¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when king Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, ² I beseech you, inquire of Jehovah on our behalf. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
³ Then Jeremiah said to them, Thus you* will say to Zedekiah: ⁴ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your* hands, with which you* fight against the king of Babylon and against the Chaldeans who besiege you*, outside the walls. And I will gather them into the midst of this city.
⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation. ⁶ And I will kill* the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast. They will die of a great pestilence.
⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.
⁸ And you will say to this people, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I set before you* the way of life and the way of death. ⁹ He who abides in this city will die by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence. But he who goes out and passes over to the Chaldeans who besiege you*, he will live and his life will be to him for a prey.
¹⁰ For I have set my face upon this city for evil and not for good, says Jehovah. It will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.
¹¹ And concerning the house of the king of Judah, hear the word of Jehovah. ¹² O house of David, Jehovah says thus: Execute justice in the morning and deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your* practices.
¹³ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley and of the rock of the plain, says Jehovah, you* who say, Who will come down against us? Or who will enter into our habitations? ¹⁴ And I will punish you* according to the fruit of your* practices, says Jehovah. And I will kindle a fire in her forest and it will devour all that is all around her.

¹⁷ And the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin's father's brother, king is his stead and changed his name to Zedekiah. ¹⁸ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

¹⁸ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold. ¹⁹ And he took an officer out of the city who was set over the men of war; and five men of those who saw the king's face, who were found in the city; and the scribe, the captain of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city.
²⁰ And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²¹ And the king of Babylon killed* them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.

¹⁵ And the sons of Josiah: the firstborn Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

¹² and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer,

¹⁰ And at the return of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Jehovah and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.
¹¹ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. ¹² And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of Jehovah.
¹³ And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹² and their brothers who did the work of the house, eight hundred twenty-two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah,

²⁵ Thus speaks Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying,
Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest and to all the priests, saying,

¹ The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the tenth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.
² Now at that time the king of Babylon's army was besieging Jerusalem and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah's house.
³ For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why do you prophesy and say, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will take it.

¹ And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to Jehovah our God on our behalf.

¹ And Shephatiah the son of Mattan and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur and Jucal the son of Shelemiah and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,

¹ Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ² And he did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ³ For it happened through the anger of Jehovah, in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold.

¹ And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ² Speak to the sons of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon. You* will encamp opposite it by the sea.
³ And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in. ⁴ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart and he will follow after them and I will get for me honor upon Pharaoh and upon all his army and the Egyptians will know that I am Jehovah. And they did so.
⁵ And it was told the King of Egypt that the people were fled. And the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people and they said, What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us? ⁶ And he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. ⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and captains over all of them.
⁸ And Jehovah hardened the heart of Pharaoh King of Egypt and he pursued after the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel went out with a high hand. ⁹ And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh and his horsemen and his army and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
¹⁰ And when Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them and they were very afraid. And the sons of Israel cried out to Jehovah.
¹¹ And they said to Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Is not this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
¹³ And Moses said to the people, Do not fear. Stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah, which he will work for you* today, because the Egyptians whom you* have seen today, you* will see them again everlasting. ¹⁴ Jehovah will fight for you* and you* will keep silent.
¹⁵ And Jehovah said to Moses, Why do you cry to me? Speak to the sons of Israel, that they go forward.

¹ Now it happened, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it, as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them, ² that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities and because it was greater than Ai and all the men of it were mighty.
³ Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron and to Piram king of Jarmuth and to Japhia king of Lachish and to Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ Come up to me and help me and let us kill* Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the sons of Israel.
⁵ Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together and went up, they and all their armies and encamped against Gibeon and made war against it. ⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not your hand from your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.
⁷ So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him and all the mighty men of valor. ⁸ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear them not, for I have delivered them into your hands. There will not a man of them stand before you.
⁹ Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly, for he went up from Gilgal all the night. ¹⁰ And Jehovah confused them before Israel and he killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon and killed* them to Azekah and to Makkedah.
¹¹ And it happened, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them to Azekah and they died. More died with the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.

¹ And the sons of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah, when Ehud was dead. ² And Jehovah sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan who reigned in Hazor, the captain of whose army was Sisera who dwelt in Harosheth-hagoyim. ³ And the sons of Israel cried to Jehovah, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron and he mightily oppressed the sons of Israel twenty years.
⁴ Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, she judged Israel at that time. ⁵ And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill-country of Ephraim and the sons of Israel came up to her for judgment.

²⁷ And the sons of Israel asked of Jehovah (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,

¹⁰ And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel, but Jehovah thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines and confused them and they were struck down before Israel. ¹¹ And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines and killed* them until they came under Beth-car.
¹² Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Jehovah has helped us to now.

²² Therefore they asked of Jehovah further, Is there yet a man to come here? And Jehovah answered, Behold, he has hid himself among the baggage.

⁶ And Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, Come and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that Jehovah will work for us, for there is no limitation to Jehovah to save by many or by few. ⁷ And his armor bearer said to him, Do all that is in your heart. Turn and behold, I am with you according to your heart.
⁸ Then Jonathan said, Behold, we will pass over to the men and we will disclose ourselves to them. ⁹ If they say thus to us, Abide until we come to you*, then we will stand still in our place and will not go up to them. ¹⁰ But if they say thus, Come up to us, then we will go up, for Jehovah has delivered them into our hand and this will be the sign to us.
¹¹ And both of them disclosed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines. And the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. ¹² And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer and said, Come up to us and we will show you* a thing. And Jonathan said to his armor bearer, Come up after me, for Jehovah has delivered them into the hand of Israel.
¹³ And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet and his armor bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan and his armor bearer killed them after him.
¹⁴ And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow's length in an acre of land.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
⁴⁶ This day Jehovah will deliver you into my hand and I will kill* you and take your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the armies of the Philistines this day to the birds of the heavens and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, ⁴⁷ and that all this assembly may know that Jehovah saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is Jehovah's and he will give you* into our hand.
⁴⁸ And it happened, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hastened and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. ⁴⁹ And David put his hand in his bag and took from there a stone and slung it and killed* the Philistine in his forehead. And the stone sank into his forehead and he fell upon his face to the earth.
⁵⁰ So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone and killed* the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of Jehovah, Jehovah answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.

¹⁵ And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you shaken me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am greatly distressed, for the Philistines make war against me and God is departed from me and answers me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I will do.

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I beseech you and disguise yourself that you not be known to be the wife of Jeroboam and get you to Shiloh. Behold, there is Ahijah the prophet who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with you ten loaves and cakes and an earthenware of honey and go to him. He will tell you what will become of the child.

³ And the King of Israel said to his servants, Know that Ramoth-gilead is ours and we are still and do not take it out of the hand of the king of Syria? ⁴ And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the King of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.
⁵ And Jehoshaphat said to the King of Israel, I beseech you, inquire first for the word of Jehovah. ⁶ Then the King of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king. ⁷ But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him? ⁸ And the King of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Do not let the king say so.

³ But the messenger of Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, Is it because there is no God in Israel that you* go to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah, that we may inquire of Jehovah by him? And one of the King of Israel's servants answered and said, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah. ¹² And Jehoshaphat said, The word of Jehovah is with him. So the King of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
¹³ And Elisha said to the King of Israel, What have I to do with you? You get to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother. And the King of Israel said to him, No, for Jehovah has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
¹⁴ And Elisha said, As Jehovah of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.

¹³ Go you*, inquire of Jehovah for me and for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found, for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book to do according to all what is written concerning us.
¹⁴ So Hilkiah the priest and Ahikam and Achbor and Shaphan and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter) and they spoke with her.

¹ And it happened in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem and encamped against it. And they built forts against it all around. ² So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.

⁹ And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million and three hundred chariots. And he came to Mareshah. ¹⁰ Then Asa went out to meet him and they arranged for battle in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
¹¹ And Asa cried to Jehovah his God and said, Jehovah, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and he who has no strength. Help us, O Jehovah our God. For we rely on you and in your name we come against this multitude. O Jehovah, you are our God. Do not let man prevail against you.
¹² So Jehovah killed* the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah. And the Ethiopians fled. ¹³ And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. And there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves. For they were destroyed before Jehovah and before his army. And they carried away very much booty.

¹ And it happened after this, that the sons of Moab and the sons of Ammon and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. ² Then there came some who told Jehoshaphat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea from Syria. And behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (what is En-gedi).
³ And Jehoshaphat was afraid and set himself to seek for Jehovah. And he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. ⁴ And Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help from Jehovah, even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek Jehovah.
⁵ And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of Jehovah before the new court. ⁶ And he said, O Jehovah, the God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? And are you not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? And in your hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.
⁷ Did you not, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend everlasting? ⁸ And they dwelt in it and have built for you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying, ⁹ If evil comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you, (for your name is in this house,) and cry out to you in our affliction and you will hear and save.
¹⁰ And now, behold, the sons of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir (whom you would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them and did not destroy them), ¹¹ behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. ¹² O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. Neither do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.
¹³ And all Judah stood before Jehovah, with their little ones, their wives and their sons.
¹⁴ Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of Jehovah in the midst of the assembly.
¹⁵ And he said, Listen, all Judah and you* inhabitants of Jerusalem and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus Jehovah says to you*, Do not fear, neither be dismayed because of this great multitude. For the battle is not yours*, but God's. ¹⁶ Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they come up by the Ascent of Ziz. And you* will find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
¹⁷ You* will not need to fight in this battle. Set yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of Jehovah with you*, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear, nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for Jehovah is with you*.
¹⁸ And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground. And all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Jehovah, worshiping Jehovah. ¹⁹ And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites and of the sons of the Korahites, stood up to praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, with an exceedingly loud voice.
²⁰ And they rose early in the morning and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa. And as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah and you* inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in Jehovah your* God, so you* will be established. Believe his prophets, so you* will prosper.
²¹ And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who should sing to Jehovah and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army and say, Give thanks to Jehovah. For his loving kindness is everlasting. ²² And when they began to sing and to praise, Jehovah set an ambush against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir who came against Judah and they were struck. ²³ For the sons of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, to kill* and destroy them utterly. And when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another of themselves.
²⁴ And when Judah came to the watch-tower of the wilderness, they looked upon the multitude. And behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth and there were none who escaped.
²⁵ And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies and desirable jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away. And they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much.
²⁶ And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Beracah, for there they praised Jehovah. Therefore the name of that place was called The valley of Beracah to this day. ²⁷ Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy. For Jehovah had made them to rejoice over their enemies. ²⁸ And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets to the house of Jehovah.
²⁹ And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that Jehovah fought against the enemies of Israel. ³⁰ So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet. For his God gave him rest all around.

²¹ And Jehovah sent a messenger who cut off all the mighty men of valor and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, those who came out from his own guts killed him there with the sword.

¹ We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the days of long-ago. ² You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted them. You afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad.
³ Because they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm and the light of your countenance, because you were favorable to them.
⁴ You are my King, O God. Command deliverance for Jacob.

⁸ Come, behold the works of Jehovah, what desolations he has made in the earth. ⁹ He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariots in the fire.
¹⁰ Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth. ¹¹ Jehovah of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

⁴ Because behold, the kings assembled themselves. They passed by together.
⁵ They saw it, then were they amazed. They were dismayed, they hastened away. ⁶ Trembling took hold of them there, pain, as of a woman in travail.
⁷ You break the ships of Tarshish with the east wind. ⁸ As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God, God will establish it everlasting. Selah.

⁵ Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth, ⁶ O you* seed of Abraham his servant, you* sons of Jacob, his chosen. ⁷ He is Jehovah our God. His judgments are in all the earth.
⁸ He has remembered his covenant everlasting, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations, ⁹ which he made with Abraham and his oath to Isaac, ¹⁰ and confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute, to Israel for an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your* inheritance, ¹² when they were but a few men in number, yes, very few and travelers in it.
¹³ And they went about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. ¹⁴ He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes, ¹⁵ saying, Touch not my anointed men and do my prophets no harm.
¹⁶ And he called for a famine upon the land. He broke the whole staff of bread. ¹⁷ He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a servant.
¹⁸ They hurt his feet with fetters. He was placed in iron. ¹⁹ Until the time that his word happened, the word of Jehovah tried him.
²⁰ The king sent and released him, even the ruler of peoples and let him go free. ²¹ He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his substance, ²² to bind his rulers at his pleasure and teach his elders wisdom.
²³ Israel also came into Egypt and Jacob traveled in the land of Ham.
²⁴ And he increased his people greatly and made them stronger than their adversaries. ²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants.
²⁶ He sent Moses his servant and Aaron whom he had chosen. ²⁷ They set among them his signs and wonders in the land of Ham.
²⁸ He sent darkness and made it dark. And they rebelled against his words.
²⁹ He turned their waters into blood and killed their fish. ³⁰ Their land swarmed with frogs in the chambers of their kings.
³¹ He spoke and there came swarms of flies and lice in all their borders.
³² He gave them hail for rain and flaming fire in their land. ³³ He also killed* their vines and their fig trees and broke the trees of their borders.
³⁴ He spoke and the locust came and the grasshopper and that without number, ³⁵ and ate up every herb in their land and ate up the fruit of their ground. ³⁶ He also killed* all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.
³⁷ And he brought them forth with silver and gold and there was not a feeble soul among his tribes. ³⁸ Egypt was glad when they departed, because the fear of them had fallen upon them.
³⁹ He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night. ⁴⁰ They asked and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
⁴¹ He opened the rock and waters gushed out. They ran in the dry places like a river.
⁴² Because he remembered his holy word and Abraham his servant. ⁴³ And he brought out his people with joy and his chosen with singing.
⁴⁴ And he gave them the lands of the nations and they took the labor of the peoples in possession, ⁴⁵ that they might keep his statutes and observe his laws. Praise Jehovah.

¹⁰ to him who killed* Egypt in their firstborn, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹¹ and brought out Israel from among them, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹² with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹³ to him who divided the Red Sea apart, because loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁴ and made Israel to pass through the midst of it, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁵ but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁶ to him who led his people through the wilderness, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁷ to him who killed* great kings, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁸ and killed famous kings, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorites, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²⁰ and Og king of Bashan, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²¹ and gave their land for a heritage, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²² even a heritage to Israel his servant, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²³ who remembered us in our low estate, for his loving kindness is everlasting,
²⁴ and has delivered us from our adversaries, because his loving kindness is everlasting,
²⁵ who gives food to all flesh, because his loving kindness is everlasting.
²⁶ O give thanks to the God of heaven, because his loving kindness is everlasting.

¹ Behold, Jehovah's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, nor his ear heavy, that it cannot hear. ² But your* iniquities have separated between you* and your* God and your* sins have hid his face from you* so that he will not hear.

¹⁷ Ah lord Jehovah! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for you,

²⁴ Behold, the mounds. They have come to the city to take it. And the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword and of the famine and of the pestilence. And what you have spoken has happen, and behold, you see it.

⁷ Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel, Thus you* will say to the king of Judah, who sent you* to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which has come out to help you*, will return to Egypt into their own land.

¹⁴ Then Zedekiah the king sent and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of Jehovah. And the king said to Jeremiah, I will ask you a thing; hide nothing from me.
¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me. ¹⁶ So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As Jehovah lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, nor will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.
¹⁷ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then your soul will live and this city will not be burned with fire and you will live and your house.
¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire and you will not escape out of their hand.
¹⁹ And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand and they abuse me. ²⁰ But Jeremiah said, They will not deliver you. I beseech you, obey, the voice of Jehovah, in what I speak to you, so it will be well with you and your soul will live.
²¹ But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that Jehovah has shown me: ²² Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house will be brought out to the king of Babylon's rulers. And those women will say, Your familiar friends have set upon you and have prevailed over you. Since your feet are sunk in the mud, they have turned back away.
²³ And they will bring out all your wives and your sons to the Chaldeans. And you will not escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon. And you will cause this city to be burned with fire.
²⁴ Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words and you will not die. ²⁵ But if the rulers hear that I have talked with you and they come to you and say to you, Declare to us now what you have said to the king, hide it not from us and we will not put you to death, also what the king said to you, ²⁶ then you will say to them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house to die there.
²⁷ Then all the rulers came to Jeremiah and asked him. And he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him, for the matter was not perceived.

¹ And it happened when Jerusalem was taken, in the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and besieged it. ² In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city.

⁴ Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard you*. Behold, I will pray to Jehovah your* God according to your* words and it will happen that whatever thing Jehovah will answer you*, I will declare it to you*. I will keep nothing back from you*.
⁵ Then they said to Jeremiah, Jehovah be a true and faithful witness among us, if we do not according to all the word with which Jehovah your God will send you to us. ⁶ Whether it is good, or whether it is evil, we will obey the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of Jehovah our God.

³ For it happened through the anger of Jehovah, in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
⁴ And it happened in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army against Jerusalem and encamped against it. And they built forts against it all around. ⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.

³ Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face. Should I be inquired of at all by them?
⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Every man of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I Jehovah will answer him in it according to the multitude of his idols, ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.
⁶ Therefore say to the house of Israel, The lord Jehovah says thus: Return and turn yourselves from your* idols and turn away your* faces from all your* abominations.
⁷ For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who journey in Israel, that separates himself from me and takes his idols into his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me, I Jehovah will answer him by myself.

¹ And it happened in the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, that certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Jehovah and sat before me. ² And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel and say to them, The lord Jehovah says thus: Is it to inquire of me that you* have come? As I live, says the lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you*.

⁵ And now I will tell you* what I will do to my vineyard. I will take away the hedge of it and it will be eaten up. I will break down the wall of it and it will be trodden down.

⁴ They will only bow down under the prisoners and will fall under the slain.
For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people! The noise of a tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! Jehovah of hosts is mustering the army for the battle.

⁵ And he will bring Zedekiah to Babylon and there he will be until I visit him, says Jehovah. Though you* fight with the Chaldeans, you* will not prosper?

⁵ while men come to fight with the Chaldeans and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in my anger and in my wrath and for all whose wickedness I have hid my face from this city:

⁸ And the Chaldeans will come again and fight against this city and they will take it and burn it with fire.
⁹ Jehovah says thus: Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans will surely depart from us. For they will not depart. ¹⁰ For though you* had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you* and there remained but wounded men among them, yes they would rise up every man in his tent and burn this city with fire.

² Jehovah says thus: He who abides in this city will die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans will live and his life will be to him for a prey and he will live. ³ Jehovah says thus: This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon and he will take it.

¹⁷ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then your soul will live and this city will not be burned with fire and you will live and your house.
¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire and you will not escape out of their hand.

³ And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the middle gate, that is, Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, Rab-saris, Nergal-sharezer, Rab-mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.

¹⁸ The pots also and the shovels and the snuffers and the basins and the spoons and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away.

⁵ The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. And he has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.

⁷ The Lord has cast off his altar. He has spurned his sanctuary. He has given up the walls of her palaces into the hand of the enemy. They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

³⁷ therefore, behold, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure and all those whom you have loved, with all those whom you have hated, I will even gather them against you on every side. And I will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.
³⁸ And I will judge you, as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged. And I will bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy. ³⁹ I will also give you into their hand and they will throw down your vaulted place and break down your lofty places. And they will strip you of your clothes and take your fair jewels and they will leave you naked and bare.
⁴⁰ They will also bring up a company against you and they will stone you with stones and thrust you through with their swords. ⁴¹ And they will burn your houses with fire and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women. And I will cause you to cease from playing the prostitute and you will also give no wage any more.

¹² Though they bring up their sons, yet I will bereave them, so that not a man will be left. Yes, woe also to them when I depart from them!

² For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. And the city will be taken and the houses rifled and the women ravished and half of the city will go forth into captivity. And the residue of the people will not be cut off from the city.

⁷ And that king, having heard it, was angry, and he having sent his armies, destroyed those murderers and incinerated their city.

⁶ Therefore say to the sons of Israel, I am Jehovah. And I will bring you* out from under the burdens of the Egyptians and I will rid you* out of their bondage and I will redeem you* with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

¹⁵ For now I have put forth my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence,
and you have been cut off from the earth.

²³ Take heed to yourselves, lest you* forget the covenant of Jehovah your* God, which he made with you* and make you* a graven image in the form of anything which Jehovah your God has forbidden you.

³⁴ Or has God ever tried to go and take for him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs and by wonders and by war and by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your* God did for you* in Egypt before your* eyes?

²⁵ Therefore the anger of Jehovah is kindled against his people and he has stretched forth his hand against them and has struck them. And the mountains tremble and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets.

¹² the Syrians in front and the Philistines behind and they will devour Israel with open mouth.

¹⁷ Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, nor will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows. For everyone is profane and an evildoer and every mouth does senselessness.

²¹ Manasseh, Ephraim and Ephraim, Manasseh and together they will be against Judah.
For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

¹⁰ But they rebelled and grieved his holy Spirit. Therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

¹² And their houses will be turned to others, their fields and their wives together. For I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, says Jehovah.

³⁷ Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries where I have driven them in my anger and in my wrath and in great indignation. And I will bring them again to this place and I will cause them to dwell safely.

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.
⁵ The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. And he has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah.

³³ As I live, says the lord Jehovah, surely with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, I will be king over you*.
³⁴ And I will bring you* out from the peoples and will gather you* out of the countries in which you* are scattered, with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out,

⁵ The mountains quake at him and the hills melt and the earth is upheaved at his presence. Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.
⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken apart by him.

⁷ And Jehovah said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the ground, from man to beast, to creeping things and birds of the heavens, because I regret that I have made them.

¹¹ Then I said, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until cities be waste without inhabitant and houses without man and the land become utterly waste,

¹ Behold, Jehovah makes the earth empty and makes it waste and turns it upside down and scatters abroad the inhabitants of it. ² And it will be, as with the people, so with the priest, as with the servant, so with his master, as with the maid, so with her mistress, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the creditor, so with the debtor, as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. ³ The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste, for Jehovah has spoken this word. ⁴ The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.
⁵ The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.
⁶ Therefore the curse has devoured the earth and those who dwell in it are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned and few men left.

²⁰ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out upon this place, upon man and upon beast and upon the trees of the field and upon the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and will not be quenched.

³ Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter and prepare them for the day of slaughter. ⁴ How long will the land mourn and the herbs of whole country wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it, the beasts are consumed and the birds, because they said, He will not see our latter end.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword and by the famine and by the pestilence.

¹² Jehovah of hosts says thus: Yet again there will be in this place, which is waste, without man and without beast and in all the cities of it, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

¹⁷ Therefore Jehovah says thus: You* have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother and every man to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you* a liberty, says Jehovah–to the sword, to the pestilence and to the famine. And I will make you* to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

²⁹ And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you will say, Jehovah says thus: You have burned this roll, saying, Why have you written in it, saying, The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land and will cause to cease from there man and beast?

²² Now therefore know certainly that you* will die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, in the place where you* desire to go to journey there.

¹² A third part of you will die with the pestilence and they will be consumed with famine in the midst of you and a third part will fall by the sword all around you and a third part I will scatter to all the winds and will draw out a sword after them.
¹³ Thus my anger will be accomplished and I will cause my wrath toward them to rest and I will be comforted. And they will know that I, Jehovah, have spoken in my zeal, when I have accomplished my wrath upon them.

¹⁵ The sword is outside and the pestilence and the famine inside. He who is in the field will die with the sword and he who is in the city, famine and pestilence will devour him.

¹⁶ But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine and from the pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they come.
And they will know that I am Jehovah.

¹³ Son of man, when a land sins against me by committing a trespass and I stretch out my hand upon it and break the staff of the bread of it and send famine upon it and cut off from it man and beast,

¹⁷ Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Sword, go through the land, so that I cut off from it man and beast,

¹⁹ Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast,

²¹ For thus says the lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four severe judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword and the famine and the evil beasts and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

²⁷ Thus you will say to them. The lord Jehovah says thus: As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword and he who is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence.

²⁹ Then they will know that I am Jehovah when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they have committed.

³ Therefore the land will mourn and everyone who dwells in it will languish with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens. Yes, the fishes of the sea will also be taken away.

¹² Therefore for your* sake Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

³ I will consume man and beast. I will consume the birds of the heavens and the fishes of the sea and the stumbling blocks with the wicked. And I will cut off man from the face of the ground, says Jehovah.

²⁴ And they will be falling by the edge of the sword and will be captured into all the nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles should be fulfilled.

⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, that will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young,

⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king and overtook him in the plains of Jericho. And all his army was scattered from him.
⁶ Then they took the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah. And they gave judgment upon him. ⁷ And they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and put out the eyes of Zedekiah and bound him in fetters and carried him to Babylon.

¹⁷ Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed. He gave them all into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small and the treasures of the house of Jehovah and the treasures of the king and of his rulers, all these he brought to Babylon.
¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all the palaces of it with fire and destroyed all the good vessels of it.
²⁰ And those who had escaped from the sword he carried away to Babylon and they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia,

¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not regard silver and as for gold, they will not delight in it. ¹⁸ And their bows will dash the young men in pieces. And they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye will not spare children.

¹¹ When the limbs of it are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for it is a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion upon them and he who formed them will show them no favor.

⁶ I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. you have laid your yoke very heavily upon the aged.

¹⁴ And I will smash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says Jehovah. I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

⁸ And as the bad figs, which cannot be eaten they are so bad, surely Jehovah says thus: So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah and his rulers and the residue of Jerusalem, who remain in this land and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.
⁹ I will even give them up to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them. ¹⁰ And I will send the sword, the famine and the pestilence, among them, till they are consumed from the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.

¹⁹ the rulers of Judah and the rulers of Jerusalem, the eunuchs and the priests and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf, ²⁰ I will even give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. And their dead bodies will be for food to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the earth.
²¹ And I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his rulers, into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army that has gone away from you*. ²² Behold, I will command, says Jehovah and cause them to return to this city. And they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

¹⁷ then Zedekiah the king sent and fetched him. And the king asked him secretly in his house and said, Is there any word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. He also said, You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

²¹ But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that Jehovah has shown me: ²² Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house will be brought out to the king of Babylon's rulers. ⁴ And it happened that, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls and he went out toward the Arabah.
⁵ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him.
⁶ Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes. Also the king of Babylon killed all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him in fetters to carry him to Babylon.

⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho and all his army was scattered from him.
⁹ Then they took the king and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath and he gave judgment upon him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes. He also killed all the rulers of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ And he put out the eyes of Zedekiah. And the king of Babylon bound him in fetters and carried him to Babylon and put him in prison till the day of his death.

²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest and Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold. ²⁵ And from the city he took an officer who was set over the men of war and seven men of those who saw the king's face, who were found in the city and the scribe of the captain of the army who mustered the people of the land and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the midst of the city.
²⁶ And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon killed* them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.

⁹ And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will bring upon you according to your ways. And your abominations will be in the midst of you.
And you* will know that I, Jehovah, do kill*.

¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in wrath. My eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. And though they cry in my ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them.

⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, Go through the city after him and kill*. Do not let your* eye spare, nor have you* pity. ⁶ Kill utterly the old man, the young man and the virgin and little sons and women, but do not come near any man upon whom is the mark. And begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the old men who were before the house.

¹⁰ And as for me also, my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity, but I will bring their way upon their head.

¹² And the ruler who is among them will bear upon his shoulder in the dark and will go forth. They will dig through the wall to carry out by it. He will cover his face, because he will not see the land with his eyes.
¹³ I will also spread my net upon him and he will be taken in my snare. And I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans, yet he will not see it, though he will die there.
¹⁴ And I will scatter toward every wind all who are all around him to help him and all his groups. And I will draw out the sword after them.
¹⁵ And they will know that I am Jehovah, when I will disperse them among the nations and scatter them through the countries.
¹⁶ But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine and from the pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they come.
And they will know that I am Jehovah.

²⁰ And I will spread my net upon him and he will be taken in my snare. And I will bring him to Babylon and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me. ²¹ And all his fugitives in all his groups will fall by the sword and those who remain will be scattered toward every wind.
And you* will know that I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

²⁵ And you, O deadly wounded wicked man, the ruler of Israel, whose day has come, in the time of the iniquity of the end, ²⁶ thus says the lord Jehovah: Remove the miter and take off the crown. This will be no more the same. Exalt what is low and humble what is high.

⁶ For behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, who march through the breadth of the earth to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs.
⁷ They are fearful and dreadful. Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. ⁸ Their horses also are swifter than leopards and are more fierce than the evening wolves. And their horsemen press proudly on. Yes, their horsemen come from far. They fly as an eagle that hastens to devour. ⁹ They come all of them for violence. The set of their faces is forwards and they gather captives as the sand.
¹⁰ Yes, he scoffs at kings and rulers are a mocking to him. He derides every stronghold, for he heaps up dust and takes it.

²⁶ Behold, I set before you* this day a blessing and a curse:

¹⁵ See, I have set before you this day life and good and death and evil,

¹⁹ I call heaven and earth to witness against you* this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed,

¹⁹ If you* are willing and obedient, you* will eat the good of the land. ²⁰ But if you* refuse and rebel, you* will be devoured with the sword, for the mouth of Jehovah has spoken it.

⁷ And afterward, says Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life and he will kill* them with the edge of the sword. He will not spare them, nor have pity, nor have mercy.

¹³ Why will you* die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, as Jehovah has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

² Jehovah says thus: He who abides in this city will die by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence, but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans will live and his life will be to him for a prey and he will live.

¹⁷ Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then your soul will live and this city will not be burned with fire and you will live and your house.
¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire and you will not escape out of their hand.
¹⁹ And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand and they abuse me. ²⁰ But Jeremiah said, They will not deliver you. I beseech you, obey, the voice of Jehovah, in what I speak to you, so it will be well with you and your soul will live.

¹⁸ For I will surely save you and you will not fall by the sword, but your life will be for a prey to you, because you have put your trust in me, says Jehovah.

⁵ And do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, says Jehovah, but your life I will give to you for a prey in all places where you go.

¹⁰ And whatever man there is of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that journey among them, who eats any manner of blood, I will set my face against that soul who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.

³ I also will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given of his seed to Molech, to defile my sanctuary and to profane my holy name. ⁴ And if the people at the land do at all hide their eyes from that man, when he gives of his seed to Molech and do not put him to death, ⁵ then I will set my face against that man and against his family and will cut him off and all who play the prostitute after him, to play the prostitute with Molech, from among their people.

¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.

¹⁹ And they burnt the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burnt all the palaces of it with fire and destroyed all the good vessels of it.

¹⁶ (The face of Jehovah is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.)

²⁷ But if you* will not listen to me to sanctify the Sabbath day and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in the gates of it and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and it will not be quenched.

⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

²⁸ Therefore Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he will take it. ²⁹ And the Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire and burn it, with the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.
³⁰ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have done only what was evil in my sight from their youth. For the sons of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Jehovah.
³¹ For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, that I should remove it from before my face,

² Jehovah says thus, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him, Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon and he will burn it with fire.

²² Behold, I will command, says Jehovah and cause them to return to this city. And they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

³ Jehovah says thus: This city will surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon and he will take it.

¹⁸ But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's rulers, then this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans and they will burn it with fire and you will not escape out of their hand.

²³ And they will bring out all your wives and your sons to the Chaldeans. And you will not escape out of their hand, but will be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon. And you will cause this city to be burned with fire.

⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the houses of the people, with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

¹¹ Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you* for evil, even to cut off all Judah.

²⁷ Behold, I watch over them for evil and not for good. And all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there is an end of them.

¹³ And he burned the house of Jehovah and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem. Even every great house, he burned with fire.

⁷ And I will set my face against them. They will go forth from the fire, but the fire will devour them.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah when I set my face against them.

⁴ And though they go into captivity before their enemies, from there I will command the sword and it will kill them. And I will set my eyes upon them for evil and not for good.

⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your* fathers? And they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.

¹⁸ You say to the king and to the queen mother: Humble yourselves. Sit down, for your* coronets have come down, even the crown of your* glory.

²⁰ And say to them, Hear the word of Jehovah, you* kings of Judah and all Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter in by these gates.

¹ And I said, Hear, I beseech you*, you* heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel. Is it not for you* to know justice?

¹³ And it happened on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people and the people stood about Moses from the morning to the evening.

²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you* in wrath and I also will discipline you* seven times for your* sins.

²² For a fire is kindled in my anger and burns to the lowest Sheol and devours the earth with its increase and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

¹⁵ And David reigned over all Israel. And David executed justice and righteousness to all his people.

¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹ Give the king your judgments, O God and your righteousness to the king's son. ² He will judge your people with righteousness and your poor with justice.
³ The mountains will bring peace to the people and the hills, in righteousness. ⁴ He will judge the poor of the people.
He will save the sons of the needy and will break in pieces the oppressor.

¹² Because he will deliver a needy man when he cries and a poor man, who has no helper. ¹³ He will have pity on a poor and needy man and he will save the souls of the needy.
¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence. And their blood will be precious in his sight,

² How long will you* judge unjustly and respect the persons of the wicked? Selah.
³ Judge the poor man and the orphan. Do justice to the afflicted and destitute man. ⁴ Rescue the poor and needy man. Deliver him from the hand of the wicked man.

⁸ Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off all the workers of wickedness from the city of Jehovah.

¹¹ Deliver those who are carried away to death and hold back those who are slipping away to be slain. ¹² If you say, Behold, we did not know this, Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it? And he who keeps your soul, does he not know it? And will not he render to every man according to his work?

⁸ Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all such as are left desolate. ⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously and minister justice to the poor and needy.

¹⁶ Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child and your rulers feast in the morning! ¹⁷ You are fortunate, O land, when your king is the son of noble men and your rulers feast in due season, for strength and not for drunkenness!

¹⁷ Learn to do good. Seek justice, make the oppressed fortunate, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

³¹ And the strong man will be as flax and his work as a spark. And they will both burn together and none will quench them.

² And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is allied with Ephraim. And his heart trembled and the heart of his people, as the trees of the forest tremble with the wind.

¹³ And he said, Hear now, O house of David. Is it a small thing for you* to weary men, that you* will weary my God also?

³ Give counsel, execute justice, make your shade as the night in the midst of the noonday. Hide the outcasts. Do not betray the fugitive. ⁴ Let my outcasts dwell with you. As for Moab, be a covert to him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nothing. Destruction ceases. The oppressors are consumed out of the land.
⁵ And a throne will be established in loving kindness and he will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging and seeking justice and swift to do righteousness.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek Jehovah! ² Yet he also is wise and will bring evil and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the help of those who work wickedness.

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to Jehovah and take away the foreskins of your* heart, you* men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest my wrath go forth like fire and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your* practices.

¹⁴ Therefore Jehovah says thus, the God of hosts: Because you* speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire and this people wood and it will devour them.

²⁸ They have grown fat. They shine. Yes, they overflow in deeds of wickedness. They do not plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper. And they do not judge the right of the needy.

⁴ And you, even of yourself, will discontinue from your heritage that I gave you and I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land which you do not know. For you* have kindled a fire in my anger which will burn everlasting.

⁵ And I myself will fight against you* with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and in wrath and in great indignation.

² and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, O king of Judah, who sits upon the throne of David, you and your servants and your people who enter in by these gates.
³ Jehovah says thus: Execute you* justice and righteousness. And deliver he who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. And do no wrong. Do no violence to the traveler, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you strive to excel in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy man, then it was well. Was not this to know me? says Jehovah. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness and for shedding innocent blood and for oppression and for violence, to do it.

⁵ Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will raise to David a righteous Branch and he will reign as king and deal wisely and will execute justice and righteousness in the land.

¹⁹ Behold, the tempest of Jehovah, wrath, has gone forth, yes, a whirling tempest. It will burst upon the head of the wicked.

⁷ It may be they will present their supplication before Jehovah and will return each one from his evil way, for great is the anger and the wrath that Jehovah has pronounced against this people.

³ In fierce anger he has cut off all the horn of Israel. He has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy. And he has burned up Jacob like a flaming fire which devours all around. ⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion.

¹¹ Jehovah has accomplished his wrath. He has poured out his fierce anger and he has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured the foundations of it.

⁴⁷ And say to the forest of the South, Hear the word of Jehovah. The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will kindle a fire in you and it will devour every green tree in you and every dry tree. The flaming flame will not be quenched and all faces from the south to the north will be burnt by it. ⁴⁸ And all flesh will see that I, Jehovah, have kindled it. It will not be quenched.

¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me. All of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace. They are the dross of silver.
¹⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you* into the midst of Jerusalem ²⁰ as they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it. So I will gather you* in my anger and in my wrath and I will lay you* there and melt you*. ²¹ Yes, I will gather you* and blow upon you* with the fire of my wrath and you* will be melted in the midst of it.
²² As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so you* will be melted in the midst of it. And you* will know that I, Jehovah, have poured out my wrath upon you*.

³¹ Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have brought their own way upon their heads, says the lord Jehovah.

⁸ That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance, I have set her blood upon the bare rock, that it should not be covered.
⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Woe to the bloody city! I also will make the pile great. ¹⁰ Heap on the wood; make the fire hot. Boil the flesh well and make the broth thick. And let the bones be burned. ¹¹ Then set it empty upon the coals of it, that it may be hot and the brass of it may burn and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.
¹² She has wearied herself with toil, yet her great scum does not go forth out of her, her scum by fire. ¹³ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you were not cleansed, you will not be cleansed from your filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.
¹⁴ I, Jehovah, have spoken it. It will happen and I will do it. I will not go back. I will neither spare, nor will I relent. According to your ways and according to your practices, they will judge you, says the lord Jehovah.

⁶ Who can stand before his indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is poured out like fire and the rocks are broken apart by him.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah's wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy. For he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

⁵ Jehovah in the midst of her is righteous. He will not do unrighteousness. Every morning he brings his justice to light. He does not fail, but the unjust man knows no shame.

⁹ Thus Jehovah of hosts has spoken, saying, Execute true justice and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother. ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the traveler, nor the poor man. And let none of you* devise evil against his brother in your* heart.
¹¹ But they refused to listen and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.

⁴³ And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life crippled, rather than having your two hands, and to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁴ where a maggot of them is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁵ And if your foot offends you, cut it off. It is good for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet, and to be cast into hell, into the unquenchable fire, ⁴⁶ where a maggot is not dead and the fire is not quenched. ⁴⁷ And if your eye offends you, cast it out. It is good for you to enter into the kingdom of God one-eyed, rather than having two eyes, and to be cast into the hell of fire, ⁴⁸ where a maggot of them is not dying and the fire is not quenched.

⁶⁹ and has lifted up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his young-servant David,

³ Now a widow was in that city, and she was coming often to him, saying, Avenge me of my opponent. ⁴ And he did not wish to at that time, but after these things, he said in himself, Even if I do not fear God, and do not revere man; ⁵ yet because this widow is harassing me, I will avenge her, in order that she may not pester me, coming often for an end of her opponent.

⁴ for he is a servant of God to you for what is the good thing. But if you practice what is the evil thing, be afraid; for he is not wearing the sword vainly; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one who is practicing the evil thing.

⁸ And you will tell your son in that day, saying, It is because of what Jehovah did for me when I came forth out of Egypt.

²⁰ And they took their journey from Succoth and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.

⁶ And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, Unless you take away the blind and the lame, you will not come in here, thinking, David cannot come in here. ⁷ Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

² As the mountains are all around Jerusalem, so Jehovah is all around his people from this time forth and until forever.

¹ The burden of the valley of vision. What troubles you now, that you have entirely gone up to the housetops?

⁴ Do not trust in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these.

³⁰ Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, says Jehovah, who steal my words each one from his neighbor. ³¹ Behold, I am against the prophets, says Jehovah, who use their tongues and say, He says. ³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, says Jehovah and tell them. And make my people go-astray by their lies and by their vain boasting. Yet I sent them not, nor commanded them, neither do they profit this people at all, says Jehovah.

⁴ Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley? O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying, Who will come to me?
⁵ Behold, I will bring a fear upon you, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, from all who are all around you. And you* will be driven out every man straight forth and there will be none to gather together the fugitives.

¹⁶ As for your formidableness, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwells in the clefts of the rock, who holds the height of the hill. Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says Jehovah.

³¹ Behold, I am against you, O you proud one, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, for your day has come, the time that I will visit you.

²⁵ Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says Jehovah, which destroys all the earth. And I will stretch out my hand upon you and roll you down from the rocks and will make you a burnt mountain.

¹² The kings of the earth did not believe, nor all the inhabitants of the world, that the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

⁸ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Because you* have spoken falsehood and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you*, says the lord Jehovah.

³ The pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, Who will bring me down to the ground? ⁴ Though you mount on high as the eagle and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there, says Jehovah.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices.

¹⁰ Say you* of the righteous, that it is well, for they will eat the fruit of their practices. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It is ill with him, for what his hands have done will be done to him.

¹² Therefore it will happen, that, when the Lord has performed his whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of his high looks.

¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. And it will be as when a standard-bearer faints. ¹⁹ And the remnant of the trees of his forest will be few, so that a child may write them.

²¹ And it will happen in that day, that Jehovah will punish the host of the high ones on high and the kings of the earth upon the earth.

¹⁰ For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken like the wilderness. There the calf will feed and there he will lie down and consume the branches of it. ¹¹ When the limbs of it are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for it is a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion upon them and he who formed them will show them no favor.

²⁴ You have defied the Lord by your servants and have said, I have come up to the height of the mountains with the multitude of my chariots, to the innermost parts of Lebanon. And I will cut down the tall cedars of it and the choice fir trees of it and I will enter into its farthest height, the forest of its fruitful field.

²⁹ The bellows blow fiercely, the lead is consumed of the fire. In vain do they go on refining, for the wicked are not plucked away.

²⁵ Behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will punish all those who are circumcised in their uncircumcision:

²² Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus: Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine,

¹⁰ I, Jehovah, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his practices.

⁷ And I will prepare destroyers against you, each one with his weapons and they will cut down your choice cedars and cast them into the fire.

¹⁹ great in counsel and mighty in work, whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his practices,

⁴⁶ Son of man, set your face toward the south and drop your word toward the south and prophesy against the forest of the field in the South.

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars.

⁷ Do not be misled. God is not ridiculed; for whatever a man sows, he will also be reaping this thing. ⁸ Because he who is sowing to his own flesh will be reaping corruption from his flesh, but he who is sowing to the Spirit will be reaping everlasting life from the Spirit.
