¹ " 'When a person* sins in that* he hears the utterance of a curse and he is a witness or he sees or he knows, if he does not make it known, then* he shall bear his guilt. ² Or if a person* touches anything unclean, _⌊whether_⌋* an unclean wild* animal's dead body or an unclean domestic animal's dead body or an unclean swarmer's dead body, but* _⌊he is unaware of it_⌋,* he is unclean and he is guilty. ³ Or when he touches human uncleanness, _⌊namely_⌋* any uncleanness of his by which he might become unclean, but* _⌊he is unaware of it_⌋,* and he himself finds out, then* he will be guilty. ⁴ Or when a person* swears, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips, to do evil or to do good _⌊with regard to_⌋* anything that _⌊the person_⌋* in a sworn oath speaks thoughtlessly, but* _⌊he is unaware of it_⌋,* he will be guilty _⌊in any of_⌋* these. ⁵ When he becomes guilty _⌊in any of_⌋* these, he shall confess* what he has sinned _⌊regarding_⌋* it, ⁶ and he shall bring his guilt offering to* Yahweh for his sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋:* a female from the flock,* a ewe-lamb or _⌊a she-goat_⌋,* as a sin offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him for* his sin. ⁷ " 'If* _⌊he cannot afford a sheep_⌋,* he shall bring as his guilt offering for what he sinned two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* for Yahweh, one for a sin offering and one for a burnt offering. ⁸ He shall bring* them to the priest, and he shall present that which is for the sin offering first, and the priest* shall wring its head off _⌊at the back of its neck_⌋,* but* he must not sever it, ⁹ and he shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the sin offering's blood on the altar's side, and the leftover blood must be drained out on the altar's base; it is a sin offering. ¹⁰ The second* bird he must prepare as a burnt offering according to the regulation, and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋,* and he shall be forgiven. ¹¹ " 'But* if _⌊he cannot afford_⌋* two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋,* then,* because he has sinned, he shall bring as his offering a tenth of an* ephah of finely milled flour as a sin offering. He must not put* oil on it, nor should he put frankincense on it, because it is a sin offering. ¹² He shall bring* it to the priest, and the priest _⌊shall take a handful of it_⌋* for its token portion, and he shall turn it to smoke on the altar _⌊in addition to_⌋* the offerings made by fire to Yahweh; it is a sin offering. ¹³ Thus* the priest shall make atonement for him because of the sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋* _⌊in any of these_⌋,* and he shall be forgiven. It shall be* for the priest, like the grain offering.'" ¹⁴ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁵ "When a person* _⌊displays infidelity_⌋* and he sins in an unintentional wrong _⌊in any of_⌋* Yahweh's holy things, then* he shall bring his guilt offering to* Yahweh: a ram without defect from the flock* as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels* according to the sanctuary shekel. ¹⁶ And he shall make restitution for what he sinned _⌊because of_⌋* a holy thing and shall add one-fifth of _⌊its value_⌋* onto it and shall give it to the priest. The priest* shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he will be forgiven. ¹⁷ "If* a person* when he sins _⌊violates_⌋* one from all of Yahweh's commands that should not _⌊be violated_⌋,* but* he did not know, then* he is guilty and he shall bear his guilt. ¹⁸ He shall bring* to the priest a ram without defect from the flock* as a guilt offering by your valuation, and the priest shall make atonement for him because of his unintentional wrong (although* he himself did not know), and he will be forgiven. ¹⁹ It is a guilt offering; he certainly was guilty before Yahweh."

¹¹ the oath of Yahweh will be between the two of them concerning whether or not he has reached out his hand to his neighbor's possession, and its owner will accept this, and he will not make restitution.

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'If a person* sins by an unintentional wrong from any of Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* and he _⌊violates_⌋* _⌊any of them_⌋*—

¹⁵ "When a person* _⌊displays infidelity_⌋* and he sins in an unintentional wrong _⌊in any of_⌋* Yahweh's holy things, then* he shall bring his guilt offering to* Yahweh: a ram without defect from the flock* as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels* according to the sanctuary shekel.

¹⁷ "If* a person* when he sins _⌊violates_⌋* one from all of Yahweh's commands that should not _⌊be violated_⌋,* but* he did not know, then* he is guilty and he shall bear his guilt.

¹⁸ And if indeed some of the meat of his fellowship offerings' sacrifice is eaten on the third day, it will not be accepted; it will not be considered of benefit for the one who presented it—it shall be unclean meat, and the person* who eats it shall bear his guilt.

¹⁶ But* if he does not wash his garments* and he does not wash his body, then* he shall bear his guilt."

⁸ And the one who eats it shall bear his guilt, because he has profaned Yahweh's holiness, and that person shall be cut off from his people.

¹⁷ " 'As for* a man who takes his sister, his father's daughter or his mother's daughter, and he sees her nakedness and she herself sees his nakedness, it is a disgrace, and they shall be cut off _⌊before_⌋* the eyes of _⌊their people_⌋;* he has exposed his sister's nakedness—he must bear his guilt.

¹³ But the man who is clean and not on a journey, and he fails to observe the Passover, that person will be cut off from the people because he did not present the offering of Yahweh on its appointed time. That man will bear his guilt.

² And he said to his mother, "The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, and about which you also pronounced a curse _⌊in my hearing_⌋,* are with me; I took it." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by Yahweh."

³¹ If a man sins against his neighbor and he pronounces an oath against him to curse him, and the curse comes before your altar in this house,

¹⁶ Then the king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear that you shall not tell me anything but truth in the name of Yahweh?"

¹⁵ But the king said to him, "How many times shall I make you swear that you speak nothing except the truth in the name of Yahweh?"

⁴ For my iniquities have passed over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

²⁴ Being a partner with a thief is hating one's life;* a curse he will hear, but not disclose.

⁹ Or else I will be satisfied and will deny him and say "Who is Yahweh?" Or* I will be poor and will steal and profane the name of my God.

¹¹ From the trouble of his life* he will see;* he will be satisfied. In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,* and he is the one who will bear their iniquities.

⁴ Look! _⌊All lives are mine_⌋.* _⌊The lives of father and son alike are mine_⌋.* The person* sinning will die.

²⁰ The person,* the one sinning, will die. A son shall not bear the guilt of the father, and a father shall not bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him; the wickedness of the wicked* shall be on him.

⁶³ But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I put you under oath by the living God, that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God!"

²⁴ who himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we may die to sins and live to righteousness, by whose wounds you were healed.

¹³ " 'If* Israel's whole assembly did wrong unintentionally and the matter* was concealed from the assembly's eyes, and they acted* against _⌊any of_⌋* Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* so that* they incur guilt,

⁴ Or when a person* swears, speaking thoughtlessly with his lips, to do evil or to do good _⌊with regard to_⌋* anything that _⌊the person_⌋* in a sworn oath speaks thoughtlessly, but* _⌊he is unaware of it_⌋,* he will be guilty _⌊in any of_⌋* these.

²¹ And when a person* touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness or an unclean animal or any unclean detestable thing, and he eats from the meat of the fellowship offerings' sacrifice, which is for Yahweh, then* that person* shall be cut off from his people.'"

¹¹ And they shall be detestable to you; you must not eat from their meat, and you must detest their dead body.

²⁴ And by these you shall become unclean—anyone who touches their dead body shall become unclean until the evening, ²⁵ and anyone who carries their dead body must wash his garments, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ²⁶ " 'With regard to any animal that has a divided hoof but does not split the hoof, or* does not have a cud for chewing*—they are unclean for you; anyone who touches them shall become unclean. ²⁷ And anything that walks upon its paws among any of the animals* that walks on all fours—they are unclean for you; anyone who touches their dead body shall become unclean until the evening, ²⁸ and the one who carries their dead body must wash his garments, and he shall be unclean until the evening—they are unclean for you. ²⁹ " 'And these* are the unclean for you among the swarmers* that swarm on the land: the weasel and the mouse and the thorn-tailed lizard according to its kind, ³⁰ and the gecko and the land crocodile and the lizard and the sand lizard and the chameleon. ³¹ These are the unclean for you among all the swarmers; anyone who touches them at their death shall become unclean until the evening. ³² And anything on which _⌊one of them_⌋* falls at their death shall become unclean: any object of wood or garment or skin or sackcloth—any object that has performed work—must be placed in water, and it shall be unclean until the evening, and then it shall be clean. ³³ And any clay vessel* into which it falls shall become unclean, and you must break it. ³⁴ Any of the food that could be eaten on which water from such a vessel comes shall become unclean, and any liquid that could be drunk in any such vessel shall become unclean. ³⁵ And anything on which _⌊one of their dead bodies_⌋* falls shall become unclean: an oven or* a stove must be broken*—they are unclean and shall be unclean for you. ³⁶ Surely* a spring or* a cistern collecting water shall be clean, but that which touches their dead body shall become unclean. ³⁷ And when _⌊one of their dead bodies_⌋* falls on any _⌊seed for sowing_⌋,* it is clean. ³⁸ But* when water is put on the seed and _⌊one of their dead bodies_⌋* falls on it, it is unclean for you. ³⁹ " 'And when _⌊one of the animals_⌋* dies that is for you to eat, the one who touches its dead body shall become unclean until the evening. ⁴⁰ And the one who eats _⌊some of_⌋* its dead body must wash his garments, and he shall be unclean until the evening; and the one who carries its dead body must wash his garments, and he shall be unclean until the evening.

¹¹ " 'The one who touches a corpse of _⌊any person_⌋* will be unclean for seven days. ¹² He will purify himself on the third day, and on the seventh day he will be clean. If he does not purify himself on the third day, he will not be clean on the seventh day. ¹³ Anyone who touches a corpse, the person of a human being who died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of Yahweh, and that person will be cut off from Israel because the waters of impurity were not sprinkled on him. He will still be unclean, and uncleanness is on him. ¹⁴ " 'This is the law of a person who dies in a tent: everyone who comes into the tent and all who are in the tent will be unclean seven days. ¹⁵ Every container that is opened that does not have a lid cord* on it is unclean. ¹⁶ Anyone _⌊in the open field_⌋* who touches _⌊one who has been slain_⌋,* or a corpse, or a bone of a person, or a burial site, he will be unclean for seven days.

⁸ And also the pig _⌊because it has a division of the hoof_⌋* _⌊but does not chew the cud_⌋;* it is unclean for you; from their meat you shall not eat, and you shall not touch their _⌊carcasses_⌋.*

¹² Who can perceive his errors? Acquit me from hidden faults.

¹¹ Depart, depart, go out from there! You must not touch any unclean thing. Go out from the midst of it, keep clean, you who carry the vessels of Yahweh.

¹³ Then Haggai said, "If one who is unclean from contact with a corpse touches any of these, will it become unclean?" The priests answered, "Yes, it will be become unclean."

⁴⁴ Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, and the people who walk over them* do not know it!*

¹⁷ Therefore "come out from their midst and be separate," says the Lord, "and do not touch what is unclean,* and I will welcome you,*

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'When a woman becomes pregnant and she gives birth to a male,* then* she shall be unclean seven days—as in the time of her menstrual bleeding, she shall become unclean. ³ And on the eighth day his foreskin's flesh shall be circumcised. ⁴ And for thirty-three days she shall stay in the blood of her cleansing; she must not touch any holy object, and she may not come to the sanctuary until the fulfilling of the days of her cleansing. ⁵ But* if she gives birth to a female,* then* she shall be unclean for two weeks as in her menstruation, and for sixty-six days she shall stay _⌊through_⌋* the blood of her cleansing. ⁶ And at the fulfilling of the days of her cleansing, whether for a son or for a daughter, she must bring to the priest at the tent of assembly's entrance a _⌊yearling_⌋* male lamb as a burnt offering and _⌊young dove_⌋* or a turtledove as a sin offering. ⁷ And the priest shall present it _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and he shall make atonement for her, so that* she shall be clean from the flow of her blood. This is the regulation of childbearing* for the male* or for the female.* ⁸ And if _⌊she cannot afford_⌋* a sheep,* then* she shall take two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋*—one as a burnt offering and one as a sin offering—and the priest shall make atonement for her, so that* she shall be clean.'"

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and you shall say to them, '_⌊Any man_⌋* when a fluid discharge occurs* from his body, his fluid discharge is unclean. ³ And this becomes his uncleanness in his fluid discharge: whether his body secretes his fluid discharge or his body blocks his fluid discharge, it is his uncleanness. ⁴ Any bed upon which the person who discharges lies down becomes unclean, and any object upon which he sits becomes unclean. ⁵ And anyone who touches his bed must wash his garments and shall wash* himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until evening. ⁶ And the person who sits on the object upon which the person who discharges has sat must wash his garments, and he shall wash* himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ⁷ And the person who touches the body of the person who discharges must wash his garments, and he shall wash* himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ⁸ And if the person who discharges spits on one who is* clean, then* that one* shall wash is garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ⁹ And any saddle upon which the person who discharges rides becomes unclean. ¹⁰ And any person who touches anything that happened to be under him becomes unclean until the evening, and the person who carries them must wash his garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ¹¹ And anyone whom the person who discharges might touch _⌊without_⌋* rinsing off his hands with water shall wash his garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ¹² But* a clay vessel that the person who discharges touches must be broken, and any _⌊wood object_⌋* must be rinsed with water. ¹³ " 'And when the person who discharges becomes clean from his body fluid discharge, he shall count* for himself seven days for his cleansing; then* he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash his body with _⌊fresh_⌋* water, and he shall be clean. ¹⁴ Then* on the eighth day he shall take for himself two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋,* and he shall come _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh at the tent of assembly's entrance, and he shall give them to the priest. ¹⁵ And the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* one as a sin offering and _⌊the other_⌋* as a burnt offering, and so the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh from his body fluid discharge. ¹⁶ " 'And if an emission of semen goes out from anyone, then* he shall wash all of his body with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ¹⁷ And any garment and anything leather on which is an emission of semen shall be washed with water, and it shall be unclean until the evening. ¹⁸ If* there is a woman with whom a man lies down and there is an emission of semen, then* they shall wash themselves* with water, and they shall be unclean until the evening. ¹⁹ " 'And when a woman _⌊is menstruating_⌋,* her body fluid discharge occurs in* her body; for seven days she shall be in her menstruation, and any person who touches her shall become unclean until the evening. ²⁰ And anything upon which she lies down during her menstruation shall become unclean, and anything upon which she sits shall become unclean. ²¹ And any person who touches her bed must wash his garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ²² And any person who touches any object on which she sat must wash his garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ²³ And if it is on the bed or on the object on which she sits, at his touching it he becomes unclean until the evening. ²⁴ And if a man indeed lies with her and her menstruation occurs on him, then* he shall be unclean for seven days, and any bed on which he lies down becomes unclean. ²⁵ " 'And when a woman discharges a body fluid consisting of her blood for many days, but not at the time of her menstruation, or when she discharges in addition to* her menstruation, all the days of her unclean body fluid discharge she shall become unclean as in the days of her menstruation. ²⁶ Any bed on which she lies during all the days of her body fluid discharge shall become for her as her bed of menstruation, and any object on which she sits becomes unclean as her menstruation's uncleanness. ²⁷ And any person who touches them becomes unclean, and he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash himself* with water, and he shall be unclean until the evening. ²⁸ " 'And if she is clean from her body fluid discharge, then* she shall count for herself seven days, and afterward she becomes clean. ²⁹ And on the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋,* and she shall bring them to the priest at the tent of assembly's entrance. ³⁰ And the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* the one as a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* as a burnt offering, and so the priest shall make atonement for her _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh from her unclean body fluid discharge.' ³¹ "And you shall keep the _⌊Israelites_⌋* separate from their uncleanness so that they might not die because of* their uncleanness by their making my tabernacle, which is in their midst, unclean. ³² "This is the regulation of the one with the body fluid discharge and the one from whom an emission of semen goes out so that he becomes unclean by it ³³ and _⌊concerning_⌋* the menstruating woman in her bleeding* and the person who discharges his body fluid, for the male and for the female and for a man who lies with an unclean woman."

⁴ " '_⌊Anyone_⌋* from Aaron's offspring, if* he is afflicted with a skin disease or a fluid discharge, shall not eat in the sanctuary _⌊until_⌋* he is clean; and the one who touches any unclean person or a man from whom an emission of semen goes out, ⁵ or a man who touches any swarmer that is unclean for him or who touches a person who is unclean for him _⌊due to_⌋* whatever his uncleanness, ⁶ a person who touches such a thing* shall be unclean until the evening, and he shall not eat from the votive offerings, except* when he washes* his body with water

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and say* to them, 'When a man makes a vow according to your* proper value of persons to Yahweh, ³ if* your proper value is for a male* from _⌊twenty years of age_⌋* up to* _⌊sixty years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be fifty shekels of money according to the sanctuary's shekel. ⁴ But* if it is for a female, then* your proper value shall be thirty shekels. ⁵ And if from _⌊five years of age_⌋* up to* _⌊twenty years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be twenty shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female. ⁶ And if from _⌊a month of age_⌋* up to* _⌊five years of age_⌋,* then* your proper value shall be five shekels of money for the male, and your proper value for the female shall be three shekels of money. ⁷ And if from _⌊sixty years of age_⌋* and above: if a male, then* your proper value shall be fifteen shekels; and for the female, ten shekels. ⁸ But* if he is poorer than your proper value, then* he shall present himself _⌊before_⌋* the priest, and the priest shall set a value on him; the priest shall value him _⌊according to_⌋* what the person who made a vow _⌊can afford_⌋.* ⁹ " 'And if it is a domestic animal from which they present an offering for Yahweh, all that he gives from it for Yahweh shall be a holy object. ¹⁰ He shall not replace it, nor shall he exchange it, either good with bad or bad with good; and if he indeed exchanges a domestic animal with a domestic animal, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be a holy object_⌋.* ¹¹ But* if it is any unclean animal from which they may not present an offering for Yahweh, then* he shall present the animal _⌊before_⌋* the priest. ¹² And the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* as the priest sets your proper value, so it shall be. ¹³ And if he indeed wants to redeem it, then* he shall add a fifth of it onto your proper value. ¹⁴ " 'And if a man consecrates his house as a holy object for Yahweh, then* the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* just as the priest sets a value on it, so it shall remain. ¹⁵ But* if the one who consecrates it wants to redeem his house, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ " 'And if a man consecrates _⌊some of_⌋* his property's fields* for Yahweh, then* your proper value shall be _⌊in accordance with its seed requirements_⌋:* a homer of barley seed for fifty shekels of money. ¹⁷ If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value. ¹⁸ But* if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then* the priest shall calculate the money for him _⌊according to the number of years_⌋* that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. ¹⁹ And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall stand for* him. ²⁰ And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, ²¹ and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out* in the Jubilee, like a devoted* field; _⌊it shall be the priest's property_⌋.* ²² " 'And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired* field that is not the field of his inherited possession, ²³ then* the priest shall calculate for him the _⌊amount_⌋* of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh. ²⁴ In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is. ²⁵ And every proper value of yours shall be in the sanctuary's shekel—the shekel shall be twenty gerahs. ²⁶ " 'However, a man shall not consecrate a firstborn among livestock, which belongs as firstborn to Yahweh; whether an ox _⌊or_⌋* small livestock, it is for Yahweh. ²⁷ And if it is among the unclean animals, then* he shall ransom it according to your proper value, and he shall add a fifth of its value onto it; and if it is not redeemed, then* it shall be sold according to your proper value. ²⁸ However, anything devoted* that a man has devoted to Yahweh _⌊from all that he has_⌋,* from human or* animal, or* from the field of his property, may not be sold, and it may not be redeemed; anything devoted is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for Yahweh. ²⁹ Anyone devoted who is devoted from _⌊human beings_⌋* cannot be ransomed—he shall surely be put to death. ³⁰ " 'And any tithe of the land from the land's seed or from the fruit of the trees is for Yahweh; it is a holy object for Yahweh. ³¹ And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it. ³² As for* every tithe of cattle or* of the flock,* all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh. ³³ He shall not inspect between the good and the bad, and he shall not exchange it; but* if he indeed exchanges it, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be_⌋* a holy object—it shall not be redeemed.'" ³⁴ These are the commands that Yahweh commanded Moses for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋.*

⁶ "If _⌊she has a husband_⌋* while bound by her vows or a rash promise of her lips,

⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and Yahweh will forgive her.

¹⁴ And the men said to her, "_⌊Our lives for yours_⌋.* If you do not report this business of ours, _⌊we will show you loyalty and faithfulness_⌋* when Yahweh gives us the land."

¹⁵ And Joshua made peace with them, and _⌊he made a covenant with them_⌋* to allow them to live happily, and the leaders of the congregation swore an oath to them.

¹⁹ if you have acted in good faith* and sincerity with Jerub-Baal and his house this day, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.

³¹ whatever* comes out from the doors of my house to meet me when I return safely from the _⌊Ammonites_⌋* will be Yahweh's, and I will offer it as a burnt offering."

⁷ What will we do for them—for the ones being left over—for wives? For we have sworn by Yahweh not to give to them our daughters as wives."

¹⁸ But we cannot give them wives from our daughters." (For the _⌊Israelites_⌋* swore, saying, "Cursed be anyone who gives a wife to Benjamin.")

¹¹ She _⌊made a vow_⌋* and said: "O Yahweh of hosts, if you will look with compassion on the misery of your female servant, and will remember me, and not forget your female servant, and will give to your female servant _⌊a male child_⌋* then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and a razor will never pass over his head."*

²⁴ Now the men of Israel were hard pressed on that day, because Saul had made the army take an oath, saying, "Cursed be the man who eats any food until evening, when I will have avenged myself on my enemies!" So none of the army tasted any food. ²⁵ (Now all the people of the land used to go into the forest, for there was honey on the surface of the ground.) ²⁶ When the army came to the forest, look! There was honey flowing, but no one put his hand to his mouth, for the army was afraid of the solemn oath. ²⁷ However, Jonathan had not heard about the oath of his father with the army, so he extended the end of the staff which was in his hand, and he dipped it into the honeycomb.* Then he put his hand to his mouth and his eyes gleamed.* ²⁸ Then a man from the army informed him and said, "Your father made the army swear a solemn oath, saying, 'Cursed be the man who eats food today,'" so the army is exhausted.

²¹ So then, swear to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my _⌊descendants_⌋* after me and that you will not wipe out my name from my father's house." ²² So David swore this on oath to Saul, and Saul went to his house, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

²² _⌊May God severely punish the enemies of David_⌋* and again do thus if I leave behind _⌊anything that is his_⌋* until the morning, not even _⌊one male_⌋!"*

⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the sworn oath of Yahweh which was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

³¹ Then he said, "May God do to me and thus may he add, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on him today!"

² How he swore to Yahweh, he vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob: ³ "I will not enter into the tent of my house, I will not go up to the couch of my bed, ⁴ I will give no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, ⁵ until I find a place for Yahweh, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be quick to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth; therefore, let your words be few. ³ For a dream comes with many cares, and the voice of a fool with many words. ⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for _⌊he takes no pleasure_⌋* in fools. Fulfill what you vow! ⁵ It is better that you not vow than that you vow and not fulfill it. ⁶ Do not let your mouth lead your flesh into sin, and do not tell the messenger that it was a mistake. Why anger God at your words, so that he destroys the work of your hands?

¹⁸ And he despised the oath to break covenant. And, look, he gave his hand in pledge, and yet he did all of these things. He will not escape.' ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: '_⌊As I live_⌋,* _⌊surely_⌋* my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke I will return upon his head.

⁷ Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.

⁹ And although* the king was distressed, because of his oaths and his _⌊dinner guests_⌋* he commanded the request* to be granted.

²³ And he swore to her,* "Anything whatever you ask me for I will give you, up to half my kingdom!"

¹² And when it* was day, the Jews made a conspiracy and* bound themselves under a curse, saying they would* neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, "My son, please, give glory to Yahweh the God of Israel, and give him a doxology in court.* Tell me, please, what you have done; do not hide it from me."

¹¹ Now make a confession to Yahweh the God of your ancestors* and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign women." ¹² Then all the assembly answered with a great voice and said, "It is so. We must do according to your words.

²⁷ "He will sing to men, and he will say, 'I have sinned and have perverted what is right, and it was not paid back to me.

⁵ I made known my sin to you, and my iniquity I did not cover. I said, "I will confess concerning my transgressions to Yahweh," and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah

¹³ He who conceals his transgression will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes will obtain mercy.

¹³ Only acknowledge your guilt, that against Yahweh your God you have rebelled, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every leafy tree, and you have not obeyed my voice,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh."

⁴ And I prayed to Yahweh my God, and I made confession and I said, "O Lord, the great and awesome God, keeping the covenant and loyal love with those who love him and with those who keep his commandments,

¹⁰ For with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation.

⁸ If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our* sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

²⁰ He shall do* to the bull _⌊just as_⌋* he did to the sin offering's bull, so he must do to it. The priest* shall make atonement for them, and _⌊they will be forgiven_⌋.*

²⁸ or his sin he has _⌊committed_⌋* is made known to him, he shall bring* as his offering _⌊a female goat without defect_⌋* as his offering for his sin that he _⌊committed_⌋.*

³² " 'But* if he brings a lamb as his offering for a sin offering, he must bring a female without defect.

⁶ And he must bring as his guilt offering to Yahweh a ram without defect from the flock* by your valuation* as a guilt offering to the priest,

¹ " 'And this is the regulation of the guilt offering; it is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋.* ² In the place where they slaughter the burnt offering,* they must slaughter the guilt offering,* and he* must sprinkle its blood upon the altar all around. ³ And he must present all of its fat:* the fat tail and the fat that covers the inner parts,* ⁴ and the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and he must remove the lobe on the liver in addition to the kidneys. ⁵ And the priest shall turn it into smoke it on the altar as a food offering made by fire for Yahweh; it is a guilt offering. ⁶ Every male among the priests may eat it; it must be eaten in a holy place; it is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋.* ⁷ The instruction is _⌊the same for the guilt offering as for the sin offering_⌋;* _⌊it belongs to_⌋* the priest, who makes atonement with it.

¹² Then* the priest shall take the one male lamb, and he shall present it as a guilt offering, and the log of oil, and he shall wave them as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹³ And he shall slaughter the male lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering in the sanctuary's space,* because as the sin offering belongs to the priest, so also the guilt offering—_⌊it is a most holy thing_⌋.*

²¹ And he shall bring his guilt offering to Yahweh at the tent of assembly's entrance: a ram for a guilt offering. ²² And the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh with the ram of the guilt offering for his sin that he _⌊committed_⌋,* and so his sin that he _⌊committed_⌋* shall be forgiven him.

¹² He will rededicate to Yahweh the days of his separation* and bring a ram-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* as a guilt offering. The former days of his vow will fall away because his separation was defiled.

³⁹ And in the portico of the gate _⌊were two tables on each side_⌋* to slaughter the burnt offering on them and the sin offering and the guilt offering.

¹³ And he said to me, "The chambers of the north and the chambers of the south which are _⌊before_⌋* the courtyard, they _⌊are the holy chambers_⌋* in which the priests, who are near to Yahweh, will eat the _⌊most holy objects_⌋.* There they shall put the _⌊most holy objects_⌋,* and the grain offering and the sin offering and the guilt offering, for the place is holy.

¹⁴ " 'But if his offering for Yahweh is a burnt offering from the birds, then he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from _⌊the young doves_⌋.* ¹⁵ The priest* will present it at the altar and must wring off its head and turn it into smoke on the altar, and its blood will be drained out on the wall* of the altar.

⁸ He shall bring* them to the priest, and he shall present that which is for the sin offering first, and the priest* shall wring its head off _⌊at the back of its neck_⌋,* but* he must not sever it, ⁹ and he shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the sin offering's blood on the altar's side, and the leftover blood must be drained out on the altar's base; it is a sin offering.

¹¹ " 'But* if _⌊he cannot afford_⌋* two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋,* then,* because he has sinned, he shall bring as his offering a tenth of an* ephah of finely milled flour as a sin offering. He must not put* oil on it, nor should he put frankincense on it, because it is a sin offering.

³ Then* you* must speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'Take _⌊a he-goat_⌋* as a sin offering and a bull calf and a male sheep, _⌊yearlings_⌋* without defect,* as a burnt offering,

⁸ And if _⌊she cannot afford_⌋* a sheep,* then* she shall take two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋*—one as a burnt offering and one as a sin offering—and the priest shall make atonement for her, so that* she shall be clean.'"

²¹ "But* if he is poor and _⌊he cannot afford_⌋* it,* then* he shall take one male lamb for a guilt offering as a wave offering to make atonement for himself and one-tenth of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil, ²² and two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* and one shall be a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* a burnt offering.

³¹ even* what _⌊he can afford_⌋,* the one as a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* as a burnt offering in addition to the grain offering, and the priest shall make atonement for the one who presents himself for cleansing _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁴ Then* on the eighth day he shall take for himself two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋,* and he shall come _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh at the tent of assembly's entrance, and he shall give them to the priest. ¹⁵ And the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* one as a sin offering and _⌊the other_⌋* as a burnt offering, and so the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh from his body fluid discharge.

³⁰ And the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* the one as a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* as a burnt offering, and so the priest shall make atonement for her _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh from her unclean body fluid discharge.'

⁵ And he must take from the _⌊Israelites_⌋'* community two he-goats as a sin offering and one ram as a burnt offering.

¹⁶ Now after he* was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming* upon him.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

²⁴ and to offer a sacrifice according to what was stated in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons."*

¹² For if the eagerness is present _⌊according to what one has_⌋*, it is acceptable not _⌊according to what one does not have_⌋*.

⁶ you did not delight in whole burnt offerings and offerings for sins. ⁷ Then I said, 'Behold, I have come— in the roll of the book it is written about me— to do your will, O God.' ⁸ When he says above,
"Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and offerings for sin you did not want, nor did you delight in,"*
which are offered according to the law, ⁹ then he has said,
"Behold, I have come to do your will."*
He takes away the first in order to establish the second, ¹⁰ by which will we are made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers! Did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor! Are not the rich exploiting you and they themselves dragging you into the courts?

¹⁵ The priest* will present it at the altar and must wring off its head and turn it into smoke on the altar, and its blood will be drained out on the wall* of the altar.

¹⁷ Then* he must tear it apart by its wings but must not sever it; then* the priest will turn it into smoke on the altar. It is a burnt offering by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.'"

²⁵ who was handed over on account of our trespasses, and was raised up in the interest of our justification.*

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, in order that he could bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,

²² And take a bunch of hyssop and dip it into the blood that is in the basin and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts. And you will not go out, anyone from the doorway of his house, until morning. ²³ And Yahweh will go through to strike Egypt, and he will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and Yahweh will pass over the doorway and will not allow the destroyer to come to your houses to strike you.

⁵ He* must slaughter _⌊the young bull_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, then* Aaron's sons, the priests, will present the blood and sprinkle the blood all around the altar that is at the door of the tent of assembly.

⁷ The priest* shall put _⌊some of_⌋* the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense before Yahweh, which is in the tent of assembly, and all the rest* of the bull's blood he must pour out on the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the entrance of the tent of assembly.

¹⁸ He must put* _⌊some of_⌋* the blood on the altar's horns before Yahweh _⌊in the tent of assembly_⌋,* and all the rest* of the blood he must pour out on the base of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the tent of assembly's entrance.

²⁵ The priest* shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the sin offering's blood with his finger, and he shall put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and he must pour out the rest of* its blood on the base of the altar of the burnt offering.

³⁰ The priest* shall take _⌊some of_⌋* its blood with his finger, and he shall put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and he must pour out all the rest of* its blood on the altar's base.

³⁴ The priest* shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the sin offering's blood with his finger, and he shall put it on the horns of the altar of the burnt offering, and he must pour out all the rest* of its blood on the altar's base.

² In the place where they slaughter the burnt offering,* they must slaughter the guilt offering,* and he* must sprinkle its blood upon the altar all around.

²¹ Yahweh was willing for the sake of his righteousness; he showed his teaching to be great and proved it to be glorious.

¹⁰ For it was fitting for him for whom are all things and through whom are all things in bringing many sons to glory to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings.

²⁴ and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and _⌊to the sprinkled blood_⌋* that speaks better than Abel's does.

¹⁴ " 'But if his offering for Yahweh is a burnt offering from the birds, then he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from _⌊the young doves_⌋.* ¹⁵ The priest* will present it at the altar and must wring off its head and turn it into smoke on the altar, and its blood will be drained out on the wall* of the altar. ¹⁶ He* must remove its crop with its plumage and throw it to the east beside the altar on the place of the fatty ashes. ¹⁷ Then* he must tear it apart by its wings but must not sever it; then* the priest will turn it into smoke on the altar. It is a burnt offering by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.'"

²⁶ He* must turn all of its fat into smoke on the altar like the fat of the fellowship offerings' sacrifice, and the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊because of_⌋* his sin, and _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋.*

³¹ He* must remove all of its fat _⌊just as_⌋* the fat was removed from* the fellowship offerings' sacrifice, and the priest shall turn it into smoke on the altar as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. The priest* shall make atonement for him, and _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋.*

³⁵ He must remove* all of its fat _⌊just as_⌋* the lamb's fat from the fellowship offerings' sacrifice was removed, and the priest shall turn them into smoke on the altar upon Yahweh's offerings made by fire; and the priest shall make atonement for him because of* his sin that he _⌊committed_⌋,* and _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋.'"*

⁶ and he shall bring his guilt offering to* Yahweh for his sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋:* a female from the flock,* a ewe-lamb or _⌊a she-goat_⌋,* as a sin offering, and the priest shall make atonement for him for* his sin.

¹³ Thus* the priest shall make atonement for him because of the sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋* _⌊in any of these_⌋,* and he shall be forgiven. It shall be* for the priest, like the grain offering.'"

¹⁶ And he shall make restitution for what he sinned _⌊because of_⌋* a holy thing and shall add one-fifth of _⌊its value_⌋* onto it and shall give it to the priest. The priest* shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.

¹¹ And not only this, but also we are boasting in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

² and live in love, just as also Christ loved us, and gave himself for us an offering and sacrifice to God for a fragrant smell.*

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋*.

² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁸ And when they measured with the omer, the one gathering more had no surplus, and the one gathering less had no lack; they gathered _⌊each according to what he could eat_⌋.*

¹ " 'When a person* brings a grain offering to Yahweh, his offering must be finely milled flour, and he must pour out oil on it and place frankincense on it. ² And he shall bring it to the sons of Aaron, the priests, and he* shall take _⌊his handful from its finely milled flour_⌋* and from its oil in addition to all its frankincense. The priest* shall turn its token portion into smoke on the altar as an offering made by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.

⁴ " 'But if you bring a grain offering of something oven-baked, it must be of finely milled flour as ring-shaped unleavened bread mixed with oil or wafers of unleavened bread smeared with oil. ⁵ If your offering is a grain offering baked on a* flat baking pan, it must be finely milled flour, unleavened bread mixed with oil;

¹⁵ And you shall put oil on it and place frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. ¹⁶ The* priest shall turn into smoke its token portion from its coarsely crushed grain together with all of its frankincense—it is an offering made by fire for Yahweh.'"

⁹ and he shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the sin offering's blood on the altar's side, and the leftover blood must be drained out on the altar's base; it is a sin offering.

¹² He shall bring* it to the priest, and the priest _⌊shall take a handful of it_⌋* for its token portion, and he shall turn it to smoke on the altar _⌊in addition to_⌋* the offerings made by fire to Yahweh; it is a sin offering.

¹⁵ he will bring his wife to the priest. And he will bring her offering for her, one-tenth of an ephah of flour. He will not pour oil on it, and he will not put frankincense on it because it is a grain offering of jealousy, a grain offering of remembering,* a reminding of guilt.

¹³ His offering was one plate of silver—its weight was one hundred and thirty shekels—and one silver bowl weighing seventy shekels according to the sanctuary shekel, _⌊both of them_⌋* filled with finely milled flour mixed with oil as a grain offering;

⁴ And he stared at him and became terrified and* said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and your charitable deeds have gone up for a memorial offering before God.

¹³ Do you not know that those performing the holy services eat the things from the temple, and those attending to the altar have a share with the altar?

¹ " 'When a person* sins in that* he hears the utterance of a curse and he is a witness or he sees or he knows, if he does not make it known, then* he shall bear his guilt. ² Or if a person* touches anything unclean, _⌊whether_⌋* an unclean wild* animal's dead body or an unclean domestic animal's dead body or an unclean swarmer's dead body, but* _⌊he is unaware of it_⌋,* he is unclean and he is guilty.

¹⁸ He shall bring* to the priest a ram without defect from the flock* as a guilt offering by your valuation, and the priest shall make atonement for him because of his unintentional wrong (although* he himself did not know), and he will be forgiven.

¹⁷ "Why did you not eat the sin offering on the sanctuary's site, because it is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋?* And he gave it to you to remove the community's guilt, to make atonement for them _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁸ Look, its blood was not brought _⌊inside the sanctuary_⌋.* Certainly you should have eaten it in the sanctuary, as I commanded."

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Tell* Aaron and his sons* that* they must deal respectfully with the _⌊Israelites_⌋'* votive offerings, and they must not profane my holy name, which they are consecrating to me; I am Yahweh. ³ "Say to them, 'Throughout your generations, any man from any of your offspring who comes near the votive offerings that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* consecrate to Yahweh with* his uncleanness on him, that person shall be cut off* from _⌊before me_⌋;* I am Yahweh. ⁴ " '_⌊Anyone_⌋* from Aaron's offspring, if* he is afflicted with a skin disease or a fluid discharge, shall not eat in the sanctuary _⌊until_⌋* he is clean; and the one who touches any unclean person or a man from whom an emission of semen goes out, ⁵ or a man who touches any swarmer that is unclean for him or who touches a person who is unclean for him _⌊due to_⌋* whatever his uncleanness, ⁶ a person who touches such a thing* shall be unclean until the evening, and he shall not eat from the votive offerings, except* when he washes* his body with water ⁷ and _⌊the sun sets_⌋,* and he shall be clean; then* afterward he may eat from the votive offerings, because it is his food. ⁸ He shall not eat a naturally dead body or* a mangled carcass, _⌊so that he becomes unclean_⌋* by it; I am Yahweh. ⁹ " 'And they shall keep my obligation, and they shall not incur guilt because of it, so that* they die through it, because they have profaned it; I am Yahweh who consecrates them. ¹⁰ " '_⌊No stranger shall eat_⌋* the votive offering; nor shall a temporary resident with* a priest or* a hired worker eat the votive offering. ¹¹ But* a priest, if with his money he buys a person as _⌊his possession_⌋,* that one may eat it, and the descendants of his house themselves may eat his food. ¹² And a priest's daughter, when _⌊she marries a layman_⌋,* she herself may not eat _⌊the votive offering_⌋.* ¹³ But* a priest's daughter, when she becomes a widow or* divorced or there is no offspring for her, and she returns to her father's house as in her childhood, she may eat from her father's food, but* _⌊no layman may eat it_⌋.* ¹⁴ And if a man eats the votive offering unintentionally, then* he shall add to it a fifth of it, and he shall give the votive offering to the priest. ¹⁵ And they shall not profane the _⌊Israelites_⌋'* votive offerings that they present to Yahweh, ¹⁶ and so cause them, by their eating their votive offerings, to bear guilt requiring a guilt offering, because I am Yahweh, who consecrates them.'"

⁵ "And you shall take finely milled flour, and you shall bake with it twelve ring-shaped bread cakes: each one shall be two-tenths of an ephah. ⁶ And you shall place them in two rows, six to the row, on the pure gold* table _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ⁷ And you shall put pure frankincense on each* row so that* it shall be for the bread as a memorial offering, an offering made by fire for Yahweh. ⁸ _⌊On every Sabbath_⌋* he shall arrange it in rows _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh continually; they are from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* as an everlasting* covenant. ⁹ And it shall be for Aaron and for his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, because it is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for him from Yahweh's offerings made by fire—a _⌊lasting rule_⌋."*

⁹ " 'And if it is a domestic animal from which they present an offering for Yahweh, all that he gives from it for Yahweh shall be a holy object. ¹⁰ He shall not replace it, nor shall he exchange it, either good with bad or bad with good; and if he indeed exchanges a domestic animal with a domestic animal, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be a holy object_⌋.* ¹¹ But* if it is any unclean animal from which they may not present an offering for Yahweh, then* he shall present the animal _⌊before_⌋* the priest. ¹² And the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* as the priest sets your proper value, so it shall be. ¹³ And if he indeed wants to redeem it, then* he shall add a fifth of it onto your proper value. ¹⁴ " 'And if a man consecrates his house as a holy object for Yahweh, then* the priest shall set a value on it, _⌊either good or bad_⌋;* just as the priest sets a value on it, so it shall remain. ¹⁵ But* if the one who consecrates it wants to redeem his house, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall be his. ¹⁶ " 'And if a man consecrates _⌊some of_⌋* his property's fields* for Yahweh, then* your proper value shall be _⌊in accordance with its seed requirements_⌋:* a homer of barley seed for fifty shekels of money. ¹⁷ If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value. ¹⁸ But* if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then* the priest shall calculate the money for him _⌊according to the number of years_⌋* that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. ¹⁹ And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall stand for* him. ²⁰ And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, ²¹ and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out* in the Jubilee, like a devoted* field; _⌊it shall be the priest's property_⌋.* ²² " 'And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired* field that is not the field of his inherited possession, ²³ then* the priest shall calculate for him the _⌊amount_⌋* of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh. ²⁴ In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is. ²⁵ And every proper value of yours shall be in the sanctuary's shekel—the shekel shall be twenty gerahs. ²⁶ " 'However, a man shall not consecrate a firstborn among livestock, which belongs as firstborn to Yahweh; whether an ox _⌊or_⌋* small livestock, it is for Yahweh. ²⁷ And if it is among the unclean animals, then* he shall ransom it according to your proper value, and he shall add a fifth of its value onto it; and if it is not redeemed, then* it shall be sold according to your proper value. ²⁸ However, anything devoted* that a man has devoted to Yahweh _⌊from all that he has_⌋,* from human or* animal, or* from the field of his property, may not be sold, and it may not be redeemed; anything devoted is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for Yahweh. ²⁹ Anyone devoted who is devoted from _⌊human beings_⌋* cannot be ransomed—he shall surely be put to death. ³⁰ " 'And any tithe of the land from the land's seed or from the fruit of the trees is for Yahweh; it is a holy object for Yahweh. ³¹ And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it. ³² As for* every tithe of cattle or* of the flock,* all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh. ³³ He shall not inspect between the good and the bad, and he shall not exchange it; but* if he indeed exchanges it, then* _⌊it and its substitution shall be_⌋* a holy object—it shall not be redeemed.'"

⁸ But if the man does not have a redeemer to make restitution to him for the reparation, the reparation is to be given to Yahweh for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement by which atonement is made for him.

⁹ This will be for you from the sanctuary of the holy things from the fire; all of their offerings, from every grain offering, from every sin offering, and from every guilt offering which they will bring to me is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for you and your sons. ¹⁰ You will eat it in the most holy place;* every male will eat it. It will be a holy object to you. ¹¹ This is also for you: the contribution of their gift of the wave offerings of the children Israel. I have given them to you and your sons and your daughters with you as an eternal decree; whoever is clean in your house may eat it. ¹² All the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and their best grain that they have given to Yahweh, I have given them to you. ¹³ The firstfruits of all that is in their land that they present to Yahweh will be for you; whoever is clean in your house may eat it. ¹⁴ All consecrated possessions* in Israel will be for you. ¹⁵ All the first offspring of a womb of any creature that they offer to Yahweh, whether human or animal, will be yours; you will surely redeem the firstborn of the human and the unclean firstborn of the animal. ¹⁶ As to their price of redemption, from _⌊a one-month-old_⌋* you will redeem them according to your proper value, five shekels of silver according to the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerah. ¹⁷ Only the firstborn of an ox or the firstborn of a sheep or the firstborn of a goat you will not redeem; they are holy. Their blood you will sprinkle over the altar, and their fat you will turn into smoke as an offering made by fire, a fragrance of appeasement for Yahweh. ¹⁸ But their flesh will be for you like the breast section of the wave offering, and it will be for you like the right upper thigh. ¹⁹ All the contributions of holiness that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* offer to Yahweh I have given to you and your sons and your daughters with you as an eternal decree; it is an eternal covenant of salt _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh to you and your offspring with you." ²⁰ Then Yahweh said to Aaron, "You will not receive an inheritance in their land, and there will not be a plot of ground for you in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ²¹ "Behold, I have given to the descendants* of Levi every tithe in Israel as an inheritance in return for their service, which they are doing, the work of the tent of assembly. ²² The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will not come near again to the tent of assembly, or _⌊they will bear sin_⌋* and die. ²³ The Levites* will perform the service of the tent of assembly, and they will bear their guilt, an eternal decree for all your generations. But they will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* ²⁴ because the tithes* of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that are _⌊offered_⌋* to Yahweh as a contribution, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance; therefore I said to them, 'They will not receive an inheritance in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"* ²⁵ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁶ "You will speak to the Levites and say to them, 'When you receive the tithe from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* that I have given to you from them for your inheritance, _⌊you will present_⌋* a contribution from it to Yahweh, a tithe from a tithe. ²⁷ Your contribution will be credited to you like the grain from the threshing floor and like the produce from the press. ²⁸ So _⌊you will present_⌋* your own contribution to Yahweh from all your tithes that you receive from the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* from it you will give the contribution of Yahweh to Aaron the priest. ²⁹ From all your gifts _⌊you will present_⌋* every contribution of Yahweh, from all its fat, the part that is sacred.' ³⁰ You will say to them, 'When _⌊you are presenting_⌋* its fat, the rest will be credited to the Levites like a yield of the threshing floor and like a yield from the press. ³¹ You may eat it anywhere, you and your household, because it is a wage in return for your service in the tent of assembly. ³² You will not bear any sin because _⌊you have presented_⌋* its fat; you will not defile the holy objects of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* or you will die.'"

⁵ _⌊But only_⌋* to the place that Yahweh your God will choose from all of your tribes to place his name there as his dwelling shall you seek, and there you shall go. ⁶ And you shall bring there your burnt offerings and your sacrifices and your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋* and your votive gifts and your freewill offerings and the firstling of your herd and your flock. ⁷ And you shall eat there _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice _⌊in all your endeavors_⌋,* you and your family in which Yahweh your God has blessed you. ⁸ "You must not do just as we are doing here _⌊today_⌋,* _⌊each according to all that is right in his eyes_⌋.* ⁹ For you have not come up to now to the resting place and to the inheritance that Yahweh your God is giving to you. ¹⁰ But you will cross the Jordan, and you will settle in the land that Yahweh your God is giving you as an inheritance, and he will give rest to you from all your enemies from all around, and you will live securely, ¹¹ _⌊and then_⌋* at the place that Yahweh your God will choose, to let his name dwell there, there you shall bring all the things I am commanding you, your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and _⌊your donations_⌋,* and all of the choice things, your votive gifts that you vow to Yahweh. ¹² And you shall rejoice _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, you and your sons and your daughters and your slaves and your slave women and the Levite who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* because there is not for him a plot of ground and an inheritance with you.

²⁶ Only your holy objects _⌊that are yours_⌋* and your votive gifts you must carry and you must bring to the place that Yahweh will choose.

¹⁹ "Every firstling male that is born of your herd and of your flock you shall consecrate to Yahweh your God; you shall not do work with the firstling of your ox, and you shall not shear the firstling of your flock. ²⁰ Rather _⌊before Yahweh_⌋* your God you shall eat it year by year at the place Yahweh will choose, you and your household.

¹ "_⌊And then_⌋* when you come to the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and you settle in it, ² then you shall take from the firstfruit of all the fruit of the ground that you harvest from your land that Yahweh your God is giving to you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place that Yahweh your God will choose to make his name to dwell there. ³ And you shall go to the priest who is in office in those days, and you shall say, 'I declare _⌊today_⌋* to Yahweh your God that I have come into the land that Yahweh swore to our ancestors* to give to us.' ⁴ Then the priest takes the basket from your hand and places it _⌊before_⌋* the altar of Yahweh your God. ⁵ And _⌊you shall declare_⌋* and you shall say _⌊before_⌋* your God, 'My ancestor* was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt, and there he dwelt as an alien _⌊few in number_⌋,* and there he became a great nation, mighty and numerous. ⁶ And the Egyptians treated us badly, and they oppressed us and imposed on us hard labor. ⁷ And we cried to Yahweh, the God of our ancestors,* and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression. ⁸ And Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and with wonders. ⁹ And he brought us to this place and gave to us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. ¹⁰ And now, look, I am bringing* the firstfruit of the fruit of the ground that you gave to me, Yahweh,' and you shall place it _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, and you shall bow down _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God. ¹¹ And you shall celebrate with all of the bounty that Yahweh your God gave to you and to your family, you and the Levite and the alien who is in your midst. ¹² "When you are finished _⌊giving a tithe_⌋,* all of the tithe of your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, then you shall give to the Levite, to the alien, to the orphan, and to the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and they may be satisfied. ¹³ And you shall say _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God, 'I have removed the sacred portion from the* house and, moreover, I have given it to the Levite and to the alien and to the orphan and to the widow according to all your commandment that you commanded me; I have not transgressed any of your commandments, and I have not forgotten any of them. ¹⁴ I have not eaten during my time of mourning, and I have not removed anything from it while being unclean, and I have not offered _⌊any of it_⌋* to someone who has died. I have listened to the voice of Yahweh my God; I have done all that you commanded me to do. ¹⁵ Look down from the dwelling place of your holiness, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the land that you have given to us, as you swore to our ancestors,* a land flowing with milk and honey.'

¹⁹ _⌊They pledged themselves_⌋* to put away their wives, and their guilt offering was a ram of the flock for their guilt.

¹ * " 'If a man steals an ox or small livestock and slaughters it or sells it, he will make restitution with five cattle in place of the ox and with four sheep or goats in place of the small livestock.

³ (If the sun has risen over him, there is bloodguilt for him. He will make full restitution. If _⌊he does not have enough_⌋,* he will be sold for his theft. ⁴ If indeed the stolen item is found _⌊in his possession_⌋* alive, from ox to donkey to small livestock, he will make double restitution.

¹⁰ The second* bird he must prepare as a burnt offering according to the regulation, and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋,* and he shall be forgiven.

⁴ _⌊and when_⌋* he sins and is guilty, then* he shall bring back _⌊the things he had stolen_⌋* or _⌊what he had extorted_⌋* or _⌊something with which he had been entrusted_⌋* or the lost property that he had found, ⁵ or _⌊regarding_⌋* anything about which he has sworn _⌊falsely_⌋,* then* he shall repay it _⌊according to_⌋* its value and shall add one-fifth of its value to it—he must give it _⌊to whom it belongs_⌋* on the day of his guilt offering.

¹⁴ And if a man eats the votive offering unintentionally, then* he shall add to it a fifth of it, and he shall give the votive offering to the priest.

¹³ And if he indeed wants to redeem it, then* he shall add a fifth of it onto your proper value.

¹⁵ But* if the one who consecrates it wants to redeem his house, then* he shall add a fifth of your proper value's money onto it, and it shall be his.

²⁷ And if it is among the unclean animals, then* he shall ransom it according to your proper value, and he shall add a fifth of its value onto it; and if it is not redeemed, then* it shall be sold according to your proper value.

³¹ And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it.

⁴ More numerous than the hairs of my head are those hating me without a cause. Those who are destroying me—my enemies wrongfully*— are mighty. What I did not steal, I then must restore.

⁸ And Zacchaeus stopped and* said to the Lord, "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am paying it* back four times as much!"

²⁰ but to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem and all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, I proclaimed that they should repent and turn to God, doing deeds worthy of repentance.

¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled sanctify them for the ritual purity of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to serve the living God?

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one, ² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'If a person* sins by an unintentional wrong from any of Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* and he _⌊violates_⌋* _⌊any of them_⌋*— ³ if the anointed priest sins, _⌊bringing guilt on the people_⌋,* then,* concerning the sin that he has _⌊committed_⌋,* he shall bring _⌊a young bull_⌋* without defect for Yahweh as a sin offering. ⁴ He shall bring* the bull to the tent of assembly's entrance before Yahweh, place* his hand on the bull's head, and slaughter the bull before Yahweh.

²² " 'When a leader sins and commits* an unintentional wrong against _⌊any of_⌋* the commands of Yahweh his God that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* so that* he incurs guilt,

²⁷ " 'If* _⌊anyone_⌋* of the people of the land sins by an unintentional wrong by _⌊violating_⌋* one of Yahweh's commands that should not be _⌊violated_⌋,* so that* he incurs guilt,

⁴⁸ But the one who did not know and did things deserving blows _⌊will be given a light beating_⌋.* And from everyone to whom much has been given, much will be demanded, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will ask him for even more.

²³ But the one who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not do so from faith, and everything that is not from faith is sin.

⁴ " 'He* must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering and it will be accepted* for him in order to make atonement for him.

¹⁵ "When a person* _⌊displays infidelity_⌋* and he sins in an unintentional wrong _⌊in any of_⌋* Yahweh's holy things, then* he shall bring his guilt offering to* Yahweh: a ram without defect from the flock* as a guilt offering by your valuation in silver shekels* according to the sanctuary shekel. ¹⁶ And he shall make restitution for what he sinned _⌊because of_⌋* a holy thing and shall add one-fifth of _⌊its value_⌋* onto it and shall give it to the priest. The priest* shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.

⁶ And he must bring as his guilt offering to Yahweh a ram without defect from the flock* by your valuation* as a guilt offering to the priest, ⁷ and the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and he shall be forgiven _⌊anything_⌋* from all that he might do _⌊by which he might incur guilt_⌋."*

⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and human beings, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time,

² Shecaniah son of Jehiel, of the sons of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, "We ourselves have broken faith with our God and have married foreign women from the peoples of the land, and even now there is hope for Israel in spite of this.

⁴ Against you, only you, I have sinned and have done this evil* in your eyes, so that you are correct when you speak, you are blameless when you judge.

⁸ Will a human dare to rob God? Yet you are robbing me! And you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In the tithes and the contributions!

¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as if* God were imploring you through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ He made the one who did not know sin to be sin on our behalf, in order that we could become the righteousness of God in him.
