In my distress I called to Yahweh, and he answered me. ² "Deliver my life, O Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue." ³ What shall be given to you,* and what more shall be done to you, deceitful tongue? ⁴ The sharpened arrows of a warrior, with burning charcoals from broom trees. ⁵ Woe to me, that I sojourn in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar. ⁶ Too long my soul has had its dwelling near one who hates peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁶ In my trouble I called on Yahweh, and to my God I cried for help. He heard my voice from his temple, and my cry for help came up before his presence into his ears.

⁷ O Yahweh, by your favor you caused my strong mountain to stand. You hid your face. I was bewildered. ⁸ To you, O Yahweh, I called, and to the Lord I pleaded for grace saying,

¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me."

² Do not hide your face from me in the day of my trouble. Incline your ear to me. In the day I call, answer me quickly,

¹³ Then they called to Yahweh for help in their trouble; he saved them from their distresses.

³ The ropes of death encircled me, and the distresses of Sheol found me. I found trouble and grief. ⁴ Then I called on the name of Yahweh: "O Yahweh, please save my life!"

⁵ Out of my distress I called to Yah.* Yah answered me, setting me in a broad place.

Those who trust in Yahweh are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

Look, bless Yahweh, all you the servants of Yahweh, who _⌊serve_⌋* in the house* of Yahweh by night.

³ And they said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah: 'This day is a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace, for children have come to the cervical opening, and there is no strength to give birth. ⁴ Maybe Yahweh your God heard the words of Rabshakeh whom the king of Assyria, his master, has sent to taunt the living God, and he will rebuke the words that Yahweh your God hears. And you must lift up a prayer for the benefit of the remnant that is found.'"

¹⁴ And Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers, and he read* it. Then* he went up to the temple* of Yahweh, and Hezekiah spread it out before the _⌊presence_⌋* of Yahweh. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying, ¹⁶ "Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel _⌊who is enthroned on_⌋* the cherubim, you are the one, God by yourself, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you are the one who made the heavens and the earth. ¹⁷ Yahweh, extend your ear and hear! Yahweh, open your eyes and see, and hear all the words of Sennacherib that he has sent to taunt the living God! ¹⁸ Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the lands* and their land, ¹⁹ to _⌊set_⌋* their gods in the fire, for they were not gods, but the work of human hands, wood and stone, and they destroyed them. ²⁰ So* now, Yahweh, our God, save us from his hand so that* all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, you alone!"

² Then* Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, ³ and he said, "O Yahweh, please remember how* I have walked before your _⌊presence_⌋* in faithfulness with a whole heart, and I have done the good in your eyes!" And Hezekiah wept with great weeping. ⁴ Then* the word of Yahweh came* to Isaiah, saying, ⁵ "Go and say to Hezekiah, 'Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your ancestor:* "I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. _⌊Look, I am going to_⌋* add fifteen years to your days.

"I called _⌊from my distress_⌋* to Yahweh, and he answered me; from the belly of Sheol* I cried for help— you heard my voice.

⁴⁴ And being in anguish, he began praying* more fervently and his sweat became like drops of blood falling down to the ground.*

⁷ who in the days of his flesh offered up both prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard as a result of his reverence.

¹¹ Violent witnesses rise up; they ask me concerning what I do not know.

² Your tongue plans destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceit. ³ You love evil more than good, a lie more than speaking _⌊what is right_⌋.* Selah ⁴ You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue,

O God of my praise, do not keep silent, ² for _⌊wicked and deceitful mouths_⌋* have opened against me. They speak to me with a lying tongue.

Rescue me, O Yahweh, from evil men.* Preserve me from violent men, ² who plan evil things in their heart. They stir up wars continually. ³ They sharpen their tongue as sharp as a snake's; the venom of a viper is under their lips. Selah

²² An abomination of Yahweh are lips of deceit, but they who act faithfully are his delight.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death. ⁶⁰ And they did not find it,* although* many false witnesses came forward. And finally two came forward ⁶¹ and* said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it* within three days.'" ⁶² And the high priest stood up and* said to him, "Do you reply nothing? What are these people testifying against you?"

⁸ for what is the hope of the godless when he cuts them off, when God takes away his life?

²⁶ For what will a person be benefited if he gains the whole world but forfeits his life? Or what will a person give in exchange for his life?

²¹ Therefore what sort of fruit did you have then, about which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

²³ I will heap disasters upon them; my arrows I will spend on them. ²⁴ They will become weakened by famine, and consumed by plague and bitter pestilence; and the teeth of wild animals I will send against them, with the poison of the creeping things in the dust;

¹³ And he has prepared for him weapons of death. He has made his arrows fiery shafts.

⁵ Your arrows are sharp; peoples fall under you in the midst of the king's enemies.

⁵ but God will pull you down forever. He will snatch you and tear you away from your tent, and he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie down among those who devour— the children* of humankind whose teeth are spears and arrows and whose tongues are sharp swords.

⁷ Look, they pour out talk with their mouth. Swords are on their lips, for they say, "Who hears?"

⁹ With respect to the head of those who surround me, may the harm of their lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals fall on them; let them be dropped into the fire, into bottomless pits from which they cannot rise. ¹¹ Do not let a _⌊slanderer_⌋* be established in the land; as for the man of violence, let evil hunt him quickly.

⁹ With a mouth, the godless shall destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.

¹² He who lacks _⌊sense_⌋* belittles his neighbor, but a person of intelligence will remain silent.

¹⁸ The wicked earns* _⌊deceptive gain_⌋,* but he who sows righteousness, a _⌊true reward_⌋.*

²⁷ A man of wickedness concocts evil, and his lips are like a scorching fire.

⁸ The words of a whisper are like delicious morsels, and they themselves go down to inner parts of the body.

²¹ Death and life are in the _⌊power_⌋* of the tongue, and those who love her* will eat of her fruit.

⁵ A witness of falsehood will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will not escape.

⁹ A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes lies will perish.

⁵ So also the tongue is a small member of the body* and boasts great things. Behold how small a fire sets ablaze how great a forest! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire! The world of unrighteousness,* the tongue, is set among our members, defiling the whole body and setting on fire _⌊the course of human existence_⌋*, being set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every species of animals and birds, of reptiles and sea creatures, is being tamed and has been tamed by the human species, ⁸ but no human being is able to tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

⁸ But as for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

¹ Now Samuel died, and all Israel assembled and mourned for him. They buried him at his house at Ramah. Then David got up and went down to the wilderness of Paran.

⁵ I am black but beautiful,* _⌊O maidens of Jerusalem_⌋,* like the tents of Kedar, like the curtains of Solomon.

⁶ A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young male camels of Midian and Ephah. All those from Sheba shall come; they shall bring gold and frankincense, and they shall proclaim the praise of Yahweh. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth shall serve you. They shall present a sacrifice for favor on my altar, and I will glorify _⌊my honorable house_⌋.*

² _⌊Oh that I had_⌋* in the desert a place of overnight lodging for travelers, that I may leave my people and go from them, for all of them are adulterers, a band of traitors. ³ And they bend their tongue like their bow, for falsehood and not truth is superior in the land, for they go forth* from evil to evil, and they do not know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁶ Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit, upon* deceit they refuse to know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁰ Woe to me, O my mother, that you gave birth to me, a man of contention and quarreling _⌊to the whole land_⌋.* I have not lent out and _⌊I have not borrowed_⌋.* All of them are cursing me.

²⁸ Concerning Kedar and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor that Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon defeated. Thus says Yahweh:
"Rise up, go up against Kedar and destroy the people* of the east. ²⁹ They will take their tents, and their flocks, their tent curtains, and all their equipment, and their camels they will carry away for themselves, and they will call to them, 'Terror is from all around.'

¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders; _⌊in exchange for people_⌋* and an object of bronze they gave you your wares.

²¹ Arabia and all of the leaders of Kedar were _⌊your customers_⌋;* with young rams and adult rams and goats they were trading with them with you.

² "Son of man,* set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the head* leader of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him. ³ And you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am against you, Gog, the head* leader of Meshach and Tubal,

¹ "And you, son of man,* prophesy against Gog, and you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am against you Gog, the head* leader of Meshech and Tubal,

¹ Woe is me! For I have become like the gatherings of summer, like the gleanings of the grape harvest, when there is no cluster of grapes to eat or early ripened fruit that my soul desires. ² The faithful person has perished from the land, and there is none who is upright among humankind. All of them lie in wait; each hunts his brother with a net.

⁷ and rescued righteous Lot, worn down by the way of life of lawless persons in licentiousness ⁸ (for that righteous man, as he* lived among them day after day, was tormenting his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he was seeing and hearing),

¹³ 'I know where you live, where the throne of Satan is. And you hold fast to my name and did not deny your* faith in me, even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan lives.

³⁰ Then _⌊Saul became angry_⌋* at Jonathan and said to him, "You son of a perverse, rebellious woman!* Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For _⌊as long as_⌋* the son of Jesse is alive on the earth, you and your kingdom will not be established! So then, send and bring him to me, for _⌊he will surely die_⌋!"* ³² But Jonathan answered his father Saul and said to him, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" ³³ Then Saul hurled his* spear at him to kill him. So Jonathan knew _⌊that his father had decided_⌋* to kill David.

⁶ And you, son of man,* you must not be afraid of them, and you must not be afraid of their words, because* briers and thorns are with you, and you are sitting among scorpions. You must not be afraid of their words, and you must not be dismayed because of their _⌊looks_⌋,* for they are a rebellious house.

¹⁶ "Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

³⁶ And the enemies of a man will be the members of his household.*

³ For we also were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, enslaved to various desires and pleasures, spending our lives in wickedness and envy, despicable, hating one another.

⁹ Then David said to Saul, "Why do you listen to the words of people who say: 'Look, David is _⌊seeking to do you harm_⌋'?* ¹⁰ Look, this day your eyes have seen that Yahweh gave you today into my hand in the cave, and some said to kill you. But _⌊I took pity_⌋* on you and said, 'I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, because he is Yahweh's anointed one.' ¹¹ Now, my father, see, yes, see, the hem of your robe in my hand! For _⌊when I cut_⌋* the hem of your robe I did not kill you. Know and _⌊realize_⌋* that there is no evil or rebellion in my hand. I did not sin against you, but you are hunting down my life to take it.

² Then Saul got up and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, and three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. ³ Now Saul was on the hill of Hakilah, which is opposite Jeshimon by the road, but David was staying in the wilderness. When he realized that Saul had come to the wilderness after him, ⁴ David sent spies, and he learned that Saul had come _⌊for certain_⌋.*

¹⁹ I am one of the faithful representatives of Israel. You are seeking to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow the inheritance of Yahweh?"

¹⁴ Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.

²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but against the quiet ones of the land they plan deceitful words.

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against _⌊his friends_⌋;* he has defiled his covenant.

⁴ In return for my love they accuse me, though I am in prayer.*

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called sons of God.

¹⁸ If it is possible on your part, be at peace with all people.

¹⁴ For he himself is our peace, who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of the partition, the enmity, in his flesh, ¹⁵ invalidating the law of commandments in ordinances, in order that he might create the two in himself into one new man, thus* making peace, ¹⁶ and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, killing the enmity in himself.* ¹⁷ And coming, he proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to the ones who were near,

¹⁴ Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.
