⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, I am cut off.

¹¹ My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the desires of my heart. ¹² They set night for day; the light is near in the face of darkness. ¹³ If I wait for the grave as my home, I have made my bed in the darkness; ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father; to the worm, My mother and my sister! ¹⁵ And where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our descent together is in the dust.

⁴ The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

²² For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before Your eyes; surely You heard the voice of my cries, when I cried to You.

¹⁵ Do not let the flood of waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth on me.

⁴ then the waters would have flowed over us, the stream would have gone over our soul; ⁵ then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

¹⁰ I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave; I have numbered the rest of my years. ¹¹ I said, I shall not see Jah, Jehovah, in the land of the living; I shall look on man no more with the people of the world. ¹² My generation is departed and removed from me like a shepherd's tent; I have cut off my life like a weaver; He will cut me off from the loom; from day even to night You will make an end of me. ¹³ I place Him before me until morning, that, as a lion, so He breaks all my bones; from day even until night You make an end of me.

¹⁸ And I said, My strength and my hope from Jehovah are gone.

¹¹ And He said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, Our bones are dried and our hope is lost; we are cut off by ourselves.

³ For You cast me into the depths of the seas, and the current surrounded me. All Your breakers and Your waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, I am cast off from Your eyes, yet I will look again toward Your holy temple. ⁵ Waters encompassed me, even to the soul; the depth closed around me; the seaweed was bound to my head.

⁸ For, brothers, we would not have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength; so much so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; ¹⁰ who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver; in whom we trust that He will yet deliver us,
