And Moab was distressed because of the sons of Israel. ⁴ And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this company is licking up all around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. ⁵ He sent messengers therefore to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, by the river of the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying, Behold! A people come out from Egypt. Behold! They cover the face of the earth, and they are staying across from me. ⁶ Therefore, I pray you, come now and curse this people for me. For they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall prevail so that we may strike them, and so that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed. ⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian pulled up stakes with the rewards of divination in their hand. And they came to Balaam and spoke the words of Balak to him. ⁸ And he said to them, Stay here tonight, and I will bring you word again, as Jehovah shall speak to me. And the leaders of Moab stayed with Balaam. ⁹ And God came to Balaam and said, What men are these with you? ¹⁰ And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, ¹¹ Behold! A people has come out of Egypt which covers the face of the earth. Come now, curse them for me. Perhaps, I shall be able to overcome them and drive them out. ¹² And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed. ¹³ And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the leaders of Balak, Go into your land, for Jehovah refuses to let me go with you. ¹⁴ And the leaders of Moab rose up. And they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us. ¹⁵ And Balak sent leaders again, more and more honorable than those. ¹⁶ And they came to Balaam and said to him, So says Balak the son of Zippor, Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me. ¹⁷ For I will raise you up to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then and curse this people for me. ¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more. ¹⁹ But please now stay here also this night so that I may know what more Jehovah will say to me. ²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them. But still, the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do. ²¹ And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass, and went with the rulers of Moab. ²² And God's anger was kindled because he went. And the Angel of Jehovah stood in the way as an enemy against him. And he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants with him. ²³ And the ass saw the Angel of Jehovah standing in the way, and His sword drawn in His hand. And the ass turned aside out of the way and went into the field. And Balaam struck the ass, to turn her into the way. ²⁴ But the Angel of Jehovah stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall on this side, and a wall on that side. ²⁵ And when the ass saw the Angel of Jehovah, she pushed herself into the wall and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall. And he struck her again. ²⁶ And the Angel of Jehovah went further and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left. ²⁷ And when the ass saw the Angel of Jehovah, she fell down under Balaam. And Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the ass with a staff. ²⁸ And Jehovah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times? ²⁹ And Balaam said to the ass, Because you have mocked me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you. ³⁰ And the ass said to Balaam, Am I not your ass, upon which you have ridden ever since I was yours, to this day? Was I ever known to do so to you? And he said, No. ³¹ Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of Jehovah standing in the way, and His sword drawn in His hand. And he bowed down his head, and fell on his face. ³² And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, Why have you beaten your ass these three times? Behold! I went out to be an enemy to you, because your way is perverse before Me. ³³ And the ass saw Me and turned from Me these three times. Unless she had turned from Me, surely now I also would have killed you and saved her alive. ³⁴ And Balaam said to the Angel of Jehovah, I have sinned. For I did not know that You stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases You, I will go back again. ³⁵ And the Angel of Jehovah said to Balaam, Go with the men. But only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak. So Balaam went with the leaders of Balak. ³⁶ And when Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him, to a city of Moab, in the border of Arnon, which is in the outermost border. ³⁷ And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able indeed to lift you up to honor? ³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, Lo, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak. ³⁹ And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kirjath-huzoth. ⁴⁰ And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the leaders that were with him. ⁴¹ And it happened on the next day Balak took Balaam and brought him up into the high places of Baal, so that from there he might see the edge of the people.

²⁰ and from Bamoth in the valley, in the country of Moab, they worked to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward the wilderness.

¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on the other side of Jordan, or forward, because our inheritance has fallen to us on this side of Jordan, eastward.

⁴⁸ And they pulled up stakes from the mountains of Abarim and pitched in the plains of Moab by Jordan at Jericho. ⁴⁹ And they pitched by Jordan, from The House of Deserts to The Meadow of Acacias in the plains of Moab. ⁵⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab beside Jordan, at Jericho, saying,

¹⁵ The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan at Jericho eastward, toward the sunrise.

¹³ These are the commandments and the judgments which Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab beside Jordan, at Jericho.

⁵ beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this Law, saying,

⁸ And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land on this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon to Mount Hermon,

¹ And Moses went up from the plains of Moab to the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah that is opposite Jericho. And Jehovah showed him all the land of Gilead, to Dan,

⁸ And the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. And the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from above stopped and rose up all in a heap, very far from the city Adam that is beside Zaretan. And those that came down toward the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over across from Jericho.

³ And Jehovah listened to the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites. And they completely destroyed them and their cities. And he called the name of the place Hormah.

²⁰ and from Bamoth in the valley, in the country of Moab, they worked to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward the wilderness. ²¹ And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, ²² Let me pass through your land. We will not turn into the fields or into the vineyards. We will not drink the waters of the well. We will go along by the king's highway until we are past your borders. ²³ And Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border. But Sihon gathered all his people, and went out against Israel in the wilderness. And he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel. ²⁴ And Israel struck him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from Arnon to Jabbok, even to the sons of Ammon. For the border of the sons of Ammon was strong. ²⁵ And Israel took all these cities. And Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites in Heshbon, and in all its villages. ²⁶ For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, even to Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore they who speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and prepared. ²⁸ For there has gone out a fire from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons to be runaways, and his daughters to go into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. ³⁰ We have cast them down. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon, and we have laid them waste even to Nophah which is to Medeba. ³¹ So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. ³² And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took its villages and drove out the Amorites who were there. ³³ And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan. And Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to the battle at Edrei. ³⁴ And Jehovah said to Moses, Do not fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people and his land. And you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites who lived at Heshbon. ³⁵ So they struck him and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him alive. And they possessed his land.

²⁵ And now are you any better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them

¹⁵ Then the princes of Edom were terrified. Trembling seized upon the mighty men of Moab. All the people of Canaan shall melt away.

²⁵ Today, I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the nations under the whole heavens; who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.

¹⁰ For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. ¹¹ And we had heard, and our hearts melted, nor did any more spirit remain in any man, because of you. For Jehovah your God, He is God in Heaven above and in earth beneath.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, Truly Jehovah has delivered all the land into our hands, for even all those who live in the country faint because of us.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told your servants how Jehovah your God commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all those who lived in the land from before you; therefore, we were very much afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

⁵ There they dreaded with dread, where no dread was; for God has scattered the bones of him who camps against you; you have put them to shame because God rejects them.

⁵ As the report comes to Egypt, so they shall be grieved at the report of Tyre.

² And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

⁷ And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian pulled up stakes with the rewards of divination in their hand. And they came to Balaam and spoke the words of Balak to him.

¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now. I shall behold him, but not near. There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall strike the corners of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult.

¹⁵ And the Midianite woman's name who was killed was Cosbi, the daughter of Zur. He was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian. ¹⁶ And Jehovah spoke to Moses saying, ¹⁷ Trouble the Midianites and strike them. ¹⁸ For they trouble you with their lies, with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi the daughter of a ruler of Midian, their sister, who was stricken in the day of the plague because of Peor.

⁸ And they killed the kings of Midian, besides the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon (whom Moses struck with the rulers of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, rulers of Sihon, the inhabitants of the land). ²² The sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner, with the sword, among their slain.

³⁸ On all the housetops of Moab, and in its streets, there is weeping for all. For I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure, says Jehovah.

¹⁶ And I will make your seed as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can count the dust of the earth, then shall your seed also be counted.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful, and increased very much, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty. And the land was filled with them. ⁸ And there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. ⁹ And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are many and mightier than we. ¹⁰ Come, let us deal slyly with them, lest they multiply, and it will be when there comes a war, they join also to our enemies, and fight against us, and get out of the land.

⁷ And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, defy Israel.

⁴ because they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way when you came forth out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor, of Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.

²² The sons of Israel also killed Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner, with the sword, among their slain.

⁹ Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you.

¹ On that day they read in the book of Moses in the ears of the people. And in it was found written that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God forever, ² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them so that he should curse them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.

²⁴ And He increased His people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies.

⁵ O My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab planned, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you may know the righteous acts of Jehovah.

¹⁵ who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ but had reproof of his lawbreaking, a dumb ass speaking in a man's voice, held back the madness of the prophet.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they went the way of Cain, and gave themselves up to the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the teachings of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling-block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit fornication.

³ And I will bless those that bless you and curse the one who curses you. And in you shall all families of the earth be blessed.

²⁹ Let people serve you, and let nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone that curses you, and blessed be he that blesses you.

¹² And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.

¹⁷ For I will raise you up to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then and curse this people for me.

⁷ And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, defy Israel. ⁸ How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? Or how shall I defy whom Jehovah has not defied?

⁹ He crouched. He lay down as a lion, and as a great lion. Who shall stir him up? Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you.

⁴³ And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog that you come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

⁶ And the king of Israel gathered the prophets, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth in Gilead to battle, or shall I hold back? And they said, Go up! For Jehovah shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of Jehovah. But I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

¹³ And the messenger that had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets are good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good.

² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them so that he should curse them. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.

¹⁷ Yea, he loved cursing, so let it come to him; he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing, as with his robe, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

²⁸ They will curse, but You will bless; they arise, and are ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice.

² As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse without cause shall not come.

¹² Stand now with your spells, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have wearied yourself since your youth. Perhaps you will be able to profit; perhaps you may bring terror. ¹³ You are exhausted by your many plans; now let the astrologers stand up and save you, the stargazers, making known what is coming on you into the new moons.

⁶ They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, Jehovah says. And Jehovah has not sent them; but they hoped to confirm their word.

⁹ But a certain man called Simon had long been conjuring in the city, and amazing the nation of Samaria, claiming himself to be some great one. ¹⁰ All gave heed to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, This one is the great power of God.

¹⁶ And as we went to prayer, it happened that a certain girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by divining.

²³ Surely, there is no spell against Jacob, nor any fortune-telling against Israel. According to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What God has worked!

¹ And Balaam saw that it pleased Jehovah to bless Israel, and he did not go, as at other times, to seek for secret arts, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

⁷ Then Saul said to his young man, But behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread in our vessels is gone, and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have? ⁸ And the young man answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have found the fourth of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God to tell us our way.

¹¹ Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough; and they are shepherds who cannot understand. They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, to his own end.

¹⁹ And will you profane Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls that should not die; and to save alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to My people who listen to lies.

¹¹ Her heads judge for a bribe, and her priests teach for pay, and her prophets divine for silver, yet they will lean on Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah among us? No evil can come on us!

¹⁸ For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.

⁹ But they who will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts which plunge men into destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹¹ whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.

⁶ And He said, Hear now My words. If there is a prophet among you, I Jehovah will make Myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream.

¹⁹ But please now stay here also this night so that I may know what more Jehovah will say to me. ²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them. But still, the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do.

¹² And he answered and said, Must I not be careful to speak that which Jehovah has put in my mouth?

² You have planted them; yea, they take root. They grow, yea, they make fruit. You are near in their mouth and far from their reins.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain.

⁹ And Jehovah God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? ¹⁰ And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself. ¹¹ And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?

⁹ And Jehovah said unto Cain, Where is your brother Abel? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?

⁸ And He said, Hagar, Sarai's slave, where did you come from? and where will you go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

³ But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are about to die, for the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man's wife.

²⁴ And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said to him, Take heed that you do not speak either good or bad to Jacob.

²⁵ And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one. God has shown Pharaoh what He is about to do.

² And Jehovah said to him, What is this in your hand? And he said, A staff.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them. But still, the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do.

¹⁴ And Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say? And from where did they come to you? And Hezekiah said, They have come from a far country, from Babylon. ¹⁵ And he said, What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures which I have not shown to them.

⁴⁵ Because you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it crushes the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold, the great God has made known to the king what shall occur after this. And the dream is certain, and its meaning is sure.

³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice fell from Heaven, saying, O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken. The kingdom has departed from you. ³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will.

²² Many will say to Me in that day, Lord! Lord! Did we not prophesy in Your name, and through Your name throw out demons, and through Your name do many wonderful works?

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders; so much so that, if it were possible, they would deceive even the elect.

⁵¹ And he did not speak this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;

² And I will make you a great nation. And I will bless you and make your name great. And you shall be a blessing.

¹⁶ and said, I have sworn by Myself, says Jehovah; because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only one; ¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens, and as the sand which is upon the seashore. And your Seed shall possess the gate of His enemies. ¹⁸ And in your Seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.

³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me. And whatever He reveals to me I will tell you. And he went to a high place.

¹³ And Balak said to him, Please come with me to another place from where you may see them. You shall see only their edge, and shall not see them all. And curse them from there for me. ¹⁴ And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on every altar. ¹⁵ And he said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering while I meet Him yonder.

¹⁹ God is not a man that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken, and shall He not make it good? ²⁰ Behold, I have received word to bless. And He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

⁵ But Jehovah your God would not listen to Balaam, but Jehovah your God turned the curse to a blessing to you, because Jehovah your God loved you.

²⁹ Blessed are you, O Israel! Who is like you, O people saved by Jehovah, the shield of your help, and who is the sword of your excellency! And your enemies shall be found liars to you, and you shall tread on their high places.

¹⁵ In a dream, a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men; while they slumber on the bed; ¹⁶ then He opens the ear of men and seals their teaching, ¹⁷ so that He may turn man from his act, that He might hide pride from man.

¹⁵ Blessed are the peoples who are so; blessed are the peoples to whom Jehovah is their God.

⁵ Blessed is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose help is in Jehovah his God,

¹⁹ But as he was sitting down on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that just man, for today because of Him I have suffered many things in a dream.

⁶ Even as David also says of the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness without works, ⁷ saying, "Blessed are those whose lawlessnesses are forgiven, and whose sins are covered;

²⁹ For the free gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ;

¹⁴ And the leaders of Moab rose up. And they went to Balak and said, Balaam refuses to come with us.

¹³ And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the leaders of Balak, Go into your land, for Jehovah refuses to let me go with you.

⁷ And when the angel who spoke to Cornelius departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from those who waited on him continually. ⁸ And explaining all things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁶ Therefore, I pray you, come now and curse this people for me. For they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall prevail so that we may strike them, and so that I may drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.

² And Balak did as Balaam had spoken. And Balak and Balaam offered on the altar a bull and a ram. ³ And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me. And whatever He reveals to me I will tell you. And he went to a high place.

²⁹ And Balaam said to Balak, Build seven altars here for me, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams here for me. ³⁰ And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on the altar.

¹¹ Therefore now flee to your place. I thought to lift you up to great honor, but lo, Jehovah has kept you back from honor.

⁹ You shall count seven weeks to yourselves. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time you began to put the sickle to the grain.

¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and his many sons, and all to which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

⁹ And Harbonah, one of the eunuchs, said before the king, Also look! the wooden gallows fifty cubits high which Haman made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him on it!

⁸ Again, the Devil took Him up into a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. ⁹ And he said to Him, All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.

⁷ So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

³⁸ And Balaam said to Balak, Lo, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak.

²⁶ But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell you, saying, All that Jehovah speaks, that I must do?

¹³ If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the mouth of Jehovah, to do good or bad of my own mind. What Jehovah said, that I will speak.

¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what Jehovah says to me, that I will speak.

¹³ And Micaiah said, As the Lord lives, even what my God says, that I will speak.

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another. Yet I will read the writing to the king, and make the meaning known to him.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, May your silver perish with you, because you have thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

¹⁶ They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient and reprobate to every good work.

³ And through covetousness they will use you for gain with well-turned words; for whom judgment from of old does not linger, and their destruction does not sleep.

³⁵ And the Angel of Jehovah said to Balaam, Go with the men. But only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak. So Balaam went with the leaders of Balak.

⁵ And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth and said, Return to Balak, and so you shall speak.

¹⁶ And Jehovah met Balaam and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again to Balak and say this.

⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. ⁶ But the thing was evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah. ⁷ And Jehovah said to Samuel, Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. ⁸ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even until this day, works with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods, so they do also to you. ⁹ And now listen to their voice. Only, you shall surely protest solemnly to them, and show them the kind of king who shall reign over them.

¹² And when you saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you, you said to me, No, but a king shall reign over us, even though Jehovah your God was your King. ¹³ And now, behold the king whom you have chosen, whom you have desired! And behold, Jehovah has set a king over you! ¹⁴ If you will fear Jehovah, and serve Him, and listen to His voice, and not rebel against the command of Jehovah, then both you and also the king who reigns over you shall continue following Jehovah your God. ¹⁵ But if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the command of Jehovah, then the hand of Jehovah shall be against you as it was against your fathers. ¹⁶ Also, now stand and see this great thing which Jehovah shall do before your eyes. ¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah, and He shall send thunder and rain, so that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, that which you have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking a king for you. ¹⁸ And Samuel called to Jehovah, And Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day. And all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to Jehovah your God, so that we will not die. For we have added evil to all our sins, to ask a king for us.

¹⁰ Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He breaks the plots of the people. ¹¹ The counsel of Jehovah stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

³⁰ They were not turned away from their lust, but while their food was still in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came on them and killed the fattest of them, and struck down the chosen of Israel.

¹² So I gave them up to the stubbornness of their own hearts; and they walked in their own conceits.

²⁹ Because of your raging against Me, and your arrogance has come up into My ears, therefore I will put My hook in your nose, and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way which you came.

² And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face. Should I at all be inquired of by them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, So says the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I Jehovah will answer him in it by the host of his idols; ⁵ so that I may capture the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are estranged from Me by their idols, all of them.

¹¹ I gave you a king in My anger, and took him away in My wrath.

⁹ whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness in those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, so that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie, ¹² so that all those who do not believe the truth, but delight in unrighteousness, might be condemned.

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them! Keep back your foot from their path, ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil and make haste to shed blood.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said, May God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who fed me all my life to this day, ¹⁶ the Angel who redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads. And let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and let them grow like the fishes into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

² And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire, out of the midst of a thorn bush. And he looked. And behold! The thorn bush burned with fire! And the thorn bush was not burned up. ³ And Moses said, I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the thorn bush is not burned up. ⁴ And Jehovah saw that he had turned aside to see. God called to him out of the midst of the thorn bush, and said, Moses! Moses! And he said, Here I am. ⁵ And He said, Do not come near here. Pull off your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground. ⁶ And He said, I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

²⁴ And it happened by the way, in the inn, that Jehovah met him and sought to kill him.

²⁰ Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you to the place which I have prepared.

³² And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, Why have you beaten your ass these three times? Behold! I went out to be an enemy to you, because your way is perverse before Me.

²⁰ And Jehu said, Call a solemn feast for Baal. And they called it.

⁴ He has bent His bow like an enemy; He stood with His right hand like an adversary, and killed all who were desirable to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion. He poured out His fury like fire.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Call his name God Will Sow. For still in a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel on the house of Jehu, and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease.

⁴ Yes, he wept and cried to Him, and he had power over the Angel and overcame. He found him in Bethel, and there He spoke with us, ⁵ even Jehovah, the God of Hosts. Jehovah is His memorial.

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed and said, I pray You, Jehovah, open his eyes so that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

¹⁶ And David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between the earth and the heavens, and his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. And David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

⁷ Yea, the stork in the heavens knows her seasons; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow watch the time of their coming; but my people do not know the judgment of Jehovah.

⁷ And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision. For the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great quaking fell on them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

⁹ And they who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid. But they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me.

²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things that are; ²⁹ so that no flesh should glory in His presence.

¹⁶ but had reproof of his lawbreaking, a dumb ass speaking in a man's voice, held back the madness of the prophet.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness; and the counsel of the wily is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night. ¹⁵ But He saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

¹² Stand now with your spells, and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have wearied yourself since your youth. Perhaps you will be able to profit; perhaps you may bring terror.

¹¹ Jehovah, Your hand is lifted up, they will not see; but they shall see and be ashamed for their envy toward Your people. Yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.

⁶ Therefore behold, I will hedge your way with thorns, and wall up her wall, that she shall not find her paths.

¹⁶ A wise one fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is sure.

³ A stone is heavy, and sand is heavy; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both. ⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before envy?

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

¹¹ And Jehovah said to him, Who has made man's mouth? Or who makes the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, Jehovah?

³⁷ For with God nothing shall be impossible.

²² And we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.

¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the perceiving ones."

¹⁰ A righteous one understands the soul of his animal; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

¹⁶ A fool's vexation is known in a day, but the astute one covers shame.

³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event to all. Yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies;

²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things that are;

¹⁹ And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the bottle with water, and gave drink to the boy.

⁸ And Moses made haste and bowed toward the earth, and worshiped.

⁴ he has said; he who heard the words of God, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling down but having his eyes open;

¹⁶ he has said, he who heard the words of God and knew the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down but having his eyes open;

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed and said, I pray You, Jehovah, open his eyes so that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. ¹⁸ And they came down to it, and Elisha prayed to Jehovah and said, I pray You, strike this people with blindness. And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. ¹⁹ And Elisha said to them, This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me and I will bring you to the man whom you seek. But he led them to Samaria. ²⁰ And it happened when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, Jehovah, open the eyes of these men so that they may see. And Jehovah opened their eyes, and they saw. And behold, they were in the middle of Samaria.

²⁰ Put them in fear, O Jehovah, let the nations know they are but men. Selah.

¹⁶ But their eyes were held so that they could not know Him.

³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him. And He became invisible to them.

⁶ Then as soon as He had said to them, I AM, they went backward and fell to the ground.

¹⁸ in order to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the authority of Satan to God, so that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

²² And God's anger was kindled because he went. And the Angel of Jehovah stood in the way as an enemy against him. And he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants with him.

²⁸ And Jehovah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you, that you have beaten me these three times?

⁴ You shall not muzzle an ox when he treads out the grain.

⁶ Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O Jehovah, You keep man and beast.

⁹ Jehovah is good to all; and His tender mercies are over all His works.

⁹ He gives the beasts their food, and to the young ravens which cry.

² He who walks in his uprightness fears Jehovah, but he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.

⁶ Better is the poor who walks in his uprightness than he who is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

¹⁸ Whoever walks uprightly shall be saved; but he who is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

¹¹ And should I not spare Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than a hundred and twenty thousand men who do not know between their right and their left hand, besides much cattle?

¹⁰ and said, O son of the Devil, full of all deceit and all craftiness, enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery and never ceasing from sin, alluring unstable souls, having a heart exercised with covetousness. They are cursed children ¹⁵ who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,

³⁷ even those men that brought up the evil report upon the land died by the plague before Jehovah.

³³ They and all that they had went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them. And they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And there came out a fire from Jehovah and burned up the two hundred and fifty men who offered incense.

²⁴ And he left, and a lion met him by the way and killed him. And his dead body was thrown in the highway, and the ass stood by it, and the lion also stood by the body. ²⁵ And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown in the way, and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived. ²⁶ And when the prophet who brought him back from the way heard, he said, It is the man of God who did not obey the Word of Jehovah. And Jehovah has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the Word of Jehovah which He spoke to him. ²⁷ And he spoke to his sons, saying, Saddle the ass for me. And they saddled it. ²⁸ And he went and found his body thrown in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body nor torn the ass.

²⁷ And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time. Jehovah is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

¹⁶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste. And he said, I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you. ¹⁷ And now please, forgive my sin only this once, and pray to Jehovah your God, that He may take away from me this death only.

¹ And the people were evil, as those complaining in the ears of Jehovah. And Jehovah heard, and His anger was kindled. And the fire of Jehovah burned among them and devoured in the outermost parts of the camp.

⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up to the place which Jehovah has promised, for we have sinned.

²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel, I have sinned. For I have disobeyed the command of Jehovah, and your word, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

³⁰ Then he said, I have sinned. Please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and turn again with me. And I shall worship Jehovah your God.

¹⁷ And he said to David, You are more righteous than I, for you have rewarded me with good, but I have rewarded you evil.

²¹ And Saul said, I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will never do you harm any more, because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have acted foolishly, and have greatly erred.

¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah also has put away your sin; you shall not die.

⁷ And it was evil in the eyes of God as to this thing. And He struck Israel.

³¹ For has any said to God, I have taken away; I will not pervert? ³² Besides what I see, You teach me; if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more.

³⁴ When He killed them, then they looked for Him; and they turned back and sought after God.

¹⁸ lest Jehovah see, and it displease Him, and He turn away His wrath from him.

⁴ saying, I have sinned, betraying innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? You see to that. ⁵ And he threw the pieces of silver down in the temple and departed. And he went and hanged himself.

²⁰ And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If the men come to call you, rise up, go with them. But still, the word which I shall say to you, that you shall do. ²¹ And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass, and went with the rulers of Moab.

²⁶ Have you not heard from afar? I made it from days of old, even I have formed it. Now I have caused it to come, and you are to cause fortified cities to crash into heaps, ruins. ²⁷ And their inhabitants were short of hand; dismayed and ashamed. They were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, even grain blasted before it has risen. ²⁸ But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your rage against Me. ²⁹ Because of your raging against Me, and your arrogance has come up into My ears, therefore I will put My hook in your nose, and My bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way which you came.

¹⁷ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley.

² And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo, three men stood by him. And when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed toward the ground.

²⁹ And Joseph made his chariot ready, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself to him. And he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed down to him, and kissed him. And they asked each other of their welfare. And they came into the tent.

¹³ From there they pulled up stakes and pitched on the other side of Arnon, in the wilderness that comes out of the borders of the Amorites; for Arnon is in the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites. ¹⁴ Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of Jehovah, Waheb in Suphah, and in the torrents of Arnon,

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle.

¹⁸ And they went along through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but they did not come within the border of Moab; for Arnon was the border of Moab.

¹⁰ And it happened as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came. And Saul went out to meet him and to kneel to him.

² For it shall be as a fleeing bird cast out of the nest, the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon.

²⁰ Moab is put to shame, for it is broken down. Howl and cry! Tell it in Arnon that Moab is stripped.

¹⁵ And the brothers from there hearing of us, they came to meet us as far as the market-place of Appius, and Three Taverns. Seeing them, thanking God, Paul took courage.

¹⁶ And they came to Balaam and said to him, So says Balak the son of Zippor, Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me. ¹⁷ For I will raise you up to very great honor, and I will do whatever you say to me. Please come then and curse this people for me.

⁶ For lifting up comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

⁶ And the Devil said to Him, All this power I will give you, and the glory of them; for it has been delivered to me. And I give it to whomever I will.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, you who receive honor from one another and do not seek the honor that comes from God only?

¹⁸ And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more.

¹⁰ Jehovah brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He breaks the plots of the people.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the wrath that is left, You shall bind up.

²¹ There are many purposes in a man's heart, but the counsel of Jehovah shall stand.

²⁵ who brings to nothing the signs of the liars, and makes diviners mad; who turns the wise backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;

¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from the past things which were not done, saying, My purpose shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure;

⁵⁴ And Jacob offered sacrifice on the mountain, and called his brothers to eat bread. And they ate bread and stayed all night in the mountain.

² And Balak did as Balaam had spoken. And Balak and Balaam offered on the altar a bull and a ram.

¹⁴ And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on every altar.

³⁰ And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on the altar.

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil and make haste to shed blood.

²⁸ For there has gone out a fire from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon.

¹³ And Balak said to him, Please come with me to another place from where you may see them. You shall see only their edge, and shall not see them all. And curse them from there for me.

² And they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods. And the people ate and bowed down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.

² You shall completely destroy all the places in which the nations which you shall possess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.

¹⁵ And he ordained priests for himself for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

³⁵ And, I will cause him who offers in the high places to cease in Moab, says Jehovah, and him who burns incense to his gods.
