¹⁷ By faith, being tested, Abraham offered up Isaac; and he receiving the promises was offering up the only begotten,

¹ And it happened after these things, testing Abraham, God said to him, Abraham! And he said, Behold me. ² And He said, Now take your son, Isaac, your only one whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. And there offer him for a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will say to you. ³ And Abraham started up early in the morning and saddled his ass, and he took two of his youths with him, and his son Isaac. And he split wood for a burnt offering, and rose up and went to the place which God had said to him. ⁴ And on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from a distance. ⁵ And Abraham said to his young men, You stay here with the ass. I and the boy will go on to that place, that we may worship, and may return to you. ⁶ And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac; and he took the fire and the knife in his hand. And the two went together. ⁷ And Isaac spoke to his father Abraham and said, My father. And he said, Behold me. And he said, Behold, the fire and the wood! But where is the lamb for a burnt offering? ⁸ And Abraham said, My son, God will see to the lamb for Himself, for a burnt offering. And the two of them went together. ⁹ And they came to the place which God had said to him. And Abraham built there the altar, and arranged the wood. And he bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on the wood. ¹⁰ And Abraham put out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. ¹¹ And the Angel of Jehovah called to him from the heavens and said, Abraham! And he said, Behold me. ¹² And He said, Do not lay your hand on the boy, nor do anything to him. For now I know that you are a God-fearer, and you have not withheld your son, your only one, from Me.

¹⁶ And He said, I have sworn by Myself, declares Jehovah, that on account of this thing you have done, and not have withheld your son, your only son,

² And you shall remember all the way which Jehovah your God has caused you to go these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble you, to try you, to know that which is in your heart, whether you will keep His commandments or not.

³¹ Even so with the envoys of the rulers of Babylon, those sent to him to inquire of the wonder that had been in the land, God left him to test him, to know all his heart.

¹¹ But put out Your hand now, and touch against all that is his, and see if he will not then curse You to Your face. ¹² And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that is his is in your hand! Only, do not lay your hand on him. And Satan went out from the face of Jehovah.

³ And Jehovah said to Satan, Have you set your heart on My servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, fearing God, and turning away from evil? And he is still holding to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to swallow him for nothing. ⁴ And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Skin for skin. Yea, all that a man has he will give for his life. ⁵ But indeed put out Your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse You to Your face. ⁶ And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, He is in your hand; but preserve his life.

³ The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.

³⁵ And many of those who understand shall stumble, to refine and to purge them, and to make white to the time of the end. For it is yet for the appointed time.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and I will refine them as silver is refined. And I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, It is My people, and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.

² But who can endure the day of His coming? And who will stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire and like fuller's soap. ³ And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and He shall purify the sons of Levi and purge them like gold and like silver, that they may be presenters of a food offering in righteousness to Jehovah.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

¹² For if the eagerness is present, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

⁶ but he not counting his genealogy from them has tithed Abraham, and has blessed the one having the promises.

² My brothers count it all joy when you fall into various trials, ³ knowing that the proving of your faith works patience. ⁴ But let patience have its perfective work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

²¹ Was not our father Abraham justified by works offering up his son Isaac on the altar? Gen. 22:9 ²² You see that faith worked with his works; and out of the works the faith was made perfected. ²³ And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying, "And Abraham believed God, and it was counted for righteousness to him;" and he was called, Friend of God. Gen. 15:6; Isa. 41:8 ²⁴ You see, then, that a man is justified out of works, and not out of faith only.

¹¹ Behold, we call those blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and you saw the end of the Lord, "that the Lord is full of tender mercy and pity." Psa. 103:8

⁶ in which you exult; yet a little while, if need be, grieving in manifold trials, ⁷ so that the proving of your faith, much more precious than perishing gold, but having been proved through fire, may be found to praise and honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

¹² Beloved, do not be astonished at the fiery trial happening among you for your testing, as if a surprise were occurring to you;

¹⁰ Because you kept the word of My patience, I also will keep you out of the hour of trial which is going to come on all the habitable world in order to try those dwelling on the earth.
