⁷ "Why does this man speak like this? He is blaspheming! Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?"

²⁵ I, I am the one who blots out your transgressions for my sake, and I will not remember your sins.

⁹ _⌊Compassion and forgiveness belong to the Lord, our God_⌋,* for we have rebelled against him,

¹⁸ Who is a God like you, forgiving sin and passing over rebellion for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, for he delights in loyal love.

³ And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming!"

⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his robes, saying, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have just now heard the blasphemy!

⁶⁴ You have heard the blasphemy! What _⌊do you think_⌋?"* And they all condemned him _⌊as deserving death_⌋.*

²¹ And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this man who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins except God alone?"

⁴⁹ And those who were reclining at the table with him began to say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?"

³³ The Jews answered him, "We are not going to stone you concerning a good deed, but concerning blasphemy, and because you, although you* are a man, make yourself to be God!"

³⁶ do you say about he whom the Father set apart and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

²⁰ And when he* had said this, he showed his* hands and his* side to them. Then the disciples rejoiced when they* saw the Lord. ²¹ So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you." ²² And when he* had said this, he breathed on them* and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. ²³ If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them. If you retain the sins* of any, they are retained."
