¹ Let as many as are slaves under a yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name and teaching of God may not be blasphemed.

⁷ And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived then in the land. ⁸ And Abram said to Lot, Please let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are men, brothers.

⁹ And the Angel of Jehovah said to her, Return to your mistress and submit yourself under her hand.

² And Abraham said to his slave, oldest in his house, the one who governed in all that was to him, Please put your hand under my thigh.

¹² And he said, Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, I pray, cause her to meet before me this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

²⁷ And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, who has not left off His kindness and His truth with my master, I being in the way, Jehovah guided me to the house of the brother of my master.

³⁵ And Jehovah has blessed my master much, and he is great. And He has given to him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and male slaves and slave-girls, and camels and asses. ³⁶ And my master's wife bore a son to my master when she was old, and he has given to him all that is his. ³⁷ And my master caused me to swear, saying, You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I live. ³⁸ But you shall go to the house of my father and to my family and you shall take a wife for my son. ³⁹ And I said to my master, Perhaps the woman will not go after me. ⁴⁰ And he said to me, Jehovah, before whom I walk, will send His Angel with you and prosper your way. And you shall take a wife for my son from my family, from my father's house. ⁴¹ Then you shall be released from my oath, when you have come to my family, and if they do not give one to you; then you shall be released from my oath. ⁴² And today I came to the well. And I said, Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, I pray, if You will, prosper the way in which I am about to go. ⁴³ Behold! I stand at the well of water, and when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she says to me, Both you drink and also I will draw for your camels, may she be the woman whom Jehovah has designed for my master's son. ⁴⁵ Before I had finished speaking within my heart, even behold, Rebekah was coming out, her pitcher on her shoulder. And she went down to the well and drew. And I said to her, Please let me drink. ⁴⁶ And she hurried and let down her pitcher from her and said, Drink, and I also will water your camels. And I drank, and also she watered the camels. ⁴⁷ And I asked her and I said, Whose daughter are you? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel the son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him. And I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands. ⁴⁸ And I bowed and worshiped Jehovah, and I blessed Jehovah, God of my master Abraham, who had guided me in the true way, to take for his son the daughter of the brother of my master. ⁴⁹ And now, if you are going to do kindness and truth with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me so that I may turn to the right or to the left. ⁵⁰ And Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing has come from Jehovah; we are not able to speak to you good or evil. ⁵¹ Behold! Rebekah is before you, take her and go. And let her become the wife of the son of your master, as Jehovah has spoken. ⁵² And it happened when the slave of Abraham heard their words, he bowed himself to the earth to Jehovah. ⁵³ And the slave brought out vessels of silver and vessels of gold and garments, and he gave to Rebekah. And he gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. ⁵⁴ And they ate and drank, he and the men who were with him; and they stayed the night. And they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away to my master. ⁵⁵ And her brother and her mother said, Let the girl stay with us, perhaps ten days. Afterwards she may go. ⁵⁶ And he said to them, Do not delay me, for Jehovah has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master. ⁵⁷ And they said, we will call the girl and ask of her mouth. ⁵⁸ And they called Rebekah and said to her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go. ⁵⁹ And they sent away their sister Rebekah, and her nurse, and Abraham's slave and his men. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah, and said to her, Our sister, may you become myriads of thousands, and may your seed possess the gate of their haters. ⁶¹ And Rebekah and her young women rose up, and they rode on the camels and went after the man. And the slave took Rebekah and went. ⁶² And Isaac had come from the gate of the Well of the Living One My Beholder. And he was dwelling in the land of the Negeb. ⁶³ And Isaac had gone out to meditate in the field as it turned evening. And he raised his eyes and looked. And behold, camels were coming. ⁶⁴ And Rebekah lifted her eyes and she saw Isaac. And she dismounted from the camel. ⁶⁵ And she said to the slave, Who is this man walking in the field to meet us? And the slave said, It is my master. And she took the veil and covered herself. ⁶⁶ And the slave told Isaac all the things that he had done. ⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah. And he took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother.

⁴⁸ and you shall serve your enemies whom Jehovah shall send on you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in lack of all things . And He shall put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.

¹⁴ Only, because you have made the enemies of Jehovah to scorn derisively by this thing, also the son who shall be born to you shall surely die.

² And the Syrians had gone out in bands, and they seized from the land of Israel a little girl. And she was before Naaman's wife. ³ And she said to her mistress, Oh that my lord were before the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would recover him from his leprosy.

¹³ And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, My father, if the prophet had spoken a great thing to you would you not do it ? How much rather then when he says to you, Wash, and be clean?

⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah said, Stand up! Bless Jehovah your God forever and ever. And blessed be the Name of Your Glory, even He being exalted above all blessing and praise.

⁶ I was angry with My people; I defiled My inheritance and gave them into your hand. You gave them no mercy; you made your yoke on the aged very heavy.

⁵ So then what is to Me here, declares Jehovah? For My people is taken for nothing; his rulers howl, declares Jehovah. And My name is continually despised, every day.

⁶ Is this not the fast I have chosen: to open bands of wickedness, to undo thongs of the yoke, and to let the oppressed ones go free; even that you pull off every yoke?

²⁰ And when they entered into the nations, there where they went, they even profaned My holy name, by saying to them, These are the people of Jehovah, and they are gone out of His land.

²³ And I will sanctify My great name which was profaned among the nations, which you profaned among them. And the nations shall know that I am Jehovah, declares the Lord Jehovah, when I am sanctified in you in their eyes.

⁶ A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says Jehovah of hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. But you say, In what have we despised Your name?

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and one more excellent than a prophet.

³⁰ For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

¹ And He said to the disciples, It is impossible that the offenses should not come, but woe to him by whom they come!

⁷ And when the angel speaking to Cornelius went away, calling two of his servants and a devout soldier of those continually waiting on him,

²² And they said, Cornelius, a centurion, a just man and one fearing God, and being testified to by all the nation of the Jews, was divinely warned by a holy angel to call you to his house and to hear words from you.

¹⁰ Now, then, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we had strength to bear?

²⁴ For the name of God is blasphemed among the nations through you, even as it has been written: Isa. 52:5

²¹ Were you called as a slave? It does not matter to you. But if you are able to be free, rather use it . ²² For the one called a slave in the Lord is a freed man of the Lord. And likewise, the one called a free man is a slave of Christ.

³² Be without offense both to Jews and Greeks, and to the church of God.

¹ Then stand firm in the freedom with which Christ made us free and do not be held again with a yoke of slavery.

⁵ Slaves, obey your lords according to flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ; ⁶ not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ doing the will of God from the soul, ⁷ serving as slaves with good will to the Lord, and not as to men, ⁸ each one knowing that whatever good thing he does, this he shall receive from the Lord, whether a slave or a freeman.

²² Slaves, obey the lords according to flesh in all respects, not with eye-service as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. ²³ And whatever you may do, work from the soul as to the Lord and not to men, ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord you shall receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ. ²⁵ But the one doing wrong will receive what he did wrong, and there is no respect of persons.

¹⁴ Therefore, I desire the young women to marry, to bear children, to rule the house, giving no occasion to the adversary on account of reproach.

⁵ discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be blasphemed,

⁸ in sound speech, not to be condemned; that he who is opposed may he ashamed, having nothing bad to say about you. ⁹ Let slaves be subject to their own masters, well-pleasing in all things, not speaking against them, ¹⁰ not stealing, but showing all good faith, that they may adorn the doctrine of our Savior God in all things.

¹² having your behavior good among the nations, in that which they speak against you as evildoers; by observing your good works, they may glorify God in a day of visitation.

¹⁷ honor all, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. ¹⁸ Servants, be obedient to your masters in all fear, not only to those good and forbearing, but also to the perverse ones . ¹⁹ For this is a grace, if because of conscience toward God anyone bears grief, suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what glory is it if you patiently endure while sinning and being buffeted? But if you are suffering while doing good, and patiently endure, this is a grace from God.

¹⁶ having a good conscience, that while they speak against you as evildoers, they may be shamed, those falsely accusing your good behavior in Christ.
