and they became snakes, and Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

²² And the magicians of Egypt did likewise with their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

⁷ And the magicians did likewise with their secret arts, and they brought up frogs over the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ And the magicians said to Pharaoh, "It is the finger of God." But the heart of Pharaoh was hard, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

²² But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice,

²⁹ God gave wisdom to Solomon and very great discernment, as well as _⌊breadth of understanding_⌋,* as the sand which is on the edge of the seashore. ³⁰ The wisdom of Solomon was greater than the wisdom of all the people* of the east and more than all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ He was wiser than all the men: Ethan the Ezrahite; Heman, Calcol, and Darda the children of Mahol; and _⌊he was very well known_⌋.* ³² He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five. ³³ He spoke concerning the trees, from the cedar which is in Lebanon up to the hyssop which grows on the wall; he also spoke concerning the animals, concerning the birds, concerning the creeping things, and concerning the fish. ³⁴ They came from all the nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon; from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.

¹ Now the queen of Sheba had heard of the fame of Solomon regarding the name of Yahweh, and she came to test him with hard questions. ² So she came to Jerusalem with very great wealth; with camels carrying spices, very much gold, and precious stones. She came to Solomon, and she spoke to him all that was on her heart. ³ _⌊Solomon answered all of her questions_⌋;* there was not a thing hidden from the king which he could not explain to her.

²³ King Solomon was greater than all the kings of the earth with respect to wealth and wisdom. ²⁴ All of the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart.

¹² When the Jews who lived beside them came, they said to us ten times, "From all of the places where they live, they will come up against us."

³ These ten times you* have disgraced me; you* are not ashamed that you* have attacked* me.

⁹⁹ I have more insight than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.

³ And the spirit of _⌊the Egyptians_⌋* will be disturbed in his midst, and I will _⌊confuse_⌋* his plans,* and they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, and the ghosts and the spiritists.

¹² Stand, now, in your enchantments, and in your many sorceries with which you have labored from your youth. Perhaps you may be able to benefit; perhaps you may _⌊scare away_⌋.* ¹³ You struggle with your many consultations;* let them stand, now, and save you— those who see the stars, divide the _⌊celestial sphere_⌋,* who inform by new moons— from those things that are coming upon you. ¹⁴ Look! They are like stubble; the fire burns them completely. They cannot deliver _⌊themselves_⌋* from the _⌊power_⌋* of the flame; there is no coal _⌊for warming oneself_⌋,* no fire before which to sit.

² So the king said to call the magicians* and the conjurers* and the sorcerers and the _⌊astrologers_⌋* to tell to the king his dreams. And they came in and they stood _⌊before_⌋* the king. ³ And the king said to them, "_⌊I have had a dream_⌋* and my spirit is anxious to know the dream." ⁴ And the _⌊astrologers_⌋* said to the king in Aramaic,* "O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants and we will reveal the explanation." ⁵ The king answered and said to the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* "The command from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its explanation,* then you will be broken into pieces and your houses will be laid in ruins. ⁶ But if you tell me the dream and its explanation, you will receive gifts and rewards* and great honor from me. Therefore, tell me the dream and its explanation."* ⁷ They answered once more and said, "Let the king tell the dream to his servants and we will make the explanation known." ⁸ The king answered and said, "_⌊Certainly_⌋* I know that _⌊you are trying to gain time_⌋* _⌊because_⌋* you have seen _⌊that this matter is firmly decreed by me_⌋,* ⁹ for if you do not make the dream known to me, _⌊your verdict is fixed_⌋,* and you have conspired to say a lying and deceitful word to me until the _⌊circumstances_⌋* will change. Therefore, tell me the dream, and I will know that you can tell me its explanation." ¹⁰ The _⌊astrologers_⌋* answered the king and said, "There is not a man on earth that is able to reveal the word of the king; _⌊in fact_⌋,* no great and powerful king has ever asked a thing like this of any magician* or conjurer* or _⌊astrologer_⌋.* ¹¹ And the thing that the king is asking is too difficult and _⌊there is no one who_⌋* can reveal it to the king except the gods _⌊whose dwelling is not with mortals_⌋."*

¹³ And the decree was issued, and the wise men _⌊were on the verge of being executed_⌋,* and they searched for Daniel and his companions to be executed.

²⁷ Daniel answered the king and said, "The mystery that the king asks, no wise men, conjurers,* magicians,* or diviners are able to make known to the king. ²⁸ But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed.

⁷ Then the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋* and the diviners came in and I told them the dream, but they could not make known to me its explanation.* ⁸ Then _⌊at last_⌋* Daniel came before me _⌊whose name was_⌋* Belteshazzar, _⌊according to_⌋* the name of my god, and _⌊in whom was the spirit of the holy gods_⌋,* _⌊and I related the dream to him_⌋.* ⁹ " 'O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians,* I myself know that the spirit* of the holy gods is in you, and _⌊no mystery is too difficult_⌋* for you. Now tell me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its explanation.* ¹⁰ Now these were the visions of my head as I was lying on my bed: I was _⌊gazing_⌋* and, look, a tree was in the midst of the earth, and its height was exalted. ¹¹ The tree grew and it became strong, and its height reached to heaven,* and _⌊it was visible to the end of the whole earth_⌋.* ¹² Its foliage was beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was provision for all. Under it the animals* of the field sought shade, and in its branches the birds of heaven* nested, and from it all the living beings were fed. ¹³ " 'I was looking in the vision of my head as I lay on my bed, and look, a watcher,* and a holy one, came down from heaven. ¹⁴ He cried _⌊aloud_⌋* and so he said:
"Cut down the tree and chop off its branches; shake off its foliage and scatter its fruit. Let the animals flee from under it, and the birds from its branches. ¹⁵ But the stump of its roots leave in the earth, _⌊along with_⌋* a band of iron and bronze; leave it in the grass of the field. And in* the dew of heaven let it* be watered, and with the animals* let his lot be in the grass of the earth. ¹⁶ Let his mind be changed from that of a human,* and let the mind of an animal be given to him, and let seven times pass over him. ¹⁷ The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the decision by the command of the holy ones, _⌊in order that_⌋* the living will know that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of humankind, and _⌊to whomever_⌋* he wills he gives it, and he even sets the humblest of men over it." ¹⁸ " 'This is the dream that I, Nebuchadnezzar the king, saw. Now* you, Belteshazzar, declare its explanation, _⌊for_⌋* all of the wise men of my kingdom were not able to make the explanation known to me, but you are able because the spirit of holy gods is in you.'

⁷ The king cried _⌊aloud_⌋* to bring in the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋* and the diviners; the king _⌊spoke_⌋* and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Any man that can read this writing and can tell me its explanation will be clothed in purple and will have a necklace of gold hung around his neck and he will rule as third in authority in the kingdom." ⁸ Then all the wise men of the king came in, but they were not able to read the writing or to make known its explanation.*

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be for yourself or your rewards give to another; nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and I will make known to him the explanation.*

⁸ And _⌊just as_⌋* Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these oppose the truth, people corrupted in mind, disqualified concerning the faith. ⁹ But they will not progress to a greater extent, for their folly will be quite evident to everyone, as also the folly of those two was.

²⁸ So this Daniel prospered during the kingdom of Darius and during the kingdom of Cyrus the Persian.
