¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your offspring.' ² And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites,* the Amorites,* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,* ³ Go to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way." ⁴ And the people heard this troubling* word, and they mourned, and they each did not put their ornaments on themselves. ⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'You are a stiff-necked people; if one moment I were to go up among you, I would destroy you. And now take down your ornaments from on you, and I will _⌊decide_⌋* what I will do to you." ⁶ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* stripped themselves of their ornaments from Mount Horeb onward. ⁷ And Moses took the tent and pitched it outside the camp far from the camp, and he called it the tent of assembly, _⌊and_⌋* all seeking Yahweh would go out to the tent of assembly, which was outside the camp. ⁸ _⌊And_⌋* at the going out of Moses to the tent, all the people would rise and stand, each at the opening of his tent, and gaze after Moses until his entering the tent. ⁹ _⌊And_⌋* at the entering of Moses into the tent the column of cloud would descend and stand at the opening of the tent, and he would speak with Moses. ¹⁰ And all the people would see the column of cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people would rise and bow in worship, each at the opening of his tent. ¹¹ And Yahweh would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his neighbor. And he would return to the camp, and his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the middle of the tent. ¹² And Moses said to Yahweh, "See, you are saying to me, 'Take this people up.' But you have not let me know whom you will send with me, and you yourself have said, 'I know you by name, and you also have found favor in my eyes.' ¹³ And now if I have found favor in your eyes, make known to me, please, your way, and so I may know you so that I can find favor in your eyes. And see that this nation is your people." ¹⁴ And he said, "My presence will go, and I will give you rest." ¹⁵ And he said to him, "If your presence is not going, do not bring us up from here. ¹⁶ And by what will it be known then that I have found favor in your eyes, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us? And so we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the ground." ¹⁷ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Also I will do this thing that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my eyes and I have known you by name." ¹⁸ And he said, "Please show me your glory." ¹⁹ And he said, "I myself will cause all my goodness to pass over before you, and I will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show compassion to whom I will show compassion." ²⁰ But he said, "You are not able to see my face, because a human will not see me and live." ²¹ And Yahweh said, "There is a place with me, and you will stand on the rock. ²² _⌊And_⌋* when my glory passes over, I will put you in the rock's crevice, and I will cover you with my hand until I pass over. ²³ And I will remove my hand, and you will see my back, but my face will not be visible."

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north, and to the south, and to the east and to the west, ¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. ¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. ¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares Yahweh, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, ¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies. ¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?"

¹ And the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, and the people gathered opposite Aaron, and they said to him, "Come,* make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him."

⁷ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go down because your people behave corruptly, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'"

³⁴ And now go, lead the people to where I spoke to you. Look, my angel will go before you, and on the day when I punish I will punish them for their sin."

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

¹⁷ And I said, "I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* to a land flowing with milk and honey." '

²⁰ " 'Look, I am about to send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place that I have prepared.

²⁷ " 'I will release my terror before you, and I will throw into confusion all the people against whom you come, and I will _⌊make all your enemies turn their back to you_⌋.* ²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites,* the Canaanites,* and the Hittites* from before you. ²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become a desolation and _⌊the wild animals_⌋* multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land. ³¹ " 'And I will set your boundary from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and up to the sea of the Philistines and from the desert up to the river,* because I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out from before you.

¹¹ "Keep for yourself what I myself have commanded you today. Look, I am about to drive from before you the Amorites and the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

²² And Yahweh your God will clear away these nations _⌊from before you_⌋* little by little; you will not be able to finish them off quickly, _⌊lest_⌋* the _⌊wild animals_⌋* _⌊multiply_⌋* _⌊against you_⌋.*

¹¹ and you crossed the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the citizens of Jericho, the Amorites,* the Perizzites,* the Canaanites,* the Hittites,* the Girgashites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites,* fought against you, and I gave them into your hand.

⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month.

²¹ Be attentive to him and listen to his voice; do not rebel against him, because he will not forgive your transgression, for my name is in him.

⁹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "I have seen this people, and, indeed, they are a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that _⌊my anger may blaze_⌋* against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation."

¹⁴ And Yahweh relented concerning the disaster that he had _⌊threatened_⌋* to do to his people.

¹⁵ And he said to him, "If your presence is not going, do not bring us up from here. ¹⁶ And by what will it be known then that I have found favor in your eyes, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us? And so we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the ground." ¹⁷ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Also I will do this thing that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my eyes and I have known you by name."

⁹ And he said, "Please, if I have found favor in your eyes, Lord, let my Lord, please, go among us—indeed it is a stiff-necked people—and forgive our iniquity and our sin and _⌊take us as your possession_⌋."*

²⁴ So* I said to you, "You yourselves shall take possession of their land, and I myself shall give it to you to possess it—a land flowing with milk and honey"; I am Yahweh your God, who _⌊has set you apart_⌋* from the nations.

²⁷ And they told him,* "We came to the land that you sent us, and it is flowing of milk and honey; this is its fruit.

⁸ If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and he will give it to us, a land that is flowing with milk and honey.

¹² I will strike them* with disease, and I will dispossess them;* I will make you into a greater and stronger nation than them."*

¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us?

²¹ "Separate yourselves from the midst of this community, that I can destroy them in a moment."

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces.

⁶ "So you should understand that it is not because of your righteousness that Yahweh your God is giving you this good land to take possession of it, because _⌊you are a stubborn people_⌋. * ⁷ Remember, _⌊do not forget_⌋,* that you provoked Yahweh your God in the desert, and from the day that you went out from the land of Egypt until _⌊you came to this place_⌋* you were rebelling against Yahweh. ⁸ "And remember at Horeb you provoked Yahweh, and Yahweh became angry enough to destroy you. ⁹ _⌊When I went up the mountain_⌋* to receive _⌊the stone tablets_⌋,* the tablets of the covenant that Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* with you, and remained on the mountain forty days* and forty nights,* I did not eat food and I did not drink water. ¹⁰ And Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them was writing according to all the words that Yahweh spoke with you at the mountain, from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. ¹¹ _⌊And then_⌋* at the end of forty days* and forty nights,* Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. ¹² And Yahweh said to me, 'Come now, go down quickly from this mountain because your people behave corruptly whom you brought out from Egypt, for they turned quickly from the way that I commanded them to follow; they have made for themselves a cast image.' ¹³ And Yahweh spoke to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'I have seen this people, and look! _⌊They are a stubborn people_⌋.*

²⁶ I thought, "I will wipe them out; _⌊I will make people forget they ever existed_⌋."* ²⁷ If I had not feared a provocation of the enemy, lest their foes might misunderstand, * lest they should say, * "Our hand is _⌊triumphant_⌋,* and Yahweh did not do all this." '

⁶ For forty years the _⌊Israelites_⌋* traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of Yahweh. To them Yahweh swore that they would not see the land that he* swore to their ancestors* to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

³⁰ Therefore,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh the God of Israel, 'though I solemnly said that your house and the house of your ancestor* would walk before me forever, but now,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me, I will treat with contempt!

⁸ and not be like their ancestors,* a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not make ready its heart, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

⁵ in order to keep the oath that I swore to your ancestors,* to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day." '" Then I answered and said, "_⌊Let it be so_⌋,* O Yahweh."

⁷ One moment I speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, to uproot, and to tear down, and to destroy it.* ⁸ But if that nation turns back from its evil that I have threatened against it, then I will relent concerning the disaster that I planned to do to it. ⁹ And the next moment I speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom, to build, and to plant it.* ¹⁰ But if it does evil in my sight, to not listen to my voice, then I will relent concerning the good that I said I would do to it.

¹⁸ _⌊When I say_⌋* to the wicked, 'Surely you will die,' and you do not warn him and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way _⌊so that he may live_⌋,* that wicked person will die because of his guilt, and from your hand I will seek his blood. ¹⁹ And you, if you do warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness and from his wicked way, on account of his guilt he will die, and you yourself will have saved your life.*

¹³ When I say to the righteous, 'Certainly he will live,' and he trusted in* his righteousness, and he turns and he does injustice, all of his righteousness* will not be remembered, and because of his injustice that he did, because of it he will die. ¹⁴ And when I say to the wicked, 'Certainly you will die,' but* he returns from his sin and he does justice and righteousness— ¹⁵ for example, the wicked returns a pledge for a loan, he restores _⌊stolen property_⌋,* he goes in the statutes of life so as not to do injustice—certainly he will live; he will not die. ¹⁶ All of his _⌊sins that he committed_⌋,* they will not be remembered against* him, and he did justice and righteousness; certainly he will live.

¹³ "Listen and testify against the house of Jacob," _⌊declares_⌋* my Lord Yahweh, the God of hosts. ¹⁴ "For on the day I punish Israel for _⌊its transgression_⌋,* I will also punish the altars of Bethel and the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.

⁴ And Jonah began to go into the city a journey of one day, and he cried out and said, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be demolished!"*

¹⁰ And God saw their deeds—that they turned from their evil ways—and God changed his mind about the evil that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it.*

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you!

⁶ Then* Moses said to Aaron and to his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, "You must not let your hair hang loosely, and you must not tear your garments, so that* you will not die and he* will be angry with all the community. But* your brothers, all the house of Israel, may weep because of _⌊the burning that Yahweh caused_⌋,*

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night.

³⁹ And Moses spoke words to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and the people mourned greatly.

²⁴ Now, Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; he had not taken care of his feet nor trimmed his moustache nor washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he came back in peace.

²⁷ When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth over his flesh, fasted, lay in the sackcloth, and went about dejectedly.

¹ It happened that when King Hezekiah heard, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went to the temple of Yahweh.

³ When I heard this I tore my garment and my robe, and I pulled the hair out from my head and beard, and I sat appalled.

¹ Mordecai learned all that had been done and he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes. And he went through the middle of the city and cried out a loud and bitter cry; ² he went up to the entrance of the gate of the king, for he could not go to the gate of the king in sackcloth. ³ In every province each place where the king's edict and his law came, there was great mourning for the Jews with fasting, crying, wailing, and sackcloth; and ashes were spread out as a bed for them. ⁴ And Esther's maids and her eunuchs came and they told her, and the queen was deeply distressed; she sent garments to clothe Mordecai so that he might remove his sackcloth—but he did not accept them.

²⁰ Then* Job arose and tore his outer garment* and shaved his head; _⌊then_⌋* he fell upon the ground and he worshiped.

¹² Thus* they lifted up their eyes* from afar, but* they did not recognize him, so* they raised their voice, and they wept, and each man tore his outer garment* and threw dust on their heads _⌊toward the sky_⌋.*

¹¹ Tremble, you who are at ease; tremble, carefree ones; strip, and strip yourself, and gird yourself on your loins,*

¹⁷ Sigh in silence for the dead; you shall not make a mourning ceremony. Bind your turban on you, and you must put your sandals on your feet. You must not cover your upper lip,* and the bread of _⌊mourners_⌋* you shall not eat."

²³ And your turban must be on your heads, and your sandals must be on your feet. You shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, but you shall waste away because of your iniquities, and you shall groan _⌊to one another_⌋.*

¹⁶ And all the princes of the sea will go down from their thrones, and they will remove their robes, and their _⌊beautiful garments_⌋* of finished cloth they will take off. With terror they will be clothed, and on the ground they will sit, and they will tremble _⌊continually_⌋,* and they will be appalled over you.

¹⁴ They do not cry out to me from their heart, but they wail on their beds; because of grain and new wine they lacerate* themselves; they depart from me.

⁶ And the news reached the king of Nineveh, and he rose from his throne and removed his royal robe, put on sackcloth, and sat in the ashes.

³ saying to the _⌊priests of the house of Yahweh of hosts_⌋* and to the prophets, "Should I mourn in the fifth month and keep myself separate* as I have done for these many years?"

⁵ "Say to all the people of the land and to the priests: 'When you fasted and lamented in the fifth and seventh months for these seventy years, did you really fast for me?

²¹ I will go down and I will see. Have they done altogether according to its cry of distress which has come to me? If not, I will know."

¹² And he said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the boy; do not do anything to him. For now I know that you are _⌊one who fears_⌋* God, since you have not withheld your son, your only child, from me."

³ Go to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way." ⁴ And the people heard this troubling* word, and they mourned, and they each did not put their ornaments on themselves.

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses and Aaron said, "Take the censer, and put fire on it from the altar. Place incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community, and make atonement for them, because wrath went out from the presence of Yahweh, and a plague has begun."

² And you shall remember all of the way that Yahweh your God led you during these forty years in the desert in order to humble you and to test you to know what is in your heart, whether you would diligently keep his commandments or not.

²⁰ In a moment they die, and in the middle of the night the people are shaken, and they pass away, and they take away the mighty _⌊effortlessly_⌋.*

¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

¹² And the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, called on that day
for weeping and mourning, and for baldness and girding _⌊with_⌋* sackcloth.

⁶ The iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom; it was overthrown in a moment and no hands were laid on her.

³ And all the people took off the rings of gold that were on their ears and brought it to Aaron.

⁴ And the people heard this troubling* word, and they mourned, and they each did not put their ornaments on themselves.

¹⁹ Your wickedness will chastise you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is evil and bitter, your forsaking of Yahweh, your God, and fear of me is not in you," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord, Yahweh of hosts.

⁴² It will be a burnt offering of continuity throughout your generations at the entrance of the tent of assembly before Yahweh, where I will meet with you to speak to you there. ⁴³ "And I will meet with the _⌊Israelites_⌋* there, and it will be consecrated by my glory.

²⁹ But from there you shall seek Yahweh your God and will find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.*

¹ There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David _⌊inquired of Yahweh_⌋,* and Yahweh said, "The bloodguilt is on Saul and on his household, because he killed the Gibeonites."

¹ Why, O Yahweh, do you stand far off? Why do you hide* during times of distress?

⁸ On your behalf my heart says, "Seek my face." Your face, O Yahweh, I do seek.

²² You have seen, O Yahweh. Do not be deaf. O Lord, do not be far from me.

²⁹ Yahweh is far from the wicked, but the prayers of the righteous he will hear.

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of sin his thoughts. And let him return to Yahweh, that* he may take pity on him, and to our God, for he will _⌊forgive manifold_⌋.*

² Rather, your iniquities have been _⌊barriers_⌋* between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, from hearing.

¹² Even though they bring up their children, I will bereave them before maturity.* Woe to them indeed, when I depart from them!

⁷ "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

¹¹ For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sins are burned up outside the camp. ¹² Therefore Jesus also suffered outside the gate, in order that he might sanctify the people by his own blood. ¹³ So we must go out to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

²⁷ And so they moved away from around the dwellings* of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out standing at the doorway of their tents, with their wives, sons, and little children.

²² When* he finished speaking with him, God went up from Abraham.

³³ Then Yahweh left,* as he finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

²¹ And Yahweh was going before them by day in a column of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a column of fire to give light to them to go by day and night. ²² The column of cloud by day and the column of fire by night did not depart from before the people.

²² And I will meet you there, and I will speak with you from over the atonement cover, from between the two cherubim that are to be on the ark of the testimony—all that I will command you to the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

¹⁸ And when he finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, he gave to Moses the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets, written with the finger of God.

¹¹ And Yahweh would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his neighbor. And he would return to the camp, and his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the middle of the tent.

³ And no one will go up with you, and neither let anyone be seen on all the mountain, nor let the sheep and goats and the cattle graze _⌊opposite_⌋* that mountain."

¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you there; I will take away from the spirit that is on you, and I will place it on them; and they will bear the burdens of the people with you; you will not bear it alone.

⁷ He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud. They kept his testimonies and the statute he gave to them.

²² And the hand of Yahweh was on me there, and he said to me, "Rise up, go out to the valley, and there I will speak with you."

³¹ And the people believed when they heard that Yahweh had attended to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and that he had seen their misery, and they knelt down and they worshiped.

¹⁴ Then the king turned his face around, and he blessed all of the assembly of Israel. (Now all the assembly of Israel was standing).

²² Then Solomon stood before the altar of Yahweh in the presence of all of the assembly of Israel, and he spread out his hands to the heavens,

¹³ But the tax collector, standing far away, did not want even to raise his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!'

³⁰ Then Jacob called the name of the place Peniel which means "I have seen God face to face and my life was spared."

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight against Amalek tomorrow. I will be standing on the top of the hill, and the staff of God will be in my hand."

¹³ And Moses got up, and Joshua, his assistant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

¹⁷ And Joshua heard the sound of the people in their shouting, and he said to Moses, "A sound of war is in the camp."

⁹ _⌊And_⌋* at the entering of Moses into the tent the column of cloud would descend and stand at the opening of the tent, and he would speak with Moses.

⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth, in clearness, not in riddles; and he will look at the form of Yahweh.
Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

⁴ _⌊Face to face_⌋* Yahweh spoke with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire.

¹⁰ And not again* has a prophet arisen in Israel like Moses, whom Yahweh knew* face to face,

⁷ O, our God, did you yourself not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it to the descendants* of Abraham your friend forever?

²¹ and it argues* for a mortal with God, and as _⌊a human_⌋* for his friend.

⁸ I am Yahweh; that is my name,
and I do not give my glory to another, nor* my praise to the idols.

²⁹ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices _⌊greatly_⌋* because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is complete.

¹¹ He said these things, and after this he said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I can awaken him."

¹⁴ You are my friends if you do what I command you. ¹⁵ No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness,"* and he was called God's friend.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

¹⁰ And now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, and you must bring my people, the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* out from Egypt."

¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought up from the land of Egypt, to the land that I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your offspring.'

¹⁷ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Also I will do this thing that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my eyes and I have known you by name."

⁶ for Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,* but the way of the wicked will perish.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.*

⁵ "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you came out from the womb I consecrated you; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

¹⁴ "I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me, ¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.

¹⁹ However, the solid foundation of God stands firm, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his,"* and "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must abstain from unrighteousness."

¹⁷ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Also I will do this thing that you have spoken, because you have found favor in my eyes and I have known you by name." ¹⁸ And he said, "Please show me your glory."

²⁶ And I prayed to Yahweh, and I said, 'Lord Yahweh, you must not destroy your people and your inheritance whom you redeemed in your greatness,* whom you brought out from Egypt with a strong hand.

²⁹ For they are your people and your inheritance whom you brought with your great power and with your outstretched arm.'

⁴ Make me know your ways, O Yahweh. Teach me your paths.

¹¹ Teach me, O Yahweh, your way, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.

¹¹ Teach me, O Yahweh, your way, that I may walk in your truth. Unite my heart* to fear your name.

³³ Teach me, O Yahweh, the way of your statutes, and I will keep it to the end.

⁷ Tell me, you whom my _⌊heart_⌋* loves, where do you pasture your flock, where do your sheep lie down at the noon? _⌊For why should I be like_⌋* one who is veiled* beside the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow _⌊the tracks_⌋* of the flock, and pasture your little lambs* beside the tents of the shepherds.

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word from behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it," when you go to your right and when you go to your left.

¹⁷ Why do you make us wander, Yahweh? You harden our heart from your ways _⌊so that we do not fear_⌋* you. Turn back for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your inheritance.

¹⁹ We have been since antiquity; you did not rule them; _⌊they were not called by your name_⌋.*

¹⁷ Between the colonnade and the altar, let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep. And let them say, "Take pity, Yahweh, on your people. Do not make your inheritance a reproach, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the nations, 'Where is their God?'"

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

²⁸ With respect to the gospel, they are enemies for your sake, but with respect to election, they are dearly loved for the sake of the fathers.

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, _⌊the glorious Father_⌋*,* may give you a spirit of wisdom* and revelation in the knowledge of him

¹⁰ so that you may live in a manner worthy of the Lord, _⌊to please him in all respects_⌋*, bearing fruit in every good deed and increasing in the knowledge of God,

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

²¹ And Yahweh was going before them by day in a column of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a column of fire to give light to them to go by day and night.

²⁰ until Yahweh shall give rest to your brothers as he did to you, and also they take possession of the land that Yahweh your God is giving to them beyond the Jordan; then they may return, each one to his possession that I have given to them.

⁵ No one will stand before you* all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so will I be with you; I will not fail you, and I will not forsake you.

⁴⁴ Yahweh gave them rest on every side, according to all that he had sworn to their ancestors,* and nobody from all their enemies withstood them, for Yahweh had given all their enemies into their hand.

⁴ So then, Yahweh your God has given rest to your kinsmen,* just as he promised them; so then, turn and go to your tents to the land of your possession, which Moses Yahweh's servant gave to you beyond the Jordan.

¹ And it happened, after _⌊a long time_⌋,* after Yahweh had given rest to Israel from all their surrounding enemies, and after Joshua was old and _⌊well-advanced in years_⌋,*

¹¹ Therefore I swore in my anger, 'They shall surely not enter into my rest.'"

⁹ In all their distress, _⌊there was no distress_⌋,* and the messenger of his _⌊presence_⌋* saved them, in his love and compassion he himself redeemed them, and he lifted them up, and he supported them all the days of old.

¹⁶ Thus says Yahweh: "Stand at the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the way of the good is, and walk in it, and find rest for your inner selves.* But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'*

²⁸ Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

²⁰ teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you, and behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the age."

⁸ For if Joshua had caused them to rest, he would not have spoken about another day after these things. ⁹ Consequently a sabbath rest remains for the people of God.

³ Go to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way."

⁶ Many are saying, "Who will show us something good?" Lift up over* us the light of your face, O Yahweh.

²² But on that day I will distinguish* the land of Goshen, where my people are staying, by there not being flies there, so that you will know that I am Yahweh in the midst of the land.

⁵ And now if you will carefully listen to my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a treasured possession for me out of all the peoples, _⌊for all the earth is mine_⌋,* ⁶ but you, you will belong to me as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋."*

¹⁰ And he said, "Look, I am about to make a covenant. In front of all your people I will do wonders that have not been created on all the earth and among all the nations, and all the people among whom you are will see Yahweh's work, because what I am about to do with you will be awesome.

¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night.

⁹ Because from the top of the rocks I see him, from hilltops I watch him. Behold, a people who dwell alone, they do not consider themselves among the nations.

⁷ For what great nation has for it a god near to it as Yahweh our God, whenever* we call upon him?

³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself* a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

²³ Who is like your people, like Israel? Israel is the one nation on earth whose God _⌊led them_⌋,* in order to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to do for you* the great and awesome things for your land in the presence of your people whom he redeemed for himself from Egypt, from the nations and their gods.

⁵³ For you have separated them for yourself as an inheritance from all the peoples of the earth, as you promised through the hand of Moses your servant when you brought out our ancestors* from Egypt, my Lord Yahweh!"

²⁰ He has not done so for any nation, and they do not know his ordinances. Praise Yah.*

²³ "Behold, the virgin _⌊will become pregnant_⌋* and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,"*
which is translated, "God with us."*

¹⁷ Therefore "come out from their midst and be separate," says the Lord, "and do not touch what is unclean,* and I will welcome you,*

⁸ But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh.

³² And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak only once more. What if* ten are found there?" And he answered, "I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten."

¹⁹ Behold, your servant has found favor in your eyes and _⌊you have shown me great kindness_⌋* in saving my life. But I cannot flee to the mountains, lest the disaster overtake me and I die.

²¹ And he said to him, "Behold, _⌊I will grant this favor as well_⌋;* that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

¹² And Moses said to Yahweh, "See, you are saying to me, 'Take this people up.' But you have not let me know whom you will send with me, and you yourself have said, 'I know you by name, and you also have found favor in my eyes.'

²⁴ And this will happen: before they call, I myself will answer; while still they are speaking, I myself will hear.

²³ And on that day you will ask me nothing. Truly, truly I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you.

¹⁶ Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have before him: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

²⁰ But he said, "You are not able to see my face, because a human will not see me and live."

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, reflecting* the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory into glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

¹⁶ the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹³ looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

²³ And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

¹³ But Moses said to God, "Look, if I go to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and I say to them, 'The God of your ancestors* has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is his name?' then what shall I say to them?" ¹⁴ And God said to Moses, "I am that I am." And he said, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am sent me to you.'" ¹⁵ And God said again to Moses, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation.'

⁵ And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and he stood with him there, and he proclaimed the name of Yahweh. ⁶ And Yahweh passed over before him, and he proclaimed, "Yahweh, Yahweh, God, who is compassionate and gracious, _⌊slow to anger_⌋,* and abounding with* loyal love and faithfulness, ⁷ keeping loyal love to the thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and he does not leave utterly unpunished, punishing the guilt of fathers on sons and on sons of sons on third and fourth generations."

²⁵ And they captured fortified cities and a fertile land and took possession of houses filled with every good thing: hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and many fruit trees. They ate and became full, and they became fat and took delight in your great goodness.

¹³ His soul will lodge in prosperity, and his offspring will possess the land.

⁴ Blessed is one whom you choose and bring near, that he may abide in your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house, your holy temple.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you* a sign. Look! the virgin* is with child and she is about to give birth to a son, and she shall call his name 'God with us.'

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁴ And you will say on that day,
"Give thanks to Yahweh; call on his name. Make his deeds known among the peoples; bring to remembrance that his name is exalted.

¹² And they will come, and they will sing for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the goodness of Yahweh, over the grain, and over the wine, and over the olive oil, and over the young ones of the flock, and over the cattle. And their life will become like a well-watered garden, and they will never languish again."

¹⁴ And I will saturate the appetite of the priests with fatness, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁷ For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women.

⁴ Or do you despise the wealth of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

¹⁵ For to Moses he says, "I will have mercy on whomever I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I have compassion."* ¹⁶ Consequently therefore, _⌊it does not depend on the_⌋* one who wills or on the one who runs, but on God who shows mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very reason I have raised you up, so that I may demonstrate my power in you, and so that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."* ¹⁸ Consequently therefore, he has mercy on whomever he wishes, and he hardens whomever he wishes.

²³ And he did so* in order that he could make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy that he prepared beforehand for glory,

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace that he bestowed on us in the beloved, ⁷ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace, ⁸ that he caused to abound to us in all wisdom and insight,

¹⁰ And they saw the God of Israel, and what was under his feet was like sapphire tile work and like the very heavens for clearness.

²⁴ you said, 'Look, Yahweh our God has shown us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice from the midst of the fire; this day we have seen* that God can speak with a human being, _⌊yet he remains alive_⌋.*

²² And Gideon realized that he was the angel of Yahweh; and Gideon said, "Oh, my lord Yahweh! For now I have seen the angel of Yahweh face to face."

²² And Manoah said to his wife, "We will certainly die because we have seen God."

⁵ And I said, "Woe to me! For I am destroyed!* For I am a man _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* and I am living among* a people _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* for my eyes have seen the king, Yahweh of hosts!"

¹³ But to which of the angels has he ever said,
"Sit down at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."*

¹⁶ and he had in his right hand seven stars, and a sharp double-edged sword coming out of his mouth, and his face was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

³¹ But you stand here with me, and let me tell you all of the commandments and the rules and the regulations that you shall teach them, so that they may do them in the land that I am giving to them to take possession of it.'

⁴ The killer will flee to one of these cities, stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and _⌊state his case to the elders of that city_⌋;* and they will take him* into the city and give him a place, and he will dwell among them.

⁵ And I will give them a monument and a name in my house and within my walls, better than sons and daughters; I will give him an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.

⁷ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my requirements, then you will judge* my house, and you will also guard my courtyards, and I will give to you passageways* among these that are standing here.

¹ Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were drawing near to hear him.

¹² Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of Yahweh dwells _⌊securely_⌋,* the Most High* shields all around him, all the day, and between his shoulders he dwells."

² Yahweh is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I have taken refuge, my shield and the horn of my deliverance, my stronghold.

¹ One who lives in the secret place* of the Most High will lodge in the shadow of Shaddai.*

⁴ With his feathers he will cover you, and under his wings you can take refuge. His faithfulness will be a shield and a buckler.*

³ As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. In his shade _⌊I sat down with delight_⌋,* and his fruit was sweet to my palate.

²¹ to enter into the crevices of the rocks and into the clefts of the crags from the presence of the terror of Yahweh and from the glory of his majesty, _⌊when he rises_⌋* to terrify the earth.

² And each one will be like a hiding place from the wind and a covering from the rainstorm, like streams of water in a dry region, like the shade of a large rock in a weary land.

⁴ and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

⁷ "Can you find out the essence of God, or can you find out _⌊the ultimate limits_⌋* of Shaddai?

¹⁴ Look, these are the outer fringes of his ways, and _⌊how faint is the word_⌋* that we hear of him! But* who can understand the thunder of his power?"

¹² For now we see through a mirror _⌊indirectly_⌋*, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know completely, just as I have also been completely known.
