¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, separated to the gospel of God ² (which He had promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures), ³ about His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was marked out the Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead; ⁵ by whom we have received grace and apostleship, to obedience to the faith among all nations, for His name; ⁶ among whom you also are the called-out ones of Jesus Christ: ⁷ to all those who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. ⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. ⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you ¹⁰ always in my prayers, making request if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come to you. ¹¹ For I long to see you, so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to you for the establishing of you. ¹² And this is to be comforted together with you by our mutual faith, both yours and mine. ¹³ But I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that oftentimes I purposed to come to you, and was kept back until the present; that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other nations. ¹⁴ I am debtor both to the Greeks and to the foreigners, both to the wise and to the unwise. ¹⁵ So, as much as is in me lies, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are at Rome also. ¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. ¹⁷ For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The just shall live by faith." ¹⁸ For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, ¹⁹ because the thing which may be known of God is clearly revealed within them, for God revealed it to them. ²⁰ For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being realized by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse. ²¹ Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing to be wise, they became fools ²³ and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. ²⁵ For they changed the truth of God into a lie, and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. ²⁶ For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature. ²⁷ And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error. ²⁸ And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right, ²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers, ³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ³¹ undiscerning, perfidious, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; ³² who, knowing the righteous order of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but have pleasure in those practicing them.

¹³ If a man also lies with mankind, as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be on them.

²⁴ But I have said to you, You shall inherit their land, and I, I am giving it to you to possess it, a land that flows with milk and honey. I am Jehovah your God, who has separated you from the nations. ²⁵ And you shall make a difference between clean animals and unclean, and between unclean fowls and clean. And you shall not defile your souls by beast, or by fowl, or by any kind of living thing that creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean. ²⁶ And you shall be holy to Me. For I, Jehovah, am holy, and have severed you from the nations, so that you should be Mine.

³⁵ And it happened when the ark pulled up, Moses said, Rise up, Jehovah, and let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You.

⁹ is it only a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? ¹⁰ And He has brought you near, and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you. And do you seek the priesthood also?

¹⁵ Therefore take good heed to yourselves, for you saw no kind of likeness on the day Jehovah spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire, ¹⁶ lest you act corruptly and make yourselves a graven image, the likeness of any figure, the likeness of male or female, ¹⁷ the likeness of any beast on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air, ¹⁸ the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish in the waters beneath the earth; ¹⁹ and lest you lift up your eyes to the heavens, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, lest you should be driven to worship them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has allotted to all nations under all the heavens.

⁸ You shall not make a graven image for you, any likeness of anything that is in the heavens above, or in the earth beneath, or in the waters beneath the earth.

¹⁰ And He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slow to repay him who hates Him. He will repay him to his face.

¹⁸ If a man has a son who is stubborn and rebels, who will not obey his father's voice or his mother's voice, even when they have chastened him he will not listen to them, ¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall lay hold on him and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place. ²⁰ And they shall say to the elders of his city, this son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard. ²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones so that he dies. So shall you put evil away from you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

¹⁷ There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. ¹⁸ You shall not bring the hire of a harlot, or the price of a dog, into the house of Jehovah your God for any vow. For even both these are hateful to Jehovah your God.

²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. And you shall always be pressed down and spoiled forever, and no man shall save you.

And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold. ¹⁵ And Hezekiah gave him all the silver which was found in the house of Jehovah and in the treasures of the king's house. ¹⁶ At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid. And he gave them to the king of Assyria. ¹⁷ And the king of Assyria sent Tartan, and the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the cupbearers from Lachish, to King Hezekiah with a great army against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the Fuller's Field. ¹⁸ And they called to the king. And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, went out to them. ¹⁹ And the chief of the cupbearers said to them, Speak now to Hezekiah, So says the great king, the king of Assyria, What hope is this in which you trust? ²⁰ Do you say that a mere word of the lips is wisdom and strength for the war? Now on whom do you trust that you rebel against me? ²¹ Now, behold, you trust on the staff of this bruised reed, on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him. ²² But if you say to me, We trust in Jehovah our God, is He not the one whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem? ²³ And now, please give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver two thousand horses to you if you are able to set riders on them. ²⁴ And how will you turn away the face of one commander of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? ²⁵ Have I now come up against this place to destroy it without Jehovah? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it. ²⁶ Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah said to the chief of the cupbearers, Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand. And do not talk with us in Jewish, in the ears of the people who are on the wall. ²⁷ And the chief of the cupbearers said to them, Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you? ²⁸ And the chief of the cupbearers stood and cried with a loud voice in Jewish, and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria: ²⁹ so says the king, Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. For he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand. ³⁰ And do not let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hands of the king of Assyria. ³¹ Do not listen to Hezekiah. For so says the king of Assyria, Make with me a blessing, and come out to me, and you each shall eat of his vine, and each of his fig tree, and you each shall drink of the waters of his own cistern, ³² until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive oil and of honey, and live, and not die. And do not listen to Hezekiah when he deceives you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us. ³³ Has any of the gods of the nations at all delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ³⁴ Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? ³⁵ Who among all the gods of the lands have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand? ³⁶ But the people kept silent and did not answer him a word. For the king's command was, saying, Do not answer him. ³⁷ And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn. And they told him the words of the chief of the cupbearers.

¹³ The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated so that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before Jehovah, to minister to Him, and to bless in His name forever.

² And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him. And he said to King Jehoshaphat, Should you help the ungodly and love those who hate Jehovah? And by this bring wrath on you from before Jehovah.

²⁰ And they rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and you people of Jerusalem. Believe in Jehovah your God, and so you shall be established. Believe His prophets, and so you shall be blessed.

¹⁹ You have said, Lo, I have stricken the Edomites, and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle to your hurt, so that you should fall, you and Judah with you?

³ When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established;

⁷ All those hating me whisper against me; they plot evil against me.

⁶ Those who trust in their wealth, and their many riches, boast themselves.

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, then you were pleased to be with him, and you have taken part with adulterers.

²³ Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and he who sets a way, I will show him the salvation of God.

⁵ O simple ones, understand wisdom; and, fools, be of an understanding heart.

³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all who hate me love death.

²⁸ A perverse man causes fighting, and a whisperer separates chief friends.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, since he has no heart for it?

¹⁴ A man boasting himself in a false gift is like clouds and wind, but no rain.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me!

⁶ For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be on His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Then, he is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is weak. ¹³ He fashions wood, and stretches a line; he marks it out with a pencil; he shapes it with carving tools, and he marks it out with the compass, and makes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man, to sit in the house.

Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; yes, he makes a god and worships; he makes it a graven image and falls down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire; with part of it he eats flesh; he roasts roast and is satisfied; yea, he warms himself, and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire. ¹⁷ And the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image; he falls down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me! for you are my god. ¹⁸ They have not known nor understood; for He has shut their eyes so that they cannot see; and their hearts so that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ And none thinks within his heart, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread on the coals of it; I have roasted flesh and eaten; and shall I make the rest of it an abomination? ³ For the customs of the people are vain; for one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the workman. ⁴ They adorn it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble. ⁵ They are like a rounded post, and they cannot speak. They must surely be lifted, because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil nor good, for it is not in them. ⁶ There is none like You, O Jehovah; You are great, and Your name is great in might. ⁷ Who would not fear You, O King of nations? For fear belongs to You, because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like You. ⁸ But they are all at once foolish and animal-like; the tree is an example of vanities.

¹ The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God:

³⁸ Therefore whoever shall be ashamed of Me and of My Words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man shall also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
