¹ Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. ² Then Pashhur killed* Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah. ³ And it happened on the morrow, that Pashhur brought out Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, Jehovah has not called your name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.
⁴ For Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. And they will fall by the sword of their enemies and your eyes will behold it. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will carry them captive to Babylon and will kill them with the sword.
⁵ Moreover I will give all the riches of this city and all the gains of it and all the precious things of it, yes, all the treasures of the kings of Judah I will give into the hand of their enemies. And they will make them a prey and take them and carry them to Babylon.
⁶ And you, Pashhur and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity. And you will come to Babylon and there you will die and there you will be buried, you and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.
⁷ O Jehovah, you have persuaded me and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I and have prevailed. I have become a laughing-stock all the day; everyone mocks me. ⁸ For as often as I speak, I cry out. I cry, Violence and destruction! Because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach to me and a ridicule, all the day.
⁹ And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones and I am weary with forbearing and I cannot.
¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall. Perhaps he will be persuaded and we will prevail against him and we will take our revenge on him.
¹¹ But Jehovah is with me as an awesome mighty one. Therefore my persecutors will stumble and they will not prevail. They will be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which will never be forgotten.
¹² But, O Jehovah of hosts, who tries the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my cause.
¹³ Sing to Jehovah. Praise Jehovah, for he has delivered the soul of the needy man from the hand of evildoers.
¹⁴ Cursed be the day in which I was born. Do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought news to my father, saying, A male-child is born to you, making him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew and did not relent. And let him hear a cry in the morning and shouting at noontime, ¹⁷ because he did not kill me from the womb and so my mother would have been my grave and her womb always great.
¹⁸ Why did I come forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold.

¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer,

⁸ And his rulers gave for a free-will offering to the people, to the priests and to the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the rulers of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small cattle and three hundred oxen.

³⁷ The sons of Immer, a thousand fifty-two. ³⁸ The sons of Pashhur, a thousand two hundred forty-seven.

¹ Now while speaking to the people, the priests and the magistrate of the temple and the Sadducees stood by them,

²⁴ Now as both the magistrate of the temple and the priest heard these words and with the high-priests, they were perplexed concerning them and whatever had happened.

²⁷ and say, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction until I come in peace.

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in the prison-house. For he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

²¹ And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Jehovah.

²⁷ You also put my feet in the stocks and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet.

¹⁹ And they will fight against you. But they will not prevail against you, for I am with you, says Jehovah, to deliver you.

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah came from Topheth, where Jehovah had sent him to prophesy and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house and said to all the people, ¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

⁸ And it happened, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, You will surely die.

²⁶ Jehovah has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man who is mad and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

²⁶ And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet, but Jehovah hid them.

¹³ And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah. And he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Chaldeans.

¹⁵ And the rulers were angry with Jeremiah and killed* him and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made that the prison.
¹⁶ When Jeremiah came into the house in the pit and into the cells and Jeremiah had remained there many days,

⁶ Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the pit of Malchijah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down with cords. And in the pit there was no water, but mud and Jeremiah sank in the mud.
⁷ Now when Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the pit (the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin),

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam King of Israel, saying, Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. ¹¹ For thus Amos says: Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will surely be led away captive out of his land.
¹² Also Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah and there eat bread and prophesy there. ¹³ But do not prophesy again any more at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and it is a royal house.

¹⁰ All the land will be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. And she will be lifted up and will dwell in her place, from Benjamin's gate to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate and from the tower of Hananel to the king's wine-presses.

¹⁰ Those who have been persecuted because of righteousness are fortunate, because theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. ¹¹ You are fortunate whenever they reproach and persecute you and say every evil word against you–lying, because of me. ¹² Rejoice and be glad, because your reward is much in the heavens; for thus, they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³⁵ And then the farmers took his bondservants and whipped one, and killed one and stoned one.

³⁴ Because of this, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes, and out of them you will be killing and will be crucifying, and some of them you will be scourging in your synagogues and will be persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.
³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

³ And they put hands on them and placed them in jail to the next-day; for it was already dusk.

¹⁸ and they put their hands upon the apostles and placed them in the public jail.

⁴⁰ Now they were persuaded by him, and having called the apostles to them, they whipped them, and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus and released them.

⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who proclaimed beforehand God’s message concerning the coming of the Righteous One; of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

²² And the crowd stood up together against them, and the magistrates, having ripped off their garments, were commanding the sergeants to lash them with rods. ²³ And having laid many lashes on them, they cast them into prison, after having commanded the jailor to securely guard them. ²⁴ Having received such a command, he cast them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the wood stocks.

³⁶ and others received a trial from mocking and scourges, but still more, from bonds and prison: ³⁷ they were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were tempted; they died in murder from the sword; they went around in sheepskins, and in hides; they were lacking, being afflicted, and being mistreated,

¹⁰ Let no one fear the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some from you into prison, in order that you may be tested and you will have affliction ten days. Become faithful to death and I will be giving you the crown of life.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the holy-ones and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. And I marveled when I saw her– with great marvel!

⁵ Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, because I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

¹⁵ And God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you will not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

²⁸ And he said, Your name will be called Jacob no more, but Israel, because you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.

¹³ Because I have heard the slander of many. Terror was on every side, while they took counsel together against me. They devised to take away my life.

³ And I went to the prophetess and she conceived and bore a son.
Then Jehovah said to me, Call his name Make Haste to Plunder! Hurry to the Spoil!

²⁵ Do not go forth into the field, nor walk by the way, for the sword of the enemy and terror, are on every side.

³² Therefore, behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that it will no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter. For they will bury in Topheth, till there is no place to bury.

² and go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the Earthen Vessels Gate and proclaim there the words that I will tell you.

⁶ therefore behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that this place will no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall. Perhaps he will be persuaded and we will prevail against him and we will take our revenge on him.

²⁹ And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

⁵ Why have I seen it?
They are dismayed and have turned backward. And their mighty ones are beaten down and have fled in flight and do not look back. Terror is on every side, says Jehovah.

²² You have called, as in the day of a solemn assembly, my terrors on every side. And there was none who escaped or remained in the day of Jehovah's anger. My enemy has consumed those whom I have dandled and brought up.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Call his name Jezreel, for yet a little while and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu and will cause the kingdom of the house of Israel to cease. ⁵ And it will happen at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
⁶ And she conceived again and bore a daughter. And Jehovah said to him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah, for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.
⁷ But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah and will save them by Jehovah their God and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.
⁸ Now when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son. ⁹ And Jehovah said, Call his name Lo-ammi, for you* are not my people and I will not be yours*.

⁵ Now it happened upon the next-day, that their rulers and the elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; ⁶ and Annas the high-priest was there and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and as many as were from the high-priestly race. ⁷ And having stood them in the middle, they were inquiring, In what power or in what name, have you done this?

³⁰ and having led them out, he said, Lords, what is essential for me to do in order that I might be saved?

³⁵ But when it became day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, Release those men.
³⁶ Now the jailor reported these words to Paul, saying, The magistrates have sent me in order that you should be released. Therefore when you come out now, travel in peace.
³⁷ But Paul said to them, They have whipped us in public, uncondemned men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison, and are they now casting us out secretly? No, but when they come, let them lead us outside.
³⁸ Now the sergeants reported these words to the magistrates and they feared, having heard that they were Romans. ³⁹ And when they came, they pleaded with them, and having led them outside, they asked them to go out away from the city.

³² Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. And your eyes will look and fail with longing for them all the day and there will be nothing in the power of your hand. ³³ The fruit of your ground and all your labors, will a nation eat up which you do not know. And you will only be oppressed and crushed always, ³⁴ so that you will be mad because of the sight of your eyes which you will see.

⁶⁵ And among these nations you will find no ease and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot, but Jehovah will give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and pining of soul. ⁶⁶ And your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear night and day and will have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, Would it were evening! and at evening you will say, Would it were morning! for the fear of your heart which you will fear and for the sight of your eyes which you will see.

³³ And the man of your, whom I will not cut off from my altar, will be to consume your eyes and to grieve your heart. And all the increase of your house will die in the flower of their age.

⁷ And they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in fetters and carried him to Babylon.

¹¹ Terrors will make him afraid on every side and will chase him at his heels. ¹² His strength will be weakened by hunger and calamity will be ready at his side. ¹³ The members of his body will be devoured. The firstborn of death will devour his body-parts. ¹⁴ He will be rooted out of his tent where he trusts and he will be brought to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ There will dwell in his tent what is none of his. Brimstone will be scattered upon his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots will be dried up beneath and above his limbs be will cut off.
¹⁷ His remembrance will perish from the earth and he will have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He will be driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He will have neither son nor son's son among his people, nor any remaining where he traveled. ²⁰ Those who come after will be astonished at his day, as those who went before were frightened.
²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous and this is the place of him who does not know God.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God will cast the fierceness of his wrath upon him and will rain it upon him while he is eating. ²⁴ He will flee from the iron weapon and the bow of brass will pass him through. ²⁵ He draws it forth and it comes out of his body, yes, the glittering point comes out of his gall. Terrors are upon him. ²⁶ All darkness is laid up for his treasures. A fire not blown will devour him. It will consume what is left in his tent.

¹⁹ How they have become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁵ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

⁴ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your* hands, with which you* fight against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who besiege you*, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation. ⁶ And I will kill* the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They will die of a great pestilence.
⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
⁸ And you will say to this people, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I set before you* the way of life and the way of death. ⁹ He who abides in this city will die by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence. But he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you*, he will live and his life will be to him for a prey.
¹⁰ For I have set my face upon this city for evil and not for good, says Jehovah. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says Jehovah and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant and will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants of it and against all these nations all around. And I will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and everlasting desolations.

²¹ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you* in my name. Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he will kill them before your* eyes.

²⁷ Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me? ²⁸ Therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he will take it. ²⁹ And the Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
³⁰ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have done only what was evil in my sight from their youth. For the sons of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Jehovah.
³¹ For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, that I should remove it from before my face,

⁶ Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes. Also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.

²⁷ And the king of Babylon killed* them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.

¹⁷ And they will take up a lamentation over you and say to you, How you are destroyed, who were inhabited by seafaring men, the renowned city that was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be on all who dwelt there! ¹⁸ Now the isles will tremble in the day of your fall. Yes, the isles that are in the sea will be dismayed at your departure.
¹⁹ For thus says the lord Jehovah: When I will make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited, when I will bring up the deep upon you and the great waters will cover you, ²⁰ then I will bring you down with those who descend into the pit, to the people of old time and will make you to dwell in the nether parts of the earth, in the places that are desolate of old, with those who go down to the pit, that you not be inhabited. And I will set glory in the land of the living.
²¹ I will make you a horror and you will no more have any being. Though you are sought for, yet you will not be found again everlasting, says the lord Jehovah.

⁴ saying, I have sinned, giving up innocent blood.
But they said, What is that to us? You will see to it. ⁵ And tossing the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And having gone away, he hanged himself.

¹⁷ Behold, the days come that all that is in your house and what your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says Jehovah. ¹⁸ And of your sons who will go forth from you, whom you will beget, they will take away. And they will be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

¹² And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he and his mother and his servants and his princes and his officers. And the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.
¹³ And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king's house and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold, which Solomon King of Israel had made in the temple of Jehovah, as Jehovah had said. ¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem and all the rulers and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives and all the craftsmen and the blacksmiths. None remained except the poorest sort of the people of the land.
¹⁵ And he carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon. And the king's mother and the king's wives and his officers and the chief men of the land, he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. ¹⁶ And all the men of might, even seven thousand and the craftsmen and the blacksmiths a thousand, all of them strong and able for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

¹³ And the pillars of brass that were in the house of Jehovah and the bases and the brazen sea that were in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁴ And they took away the pots and the shovels and the snuffers and the spoons and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered. ¹⁵ And the captain of the guard took away the censors and the basins, what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver.
¹⁶ The two pillars, the one sea and the bases, which Solomon had made for the house of Jehovah, the brass of all these vessels was without weight. ¹⁷ The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits and a capital of brass was upon it. And the height of the capital was three cubits, with lattice-work and pomegranates upon the capital all around, all of brass. And the second pillar had like these with lattice-work.

¹⁰ And at the return of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Jehovah and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁷ Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed. He gave them all into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small and the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king and of his rulers, all these he brought to Babylon.
¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all the palaces of it with fire and destroyed all the good vessels of it.

²⁴ But the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

²⁰ Destruction upon destruction is cried, for the whole land is laid waste. Suddenly my tents are destroyed and my curtains in a moment.

¹² Destroyers have come upon all the bare heights in the wilderness. For the sword of Jehovah devours from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land. No flesh has peace.

¹³ Your substance and your treasures I will give for a spoil without price. And that for all your sins, even in all your borders.

³ O my mountain in the field, I will give your substance and all your treasures for a spoil and your high places, because of sin, throughout all your borders.

⁸ And as the bad figs, which cannot be eaten they are so bad, surely Jehovah says thus: So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah and his rulers and the residue of Jerusalem, who remain in this land and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
⁹ I will even give them up to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them. ¹⁰ And I will send the sword, the famine and the pestilence, among them, till they are consumed from the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.

¹⁹ For Jehovah of hosts says thus concerning the pillars and concerning the sea and concerning the stands and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city, ²⁰ which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem. ²¹ Yes, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of Jehovah and in the house of the king of Judah and at Jerusalem: ²² They will be carried to Babylon and there they will be until the day that I visit them, says Jehovah. Then I will bring them up and restore them to this place.

³ For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy and say, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will take it. ⁴ And Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but will surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon and will speak with him mouth to mouth and his eyes will behold his eyes. ⁵ And he will bring Zedekiah to Babylon and there he will be until I visit him, says Jehovah. Though you* fight with the Chaldeans, you* will not prosper?

² In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.

⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the houses of the people, with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

⁷ Then a breach was made in the city and all the men of war fled and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden, (now the Chaldeans were against the city all around) and they went toward the Arabah. ⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho and all his army was scattered from him.
⁹ Then they took the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. He also killed all the rulers of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ And he put out the eyes of Zedekiah. And the king of Babylon bound him in fetters and carried him to Babylon and put him in prison till the day of his death.
¹² Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, who stood before the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem. ¹³ And he burned the house of Jehovah and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem. Even every great house, he burned with fire. ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem all around.
¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the poorest of the people and the residue of the people who were left in the city and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon and the residue of the multitude. ¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poorest of the land to be vine-dressers and farmer.
¹⁷ And the pillars of brass that were in the house of Jehovah and the bases and the brazen sea that were in the house of Jehovah, the Chaldeans broke in pieces and carried all the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁸ The pots also and the shovels and the snuffers and the basins and the spoons and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away. ¹⁹ And the cups and the censors and the basins and the pots and the lamp-stands and the spoons and the bowls–what was from gold, in gold and what was from silver, in silver–the captain of the guard took away.
²⁰ The two pillars, the one sea and the twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made for the house of Jehovah–the brass of all these vessels was without weight. ²¹ And as for the pillars, the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits and a line of twelve cubits encompassed it and the thickness of it was four fingers; it was hollow. ²² And a capital of brass was upon it. And the height of the one capital was five cubits, with lattice-work and pomegranates upon the capital all around, all of brass. And the second pillar also had like these and pomegranates. ²³ And there were ninety-six pomegranates on the sides. All the pomegranates were a hundred upon the lattice-work all around.

⁷ Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of long-ago. When her people fell into the hand of the adversary and none helped her, the adversaries saw her; they mocked at her desolations.

¹⁰ The adversary has spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things. For she has seen that the nations have entered into her sanctuary, concerning whom you commanded that they should not enter into your assembly.

¹² The kings of the earth did not believe, nor all the inhabitants of the world, that the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy by her prophets in the midst of it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They take treasure and precious things. They have made her widows many in the midst of it.

² And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.

²⁵ Jehovah will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and will flee seven ways before them. And you will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

¹⁵ The elder and the honorable man, he is the head. And the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means. And my people love to have it so. And what will you* do in the end of it?

¹³ For from the least of them even to the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness. And from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely. ¹⁴ They have also lightly healed the hurt of my people, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.
¹⁵ Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, nor could they blush. Therefore they will fall among those who fall. At the time that I visit them they will be cast down, says Jehovah.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others and their fields to those who will possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely. ¹¹ And they have lightly healed the hurt of the daughter of my people, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you* a lying vision and divination and a thing of nothing and the deceit of their own heart.
¹⁵ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name and I did not send them, yet they say, Sword and famine will not be in this land: By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.

⁴ For Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. And they will fall by the sword of their enemies and your eyes will behold it. And I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will carry them captive to Babylon and will kill them with the sword.

¹⁴ In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen a horrible thing. They commit adultery and walk in lies. And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his wickedness. They have all of them become to me as Sodom and the inhabitants of it as Gomorrah.
¹⁵ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood and make them drink the water of gall. For from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone forth into all the land.
¹⁶ Jehovah of hosts says thus: Listen not to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you*. They teach you* vanity. They speak a vision of their own heart and not out of the mouth of Jehovah. ¹⁷ They say continually to those who despise me, Jehovah has said, You* will have peace. And to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil will come upon you*.

²⁵ I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. ²⁶ How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies, even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says Jehovah and tell them. And make my people go-astray by their lies and by their vain boasting. Yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, neither do they profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore Jehovah says thus, Behold, I will send you away from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have spoken rebellion against Jehovah. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

²¹ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you* in my name. Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he will kill them before your* eyes.
²² And of them will be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,

³² therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his seed. He will not have a man to dwell among this people, nor will he behold the good that I will do to my people, says Jehovah, because he has spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

¹⁴ Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you. And they have not uncovered your iniquity, to bring back your captivity, but have seen for you false oracles and causes of banishment.

⁴ O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes in the waste places.
⁵ You* have not gone up into the gaps, nor built up the wall for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of Jehovah. ⁶ They have seen falsehood and lying divination, who say, Jehovah says, but Jehovah has not sent them. And they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed. ⁷ Have you* not seen a false vision and have you* not spoken a lying divination, in that you* say, Jehovah says, But I have not spoken?
⁸ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you*, says the lord Jehovah. ⁹ And my hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who divine lies. They will not be in the council of my people, nor will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel.
And you* will know that I am the lord Jehovah.
¹⁰ Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace and there is no peace and when a man builds up a wall, behold, they daub it with untempered mortar, ¹¹ say to those who daub it with untempered mortar, that it will fall.
There will be an overflowing shower and you*, O great hailstones, will fall and a stormy wind will tear it. ¹² Behold, when the wall has fallen, will it not be said to you*, Where is the daubing with which you* have daubed it?
¹³ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: I will even tear it with a stormy wind in my wrath and there will be an overflowing shower in my anger and great hailstones in wrath to consume it.
¹⁴ So I will break down the wall that you* have daubed with untempered mortar and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it will be uncovered. And it will fall and you* will be consumed in the midst of it.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
¹⁵ Thus I will accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have daubed it with untempered mortar. And I will say to you*, The wall is no more, nor those who daubed it, ¹⁶ namely, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and who see visions of peace for her and there is no peace, says the lord Jehovah.

²² Because with lies you* have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way and be saved alive. ²³ Therefore you* will no more see false visions, nor divine divinations. And I will deliver my people out of your* hand.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

²⁸ And her prophets have daubed with untempered mortar for them, seeing false visions and divining lies to them, saying, The lord Jehovah says thus, when Jehovah has not spoken.

¹¹ If a man walking in a spirit of falsehood lies, saying, I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink, he will even be the prophet of this people.

³ And it will happen that, when any will yet prophesy, then his father and his mother who fathered him will say to him, You will not live, for you speak lies in the name of Jehovah. And his father and his mother who fathered him will thrust him through when he prophesies.

⁸ But Elymas the magician (for so is his name by translation) was standing against them, seeking to pervert the proconsul away from the faith. ⁹ But Saul, also called Paul, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, stared toward him, ¹⁰ and said, O full of all treachery and all villainy, you son of the devil, enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? ¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and will not see the sun till the next season. Now instantly dimness and darkness fell upon him, and going around, he was seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹ But false prophets happened to be also among the people, as false teachers will also be among you, who will be smuggling in sects of destruction, denying even the Master who bought them, bringing quick destruction upon themselves. ² And many will be following their unbridled-lusts, because of whom the way of the truth will be blasphemed. \ulnone\nosupersub ³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

²² And Moses returned to Jehovah and said, Lord, why have you dealt ill with this people? Why is it that you have sent me? ²³ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has dealt ill with this people, neither have you delivered your people at all.

¹¹ And Moses said to Jehovah, Why have you dealt ill with your servant? And why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me? ¹² Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that you should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nurturing father carries the sucking child, to the land which you swore to their fathers? ¹³ From where should I have flesh to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
¹⁴ I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. ¹⁵ And if you deal thus with me, I beseech you, kill me out of hand, if I have found favor in your sight and do not let me see my wretchedness.

²³ And he went up from there to Bethel. And as he was going up by the way, there came out young lads out of the city and mocked him and said to him, Go up, you baldheaded; go up, you baldheaded.

⁶ But I am a worm and no man, a reproach of men and despised by the people. ⁷ All those who see me laugh me to scorn. They shoot out the lip. They shake the head, saying,

¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered themselves together. The slayers gathered themselves together against me and I did not know it. They tore me and ceased not. ¹⁶ Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

⁹ Because the zeal of your house has eaten me up and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen upon me.
¹⁰ When I wept in my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a parable to them. ¹² Those who sit at the gate talk of me and I am the song of the drunkards.

⁶ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am a child. ⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a child. For I will send you to whomever; you will go and whatever I will command you; you will speak.
⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.

¹⁸ For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city and an iron pillar and brazen walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the rulers of it, against the priests of it and against the people of the land.
¹⁹ And they will fight against you. But they will not prevail against you, for I am with you, says Jehovah, to deliver you.

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have bore me, a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, nor have men lent to me, yet every one of them curses me.

¹⁸ Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail?

¹⁶ As for me, I have not hastened from being a shepherd after you, nor have I desired the woeful day. You know. What came out of my lips was before your face.

⁹ And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones and I am weary with forbearing and I cannot.

¹⁴ I have become a laughing-stock to all my people and their song all the day.

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away. And I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit and the hand of Jehovah was strong upon me.

⁷ The days of visitation have come. The days of recompense have come. Israel will know it. The prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the abundance of your iniquity and because the enmity is great.

⁸ But as for me, I am full of power by the Spirit of Jehovah and of judgment and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

¹⁴ Now the Pharisees, who are money-lovers, were also hearing all these things, and they were ridiculing him.

⁶³ And the men who held Jesus were mocking him, whipping him. ⁶⁴ And having covered him, they were beating his face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy. Who is it who struck you?

¹¹ Now Herod, together with his soldiers, having scorned and having mocked him, and having dressed him in bright apparel, sent him back to Pilate.

³⁵ And the people stood viewing and the rulers together with them were also ridiculing him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this one is the Christ, the chosen of God.
³⁶ Now the soldiers were also mocking him, coming near to him and offering him vinegar,

¹⁸ Now also some of the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers were encountering him and some were saying, Whatever does this babbler wish to say?
Some said, He seems to be a proclaimer of strange demons, because he is proclaiming the good-news of Jesus and the resurrection.

³² Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some were sneering, but some said, We will hear you concerning this again.

⁹ For I am thinking that God has showed us, the apostles, last of all, as men doomed to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to messengers and men. ¹⁰ We are foolish because of Christ, but you are prudent in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are glorious, but we are dishonored. ¹¹ We are both hungry and thirsty, till the current hour, and are naked and are battered and are homeless; ¹² and we are laboring, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we are speaking well of them; being persecuted, we are tolerating it; ¹³ being blasphemed, we are encouraging. We have become like the scums of the world, the garbage of all things, even until now.

⁶ Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no authority not to work?

³⁶ and others received a trial from mocking and scourges, but still more, from bonds and prison:

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹⁹ My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart. My heart is in an uproar in me. I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war. ²⁰ Destruction upon destruction is cried, for the whole land is laid waste. Suddenly my tents are destroyed and my curtains in a moment.
²¹ How long shall I see the standard and hear the sound of the trumpet? ²² For my people are foolish. They do not know me.
They are foolish sons and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but they have no knowledge to do good.

¹ Run you* to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem and see now and know and seek in the broad places of it, if you* can find a man, if there is any who does justly, who seeks truth and I will pardon her.

⁶ Therefore a lion out of the forest will kill them; a wolf of the evenings will destroy them; a leopard will watch against their cities. Everyone who goes out from there will be torn in pieces, because their transgressions are many and their backslidings are increased.

¹⁵ Behold, I will bring a nation upon you* from far, O house of Israel, says Jehovah. It is a mighty nation. It is an nation of old, a nation whose language you do not know, nor understand what they say. ¹⁶ Their quiver is an open sepulcher. They are all mighty men.
¹⁷ And they will eat up your harvest and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They will eat up your flocks and your herds. They will eat up your vines and your fig trees. They will beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.

⁶ For thus has Jehovah of hosts said: Hew you* down trees and cast up a mound against Jerusalem. This is the city to be visited. She has oppression completely in the midst of her. ⁷ As a well casts forth its waters, so she casts forth her wickedness. Violence and destruction is heard in her. Continually before me is sickness and wounds.

¹⁰ To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised and they cannot listen. Behold, the word of Jehovah has become a reproach to them; they have no delight in it.

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known,

¹³ Then you will say to them, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings who sit upon David's throne and the priests and the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
¹⁴ And I will smash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says Jehovah. I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

¹ Then Jehovah said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people. Cast them out of my sight and let them go forth.
² And it will happen, when they say to you, Where will we go forth? Then you will tell them, Jehovah says thus: Such as are for death, to death and such as are for the sword, to the sword and such as are for the famine, to the famine and such as are for captivity, to captivity.
³ And I will appoint over them four kinds, says Jehovah: the sword to kill and the dogs to tear and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy.
⁴ And I will cause them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem.

¹³ Your substance and your treasures I will give for a spoil without price. And that for all your sins, even in all your borders. ¹⁴ And I will make them to pass with your enemies into a land which you do not know. For a fire is kindled in my anger, which will burn upon you*.

²⁷ But if you* will not listen to me to sanctify the Sabbath day and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in the gates of it and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it will not be quenched.

¹⁶ to make their land an astonishment and a everlasting hissing, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and shake his head. ¹⁷ I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy. I will show them the back and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

⁷ And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. And I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life. And I will give their dead bodies to be food for the birds of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.
⁸ And I will make this city an astonishment and a hissing. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues of it.
⁹ And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters. And they will eat each one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life, will distress them.
¹⁰ Then you will break the earthenware in the sight of the men who go with you, ¹¹ and will say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus: Even so I will break this people and this city, as a potter's vessel is broken, that cannot be made whole again. And they will bury in Topheth till there is no place to bury.

⁷ O Jehovah, you have persuaded me and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I and have prevailed. I have become a laughing-stock all the day; everyone mocks me.

⁸ The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries and against great kingdoms, of war and of evil and of pestilence.

⁶¹ You have heard their reproach, O Jehovah and all their devices against me, ⁶² the lips of those who rose up against me and their meditation is against me all the day. ⁶³ Behold their sitting down and their rising up. I am their song.

⁴⁵ Now someone from the professors of the law, answered and says to him, Teacher, you are also insulting us in saying these things.

²⁶ having deemed the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward.

¹³ Now-then let us go forth to him outside the encampment, carrying his reproach.

¹⁴ If you are reproached in the name of Christ, you are fortunate, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. He is indeed blasphemed according to their manner, but he is glorified according to your manner.

³ And when he saw that, he arose and went for his life. And he came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah and left his servant there. ⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree. And he requested for himself that he might die and said, It is enough, now, O Jehovah, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.

¹⁸ for I am full of words. The spirit within me compels me. ¹⁹ Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent. Like new wine-skins it is ready to burst. ²⁰ I will speak that I may be refreshed. I will open my lips and answer.

³ My heart was hot within me. While I was musing the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:

¹¹ Therefore I am full of the wrath of Jehovah. I am weary with holding in. Pour it out upon the sons in the street and upon the assembly of young men together. For even the husband with the wife will be taken, the aged with him who is full of days.

⁶² But Jesus said to him, No one, having put his hand upon the plow and looking behind, is fit for the kingdom of God.

² This one was in the beginning with God. ³ All things became through him, and without him nothing became that has become into being.

² (although Jesus himself was not immersing, but his disciples did), ³ he left Judea and went away into Galilee.

²⁰ For we are not able to speak, but the things which we saw and heard.

³⁷ Now Barnabas also planned to take together with them John, the one called Mark. ³⁸ But Paul was not deeming it worthy to take Mark together with them, the one who withdrew away from them from Pamphylia and did not go together with them to the work.

¹⁶ Now while Paul is waiting for them in Athens, the spirit was being irritated in him, while viewing the idol ridden city.

⁵ Now as Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was being troubled in the spirit, thoroughly testifying to the Jews: the Christ Jesus.

¹⁶ For if I proclaim the good-news, it is not boasting to me; for necessity is laid upon me, but woe is to me, if I, myself, do not proclaim the good-news. ¹⁷ For if I am doing this voluntarily, I have a reward, but if I do so involuntarily, I have been entrusted with a stewardship.

¹³ For whether we were crazy, it was to God; or whether we are sensible, it is for you. ¹⁴ For the love of Christ is holding us together with him, having judged this thing: if one died on behalf of all, consequently, all died; ¹⁵ and he died on behalf of all, in order that those who are living should no longer live to themselves, but to the one who died and rose again on their behalf.

² Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of Jehovah.

⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

⁶ in which was written, It is reported among the nations and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews think to rebel, for which cause you are building the wall. And you would be their king according to these words.
⁷ And you have also appointed prophets to preach of you at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah. And now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore and let us take counsel together.
⁸ Then I sent to him, saying, There are no such things done as you say, but you imagine them out of your own heart. ⁹ For they all would have made us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened from the work that it not be done. But now, O God, strengthen you my hands.
¹⁰ And I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut up and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple and let us shut the doors of the temple. For they will come to kill you, yes, they will come to kill you in the night. ¹¹ And I said, Should such a man as I flee? And who is there, that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
¹² And I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me and Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ For this cause he was hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

¹⁹ All my familiar friends abhor me and those whom I loved are turned against me.

⁹ Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my familiar friend. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together. We walked in the house of God with the crowd.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue is a sharp sword.

² Hide me from the secret counsel of evildoers, from the tumult of the workers of wickedness, ³ who have flashed their tongue like a sword and have aimed their arrows, even bitter words, ⁴ that they may shoot in secret places at a blameless man. Suddenly do they shoot at him and do not fear.

¹⁸ He who hides hatred is from lying lips. And he who utters a slander is a fool.

²¹ who make a man an offender in his cause and lay a snare for him who reproves in the gate and turn aside the just with a thing of nothing.

¹⁸ Then they said, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah. For the law will not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us kill* him with the tongue and let us not give heed to any of his words.

⁹ Slanderers have been in you to shed blood and in you they have eaten upon the mountains. In the midst of you they have committed lewdness.

⁵⁹ Now the high-priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus, how they might slay him; ⁶⁰ and they did not find any, even though many false witnesses came. Still, they did not find any.

¹⁹ But Herodias was holding it against him. And she was willing to kill him and was not able; ²⁰ for Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and was protecting him. And having heard him, he was doing many things, and was gladly hearing him, often.
²¹ And when it happened to be an opportune day, along with his birthday, when Herod made a supper to his great-men and the commanders, and the foremost men of Galilee; ²² and the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and she pleased Herod and those who reclined at the meal together with him. And the king said to the girl, Ask me whatever you wish and I will be giving it to you. ²³ And he swore to her, Whatever you might ask me, I will be giving it to you, up to half of my kingdom.
²⁴ Now she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask for?
Now she said, The head of John the Immerser.
²⁵ And she came in promptly to the king and diligently asked, saying, I wish that you might give me immediately the head of John the Immerser upon a platter.
²⁶ And the king became very sorrowful, but because of his oaths and those who reclined at the meal together with him, he did not wish to reject her. ²⁷ And immediately, the king sent forth an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. ²⁸ Now he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head upon a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.

⁵³ Now while saying these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began terribly to hold everything against him, and to quiz him for unrehearsed answers concerning many things; ⁵⁴ plotting against him, seeking to trap him in something out of his mouth, in order that they might accuse him.

⁵² For there will be from hereafter five in one house having been divided, three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ Father will be divided against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

²⁰ And having observed him, they sent forth agents, who themselves pretended to be righteous, in order that they might grab him from his speech, that they might give him to the rule and the authority of the governor.

³³ But hearing this, they were being infuriated and were planning to assassinate them.

¹¹ Then they instigated men, saying, We have heard him speak blasphemous declarations at Moses and God. ¹² And they agitated the people and the elders and the scribes and standing against him, seized him and led him into the council.
¹³ And false witnesses stood up, who said, This man is not ceasing to speak blasphemous declarations against this holy place and the law; ¹⁴ for we have heard him saying, that this Jesus the Nazarene will be tearing-down this place and will be changing the customs which Moses gave to us. ¹⁵ And all who sat in the council, having stared toward him, saw his face was like the face of a messenger.

⁵⁴ Now hearing these things, they were being infuriated in their hearts and they were gnashing their teeth at him.

¹² Now when it became day, some of the Jews made a conspiracy and they vowed for themselves, saying, they were neither to eat nor to drink until they should have killed Paul. ¹³ Now they were more-than forty who had made this gang; ¹⁴ who came to the high-priests and the elders and said, We have vowed to be accursed, to taste nothing until we should have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Therefore now, you, together with the council, disclose it to the commander that he should be led to you the next-day, as if being about to investigate more accurately the things concerning him. Now we are ready to assassinate him before he draws near.

¹ Now after five days, the high-priest Ananias with the elders and an orator came down, someone named Tertullus, who disclosed to the governor the charges against Paul. ² Now having been called, Tertullus began to accuse Paul, saying, We are obtaining much peace through you and public-reforms are happening to this nation through your forethought. ³ We are accepting it both in all things and everywhere, with all thanksgiving, most-excellent Felix. ⁴ But in order that I may not hinder you more, I plead with you by your gentleness to hear us briefly. ⁵ For we have found this man a plague, and he is moving this dissension to all the Jews throughout the inhabited-earth. And he is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes; ⁶ who also attempted to profane the temple; whom we also took-hold of. And was willing to be judged according to our law. \ulnone\nosupersub ⁷ Now Lysias the commander having come near, with much violence, did take away Paul out of our hands, \ulnone\nosupersub ⁸ having commanded his accusers to come to you. From whom, having examined him, you will be able to fully know concerning all these things of which we are accusing him. ⁹ But the Jews themselves banded together in the attack, thus claiming these things to hold truth.

¹³ nor are they able to present things concerning me, of which they are now accusing me.

³⁵ Vengeance is for me and recompense at the time when their foot will slip. For the day of their calamity is at hand and the things that are to come upon them will make haste. ³⁶ For Jehovah will judge his people and regrets for his servants, when he sees that their power has gone and there is none remaining, shut up or left at large.

¹⁰ All my enemies will be put to shame and greatly troubled. They will turn back. They will be put to shame suddenly.

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my hurt. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who have become great against me.

¹⁴ Let them be put to shame and humiliated together who seek after my soul to destroy it. Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt.

² Because Jehovah Most High is awesome. He is a great King over all the earth.

⁵ You will answer us in righteousness by awesome things, O God of our salvation, you who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth and of those who are from afar off upon the sea,

⁵ Come and see the works of God, awesome in actions toward the sons of men.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

¹⁴ Do not fear, you worm Jacob and you* men of Israel. I will help you, says Jehovah and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁶ They will be put to shame, yes, confounded, all of them. They will go into confusion together who are makers of idols.

⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.

²⁰ And I will make you to this people a fortified brazen wall. And they will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you. For I am with you to save you and to deliver you, says Jehovah.

¹⁸ Let them be put to shame who persecute me, but do not let me be put to shame. Let them be dismayed, but do not let me be dismayed. Bring upon them the day of evil and destroy them with double destruction.

⁴⁰ And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you* and a perpetual shame, which will not be forgotten.

² And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

⁴ Therefore Jesus, knowing all the things which were coming upon him, went forth and says to them, Whom are you seeking?
⁵ They answered him, Jesus the Nazarene.
Jesus says to them, I am he. And Judas, who was giving him up, stood also with them. ⁶ Therefore, as he said to them, I am he, they went back ward and fell to the level-ground.

³¹ Therefore what will we say to these things? If God is working on our behalf, who is against us?

¹⁷ But the Lord stood beside me and empowered me; in order that the preaching might be fully assured through me and in order that all the Gentiles might hear and I was rescued out of the mouth of the lion.

¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Jehovah.

²² Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. And when he died, he said, Jehovah look upon it and require it.

⁹ O let the evil of the wicked man come to an end, but establish the righteous man. For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts.

⁵ Jehovah tries the righteous man. But his soul hates the wicked man and he who loves violence.

³ You have proved my heart. You have visited me in the night. You have tried me and find nothing. I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress.

² Examine me, O Jehovah and prove me. Try my heart and my mind. ³ Because your loving kindness is before my eyes and I have walked in your truth.

⁷ Because he has delivered me out of all trouble and my eye has seen it upon my enemies.

¹⁰ My God with his loving kindness will meet me. God will let me look upon my enemies.

⁸ Trust in him at all times, you* the people. Pour out your* heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.

⁴ Rejoice the soul of your servant, because, I lift up my soul to you, O Lord.

⁶ Set a wicked man over him and let an adversary stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him come out guilty and let his prayer be turned into sin. ⁸ Let his days be few and let another take his office.
⁹ Let his sons be fatherless and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his sons be vagabonds and beg and let them seek out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let a creditor exact all that he has and let strangers make spoil of his labor.
¹² Let there be none to prolong kindness to him, nor let there be any to have pity on his fatherless sons. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the following generation.
¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with Jehovah and do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.
¹⁵ Let them be before Jehovah continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth, ¹⁶ because he did not remember to show kindness, but persecuted the poor and needy man and the broken in heart, to kill.
¹⁷ Yes, he loved cursing and it came to him. And he did not delight in blessing and it was far from him.
¹⁸ He also clothed himself with cursing as with his garment and it came into his inward parts like water and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garments with which he covers himself and for the belt with which he is girded continually.
²⁰ This is the reward of my adversaries from Jehovah and of those who speak evil against my soul.

²³ Search me, O God and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts,

¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah.

¹⁴ Like a swallow or a crane, so I chattered. I moaned as a dove. My eyes fail with looking upward. O Lord, I am oppressed, be my surety.

²⁰ But, O Jehovah of hosts, who judges righteously, who tries the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my case.

⁸ My heritage has become to me as a lion in the forest. She has uttered her voice against me. Therefore I have hated her.

¹⁰ I, Jehovah, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his practices.

¹⁹ Give heed to me, O Jehovah and listen to the voice of those who contend with me. ²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.
²¹ Therefore deliver up their sons to the famine and give them over to the power of the sword and let their wives become childless and widows and let their men be slain of death and their young men struck of the sword in battle. ²² Let a cry be heard from their houses when you will bring a troop suddenly upon them, for they have dug a pit to take me and hid snares for my feet.
²³ Yet, Jehovah, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Do not forgive their iniquity, nor blot out their sin from your sight, but let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.

²³ who, being reviled, was not reviling again in return; when suffering, was not threatening, (but was giving himself to the one who judges righteously),

¹⁹ So-then those who are also suffering according to the will of God in good-doing, let them consign themselves, their souls, as to a faithful Creator.

²³ And I will be killing her children with death, and all the congregations will know that I am he who is searching the kidneys and hearts and I will be giving to you, each one according to your works.

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, Until when, O holy and true Master, do you not judge and avenge our blood from those who dwell upon the earth?

²⁰ Be joyous over her: heaven and the holy-ones and the apostles and the prophets, because God has judged your condemnation from her
.

² because true and righteous are his judgments, because he has judged the great prostitute, she who was corrupting the earth in her fornication and he has avenged the blood of his bondservants from her hand.
³ And they have said a second-time, Hallelujah. And her smoke goes up forevermore.

⁶ This poor man cried and Jehovah heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

⁹ And my soul will be joyful in Jehovah. It will rejoice in his salvation. ¹⁰ All my bones will say, Jehovah, who is like you, who delivers a poor man from him who is too strong for him, yes, a poor and needy man from him who robs him?
¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up, they ask me of things that I do not know.

³³ Because Jehovah hears the needy and does not despise his prisoners.

⁴ He will judge the poor of the people.
He will save the sons of the needy and will break in pieces the oppressor.

³⁰ I will give great thanks to Jehovah with my mouth. Yes, I will praise him among the multitude. ³¹ Because he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.

⁴ For you have been a stronghold to a poor man, a stronghold to a needy man in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat, when the blast of the oppressors is as a storm against the wall.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brethren. Did God not choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to those who love him? ⁶ But you have dishonored the poor. Are the rich not oppressing you? And are they themselves not dragging you into the courts?

³ Let the day perish in which I was born and the night which said, There is a male-child conceived.
⁴ Let that day be darkness. Do not let God from above seek for it, nor let the light shine upon it. ⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death claim it for their own. Let a cloud dwell upon it. Let blackness come upon it. ⁶ As for that night, let thick darkness seize upon it. Let it not rejoice among the days of the year. Let it not come into the number of the months. ⁷ Behold, let that night be barren. Let no joyful voice come in it.
⁸ Let them curse it who curse the day, who are ready to rouse up leviathan. ⁹ Let the stars of the twilight of it be dark. Let it look for light, but have none, nor let it behold the eyelids of the morning. ¹⁰ Because it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hide trouble from my eyes.
¹¹ Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when my mother bore me? ¹² Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breast, that I should suck?
¹³ For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept. Then I would have been at rest ¹⁴ with kings and counselors of the earth, who built waste places for themselves, ¹⁵ or with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.
¹⁶ Or I should have been as a hidden untimely birth, as infants that never saw light.

⁵ And Abraham was a hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born to him.
⁶ And Sarah said, God has made me to laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.

⁵ Before I formed you in the belly I knew you and before you came forth out of the womb I made you holy. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.

¹⁴ And there will be joy and gladness to you, and many will be rejoicing at his birth.

²⁴ Then Jehovah rained brimstone and fire upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, from Jehovah out of heaven. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and all the Plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and what grew upon the ground.

²³ The whole land of it is brimstone and salt, a burning. It is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger and in his wrath,

¹⁹ My anguish, my anguish! I am pained at my very heart. My heart is in an uproar in me. I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from their evil, I will relent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

²² Let a cry be heard from their houses when you will bring a troop suddenly upon them, for they have dug a pit to take me and hid snares for my feet.

¹³ Now therefore amend your* ways and your* practices and obey the voice of Jehovah your* God and Jehovah will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you*.

³ The sound of a cry from Horonaim: Desolation and great destruction! ⁴ Moab is destroyed. Her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

²² In his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to set battering rams, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build forts.

¹⁴ Therefore a tumult will arise among your people and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle; the mother was dashed in pieces with her sons.

⁸ How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I cast you off, Israel? How shall I make you as Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me. My compassions are kindled together.

¹⁴ But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah and it will devour the palaces of it, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.

² But I will send a fire upon Moab and it will devour the palaces of Kerioth and Moab will die with tumult, with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.

¹¹ I have overthrown cities among you*, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and you* were as a brand plucked out of the burning.
Yet you* have not returned to me, says Jehovah.

⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey. And he cried out and said, Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.

⁹ Who knows whether God will not turn and relent and turn away from his fierce anger, that we not perish?
¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. And God relented of the evil which he said he would do to them and he did not do it.

² And he prayed to Jehovah and said, I beseech you, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hastened to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and relent you of the evil.

¹⁶ a day of the trumpet and alarm, against the fortified cities and against the high battlements.

⁹ Therefore as I live, says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab will be as Sodom and the sons of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles and salt pits and a everlasting desolation. The residue of my people will make a prey of them and the remnant of my nation will inherit them.

²⁹ but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all.

⁶ and he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, with a catastrophe, incinerating them, having placed them as an example for those who are about to be ungodly;

⁷ As Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them in a similar manner with these, having indulged in fornication and having gone after different flesh, are laying before us as an example, being held under the sentence of everlasting fire.

¹⁰ Because it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hide trouble from my eyes.
¹¹ Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

¹⁶ Or I should have been as a hidden untimely birth, as infants that never saw light.

¹⁸ Why then have you brought me forth out of the womb? I would have given up the spirit and no eye had seen me. ¹⁹ I should have been as though I had not been. I should have been carried from the womb to the grave.

³ If a man fathers a hundred sons and lives many years so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good and moreover he has no burial, I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.

¹⁶ He said to the woman, I will greatly multiply your pain and your childbearing, in pain you will bring forth children. And your desire will be to your husband and he will rule over you.
¹⁷ And to Adam he said, Because you have obeyed the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You will not eat of it, cursed is the ground for your sake. You will eat of it in toil all the days of your life.
¹⁸ Also, it will bring forth thorns and thistles to you and you will eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹ You will eat bread by the sweat of your face, till you return to the ground, because out of it you were taken. For you are dust and you will return to dust.
²⁰ Why is light given to him who is in misery and life to the bitter in soul,

¹ Man, who is born of a woman, is of few days and full of trouble.

¹³ O that you would hide me in Sheol, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint for me a set time and remember me!

¹⁹ You know my reproach and my shame and my dishonor. My adversaries are all before you.

⁹ Because all our days are passed away in your wrath. We bring our years to an end as a sigh.
¹⁰ The days of our years are threescore years and ten, or even by reason of strength eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow, because it is soon gone and we fly away.

⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it, but wounds and bruises and fresh stripes. They have not been closed nor bound up nor soothed with oil.

⁷ Listen to me, you* who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not fear the reproach of men, nor be you* dismayed at their revilings.

¹⁸ Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! My heart is faint within me.

¹² Is it nothing to you*, all you* who pass by? Behold and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which is brought upon me, with which Jehovah has afflicted in the day of his fierce anger.

¹ I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

²⁰ Assuredly, assuredly, I am saying to you, that you will be weeping and will be mourning, but the world will rejoice. But you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will happen leading you to joy.

⁴¹ Therefore indeed, they were traveling from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were deemed worthy to be dishonored on behalf of the name of Jesus.

¹² Because of which case, I also am suffering these things too, but I am not ashamed; for I know the one whom I have believed and I have confidence that he is able to guard my deposit consigned to him for that day.

³⁶ For you have need of endurance, in order that, having done the will of God, you may get the promise for yourselves.

² Looking away from things, look toward Jesus, the author and completer of the faith, who endured the cross having despised shame, in exchange-for the joy laying before him, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁴ If you are reproached in the name of Christ, you are fortunate, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. He is indeed blasphemed according to their manner, but he is glorified according to your manner. ¹⁵ For let not anyone of you suffer like a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or like a meddler in the affairs of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this respect.
