¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ.* ² Just as it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
"Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, ³ the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!'"* ⁴ John was there baptizing in the wilderness, proclaiming* a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. ⁵ And all the Judean region and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. ⁶ And John was dressed in camel's hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. ⁷ And he was preaching, saying, "One who is more powerful than I is coming after me, of whom I am not worthy to bend down and* untie the strap of his sandals. ⁸ I baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." ⁹ And it happened that in those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. ¹⁰ And immediately as he* was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens being split apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. ¹¹ And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." ¹² And immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness. ¹³ And he was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. ¹⁴ And after* John _⌊had been taken into custody_⌋,* Jesus went into Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God ¹⁵ and saying, "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe in the gospel!" ¹⁶ And as he* was passing by along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting a net* into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "_⌊Follow_⌋* me and I will make you become fishers of people." ¹⁸ And immediately they left their nets and* followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, and they were in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and* went away after him. ²¹ And they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.* ²² And they were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like the scribes. ²³ And so then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, ²⁴ saying, "_⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" ²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!" ²⁶ And after* convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, the unclean spirit came out of him. ²⁷ And they were all amazed, so that they began to discuss with one another, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits and they obey him." ²⁸ And the report about him then went out everywhere in the whole surrounding region of Galilee. ²⁹ And so then he departed from the synagogue and* came into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. ³⁰ Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying down, suffering with a fever, and at once they told him about her. ³¹ And he came and* raised her up by* taking hold of her* hand, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. ³² Now when it* was evening, when the sun had set, they began bringing* to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* and those who were demon-possessed. ³³ And the whole town was gathered together at the door. ³⁴ And he healed many _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and expelled many demons. And he did not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. ³⁵ And getting up early in the morning while it was very dark, he departed and went to a deserted place, and there he was praying. ³⁶ And Simon and those who were with him searched diligently for him. ³⁷ And they found him and said to him, "Everyone is looking for you!" ³⁸ And he said to them, "Let us go elsewhere, into the neighboring rural towns, so that I can preach there also, because I have come out for this very reason." ³⁹ And he went into all Galilee preaching in their synagogues and expelling demons. ⁴⁰ And a leper came to him, entreating him and kneeling down, saying* to him, "If you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ⁴¹ And becoming angry,* he stretched out his hand and* touched him*, and said to him, "I am willing; be made clean." ⁴² And immediately the leprosy went away from him and he was made clean. ⁴³ And warning him sternly, he sent him away at once. ⁴⁴ And he said to him, "See to it that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and bring for your cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. ⁴⁵ But he went out and* began to proclaim it* freely and to spread abroad the account, so that he was no longer able to enter publicly into a town. But he was staying outside in deserted places, and they were coming to him from all directions.

⁷ I will tell the decree; Yahweh said to me: "You are my son; today I have begotten you.

¹⁷ And behold, there was* a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

³ And the tempter approached and* said to him, "If you are the Son of God, order that these stones become bread."

³³ So those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God!"

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

² just as those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word from the beginning passed on to us, ³ it seemed best to me also—because I* have followed all things carefully from the beginning—to write them* down in orderly sequence for you, most excellent Theophilus,

³⁵ And the angel answered and* said to her,
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the one to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.

¹⁰ And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you of great joy which will be for all the people: ¹¹ that today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh and took up residence among us, and we saw his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.

³⁴ And I have seen and testify that this one is the Chosen One* of God.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the king of Israel!"

¹⁶ For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

⁶⁹ And we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

³¹ but these things are recorded in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by* believing you may have life in his name.

¹ I produced the former account, O Theophilus, about all _⌊that_⌋* Jesus began to do and to teach, ² until the day he was taken up, after he* had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen,

¹ Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, ² which he promised previously through his prophets in the holy scriptures, ³ concerning his Son, who was born _⌊a descendant_⌋* of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared Son of God in power according to _⌊the Holy Spirit_⌋* by the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ our Lord,

³ For what was impossible for the law, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did. By* sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

³² Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, together with him, freely give us all things?

¹ Although* God spoke long ago in many parts* and in many ways to the fathers by the prophets, ² in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the world,*

¹ What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched, concerning the word of life— ² and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was revealed to us— ³ what we have seen and heard, we announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

⁷ Then I said, "Look, I come. In the scroll of the book it is written concerning me:

¹ "Look! I am going to send my messenger,* and he will prepare* the way _⌊before me_⌋.* And the Lord whom you are seeking will come suddenly to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you are taking pleasure—look!—he is about to come," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁵ So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet,

¹ Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the Judean wilderness ² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!" ³ For this is the one who was spoken about by the prophet Isaiah, saying,
"The voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.'"* ⁴ Now John himself had his clothing made from camel's hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan were going out to him, ⁶ and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they* confessed their sins. ⁷ But when he* saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? ⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance! ⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ¹⁰ Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

¹⁰ It is this man about whom it is written:
'Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'*

²⁴ The Son of Man is going just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if that man had not been born."

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me during this night, for it is written,
'I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'*

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he must never drink wine or beer, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while he is* still in his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he will go on before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to prepare for the Lord a people made ready."

⁷⁰ just as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from earliest times—

⁷⁶ And so you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go on before the Lord to prepare his ways,

² in the time of the high priest Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ And he went into all the surrounding region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, ⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,
"The voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight! ⁵ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be leveled, and the crooked will become straight, and the rough road will become* smooth, ⁶ and all flesh will see the salvation of God.'"* ⁷ Therefore he was saying to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? ⁸ Therefore produce fruit worthy of repentance! And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ⁹ And even now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." ¹⁰ And the crowds were asking him, saying, "What then should we do?" ¹¹ And he answered and* said to them, "The one who has two tunics must share with the one who does not have one,* and the one who has food must do likewise." ¹² And tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, "Teacher, what should we do?" ¹³ And he said to them, "Collect no more than _⌊what you are ordered to_⌋."* ¹⁴ And those who served in the army were also asking him, saying, "What should we also do?" And he said to them, "Extort from no one, and do not blackmail anyone,* and be content with your pay." ¹⁵ And while* the people were waiting expectantly and all were pondering in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he might be the Christ,* ¹⁶ John answered them all, saying, "I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than I am is coming, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

²⁷ It is this man about whom it is written:
'Behold, I am sending my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'* ²⁸ I tell you, there is no one greater among those born of women than John, but the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

³¹ And taking aside the twelve, he said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written by the prophets with reference to the Son of Man will be accomplished.

³ A voice is calling in the wilderness, "Clear the way of Yahweh! Make a highway smooth in the desert for our God! ⁴ Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill shall become low, And the rough ground shall be like a plain, and the rugged ground like a valley-plain. ⁵ And the glory of Yahweh shall be revealed, and all _⌊humankind_⌋* together shall see it,
for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

³ For this is the one who was spoken about by the prophet Isaiah, saying,
"The voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.'"* ⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah,
"The voice of one crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight! ⁵ Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be leveled, and the crooked will become straight, and the rough road will become* smooth, ⁶ and all flesh will see the salvation of God.'"*

¹⁵ John testified about him and cried out, saying, "This one was he about whom I said, 'The one who comes after me is ahead of me, because he existed before me.'"

¹⁹ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent* priests and Levites from Jerusalem so that they could ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ And he confessed—and he did not deny, and confessed—"I am not the Christ!" ²¹ And they asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not!" "Are you the Prophet?"* And he answered, "No!" ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you, so that we can give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said,
"I am 'the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord," '*
just as Isaiah the prophet said." ²⁴ (And they had been sent from the Pharisees.) ²⁵ And they asked him and said to him, "Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water. In your midst stands one whom you do not know— ²⁷ the one who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy _⌊to untie_⌋* the strap of his sandal!" ²⁸ These things took place in Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This one is the one about whom I said, 'After me is coming a man who is ahead of me, because he existed before me.' ³¹ And I did not know him, but in order that he could be revealed to Israel, because of this I came baptizing with water." ³² And John testified, saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and remaining upon him. ³³ And I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water, that one said to me, 'The one upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him—this one is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and testify that this one is the Chosen One* of God.

²⁸ You yourselves testify about me that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I am sent before that one.' ²⁹ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices _⌊greatly_⌋* because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is complete. ³⁰ It is necessary for that one to increase, but for me to decrease." ³¹ The one who comes from above is over all. The one who is from the earth is from the earth and speaks from the earth; the one who comes from heaven is over all. ³² What he has seen and heard, this he testifies, and no one accepts his testimony. ³³ The one who accepts his testimony has attested that God is true. ³⁴ For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit by measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who disobeys the Son will not see life—but the wrath of God remains on him.*

¹¹ I baptize you with water for repentance, but the one who comes after me is more powerful than I am, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

⁷⁷ to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins,

² in the time of the high priest Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ And he went into all the surrounding region of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,

²³ Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and they were coming and were being baptized.

³⁷ you know the thing that happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism that John proclaimed:

²⁴ Before _⌊his coming_⌋* John had publicly proclaimed* a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ But while John was completing his* mission, he said, 'What do you suppose me to be? I am not he! But behold, one is coming after me of whom I am not worthy to untie the sandals of his* feet!'

³ And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into the baptism of John." ⁴ And Paul said, "John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the one who was to come after him—that is, in Jesus."

¹⁶ And now why are you delaying? Get up, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name!'

⁴⁰ " 'But* when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors* in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility— ⁴¹ I myself* also* went against them in hostility, and I brought them into the land of their enemies—or if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and then they pay for their guilt, ⁴² I will remember* my covenant with Jacob; and I will remember also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.

¹⁹ And Joshua said to Achan, "My son, please, give glory to Yahweh the God of Israel, and give him a doxology in court.* Tell me, please, what you have done; do not hide it from me."

⁵ I made known my sin to you, and my iniquity I did not cover. I said, "I will confess concerning my transgressions to Yahweh," and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah

¹³ He who conceals his transgression will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes will obtain mercy.

⁵ Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the district around the Jordan were going out to him, ⁶ and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they* confessed their sins.

²⁵ And large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from the other side of the Jordan.

²⁸ These things took place in Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

³⁸ And Peter said* to them, "Repent and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ And many of those who had believed came, confessing and disclosing their practices,

⁸ If we say that we do not have sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our* sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

²² _⌊From these_⌋* you may eat the locust according to its kind and the bald locust according to its kind and the cricket according to its kind and the grasshopper according to its kind.

⁸ They answered him, "A _⌊hairy man_⌋* with a leather belt girded around his waist." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite."

⁴ _⌊And then_⌋* on that day, each of the prophets will be ashamed because of his vision when he was prophesying, and they will not put on a cloak of hair in order to deceive,

⁴ Now John himself had his clothing made from camel's hair and a belt made of leather around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey.

¹⁴ But John tried to prevent* him, saying, "_⌊I need_⌋* to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

¹⁶ John answered them all, saying, "I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than I am is coming, of whom I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

⁶ So Jesus went with them. Now by this time he was not far away from the house, and* the centurion sent friends, saying to him, "Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy that you should come in under my roof. ⁷ For this reason neither did I consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word and my slave must be healed.

²⁷ the one who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy _⌊to untie_⌋* the strap of his sandal!"

²⁸ You yourselves testify about me that I said, 'I am not the Christ, but I am sent before that one.' ²⁹ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices _⌊greatly_⌋* because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is complete. ³⁰ It is necessary for that one to increase, but for me to decrease." ³¹ The one who comes from above is over all. ²⁵ But while John was completing his* mission, he said, 'What do you suppose me to be? I am not he! But behold, one is coming after me of whom I am not worthy to untie the sandals of his* feet!'

²³ May you turn to my argument!* Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

¹⁵ Until a spirit is poured out on us from on high,
and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is reckoned as the forest.

³ For I will pour out water on a thirsty land and streams on dry ground. I will pour my spirit out on your descendants* and my blessing on your offspring.

²⁵ And I will sprinkle on you pure water, and you will be clean from all of your uncleanness, and I will cleanse you from all of your idols. ²⁶ And I will give a new heart to you, and a new spirit I will give* into your inner parts, and I will remove the* heart of stone from your flesh, and I will give to you a heart of flesh. ²⁷ And I will give* my spirit into your inner parts, and I will make it so that you will go* in my rules, and my regulations you will remember, and you will do them.

²⁸ * And it will happen afterward thus: I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your elders will dream dreams; your young men shall see visions.

⁵ For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit _⌊not many days from now_⌋."*

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages* as the Spirit gave them ability to speak out.

¹⁷ 'And it will be in the last days,' God says, 'I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

⁴⁵ And those believers from the circumcision who had accompanied Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles,

¹⁵ And as I was beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as also on us at the beginning. ¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'*

⁴ And Paul said, "John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the one who was to come after him—that is, in Jesus." ⁵ And when they* heard this,* they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when* Paul laid hands* on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them and they began to speak* in tongues and to prophesy.

¹³ For by* one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free persons, and all were made to drink one Spirit.

⁵ he saved us, not by deeds of righteousness that we have done, but because of his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

²³ And he came and* lived in a town called Nazareth, in order that what was said by the prophets would be fulfilled:* "He will be called a Nazarene."

¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John in order to be baptized by him. ¹⁴ But John tried to prevent* him, saying, "_⌊I need_⌋* to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" ¹⁵ But Jesus answered and* said to him, "Permit it now, for in this way it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted him. ¹⁶ Now after he* was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming* upon him. ¹⁷ And behold, there was* a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²¹ Now it happened that when all the people were baptized, Jesus also was baptized, and while he* was praying, heaven was opened, ²² and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations.

¹ * Would that you would tear the heavens and come down; the mountains would quake before you,

¹⁶ Now after he* was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming* upon him.

²² and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

⁷ And a cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"

³⁵ And a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!"

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself is doing. And greater works than these he will show him, so that you will be astonished. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes. ²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

³⁷ And the Father who sent me, that one has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his form.

²⁸ Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have both glorified it,* and I will glorify it* again." ²⁹ Now the crowd that stood there and heard it* said _⌊it had thundered_⌋.* Others were saying, "An angel has spoken to him!" ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, "This voice has not happened for my sake, but for your sake.

⁴ who was declared Son of God in power according to _⌊the Holy Spirit_⌋* by the resurrection from the dead of Jesus Christ our Lord,

¹³ who has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us* to the kingdom of the Son _⌊he loves_⌋*,

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when* a voice such as this was brought to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." ¹⁸ And we ourselves heard this voice brought from heaven when we* were with him on the holy mountain,

¹ Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil, ² and after he* had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he was hungry. ³ And the tempter approached and* said to him, "If you are the Son of God, order that these stones become bread." ⁴ But he answered and* said, "It is written, 'Man will not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God."* ⁵ Then the devil took him to the holy city* and placed him on the highest point of the temple ⁶ and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down! For it is written,
'He will command his angels concerning you,'*
and
'On their hands they will lift you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"* ⁷ Jesus said to him, "On the other hand it is written, 'You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.'"* ⁸ Again the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, ⁹ and he said to him, "I will give to you all these things, if you will fall down and* worship me." ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"* ¹¹ Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and began ministering to him.

¹ And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness ² forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days, and when* they were completed, he was hungry. ³ So the devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, order this stone that it become bread!" ⁴ And Jesus replied to him, "It is written, 'Man will not live on bread alone.'"* ⁵ And he led him up and* showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said to him, "I will give you all this domain and their glory, because it has been handed over to me, and I can give it to whomever I want. ⁷ So if you will worship before me, all this will be yours." ⁸ And Jesus answered and* said to him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.'"* ⁹ And he brought him to Jerusalem, and had him stand on the highest point of the temple and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, ¹⁰ for it is written,
'He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,'* ¹¹ and
'on their hands they will lift you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'"* ¹² And Jesus answered and* said to him, "It is said, 'You are not to put to the test the Lord your God.'"* ¹³ And when* the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until a favorable time.*

¹⁸ And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and he went up the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ And he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights. He ate no food and drank no water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words.

¹¹ _⌊And then_⌋* at the end of forty days* and forty nights,* Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

¹⁸ And then I lay prostrate _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, as earlier, forty days* and forty nights;* I did not eat food and I did not drink water because of all your sins that you committed, by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh and so provoking him.

²⁵ "And I lay prostrate before Yahweh through forty days,* and through forty nights* I prostrated myself, because Yahweh intended to kill you.

⁵ He lay down and fell asleep under a certain broom tree, and suddenly this angel was touching him and said to him, "Get up, eat!" ⁶ He looked, and behold, a bread cake on hot coals was near his head and a jar of water, so he ate and drank. Then he did it again and lay down. ⁷ The angel of Yahweh appeared a second time and touched him and said, "Get up, eat, for the journey is greater than you." ⁸ So he got up, ate, drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights up to Horeb, the mountain of God.

⁵³ Or do you think that I cannot call upon my Father, and he would put at my disposal at once more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁶ And most certainly, great is the mystery of godliness:
Who was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated by* the Spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the Gentiles*, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.

¹⁷ Therefore he was obligated to be made like his brothers in all respects, in order that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in the things relating to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people. ¹⁸ For in that which he himself suffered when he* was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our weaknesses, but who has been tempted in all things in the same way, without sin.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

¹² Now when he* heard that John _⌊had been arrested_⌋,* he withdrew into Galilee.

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.

³⁵ And Jesus was going around all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every* disease and every* sickness.

² Now when* John* heard in prison the deeds of Christ, he sent word* by his disciples

² and he said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist! He has been raised from the dead, and for this reason miraculous powers are at work in him."

²⁰ added this also to them all: he also locked up John in prison.

¹⁷ And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll he found the place where it was written, ¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."*

⁴³ But he said to them, "It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose. ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

¹ And it happened that _⌊afterward_⌋* also he was going about from one town and village to another preaching and proclaiming the good news concerning the kingdom of God, and the twelve were with him,

²² After these things Jesus and his disciples came into Judean territory, and there he spent time with them and was baptizing. ²³ Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and they were coming and were being baptized. ²⁴ (For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)

²⁵ "And now behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about proclaiming the kingdom, will see my face no more.

²³ And when they* had set a day with him, many more came to him at his lodging place, to whom he was explaining from early in the morning until evening, testifying about the kingdom of God and attempting to convince* them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.

¹⁷ And coming, he proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to the ones who were near,

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.*

²⁵ And you must know and you must understand* that from the time of the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an anointed* one—a leader—will be _⌊seven weeks and sixty-two weeks_⌋;* it will be restored and will be built with streets and a moat, but _⌊in a time of oppression_⌋.*

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near!"

¹⁷ From that time on, Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is near."

⁷ And as you* are going, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven has come near!'

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his* father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God! ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did believe him. And when* you saw it,* you did not even change your minds later so as to believe in him.

⁹ and heal the sick in it, and say to them, "The kingdom of God has come near to you."

¹¹ "Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you! Nevertheless know this: that the kingdom of God has come near!"*

⁴⁷ and repentance and the forgiveness* of sins would be proclaimed in his name to all the nations,* beginning from Jerusalem.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt, that God has made him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified!" ³⁷ Now when they* heard this,* they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "What should we do, men and brothers?" ³⁸ And Peter said* to them, "Repent and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

²¹ testifying both to Jews and to Greeks with respect to repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus.

⁴ But when the fullness of time came, God sent out his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹⁰ for the administration of the fullness of times, to bring together all things in Christ, the things in the heavens and the things on the earth, in him

²⁵ correcting those who are opposed with gentleness, seeing whether perhaps God may grant them repentance to a knowledge of the truth, ²⁶ and they will come to their senses again and escape from the trap of the devil, being held captive by him to do his will.

¹⁸ Now as he* was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew, throwing a casting net into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁹ And he said to them, "_⌊Follow me_⌋* and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And immediately they left their nets and* followed him. ²¹ And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. ²² And immediately they left the boat and their father and* followed him.

² Now these are the names of the twelve apostles: first Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, James* the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,

¹⁶ And as he* was passing by along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting a net* into the sea (for they were fishermen). ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "_⌊Follow_⌋* me and I will make you become fishers of people." ¹⁸ And immediately they left their nets and* followed him. ¹⁹ And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, and they were in the boat mending the nets. ²⁰ And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and* went away after him.

¹⁶ And he appointed the twelve.* And to Simon he gave the name Peter,

¹⁸ and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,*

¹ Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around him and hearing the word of God, he was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret,* ² and he saw two boats there beside the lake, but the fishermen had gotten out of them and* were washing their nets. ³ And he got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and* asked him to put out from the land a little. And he sat down and* began to teach* the crowds from the boat. ⁴ And when he stopped speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." ⁵ And Simon answered and* said, "Master, although we* worked hard through the whole night, we caught nothing. But at your word I will let down the nets." ⁶ And when they* did this, they caught a very large number of fish, and their nets began to tear.* ⁷ And they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and* help them, and they came and filled both the boats so that they began to sink. ⁸ And when he* saw it,* Simon Peter fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, Lord, because I am _⌊a sinful man_⌋!"* ⁹ For amazement had seized him and all those who were with him at the catch of fish that they had caught, ¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were business partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid! From now on you will be catching people!" ¹¹ And after they* brought their* boats to the land, they left everything and* followed him.

¹⁴ Simon (whom he also named Peter) and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,

⁴⁰ Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed him. ⁴¹ This one first found his own brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" (which is translated "Christ"). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Looking at him, Jesus said, "You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which is interpreted "Peter").

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew the brother of Simon Peter, said to him,

²² Philip went and told Andrew. Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus.

¹³ And when they had entered, they went up to the upstairs room where they were staying—Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas son of James.

¹⁰ And then fishers* from En Gedi and on up to En Eglaim will stand beside it, a sea-girt drying yard for nets; their fish for the dragnets will be _⌊of every kind_⌋,* like the fish of the great sea,* and very many.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "_⌊Follow me_⌋* and I will make you fishers of people." ²⁰ And immediately they left their nets and* followed him.

¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were business partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid! From now on you will be catching people!"

³⁸ And Peter said* to them, "Repent and be baptized, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all those who are far away, as many as the Lord our God calls to himself." ⁴⁰ And with many other words he solemnly urged and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this crooked generation!" ⁴¹ So those who accepted his message were baptized, and on that day about three thousand souls were added.

²⁷ Then Peter answered and* said to him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you. What then will there be for us?" ²⁸ And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that in the renewal of the world,* when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me—you also will sit on twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife* or children or fields on account of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and will inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many who are first will be last, and the last first.

²⁸ Peter began to say to him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you." ²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields on account of me and on account of the gospel ³⁰ _⌊who will not_⌋* receive a hundred times as much now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, together with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life. ³¹ But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

¹¹ And after they* brought their* boats to the land, they left everything and* followed him.

³³ In the same way, therefore, every one of you who does not renounce all his own possessions _⌊cannot be_⌋* my disciple.

²⁸ And Peter said, "Behold, we have left _⌊all that is ours_⌋* and* followed you." ²⁹ And he said to them, "Truly I say to you that there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children on account of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ who will not receive many times more in this time and in the age to come, eternal life."

⁸ _⌊More than that_⌋*, I even consider all things to be loss because of the surpassing greatness of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for the sake of whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and consider them* dung, in order that I may gain Christ

²¹ And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.

¹⁷ and James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (and he gave to them the name Boanerges, that is, "Sons of Thunder"),

³⁷ And he did not allow anyone to follow along with him except Peter and James and John, the brother of James.

² And after six days, Jesus took along Peter and James and John, and led them to a high mountain by themselves alone. And he was transfigured before them,

³⁵ And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and* said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask you."

³³ And he took along Peter and James and John with him, and he began to be distressed and troubled.

² So he executed James the brother of John with a sword.

⁹ The one saying of his father and of his mother, 'I have not regarded them,' and his brothers he did not acknowledge, and his children* he did not know, but rather they observed your word, and your covenant they kept.

²⁰ Then he left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, "Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will go after you." Then he said, "Go, return, for what I have done to you?"

²¹ And another of the disciples* said to him, "Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father." ²² But Jesus said to him, "Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead!"

³⁷ The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields on account of me and on account of the gospel

²⁶ "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, and furthermore, even his own life, _⌊he cannot be_⌋* my disciple.

¹⁶ So then, from now on we know no one _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, if indeed we have known Christ _⌊from a human point of view_⌋*, but now we know him this way no longer.

¹³ And leaving Nazareth, he went and* lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,

³⁹ And he went into all Galilee preaching in their synagogues and expelling demons.

¹ And when he* entered again into Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home.

² And when* the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him* were amazed, saying, "Where did this man get these things? And what is this wisdom that has been granted to this man, and the miracles such as these performed through his hands?

¹ And from there he set out and* came to the region of Judea and the other side of the Jordan, and again crowds came together to him. And again, as he was accustomed to do,* he began to teach* them.

¹⁶ And he came to Nazareth, where _⌊he had been brought up_⌋,* and according to _⌊his custom_⌋* he entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath and stood up to read.

³¹ And he came down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee, and was teaching them on the Sabbath. ³² And they were astounded at his teaching, because _⌊he spoke_⌋* with authority. ³³ And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon,* and he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ "Ha! _⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" ³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" And after* throwing him down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all. ³⁶ And amazement came upon them all, and they began to talk* with one another, saying, "What word* is this? For he commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!" ³⁷ And news about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No! You will be brought down to Hades!

¹⁰ Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.

¹⁴ And they went on from Perga and* arrived at Pisidian Antioch. And they entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbath and* sat down. ¹⁵ So after the reading from the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent word* to them, saying, "Men and brothers, if there is any message of exhortation by you for the people, say it."* ¹⁶ So Paul stood up,* and motioning with his* hand, he said, "Israelite men, and those who fear God, listen! ¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and exalted the people during their* stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it. ¹⁸ And for a period of time of about forty years, he put up with them in the wilderness. ¹⁹ And after* destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave their land to his people* as an inheritance. ²⁰ This took* about four hundred and fifty years. And after these things, he gave them* judges until Samuel the prophet. ²¹ And then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. ²² And after* removing him, he raised up David for their king, about whom he also said, testifying, 'I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man in accordance with my heart, who will carry out all my will.'* ²³ From the descendants of this man, according to his promise, God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus. ²⁴ Before _⌊his coming_⌋* John had publicly proclaimed* a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. ²⁵ But while John was completing his* mission, he said, 'What do you suppose me to be? I am not he! But behold, one is coming after me of whom I am not worthy to untie the sandals of his* feet!' ²⁶ "Men and brothers, sons of the family of Abraham and those among you who fear God—to us the message of this salvation has been sent! ²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they* did not recognize this one, and the voices of the prophets that are read on every Sabbath, fulfilled them* by* condemning him.* ²⁸ And although they* found no charge worthy of death, they asked Pilate that he be executed. ²⁹ And when they had carried out all the things that were written about him, they took him* down from the tree and* placed him* in a tomb. ³⁰ But God raised him from the dead, ³¹ who appeared for many days to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem—who are now his witnesses to the people. ³² And we proclaim the good news to you: that the promise that was made to the fathers, ³³ this promise* God has fulfilled to our children* by* raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second psalm,
'You are my Son; today I have fathered you.'* ³⁴ But that he has raised him from the dead, no more going to return to decay, he has spoken in this way: 'I will give you the reliable divine decrees of David.'* ³⁵ Therefore he also says in another psalm,*
'You will not permit your Holy One to experience decay.'* ³⁶ For David, after* serving the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and _⌊was buried with_⌋* his fathers, and experienced decay. ³⁷ But he whom God raised up did not experience decay. ³⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you, men and brothers, that through this one forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and from all the things from which you were not able to be justified by the law of Moses, ³⁹ by this one everyone who believes is justified! ⁴⁰ Watch out, therefore, lest what is stated by the prophets come upon you:* ⁴¹ 'Look, you scoffers, and be astonished and perish! For I am doing a work in your days, a work that you would never believe even if someone were to tell it* to you.'"* ⁴² And as* they were going out, they began urging* that these things be spoken about to them on the next Sabbath. ⁴³ And after* the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the devout* proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and* were persuading them to continue in the grace of God. ⁴⁴ And on the coming Sabbath, nearly the whole city came together to hear the word of the Lord. ⁴⁵ But when* the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and began contradicting what was being said by Paul by* reviling him.* ⁴⁶ Both Paul and Barnabas spoke boldly and* said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you, since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life! Behold, we are turning to the Gentiles! ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us:
'I have appointed you _⌊to be_⌋* a light for the Gentiles, _⌊that you would bring_⌋* salvation to the end of the earth.'* ⁴⁸ And when* the Gentiles heard this,* they began to rejoice* and to glorify the word of the Lord. And all those who were designated for eternal life believed. ⁴⁹ So the word of the Lord was carried through the whole region. ⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout women of high social standing and the most prominent men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and threw them out of their district. ⁵¹ So after* shaking off the dust from their feet against them, they went to Iconium. ⁵² And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

² _⌊And as was his custom_⌋,* Paul went in to them and on three Sabbath days he discussed with them from the scriptures,

⁴ And he argued in the synagogue every Sabbath, attempting to persuade* both Jews and Greeks.

²⁹ "Is not my word like fire?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and like a blacksmith's hammer that breaks a rock into pieces?

²⁸ And it happened when Jesus finished these words the crowds were amazed at his teaching, ²⁹ because he was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.

⁵⁴ And he came to his hometown and* began to teach* them in their synagogue, so that they were amazed and said, "From where did this man get this wisdom and these miracles?

¹⁶ "Woe to you, blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing! But whoever swears by the gold of the temple is bound by his oath.'* ¹⁷ Fools and blind people! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold holy? ¹⁸ And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing! But whoever swears by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.'* ¹⁹ Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift holy? ²⁰ Therefore the one who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything that is on it. ²¹ And the one who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. ²² And the one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by the one who sits on it. ²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you pay a tenth of mint and dill and cumin, and neglect the more important matters of the law—justice and mercy and faithfulness! It was necessary* to do these things _⌊while not neglecting those_⌋.* ²⁴ Blind guides who filter out a gnat and swallow a camel!

³ (For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands _⌊ritually_⌋,* thus* holding fast to the traditions of the elders. ⁴ And when they come* from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other traditions* which they have received and* hold fast to—for example,* the washing of cups and pitchers and bronze kettles and dining couches.)* ⁵ And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their* bread with unclean hands?" ⁶ So he said to them, "Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written,
'This people honors me with their* lips, but their heart is far, far away from me. ⁷ And they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'* ⁸ Abandoning the commandment of God, you hold fast to the tradition of men." ⁹ And he said to them, "You splendidly ignore the commandment of God so that you can keep* your tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother,'* and, 'The one who speaks evil of father or mother _⌊must certainly die_⌋*.'* ¹¹ But you say, 'If a man says to his* father or to his* mother, "Whatever _⌊benefit you would have received_⌋* from me is corban"* (that is, a gift to God), ¹² you no longer permit him to do anything for his* father or his* mother, ¹³ thus* making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down, and you do many similar things such as this."

³² And they were astounded at his teaching, because _⌊he spoke_⌋* with authority.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom that all your opponents will not be able to resist or contradict.

⁴⁶ The officers replied, "Never has a man spoken like this!"

¹⁰ And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

²¹ And all who heard him* were amazed, and were saying, "Is this not the one who was wreaking havoc in Jerusalem on those who call upon this name, and had come here for this reason, that he could bring them tied up* to the chief priests?" ²² But Saul was increasing in strength even more, and was confounding the Jews who lived in Damascus by* proving that this one is the Christ.*

² but we have renounced shameful hidden things, not behaving with craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but with the open proclamation of the truth commending ourselves to every person's conscience before God.

¹² For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, both joints and marrow, and able to judge the reflections and thoughts of the heart. ¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

⁴³ "Now whenever an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it travels through waterless places searching for rest, and does not find it.*

³⁴ And he healed many _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and expelled many demons. And he did not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

² And as* he was getting out of the boat, immediately from the tombs a man with an unclean spirit went to meet him,

²⁵ But immediately a woman whose young daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, when she* heard about him, came and* fell down at his feet,

²⁵ Now when* Jesus saw that a crowd was running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more!"

¹² Isn't this the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve Egypt!' because serving Egypt is better for us than our dying in the desert."

¹⁰ for you will not abandon my soul to Sheol; you will not give your faithful one to see the grave.

¹⁸ because our shield belongs to Yahweh,* and our king to the Holy One of Israel.* ¹⁹ Formerly you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed help on a mighty man; I have exalted one chosen from the people.

²⁴ "Seventy weeks is decreed for your people and _⌊for your holy city_⌋,* to put an end to the transgression and to seal up sin* and to make atonement for guilt and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal vision and prophet and to anoint _⌊the most holy place_⌋.*

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "_⌊What do you have to do with us_⌋,* Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?"*

⁷ And crying out with a loud voice he said, "_⌊What have I to do with you_⌋*, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore you by God, do not torment me!"

³⁴ "Ha! _⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!"

²⁸ And when he* saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "_⌊What do I have to do with you_⌋,* Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me!"

³⁷ And all the people of the surrounding region of the Gerasenes asked him to depart from them, because they had been seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and* returned.

¹⁹ And he said to them, "What things?" So they said to him, "The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, a man who was a prophet, powerful in deed and word before God and all the people,

²⁷ because you will not abandon my soul in Hades, nor will you permit your Holy One to experience decay.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and demanded that a man—a murderer—be granted to you.

²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,

⁵ For we have found* this man to be a public menace and one who causes riots among all the Jews throughout the Roman Empire* and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes,

¹⁹ You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe, and shudder!

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:
"This is what the holy one, the true one, the one who has the key of David, the one who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one can open, says:

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to recite my statutes and _⌊mention my covenant with your mouth_⌋,*

¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, "You are the Son of God!" ¹² And he warned them strictly that they should not make him known.

³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" And after* throwing him down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all.

⁴¹ And demons also were coming out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Son of God!" And he rebuked them* and did not permit them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.*

¹⁷ She followed Paul and us and* was crying out, saying, "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation!"

²⁰ And they brought him to him. And when he* saw him, the spirit immediately convulsed him, and falling on the ground, he began to roll around, foaming at the mouth.

²⁶ And it came out, screaming and convulsing him* greatly, and he became as if he were dead, so that most of them said, "He has died!"

³⁹ And behold, a spirit seizes him and suddenly he screams, and it convulses him with foam and rarely withdraws from him, battering him severely.

⁴² And while* he was still approaching, the demon threw him down and convulsed him.* But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

²² But when a stronger man attacks him and* conquers him, he takes away his full armor in which he trusted and distributes his plunder.

³³ And after* the demon had been expelled, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished, saying, "_⌊This has never been seen before_⌋* in Israel!"

²² Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to him. And he healed him so that the man who was mute could speak and see. ²³ And all the crowds were amazed and began saying, "Perhaps this one is the Son of David!"

³¹ So then the crowd was astonished when they* saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.

³⁷ And they were amazed beyond all measure, saying, "He has done all things well! He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!"

²⁴ And the disciples were astounded at his words. But Jesus answered and* said to them again, "Children, how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God!

³² Now they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going on ahead of them. And they were astounded, but those who were following him* were afraid. And taking aside the twelve again, he began to tell them the things that were about to happen to him:

³⁶ And amazement came upon them all, and they began to talk* with one another, saying, "What word* is this? For he commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!"

¹ And summoning the twelve, he gave them power and authority over all the demons and to cure diseases,

¹⁷ And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!" ¹⁸ So he said to them, "I saw Satan falling like lightning from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I have given you the authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will ever harm you. ²⁰ Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are inscribed in heaven."

⁴ And he will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God. And they will live, for now he will be great unto the ends of the earth.

²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them.

³¹ But they went out and* spread the report about him in that whole region.

⁴⁵ But he went out and* began to proclaim it* freely and to spread abroad the account, so that he was no longer able to enter publicly into a town. But he was staying outside in deserted places, and they were coming to him from all directions.

¹⁷ And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him, and unrolling the scroll he found the place where it was written,

³⁷ And news about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

¹⁴ And when* Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying down and suffering with a fever. ¹⁵ And he touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him.

²¹ And they went into Capernaum and immediately on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue.*

²³ And so then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out,

³⁸ And after he* set out from the synagogue, he went into Simon's house. And Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a high fever, and they asked him on behalf of her. ³⁹ And he stood over her and* rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she got up and* began to serve* them.

⁵⁸ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his* head."

²³ And he was imploring him many times, saying, "My little daughter _⌊is at the point of death_⌋!* Come, lay your* hands on her, so that she will get well and will live."

³ So the sisters sent word* to him, saying, "Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick."

⁵ Do we not have the right to take along a sister as wife, like the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

¹⁴ Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the elders of the church and they should pray over him, anointing him with olive oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵ And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins _⌊he will be forgiven_⌋*.

Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and all within me, bless his holy name. ² Bless Yahweh, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits: ³ who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,

¹² What shall I give back to Yahweh for all his benefits to me?

⁵⁵ And there were many women there, observing from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him,

⁴¹ And taking hold of the child's hand, he said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"),

⁴¹ who used to follow* him and serve him when he was in Galilee, and many other women who went up with him to Jerusalem.

² and some women who had been healed of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (who was called Magdalene), from whom seven demons had gone out, ³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza (Herod's household manager), and Susanna, and many others who were helping to support them from their possessions.

⁴¹ And he gave her his hand and* raised her up. And he called the saints and the widows and* presented her alive.

¹⁶ Now when it* was evening, they brought to him many who were demon-possessed, and he expelled the spirits with a word. And he healed all _⌊those who were sick_⌋,*

² And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they could accuse him.

⁴⁰ Now as* the sun was setting, all who had those who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and placing his* hands on every one of them, he healed them.

⁵ And all the Judean region and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem went out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

⁴⁴ And on the coming Sabbath, nearly the whole city came together to hear the word of the Lord.

²⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent, and come out of him!"

¹² And he warned them strictly that they should not make him known.

¹⁶ And it happened that as* we were going to the place of prayer, a certain female slave who had a spirit of divination* met us, who was bringing a large profit to her owners by* fortune-telling. ¹⁷ She followed Paul and us and* was crying out, saying, "These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation!" ¹⁸ And she was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed and turning around, said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out _⌊immediately_⌋.*

³ O Yahweh, in the morning you will hear my voice. In the morning I will set forth* my case to you and I will watch.*

⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.*

²³ And after he* sent away the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. So when* evening came, he was there alone.

⁴⁶ And after he* had said farewell to them, he went away to the mountain to pray. ⁴⁷ And when* evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea and he was alone on the land. ⁴⁸ And he saw them being beaten in their rowing* because the wind was against them. Around the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea, and he was wanting to pass by them.

⁴² And when it* was day, he departed and* went to an isolated place. And the crowds were seeking him, and came to him and were trying to prevent him from departing from them. ⁴³ But he said to them, "It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose.

¹⁶ But he himself was withdrawing in the wilderness and praying.

¹² Now it happened that in these days he went away to the mountain to pray, and was spending the whole night in prayer to God.

³⁹ And he went away and* proceeded, according to his* custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him. ⁴⁰ And when* he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you will not enter into temptation." ⁴¹ And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw and _⌊knelt down_⌋* and* began to pray,* ⁴² saying, "Father, if you are willing, take away this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will but yours be done." ⁴³ And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. ⁴⁴ And being in anguish, he began praying* more fervently and his sweat became like drops of blood falling down to the ground.* ⁴⁵ And when he* got up from the prayer and* came to the disciples, he found them sleeping from sorrow, ⁴⁶ and he said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and* pray that you will not enter into temptation!"

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is that I do the will of the one who sent me and complete his work.

¹⁵ Then Jesus, because he* knew that they were about to come and seize him in order to make him* king, withdrew again up the mountain by himself alone.

¹⁸ with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

⁵ Think this in* yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁷ who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence.

¹¹ And it was broken on that day. Then the afflicted* of the flock,* the ones who were watching me, knew that it was the word of Yahweh.

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, about whom you testified—look, this one is baptizing, and all are coming to him!"

⁴⁸ If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place* and our* nation."

¹⁹ So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing! Behold, the world has gone after him."

⁴⁹ And he said to them, "_⌊Why_⌋* were you searching for me? Did you not know that it was necessary for me to be in the house* of my Father?"

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."* ²⁰ And he rolled up the scroll and* gave it* back to the attendant and* sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were looking intently at him. ²¹ And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

⁴³ But he said to them, "It is necessary for me to proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because I was sent for this purpose.

⁴ It is necessary for us to do the deeds of the one who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work!

²⁸ I have gone out from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father."

⁴ I have glorified you on earth by* completing the work that you have given me _⌊to do_⌋.*

⁸ because the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they received them* and know truly that I have come from you, and they have believed that you have sent me.

³⁰ And when she* went to her home, she found the child lying on the bed and the demon gone.

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ² "When a _⌊person_⌋* has on his body's skin a swelling or an epidermal eruption or a spot and it becomes* an infectious skin disease on his body's skin, then* he shall be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons the priests. ³ And the priest shall examine the infection on his body's skin, and if the hair in the infection turns white and the appearance of the infection is deeper than his body's skin, it is an infectious skin disease, and the priest shall examine it, and he shall declare him unclean. ⁴ But* if a spot is white on his body's skin and its appearance is not deeper than the skin and its hair does not turn white, then* the priest shall confine the afflicted person for seven days. ⁵ And the priest shall examine it on the seventh day, and _⌊if_⌋,* in his eyes, the infection has stayed unchanged, the infection has not spread on the skin, then* the priest shall confine him for seven days a second time. ⁶ And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day for a second time, and _⌊if_⌋* the infection has faded and the infection has not spread on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him clean—it is an epidermal eruption; and he shall wash his garments, and so he shall be clean. ⁷ But* if the epidermal eruption spreads further on the skin after showing himself to the priest for his cleansing, then* he shall appear a second time to the priest. ⁸ And the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* the epidermal eruption has spread on the skin, then* the priest shall declare him unclean—it is an infectious skin disease. ⁹ "When an infectious skin disease is on a person and he is brought to the priest, ¹⁰ the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* a white swelling is on the skin and it turns the hair white and _⌊raw flesh_⌋* is in the swelling, ¹¹ it is a chronic infectious skin disease on his body's skin, and the priest shall declare him unclean; he shall not confine him, because he is unclean. ¹² And if the infectious skin disease breaks out all over on the skin and the infectious skin disease covers all of the afflicted person's skin from his head to his feed, _⌊so far as the priest can see_⌋,* ¹³ then* the priest shall examine it,* and _⌊if_⌋* the infectious skin disease covers his whole body, then* he shall pronounce the afflicted person clean—all of it has turned white; he is clean. ¹⁴ But* _⌊whenever_⌋* _⌊raw flesh_⌋* appears on him, he shall become unclean.

¹⁰ And the cloud departed from on the tent, and behold, Miriam was infected with _⌊a skin disease_⌋* white like snow; when Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she was afflicted with a skin disease. ¹¹ So Aaron said to Moses, "Please, my lord, please do not put on us this sin in which we were foolish and in which we have sinned. ¹² Please do not let her be like the dead, whose flesh is half consumed when coming out from the womb of its mother." ¹³ And Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, "God, _⌊please heal her_⌋!"* ¹⁴ But Yahweh said to Moses, "If her father had surely spit in her face, would she not bear her shame for seven days? Let her be confined for seven days to an outside place of the camp, and afterward she may be gathered." ¹⁵ So Miriam was confined to the outside place of the camp seven days, and the people did not set out until Miriam was gathered.

⁸ Be watchful* _⌊with respect to_⌋* an outbreak of any infectious skin disease, by being very careful and by acting* according to all that the priests and the Levites have instructed you, just as I have commanded them, _⌊so you shall diligently observe_⌋.* ⁹ So remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam on the journey _⌊when you went out from Egypt_⌋.*

²⁹ May the blood come down on the head of Joab and all the house of his father. _⌊May the house of Joab never lack_⌋* one with a bodily discharge or one with leprosy or one who grasps the distaff or one who falls by the sword or one who is lacking food."

⁵ So the king of Aram said, "Go, I will send a letter to the king of Israel." He went and took _⌊with him_⌋* ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten sets of clothing. ⁶ So he brought the letter of the king to Israel, saying, "Now, when this letter comes to you, I have just sent Naaman my servant to you that you may cure him from his skin disease." ⁷ It happened that when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God to cause death or to give life? This man is sending a man to me to cure his disease. Indeed! But know and see that he seeks an opportunity against me." ⁸ It happened that as soon as Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, "Why did you tear your clothes? Please may he come to me, that he might know that there is a prophet in Israel." ⁹ Then Naaman came with his horses and his chariots, and he stopped at the doorway of the house of Elisha. ¹⁰ Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go, you must wash seven times in the Jordan, then your flesh shall return to you, and you shall be clean." ¹¹ But Naaman became angry and he went and said, "Look, I said to myself, 'Surely he will come out, stand, call upon the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hands over the spot; then he would take away the skin disease.' ¹² Are not the Abana and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all of the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them that I may be clean?" Then he turned and left in anger. ¹³ But his servants came near and spoke to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had spoken a difficult thing to you to do, would you not have done it? Why not even when he says to you, 'Wash and you shall be clean'?" ¹⁴ So he went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh returned as the flesh of a small boy, and he was clean. ¹⁵ When he returned to the man of God, he and all of his army, he came and stood before him and said, "Please now, I know that there is no God in all of the world except in Israel. So then, please take a gift from your servant." ¹⁶ And he said, "_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* before whom I stand, I surely will not take it." Still he urged him to take it, but he refused. ¹⁷ Then Naaman said, "If not, then please let a load of soil on a pair of mules be given to your servants, for your servant will never again bring a burnt offering and sacrifice to other gods, but only to Yahweh. ¹⁸ As far as this matter, may Yahweh pardon your servant when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he is leaning himself on my arm, that I also bow down in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh please pardon your servant in this matter." ¹⁹ He said to him, "Go in peace," so he went from him _⌊a short distance_⌋.* ²⁰ But Gehazi the servant of Elisha, the man of God, thought, "Look, my master has refrained from taking what this Aramean Naaman brought from his hand. _⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,* I will certainly run after him, and I will accept something from him." ²¹ So Gehazi pursued after Naaman. When Naaman saw someone running after him, he jumped off his chariot to meet him and asked him, "Is it peace?" ²² He said, "Peace. My master has sent me saying, 'Look, _⌊just now_⌋* two servants from the hill country of Ephraim came to me, from the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.'" ²³ Then Naaman said, "Be prepared to accept two talents." So he urged him and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, with two sets of clothing and gave it to two of his servants and they carried it before him. ²⁴ When he came to the citadel, he took them from their hand and put them in the house, then sent away the men so that they went. ²⁵ When he went and stood by his master, Elisha asked him, "From where have you come, Gehazi?" And he said, "Your servant has not gone _⌊anywhere_⌋."* ²⁶ Then he said to him, "Did not my heart go with you as the man turned from on his chariot to meet you? Is it time to take silver, clothes, olive orchards, vineyards, sheep, oxen, male slaves, and female slaves? ²⁷ The skin disease of Naaman shall cling to you and to your offspring forever." Then he went out from before him having a skin disease like the snow.

³ Now four men who had a skin disease were at the entrance of the gate, and they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "Why are we sitting here until we die?

⁵ Yahweh struck the king, and he was infected with a skin disease until the day of his death. He lived in a separate house, while Jotham the son of the king was over the house, governing the people of the land.

¹³ (For Solomon had made a platform of bronze five cubits long and five cubits wide and three cubits high, and placed it in the midst of the outer court.) And he stood upon it, then knelt down on his knees before the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands to heaven.

² And behold, a leper approached and* worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ³ And extending his hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing, be clean." And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. ⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

⁵ the blind receive sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the poor have good news announced to them.*

¹⁴ And when they* came to the crowd, a man approached him, kneeling down before him

²² And often it has thrown him both into fire and into water, in order that it could destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and* help us!" ²³ But Jesus said to him, "If you are able! All things are possible for the one who believes!"

¹⁷ And as* he was setting out on his way, one individual ran up and knelt down before him and* asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do so that I will inherit eternal life?"

¹² And it happened that while he was in one of the towns, _⌊there was_⌋* a man _⌊covered with leprosy_⌋.* And when he* saw Jesus, he fell down on his face and* begged him, saying, "Lord, if you are willing, you are able to make me clean." ¹³ And extending his* hand he touched him, saying, "I am willing; be clean." And immediately the leprosy went away from him. ¹⁴ And he ordered him, "Tell no one, but go and* show yourself to the priest and bring the offering* for your cleansing just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

¹² And as* he was entering into a certain village, ten men met him**—lepers, who stood at a distance. ¹³ And they raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!" ¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed. ¹⁵ But one of them, when he* saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. ¹⁶ And he fell on his face at his feet, giving thanks to him. And he was a Samaritan. ¹⁷ So Jesus answered and* said, "Were not ten cleansed? And where are the nine? ¹⁸ Was no one found to turn back and* give praise to God except this foreigner?" ¹⁹ And he said to him, "Get up and* go your way. Your faith has saved you."

⁴¹ And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw and _⌊knelt down_⌋* and* began to pray,*

⁶⁰ And falling to his* knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" And after he* said this, he fell asleep.*

¹⁴ On account of this, I bend my knees before the Father,

³ And God said, "Let there be light!" And there was light.

⁹ For _⌊he himself spoke_⌋* and it came to pass. _⌊He himself commanded_⌋* and it stood firm.

³⁶ And when he* saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were weary and dejected, like sheep that did not have a shepherd.

³⁹ And he woke up and* rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Be quiet! Be silent!" And the wind abated and there was a great calm.

³⁴ And getting out of the boat* he saw the large crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep _⌊without_⌋* a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

¹² And as he approached the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, his mother's only son, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. ¹³ And when* the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep!"

³ who is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, sustaining all things by the word of power.* When he* had made purification for sins through him, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

¹⁷ Therefore he was obligated to be made like his brothers in all respects, in order that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in the things relating to God, in order to make atonement for the sins of the people.

²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you want." And her daughter was healed from that hour.

³¹ And he came and* raised her up by* taking hold of her* hand, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

²⁹ And immediately her _⌊hemorrhage stopped_⌋* and she realized in her* body that she was healed of her* suffering.

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Go, your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he departed. ⁵¹ Now as* he was going down, his slaves met him, saying that his child was alive. ⁵² So he inquired from them the hour at which he had gotten better. Then they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." ⁵³ So the father knew that it was that* same hour at which Jesus said to him, "Your son will live," and he himself believed, and his whole household.

³ You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.

³⁰ And their eyes were opened, and Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See that no one finds out."

⁴³ And he commanded them strictly that no one should learn of this, and said to give her something* to eat.

³⁶ And he ordered them that they should say nothing, but as much as he ordered them not to, they proclaimed it* even more instead.

⁵⁶ And her parents were astonished, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

¹ Then* Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "This is the regulation of the person afflicted with a skin disease _⌊at the time of_⌋* his cleansing. And he shall be brought to the priest, ³ and the priest shall go _⌊outside the camp_⌋,* and the priest shall examine him,* and _⌊if_⌋* the skin disease's infection is healed on* the afflicted person, ⁴ then* the priest shall command, and he shall take two living, clean birds and _⌊cedar wood_⌋* and _⌊a crimson thread_⌋* and hyssop for the one who presents himself for cleansing. ⁵ Then* the priest shall command someone* to slaughter one bird over fresh water in a clay vessel. ⁶ He must take the living bird and the _⌊cedar wood_⌋* and _⌊the crimson thread_⌋* and the hyssop, and he shall dip them and the living bird in the bird's blood slaughtered over the fresh water. ⁷ And he shall spatter the blood* seven times on the one who presents himself for cleansing from the infectious skin disease, and he shall declare him clean, and he shall send the living bird _⌊into the open field_⌋.* ⁸ Then* the one who presents himself for cleansing shall wash his garments, and he shall shave off all his hair, and he shall wash himself in the water; thus* he shall be clean, and afterward he shall enter the camp, but* he shall stay _⌊outside his tent_⌋* for seven days. ⁹ _⌊And then_⌋* on the seventh day he must shave off all his hair—he must shave his head and his beard and _⌊his eyebrows_⌋* and all the rest* of his hair—and he shall wash his garments, and he shall wash his body in the water; thus* he shall be clean. ¹⁰ "And on the eighth day he must take two male lambs without defect and one ewe-lamb _⌊in its first year_⌋* without defect and three-tenths of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil as a grain offering and one log of oil. ¹¹ And the priest who cleanses him* shall present the man who presents himself for cleansing and _⌊these things_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* the tent of assembly's entrance. ¹² Then* the priest shall take the one male lamb, and he shall present it as a guilt offering, and the log of oil, and he shall wave them as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹³ And he shall slaughter the male lamb in the place where he slaughters the sin offering and the burnt offering in the sanctuary's space,* because as the sin offering belongs to the priest, so also the guilt offering—_⌊it is a most holy thing_⌋.* ¹⁴ And the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the guilt offering's blood, and the priest shall put it* on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe. ¹⁵ And the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the log of oil, and he shall pour it* on his* left palm; ¹⁶ and the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is on his left palm, and he shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the oil with his finger seven times _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁷ Then* the priest shall put _⌊some of_⌋* the remaining oil, which is on his palm, on the right ear's lobe of the one to be cleansed and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe, on top of the guilt offering's blood.* ¹⁸ And the remaining oil that is on the priest's palm he shall put on the head of the one who presents himself for cleansing, and the priest shall make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ¹⁹ Thus* the priest shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* the sin offering, and he shall make atonement for the one who presents himself for cleansing from his uncleanness, and afterward he shall slaughter the burnt offering. ²⁰ Then* the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar, and the priest shall make atonement for him, and so he shall be clean. ²¹ "But* if he is poor and _⌊he cannot afford_⌋* it,* then* he shall take one male lamb for a guilt offering as a wave offering to make atonement for himself and one-tenth of an ephah* of finely milled flour mixed with oil for a grain offering, and a log of oil, ²² and two turtledoves or two _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* and one shall be a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* a burnt offering. ²³ And he shall bring them to the priest at the tent of assembly's entrance _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh on the eighth day for his cleansing. ²⁴ And the priest shall take the male lamb for the guilt offering and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh; ²⁵ and he shall slaughter the male lamb of the guilt offering, and the priest shall take _⌊some of_⌋* the guilt offering's blood, and he shall put it* on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe. ²⁶ Then* the priest shall pour out _⌊some of_⌋* the oil on his own* left palm, ²⁷ and with his right finger the priest shall spatter _⌊some of_⌋* the oil that is on his left palm seven times _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ²⁸ Then* the priest shall put _⌊some of_⌋* the oil that is on his palm on the right ear's lobe of the one who presents himself for cleansing and on his right hand's thumb and on his right foot's big toe on the place of the guilt offering's blood. ²⁹ And the remaining oil that is on the priest's palm he shall put on the head of the one who presents himself for cleansing to make atonement for him _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ³⁰ And he shall _⌊sacrifice_⌋* one of the turtledoves or the _⌊young doves_⌋* that _⌊he can afford_⌋,* ³¹ even* what _⌊he can afford_⌋,* the one as a sin offering and the _⌊other_⌋* as a burnt offering in addition to the grain offering, and the priest shall make atonement for the one who presents himself for cleansing _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ³² This is the regulation of the one on whom is an infectious skin disease who _⌊cannot afford_⌋* the cost* for his cleansing."

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

² saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit on the seat of Moses. ³ Therefore do and observe everything that they tell you, but do not do as _⌊they do_⌋,* for they tell others to do something* and do not do it themselves.*

¹⁴ And he ordered him, "Tell no one, but go and* show yourself to the priest and bring the offering* for your cleansing just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.

¹⁴ And when he* saw them* he said to them, "Go and* show yourselves to the priests." And it happened that as they were going, they were cleansed.

⁴ For whatever was written beforehand was written for our instruction, in order that through patient endurance and through the encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope.

¹¹ Now these things happened to those people as an example, but are written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

¹¹ I will remember the deeds of Yah.* Surely I will remember your wonders* from long ago.

¹⁵ So they took the money and* did as they were told, and spread abroad this report among the Jews until this very day.

¹ And when he* entered again into Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. ² And many had gathered, so that there was no longer room, not even at the door, and he was speaking the word to them.

¹³ And he went out again beside the sea,* and all the crowd was coming to him, and he began to teach* them.

⁷ And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea,* and a great crowd from Galilee followed him.* And from Judea

¹⁵ But the report about him spread even more, and large crowds were gathering to hear him* and to be healed of their illnesses. ¹⁶ But he himself was withdrawing in the wilderness and praying. ¹⁷ And it happened that on one of the days as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there who _⌊had come_⌋* from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem, and the power of the Lord was there in order for him to heal.

² And a large crowd was following him because they were observing the signs that he was doing on those who were sick.

¹⁰ For there are many rebellious people, idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
