³ I will not set before my eyes any wicked thing. I hate the work of those who fall away;* it will not cling to me.

⁸ They have turned aside quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a cast-image bull calf, and they bowed to it, and they sacrificed to it, and they said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'"

¹⁷ And let not something cling to your hand from the things devoted to destruction, so that Yahweh may turn back _⌊from his burning anger_⌋,* and he may show compassion to you and he may continue to show compassion and so multiply you _⌊just as he swore_⌋* to your ancestors,*

⁹ _⌊Take care_⌋* so that there* will not be _⌊a thought of wickedness_⌋* in your heart, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'The seventh year, the year of the remission of debt is near,' _⌊and you view your needy neighbor with hostility_⌋,* and so you do not give to him, and he might cry out against you to Yahweh, and _⌊you would incur guilt against yourself_⌋.*

⁶ Be very strong to observe carefully all that is written in the scroll of the law of Moses so as not to turn aside from it, to the right or left,

²⁰ And Samuel said to the people, "Do not fear! You have done all this evil; only do not turn aside from _⌊following_⌋* Yahweh. But you must serve Yahweh with all your heart. ²¹ And do not turn aside after the triviality,* which have no value and cannot deliver, for they are triviality.

¹¹ "I regret that I made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not kept my word." _⌊Samuel became angry_⌋,* and he cried out to Yahweh all night.

² It happened _⌊late one afternoon_⌋* that David got up from his bed and walked about on the roof of the king's house, and he saw a woman bathing on her* roof. Now the woman _⌊was very beautiful_⌋.* ³ David sent and inquired about the woman, and someone said, "Is this not Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"

² Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, "Give me your vineyard that it may be mine for a garden of vegetable plants, because it is near, beside my house, and I will give to you a better vineyard in place of it. If it is better in your eyes, I will give you the money of its price." ³ Naboth said to Ahab, "Far be it from me from Yahweh that I should give the inheritance of my ancestors* to you." ⁴ Then Ahab went to his house, sullen and angry because of the word that Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him when he had said, "I will not give to you the inheritance of my ancestors."* So he lay on his bed, turned away his face, and would not eat any food. ⁵ Then Jezebel his wife came to him, and she said to him, "What is this, that your spirit is sullen and you are not eating food?" ⁶ Then he said to her, "When I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite and asked him, 'Give me your vineyard for money, or it you prefer, I will give you a vineyard in place of it,' he said, 'I will not give you my vineyard.'" ⁷ Jezebel his wife said to him, "Now, you _⌊rule_⌋* over Israel. Get up, eat food, and let your heart be _⌊cheerful_⌋.* I myself will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite." ⁸ So she wrote letters in the name of Ahab and sealed them with his seal. She sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling with Naboth in his city. ⁹ She had written in the letters, saying, "Call a fast and seat Naboth at the head of the people. ¹⁰ Seat two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* opposite him. Let them witness against him saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then you shall bring him out and stone him so that he dies." ¹¹ The men of his city and the elders and nobles who were living in his city did according to what Jezebel had sent to them, as was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They called a fast, and they seated Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ Then the two men, _⌊scoundrels_⌋,* came, sat opposite him, and the _⌊scoundrels_⌋* witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died. ¹⁴ They sent to Jezebel saying, "Naboth has been stoned, and he is dead." ¹⁵ It happened at the moment Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and died, Jezebel said to Ahab, "Get up, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite which he had refused to give to you for money, for Naboth is not alive, but dead." ¹⁶ When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite to take possession of it. ¹⁷ The word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ¹⁸ "Arise, go down to meet Ahab the king of Israel who is in Samaria. Look in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone to take possession of it. ¹⁹ You shall say to him, 'Thus says Yahweh: "Have you committed murder and also taken possession?" ' You shall also say to him, 'Thus says Yahweh: "In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, the dogs will also lick your blood." '" ²⁰ Then Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, my enemy?" He said, "I have found you because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of Yahweh. ²¹ 'Look, I am bringing disaster on you, and I will sweep away after you. I will cut off for Ahab _⌊every male_⌋* in Israel, bond or free. ²² I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, _⌊because you made me angry_⌋* and have caused Israel to sin.' ²³ Moreover, concerning Jezebel, Yahweh has said, 'The dogs will eat Jezebel in the outer rampart of Jezreel.' ²⁴ The one who dies for Ahab in the city, the dogs will eat; the one who dies in the open country, the birds of heaven will eat." ²⁵ Truly, there was no one like Ahab who had sold himself by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh, whose wife Jezebel urged him on. ²⁶ Also, he acted very abominably by going after idols like all the Amorites had done whom Yahweh had driven out from before the _⌊Israelites_⌋."* ²⁷ When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes and put sackcloth over his flesh, fasted, lay in the sackcloth, and went about dejectedly. ²⁸ Then the word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ "Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring disaster in his days. I will bring the disaster on his house in the days of his son."

¹ "I made a covenant with my eyes, so* how could I look closely upon a virgin?

³ All have gone astray; they are altogether corrupt. There is not one who does good; there is not even one.

²⁰ Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me. ²¹ Because I have kept the ways of Yahweh, and have not acted wickedly against my God, ²² because all his ordinances are before me, and his statutes I have not removed from me, ²³ and I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from my guilt.

⁴ I do not sit with deceitful people, nor will I go about with hypocrites. ⁵ I hate the crowd of evildoers, and with the wicked I will not sit.

³ The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit. He has ceased to have insight and to do good.

I said, "I will guard my ways _⌊that I may not sin_⌋* with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

⁴ Blessed is the man who makes Yahweh his trust and does not turn to the proud and to those who fall away to a lie.*

⁴¹ So they again tested God and distressed* the Holy One of Israel.

⁵⁷ And they turned and were treacherous like their ancestors.* They twisted like a crooked* bow.

¹⁰ You who love Yahweh, hate evil. He protects the lives of his faithful; he delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

³⁷ Turn away my eyes from looking at what is worthless; revive me in your ways.

¹¹³ I hate _⌊the double-minded_⌋,* but I love your law.

⁵ But regarding those who turn aside to their crooked ways, Yahweh will lead them away with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.

²⁵ Do not desire her beauty in your heart; may she not capture you with her eyelashes.

³¹ Do not look at wine when it is red, when it _⌊sparkles_⌋* on the cup, going down smoothly. ³² _⌊In the end_⌋,* it will bite like a serpent, and it will sting like an adder. ³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart* will speak perverse things. ³⁴ And you will be like him who lies down in the heart of the sea, and like him who lies down on top of a mast. ³⁵ "They struck me; I was not hurt. They beat me; I did not know it. When I will awake, I will continue; I will seek it again."

⁹ _⌊Better to be content with what your eyes see than for your soul to constantly crave more_⌋.* This also is vanity and chasing wind!

¹¹ turn aside from the way, turn aside from the path, put an end to the holy one of Israel from our face."

¹⁵ He who walks in righteousness and speaks uprightness, who rejects the gain of extortion, who _⌊refuses_⌋* a bribe, who stops up his ears* from hearing _⌊bloodshed_⌋* and shuts his eyes from seeing evil.

¹⁷ "But there is nothing in your eyes and your heart _⌊except_⌋* your unlawful gain, and on shedding the blood of the innocent, and on committing oppression and extortion."

⁶ Because they are kindled* like an oven, their heart burns within them; all night their anger _⌊smolders_⌋,* in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. ⁷ All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour* their rulers. All their kings have fallen; there is none who calls to me amongst them.

² They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and they take them away. They oppress a man and his house; a man and his inheritance.

⁵ and those who bow down on the rooftops to the host of heaven, and those who bow down, swearing to Yahweh but also swearing by Milkom,* ⁶ and those who turned back from _⌊following_⌋* Yahweh, and who did not seek Yahweh, and did not inquire of him."

²⁸ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

⁹ Love must be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; be attached to what is good,

⁹ But now, because you have come to know God, or rather have come to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental spirits? Do you want to be enslaved to them* all over again?

³⁹ But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but among those who have faith to the preservation of our souls.

¹³ No one who is being tempted should say, "I am being tempted by God," for God _⌊cannot be tempted_⌋* by evil, and he himself tempts no one. ¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he* is dragged away and enticed by his own desires. ¹⁵ Then desire, after it* has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it* is brought to completion, gives birth to death.

²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than having known it, to turn back from the holy commandment that had been delivered to them.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us. But they went out*, in order that it might be shown that all of them are not of us.
