¹ Then Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the sons of the east. ² And he looked, and behold, a well in the field. And behold, three flocks of sheep were lying there by it, because they watered the flocks out of that well. And the stone upon the well's mouth was great. ³ And all the flocks were gathered there. And they rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the sheep and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in its place.
⁴ And Jacob said to them, My brothers, where are you* from? And they said, We are of Haran. ⁵ And he said to them, Do you* know Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him. ⁶ And he said to them, Is it well with him? And they said, It is well. And behold, Rachel his daughter comes with the sheep.
⁷ And he said, Behold, it is yet high day, it is not time that the cattle should be gathered together. Water the sheep and go and feed them. ⁸ And they said, We cannot until all the flocks be gathered together and they roll the stone from the well's mouth. Then we water the sheep. ⁹ While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, becauses he kept them.
¹⁰ And it happened, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near and rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. ¹¹ And Jacob kissed Rachel and lifted up his voice and wept. ¹² And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother and that he was Rebekah's son. And she ran and told her father.
¹³ And it happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. ¹⁴ And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.
¹⁵ And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be? ¹⁶ And Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah and the name of the younger was Rachel. ¹⁷ And Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance. ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter. ¹⁹ And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Abide with me.
²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel. And they seemed to him but a few days in the love he had for her. ²¹ And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her. ²² And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast. ²³ And it happened in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to him. And he went in to her. ²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
²⁵ And it happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me? ²⁶ And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn. ²⁷ Fulfill the week of this one and we will also give you the other for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years.
²⁸ And Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. And he gave him Rachel his daughter as a wife. ²⁹ And Laban gave to Rachel, his daughter, Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid. ³⁰ And he also went in to Rachel and also he loved Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet seven other years.

³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. ³² And Leah conceived and bore a son and she called his name Reuben. For she said, Because Jehovah has looked upon my affliction, because now my husband will love me.
³³ And she conceived again and bore a son and said, Because Jehovah has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also. And she called his name Simeon.
³⁴ And she conceived again and bore a son and said, Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons. Therefore his name was called Levi.
³⁵ And she conceived again and bore a son. And she said, This time I will praise Jehovah. Therefore she called his name Judah. And she left off bearing.

²⁰ And it happened after these things, that it was told to Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she has also borne sons to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his first born and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel. ²³ And Bethuel fathered Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

¹⁰ And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his master and departed, having all good things of his master's in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

²⁰ And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to be his wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.

⁵ And Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.
⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram, to take for him a wife from there and that as he blessed him he gave him an order, saying, You will not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan, ⁷ and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother and had gone to Paddan-aram.

⁷ And he took up his oracle and said, From Aram Balak has brought me, the King of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me and come, defy Israel.

³ And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up and the Amalekites and the sons of the east, they came up against them.

³³ Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the sons of the east assembled themselves together. And they passed over and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.

¹² And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude and their camels were without number, as the sand which is upon the sea-shore for multitude.

¹⁰ Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand men, all who were left of all the army of the sons of the east, for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men who drew a sword.

³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.

³² I will run the way of your commandments because you will enlarge my heart.

⁶⁰ I made haste and delayed not, to observe your commandments.

⁷ Go your way, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a merry heart, because God has already accepted your works.

¹² And Jacob fled into the field of Aram and Israel served for a wife and for a wife he kept sheep.

¹¹ And he made the camels to kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.

¹³ Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water. And the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.

¹⁵ Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian and he sat down by a well. ¹⁶ Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. And they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

² He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.

⁶ Do not look upon me, because I am swarthy, because the sun has scorched me. My mother's sons were incensed against me. They made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept.
⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed your flock, where you make it to rest at noon. For why should I be as she who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions?

¹⁰ They will not hunger nor thirst, neither will the heat nor sun kill* them. For he who has mercy on them will lead them. He will guide them even by springs of water.

⁶ and Jacob’s well was there. Therefore, Jesus, being fatigued from his journey, was sitting thus upon the well. It was approximately the sixth hour.

¹⁴ but whoever is drinking from the water that I will be giving him may never be thirsty, but the water that I will be giving him will become in him a well of water leaping up to everlasting life.

¹⁷ because the Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, is shepherding them and is guiding them to the springs of waters of life and God will be wiping-away every tear from their eyes.

³¹ And Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan. And they came to Haran and dwelt there.

⁴³ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice and arise, flee to Laban my brother to Haran.

¹⁰ And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba and went toward Haran.

² Now he said, Brethren and fathers, listen : the God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

⁴ Then when he came out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran and after his father died, God exiled him from there into this land in which you are now dwelling.

²⁴ And she said to him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.

²⁹ And Rebekah had a brother and his name was Laban. And Laban ran out to the man, to the fountain.

⁵³ The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

¹⁴ And he said to him, Go now, see whether it is well with your brothers and well with the flock and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron and he came to Shechem.

²⁷ And he asked them of their welfare and said, Is your* father well, the old man of whom you* spoke? Is he yet alive?

⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed-down and kissed him. And they asked each other of their welfare and they came into the tent.

²² And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage and ran to the army and came and saluted his brothers.

⁵ And David sent ten young men and David said to the young men, You* get up to Carmel and go to Nabal and greet him in my name.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with you, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

⁹ Now we should not be depressed in well doing; for we will be reaping in our own time, if we do not faint. ¹⁰ Therefore consequently, as we have opportunity, we should work what is the good thing toward all men but especially in the household of the faith.

¹⁶ buying up the time, because the days are evil.

³ And all the flocks were gathered there. And they rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the sheep and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in its place.

¹⁴ and said to them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to a man who is uncircumcised, because that is a reproach to us.

³² And they set on for him by himself and for them by themselves and for the Egyptians, who ate with him, by themselves, because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews, becausethat is an abomination to the Egyptians.

³ And they were saying to themselves, Who will be rolling away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?

² Now they found the stone has been rolled away from the tomb.

¹⁵ And it happened, before he was done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

²¹ And Moses was content to dwell with the man and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed your flock, where you make it to rest at noon. For why should I be as she who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions?
⁸ If you do not know, O you fairest among women, go your way forth by the footsteps of the flock and feed your kids beside the shepherds' tents.

¹⁷ And the shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and helped them and watered their flock.

²⁶ And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now and kiss me, my son.

¹³ And it happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

⁴ And Esau ran to meet him and embraced him and fell on his neck and kissed him and they wept.

³⁰ And Joseph made haste, becausehis heart yearned over his brother and he sought where to weep. And he entered into his chamber and wept there.

² And he wept aloud and the Egyptians heard and the house of Pharaoh heard.

¹⁴ And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's wept upon his neck. ¹⁵ And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And after that his brothers talked with him.

²⁷ And Jehovah said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went and met him on the mountain of God and kissed him.

¹⁶ Greet one another with a holy kiss. The congregations of Christ greet you.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, I beseech you, let there be no strife between me and you and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, in that we are men– brothers.

¹⁴ And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them and pursued as far as Dan. ¹⁵ And he divided himself against them by night, he and his servants and killed* them and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus. ¹⁶ And he brought back all the goods and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods and also the women and the people.

²⁸ And the girl ran and told her mother's house according to these words.

¹⁵ And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And after that his brothers talked with him.

³⁹ And all the people went over the Jordan and the king went over. And the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him and he returned to his own place.

⁴⁵ You gave me no kiss, but, from the time I came in she has continually kissed my feet.

³⁷ But there became considerable weeping from all, and having fallen upon Paul’s neck, they were kissing him,

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, buying up the time.

²³ And the man said, This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. She will be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

¹² And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother and that he was Rebekah's son. And she ran and told her father.

¹⁵ And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?

² Speak, I beseech you*, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Which is better for you*, that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy men, rule over you*, or that one rule over you*? Remember also that I am your* bone and your* flesh.

¹ Then all the tribes of Israel came to David to Hebron and spoke, saying, Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

¹² You* are my brothers, you* are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you* the last to bring back the king?
¹³ And say you* to Amasa, Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me and more also, if you not be captain of the army before me continually in the place of Joab.

⁵ Trust you* not in a neighbor. Put you* not confidence in a friend. Keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.

³⁰ because we are members of his body, out of his flesh and out of his bones.

²⁸ And he said, Appoint for me your wages and I will give it.

⁷ And your* father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

² And he put the handmaids and their children foremost and Leah and her children after and Rachel and Joseph hindmost.

²³ The sons of Leah were : Reuben, Jacob's firstborn and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun.

¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three.

³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife and there I buried Leah,

¹¹ And all the people who were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman that has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel and do you worthily in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem.

¹¹ And it happened, when he came near to enter into Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, Behold, I beseech you, I know that you are a fair woman to look upon.

¹⁶ And the maiden was very fair to look upon, a virgin, no man had known her. And she went down to the fountain and filled her pitcher and came up.

⁶ And he said to them, Is it well with him? And they said, It is well. And behold, Rachel his daughter comes with the sheep.
⁷ And he said, Behold, it is yet high day, it is not time that the cattle should be gathered together. ¹⁸ And Jacob loved Rachel and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.

¹ And when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no sons, Rachel envied her sister and she said to Jacob, Give me sons, or else I die.
² And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel and he said, Am I in God's place, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?

²² And God remembered Rachel. And God listened to her and opened her womb.

¹⁹ And Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (what is Bethlehem). ²⁰ And Jacob set up a pillar upon her grave, the same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.

²⁴ The sons of Rachel were : Joseph and Benjamin.

⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand and he knew nothing that was with him, save the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and fine-looking.

¹⁹ The sons of Rachel Jacob's wife were : Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potipherah priest of On, bore to him. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin were : Bela and Becher and Ashbel, Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob: all the souls were fourteen.

⁷ And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan on the way, when there was still some distance to come to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (what is Bethlehem).

² When you have departed from me today, then you will find two men by Rachel's sepulcher in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah. And they will say to you, The donkeys which you went to seek are found, and behold, your father has left off caring for the donkeys and is anxious for you*, saying, What shall I do for my son?

³⁰ Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Jehovah, she will be praised.

¹⁵ Jehovah says thus: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel weeping for her children, she refused to be comforted for her children, because they are not.

¹⁸ ‘A voice was heard in Ramah, mourning, and weeping, and much anguish, Rachel weeping for her children. And she did not wish to be comforted, because they are not there.’

²⁰ And Jacob served seven years for Rachel. And they seemed to him but a few days in the love he had for her.

³⁰ And he also went in to Rachel and also he loved Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet seven other years.

⁴¹ These twenty years I have been in your house. I served you fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock. And you have changed my wages ten times.

¹² Ask me never so much wedding-money and gift and I will give as you* will say to me, but give me the maiden as a wife.

¹⁶ And if a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed and lies with her, he will surely pay wedding-money for her to be his wife. ¹⁷ If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he will pay money according to the wedding-money of virgins.

¹⁴ And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, saying, Deliver to me my wife Michal whom I betrothed to me for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

² So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver and a homer of barley and a half-homer of barley.

² They speak falsehood everyone with his neighbor. They speak with a flattering lip and with a double heart.

⁵ Then I said, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

¹¹ Then I said, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant and houses without man and the land become utterly waste,

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent and took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

²⁶ Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you and let me go, because you know my service with which I have served you.

⁶ Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm. Because love is strong as death, jealousy is cruel as Sheol. The flashes of it are flashes of fire, a most vehement flame.
⁷ Many waters cannot quench love, nor can floods drown it. If a man would give all the substance of his house for love, he would be utterly scorned.

⁷ It is forbearing all things, is believing all things, is hoping for all things, is enduring all things.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ is holding us together with him, having judged this thing: if one died on behalf of all, consequently, all died;

² and walk in love, just-as the Christ also loved us and gave himself up on our behalf as an offering and a sacrifice to God for an aroma of a sweet-fragrance.

¹ And the man knew Eve his wife and she conceived and bore Cain and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah.

¹⁶ And he turned to her by the way and said, I beseech you, come let me come in to you, because he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law.
And she said, What will you give me, that you may come in to me?

¹ But it happened after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid. And he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber, but her father would not allow him to go in.

¹⁸ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was thus: for when his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant from the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ And his father went down to the woman and Samson made a feast there, for so the young men used to do. ¹¹ And it happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
¹² And Samson said to them, Let me now put forth a riddle to you*. If you* can declare it to me within the seven days of the feast and find it out, then I will give you* thirty linen garments and thirty changes of garments, ¹³ but if you* cannot declare it to me, then you* will give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of garments.
And they said to him, Put forth your riddle, that we may hear it. ¹⁴ And he said to them, Out of the eater came out food and out of the strong came out sweetness. And they could not in three days declare the riddle.
¹⁵ And it happened on the seventh day, that they said to Samson's wife, Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you* called us to impoverish us? Is it not so?
¹⁶ And Samson's wife wept before him and said, You do but hate me and not love me. You have put forth a riddle to the sons of my people and have not told it to me. And he said to her, Behold, I have not told it to my father nor my mother and shall I tell you?
¹⁷ And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted. And it happened on the seventh day, that he told her because she pressed him greatly. And she told the riddle to the sons of her people.
¹⁸ And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said to them, If you* had not plowed with my heifer, you* would not have found out my riddle.

¹⁰ Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, I have purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. You* are witnesses this day.
¹¹ And all the people who were in the gate and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman that has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel and do you worthily in Ephrathah and be famous in Bethlehem. ¹² And let your house be like the house of Perez whom Tamar bore to Judah, of the seed which Jehovah will give you by this young woman.
¹³ So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. And he went in to her and Jehovah gave her conception and she bore a son.

² The kingdom of the heavens is similar to a certain king, who made a marriage-feast for his son, ³ and sent forth his bondservants to call to those who have been invited to the marriage-feast, and they were not willing to come. ⁴ Again he sent forth other bondservants, saying, Say to those who have been invited, Behold, I prepared my meal; my oxen and my fattened calves have been sacrificed, and all things are prepared. Come-here to the marriage-feast. ⁵ But they neglecting it, went away, one to his own field, another to his merchandise; ⁶ and the rest took-hold of his bondservants, and abused them and killed them. ⁷ And that king, having heard it, was angry, and he having sent his armies, destroyed those murderers and incinerated their city.
⁸ Then he says to his bondservants, The wedding is prepared, but those who have been invited were not worthy. ⁹ Therefore, travel on the thoroughfares of the roads, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage-feast. ¹⁰ And those bondservants, having gone out into the roads, gathered together all things, as many people as they found, both evil and good and the wedding was filled with people reclining at the table.

¹ Then the kingdom of the heavens will be similar to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went forth to the encounter of the bridegroom. ² Now five out of them were prudent and five were foolish. ³ Those who were foolish, having taken their lamps, took no oil with them; ⁴ but the prudent took oil in their containers with their lamps. ⁵ Now the bridegroom while he was delaying, they all slumbered and were sleeping. ⁶ But in the middle of the night, there has become an outcry, Behold, the bridegroom is coming! Go forth to the encounter of him. ⁷ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ Now the foolish said to the prudent, Give us some oil from your oil, because our lamps are quenched. ⁹ But the prudent answered, saying, No, lest it might not be enough for us and you too, but rather, travel to those who sell and buy for yourselves. ¹⁰ But while going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared entered with him to the marriage-feast, and the door was locked.

¹ And in the third day, there happened to be a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; ² and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. ³ And coming-short of wine, the mother of Jesus says to him, They have no wine.
⁴ Jesus says to her, What is this thing with me and with you, woman? My hour is not coming yet.
⁵ His mother says to the servants, If he says anything to you, do it. ⁶ Now six stone water pots were placed there according to the Jews’cleansing, making room for two or three nine-gallon measures apiece.
⁷ Jesus says to them, Fill the water pots with water. And they filled them to the top. ⁸ And he says to them, Dip-out some now and carry it to the chief waiter.
And they carried it. ⁹ Now as the chief waiter tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it is from (but the servants knew, having dipped-out the water), the chief waiter summons the bridegroom, ¹⁰ and says to him, Every man first places the good wine on the table, and whenever they are drunken, then the inferior. But you have kept the good wine until now.

⁹ And he says to me, Write, the fortunate ones have been invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he says to me, These are true words of God.

⁶⁵ And she said to the servant, What man is this who walks in the field to meet us? And the servant said, It is my master. And she took her veil and covered herself.

¹⁴ And she put the garments of her widowhood off from her and covered herself with her veil and wrapped herself and sat in the gateway of two-springs Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah, becauses he saw that Shelah was grown up and she was not given to him as a wife.
¹⁵ When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a prostitute, because she had covered her face.

¹ Now Sarai, Abram's wife, bore him no children. And she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.

⁵⁹ And they sent Rebekah their sister away and her nurse and Abraham's servant and his men.

⁹ When Leah saw that she had left off bearing, she took Zilpah her handmaid and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a son. ¹¹ And Leah said, Good-fortune! And she called his name Gad.
¹² And Zilpah Leah's handmaid bore Jacob a second son.

¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter; and these she bore to Jacob, even sixteen souls.

¹⁸ And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she is your wife?

³⁵ And he said, Your brother came with guile and has taken away your blessing.
³⁶ And he said, Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

⁷ And Adoni-bezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered scraps under my table. As I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem and he died there.

³¹ Behold, a righteous man will be recompensed in the earth, also the wicked man and the sinner!

² For in what judgment you judge, you will be judged and in what measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

¹³ the work of each one will become apparent. For the day will indicate it, because it is revealed in fire, and the fire will test the work of each one, of what sort it is.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

² And God finished his work by the seventh day which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. ³ And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which God had created and made.

¹⁰ And he stayed yet another seven days and again he sent out the dove out of the ark. ¹¹ And the dove came in, in the evening to him. And behold, in her mouth an olive leaf plucked off, so Noah knew that the waters were abated from the earth.
¹² And he stayed yet seven other days and sent forth the dove. And she did not return again to him any more.

¹⁸ And you will not take a wife in addition to her sister, to be a rival to her, to uncover her nakedness, besides the other in her life-time.

¹⁰ And his father went down to the woman and Samson made a feast there, for so the young men used to do.

¹² And Samson said to them, Let me now put forth a riddle to you*. If you* can declare it to me within the seven days of the feast and find it out, then I will give you* thirty linen garments and thirty changes of garments,

Therefore take heed to your* spirit and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils; of which some aspiring to, have been misled from the faith and they themselves are staked-through by many sorrows.

²⁴ And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.

³ And she said, Behold, my maid Bilhah, go in to her, that she may bear upon my knees and I also may obtain sons by her. ⁴ And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid as a wife and Jacob went in to her. ⁵ And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son. ⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me and has also heard my voice and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan.
⁷ And Bilhah Rachel's handmaid conceived again and bore Jacob a second son. ⁸ And Rachel said, With mighty wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister and I have indeed prevailed. And she called his name Naphtali.

²² And it happened, while Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine and Israel heard of it.
Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

²⁵ And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid were : Dan and Naphtali.

² These are the genealogies of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brothers. And he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives and Joseph brought the evil report of them to their father.

³¹ And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

²⁵ And it happened, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to Laban, Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country. ²⁶ Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you and let me go, because you know my service with which I have served you.

¹⁹ But it happened at the time when Merab, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.
²⁰ And Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David and they told Saul and the thing pleased him. ²¹ And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David, You will this day be my son-in-law a second time.

Now therefore be the king's son-in-law. ²³ And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Does it seem to you* a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?
²⁴ And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner David spoke. ²⁵ And Saul said, Thus you* will say to David, The king does not desire any wedding-money, but a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.
²⁶ And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. And the days were not expired. ²⁷ And David arose and went, he and his men and killed of the Philistines two hundred men. And David brought their foreskins and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter as a wife.

²⁴ No one is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and will love the other; or he will hold to one and will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and ^{F} money.

³⁷ He who loves his father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves his son or daughter above me is not worthy of me.

²⁶ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and also, still his own life, he is not able to be my disciple.

²⁵ He who loves his life will be losing it, and he who hates his life in this world will be keeping it to everlasting life.

¹⁸ For Jehovah had closed up fast all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

²¹ And Isaac entreated Jehovah for his wife, because she was barren. And Jehovah was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, because I know their sorrows.

² And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah and his wife was barren and did not bear.
³ And the messenger of Jehovah appeared to the woman and said to her, Behold now, you are barren and do not bear, but you will conceive and bear a son.

⁵ but to Hannah he gave a double portion, for he loved Hannah, but Jehovah had shut up her womb.

²⁰ And it happened, when the time came about, that Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of Jehovah.

²⁷ I prayed for this child and Jehovah has given me my petition which I asked of him.

²¹ And Jehovah visited Hannah and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before Jehovah.

³ Behold, sons are a heritage of Jehovah and the fruit of the womb is a reward.

³ but Esau I hated and made his mountains a desolation and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.

⁷ And there was no child to them, insomuch as Elisabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in their days.

¹¹ And the messenger of Jehovah said to her, Behold, you are with child and will bear a son and you will call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah has heard your affliction.

⁴² Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.

²¹ And Reuben heard it and delivered him out of their hand and said, Let us not take his life. ²² And Reuben said to them, Shed no blood. Cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him, that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.

²⁹ And Reuben returned to the pit, and behold, Joseph was not in the pit. And he tore his clothes,

²² And Reuben answered them, saying, Did I not speak to you*, saying, Sin not against the child and you* would not hear? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.

²⁷ And as one of them opened his sack to give his donkey fodder in the lodging place, he saw his money, and behold, it was in the mouth of his sack.

⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben were : Hanoch and Pallu and Hezron and Carmi.

³ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, the preeminence of dignity and the pre-eminence of power. ⁴ Boiling over as water, you will not have the pre-eminence, because you went up to your father's bed, then you defiled it; he went up to my couch.

³¹ And the people believed. And when they heard that Jehovah had visited the sons of Israel and that he had seen their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

⁷ And we cried to Jehovah, the God of our fathers and Jehovah heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression.

¹¹ And she vowed a vow and said, O Jehovah of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid and remember me and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a male-child, then I will give him to Jehovah all the days of his life and there will no razor come upon his head.

¹² It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done to me and that Jehovah will reward me good for his cursing of me this day.

¹ And the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn, but, inasmuch as he defiled his father's couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel and so the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright.

¹⁸ Consider my affliction and my travail and forgive all my sins.

⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their distress when he heard their cry.

²⁵ Thus the Lord has done to me in the days in which he looked upon me, to take away my reproach among men.

²⁵ And it happened on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took each man his sword and came upon the city unawares and killed all the males.

³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, You* have troubled me, to make me stink to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. And I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill* me and I will be destroyed, I and my house.

²⁴ And he turned himself around from them and wept. And he returned to them and spoke to them and took Simeon from among them and bound him before their eyes.

⁵ Simeon and Levi are brothers, weapons of violence are their swords. ⁶ O my soul, do not come into their council, to their assembly, my glory, do not be united, because they killed* a man in their anger and they hocked an ox in their self-will.

¹ And there went a man of the house of Levi and took a wife a daughter of Levi.

²⁶ then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Whoever is on Jehovah's side, come to me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. ²⁷ And he said to them, Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Put every man his sword upon his thigh and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp and kill* every man his brother and every man his companion and every man his neighbor.
²⁸ And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. And there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. ²⁹ And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves today to Jehovah, yes, every man against his son and against his brother, that he may bestow upon you* a blessing this day.

² And your brothers also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring near with you, that they may be joined to you and minister to you, but you and your sons with you will be before the tent of the testimony. ³ And they will keep your charge and the charge of all the tent. Only they will not come near to the vessels of the sanctuary and to the altar, that they not die, neither they, nor you*. ⁴ And they will be joined to you and keep the charge of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the tent and a stranger will not come near to you*.

⁸ And of Levi he said, Your Thummim and your Urim are with your holy man, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you contended at the waters of Meribah, ⁹ who said of his father and of his mother, I have not seen him, neither did he acknowledge his brothers, nor knew he his own sons, for they have observed your word and keep your covenant. ¹⁰ They will teach Jacob your ordinances and Israel your law. They will put incense before you and whole burnt offering upon your altar.

²⁶ And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid were : Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

¹ And it happened at that time, that Judah went down from his brothers and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah. ² And Judah saw a daughter of a certain Canaanite there whose name was Shua. And he took her and went in to her. ³ And she conceived and bore a son and he called his name Er. ⁴ And she conceived again and bore a son and she called his name Onan. ⁵ And she yet again bore a son and called his name Shelah. And he was at Chezib, when she bore him.
⁶ And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn and her name was Tamar. ⁷ And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah and Jehovah killed him. ⁸ And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her and raise up seed to your brother.
⁹ And Onan knew that the seed would not be his. And it happened, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother. ¹⁰ And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of Jehovah and he also killed him.
¹¹ Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in law, Remain a widow in your father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up, because he said, Lest he also die, like his brothers. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house. ¹² And Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died in process of time. And Judah was comforted and went up to his sheep shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
¹³ And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Timnah to shear his sheep. ¹⁴ And she put the garments of her widowhood off from her and covered herself with her veil and wrapped herself and sat in the gateway of two-springs Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah, becauses he saw that Shelah was grown up and she was not given to him as a wife.

And she said, What will you give me, that you may come in to me?
¹⁷ And he said, I will send you a kid of the goats from the flock.
And she said, Will you give me a pledge, till you send it? ¹⁸ And he said, What pledge shall I give you?
And she said, Your signet and your cord and your staff that is in your hand. And he gave them to her and came in to her and she conceived by him. ¹⁹ And she arose and went away and put off her veil from her and put on the garments of her widowhood.
²⁰ And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand, but he did not find her. ²¹ Then he asked the men of her place, saying, Where is the prostitute, who was at two-springs Enaim by the wayside?
And they said, There has been no prostitute here.
²² And he returned to Judah and said, I have not found her and also the men of the place said, There has been no prostitute here.
²³ And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we are put to shame. Behold, I sent this kid and you have not found her.
²⁴ And it happened about three months after, that it was told to Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the prostitute and moreover, behold, she is with child by prostitution.
And Judah said, Bring her forth and let her be burnt.
²⁵ When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man, whose these are, I am with child. And she said, I beseech you, discern whose these are, the signet and the cords and the staff. ²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them and said, She is more righteous than I, inasmuch as I did not give her to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.
²⁷ And it happened in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb. ²⁸ And it happened, when she travailed, that one put out a hand. And the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
²⁹ And it happened, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out. And she said, Why have you made a breach for yourself? Therefore his name was called Perez. ³⁰ And afterward his brother came out, who had the scarlet thread upon his hand. And his name was called Zerah.

⁸ And Judah said to Israel his father, Send the young man with me and we will arise and go, that we may live and not die, both we and you and also our little ones. ⁹ I will be a surety for him, of my hand will you require him. If I do not bring him to you and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever.

¹⁸ Then Judah came near to him and said, Oh, my lord, I beseech you, let your servant speak a word in my lord's ears and do not let your anger burn against your servant, because you are even as Pharaoh.
¹⁹ My lord asked his servants, saying, Have you* a father, or a brother? ²⁰ And we said to my lord, We have a father, an old man and a child of his old age, a little one. And his brother is dead and he alone is left of his mother and his father loves him.
²¹ And you said to your servants, Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes upon him. ²² And we said to my lord, The young man cannot leave his father, if he should leave his father, his father would die. ²³ And you said to your servants, Unless your* youngest brother come down with you*, you* will see my face no more.
²⁴ And it happened when we came up to your servant my father, we told him the words of my lord. ²⁵ And our father said, Go again, buy us a little food. ²⁶ And we said, We cannot go down. If our youngest brother is with us, then will we go down, because we may not see the man's face unless our youngest brother be with us.
²⁷ And your servant my father said to us, You* know that my wife bore me two sons. ²⁸ And the one went out from me and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces and I have not seen him since. ²⁹ And if you* take this one also from me and harm befall him, you* will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.
³⁰ Now therefore when I come to your servant my father and the young man is not with us, since his life is bound up in the young man's life, ³¹ it will happen, when he sees that the young man is not with us, that he will die. And your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant our father with sorrow to Sheol. ³² For your servant became a surety for the young man to my father, saying, If I do not bring him to you, then I will bear the blame to my father forever.
³³ Now therefore, I beseech you, let your servant abide a bondman to my lord instead of the young man and let the young man go up with his brothers. ³⁴ For how shall I go up to my father, if the young man is not with me? Lest I see the evil that will come on my father.

¹² And the sons of Judah were : Er and Onan and Shelah and Perez and Zerah. But Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

⁸ Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father's sons will bow down before you. ⁹ Judah is a lion's cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion and as a lioness, who will rouse him up?
¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and to him will the obedience of the peoples be. ¹¹ Binding his foal to the vine and his donkey's colt to the choice vine, he has washed his garments in wine and his raiment in the blood of grapes. ¹² His eyes will be red with wine and his teeth white with milk.

⁷ And this is of Judah: And he said, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of Judah and bring him into his people. With his hands he contended for himself and you will be a help against his adversaries.

² Now Judah prevailed above his brothers and the ruler came from him, but the birthright was Joseph's),

² Abraham fathered Isaac; and Isaac fathered Jacob; and Jacob fathered Judah and his brethren;
