⁵³ They have cut off my life in the pit, and they threw a stone at me.

¹⁶ When Jeremiah had gone into the house of the pit, and into the cells, then Jeremiah remained there many days.

²⁰ And now hear, I beg you, O my lord the king, please let my plea fall before you, so that you do not make me return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I not die there.

⁶ And they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guardhouse. And they let Jeremiah down with ropes. But no water was in the pit, only mud. So Jeremiah sank into the mud.

⁹ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have thrown into the pit. And he has died in his place because of the famine, for there is no more food in the city.

¹⁷ And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den. And the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his nobles, that the affair may not change concerning Daniel.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock. And rolling a great stone to the door of the tomb, he departed.

⁶⁶ And going along with the guard, they made the grave secure, sealing the stone.
