¹ At that time Jesus went through the grain fields on the Sabbath. And his disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck off heads of grain and eat them.* ² But when* the Pharisees saw it,* they said to him, "Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not permitted to do on the Sabbath!" ³ So he said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those with him, ⁴ how he entered into the house of God and ate the bread of the presentation, which it was not permitted for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple violate the sanctity of the Sabbath and are guiltless? ⁶ But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here! ⁷ And if you had known what _⌊it means_⌋,* 'I want mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath." ⁹ And going on from there he came into their synagogue. ¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath?" in order that they could accuse him. ¹¹ But he said to them, "What man will there be among you who will have one sheep and if this one fell into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it* out? ¹² Then to what degree is a man worth more than a sheep? So then, it is permitted to do good on the Sabbath." ¹³ Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand," and he stretched it* out, and it was restored as healthy as the other one. ¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out _⌊and plotted_⌋* against him in order that they could destroy him. ¹⁵ Now Jesus, when he* learned of it,* withdrew from there, and many* followed him, and he healed them all. ¹⁶ And he warned them that they should not _⌊reveal his identity_⌋,* ¹⁷ in order that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said, ¹⁸ "Behold my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ He will not quarrel or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. ²⁰ A crushed reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not extinguish, until he brings justice to victory. ²¹ And in his name the Gentiles* will hope.* ²² Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to him. And he healed him so that the man who was mute could speak and see. ²³ And all the crowds were amazed and began saying, "Perhaps this one is the Son of David!" ²⁴ But the Pharisees, when they* heard it,* said, "This man does not expel demons except by Beelzebul the ruler of demons!" ²⁵ But knowing their thoughts, he said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. ²⁶ And if Satan expels Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? ²⁷ And if I expel demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons expel them?* For this reason they will be your judges! ²⁸ But if I expel demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you! ²⁹ Or how can someone enter into the house of a strong man and steal his property, unless he first ties up the strong man? And then he can thoroughly plunder his house. ³⁰ The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters. ³¹ For this reason I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven! ³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this age or in the coming one! ³³ "Either make the tree good and its fruit is good, or make the tree bad and its fruit is bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you able to say good things when you* are evil? For from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things. ³⁶ But I tell you that every worthless word that they speak, people will give an account for it on the day of judgment! ³⁷ For by your words you will be vindicated, and by your words you will be condemned." ³⁸ Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him saying, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you!" ³⁹ But he answered and* said to them, "An evil and adulterous generation desires a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah! ⁴⁰ For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. ⁴¹ The people of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and behold, something* greater than Jonah is here! ⁴² The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something* greater than Solomon is here! ⁴³ "Now whenever an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it travels through waterless places searching for rest, and does not find it.* ⁴⁴ Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came out.' And when it* arrives it finds the house* unoccupied and swept and put in order. ⁴⁵ Then it goes and brings along with itself seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and* live there. And the last state of that person becomes worse than the first. So it will be for this evil generation also!" ⁴⁶ And* while* he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and brothers were standing there outside, desiring to speak to him. ⁴⁷ And someone told him, "Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing there outside desiring to speak to you." ⁴⁸ But he answered and* said to the one who told him, "Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?" ⁴⁹ And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, "Behold my mother and my brothers! ⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother."

²⁵ "When* you come into the standing grain of your neighbor, then you may pluck ears with your hand, but you may not _⌊swing_⌋* a sickle among the standing grain of your neighbor."

²³ And it happened that he was going through the grain fields on the Sabbath, and his disciples began to make their way while* plucking off the heads of grain. ²⁴ And the Pharisees began to say* to him, "Behold, why are they doing what is not permitted on the Sabbath?" ²⁵ And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he had need and he and those who were with him were hungry— ²⁶ how he entered into the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the bread of the presentation, which it is not permitted to eat (except the priests) and also gave it* to those who were with him?" ²⁷ And he said to them, "The Sabbath was established for people, and not people for the Sabbath. ²⁸ So then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."

¹ Now it happened that on a Sabbath he went through the grain fields, and his disciples were picking and eating the heads of grain, rubbing them* in their* hands. ² But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not permitted on the Sabbath? ³ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Have you not read this, what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry— ⁴ how he entered into the house of God and took the bread of the presentation, which it is not permitted to eat (except the priests alone), and* ate it* and gave it* to those with him?" ⁵ And he said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

⁹ Six days you will work, and you will do all your work. ¹⁰ But the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God; you will not do any work—you or your son or your daughter, your male slave or your female slave, or your animal, or your alien who is in your gates— ¹¹ because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it.

¹² " 'Six days you will do your work, but on the seventh day you will stop so that your ox and your donkey will rest and the son of your slave woman and the alien will be refreshed.

¹⁵ On six days work can be done, and on the seventh _⌊is a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* _⌊a holy day_⌋* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on the Sabbath day will surely be put to death. ¹⁶ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will pay attention to the Sabbath in order to fulfill the Sabbath* throughout their generations as a lasting covenant. ¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* forever, because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh he ceased* and recovered."*

² On six days work can be done, and on the seventh there will be for you a holy day,* a _⌊Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on it will be put to death.

³² When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were in the desert, they found a man who was gathering wood on the day of the Sabbath. ³³ The ones who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and to all the community. ³⁴ And they put him under watch because it was not made clear what should be done to him. ³⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Surely the man must be put to death by stoning him; all the community must stone him with stones from outside the camp." ³⁶ So the entire community brought him out to a place outside the camp, and _⌊they stoned him to death_⌋* just as Yahweh commanded Moses.

¹³ If you hold your foot back from the Sabbath, from doing your affairs on _⌊my holy day_⌋,* if* you call the Sabbath a pleasure, the holy day of Yahweh honorable, if* you honor him _⌊more than_⌋* doing your ways, than finding your affairs* and speaking a word,

¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand, and they asked him, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath?" in order that they could accuse him.

² And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they could accuse him. ³ And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come into the middle." ⁴ And he said to them, "Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. ⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored.

⁶ Now it happened that on another Sabbath he entered into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there, and his right hand was withered. ⁷ So the scribes and the Pharisees were watching closely* to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they could find a reason* to accuse him. ⁸ But he knew their thoughts and said to the man who had the withered hand, "Get up and stand in the middle," and he got up and* stood there. ⁹ And Jesus said to them, "I ask you whether it is permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?"* ¹⁰ And after* looking around at them all, he said to him, "Stretch out your hand," and he did, and his hand was restored. ¹¹ But they were filled with fury, and began discussing* with one another what they might do to Jesus.

¹⁰ Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. ¹¹ And behold, a woman was there* who had a spirit _⌊that had disabled her_⌋* for eighteen years, and she was bent over and not able to straighten herself up completely.* ¹² And when he* saw her, Jesus summoned her* and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your disability!" ¹³ And he placed his* hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and glorified God. ¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and* said to the crowd, "There are six days on which it is necessary to work. Therefore come and* be healed on them, and not on the day of the Sabbath!" ¹⁵ But the Lord answered and said to him, "Hypocrites! Does not each one of you untie his ox or his* donkey from the feeding trough on the Sabbath and lead it* away to water it?* ¹⁶ And this woman, who is a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound _⌊eighteen_⌋* long years—is it not necessary that she be released from this bond on the day of the Sabbath?" ¹⁷ And when* he said these things, all those who opposed him were humiliated, and the whole crowd was rejoicing at all the splendid things that were being done by him.

³ And Jesus answered and* said to the legal experts and Pharisees, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath, or not?"

⁵⁶ And they returned and* prepared fragrant spices and perfumes, and on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

⁹ And immediately the man became well and picked up his mat and began to walk.* (Now it was the Sabbath on that day.) ¹⁰ So the Jews were saying to the one who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath, and it is not permitted for you to pick up the mat!"* ¹¹ But he answered them, "The one who made me well—that one said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk!'"

¹⁶ And on account of this the Jews began to persecute* Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. ¹⁷ But he answered* them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working."

²¹ Jesus answered and said to them, "I performed one work, and you are all astonished. ²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man well* on the Sabbath? ²⁴ Do not judge according to outward appearance, but judge according to righteous judgment!"

¹⁴ (Now the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes was the Sabbath.) ¹⁵ So the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received sight. And he said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see." ¹⁶ So some of the Pharisees were saying, "This man is not from God, because he does not observe the Sabbath!" Others* were saying, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?" And there was a division among them.

³ Now then, _⌊what do you have at hand_⌋?* Give me five loaves of bread or _⌊whatever is here_⌋."* ⁴ The priest answered David and said, "There is no ordinary bread _⌊here at hand_⌋;* there is only holy bread, but only if the young men have kept themselves from women." ⁵ David answered the priest and said to him, "Indeed, women were held back from us _⌊as it has been when I've gone out before_⌋.* And the things* of the young men are holy when* it is an ordinary journey. _⌊How much more_⌋* _⌊today_⌋* will the things* be holy?" ⁶ So the priest gave him the holy bread, for there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence, which was removed from before Yahweh, in order to set hot bread there on the day when it was taken away.

⁵ Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple violate the sanctity of the Sabbath and are guiltless?

⁴ And he answered and* said, "Have you not read that the one who created them* from the beginning made them male and female

¹⁶ And they said to him, "Do you hear what these children* are saying?" So Jesus said to them, "Yes, have you never read, 'Out of the mouths of children and nursing babies you have prepared for yourself praise'?"*

³¹ Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, who said,

²⁵ And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he had need and he and those who were with him were hungry— ²⁶ how he entered into the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the bread of the presentation, which it is not permitted to eat (except the priests) and also gave it* to those who were with him?"

¹⁰ Have you not read this scripture:
'The stone which the builders rejected, this has become _⌊the cornerstone_⌋.*

²⁶ Now concerning the dead, that they are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses _⌊in the passage about the bush_⌋* how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob'?*

³ And Jesus answered and* said to them, "Have you not read this, what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry—

²⁶ And he said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"*

³⁰ And you will put on the table the bread of presence to be before me continually.

³² And Aaron and his sons will eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket at the entrance of the tent of assembly. ³³ And they will eat them—the things by which atonement was made for them to ordain them to consecrate them—and a stranger will not eat them because they are holy objects.

³¹ Then* Moses said to Aaron and to his sons, "Boil the meat in the entrance to* the tent of assembly, and there you must eat it and the bread that is in the basket of the consecration offering, just as I have commanded, saying, 'Aaron and his sons must eat it,'

⁵ "And you shall take finely milled flour, and you shall bake with it twelve ring-shaped bread cakes: each one shall be two-tenths of an ephah. ⁶ And you shall place them in two rows, six to the row, on the pure gold* table _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ⁷ And you shall put pure frankincense on each* row so that* it shall be for the bread as a memorial offering, an offering made by fire for Yahweh. ⁸ _⌊On every Sabbath_⌋* he shall arrange it in rows _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh continually; they are from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* as an everlasting* covenant. ⁹ And it shall be for Aaron and for his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, because it is _⌊a most holy thing_⌋* for him from Yahweh's offerings made by fire—a _⌊lasting rule_⌋."*

⁹ " 'On the day of the Sabbath, two male lambs without defect _⌊in their first year_⌋,* and two-tenths of finely milled flour mixed with oil for a grain offering and its libation. ¹⁰ This is the burnt offering every Sabbath in addition to the continual burnt offering and its libation.

¹⁷ So I quarreled with the nobles of Judah and said to them, "What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the day of the Sabbath?

²¹ "Say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I will be profaning my sanctuary, the pride of your strength and the delight of your eyes and the object of your own* affection; and your sons and your daughters whom you left behind will fall by the sword,

²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man well* on the Sabbath?

¹⁸ "But will God indeed dwell with humankind upon the earth? Look, the heavens and _⌊the highest heavens_⌋* cannot contain you! Surely then this house that I have built will not contain you!

⁷ I will shake all the nations so that the treasure of all the nations will come, and I will fill this house* with glory,' says Yahweh of hosts. ⁸ 'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts. ⁹ 'The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,' says Yahweh of hosts, 'and in this place I will give peace' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts.'"

¹ "Look! I am going to send my messenger,* and he will prepare* the way _⌊before me_⌋.* And the Lord whom you are seeking will come suddenly to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you are taking pleasure—look!—he is about to come," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁴¹ The people of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and behold, something* greater than Jonah is here! ⁴² The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something* greater than Solomon is here!

¹⁷ Fools and blind people! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that makes the gold holy? ¹⁸ And, 'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing! But whoever swears by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.'* ¹⁹ Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift holy? ²⁰ Therefore the one who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything that is on it. ²¹ And the one who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up!" ²⁰ Then the Jews said, "This temple has been under construction* forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?" ²¹ But he was speaking about the temple of his body.

²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,* ²¹ in whom the whole building, joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom you also are built up together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.*

⁹ because in him all the fullness of deity dwells bodily,

⁴ to whom you are drawing near, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God. ⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

³ and _⌊he became angry_⌋* at his three friends because they had not found an answer, and they had declared Job guilty.

²¹ They band together against the life of the righteous, and declare the blameless guilty of blood.*

³¹ for he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those judging his life.*

¹⁵ He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, the two of them are both abominations of Yahweh.

¹¹ What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says Yahweh. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who asked for this from your hand: you trampling my courts? ¹³ You must not _⌊continue_⌋* to bring offerings* of futility, incense—it is an abomination to me; new moon and Sabbath, the calling of a convocation— I cannot endure iniquity with solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed festivals my soul hates; they have become to me like a burden, I am not able to bear them. ¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash! Make yourselves clean! Remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes! Cease to do evil! ¹⁷ Learn to do good! Seek justice! Rescue the oppressed! Defend the orphan! Plead for the widow!

⁶ Because I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

⁶ With what shall I approach Yahweh, and bow down to God on high? Shall I approach him with burnt offerings, with bull calves a year old? ⁷ Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams, with myriads of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? ⁸ He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does Yahweh ask from you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

¹³ But go and* learn what it means, "I want mercy and not sacrifice."* For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

²⁹ But Jesus answered and* said to them, "You are mistaken, because* you do not know the scriptures or the power of God!

²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they* did not recognize this one, and the voices of the prophets that are read on every Sabbath, fulfilled them* by* condemning him.*

⁶ You have condemned, you have murdered the righteous person; he does not resist you.

²⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

⁶ But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins," then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, pick up your stretcher and go to your home."

²⁸ So then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."

⁴ And Elijah appeared to them together with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. ⁵ And Peter answered and* said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here! And let us make three shelters, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." ⁶ (For he did not know what he should answer, because they were terrified.) ⁷ And a cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"

⁵ And he said to them, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

¹⁷ But he answered* them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working." ¹⁸ So on account of this the Jews were seeking even more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God his own Father, thus* making himself equal with God. ¹⁹ So Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing from himself except what he sees the Father doing. For whatever that one does, these things also the Son does likewise. ²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything that he himself is doing. And greater works than these he will show him, so that you will be astonished. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them* alive, thus also the Son makes alive whomever he wishes. ²² For the Father does not judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ in order that all people* will honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

²¹ To those outside the law I became as outside the law (although I* am not outside the law of God, but subject to the law of Christ) in order that I may gain those outside the law.

² On the first day of the week, each one of you _⌊put aside_⌋* something, saving up _⌊to whatever extent he has prospered_⌋*, in order that whenever I come, at that time collections do not take place.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great sound like a trumpet

¹ And he entered into the synagogue again, and a man who had a withered hand was there. ² And they were watching him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they could accuse him. ³ And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come into the middle." ⁴ And he said to them, "Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. ⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored. ⁶ And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians _⌊and began to conspire_⌋* against him with regard to how they could destroy him.

⁴ It happened at the moment the king heard the word of the man of God that he cried out against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Seize him!" But his hand which he stretched out to him was paralyzed, and he was not able to draw it back to himself. ⁵ Then the altar was torn apart and the ashes from the altar poured out according to the sign which the man of God had announced by the word of Yahweh. ⁶ Then the king responded and said to the man of God, "Please entreat the favor of Yahweh your God, and pray for me that my hand may return to me." So the man of God entreated the face of Yahweh, and the hand of the king returned to him, as it was in the beginning.

⁶ For a fool speaks folly, and his _⌊mind_⌋* does iniquity: to _⌊behave wickedly_⌋,* and to speak error concerning Yahweh, to leave the throat of the hungry empty, and he deprives the thirsty of drink.

⁴ There is nobody _⌊who pleads with_⌋* justice, and there is nobody who judges with honesty. They rely on nothing and speak vanity. They conceive trouble and beget iniquity;

¹³ transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning _⌊away from following_⌋* our God; speaking oppression and falsehood, conceiving and uttering words of deception from the heart.

¹⁷ "Woe, my worthless shepherd who deserts the flock!* May a sword fall on his arm and on _⌊his right eye_⌋!* May his arm wither completely and _⌊his right eye_⌋* be utterly blinded!"

² But when* the Pharisees saw it,* they said to him, "Behold, your disciples are doing what it is not permitted to do on the Sabbath!"

³ And Pharisees came up to him in order to* test him, and asked* if it was permitted for a man to divorce his wife for any cause.

¹⁷ Therefore tell us what you think. Is it permitted to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" ¹⁸ But because he* knew their maliciousness, Jesus said, "Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?

⁶ Now it happened that on another Sabbath he entered into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there, and his right hand was withered. ⁷ So the scribes and the Pharisees were watching closely* to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, in order that they could find a reason* to accuse him.

⁵⁴ plotting to catch him with reference to something _⌊he might say_⌋.*

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and* said to the crowd, "There are six days on which it is necessary to work. Therefore come and* be healed on them, and not on the day of the Sabbath!"

³ And Jesus answered and* said to the legal experts and Pharisees, saying, "Is it permitted to heal on the Sabbath, or not?" ⁴ But they remained silent. And he took hold of him* and* healed him, and sent him* away. ⁵ And he said to them, "Who among you, if your* son or your ox falls into a well* on the day of the Sabbath, will not immediately pull him out?" ⁶ And they were not able to make a reply to these things.

²² Is it permitted for us to pay taxes* to Caesar or not?"

² And they began to accuse him, saying, "We have found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us* to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying he himself is Christ, a king!"

¹⁴ and* said to them, "You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people, and behold, when I* examined him* before you, I found nothing in this man as basis for the accusation which _⌊you are making_⌋* against him.

³ In these were lying a large number of those who were sick, blind, lame, paralyzed.*

¹⁰ So the Jews were saying to the one who had been healed, "It is the Sabbath, and it is not permitted for you to pick up the mat!"*

⁶ (Now they were saying this to test him, so that they would have an occasion* to bring charges against him.) But Jesus, bending down, began to write* with his* finger on the ground, taking no notice.*

¹⁶ So some of the Pharisees were saying, "This man is not from God, because he does not observe the Sabbath!" Others* were saying, "How can a man who is a sinner perform such signs?" And there was a division among them.

⁴ " 'If you come upon the ox of your enemy or his donkey going astray, you will certainly bring it back to him. ⁵ If you see the donkey of your enemy lying down under its burden, you will refrain from abandoning him. You will surely arrange* it with him.

⁴ "You shall not see the donkey of your neighbor or his ox fallen on the road and you ignore them; certainly you must help them get up along with him.

⁵ And he said to them, "Who among you, if your* son or your ox falls into a well* on the day of the Sabbath, will not immediately pull him out?"

²⁶ Consider the birds of the sky, that they do not sow or reap or gather produce into barns, and your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they are?

³¹ Therefore do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

⁴ And he said to them, "Is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent.

⁹ And Jesus said to them, "I ask you whether it is permitted on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save a life or to destroy it?"*

²⁴ Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap; to them there is neither storeroom nor barn, and God feeds them. How much more are you worth than the birds?

¹³ And he placed his* hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and glorified God.

⁷ And taking hold of him by the right hand, he raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. ⁸ And leaping up, he stood and began walking around* and entered into the temple courts* with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

⁴ and plotted in order that they could arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.*

¹ Now when it* was early morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus in order to put him to death.

⁶ And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians _⌊and began to conspire_⌋* against him with regard to how they could destroy him.

¹¹ But they were filled with fury, and began discussing* with one another what they might do to Jesus.

¹⁸ So on account of this the Jews were seeking even more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God his own Father, thus* making himself equal with God.

³⁹ So they were seeking again to seize him, and he departed out of their hand.

⁵³ So from that day they resolved that they should kill him.

⁵⁷ (Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, they should report it,* in order that they could arrest him.)

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. ²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them. ²⁵ And large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from the other side of the Jordan.

²³ And whenever they persecute you in this town, flee to another, for truly I say to you, you will never finish going through the towns of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

² And large crowds followed him, and he healed them there.

⁷ And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea,* and a great crowd from Galilee followed him.* And from Judea ⁸ and from Jerusalem and from Idumea and the other side of the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon a great crowd came to him because they* heard all that he was doing. ⁹ And he told his disciples that a small boat should stand ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not press upon him. ¹⁰ For he had healed many, so that all those who _⌊were suffering from diseases_⌋* pressed about him in order that they could touch him. ¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, "You are the Son of God!" ¹² And he warned them strictly that they should not make him known.

⁵⁶ And wherever he would go, into villages or into towns or to farms, they would put those who were sick in the marketplaces and would implore him that if they could touch even the edge of his cloak. And all those who touched it were healed.

¹² Now it happened that in these days he went away to the mountain to pray, and was spending the whole night in prayer to God.

¹⁷ And he came down with them and* stood on a level place, and a large crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all of Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast district of Tyre and Sidon, ¹⁸ who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases, and those who were troubled by unclean spirits were cured. ¹⁹ And the whole crowd was seeking to touch him, because power was going out from him and healing them all.

¹ And after these things Jesus was going about in Galilee. For he did not want to go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

⁴ It is necessary for us to do the deeds of the one who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work!

⁴⁰ And he went away again on the other side of the Jordan, to the place where John was baptizing at an earlier time, and he stayed there. ⁴¹ And many came to him and began to say,* "John performed no sign, but everything John said about this man was true!" ⁴² And many believed in him there.

⁵⁴ So Jesus was no longer walking openly among the Jews, but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

⁹ And let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we* do not give up.

²¹ For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you should follow in his footsteps,

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."

³⁰ And their eyes were opened, and Jesus sternly warned them, saying, "See that no one finds out."

⁹ And as* they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them saying, "Tell no one the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead."

³⁶ And he ordered them that they should say nothing, but as much as he ordered them not to, they proclaimed it* even more instead.

¹⁴ And he ordered him, "Tell no one, but go and* show yourself to the priest and bring the offering* for your cleansing just as Moses commanded, for a testimony to them. ¹⁵ But the report about him spread even more, and large crowds were gathering to hear him* and to be healed of their illnesses.

²² Let them bring them, and let them tell us what will happen. Tell us what the former things are _⌊so that_⌋* we may take them to our heart and know their outcome.* Declare to us the things to come; ²³ tell us the things coming _⌊hereafter_⌋,* that* we may know that you are gods. Indeed, do good or* do evil, that* we may be afraid and see* together.

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations. ² He will not cry out and lift up and make his voice heard in the street. ³ He will not break a broken reed, and he not will extinguish a dim wick. He will bring justice forth in* faithfulness. ⁴ He will not grow faint, and he will not be broken until he has established justice in the earth. And the coastlands wait for his teaching.

⁹ Look! the former things have come, and I declare new things. I _⌊announce_⌋* them to you before they sprout up."

²⁶ who keeps* the word of his servant and carries out the plan of his messengers, who says of Jerusalem, 'It shall be inhabited,' and of the cities of Judah, 'They shall be rebuilt, and I will restore its ruins';

¹⁷ in order that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said,
"He himself took away our sicknesses, and carried away our diseases."*

³⁵ in order that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, who said,
"I will open my mouth in parables; I will proclaim what has been hidden since the creation."**

⁴ Now this took place so that what was spoken through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying,

²² because these are days of vengeance, so that all the things that are written can be fulfilled.

⁴⁴ And he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I* was still with you, that everything that is written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled."

³⁵ If he called them 'gods' to whom the word of God came—and the scripture cannot be broken—

³⁸ in order that the word of the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said,
"Lord, who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"*

²⁸ After this, Jesus, knowing that now at last everything was completed, in order that the scripture would be fulfilled, said, "I am thirsty."

¹⁹ Formerly you spoke in a vision to your faithful ones, and said, "I have bestowed help on a mighty man; I have exalted one chosen from the people.

² And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest on him— a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and might, a spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.

¹⁵ Until a spirit is poured out on us from on high,
and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is reckoned as the forest. ¹⁶ Then* justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness will live in the fruitful field.

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations.

¹ Listen to me, coastlands, and listen attentively, peoples from far away! Yahweh called me from the womb; from the _⌊body_⌋* of my mother he made my name known. ² And he _⌊made_⌋* my mouth like a sharp sword; he hid me in the shadow of his hand, and he _⌊made_⌋* me like an sharpened arrow; he hid me in his quiver. ³ And he said to me, "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will show my glory."

⁵ And now Yahweh says, who formed me from the womb as a servant for him, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might not* be gathered, for* I am honored in the eyes of Yahweh, and my God has become my strength. ⁶ And he says, "It is trivial _⌊for you to be_⌋* a servant for me,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel. I will give you as a light to the nations, to be my salvation to the end of the earth."

¹³ Look, my servant shall achieve success; he shall be exalted, and he shall be lifted up, and he shall be very high.

¹¹ From the trouble of his life* he will see;* he will be satisfied. In his knowledge, the righteous one, my servant, shall declare many righteous,* and he is the one who will bear their iniquities.

²⁰ "And a redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn away from transgression,"
_⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ²¹ "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says Yahweh:
my spirit that is upon you, and my words that I have placed in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, or* from the mouths* of your _⌊children_⌋,* or* from the mouths* of _⌊your children's children_⌋,"* says Yahweh, "from now on and forever."

² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but* Yahweh will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the bright light of your sunrise.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

² And the nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and _⌊you will be called_⌋* a new name that the mouth of Yahweh will designate.

¹⁹ O Yahweh, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth, and they will say, "Our ancestors* have inherited only lies,* vanity, and there is no profit in them.

⁸ Listen, please, O Joshua the high priest, you and your companions* that are sitting _⌊before_⌋* you. For the men are a sign that,* look, I am going to bring my servant the Branch.*

¹⁶ Now after he* was baptized, Jesus immediately went up from the water, and behold, the heavens opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove coming* upon him. ¹⁷ And behold, there was* a voice from heaven saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

¹¹ And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

⁷ And a cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came from the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"

³¹ that you have prepared in the presence of all the peoples, ³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory to your people Israel."

²² and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

³⁵ And a voice came from the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him!"

³⁵ And the people stood there watching, but the rulers also ridiculed him,* saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if this man is the Christ* of God, the Chosen One!"

³² And John testified, saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and remaining upon him. ³³ And I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water, that one said to me, 'The one upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon him—this one is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and testify that this one is the Chosen One* of God.

³⁴ For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit by measure.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

¹⁸ And when they* heard these things, they became silent* and praised God, saying, "Then God has granted the repentance leading to life to the Gentiles also!"

⁴⁶ Both Paul and Barnabas spoke boldly and* said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you, since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life! Behold, we are turning to the Gentiles! ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us:
'I have appointed you _⌊to be_⌋* a light for the Gentiles, _⌊that you would bring_⌋* salvation to the end of the earth.'* ⁴⁸ And when* the Gentiles heard this,* they began to rejoice* and to glorify the word of the Lord. And all those who were designated for eternal life believed.

²⁷ And when they* arrived and called the church together, they reported all that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles.*

¹⁷ rescuing you from the people and from the Gentiles to whom I am sending you, ¹⁸ to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

⁹ and that the Gentiles may glorify God for his mercy, just as it is written,
"Because of this, I will praise you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praise to your name."* ¹⁰ And again it says,
"Rejoice, Gentiles, with his people."* ¹¹ And again,
"Praise the Lord, all the Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him."* ¹² And again Isaiah says,
"The root of Jesse will come, even the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles will put their hope."*

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace that he bestowed on us in the beloved,

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands, ¹² that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you, the ones who once were far away, have become near by the blood of Christ.

⁵ (which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit): ⁶ that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, and fellow members of the body, and fellow sharers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel, ⁷ of which I became a servant, according to the gift of God's grace given to me, according to the working of his power. ⁸ To me, the least of all the saints, was given this grace: to proclaim the good news of the fathomless riches of Christ to the Gentiles,

⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal with God something to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself by* taking the form of a slave, by* becoming in the likeness of people. And being found in appearance like a man,

¹ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

¹³ who has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us* to the kingdom of the Son _⌊he loves_⌋*,

⁴ to whom you are drawing near, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God.

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when* a voice such as this was brought to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

⁹ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king comes to you; he is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, and on a male donkey, _⌊the foal of_⌋* a female donkey!

²⁹ Take my yoke on you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

²⁰ Now when he* was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with _⌊things that can be observed_⌋,*

³⁶ Jesus replied, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews. But now my kingdom is not from here." ³⁷ Then Pilate said to him, "So then you are a king!" Jesus replied, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I was born, and for this reason I have come into the world: in order that I can testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice." ³⁸ Pilate said to him, "What is truth?"
And when he* had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, "I find no basis for an accusation against him.

¹ Now I, Paul, appeal to you myself by the humility and gentleness of Christ, who _⌊when I am present in person_⌋* am humble among you, but when I* am absent am bold toward you—

²⁴ And the slave of the Lord must not quarrel, but be kind toward everyone, skillful in teaching, tolerant, ²⁵ correcting those who are opposed with gentleness, seeing whether perhaps God may grant them repentance to a knowledge of the truth,

²¹ Now, look! You _⌊rely_⌋* on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, which when a man leans on it, it goes into his hand and pierces it! So is Pharaoh the king of Egypt for all who are trusting on him!

¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

¹ A psalm.*
Sing to* Yahweh a new song, for he has done wonders. His right hand and his holy arm have secured his victory. ² Yahweh has made known his salvation;* to the eyes of the nations he has revealed his righteousness. ³ He has remembered his loyal love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation* of our God.

³ He is the one who heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.

¹¹ He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arm, and he will carry them in his bosom; he will lead those who nurse.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy:
"I reside in a high and holy place, and with the _⌊contrite_⌋* and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the _⌊contrite_⌋.*

³¹ For the Lord will not reject forever. ³² For even though he causes grief he has compassion according to the greatness of his royal love. ³³ He does not _⌊afflict willingly_⌋,* or grieve _⌊anyone_⌋.* ³⁴ To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth;

¹⁶ "I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the scattered, and I will bind up the one hurt, and I will strengthen the sick; and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed her with justice."

²⁸ Come to me, all of you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.

¹⁷ Therefore I have a reason for boasting in Christ Jesus regarding the things concerning God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak about anything except that which Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,* so that from Jerusalem and traveling around as far as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

⁷ So then, you should rather forgive and comfort him, lest somehow this person should be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

¹⁴ But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ, and who reveals the fragrance of the knowledge of him through us in every place.

³ For although we* are living in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh, ⁴ for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but powerful to God for the tearing down of fortresses, tearing down arguments ⁵ and all pride that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

¹² Therefore strengthen your slackened hands and your weakened knees, ¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame will not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

² And I looked, and behold, a white horse, and the one seated on it had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and in order that he might conquer.

¹¹ And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and the one seated on it was called "Faithful" and "True," and with justice* he judges and makes war. ¹² Now his eyes were a flame of fire, and on his head were many royal headbands having a name written that no one except he himself knows. ¹³ And he was dressed in an outer garment dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. ¹⁴ And the armies that are in heaven, dressed in clean, white fine linen, were following him on white horses. ¹⁵ And out of his mouth came a sharp sword, so that with it he could strike the nations. And he will shepherd them with an iron rod,* and he stomps the winepress of the wine of the furious wrath of God, the All-Powerful. ¹⁶ And he has a name written on his outer garment and on his thigh: "King of kings and Lord of lords." ¹⁷ And I saw one angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly _⌊directly overhead_⌋*,
"Come! Assemble for the great banquet of God, ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of military tribunes, and the flesh of the powerful, and the flesh of horses and those seated on them, and the flesh of all people, both free and slave, and small and great!" ¹⁹ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to make war with the one who is seated on the horse and with his army. ²⁰ And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs before him, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who had worshiped his image. The two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur. ²¹ And the rest were killed by the sword of the one who is seated on the horse—the sword that comes out of his mouth—and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.

¹⁰ And this shall happen on that day:
the nations shall inquire of the root of Jesse, which shall be standing as a signal to the peoples, and his resting place shall be glorious.

⁴ He will not grow faint, and he will not be broken until he has established justice in the earth. And the coastlands wait for his teaching.

¹² And again Isaiah says,
"The root of Jesse will come, even the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles will put their hope."* ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹² that we who hoped beforehand in Christ should be for the praise of his glory, ¹³ in whom also you, when you heard* the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also when you believed you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,

²⁷ to whom God wanted to make known what is the glorious wealth of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,

¹⁵ O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will proclaim your praise.

¹⁸ And on that day, the deaf shall hear the words of a scroll, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of gloom and darkness.

³ And the eyes of those who see will not gaze,* and the ears of those who hear will listen. ⁴ And the _⌊minds_⌋* of the rash will understand _⌊knowledge_⌋,* and the tongues* of stammerers will hasten to speak clearly.

⁵ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be opened. ⁶ Then the lame shall leap like the deer, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing for joy, for waters shall break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert.

²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them.

³² Now as* they were going away, behold, they brought to him a demon-possessed man who was unable to speak. ³³ And after* the demon had been expelled, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished, saying, "_⌊This has never been seen before_⌋* in Israel!" ³⁴ But the Pharisees were saying,* "By the ruler of demons he expels the demons!"

¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, "You are the Son of God!"

³⁵ And* his ears were opened and _⌊his difficulty in speaking was removed_⌋* and he began to speak normally. ³⁶ And he ordered them that they should say nothing, but as much as he ordered them not to, they proclaimed it* even more instead. ³⁷ And they were amazed beyond all measure, saying, "He has done all things well! He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak!"

¹⁷ And one individual from the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought to you my son who has _⌊a spirit that makes him mute_⌋.* ¹⁸ And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down and he foams at the mouth and grinds his* teeth and becomes paralyzed. And I told your disciples that they should expel it, and they were not able to do so.* ¹⁹ And he answered them and* said, "O unbelieving generation! _⌊How long_⌋* will I be with you? _⌊How long_⌋* must I put up with you? Bring him to me!" ²⁰ And they brought him to him. And when he* saw him, the spirit immediately convulsed him, and falling on the ground, he began to roll around, foaming at the mouth. ²¹ And he asked his father how long it was since this had been happening to him. And he said, "From childhood. ²² And often it has thrown him both into fire and into water, in order that it could destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, have compassion on us and* help us!" ²³ But Jesus said to him, "If you are able! All things are possible for the one who believes!" ²⁴ Immediately the father of the child cried out and* said, "I believe! Help my unbelief!" ²⁵ Now when* Jesus saw that a crowd was running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and enter into him no more!" ²⁶ And it came out, screaming and convulsing him* greatly, and he became as if he were dead, so that most of them said, "He has died!"

¹⁴ And he was expelling a mute demon.* Now it happened that when* the demon came out, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished. ¹⁵ But some of them said, "By Beelzebul the ruler of demons he expels demons!"

¹⁸ to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a share among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

²⁷ And as* Jesus was going away from there, two blind men followed him, crying out and saying, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"

³³ And after* the demon had been expelled, the one who had been mute spoke, and the crowds were astonished, saying, "_⌊This has never been seen before_⌋* in Israel!"

²² And behold, a Canaanite woman from that district came and cried out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!"

³⁰ And large crowds came to him, having with them the mute, blind, lame, crippled,* and many others, and they put them down at his feet, and he healed them. ³¹ So then the crowd was astonished when they* saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.

⁹ And the crowds who went ahead of him and the ones who followed were shouting, saying,
"Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!* Hosanna in the highest heaven!"*

⁴² saying, "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "David's." ⁴³ He said to them, "How then does David, by the Spirit, call him 'Lord,' saying,

²⁹ "Come, see a man who told me everything I have ever done! Perhaps this one is the Christ?"

⁴⁰ Then, when they* heard these words, some from the crowd began to say,* "This man is truly the Prophet!" ⁴¹ Others were saying, "This man is the Christ!" But others were saying, "No, for the Christ does not come from Galilee, does he?* ⁴² Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"

³⁴ But the Pharisees were saying,* "By the ruler of demons he expels the demons!"

²² And the scribes who had come down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul!" and "By the ruler of the demons he expels the demons!"

¹⁵ But some of them said, "By Beelzebul the ruler of demons he expels demons!"

² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar.

²¹ Manasseh devoured Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; together they were against Judah. In all of this his anger has not turned away, and still his hand is stretched out.

² "And I will stir up _⌊Egyptians_⌋* against _⌊Egyptians_⌋,* and each one will fight against his brother and each one against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom. ³ And the spirit of _⌊the Egyptians_⌋* will be disturbed in his midst, and I will _⌊confuse_⌋* his plans,* and they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, and the ghosts and the spiritists.

¹⁰ I, Yahweh, examine the _⌊mind_⌋,* I test the _⌊heart_⌋,* and give to each one according to his way, according to the fruit of his deeds.

¹³ Yes, here is the one who forms the mountains, and the one who creates the wind, and the one who reveals to humans what his thoughts are, and the one who treads on the heights of the earth; Yahweh, the God of hosts, is his name!"

⁴ And knowing* their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

⁸ And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they were reasoning like this within themselves, said to them, "Why are you considering these things in your hearts?

²³ And he called them to himself and* was speaking to them in parables, "How can Satan expel Satan? ²⁴ And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom is not able to stand. ²⁵ And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. ²⁶ And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he is not able to stand, but is at an end! ²⁷ But no one is able to enter into the house of a strong man and* plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man, and then he can thoroughly plunder his house.

¹⁷ But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and _⌊a divided household_⌋* falls. ¹⁸ So if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I expel demons by Beelzebul. ¹⁹ But if I expel demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons expel them?* For this reason they will be your judges! ²⁰ But if I expel demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you! ²¹ When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are _⌊safe_⌋.* ²² But when a stronger man attacks him and* conquers him, he takes away his full armor in which he trusted and distributes his plunder.

²⁴ But Jesus himself did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people,* ²⁵ and because he did not _⌊need_⌋* anyone _⌊to testify_⌋* about man, for he himself knew what was in man.*

¹⁷ He said to him a third time, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed because he said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything! You know that I love you!" Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep!

¹¹ For who among men knows the things of a man, except the spirit of the man that is in him? Thus also no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

¹⁵ But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

¹³ And no creature is hidden in the sight of him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of him to whom _⌊we must give our account_⌋*.

²³ And I will kill her children with deadly disease, and all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

¹⁹ And the great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And Babylon the great was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of his furious wrath.*

¹⁶ And the ten horns that you saw and the beast, these will hate the prostitute and will make her desolate and naked, and they will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire. ¹⁷ For God put into their hearts to carry out his purpose and to make _⌊a unanimous decision_⌋* and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"*

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world! Now the ruler of this world will be thrown out!

³⁰ I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has _⌊no power_⌋* _⌊over_⌋* me.

¹¹ and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

⁴ among whom the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, so that they would not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, _⌊whose name_⌋* in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

¹⁰ And the fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became darkened, and they began chewing their tongues because of the pain.

² And he seized the dragon—the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan—and bound him for a thousand years, ³ and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it above him, in order that he could not deceive the nations again until the thousand years are completed. After these things it is necessary for him to be released for a short time.

³⁸ John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." ³⁹ But Jesus said, "Do not prevent him, because there is no one who does a miracle in my name and will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.

⁴⁹ And John answered and* said, "Master, we saw someone expelling demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him, because he does not follow in company with us." ⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, "Do not prevent him,* because whoever is not against you is for you."

¹⁹ But if I expel demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons expel them?* For this reason they will be your judges!

²² He said to him, '_⌊By your own words_⌋* I will judge you, wicked slave! You knew that I am a severe man, withdrawing what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow.

¹³ But some itinerant Jewish exorcists also attempted to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches!" ¹⁴ (Now seven sons of a certain Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.) ¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered and* said to them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I am acquainted with, but who are you?" ¹⁶ And the man _⌊who had the evil spirit_⌋* leaped on them, subdued all of them, and* prevailed against them, so that they ran away from that house naked and wounded.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those under the law, in order that every mouth may be closed and the whole world may become accountable to God.

⁶ For a child has been born for us; a son has been given to us. And the dominion will be on his shoulder, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ _⌊His dominion will grow continually, and to peace there will be no end_⌋* on* the throne of David and over* his kingdom, to establish it* and sustain it with justice and righteousness now and forever. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this.

⁴⁴ And _⌊in the day of those kings_⌋,* the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will _⌊never_⌋* be destroyed, and the kingdom will not be left for another nation,* and it will bring an end to all these kingdoms, but it will stand _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹⁴ And to him was given dominion and glory and kingship that* all the peoples, the nations, and languages would serve him; his dominion is a dominion _⌊without end_⌋* that will not cease, and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and righteousness,* and all these things will be added to you.

¹⁸ "Behold my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his* father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going ahead of you into the kingdom of God!

⁴³ For this reason, I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and will be given to a people* who produce its fruits.

¹⁵ and saying, "The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe in the gospel!"

¹⁰ Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"*

¹⁷ And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will expel demons, they will speak in new tongues,

³² This one will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David. ³³ And he will reign over the house of Jacob _⌊forever_⌋,* and of his kingdom there will be no end.

² and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

¹¹ "Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you! Nevertheless know this: that the kingdom of God has come near!"*

²⁰ But if I expel demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you!

¹⁶ "The law and the prophets were until John; from that time on the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is urgently pressed* into it.

²⁰ Now when he* was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with _⌊things that can be observed_⌋,* ²¹ nor will they say, 'Behold, here it is!' or 'There!' For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst."

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

²⁸ Therefore, since we* are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be thankful, through which let us serve God acceptably, with awe and reverence.

²⁴ Can war-booty be taken from the mighty? or can a captive of a righteous* person be rescued?

¹² Therefore, I will divide to him a portion among the many,* and with the strong ones he will divide bounty, _⌊because_⌋* he poured his life out to death and was counted with the transgressors; and* he was the one who bore the sin of many and will intercede for the transgressors.

²⁷ But no one is able to enter into the house of a strong man and* plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man, and then he can thoroughly plunder his house.

⁸ The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed: in order to destroy the works of the devil.

⁴ You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

⁷ And there was war in heaven; Michael and his angels _⌊fought against_⌋* the dragon, and the dragon and his angels _⌊fought back_⌋*. ⁸ And they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them any longer in heaven. ⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying,
"Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, because the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night.

¹ And I saw an angel descending from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

⁷ And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison ⁸ and he will go out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle, _⌊whose number_⌋* is like the sand of the sea. ⁹ And they went up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the fortified camp of the saints and the beloved city, and fire came down from heaven and consumed them.

¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff between his feet, until Shiloh comes. And to him shall be the obedience of nations.

¹³ And it happened, when Joshua was by Jericho, _⌊he looked up_⌋,* and he saw a man standing _⌊opposite him_⌋* with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said, "Are you with us, or with our adversaries?"

¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."

¹⁷ And David went out _⌊to meet them_⌋* and answered and said to them, "If you come in peace to me, to help me, _⌊my heart will be joined with you_⌋,* but if you come to betray me to my adversaries, although there is no wrong on my hands, may the God of our fathers see and pass judgment." ¹⁸ Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the thirty who said:
"We are yours, O David! And we are with you, O son of Jesse! Peace! Peace to you, and peace to those who help you, for your God helps you."
So David appointed them as heads of the troops.

¹¹ Then the children of Judah and Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves one head; and _⌊they will take possession of_⌋* the land, for great is the day of Jezreel.*

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.*

⁴⁰ For whoever is not against us is for us.

⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, "Do not prevent him,* because whoever is not against you is for you."

²³ The one who is not with me is against me, and the one who does not gather with me scatters.

⁵² and not for the nation only, but also that the children of God who are scattered would be gathered into one.)

¹⁵ And what agreement does Christ have with Beliar? Or what share does a believer have with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,
"I will live in* them and will walk about among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people."*

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they went out*, in order that it might be shown that all of them are not of us.

¹⁵ 'I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! ¹⁶ Thus, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of my mouth!

¹⁸ "Come now, and let us argue," says Yahweh. "Even though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white like snow; even though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the man of sin his thoughts. And let him return to Yahweh, that* he may take pity on him, and to our God, for he will _⌊forgive manifold_⌋.*

¹¹ Say to them, '_⌊As I live_⌋,'* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, '_⌊Surely I have no delight_⌋* in the death of the wicked, _⌊except_⌋* in the wicked returning from his way, and he lives. Turn back! Turn back from your ways, O evil ones, for why should you die, house of Israel?'

³¹ For this reason I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven! ³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him either in this age or in the coming one!

²⁸ "Truly I say to you that all the sins and the blasphemies will be forgiven the sons of men, however much they blaspheme. ²⁹ But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit does not have forgiveness _⌊forever_⌋,* but is guilty of an eternal sin"— ³⁰ because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."

¹⁰ And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him, but to the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you!

¹³ although I* was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, but I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief, ¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord abounded with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. ¹⁵ The saying is trustworthy and worthy of all acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

⁴ For it is impossible concerning those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and become sharers of the Holy Spirit,

²⁶ For if* we keep on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think the person will be considered worthy of who treats with disdain the Son of God and who considers ordinary the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy and who insults the Spirit of grace?

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, so that he will forgive us our* sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹ My little children, I am writing these things to you in order that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one, ² and he* is the propitiation* for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁶ If anyone should see his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he should ask, and he will grant life to him, to those who sin not leading to death. (There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should ask about that.

¹³ And the godless of heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them.

¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a man who is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."*

³¹ For this reason I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven!

⁵⁵ Is not this one the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

²⁹ But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit does not have forgiveness _⌊forever_⌋,* but is guilty of an eternal sin"—

³⁰ _⌊who will not_⌋* receive a hundred times as much now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, together with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.

³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Behold, a man who is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'

²³ And in Hades he lifted up his eyes as he* was in torment and* saw Abraham from a distance, and Lazarus _⌊at his side_⌋.* ²⁴ And he called out and* said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he could dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering pain in this flame!' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you received your good things during your life, and Lazarus likewise bad things. But now he is comforted here, but you are suffering pain. ²⁶ And in addition to all these things, a great chasm has been established between us and you, so that those who want to cross over from here to you are not able to do so,* nor can they cross over from there to us.'

³⁴ And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, ³⁵ but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,

³⁴ But Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."* And they cast lots to divide his clothes.

¹² And there was a lot of grumbling concerning him among the crowds; some were saying, "He is a good man," but others were saying, "No, but he deceives the crowd."

³⁹ Now he said this concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were about to receive. For the Spirit was not yet given,* because Jesus had not yet been glorified.)

⁵² They answered and said to him, "You are not also from Galilee, are you?* Investigate and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee!"
