²² When the young man heard this word, he went away sad, for he had great possessions.

²⁴ No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and like the other; or he will honor one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (wealth).

²² That which was sown among thistles, this is he who hears the word, but worldly thoughts and the deception caused by riches choke the word, and it becomes fruitless.

⁹ And the king was very sorry; but because of the oaths and the guests, he commanded that it be given to her.

⁵ Mortify therefore your earthly members: immorality, uncleanness, intemperate desires, evil lusts, and covetousness, for these are idolatry;
