¹ But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. ² Now early in the morning he came again to the temple courts.* And all the people were coming,* and he sat down and* began to teach* them. ³ Now the scribes and the Pharisees brought to him a woman* caught in adultery. And standing her in their midst, ⁴ they said to him, testing him,* "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery! ⁵ Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" ⁶ (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion* to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write* with his* finger on the ground, taking no notice.* ⁷ And when they persisted in asking him, straightening up he said* to them, "The one of you without sin, let him throw the first stone at her!" ⁸ And bending down again, he wrote on the ground. ⁹ Now when they* heard it,* being convicted by their conscience,* they began to depart,* one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus* was left alone—and the woman who was in their midst. ¹⁰ So Jesus, straightening up and seeing no one except the woman,* said to her, "Where are those accusers of yours?* Does no one condemn you?" ¹¹ And she said, "No one, Lord." So Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and* sin no more."* ¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." ¹³ So the Pharisees said to him, "You testify concerning yourself! Your testimony is not true." ¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I testify concerning myself, my testimony is true, because I know where I have come from and where I am going. But you do not know where I have come from or where I am going. ¹⁵ You judge according to externals; I do not judge anyone. ¹⁶ But even if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me. ¹⁷ And even in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.* ¹⁸ I am the one who testifies concerning myself, and the Father who sent me testifies concerning me." ¹⁹ So they were saying to him, "Where is your father?" Jesus replied, "You know neither me nor my Father! If you had known me, you would have known my Father also." ²⁰ He spoke these words by the treasury while* teaching in the temple courts,* and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come. ²¹ So he said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me and will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come!" ²² Then the Jews began to say,* "Perhaps he will kill himself, because he is saying, 'Where I am going you cannot come.'" ²³ And he said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world. ²⁴ Thus I said to you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins." ²⁵ So they began to say to him,* "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "_⌊What_⌋* I have been saying to you from the beginning. ²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but the one who sent me is true, and the things which I heard from him, these things I say to the world." ²⁷ (They did not know that he was speaking to them about the Father.) ²⁸ Then Jesus said,* "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will recognize that I am he, and I do nothing from myself, but just as the Father taught me, I say these things. ²⁹ And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do the things that are pleasing to him." ³⁰ While* he was saying these things, many believed in him. ³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples, ³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." ³³ They replied to him, "We are descendants of Abraham and have not been enslaved to anyone at any time. How do you say, 'You will become free'?" ³⁴ Jesus replied to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. ³⁵ And the slave does not remain in the household _⌊forever_⌋;* the son remains _⌊forever_⌋.* ³⁶ So if the son sets you free, you will be truly free. ³⁷ I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word makes no progress among you. ³⁸ I speak the things that I have seen with the Father; so also you do the things that you have heard from the Father." ³⁹ They answered and said to him, "Abraham is our father!" Jesus said to them, "If you are children of Abraham, do the deeds of Abraham! ⁴⁰ But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who spoke to you the truth which I heard from God. This Abraham did not do. ⁴¹ You are doing the deeds of your father!"
They said* to him, "We were not born from sexual immorality! We have one father, God!" ⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I have come forth from God and have come. For I have not come from myself, but that one sent me. ⁴³ _⌊Why_⌋* do you not understand my way of speaking? Because you are not able to listen to my message. ⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father! That one was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own nature,* because he is a liar and the father _⌊of lies_⌋.* ⁴⁵ But because I am telling the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Who among you convicts me concerning sin? If I am telling the truth, _⌊why_⌋* do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ The one who is from God listens to the words of God. Because of this you do not listen—because you are not of God." ⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said to him, "Do we not correctly say that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" ⁴⁹ Jesus replied, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me! ⁵⁰ But I do not seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges! ⁵¹ Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never experience death _⌊forever_⌋."* ⁵² The Jews* said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham and the prophets died, and you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death _⌊forever_⌋.'* ⁵³ You are not greater than our father Abraham who died, are you?* And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself to be?" ⁵⁴ Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you say, 'He is our God.' ⁵⁵ And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you! But I know him and I keep his word. ⁵⁶ Abraham your father rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it* and was glad." ⁵⁷ So the Jews said to him, "_⌊You are_⌋* not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" ⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am!" ⁵⁹ Then they picked up stones in order to throw them* at him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple courts.*

¹ And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

³ And as* he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

³⁷ Now as* he was drawing near by this time to the descent from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began rejoicing to praise God with a loud voice for all the miracles that they had seen,

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah, the son of Amon, the king of Judah, even up to this day, these twenty-three years* the word of Yahweh has come to me, and _⌊I have spoken to you over and over again_⌋,* but you have not listened.

⁴ And I sent to you all my servants the prophets, _⌊sending over and over again_⌋,* _⌊saying_⌋,* "Please, you must not do this detestable thing that I hate."

¹ Now when he* saw the crowds, he went up the mountain and after he* sat down, his disciples approached him. ² And opening his mouth he began to teach them, saying,

⁵⁵ At that time Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out with swords and clubs, as against a robber, to arrest me? Every day in the temple courts* I sat teaching, and you did not arrest me!

²⁰ And he rolled up the scroll and* gave it* back to the attendant and* sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were looking intently at him.

³ And he got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and* asked him to put out from the land a little. And he sat down and* began to teach* the crowds from the boat.

³⁷ So throughout the days he was teaching in the temple courts,* and throughout the nights he was going out and* spending the night on the hill that is called the Mount of Olives.

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is that I do the will of the one who sent me and complete his work.

²⁰ He spoke these words by the treasury while* teaching in the temple courts,* and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.

¹⁰ " 'As for* a man who commits adultery with a man's wife, who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, both the man who commits adultery and the woman who commits adultery shall surely be put to death.

²¹ and then they shall bring out the young woman to the doorway of the house of her father, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die, because she did a disgraceful thing in Israel _⌊by playing the harlot_⌋* in the house of her father, and so you shall purge the evil from your midst. ²² "If a man is found lying _⌊with a married woman_⌋,* then they shall both die; _⌊both of them_⌋,* the man who lay with the woman and the woman also, so you shall purge the evil from Israel. ²³ "If it happens that a young woman, a virgin, is engaged to a man, and a man finds her in the town and lies with her, ²⁴ then you shall bring out _⌊both of them_⌋* to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them with stones so that they shall die, the young woman because she did not cry out in the town, and the man because* he violated his neighbor's wife; and so you shall purge the evil from your midst.

³⁸ And I will judge you with the judgment of women committing adultery and shedding blood, and I will give you the blood of rage and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will give you into their hand, and they will demolish your mound, and they will break down your high places, and they will strip you of your clothes, and they will take _⌊your beautiful jewelry_⌋,* and they will leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ And they will bring up against you a crowd, and they will stone you with stones,* and they will cut you to pieces with their swords.

⁴⁷ And an assembly must stone them with stones,* and they must cut them down. With their swords they shall kill their sons and their daughters, and with fire they shall burn their houses.

¹⁷ "Do not think that I have come to destroy the law or the prophets. I have not come to destroy them but to fulfill them.

⁶ So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate." ⁷ They said to him, "Why then did Moses command us* to give a document—a certificate of divorce—and to divorce her?" ⁸ He said to them, "Moses, with reference to your hardness of heart, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not like this.

¹⁶ And they sent their disciples to him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and _⌊you do not care what anyone thinks_⌋,* _⌊because you do not regard the opinion of people_⌋.* ¹⁷ Therefore tell us what you think. Is it permitted to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" ¹⁸ But because he* knew their maliciousness, Jesus said, "Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

⁹ Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bowed down; he crouched like a lion and as a lioness. Who shall rouse him?

²² But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice,

¹² Those who seek my life lay snares as well, and those intent on my harm speak threats. They also plot deceit all day. ¹³ But as for me, like the deaf I cannot hear, and I am like the mute who cannot open his mouth. ¹⁴ And so I am like a man who hears not, and in whose mouth there are no retorts.

I said, "I will guard my ways _⌊that I may not sin_⌋* with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

¹⁷ Grabbing onto the ears of a dog passing by is one who meddles in a quarrel that is not his own.

⁷ a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak;

¹³ O Yahweh, the hope of Israel, all those who forsake you will be put to shame, and those who turn aside from you in the earth will be recorded, for they have forsaken the fountain of living water, Yahweh.

⁵ _⌊Immediately_⌋* _⌊human fingers_⌋* appeared and they wrote _⌊opposite_⌋* the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the palace of the king, and the king was watching* the palm of the hand that was writing.

¹⁰ They hate the one who reproves in the gate and they abhor the one who speaks honestly.

¹³ Therefore, whoever has insight will keep silent in that time, for it is a time of evil.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

²³ But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came up and* asked him, saying, "Send her away, because she is crying out after us!"

¹ And when* the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test him,* they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

³ And Pharisees came up to him in order to* test him, and asked* if it was permitted for a man to divorce his wife for any cause.

¹⁸ But because he* knew their maliciousness, Jesus said, "Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

³⁵ And one of them, a legal expert, put a question to him* to test him:

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I put you under oath by the living God, that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God!"

¹¹ And the Pharisees came and began to argue with him, demanding from him a sign from heaven in order to* test him.

² And they asked* him if it was permitted for a man to divorce his* wife, in order to* test him.

¹⁵ But because he* knew their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius so that I can look at it!"*

²⁵ And behold, a certain legal expert stood up to test him, saying, "Teacher, what must I do so that I will inherit eternal life?"

¹⁶ And others, in order to* test him,* were demanding from him a sign from heaven.

⁵³ And when* he departed from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly hostile, and to question him closely about many things, ⁵⁴ plotting to catch him with reference to something _⌊he might say_⌋.*

²⁰ And they watched him* closely and* sent spies who pretended they were upright, in order that they could catch him in a statement, so that they could hand him over to the authority and the jurisdiction of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and do not _⌊show partiality_⌋,* but teach the way of God in truth. ²² Is it permitted for us to pay taxes* to Caesar or not?" ²³ But seeing through their craftiness, he said to them,

⁹ nor put Christ to the test, as some of them tested him, and were destroyed by snakes,

⁶ _⌊On the evidence of_⌋* two or three witnesses _⌊the person shall be put to death_⌋.* The person* shall not be put to death by the mouth of one witness. ⁷ The hand of the witnesses shall be first against the person* to kill the person,* and afterward the hands* of all the people, and so you shall purge the evil from your midst.

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to recite my statutes and _⌊mention my covenant with your mouth_⌋,* ¹⁷ while you yourself hate discipline, and cast my words behind you? ¹⁸ When you see a thief, then you are pleased with him, and your association is with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth free rein for evil, and you harness your tongue to deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your mother's son.

¹⁸ There is one who speaks rashly, like the thrust of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly lest you become like him—even you. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, or else he will be wise in his own eyes.

²⁹ "Is not my word like fire?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and like a blacksmith's hammer that breaks a rock into pieces?

¹ "Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. ² For by what judgment you judge, you will be judged, and by what measure you measure out, it will be measured out to you. ³ And why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the beam of wood in your own eye? ⁴ Or how will you say to your brother, 'Allow me to remove the speck from your eye,' and behold, the beam of wood is in your own eye? ⁵ Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye!

²⁵ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence! ²⁶ Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the dish,* so that the outside of it may become clean also. ²⁷ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and of everything unclean! ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴⁶ The officers replied, "Never has a man spoken like this!"

¹ Therefore you are without excuse, O man, every one of you who passes judgment. For in that which you pass judgment on someone else, you condemn yourself, for you who are passing judgment are doing the same things. ² Now we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who do such things. ³ But do you think this, O man who passes judgment on those who do such things, and who does the same things, that you will escape the judgment of God?

²¹ Therefore, the one who teaches someone else, do you not teach yourself? The one who preaches not to steal, do you steal? ²² The one who says not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one who abhors idols, do you rob temples? ²³ Who boast in the law, by the transgression of the law you dishonor God!* ²⁴ For just as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."* ²⁵ For circumcision is of value if you do the law, but if you should be a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.

²⁴ But if all prophesy, and some unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is judged by all, ²⁵ the secret things of his heart become evident, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God, proclaiming, "God is truly among you!"

⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how it is necessary for you to answer each one.

¹² For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, both joints and marrow, and able to judge the reflections and thoughts of the heart. ¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

¹⁶ and he had in his right hand seven stars, and a sharp double-edged sword coming out of his mouth, and his face was like the sun shining in its strength.

¹⁶ Therefore repent! But if you do not, I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war with them with the sword from my mouth.

¹⁵ And out of his mouth came a sharp sword, so that with it he could strike the nations. And he will shepherd them with an iron rod,* and he stomps the winepress of the wine of the furious wrath of God, the All-Powerful.

²¹ Then each said to his brother, "Surely we are guilty on account of our brother when we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded for mercy to us and we would not listen. Therefore this trouble has come to us." ²² Then Reuben answered them, saying, "Did I not say to you, do not sin against the boy? But you did not listen, and now, behold, his blood has been sought."

⁴⁴ Then the king said to Shimei, "You know all the evil which your heart knows, what you did to David my father. Now Yahweh will return the evil on your head,

¹⁸ She said to Elijah, "_⌊What do you have against me_⌋,* O man of God, that you have come to me to make known my guilt and to cause my son to die?"

¹² He is frustrating the devices of the crafty, and their hands do not achieve success. ¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.

⁵ that the rejoicing of the wicked is _⌊short_⌋,* and the joy of the godless _⌊lasts only a moment_⌋?*

²⁷ The heavens will reveal his guilt, and the earth will rise up against him.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen in the pit that they made; their foot is caught in the net that they hid. ¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his hands. Higgaion* Selah

¹⁴ Let them be shamed and abashed altogether who seek to take away my life.* Let them be repulsed and humiliated who desire my harm.

²¹ These things you have done, and I have been silent; You imagined that I was just like you. I will rebuke you and present an argument before your eyes.

¹³ Let them be ashamed; let them perish who are _⌊my adversaries_⌋.* Let them wrap themselves with scorn and disgrace who seek my harm.

²² For your heart knows that you also have cursed others many times.

¹⁴ And King Herod heard it,* because his name had become known. And they were saying, "John, the one who baptizes, has been raised from the dead, and because of this these miraculous powers are at work in him." ¹⁵ But others were saying, "He is Elijah," and others were saying, "He is a prophet like one of the prophets." ¹⁶ But when* Herod heard it,* he said, "John whom I beheaded—this one has been raised!"

¹ During _⌊this time_⌋* when* a crowd of many thousands had gathered together, so that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware for yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² But nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, and secret that will not be made known. ³ Therefore everything that you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what _⌊you have whispered_⌋* in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

¹⁷ And when* he said these things, all those who opposed him were humiliated, and the whole crowd was rejoicing at all the splendid things that were being done by him.

¹⁰ So Jesus, straightening up and seeing no one except the woman,* said to her, "Where are those accusers of yours?* Does no one condemn you?"

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world! The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

¹⁵ who show the work of the law written on their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts one after another accusing or even defending them

²² The one who says not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one who abhors idols, do you rob temples?

²⁰ that* if our heart condemns us, that God is greater than our heart and knows all things.

¹¹ Look! All those who are angry with you shall be ashamed and humiliated; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing and shall become lost. ¹² You shall seek them, but* you shall not find them; _⌊your opponents_⌋* shall be like nothing, and the men of your war like nothing.

¹⁸ "You shall appoint judges and officials for you in all your _⌊towns_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you throughout your tribes, and you shall render for the people _⌊righteous judgments_⌋.*

⁹ then you shall go to the priests and the Levites and to the judge who will be in office in those days, and you shall enquire, and they shall announce to you _⌊the verdict_⌋.*

³¹ "Indeed, does anyone say to God, 'I have endured chastisement; I will not act corruptly again;

¹³ He who conceals his transgression will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes will obtain mercy.

¹⁶ Wash! Make yourselves clean! Remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes! Cease to do evil! ¹⁷ Learn to do good! Seek justice! Rescue the oppressed! Defend the orphan! Plead for the widow! ¹⁸ "Come now, and let us argue," says Yahweh. "Even though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white like snow; even though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

⁶ Seek Yahweh _⌊while he lets himself be found_⌋;* call him _⌊while he is_⌋* near.

³⁰ "Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one* according to his ways," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. "Repent* and turn around from all of your transgression, and it will not be as a stumbling block of iniquity to you. ³¹ Throw _⌊away from yourselves_⌋* all of your transgressions that you committed,* and make _⌊for yourselves_⌋* a new heart and new spirit, and so why will you die, house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of the dying," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. "And so repent* and live!"

²⁸ "Now what do you think? A man had two sons. He approached* the first and* said, 'Son, go work in the vineyard today.' ²⁹ And he answered and* said, 'I do not want to!' But later he changed his mind and* went. ³⁰ And he approached the second* and* said the same thing. So he answered and* said, 'I will, sir,' and he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his* father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God!

³² I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

⁵⁶ and they proceeded to another village.

¹³ Now someone from the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me!" ¹⁴ But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"

³ No, I tell you, but unless you repent you will all perish as well!

⁵ No, I tell you, but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!"

⁷ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.

¹⁰ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

³² But it was necessary to celebrate and to rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead, and is alive, and was lost, and is found!'"

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world in order that he should judge* the world, but in order that the world should be saved through him.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "Look, you have become well! Sin no longer, lest something worse happen to you."

¹⁵ You judge according to externals; I do not judge anyone.

³⁶ Jesus replied, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here."

⁴ Or do you despise the wealth of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

²⁰ Now the law came in as a side issue, in order that the trespass could increase, but where sin increased, grace was present in greater abundance, ²¹ so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ For rulers are not a cause of terror for a good deed, but for bad conduct. So do you want not to be afraid of authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from it, ⁴ for it is God's servant to you for what is good. But if you do what is bad, be afraid, because it does not bear the sword to no purpose. For it is God's servant, the one who avenges for punishment on the one who does what is bad.

¹² For what is it to me to judge those outside? Should you not judge those inside?

¹⁵ The saying is trustworthy and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. ¹⁶ But because of this I was shown mercy, in order that in me foremost, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his total patience, for an example for those who are going to believe in him for eternal life.

¹⁵ And regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as also our dear brother Paul wrote to you, according to the wisdom that was given to him,

²¹ And I have given her time in order to repent, and she did not want to repent from her sexual immorality. ²² Behold, I am throwing her into a sickbed and those who committed adultery with her into great affliction, unless they repent from her deeds.

²⁸ He redeemed my life from going down into the pit, so* _⌊I will enjoy the light_⌋.'*

²⁸ For you light my lamp; Yahweh, my God, lights up my darkness.

¹⁹ it* will go to the generation of his fathers. Never will they see light.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

² The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; light has shined on those who lived in a land of darkness.

⁶ "I am Yahweh; I have called you in righteousness, and I have grasped your hand and watched over you; and I have given you as a covenant of the people, as a light of the nations, ⁷ to open the blind eyes, to bring the prisoner out from the dungeon, those who sit in darkness from the house of imprisonment.

⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth."

¹⁰ Who among you is in fear of Yahweh, obeys* the voice of his servant? Who walks in darkness and has no light, trusts in the name of Yahweh and depends on his God?

¹ "Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of Yahweh has risen on you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but* Yahweh will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the bright light of your sunrise.

³ Let us know, let us press on to know Yahweh; his rising is sure like the dawn. He will come like the showers to us, like the spring rain that waters the earth.

² But for you who revere* my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like _⌊fattened calves_⌋.*

¹⁴ in order that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said, ¹⁵ "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, _⌊toward the sea_⌋,* on the other side of the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles*— ¹⁶ the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, and the ones who sit in the land and shadow of death, a light has dawned on them."*

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city located on top of a hill cannot be hidden,

⁷⁸ because of the merciful compassion* of our God by which the dawn will visit to help us from on high, ⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace."

³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory to your people Israel."

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of humanity.* ⁵ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome* it. ⁶ A man came, sent from God, _⌊whose name was_⌋* John. ⁷ This one came for a witness, in order that he could testify about the light, so that all would believe through him. ⁸ That one was not the light, but came* in order that he could testify about the light. ⁹ The true light, who gives light to every person, was coming into the world.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.

¹⁷ If anyone wants to do his will, he will know about my* teaching, whether it is from God or I am speaking from myself.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, in order that everyone who believes in me will not remain in the darkness.

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us:
'I have appointed you _⌊to be_⌋* a light for the Gentiles, _⌊that you would bring_⌋* salvation to the end of the earth.'*

²³ that the Christ* was to suffer and that as the first of the resurrection from the dead, he was going to proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles."

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but held them captive in Tartarus with chains of darkness and handed them over to be kept for judgment,

¹⁷ These people are waterless springs and mists driven by a hurricane, for whom the gloom of darkness has been reserved.

⁶ And the angels who did not keep to their own domain but deserted their proper dwelling place, he has kept in eternal bonds under deep gloom for the judgment of the great day,

¹³ wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shameful deeds, wandering stars, for whom the deep gloom of darkness has been reserved for eternity.

²⁴ And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.

³¹ "If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. ³² There is another who testifies about me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true. ³³ You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. ³⁴ (And I do not receive testimony from people, but I say these things in order that you may be saved.) ³⁵ That one was the lamp which was burning and shining, and you wanted to rejoice for an hour in his light. ³⁶ "But I have a testimony greater than John's, for the works which the Father has given to me that I should complete them—the very works which I am doing—these testify about me, that the Father has sent me. ³⁷ And the Father who sent me, that one has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his form. ³⁸ And you do not have his word residing in yourselves, because the one whom that one sent, in this one you do not believe. ³⁹ You search* the scriptures because you think that you have eternal life in them, and it is these that testify about me. ⁴⁰ And you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life. ⁴¹ "I do not accept glory* from people, ⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me. If another should come in his own name, you would accept that one! ⁴⁴ How are you able to believe, if you* accept glory from one another, and do not seek the glory which is from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father! The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have put your hope! ⁴⁶ For if you had believed Moses, you would believe me, for that one wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe that one's writings, how will you believe my words?"

³ Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,

¹⁴ Moreover, from the appointed day I was made their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year until the thirty-second year of King Artaxerxes—twelve years. My brothers and I did not eat the food allowance of the governor. ¹⁵ The former governors who were before me laid burdens on the people, and they took food and wine from them, besides forty shekels. Also, their servants controlled the people, but I did not do so because of the fear of God. ¹⁶ I also devoted myself to the work of this wall, and we did not buy land. All of my servants were gathered for the work. ¹⁷ One hundred and fifty men, prefects and Jews, and those who came to us from the nations around us, were at my table. ¹⁸ Now what was prepared each day for me was one ox, six choice sheep, and birds. And every ten days all kinds of wine were made. But for this I did not demand the food allowance of the governor because the slavery was too heavy on this people. ¹⁹ Remember me for good, my God, all that I have done for this people.

²⁷ Yet we know where this man is from, but the Christ, whenever he comes—no one knows where he is from!" ²⁸ Then Jesus cried out in the temple courts,* teaching and saying, "You both know me and you know where I am from! And I have not come from myself, but the one who sent me is true, whom you do not know. ²⁹ I know him, because I am from him and he sent me."

⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I have come forth from God and have come. For I have not come from myself, but that one sent me.

²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this man is from." ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, "For the remarkable thing is this, that you do not know where he is from, and he opened my eyes!

¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.

³⁶ do you say about he whom the Father set apart and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

³ because he* knew that the Father had given him all things into his* hands, and that he had come forth from God and was going away to God,

¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works.

²⁸ I have gone out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

⁸ because the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them* and know truly that I have come from you, and they have believed that you have sent me.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is blessed _⌊forever_⌋*, knows that I am not lying.

¹¹ I have become a fool! You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for I am in no way inferior to the preeminent apostles,* even if I am nothing.

¹⁹ Have you been thinking all this time that we are defending ourselves to you? We are speaking in Christ before God, and all these things, dear friends, are for your edification.

¹⁴ "And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
"This is what the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the originator* of God's creation, says:

⁷ But Yahweh said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For God does not see what man sees, for a man _⌊looks on the outward appearance_⌋,* but Yahweh _⌊looks on the heart_⌋."*

Do you really speak what is right when silent?* Do you judge fairly the children of humankind?* ² No, in your heart you plan injustices; in the land* you weigh out the violence of your hands.

²⁰ Can there be allied with you a throne of destruction, one that forms trouble based on statute? ²¹ They band together against the life of the righteous, and declare the blameless guilty of blood.*

⁷ Ah, you who turn justice into wormwood and hurl righteousness to the ground!

¹² Do horses run on rocks, or does one plow the sea with oxen?* But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood!

⁴ Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice does not go forth perpetually.* For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice goes forth perverted.

¹⁴ But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?"

²⁴ Do not judge according to outward appearance, but judge according to righteous judgment!"

¹¹ And she said, "No one, Lord." So Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and* sin no more."*

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,* I will not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

¹ Therefore you are without excuse, O man, every one of you who passes judgment. For in that which you pass judgment on someone else, you condemn yourself, for you who are passing judgment are doing the same things.

¹⁵ Now the spiritual person discerns all things, but he himself is judged by no one.

³ But to me it is a very little matter that I be judged by you or by a human court,* but I do not even judge myself. ⁴ For I am conscious of nothing against myself, but not by this am I vindicated. But the one who judges me is the Lord. ⁵ Therefore do not judge anything before the time, until the Lord should come, who will both enlighten the hidden things of darkness and will reveal the counsels of hearts, and then praise will come to each one from God.

⁴ have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁶ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. ⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

¹ Of Solomon.*
O God, give your judgments to the king, and your righteousness to the king's son. ² May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

⁹ before Yahweh, for he is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity.

⁴ And the strength of the king loves justice.* You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁷ _⌊His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end_⌋* on* the throne of David and over* his kingdom, to establish it* and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

² And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest on him— a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and might, a spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh. ³ And his _⌊breath_⌋* is in the fear of Yahweh. ¹ See, a king will rule according to righteousness, and princes will rule according to justice. ² And each one will be like a hiding place from the wind and a covering from the rainstorm, like streams of water in a dry region, like the shade of a large rock in a weary land.

⁵ "Look, days are coming," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "when I will raise up for David a righteous branch, and he will reign as king, and he will achieve success, and he will do justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* and this is his name by which he will be called: 'Yahweh is our righteousness.'

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king comes to you; he is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, and on a male donkey, _⌊the foal of_⌋* a female donkey!

²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly I say to you that the one who hears my word and who believes the one who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ "Truly, truly I say to you, that an hour is coming—and now is here—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and the ones who hear will live. ²⁶ For just as the Father has life in himself, thus also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself. ²⁷ And he has granted him authority to carry out judgment, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ "Do not be astonished at this, because an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear his voice ²⁹ and they will come out—those who have done good things to a resurrection of life, but those who have practiced evil things to a resurrection of judgment. ³⁰ I am able to do nothing from myself. ³¹ because he has set a day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness by the man who he has appointed, having provided proof to everyone by* raising him from the dead."

¹¹ And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and the one seated on it was called "Faithful" and "True," and with justice* he judges and makes war.

⁶ _⌊On the evidence of_⌋* two or three witnesses _⌊the person shall be put to death_⌋.* The person* shall not be put to death by the mouth of one witness.

¹⁵ _⌊The testimony of a single witness may not be used to convict_⌋* with respect to any crime and for any wrongdoing in any offense that a person* committed; on the _⌊evidence_⌋* of two witnesses or on the _⌊evidence_⌋* of three witnesses _⌊a charge shall be sustained_⌋.*

¹⁶ But if he does not listen, take with you in addition one or two others, so that by _⌊the testimony_⌋* of two or three witnesses every matter may be established.

²⁵ But this happened* so that the word that is written in their law would be fulfilled, 'They hated me without a reason.'

¹ This is the third time I am coming to you. _⌊By the testimony_⌋* of two or three witnesses every word* will be established.

²⁴ So then, the law became our guardian until Christ, in order that we could be justified by faith.

²¹ Tell me, you who are wanting to be under the law, do you not understand* the law?

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

⁹ If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater, because this is the testimony of God that he has testified concerning his Son.

³ And I will grant authority* to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days, dressed in sackcloth."

²⁵ So they began to say to him,* "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "_⌊What_⌋* I have been saying to you from the beginning.

³⁸ I speak the things that I have seen with the Father; so also you do the things that you have heard from the Father."

⁵¹ Truly, truly I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never experience death _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, before Abraham was, I am!"

⁹ I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and will go out and will find pasture.

¹¹ "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

¹⁴ "I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me,

³⁰ The Father and I are one."

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live,

⁴ while* God was testifying at the same time by signs and wonders and various miracles and distributions of the Holy Spirit according to his will.

⁶ This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ, not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. ⁷ For there are three that testify,* ⁸ the Spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are _⌊in agreement_⌋*. ⁹ If we receive the testimony of people, the testimony of God is greater, because this is the testimony of God that he has testified concerning his Son. ¹⁰ (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.) ¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ and the one who lives, and I was dead, and behold, I am living _⌊forever and ever_⌋*, and I hold the keys of death and of Hades.

¹⁶ He judged the legal cause of the needy and the poor, and then it was well. _⌊Is that not what it means to know me_⌋?*" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁷ And I will give to them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh, and _⌊they will be my people_⌋,* and _⌊I will be their God_⌋,* for they will return to me with the whole of their heart.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and* said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed them to young children.*

²¹ At that same time he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to young children. Yes, Father, for this was pleasing before you. ²² All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him."*

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, and the world did not recognize* him.

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

²⁸ Then Jesus cried out in the temple courts,* teaching and saying, "You both know me and you know where I am from! And I have not come from myself, but the one who sent me is true, whom you do not know.

⁵⁴ Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you say, 'He is our God.' ⁵⁵ And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you! But I know him and I keep his word.

¹⁴ "I am the good shepherd, and I know my own, and my own know me, ¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ⁷ If you had known me, you would have known* my Father also. From now on* you know him and have seen him." ⁸ Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us." ⁹ Jesus said to him, "Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father?'

²¹ But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.

³ And they will do these things because they do not know the Father or me.

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

²⁵ Righteous Father, although the world does not know you, yet I have known you, and these men have come to know that you sent me. ²⁶ And I made known to them your name, and will make it* known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I may be in them."

³⁴ Sober up correctly and _⌊stop sinning_⌋*, for some have no knowledge of God—I say this to your shame.

⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus* as Lord, and ourselves as your slaves for the sake of Jesus. ⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

⁹ But now, because you have come to know God, or rather have come to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental spirits? Do you want to be enslaved to them* all over again?

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, _⌊the glorious Father_⌋*,* may give you a spirit of wisdom* and revelation in the knowledge of him

¹⁰ so that you may live in a manner worthy of the Lord, _⌊to please him in all respects_⌋*, bearing fruit in every good deed and increasing in the knowledge of God,

¹⁵ who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all* creation,

³ who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all things by the word of power.* When he* had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, in order that we may know the one who is true, and we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ Everyone who goes too far and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in the teaching—this person has both the Father and the Son.

²⁶ For the four mighty gatekeepers, they who were Levites, _⌊were entrusted_⌋* and were over the chambers and over the storerooms of the house of God.

⁶ But the chief priests took the silver coins and* said, "It is not permitted to put them into the temple treasury, because it is _⌊blood money_⌋."*

⁴¹ And he sat down opposite the contribution box and* was observing how the crowd was putting coins into the contribution box. And many rich people were putting in many coins.*

⁴³ And summoning his disciples, he said to them, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow put in more than all those who put offerings* into the contribution box.

³¹ At that same hour some Pharisees came up and* said to him, "Go out and depart from here, because Herod wants to kill you!" ³² And he said to them, "Go and* tell that fox, 'Behold, I am expelling demons and performing healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will complete my work.'* ³³ Nevertheless, it is necessary for me to be on the way today and tomorrow and on the next day, because it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem.

¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay their* hands on him at that same hour, and they were afraid of the people, for they knew that he had told this parable with reference to them.

⁸ You go up to the feast. I am not* going up to this feast, because my time is not yet completed.*

³⁰ So they were seeking to seize him, and no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

⁴⁴ And some of them were wanting to seize him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁵⁹ Then they picked up stones in order to throw them* at him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple courts.*

³⁹ So they were seeking again to seize him, and he departed out of their hand.

⁹ Jesus replied, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.

¹⁰ _⌊As Yahweh your God lives_⌋,* surely there is not a nation or a kingdom to which my lord has not sent me to seek you. If they would say, 'He is not here,' then he would make the kingdom or the nation swear that it could not find you.

¹⁶ Then they said to him, "Look, there are with your servants fifty able men. Please let them go and look for your master, lest the Spirit of Yahweh has lifted him up and thrown him on one of the mountains or into one of the valleys," but he said, "You must not send them." ¹⁷ But they urged him until embarrassing him, so he said, "Send them." So they sent fifty men, and they looked for three days, but they could not find him.

¹¹ His bones were full of his vigor, but* it will lie down with him on* the dust.

¹⁸ Surely you set them on slippery places. You cause them to fall onto ruin.* ¹⁹ How they become a desolation in a moment! They come to a complete end by terrors. ²⁰ Like a dream upon awakening, when you wake up, O Lord, you will despise their fleeting form.*

⁷ With the death of a wicked person, hope will die, and the expectation of the godless perishes.

³² By his evildoing, the wicked will be overthrown, and the righteous will find refuge in his death.

²⁰ There will no longer be a nursing infant _⌊who lives only a few_⌋* days, or* an old man who does not fill his days, for the boy will die _⌊a hundred years old_⌋,* and the one who _⌊fails to reach_⌋* _⌊a hundred years_⌋* will be _⌊considered_⌋* accursed.

¹⁸ _⌊When I say_⌋* to the wicked, 'Surely you will die,' and you do not warn him and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way _⌊so that he may live_⌋,* that wicked person will die because of his guilt, and from your hand I will seek his blood. ¹⁹ And you, if you do warn the wicked and he does not turn from his wickedness and from his wicked way, on account of his guilt he will die, and you yourself will have saved your life.*

³⁹ For I tell you, you will never see me from now on until you say,
'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"*

²³ "At that time if anyone should say to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'Here he is,' do not believe him!* ²⁴ For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

⁴¹ Then he will also say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!

⁴⁶ And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and he was carried away by the angels to _⌊Abraham's side_⌋.* And the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes as he* was in torment and* saw Abraham from a distance, and Lazarus _⌊at his side_⌋.* ²⁴ And he called out and* said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he could dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering pain in this flame!' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you received your good things during your life, and Lazarus likewise bad things. But now he is comforted here, but you are suffering pain. ²⁶ And in addition to all these things, a great chasm has been established between us and you, so that those who want to cross over from here to you are not able to do so,* nor can they cross over from there to us.'

³⁴ You will seek me and will not find me,** and where I am, you cannot come."

²⁴ Thus I said to you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."

³³ (Now he said this to indicate by what sort of death he was going to die.)

³³ Children, yet a little time I am with you. You will seek me and just as I said to the Jews, "Where I am going you cannot come," now I say also to you.

¹⁷ But if Christ has not been raised, your faith is empty; you are still in your sins. ¹⁸ And as a further result, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

¹ And you, _⌊although you were dead_⌋** in your trespasses and sins,

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people.

¹⁸ Let lying lips be dumb, that speak against the righteous* unrestrained with arrogance and contempt.

⁴ For long enough our soul has had its fill of the derision of the self-confident, the contempt of the arrogant.

²⁰ The crowd replied, "You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?"

³⁵ So the Jews said to one another, "Where is this one going to go, that we will not find him? He is not going to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?*

⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said to him, "Do we not correctly say that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?"

⁵² The Jews* said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham and the prophets died, and you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death _⌊forever_⌋.'*

²⁰ And many of them were saying, "He has a demon and is out of his mind! Why do you listen to him?"

³ For consider the one who endured such hostility by sinners against himself,* so that you will not grow weary in your souls and give up.

¹³ So we must go out to him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

⁴ As for the works of humankind, by the word of your lips, I have kept from the ways of the violent.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.

¹³ And no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.

³¹ The one who comes from above is over all. The one who is from the earth is from the earth and speaks from the earth; the one who comes from heaven is over all.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated* you. ¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

⁷ because the mindset of the flesh is enmity toward God, for it is not subjected to the law of God, for it is not able to do so, ⁸ and those who are in the flesh are not able to please God.

⁴⁷ The first man is from the earth, made of earth; the second man is from heaven. ⁴⁸ As the one who is made of earth, so also are those who are made of earth, and as the heavenly, so also are those who are heavenly.

¹⁹ whose end is destruction, whose God is the stomach, and whose glory is in their shame, the ones who think on earthly things. ²⁰ For our commonwealth exists in heaven, from which also we eagerly await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, ²¹ who will transform our humble body to be conformed to his glorious body, in accordance with the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

¹⁵ This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, obedient, full of mercy and good fruits, nonjudgmental, without hypocrisy,

⁴ Adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ because everything that is in the world—the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the arrogance of material possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world.

⁵ They are from the world; _⌊therefore_⌋* they speak from the world and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. The one who knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. ²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, in order that we may know the one who is true, and we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life.

³⁶ But he who misses me injures himself.* All those who hate me love death."

⁶ Many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and they will deceive many.

¹⁶ The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who refuses to believe will be condemned.

⁸ And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them!

¹⁸ The one who believes in him is not judged,* but the one who does not believe has already been judged,* because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

³⁶ The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who disobeys the Son will not see life—but the wrath of God remains on him.*

²⁶ Jesus said to her, "I, the one speaking to you, am he.*

²¹ So he said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me and will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come!"

¹⁹ From now on I am telling you before it happens, in order that when it happens you may believe that I am he.*

¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among people by which we must be saved."

³ how will we escape if we* neglect so great a salvation which had its beginning when it* was spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard,

²⁶ For if* we keep on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury of fire that is about to consume the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think the person will be considered worthy of who treats with disdain the Son of God and who considers ordinary the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy and who insults the Spirit of grace?

²⁵ Watch out that you do not refuse the one who is speaking! For if those did not escape when they* refused the one who warned them on earth, much less will we escape,* if we* reject the one who warns from heaven,

⁶⁷ saying, "If you are the Christ, tell us!" But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will never believe,

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent* priests and Levites from Jerusalem so that they could ask him, "Who are you?"

²² Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"

¹⁷ But he answered* them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working." ¹⁸ So on account of this the Jews were seeking even more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God his own Father, thus* making himself equal with God. ¹⁹ So Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing from himself except what he sees the Father doing. For whatever that one does, these things also the Son does likewise. ²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself is doing. And greater works than these he will show him, so that you will be astonished. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes. ²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly I say to you that the one who hears my word and who believes the one who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. ²⁵ "Truly, truly I say to you, that an hour is coming—and now is here—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and the ones who hear will live. ²⁶ For just as the Father has life in himself, thus also he has granted to the Son to have life in himself. ²⁷ And he has granted him authority to carry out judgment, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ "Do not be astonished at this, because an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear his voice ²⁹ and they will come out—those who have done good things to a resurrection of life, but those who have practiced evil things to a resurrection of judgment.

²⁴ So the Jews surrounded him and began to say* to him, "_⌊How long will you keep us in suspense_⌋?* If you are the Christ, tell us plainly!"

⁹ and he entered into the governor's residence again and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus did not give him an answer.

³² What he has seen and heard, this he testifies, and no one accepts his testimony. ³³ The one who accepts his testimony has attested that God is true.

⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me. If another should come in his own name, you would accept that one!

¹⁶ So Jesus answered them and said, "My teaching is not mine, but is from the one who sent me.

¹⁶ But even if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me. ¹⁷ And even in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.*

⁴⁰ But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who spoke to you the truth which I heard from God. This Abraham did not do.

³⁹ And Jesus said,* "For judgment I have come into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind!" ⁴⁰ Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and said to him, "We are not also blind, are we?"* ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would not have sin. But now you say, 'We see,' your sin remains.

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,* I will not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸ The one who rejects me and does not accept my words has one who judges him; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. ⁴⁹ For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father himself who sent me _⌊has commanded me_⌋* what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. So the things that I say, just as the Father said to me, thus I say."

¹⁵ No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you.

¹² I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them* now.

¹⁸ But God is faithful, so that our word to you is not "yes" and "no."

¹¹ Concerning this* _⌊we have much to say and it is difficult to explain_⌋*, since you have become sluggish in hearing. ¹² For indeed, although you* ought to be teachers _⌊by this time_⌋*, you have need of someone to teach you again the beginning elements of the oracles of God, and _⌊you have need of_⌋* milk, not* solid food.

⁹ And he said, "Go and say to this people,
'Keep on listening and do not comprehend! And keep on looking and do not understand!'

¹⁸ Deaf people, listen! And blind people, look to see! ¹⁹ Who is blind but my servant or* deaf like my messenger whom I sent? Who is blind like the one who is repaid or* blind like the servant of Yahweh? ²⁰ You see many things, but* you do not observe. His ears are open, but* he does not hear.

¹⁰ We grope like the blind along a wall, and we grope _⌊as without_⌋* eyes. We stumble at noon as in the twilight; among the strong we are like the dead.

⁴³ _⌊Why_⌋* do you not understand my way of speaking? Because you are not able to listen to my message.

⁴⁷ The one who is from God listens to the words of God. Because of this you do not listen—because you are not of God."

⁷ What then? What Israel was searching for, this it did not obtain. But the elect obtained it, and the rest were hardened, ⁸ just as it is written,
"God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, until this very day."* ⁹ And David says,
"Let their table become a snare and a trap, and a cause for stumbling and a retribution to them; ¹⁰ let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and cause their backs to bend _⌊continually_⌋*."*

³ But if indeed our gospel is veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, ⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

²⁸ And Moses said, "In this you will know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; it is not from my heart. ²⁹ _⌊If they die a natural death_⌋* or _⌊if a natural fate is visited upon them_⌋,* Yahweh has not sent me. ³⁰ But if Yahweh creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up and _⌊all that belongs to them_⌋,* and they go down alive to Sheol, and you will know that these men have despised Yahweh."

⁵⁰ And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and* gave up his* spirit. ⁵¹ And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks were split. ⁵² And the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, ⁵³ and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. ⁵⁴ Now the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus, when they* saw the earthquake and the things that took place, were extremely frightened, saying, "Truly this man was God's Son!"

¹¹ Truly, truly I say to you, we speak what we know, and we testify about what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony!

¹⁴ And just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,* thus it is necessary that the Son of Man be lifted up,

¹⁹ So Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing from himself except what he sees the Father doing. For whatever that one does, these things also the Son does likewise.

³⁰ I am able to do nothing from myself. Just as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me.

³⁸ because I have come down from heaven not that I should do my will, but the will of the one who sent me.

⁴² And I know that you always hear me, but for the sake of the crowd standing around I said it,* so that they may believe that you sent me."

³² And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." ³³ (Now he said this to indicate by what sort of death he was going to die.) ³⁴ Then the crowd replied to him, "We have heard from the law that the Christ remains _⌊forever_⌋!* And how do you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"

¹⁰ and concerning righteousness, because I am going away to the Father and you will see me no more,

¹⁸ where they crucified him, and with him two others, _⌊one on each side_⌋,* and Jesus in the middle.

⁴¹ So those who accepted his message were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.

⁴ But many of those who listened to the message believed, and the number of the men was approximately five thousand.

⁴ who was declared Son of God in power according to _⌊the Holy Spirit_⌋* by the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and who persecuted us, and who are not pleasing to God and are opposed to all people, ¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles in order that they may be saved, so that they always fill up their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the end.*

² For if the word spoken through angels was binding and every transgression and act of disobedience received a just penalty, ³ how will we escape if we* neglect so great a salvation which had its beginning when it* was spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard,

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations.

⁶ "I am Yahweh; I have called you in righteousness, and I have grasped your hand and watched over you; and I have given you as a covenant of the people, as a light of the nations,

²¹ Yahweh was willing for the sake of his righteousness; he showed his teaching to be great and proved it to be glorious.

⁴ But* I myself said, "I have labored in* vain; I have used up my strength for nothing and vanity! Nevertheless, my justice is with Yahweh, and my reward is with my God." ⁵ And now Yahweh says, who formed me from the womb as a servant for him, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might not* be gathered, for* I am honored in the eyes of Yahweh, and my God has become my strength. ⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth." ⁷ Thus says Yahweh, the redeemer of Israel, his holy one,
to the one who despises* life, to the one who abhors the nation, to the slave of rulers: "Kings shall see and stand up; princes, and they shall bow down, for the sake of Yahweh, who is faithful, the holy one of Israel, and he has chosen you." ⁸ Thus says Yahweh:
"I have answered you in a time of favor, and helped you on a day of salvation, and watched over you, and given you as a covenant of the people, to raise up the land, to give the desolate hereditary property as an inheritance,

⁴ The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of a pupil, to know how to help the weary with a word. He awakens _⌊morning by morning_⌋,* awakens an ear for me to listen as do the pupils. ⁵ The Lord Yahweh has opened an ear for me, and I, I was not rebellious. I did not turn backwards; ⁶ I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my _⌊beard_⌋;* I did not hide my face from insults and spittle. ⁷ And the Lord Yahweh helps me,
therefore I have not been put to shame; therefore I have set my face like flint. And I know that I shall not be ashamed; ⁸ he who obtains rights for me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand together. Who is the master of my judgment? Let him approach me. ⁹ Look! The Lord Yahweh helps me. Who is the one who will declare me guilty? Look! All of them will be worn out like a garment; the moth will eat them.

¹⁷ And behold, there was* a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

¹⁶ But even if I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me.

¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works. ¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if not, believe because of the works themselves.

³¹ But so that the world may know that I love the Father, and just as the Father has commanded me, thus I am doing. Get up, let us go from here!

¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

⁴ I have glorified you on earth by* completing the work that you have given me _⌊to do_⌋.*

¹⁷ But the Lord helped me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fulfilled and all the Gentiles might hear, and he rescued me from the lion's mouth.

²² The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our weaknesses, but who has been tempted in all things in the same way, without sin.

⁸ Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered, ⁹ and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,

²⁶ For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted above the heavens,

⁵ Therefore, when he* came into the world, he said,
"Sacrifice and offering you did not want, but a body you prepared for me; ⁶ you did not delight in whole burnt offerings and offerings for sins. ⁷ Then I said, 'Behold, I have come— in the roll of the book it is written about me— to do your will, O God.' ⁸ When he says above,
"Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin you did not want, nor did you delight in,"*
which are offered according to the law, ⁹ then he has said,
"Behold, I have come to do your will."*
He takes away the first in order to establish the second, ¹⁰ by which will we are made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one,

²³ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name because they* saw his signs which he was doing.

¹⁴ Now when* the people saw the sign that he performed, they began to say,* "This one is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world!"

³¹ But from the crowd many believed in him and were saying, "Whenever the Christ comes, he will not perform more signs than this man has done, will he?"*

⁴² And many believed in him there.

⁴⁵ Then many of the Jews who had come with Mary and saw the things which he did believed in him.

¹⁴ If you will fear Yahweh, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not be rebellious against _⌊what Yahweh says_⌋,* and both you and the king who rules over you will follow after Yahweh your God, all will be well.

¹³ But the one who endures to the end—this person will be saved.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said about him, "Look! _⌊A true Israelite_⌋* in whom is no deceit!"

⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

⁶⁶ For this reason many of his disciples _⌊drew back_⌋* and were not walking with him any longer. ⁶⁷ So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?"* ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God." ⁷⁰ Jesus replied to them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is the devil?" ⁷¹ (Now he was speaking about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, because this one—one of the twelve—was going to betray him.)

³⁶ So if the son sets you free, you will be truly free.

⁴ Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. ⁵ "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him—this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. ⁶ If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw them* into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. ⁸ My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit, and prove to be my disciples. ⁹ "Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love.

⁴³ And after* the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the devout* proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and* were persuading them to continue in the grace of God.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them* to continue in the faith and saying,* "Through many persecutions* it is necessary for us to enter into the kingdom of God."

²² Therefore I have experienced help from God until this day, and* I stand here testifying to both small and great, saying nothing except what both the prophets and Moses have said were going to happen,

⁷ to those who, by perseverance in good work, seek glory and honor and immortality, eternal life,

²² See, then, the kindness and severity of God: severity upon those who have fallen, but upon you the kindness of God—if you continue in his kindness, for otherwise you also will be cut off.

²³ if indeed you remain in the faith, established and steadfast and not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

¹⁵ But she will be saved through the bearing of children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness with self-control.

¹⁶ Fix your attention on yourself and on your teaching. Continue in them, for by* doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

³ Honor widows who are truly widows. ⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must learn to show profound respect for their own household first, and to pay back recompense to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God. ⁵ But the widow who is one truly, and is left alone, has put her hope in God and continues in her petitions and prayers night and day.

¹⁴ But you continue in the things which you have learned and are convinced of, because you* know from whom you learned them,

¹⁴ For we have become partners of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of our commitment steadfast until the end,

⁹ not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took hold of them by my hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I disregarded them, says the Lord.

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him."* ³⁹ But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but among those who have faith to the preservation of our souls.

²⁵ But the one who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues to do it, not being a forgetful hearer but a doer who acts, this one will be blessed _⌊in what he does_⌋*.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they went out*, in order that it might be shown that all of them are not of us.

²⁴ As for you, what you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.

⁵ Cause me to walk in your truth and teach me, because you are the God of my salvation. I await you _⌊all day long_⌋.*

⁸ Good and right is Yahweh; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. ⁹ He causes the humble to walk in justice, and teaches the humble his way.

⁴⁵ And I will go about _⌊freely_⌋,* for I have sought your precepts.

²³ May you turn to my argument!* Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of Yahweh,

¹ My child, if you will receive* my sayings, and hide my commands with you, ² in order to incline your ear toward wisdom, then you shall apply your heart to understanding. ³ For if you cry out for understanding,* if you lift* your voice for insight, ⁴ if you seek her like silver and search her out _⌊like treasure_⌋,* ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and the knowledge of God you will find. ⁶ For Yahweh will give wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ For the upright, he stores* sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly,

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous ones is like the light of dawn, leading and shining until the day _⌊is full_⌋.*

⁷ Tell me, you whom my _⌊heart_⌋* loves, where do you pasture your flock, where do your sheep lie down at the noon? _⌊For why should I be like_⌋* one who is veiled* beside the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you do not know, O fairest among women, follow _⌊the tracks_⌋* of the flock, and pasture your little lambs* beside the tents of the shepherds.

³ many peoples shall come. And they shall say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house* of the God of Jacob, and may he teach us part of his ways, and let us walk in his paths." For instruction shall go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word from behind you, saying, "this is the way; walk in it," when you go to your right and when you go to your left.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness. The unclean shall not travel through it, but* it is for them, he who walks on the way; and fools shall not wander about.

¹³ And all your children shall be pupils of Yahweh, and the peace of your children shall be great.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound,

¹⁶ Thus says Yahweh: "Stand at the roads and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the way of the good is, and walk in it, and find rest for your inner selves.* But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'*

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people. ³⁴ And they will no longer teach each one his neighbor, or each one his brother, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Know Yahweh,' for all of them will know me, from their _⌊smallest_⌋* and up to their _⌊greatest_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember."

²⁹ Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

¹¹ And he answered and* said to them, "To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to those people it has not been granted. ¹² For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have an abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.'* Everyone who hears from the Father and learns comes to me.

¹³ But when he—the Spirit of truth—comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak from himself, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will proclaim to you the things to come.

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth—your word is truth.

¹⁴ For sin will not be master over you, because you are not under law, but under grace. ¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! ¹⁶ Do you not know that to whomever you present yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to whomever you obey, whether sin, leading to death, or obedience, leading to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that you were slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted, ¹⁸ and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.

²² But now, having been set free from sin and having been enslaved to God, you have your fruit leading to sanctification, and its end is eternal life.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba!* Father!"

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, reflecting* the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory into glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

¹ For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not let your freedom become an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

²⁵ correcting those who are opposed with gentleness, seeing whether perhaps God may grant them repentance to a knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they will come to their senses again and escape from the trap of the devil, being held captive by him to do his will.

⁷ always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth.

¹² Thus speak and thus act as those who are going to be judged by the law of liberty.

¹⁶ Live as free persons, and not using your* freedom as a covering for evil, but as slaves of God.

¹³ And he said to Abram, "_⌊You must surely know_⌋* that your descendants shall be as aliens in a land _⌊not their own_⌋.* And they shall serve them* and they* shall oppress them four hundred years.

¹³ And the Egyptians ruthlessly compelled the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to work. ¹⁴ And they made their lives bitter with hard work with mortar and with bricks and with all sorts of work in the field—with all their work in which they ruthlessly enslaved them.

⁴² Because they are my servants whom I brought out from the land of Egypt, they shall not be sold _⌊as a slave_⌋.*

¹⁸ And when Yahweh raised leaders* for them, Yahweh was with the leader,* and he delivered them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the leader,* for Yahweh was moved by their groaning because of their persecutors and oppressors.

⁸ And _⌊the anger of Yahweh was kindled_⌋* against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim, the king of Aram Naharaim; and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried to Yahweh, as he had nine hundred iron chariots,* and he oppressed the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊cruelly_⌋* for twenty years.*

⁹ For we are slaves and in our bondage our God did not forsake us, and he has extended to us loyal love in the presence of the kings of Persia, to give to us deliverance* and to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judea and Jerusalem.

⁴ And there were those who were saying, "We have borrowed money on our fields and our vineyards for the tax of the king. ⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others." ⁶ I was very angry when I heard their shouts and these words. ⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, ⁸ and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say.

²⁷ Therefore you gave them into the hand of their enemy, and they brought trouble to them. Then in the time of their trouble they cried out to you, and you heard from the heavens, and according to your great compassions, you gave them saviors, and you saved them from the hand of their enemies. ²⁸ But when they had rest they returned to doing evil before you, and you abandoned them in the hand of their enemies, and they ruled over them. Then they returned and cried out to you, and from the heavens you heard and many times rescued them according to your compassions.

³⁶ Behold, we are slaves to this day, and the land that you have given to our ancestors* to eat its fruits and enjoy its goodness—behold, we are slaves in it! ³⁷ Its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have given over us because of our sins, and they are ruling over our dead bodies and our livestock at their pleasure. We are in great trouble.

⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

³⁷ I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word makes no progress among you.

³⁹ They answered and said to him, "Abraham is our father!" Jesus said to them, "If you are children of Abraham, do the deeds of Abraham!

²⁵ Now his mother and the sister of his mother, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene were standing near the cross of Jesus.

²⁵ Truly, there was no one like Ahab who had sold himself by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh, whose wife Jezebel urged him on.

²² His iniquities shall ensnare him, the evildoer, and in the vanity of his sin he shall be caught.

¹⁸ For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one tiny letter or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all takes place.

³ Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless someone is born from above,* he is not able to see the kingdom of God."

²³ For I see you are in _⌊a state of bitter envy_⌋* and _⌊bound by unrighteousness_⌋."*

⁶ knowing this, that our old man was crucified together with him, in order that the body of sin may be done away with, that we may no longer be enslaved to sin.

¹² Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires,

¹⁶ Do you not know that to whomever you present yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves to whomever you obey, whether sin, leading to death, or obedience, leading to righteousness?

¹⁹ (I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) For just as you presented your members as slaves to immorality and lawlessness, leading to lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, leading to sanctification. ²⁰ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with respect to righteousness.

¹⁴ For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, _⌊sold into slavery to sin_⌋*.

²⁵ Thanks be* to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with my mind am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

²¹ that the creation itself also will be set free from its servility to decay, into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

² in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, enslaved to various desires and pleasures, spending our lives in wickedness and envy, despicable, hating one another.

¹⁹ promising them freedom although they* themselves are slaves of depravity. For to whatever someone succumbs, by this he is also* enslaved.

⁸ The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed: in order to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Everyone who is fathered by God does not practice sin, because his seed resides in him, and he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God. ¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, namely, the one who does not love his brother.

¹⁰ Then she said to Abraham, "Drive out this slave woman and her son, for the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, with Isaac."

¹⁷ And if he give a gift from his inheritance to one from among his servants, then it will belong* to him until the year of release,* and then it will return to the prince. His inheritance with respect to his sons will be only for them.

⁴¹ They said to him, "He will destroy those evil men completely and lease the vineyard to other tenant farmers who will give him the fruits in their season." ⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures,
'The stone which the builders rejected, this has become _⌊the cornerstone_⌋.* This came about from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?* ⁴³ For this reason, I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and will be given to a people* who produce its fruits.

³¹ But he said to him, 'Child, you are always with me, and _⌊everything I have belongs to you_⌋.*

¹⁹ Yet a little time and the world will see me no longer, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. ²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, "Abba!* Father!" ¹⁶ The Spirit himself confirms to our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer together with him so that we may also be glorified together with him.

²⁹ because those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he should be the firstborn among many brothers. ³⁰ And those whom he predestined, these he also called, and those whom he called, these he also justified, and those whom he justified, these he also glorified.

⁴ But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ in order that he might redeem those under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption. ⁶ And because you are sons, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba!* (Father!)," ⁷ so that you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, also an heir through God.

³⁰ But what does the scripture say? "Drive out the female slave and her son, for the son of the female slave will never inherit with the son"* of the free woman. ³¹ Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the female slave but of the free woman.

³ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

⁵ And Moses was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony to the things that would be spoken, ⁶ but Christ was faithful* as a son over his house, whose house we are, if* we hold fast to our confidence and the hope we can be proud of.

² according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ. May grace and peace be multiplied to you. ³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ into an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, reserved in heaven for you ⁵ who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time,

¹³ Also, keep back your servant from arrogant sins;* let them not rule over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.

³² I will run the way of your commands, for you will enlarge my heart.*

¹³³ Direct my steps in your word,* and do not let any iniquity gain power over me.

²⁴ Can war-booty be taken from the mighty? or can a captive of a righteous* person be rescued? ²⁵ But thus says Yahweh:
"Indeed a captive of the mighty shall be taken, and the war-booty of the tyrant shall be rescued, for* I myself will dispute with your opponent, and I myself will save your children.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from _⌊the waterless pit_⌋.* ¹² Return to the fortress, O prisoners of hope; today I am declaring that I will repay you double.

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed him, "If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples, ³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

¹⁵ For the heart of this people has become dull, and with their ears they hear with difficulty, and they have shut their eyes, so that they would not see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them."*

¹⁹ When* anyone hears the word about the kingdom and does not understand it,* the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is what was sown on the side of the path. ²⁰ And what was sown on the rocky ground—this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. ²¹ But he does not have a root in himself, but _⌊lasts only a little while_⌋,* and when* affliction or persecution happens because of the word, immediately he falls away. ²² And what was sown into the thorn plants—this is the one who hears the word, and the anxiety of this world* and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word and it becomes unproductive.

¹⁶ And on account of this the Jews began to persecute* Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. ¹⁷ But he answered* them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working." ¹⁸ So on account of this the Jews were seeking even more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God his own Father, thus* making himself equal with God.

⁴⁴ How are you able to believe, if you* accept glory from one another, and do not seek the glory which is from the only God?

¹ And after these things Jesus was going about in Galilee. For he did not want to go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

¹⁹ Has not Moses given you the law, and none of you carries out the law? Why do you seek to kill me?"

²⁵ Then some of the inhabitants of Jerusalem began to say,* "Is this not the one whom they are seeking to kill?

⁶ (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion* to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write* with his* finger on the ground, taking no notice.*

³³ They replied to him, "We are descendants of Abraham and have not been enslaved to anyone at any time. How do you say, 'You will become free'?"

³⁹ They answered and said to him, "Abraham is our father!" Jesus said to them, "If you are children of Abraham, do the deeds of Abraham! ⁴⁰ But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who spoke to you the truth which I heard from God. This Abraham did not do.

⁴⁵ But because I am telling the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Who among you convicts me concerning sin? If I am telling the truth, _⌊why_⌋* do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ The one who is from God listens to the words of God. Because of this you do not listen—because you are not of God."

³¹ Then* the Jews picked up stones again so that they could stone him.

⁵³ So from that day they resolved that they should kill him.

³⁹ For this reason they were not able to believe, because again Isaiah said, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they see with their* eyes and understand with their* hearts and turn, and I heal them."* ⁴¹ Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory, and he spoke about him. ⁴² Yet despite that, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it,* so that they would not be expelled from the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than praise from God.

²⁶ "Men and brothers, sons of the family of Abraham and those among you who fear God—to us the message of this salvation has been sent!

⁷ nor are they all children because they are descendants of Abraham, but "In Isaac will your descendants be named."*

¹⁴ But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

⁷ But when he* saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

³² What he has seen and heard, this he testifies, and no one accepts his testimony.

²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but the one who sent me is true, and the things which I heard from him, these things I say to the world."

⁴¹ You are doing the deeds of your father!"
They said* to him, "We were not born from sexual immorality! We have one father, God!"

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father! That one was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand firm in the truth, because truth is not in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from his own nature,* because he is a liar and the father _⌊of lies_⌋.*

²⁴ The one who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word that you hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

⁴⁵ in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust.

²⁸ For the Jew is not _⌊one outwardly_⌋*, nor is circumcision _⌊outwardly_⌋*, in the flesh. ²⁹ But the Jew _⌊is one inwardly_⌋*, and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter, whose praise is not from people but from God.

¹² and the father _⌊of those who are circumcised_⌋* to those who are not only from the circumcision, but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham _⌊which he had while uncircumcised_⌋*.

¹⁶ Because of this, it is by faith, in order that it may be according to grace, so that the promise may be secure to all the descendants, not only to those of the law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all

⁷ then understand that the ones _⌊who have faith_⌋*, these are sons of Abraham.

²⁹ And if you are Christ's, then you are descendants of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

²² You see that faith was working together with his works, and by the works the faith was perfected. ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness,"* and he was called God's friend. ²⁴ You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

¹² The wicked plans evil against the righteous, and gnashes at him with his teeth.

³² The wicked watches for the righteous and seeks to kill him.

³⁷ I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word makes no progress among you. ³⁸ I speak the things that I have seen with the Father; so also you do the things that you have heard from the Father."

⁵⁶ Abraham your father rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it* and was glad."

¹⁶ So then, have I become your enemy by* being truthful to you?

²⁹ But just as at that time the child born according to human descent persecuted the child born according to the Spirit, so also now.

¹² not as Cain, who was of the evil one and violently murdered his brother. And _⌊for what reason_⌋* did he violently murder him? Because his deeds were evil and the deeds of his brother were righteous. ¹³ Do not marvel,* brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him.

⁴ And his tail swept away a third of the stars from heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, in order that whenever she gave birth to her child he could devour it.

¹² Because of this, rejoice, you heavens, and those who live in them! Woe to the earth and to the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great anger, because he* knows that he has little time!" ¹³ And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.

¹⁷ And the dragon was angry at the woman, and went away to _⌊fight against_⌋* the rest of her children, those who keep the commandments of God and who hold to the testimony about Jesus.

²² And you must say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says Yahweh, "Israel is my son, my firstborn."

¹ "You are children* of Yahweh your God; therefore you must not gash* yourself, and _⌊you must not make your forehead bald_⌋* for the dead.

⁶ Like this do you treat Yahweh, foolish and _⌊unwise_⌋* people? Has he not, your father, created you? He made you, and he established you.

³ "But* you, come near here, you children of a soothsayer, offspring of an adulterer and she who commits fornication. ⁴ At whom do you make fun? At whom do you _⌊open_⌋* your mouth and _⌊stick out_⌋* your tongue? Are you not children of transgression, offspring of deception, ⁵ who burn with lust among the oaks, under every leafy tree, who slaughter children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks? ⁶ Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; they, they are your lot; indeed, to them you have poured out a drink offering, you have brought a food offering.
Shall I relent concerning these things? ⁷ You have set your bed upon a high and lofty mountain; indeed, you went up there to slaughter sacrifice.

¹⁶ For you are our father, although Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, Yahweh are our father, Our Redeemer from of old is your name.

⁸ Yet now Yahweh, you are our father; we are the clay and you are our _⌊potter_⌋,* and we all are the work of your hand.

¹⁹ Then I thought, 'How I would set you among the children, and I would give you a land of desire, an inheritance of the glory of the hosts of nations.' And I thought, 'You would call me, "My father," and you would not turn back from _⌊behind_⌋* me.'

²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son, or the child of my delight? For _⌊as often as_⌋* I have earnestly spoken against him, I still remember him. _⌊Therefore_⌋* my bowels are turbulent for him, surely I will have compassion on him," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁰ 'And you took your sons and your daughters whom you had borne for me, and you sacrificed them to them to be eaten,* _⌊as if your whorings were not enough_⌋.* ²¹ And you slaughtered my children, and you gave them _⌊to be sacrificed to them_⌋.*

⁴⁵ But righteous men, they will judge them with the judgment of committing adultery, and with the judgment of shedding blood; for they were committing adultery, and blood was on their hands." ⁴⁶ For thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Bring up against them an assembly, and make them as a thing of horror and as plunder. ⁴⁷ And an assembly must stone them with stones,* and they must cut them down. With their swords they shall kill their sons and their daughters, and with fire they shall burn their houses.

² _⌊At the beginning when Yahweh spoke_⌋* through Hosea, Yahweh said to Hosea, "Go, take for yourself a wife and children of whoredom, because the land commits great whoredom _⌊forsaking Yahweh_⌋."*

² Plead with your mother, plead— because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her whoring _⌊from before her_⌋,* and her adultery from between her breasts. ³ Lest I strip her naked and expose her like the day when she was born; I will make her like the desert and turn her into parched land; I will kill her with thirst. ⁴ And I will not have pity on her children, because they are children of whoredom. ⁵ Because their mother was unfaithful;* she who conceived them has acted shamefully, for she said: "I will go after my lovers, the ones who give me my bread, my water, my wool, and my flax, my oil, and my drink."

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a slave his master;* but if I am a father, where is my honor, and if I am a master,* where is my reverence?" says Yahweh of hosts to you, O priests, _⌊who despise_⌋* my name. "But you say, 'How have we despised your name?'

¹¹ Judah has been faithless, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary of Yahweh which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign* god.

²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me. If another should come in his own name, you would accept that one!

⁴⁹ For I have not spoken from myself, but the Father himself who sent me _⌊has commanded me_⌋* what I should say and what I should speak.

²³ The one who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.

²⁷ For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. ²⁸ I have gone out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

²⁵ Righteous Father, although the world does not know you, yet I have known you, and these men have come to know that you sent me.

²² If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be accursed. O Lord, come!*

⁴ But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ By this the love of God is revealed in us: that God sent his one and only Son into the world in order that we may live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation* for our sins.

¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves _⌊the father_⌋* also loves the child fathered by him. ² By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and keep his commandments.

¹ And he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming out from the throne of God and of the Lamb

⁵ Men of evil do not understand justice, but seekers of Yahweh understand completely.*

¹⁸ They do not know, and they do not understand, for their eyes are besmeared _⌊so that they cannot see_⌋,* their _⌊minds_⌋* _⌊so that they have no insight_⌋.*

¹⁰ To whom shall I speak and admonish, that they may hear? Look, their ears are _⌊closed_⌋,* and they are not able to listen attentively. Look, the word of Yahweh is to them an object of scorn, they do not delight in it.

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

¹² But they do not know the thoughts of Yahweh, and they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them as sheaves to his threshing floor.

⁶⁰ Thus many of his disciples, when they* heard it,* said, "This saying is hard! Who can understand it?"

²⁷ (They did not know that he was speaking to them about the Father.)

³⁹ For this reason they were not able to believe, because again Isaiah said, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they see with their* eyes and understand with their* hearts and turn, and I heal them."*

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you!

¹¹ there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.

³ but from the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God said, 'You shall not eat from it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die'." ⁴ But the serpent said to the woman, "You shall not surely die. ⁵ For God knows that on the day you both eat from it, then your eyes will be opened and you both shall be like gods,* knowing good and evil." ⁶ When* the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes, and the tree was desirable to make one wise, then* she took from its fruit and she ate. And she gave it also to her husband with her, and he ate. ⁷ Then* the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed together fig leaves and they made for themselves coverings.

¹⁵ And I will put hostility between you and between the woman, and between your offspring* and between her offspring;* he will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel."

⁸ Then* Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out into the field."* And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. ⁹ Then* Yahweh said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" And he said, "I do not know; am I my brother's keeper?"

²² He said, 'I will go out and I will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he* said, 'You shall entice and succeed, go out and do so.'

¹ Then Satan* stood against Israel and urged David to count Israel.

²⁰ Then a spirit came forth and stood before Yahweh and said, 'I will entice him.' Then Yahweh said to him, 'By what means?' ²¹ Then he said, 'I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he said, 'You will entice him and will also succeed. Go out and do so.' ²² So now, behold, Yahweh has put a spirit of deception into the mouths of these your prophets. Yahweh has spoken disaster against you."

¹¹ But,* on the other hand, stretch out* your hand and touch _⌊all that belongs to him_⌋* and see _⌊whether_⌋* he will _⌊curse_⌋* you to your face."

⁴ Then* Satan* answered him and said, "Skin for skin! All that _⌊that_⌋* man has he will give for his life. ⁵ But stretch out* your hand and touch his bones and his flesh, and see _⌊whether_⌋* he will _⌊curse_⌋* you to your face."* ⁶ So* Yahweh said to Satan,* "_⌊All right_⌋,* he is in your _⌊power_⌋.* Only spare his life."

³⁸ and the field is the world. And the good seed—these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil one.

⁷⁰ Jesus replied to them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is the devil?"

³ But Peter said, "Ananias, for what reason has Satan filled your heart, that you lied to the Holy Spirit and kept back for yourself some of the proceeds of the piece of land?

¹⁰ and* said, "O you who are full of all deceit and of all unscrupulousness, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord!

³ But I am afraid lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds may be led astray from the sincerity and the purity of devotion to Christ.

¹³ For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is not a great thing if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds.

⁹ whose coming is in accordance with the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie,

¹ From where are conflicts and from where are quarrels among you? Is it not from this, from your pleasures that wage war among your members? ² You desire and do not have; you murder and are filled with envy, and are not able to obtain; you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, in order that you may spend it on your pleasures. ⁴ Adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. ⁵ Or do you think that in vain the scripture says, "The spirit which he caused to dwell in us desires jealously"?* ⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore it says,
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."* ⁷ Therefore subject yourselves to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁸ Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

⁴ The one who says "I have come to know him," and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in this person.

¹² not as Cain, who was of the evil one and violently murdered his brother. And _⌊for what reason_⌋* did he violently murder him? Because his deeds were evil and the deeds of his brother were righteous.

¹⁵ Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that every murderer does not have eternal life residing in him.

¹⁰ Do not be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and you will experience affliction ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, _⌊whose name_⌋* in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

⁶ And he opened his mouth for blasphemies toward God, to blaspheme his name and his dwelling, those who live in heaven. ⁷ And it was given to him to make war with the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given to him over every tribe and people and language and nation. ⁸ And all those who live on the earth will worship him, _⌊everyone whose name is not written_⌋* from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slaughtered.

¹⁴ And he deceives those who live on the earth because of the signs that it has been granted to him to perform on behalf of the beast, telling those who live on the earth to make an image to the beast who has the wound of the sword and yet lived.

² And he seized the dragon—the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan—and bound him for a thousand years, ³ and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it above him, in order that he could not deceive the nations again until the thousand years are completed. After these things it is necessary for him to be released for a short time.

⁷ And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and he will go out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle, _⌊whose number_⌋* is like the sand of the sea. ⁹ And they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the fortified camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and consumed them. ¹⁰ And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur, where the beast and the false prophet also are, and they will be tormented day and night _⌊forever and ever_⌋*.

⁸ But as for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the sexually immoral people and the murderers and the idolaters and everyone who loves and who practices falsehood.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment: that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who practices evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying about it, that its deeds are evil.

³⁷ Then Pilate said to him, "So then you are a king!" Jesus replied, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I was born, and for this reason I have come into the world: in order that I can testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice."

¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved.

³ For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound teaching, but in accordance with their own desires, they will accumulate for themselves teachers, _⌊because they have an insatiable curiosity_⌋*, ⁴ and they will turn away from the hearing of the truth, but will turn to myths.

²⁵ From where was the baptism of John—from heaven or from men?" And they began to discuss* this* among themselves, saying, "If we say 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

³¹ And they began to discuss* this* with one another, saying, "What should we say?* If we say 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

⁷ And when they persisted in asking him, straightening up he said* to them, "The one of you without sin, let him throw the first stone at her!"

³⁰ I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has _⌊no power_⌋* _⌊over_⌋* me.

⁸ And when he* comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and concerning righteousness and concerning judgment:

²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.

²² who did not commit sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth,*

¹² But as many as received him—to those who believe in his name—he gave to them authority to become children of God, ¹³ who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a husband, but of God.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.'* Everyone who hears from the Father and learns comes to me. ⁴⁶ (Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God—this one has seen the Father.)*

⁶⁵ And he said, "Because of this I said to you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him by the Father."

⁴⁵ But because I am telling the truth, you do not believe me.

²⁶ But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep! ²⁷ My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

⁶ "I have revealed your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you have given them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷ Now they understand that all the things that* you have given me are from you, ⁸ because the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them* and know truly that I have come from you, and they have believed that you have sent me.

¹⁰ By this the children of God and the children of the devil are evident: everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, namely, the one who does not love his brother.

¹ Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ* has come in the flesh is from God, ³ and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. ⁴ You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves _⌊the father_⌋* also loves the child fathered by him.

¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God.

⁷ Thus says Yahweh, the redeemer of Israel, his holy one,
to the one who despises* life, to the one who abhors the nation, to the slave of rulers: "Kings shall see and stand up; princes, and they shall bow down, for the sake of Yahweh, who is faithful, the holy one of Israel, and he has chosen you."

³ He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering, and acquainted with* sickness, and like _⌊one from whom others hide their faces_⌋,* he was despised, and we did not hold him in high regard.

⁵ Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them saying, "Do not go on the road to the Gentiles, and do not enter into a city of the Samaritans,

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household?

²⁴ But the Pharisees, when they* heard it,* said, "This man does not expel demons except by Beelzebul the ruler of demons!"

³¹ For this reason I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven!

⁷ Hypocrites! Isaiah correctly prophesied about you saying,

⁹ So the Samaritan woman said to him, "How do you, being a Jew, ask from me water* to drink, since I* am a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

¹³ You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and you speak correctly, for I am.

³ For even Christ did not please himself, but just as it is written, "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."*

¹⁹ You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe, and shudder!

³ And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will show my glory."

¹⁵ But Jesus answered and* said to him, "Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted him. ¹⁶ Now after he* was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming* upon him. ¹⁷ And behold, there was* a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

⁴ And when he* heard it,* Jesus said, "This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

²⁸ Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have both glorified it,* and I will glorify it* again."

³¹ Then, when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and will glorify him immediately.

¹³ And _⌊whatever_⌋* you ask in my name, I will do this, in order that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal with God something to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself by* taking the form of a slave, by* becoming in the likeness of people. And being found in appearance like a man, ⁸ he humbled himself by* becoming obedient to the point of death, that is, death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore also God exalted him and graciously granted him the name above every name, ¹⁰ so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

²³ who when he* was reviled, did not revile in return; when* suffering, he did not threaten, but entrusted himself to the one who judges justly,

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself is doing. And greater works than these he will show him, so that you will be astonished. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes. ²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

⁴¹ "I do not accept glory* from people,

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father! The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have put your hope!

¹⁸ The one who speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But the one who seeks the glory of the one who sent him—this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁵⁴ Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you say, 'He is our God.'

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,* I will not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸ The one who rejects me and does not accept my words has one who judges him; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.

⁴⁸ What man can live on and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the _⌊power_⌋* of Sheol? Selah

²⁶ And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he would see the Lord's Christ.*

¹⁵ so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life."* ¹⁶ For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

²⁴ Truly, truly I say to you that the one who hears my word and who believes the one who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that someone may eat from it and not die.

⁵⁵ And you have not known him, but I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you! But I know him and I keep his word.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live, ²⁶ and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die _⌊forever_⌋.* Do you believe this?"

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

⁵ By faith Enoch was taken up, so that he did not experience death, and he was not found, because God took him up. For before his removal, he had been approved _⌊as having been pleasing_⌋* to God.

⁵ "Your ancestors,* where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶ However, did not my words and my regulations which I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors?* And they repented and said, 'Yahweh of hosts planned to do with us according to our ways, and according to our deeds so he has dealt with us.'" '"

²⁴ So they summoned the man who had been blind for the second time and said to him, "Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner!"

⁹ but we see Jesus, for a short time made lower than the angels, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that apart from God* he might taste death on behalf of everyone.

¹³ These all died in faith without receiving the promises, but seeing them from a distance and welcoming them, and admitting that they were strangers and temporary residents on the earth.

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁶ But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here!

⁴¹ The people of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and behold, something* greater than Jonah is here! ⁴² The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something* greater than Solomon is here!

¹² You are not greater than our father Jacob, are you,* who gave us the well and drank from it himself, and his sons and his livestock?"

¹⁸ So on account of this the Jews were seeking even more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God his own Father, thus* making himself equal with God.

²⁹ My Father, who has given them* to me, is greater than all, and no one can seize them* from the Father's hand. ³⁰ The Father and I are one."

³³ The Jews answered him, "We are not going to stone you concerning a good deed, but concerning blasphemy, and because you, although you* are a man, make yourself to be God!"

³⁴ Then the crowd replied to him, "We have heard from the law that the Christ remains _⌊forever_⌋!* And how do you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?"

⁷ The Jews replied to him, "We have a law, and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself out to be the Son of God!"

⁵ to whom belong the patriarchs, and from whom is the Christ according to human descent, who is God over all, blessed _⌊forever_⌋*! Amen.

² who was faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses also was in his household.* ³ For this one is considered worthy of greater glory than Moses, inasmuch as the one who builds it has greater honor than the house.

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham as he* was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,* ² to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth of everything*—in the first place, his name is translated "king of righteousness," and then also "king of Salem," that is, "king of peace"; ³ without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God—he remains a priest for all time. ⁴ But see how great this man was, to whom Abraham* the patriarch gave a tenth from the spoils! ⁵ And indeed those of the sons of Levi who receive the priesthood have a commandment to collect a tenth from the people according to the law, that is, from their brothers, although _⌊they are descended from Abraham_⌋*. ⁶ But the one who did not trace his descent from them collected tithes from Abraham and blessed the one who had the promises. ⁷ Now without any dispute the inferior is blessed by the more prominent.

⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain." ⁷ I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you. ⁸ Ask from me and I will make the nations your heritage, and your possession the ends of the earth. ⁹ You will break them with an iron rod. Like a potter's vessel you will shatter them." ¹⁰ So then, O kings, be wise. Be warned, O rulers of the earth. ¹¹ Serve Yahweh with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son lest he be angry and you perish on the way, for his anger burns quickly. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

A declaration of Yahweh to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool." ² Yahweh will send out your mighty scepter from Zion; rule in the midst of your enemies. ³ Your people _⌊will volunteer_⌋* in the day of your power.* In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, you will have the dew of your youth.* ⁴ Yahweh has sworn and he will not change his mind, "You are a priest forever according to the manner of Melchizedek."

²⁷ To eat much honey is not good, nor is seeking one's honor* honorable.

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of Yahweh, and _⌊invoke_⌋* the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness. ² For they call themselves _⌊after the holy city_⌋,* and they lean on the God of Israel— Yahweh of hosts is his name.

⁵ Hear the word of Yahweh, you who are frightened at his word:
Your brothers who hate you, who exclude you for my name's sake have said, "Let Yahweh be honored so that* we may see your joy!" But* they themselves shall be ashamed.

¹³ "_⌊I continued watching_⌋* in the visions of the night, and look, with the clouds of heaven one like a son of man* was coming, and he came to the Ancient of Days, and _⌊was presented_⌋* before him. ¹⁴ And to him was given dominion and glory and kingship that* all the peoples, the nations, and languages would serve him; his dominion is a dominion _⌊without end_⌋* that will not cease, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

⁹ And he* said, "_⌊Name him_⌋* Lo-ammi,* for you are not my people and I am not your God.*

¹¹ This beginning of signs Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.

³¹ "If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. ³² There is another who testifies about me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.

³⁹ Now he said this concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given,* because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)

⁵⁰ But I do not seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges!

¹⁴ He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and will proclaim it* to you. ¹⁵ Everything that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he takes from what is mine and will proclaim it* to you.

¹ Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven he said, "Father, the hour has come! Glorify your Son, in order that your Son may glorify you—

⁵ And now, Father, you glorify me _⌊at your side_⌋* with the glory that I had _⌊at your side_⌋* before the world existed.

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac* and of Jacob,* the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied in the presence of Pilate, after* he had decided to release him.*

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast in God ¹⁸ and know his will and approve the things that are superior, because you* are instructed by the law, ¹⁹ and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of those in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth in the law. ²¹ Therefore, the one who teaches someone else, do you not teach yourself? The one who preaches not to steal, do you steal? ²² The one who says not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? The one who abhors idols, do you rob temples? ²³ Who boast in the law, by the transgression of the law you dishonor God!* ²⁴ For just as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."* ²⁵ For circumcision is of value if you do the law, but if you should be a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ Therefore, if the uncircumcised person follows the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be credited for circumcision? ²⁷ And the uncircumcised person by nature who carries out the law will judge you who, though provided with _⌊the precise written code_⌋* and circumcision are a transgressor of the law.

¹⁸ For it is not the one commending himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

²⁰ which he has worked* in Christ, raising* him from the dead and seating him* at his right hand in the heavenly places, ²¹ above all rule and authority and power and lordship and every name named, not only in this age but also in the coming one, ²² and he subjected all things under his feet* and gave him as head over all things to the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.

⁴ And someone does not take for himself the honor, but is called by God, just as Aaron also was. ⁵ Thus also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but the one who said to him,
"You are my Son, today I have begotten you,"*

¹² to whom it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you with reference to the same things which now have been announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, _⌊things into which_⌋* angels desire to look.

²¹ who through him are believing in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when* a voice such as this was brought to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

²² "For my people are foolish, they have not known me. They are foolish children, and they do not have insight. They are skillful at doing evil, and they do not know how to do good."

³ And they bend their tongue like their bow, for falsehood and not truth is superior in the land, for they go forth* from evil to evil, and they do not know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁴ Their deeds do not permit them to return them to God. Because a spirit of whoredom is in their midst, they do not know Yahweh.

²⁷ All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and _⌊anyone to whom_⌋* the Son wants to reveal him.*

²³ For as I* was passing through and observing carefully your objects of worship, I even found an altar on which was inscribed, 'To an unknown God.' Therefore what you worship without knowing it,* this I proclaim to you—

⁶ For God who said, "Light will shine out of darkness,"* is the one who has shined in our hearts for the enlightenment of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.*

²² Who is the liar except the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This person is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

¹⁰ (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)

⁹ Behold, I am causing those of the synagogue of Satan, the ones who call themselves Jews and are not, but are lying—behold, I will make them _⌊come_⌋* and kneel down before your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.

¹⁸ All the nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because you have listened to my voice."

¹⁷ For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it,* and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it!*

²⁸ he took him in his* arms and praised God and said, ²⁹ "Now dismiss your slave in peace, Lord, according to your word. ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation

²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and did not see them,* and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them."*

⁷ then understand that the ones _⌊who have faith_⌋*, these are sons of Abraham. ⁸ And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the good news in advance to Abraham: "In you all the nations* will be blessed."* ⁹ So then, the ones who have faith are blessed together with Abraham who believed.

³⁹ And although they* all were approved* through their faith, they did not receive what was promised,

¹⁰ Concerning this* salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace meant for you sought and made careful inquiry, ¹¹ investigating for what person or which time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he* testified beforehand to the sufferings with reference to Christ and the glories after these things, ¹² to whom it was revealed that they were serving not themselves but you with reference to the same things which now have been announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, _⌊things into which_⌋* angels desire to look.

¹⁴ And God said to Moses, "I am that I am." And he said, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am sent me to you.'"

¹³ Indeed, from this day I am the one, and no one can deliver from my hand. I perform,* and who can _⌊cancel it_⌋?"*

⁶ Thus says Yahweh, the king of Israel, and its redeemer, Yahweh of hosts: "I am the first, and I am the last, and there is no god besides me.

⁸ You must not tremble,* and you must not be paralyzed with fear. Have I not made you hear from of old* and declared it, and you are my witnesses? Is there a god besides me? And there is no rock! I know none!"

⁹ Remember the former things from _⌊a long time ago_⌋,* for I am God and there is none besides me, God and there is none like me,

¹² "Listen to me, Jacob, and Israel, _⌊whom I called_⌋:* I am he. I am the first; also I am the last.

² But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you one will go out for me, to be ruler in Israel; and his origins are from of old, from ancient days.

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² This one was in the beginning with God.

³⁴ Jesus replied to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.

¹⁷ and he himself is before all things, and in him all things are held together,

"You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of your hands; ¹¹ they will perish, but you continue, and they will all become old like a garment, ¹² and like a robe you will roll them up, and like a garment they will be changed; but you are the same, and your years will not run out."*

⁸ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and _⌊forever_⌋*.

⁸ I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, the one who is and the one who was and the one who is coming, the All-Powerful.

¹¹ saying, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea."

⁸ "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:
"This is what the first and the last says, who was dead and came to life:

¹¹ And the men who were at the entrance of the house they struck with blindness, both small and great, and they were unable to find the entrance.

¹⁶ And he who blasphemes Yahweh's name certainly shall be put to death; the whole community certainly shall stone him. As the alien, so the native shall be put to death at blaspheming his name.

¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to Yahweh and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as _⌊Elisha had spoken_⌋.* ¹⁹ Then Elisha said to them, "This is not the way and this is not the city. Come after me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." Then he brought them to Samaria. ²⁰ It happened at the moment they came to Samaria, Elisha said, "O Yahweh, open the eyes of these that they may see," so Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw, and look, the middle of Samaria!

²⁹ And they stood up and* forced him out of the town and brought him up to the edge of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. ³⁰ But he passed through their midst and* went on his way.

³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he became invisible to them.

¹³ But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn while* a crowd was in the place.

⁵ Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" ⁶ (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion* to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write* with his* finger on the ground, taking no notice.*

³⁰ The Father and I are one." ³¹ Then* the Jews picked up stones again so that they could stone him. ³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good deeds from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?" ³³ The Jews answered him, "We are not going to stone you concerning a good deed, but concerning blasphemy, and because you, although you* are a man, make yourself to be God!"

³⁹ So they were seeking again to seize him, and he departed out of their hand. ⁴⁰ And he went away again on the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John was baptizing at an earlier time, and he stayed there.

⁸ The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were seeking just now to stone you, and are you going there again?"

⁵⁴ So Jesus was no longer walking openly among the Jews, but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light." Jesus said these things, and then he went away and* was hidden from them.

³¹ So Pilate said to them, "You take him and judge him according to your law!" The Jews said to him, "It is not permitted for us to kill anyone,"

⁵⁷ But crying out with a loud voice, they stopped their ears and rushed at him with one purpose.

³⁹ And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any longer, for he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he* passed through, he proclaimed the good news to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
