And Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, to Gerar. ² And Yahweh appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land which I will show to you. ³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father. ⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, ⁵ because Abraham listened to my voice and kept my charge: my commandments, my statutes, and my laws." ⁶ So Isaac settled in Gerar. ⁷ When the men of the place asked concerning his wife, he said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "my wife," thinking* "the men of the place will kill me on account of Rebekah, for _⌊she was beautiful_⌋."* ⁸ And it happened that, _⌊when he had been there a long time_⌋,* Abimelech the king of the Philistines looked through the window, and saw—behold—Isaac was fondling Rebekah his wife. ⁹ And Abimelech called Isaac* and said, "Surely she is your wife. Now why did you say 'She is my sister'?" And Isaac said to him, "Because I thought I would die on account of her." ¹⁰ And Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have slept with your wife! Then you would have brought guilt upon us!" ¹¹ Then Abimelech instructed all the people, saying, "The one who touches this man or his wife shall certainly die." ¹² And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that same year a hundredfold, and Yahweh blessed him. ¹³ And the man _⌊became wealthier and wealthier_⌋* until he was exceedingly wealthy. ¹⁴ And he possessed sheep and cattle and many servants, so that the Philistines envied him. ¹⁵ And the Philistines stopped up all the wells that the servants of his father had dug in the days of Abraham his father. They filled them with earth. ¹⁶ And Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go away from us, for you have become much too powerful for us." ¹⁷ So Isaac departed from there and camped in the valley of Gerar, and settled there. ¹⁸ And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after the death of Abraham. And he gave* to them _⌊the same names_⌋* which his father had given* them. ¹⁹ And when the servants of Isaac dug in the valley, they found a well of fresh water there. ²⁰ Then the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with the herdsmen of Isaac, saying, "The water is ours." And he called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him. ²¹ And they dug another well, and they quarreled over it also. And he called its name Sitnah. ²² Then he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. And he called its name Rehoboth, and said, "Now Yahweh has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land." ²³ And from there he went up to Beersheba. ²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham." ²⁵ And he built an altar there and called on the name of Yahweh. And he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Isaac dug a well there. ²⁶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar with Ahuzzath his friend and Phicol his army commander. ²⁷ And Isaac said to them, "Why have you come to me? You hate me and sent me away from you." ²⁸ And they said, "We see clearly that Yahweh has been with you, so we thought* let there be an oath between us—between us and you—and let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant with you ²⁹ that you may not do us harm just as we have not touched you, but have only done good to you and sent you away in peace. You are now blessed by Yahweh." ³⁰ So he made a meal for them, and they ate and drank. ³¹ And they arose early in the morning and each one swore to the other,* and Isaac sent them away. And they left him in peace. ³² And it happened that on that same day the servants of Isaac came and told him about the well that they had dug. And they said, "We have found water!" ³³ And he called it Sheba. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day. ³⁴ And when Esau was forty years old he took as wife Judith, daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, daughter of Elon the Hittite. ³⁵ And _⌊they made life bitter_⌋* for Isaac and Rebekah.

¹⁰ And there was a famine in the land. And Abram went down to Egypt to dwell as an alien there, for the famine was severe in the land.

¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the land of the Negev, and he settled between Kadesh and Shur. And he dwelled as an alien in Gerar. ² And Abraham said about Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

²² And it happened that at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, "God is with you, in all that you do. ²³ So now, swear to me here by God that you will not deal with me falsely, or with my descendants, or my posterity. According to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall pledge to do with me and with the land where you have dwelled as an alien." ²⁴ And Abraham said, "I swear." ²⁵ Then Abraham complained to Abimelech on account of the well of water that servants of Abimelech had seized. ²⁶ And Abimelech said, "I do not know who did this thing, neither did you tell me, nor have I heard of it except for today." ²⁷ And Abraham took sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelech. And the two of them _⌊made_⌋* a covenant. ²⁸ Then Abraham set off seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. ²⁹ And Abimelech said to Abraham, "What is the meaning of these seven ewe-lambs that you have set off by themselves?" ³⁰ And he said, "You shall take the seven ewe-lambs from my hand _⌊as proof on my behalf_⌋* that I dug this well." ³¹ Therefore that place is called Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath. ³² And they _⌊made_⌋* a covenant at Beersheba. And Abimelech, and Phicol his army commander stood and returned to the land of the Philistines.

¹¹ And it happened that after the death of Abraham God blessed Isaac his son, and Isaac settled at Beer-Lahai-Roi.

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you.

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless

¹ And Yahweh appeared to him* by the oaks of Mamre. And he was sitting in the doorway of the tent at the heat of the day.

¹⁰ And he* said, "I will certainly return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋,* and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him. ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, _⌊advanced in age_⌋;* _⌊the way of women_⌋* had ceased to be for Sarah. ¹² So* Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?" ¹³ Then Yahweh said to Abraham, "What is this that Sarah laughed, saying, 'Is it indeed true that I will bear a child, now that I have grown old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son." ¹⁵ But Sarah denied it, saying, "I did not laugh," because she was afraid. He* said, "No, but you did laugh." ¹⁶ Then the men set out from there, and they looked down upon Sodom. And Abraham went with them _⌊to send them on their way_⌋.* ¹⁷ Then Yahweh said, "Shall I conceal from Abraham what I am going to do? ¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed on account of him. ¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him." ²⁰ Then Yahweh said, "Because the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very _⌊serious_⌋,*

³ Trust Yahweh and do good. Abide in the land and feed on faithfulness.*

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you. ² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever.

¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the land of the Negev, and he settled between Kadesh and Shur. And he dwelled as an alien in Gerar.

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares Yahweh, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child, ¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies. ¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that same year a hundredfold, and Yahweh blessed him.

¹⁴ And he possessed sheep and cattle and many servants, so that the Philistines envied him.

¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you."

² And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

²¹ And Yahweh was with Joseph, and showed loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the prison.

⁸ I* will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go. I will advise you with my eye upon you.

¹ Of David.*
Do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of doers of wickedness. ² For like the grass they will dry up quickly, and like green vegetation they will wither. ³ Trust Yahweh and do good. Abide in the land and feed on faithfulness.* ⁴ Take pleasure in Yahweh as well, and he will give to you the requests of your heart. ⁵ _⌊Commit to_⌋* Yahweh your way; Trust also on him and he will act. ⁶ Then he will bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your justice like the noonday.

¹² Hear my prayer, O Yahweh, and listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my tears. For I am an alien* with you, a sojourner like all my ancestors.*

⁹ that he made with Abraham, and by his oath swore to Isaac.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

⁵ You must not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your _⌊offspring_⌋* from the east, and I will gather you from the west.

²⁰ You will show faithfulness to Jacob, and loyal love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our ancestors* from the days of old.

⁹ And the things which you have learned and received and heard about and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

¹⁷ In the same way God, because he* wanted to show even more to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his resolve, guaranteed it with an oath,

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise.

¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth. ¹⁴ For those who say such things make clear that they are seeking a homeland. ¹⁵ And if they remember* that land from which they went out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

⁴ "As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you. ⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed on account of him.

¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'"

¹⁷ May his name endure forever. May his name increase _⌊as long as the sun shines_⌋,* and let them be blessed in him. Let all nations call him blessed.

²⁵ You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed.'*

⁸ And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the good news in advance to Abraham: "In you all the nations* will be blessed."*

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and to his descendant the promises were spoken. It does not say, "and to descendants," as concerning many, but as concerning one, "and to your descendant,"* who is Christ.

² For by this the people of old were approved.

⁴ And Abram went out as Yahweh had told him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram _⌊was seventy-five years old_⌋* when he went out from Haran.

²³ And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all who were born of his house, and all those acquired by his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the same day that God spoke with him.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares Yahweh, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child,

¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

¹ Praise Yah!* Blessed is the man who fears Yahweh; he takes great delight in his commands. ² His _⌊descendants_⌋* will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

¹ A song of ascents.*
Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways. ² You will indeed eat of the labor of your hands; you will be happy and it will be well with you. ³ Your wife will be like a fruitful vine _⌊within_⌋* your house. Your children* will be like olive shoots about your table. ⁴ Look, for thus shall a man be blessed _⌊who fears Yahweh_⌋.* ⁵ May Yahweh bless you from Zion, that you may see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life, ⁶ and that you may see your children's children. May peace be upon Israel.

¹⁹ Therefore whoever abolishes one of the least of these commandments and teaches people to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever keeps them and teaches them, this person will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

⁵⁸ So then, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, because you* know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

⁸ By faith Abraham, when he* was called, obeyed to go out to a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance, and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he* offered up his son Isaac on the altar?

¹³ Please say you are my sister so that it will go well for me on your account. _⌊Then I will live_⌋* on account of you."

² And Abraham said about Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

⁵ Did not he himself say to me, 'She is my sister'? And she herself said, 'He is my brother.' With integrity of my heart and with cleanness of my hands I did this."

¹² _⌊Besides_⌋,* she is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother. And she became my wife. ¹³ And it happened that as God caused me to wander from the house of my father I said to her, 'This is your loyal kindness that you must do for me at every place where we come: say concerning me, "He is my brother." '"

¹⁶ Now the girl was very pleasing in appearance. She was a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up.

²⁵ The fear of a person will lay a snare, but he who trusts in Yahweh will be secure.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul, but instead be afraid of the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for her;

⁹ Do not lie to one another, because you* have taken off the old man together with his deeds,

²⁸ "Through the window she looked down; the mother of Sisera cried out through the lattice, 'Why is his chariot delayed in coming? Why do the hoof beats* of his chariot tarry?'

¹⁸ May your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife* of your youth. ¹⁹ She is a deer of love and a doe of grace; may her breasts satisfy you _⌊always_⌋;* by her love may you be intoxicated continually.

⁶ For at the window of my house, through my lattice, I looked down.

⁹ Enjoy life with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which he gives you under the sun, because this is your lot in life and in the toil with which you toil under the sun.

⁹ My beloved is like a gazelle or _⌊a young stag_⌋.* Look! _⌊He is_⌋* standing behind our wall, gazing _⌊through_⌋* the window, looking _⌊through_⌋* the lattice.

⁵ For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons marry you, and as is the joy of the bridegroom over the bride, so shall your God rejoice over you.

¹⁸ Then Pharaoh called for Abram and said, "What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹ Why did you say 'She is my sister,' so that I took her to myself as a wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go."

⁹ And Abimelech called for Abraham and said to him, "What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you that you brought upon me and upon my kingdom a great sin? You have done things to me that should not be done." ¹⁰ And Abimelech said to Abraham, "_⌊What were you thinking_⌋* that you did this thing?"

⁶ Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes,* I know that in the integrity of your heart you did this, and I also _⌊kept you from sinning_⌋* against me. Therefore, I did not allow you to touch her.

¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones, nor harm my prophets."

²⁹ Thus, he who goes to the wife of his neighbor, any who touches her shall not go unpunished.

⁸ For thus said Yahweh of hosts, after glory* he sent me against the nations plundering you: Truly, the one touching you is touching the apple* of his eye.

¹ Now Abraham was old, _⌊advanced in age_⌋,* and Yahweh had blessed Abraham in everything.

³⁵ Now Yahweh has blessed my master exceedingly, and he has become great. He has given to him sheep and cattle, silver and gold, male slaves and female slaves, and camels and donkeys.

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

²⁹ that you may not do us harm just as we have not touched you, but have only done good to you and sent you away in peace. You are now blessed by Yahweh."

³⁰ For you had little before me, and it has increased abundantly. And Yahweh has blessed you _⌊wherever I turned_⌋.* So then, when shall I provide for my own family also?"

¹² So* Yahweh blessed Job's latter days more than his beginning. _⌊Thus he had_⌋* fourteen thousand sheep and goats and six thousand camels and a thousand pair of oxen and a thousand female donkeys.

⁶ The earth has yielded its produce. God, our God, will bless us.

¹⁶ May there be an abundance of grain in the land even on the top of the mountains. May his crop* sway like the trees of Lebanon, and may those from the city blossom like the grass of the earth.

⁶ Sow your seed in the morning, and do not let your hands rest in the evening, for you do not know what will prosper— whether this or that, or whether both of them alike will succeed.

¹² 'For there will be a sowing of peace; the vine will give its fruit, and the soil will give its produce, and the heavens will give their dew. And I will cause the remnant of this people to inherit all these things.

⁸ But other seed fell on the good soil and produced grain,* this one a hundred times as much and this one sixty and this one thirty.

²³ But what was sown on the good soil—this is the one who hears the word and understands it,* who indeed bears fruit and produces, this one a hundred times as much, and this one sixty, and this one thirty."

⁸ And other seed fell on the good soil, and produced grain,* coming up and increasing, and it bore a crop*—one thirty and one sixty and one a hundred times as much.*

⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing it to grow.

¹⁰ Now the one who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed, and will cause the harvest of your righteousness to grow, ¹¹ being made rich in every way for all generosity, which is producing through us thanksgiving to God,

⁷ Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked, for whatever a person sows, this he will also reap, ⁸ because the one who sows to his own flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

³ Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

²² The blessing of Yahweh makes one rich, and he does not increase sorrow with it.

¹⁶ And he dealt well with Abram on account of her, and he had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

² Now Abram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

¹¹ And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

⁹ So Saul was watching* David with suspicion from that day onward.

³ Then* his livestock came to be seven thousand sheep and goats and three thousand camels and five hundred pairs* of oxen and five hundred female donkeys, and he had very many slaves, and that man was greater than all the people of the east.

² For vexation will slay the fool, and jealousy will kill the simple.

¹⁰ The wicked* sees it and is vexed. He gnashes his teeth and _⌊becomes weak_⌋.* The desire of the wicked* perishes.

¹³ that our granaries may be full, providing produce of all kinds,* that our sheep may produce by the thousands, by the tens of thousands in our open fields, ¹⁴ that our cattle may be pregnant; that there be no breach in our walls, and no going out in exile, and no outcry in our plazas.

⁴ Cruel is wrath and overwhelming is anger, but who will stand before jealousy?

⁴ I also realized that all of the toil and all of the skillful work that is done—it is envy between one man and _⌊another_⌋.* This also is vanity and chasing wind!

²⁵ Then Abraham complained to Abimelech on account of the well of water that servants of Abimelech had seized.

³⁰ And he said, "You shall take the seven ewe-lambs from my hand _⌊as proof on my behalf_⌋* that I dug this well."

⁹ And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* are greater and more numerous than us.

³¹ Therefore that place is called Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath.

³⁸ and Nebo, Baal Meon (their names* were changed), and Sibmah, and _⌊they renamed_⌋* the cities that they rebuilt.

⁴ Those who hurry after* another god increase their sorrows. I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood, nor take up their names on my lips.

¹⁷ I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they will no longer be mentioned by their name.

² _⌊And then_⌋,* on that day,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, 'I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and also the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness I will banish from the land.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, "If you had known the gift of God and who it is who says to you, 'Give me water* to drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." ¹¹ The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket and the well is deep! From where then do you get this living water?

³⁸ the one who believes in me.* Just as the scripture said, 'Out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.'"*

³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples.

When I call, answer me, O God of my righteousness.* In trouble _⌊deliver me_⌋.* Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

¹⁹ So he brought me out to a spacious place. He delivered me because he delighted in me.

⁵ Out of my distress I called to Yah.* Yah answered me, setting me in a broad place.

¹ So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

¹ All the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and they gathered as one body* to Yahweh at Mizpah.

¹ After these things the word of Yahweh came* to Abram in a vision, saying: "Do not be afraid, Abram; I am your shield, and your reward shall be very great."

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you.

¹⁹ And Abraham returned to his servants, and they got up and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived in Beersheba.

¹² And he said, "O Yahweh, God of my master Abraham, please grant me success today and show loyal love to my master Abraham.

² And Yahweh appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land which I will show to you. ³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father. ⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.

⁵ and he said to them, "Look, I see the face of your father, that _⌊it is not like it has been toward me in the past_⌋.* But the God of my father is with me.

⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

Yahweh is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the refuge of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me to eat my flesh— my adversaries and my enemies who drew near to me— they themselves stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war arise against me, even in this I will remain confident.

God is our refuge and strength, a very sufficient help in troubles. ² Therefore we will not fear though the earth change, and though the mountains totter into the _⌊midst_⌋* of the sea,

² Look! God is my salvation; I will trust, and I will not be afraid, for my strength and might is Yah, Yahweh; and he has become salvation for me."

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹³ For I, Yahweh your God, am grasping your right hand; _⌊it is I who say_⌋* to you, "You must not fear; I myself, I will help you. ¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel. ¹⁵ Look! I will make you into a new sharp threshing sledge, _⌊with_⌋* sharp edges. You shall thresh and crush the mountains, and you shall make the hills like chaff.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.* ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

² Thus says Yahweh, who made you, and who formed you in* the womb and will help you: you must not fear, my servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

⁷ Listen to me, you who know righteousness, people who have my teaching in their heart; you must not fear the reproach of men, or be terrified because of their abuse.

¹² "I, I am he who comforts you; who are you that* you are afraid of man? He dies! And of the son of humankind? He is _⌊sacrificed_⌋* as grass!

³² "I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob"?* He is not the God of the dead, but of the living!"

³² "Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father is well pleased to give you the kingdom.

³² 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob!'* So Moses began trembling and* did not dare to look at it.*

⁶ So then, we can say with confidence,
"The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.* What will man do to me?"*

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to Yahweh, and he took from all the clean animals and from all the clean birds, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him. ⁸ And he moved on from there to the hill country, east of Bethel. And he pitched his tent at Bethel on the west, and at Ai on the east. And he built an altar there to Yahweh. And he called on the name of Yahweh.

⁴ to the place where he had made an altar at the beginning. And Abram called on the name of Yahweh there.

¹⁸ So* Abram pitched his tent, and he came and settled at the oaks of Mamre, which were at Hebron. And there he built an altar to Yahweh.

⁹ And they came to the place that God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood. Then he bound Isaac his son and placed him on the altar atop the wood.

²⁰ And there he erected an altar and called it "El Elohe Israel."*

¹ And God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make an altar to the God who appeared to you when you fled from before Esau your brother."

¹⁵ And Moses built an altar, and he called its name Yahweh Is My Banner.

¹⁷ I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and proclaim the name of Yahweh.

³ And God came to Abimelech in a dream at night. And he said to him, "Look, you are a dead man on account of the woman you have taken. For she is _⌊a married woman_⌋."*

¹⁶ And Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go away from us, for you have become much too powerful for us."

⁷ Jephthah said to the elders, "Did you not shun me and drive me out from the house of my father? Why do you come to me now when you have trouble?"

⁹ And the patriarchs, because they* were jealous of Joseph, sold him* into Egypt. And God was with him,

¹⁴ So Joseph sent and* summoned his father Jacob and all his* relatives, seventy-five persons in all.

²⁷ But the one who was doing wrong to his* neighbor pushed him aside, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge over us?

³⁵ This Moses whom they had repudiated, saying, 'Who appointed you a ruler and a judge?'*—this man God sent as both ruler and redeemer with _⌊the help_⌋* of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

⁹ Behold, I am causing those of the synagogue of Satan, the ones who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them _⌊come_⌋* and kneel down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

²² And it happened that at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, "God is with you, in all that you do. ²³ So now, swear to me here by God that you will not deal with me falsely, or with my descendants, or my posterity. According to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall pledge to do with me and with the land where you have dwelled as an alien."

³ that I may make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites in whose midst I am dwelling,

⁴¹ Then you shall be released from my oath, when you come to my family. And if they will not give a woman to you, then you will be released from my oath.'

⁴⁹ and Mizpah,* because he said, "Yahweh watch between me and you when _⌊we are out of sight of each other_⌋.* ⁵⁰ If you mistreat my daughters, and if you take wives besides my daughters, when there is no man with us, see—God is a witness between me and you." ⁵¹ And Laban said to Jacob, "See, this pile of stones, and see the pillar that I have set up between me and you. ⁵² This pile of stones is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass beyond this pile of stones to you, and that you will not pass beyond this pile of stones and this pillar to me intending harm. ⁵³ May the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father* judge between us." Then Jacob swore by the Fear of his father Isaac.

⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of Yahweh was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

⁷ Then Yahweh said to Joshua, "This day I will begin exalting you _⌊in the sight_⌋* of all Israel, that they may know that I was with Moses, and I will be with you.

¹ And Solomon the son of David strengthened himself concerning his kingdom, and Yahweh his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.

¹⁴ Thus says Yahweh: "The acquisition of Egypt and the merchandise of Cush and the Sabeans, tall men, shall pass over to you; they shall be yours, and they shall walk behind you. They shall pass over in chains, and they shall bow down to you; they will pray to you: 'Surely God is with you, and there is no other. Besides him there is no God.'"

¹⁴ And the children of those who oppressed you shall come to you bending low, and all those who treated you disrespectfully shall bow down at the soles of your feet. And they shall call you the city of Yahweh, Zion of the holy one of Israel.

⁶ But* you shall be called the priests of Yahweh, _⌊you will be called_⌋* servers of our God. You shall eat the wealth of the nations, and you shall boast in their riches.

⁹ And their descendants* will be known among the nations, and their offspring in the midst of the peoples. All those who see them shall recognize them, that they are descendants* whom Yahweh has blessed.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

¹⁶ For people swear by what is greater than themselves, and the oath for confirmation is the end of all dispute for them.

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."*

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

²² And it happened that at that time, Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, said to Abraham, "God is with you, in all that you do.

¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

³¹ And he said, "Come, O blessed one of Yahweh. Why do you stand outside? Now I have prepared the house and a place for the camels."

¹¹ Then Abimelech instructed all the people, saying, "The one who touches this man or his wife shall certainly die." ¹² And Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that same year a hundredfold, and Yahweh blessed him.

¹⁴ And he possessed sheep and cattle and many servants, so that the Philistines envied him. ¹⁵ And the Philistines stopped up all the wells that the servants of his father had dug in the days of Abraham his father. They filled them with earth.

¹⁵ May you be blessed by Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

³ But _⌊he urged them strongly_⌋,* and they turned aside with him and came into his house. And he made a meal for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

⁸ And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day Isaac was weaned.

⁵⁴ And Jacob sacrificed a sacrifice on the hill, and he called his kinsmen to eat the meal.* And they ate the meal* and spent the night on the hill.

¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people.

¹⁴ Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.

⁹ Be hospitable to one another without complaining.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,

² And he said, "Behold, my lords, please turn aside into the house of your servant and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you can rise early and go on your way." And they said, "No, but we will spend the night in the square."

¹⁴ Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder. And he sent her away with the child, and she went, wandering about in the wilderness, in Beersheba.

²³ So now, swear to me here by God that you will not deal with me falsely, or with my descendants, or my posterity. According to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall pledge to do with me and with the land where you have dwelled as an alien."

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. And he took two of his servants with him, and Isaac his son. And he chopped wood for a burnt offering. And he got up and went to the place which God had told him.

³³ Then Jacob said, "Swear to me _⌊first_⌋."* And he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.

⁴⁴ So now, come, let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between me and you."

⁵⁵ * And Laban arose early in the morning and kissed his grandsons* and his daughters, and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his homeland.

²⁴ Now the men of Israel were hard pressed on that day, because Saul had made the army take an oath, saying, "Cursed be the man who eats any food until evening, when I will have avenged myself on my enemies!" So none of the army tasted any food.

³ Then David _⌊took an oath_⌋* again and said, "Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he thought, 'Do not let Jonathan know this, lest he worry.' But _⌊as Yahweh lives_⌋* and _⌊as your soul lives_⌋,* surely there is merely a step between me and death!"

¹⁶ So Jonathan _⌊made a covenant_⌋* with the house of David, saying, "May Yahweh _⌊call the enemies of David to account_⌋."* ¹⁷ And Jonathan again made David swear an oath, because he loved him; for with the love of his soul he loved him.

¹⁵ So David asked him, "Will you take me down to this band of raiders?" He said, "Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and that you will not deliver me into my master's hand! Then I will take you down to this band."

²⁵ And he built an altar there and called on the name of Yahweh. And he pitched his tent there, and the servants of Isaac dug a well there.

⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find.

⁴ A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent enriches.

⁴ The soul* of the lazy craves, but there is nothing, but the person of diligence is richly supplied.

⁷ "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened for you.

²⁸ And they said, "We see clearly that Yahweh has been with you, so we thought* let there be an oath between us—between us and you—and let us _⌊make_⌋* a covenant with you

⁹ then Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, son of Abraham, sister of Nebaioth, as a wife, in addition to the wives he had.

² Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah, daughter of Elon, the Hittite, and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite,

⁵ and Oholibamah bore Jeush and Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

¹³ Now these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau.

¹⁶ and you take from their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods, and they cause your sons to prostitute themselves after their gods.

² But because of sexual immorality, let each man have* his own wife and let each woman have her own husband.

¹⁶ that no one be a sexually immoral or totally worldly person like Esau, who for one meal traded his own birthright.

² Then* the sons of God saw the daughters of humankind, that they were beautiful. And they took for themselves wives from all that they chose.

⁴⁶ Then Rebekah said to Isaac, "I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.* If Jacob takes a wife from Hittite women* like these, from the _⌊native women_⌋,* _⌊what am I living for_⌋?"*

⁸ Then Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Isaac his father,
