¹ Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said, ² How long will you speak these things? And how long will the words of your mouth be like a mighty wind? ³ Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? ⁴ If your sons have sinned against him and he has delivered them into the hand of their transgression, ⁵ if you would seek diligently to God and make your supplication to the Almighty, ⁶ if you were pure and upright, surely now he would awake for you and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous. ⁷ And though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase. ⁸ Because I beseech you, inquire of the former age and apply yourself to what their fathers have searched out ⁹ (for we are but of yesterday and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow). ¹⁰ Shall they not teach you and tell you and utter words out of their heart?
¹¹ Can the rush grow up without mud? Can a reed grow without water? ¹² While it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, it withers before any other herb. ¹³ So are the paths of all who forget God. And the hope of the profane man will perish, ¹⁴ whose confidence will break apart and whose trust is a spider's web.
¹⁵ He will lean upon his house, but it will not stand. He will hold fast to it, but it will not endure. ¹⁶ He is green before the sun and his offshoots go forth over his garden. ¹⁷ His roots are wrapped around the stone heap. He beholds the place of stones. ¹⁸ If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, I have not seen you. ¹⁹ Behold, this is the joy of his way and out of the earth others will spring.
²⁰ Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, nor will he uphold the evildoers. ²¹ He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouting. ²² Those who hate you will be clothed with shame and the tent of the wicked will be no more.

¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that came upon him, they came each one from his own place–Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite–and they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and to comfort him.

³ And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, Jehovah says thus, the God of the Hebrews, How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

⁷ And Pharaoh's servants said to him, How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Jehovah their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?

¹¹ And he said, Go forth and stand upon the mountain before Jehovah. And behold, Jehovah passed by and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before Jehovah, but Jehovah was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but Jehovah was not in the earthquake.

⁹ Even that it would please God to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!

²⁶ Do you* think to reprove words, seeing that the speeches of a man who is desperate are as wind?

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

² Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your boastings make men hold their peace? And when you mock, will no man make you ashamed?

² Should a wise man make answer with vain knowledge and fill himself with the east wind?

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

² How long will you* hunt for words? Consider and afterwards we will speak.

² How long will you* distress my soul and break me in pieces with words? ³ These ten times you* have reproached me. You* are not ashamed that you* deal hardly with me.

²² How long, you* simple ones, will you* love simplicity? And scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?

²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing, to kill a righteous man with a wicked man, that so the righteous man should be as the wicked man. Far be it from you. Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

⁴ The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice, a God of faithfulness and without unrighteousness, just and right is he.

⁷ Now therefore let the fear of Jehovah be upon you*. Take heed and do it. For there is no unrighteousness with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

¹⁷ Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his maker?

² Of a truth I know that it is so. But how can man be just with God?

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands and shine upon the counsel of the wicked?

⁷ Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard. I cry for help, but there is no justice.

¹⁵ What is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

²⁰ Let his own eyes see his destruction and let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

⁵ For Job has said, I am righteous and God has taken away my right.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me, you* men of understanding. Far be it from me to sin before the Lord and pervert righteousness before the Almighty. ¹¹ For the work of a man he will render to him and cause every man to find according to his ways. ¹² Yes, certainly God will not do wrong. Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

¹⁷ Behold he who hates lawlessness and who destroys evil men, who is forever righteousness, ¹⁸ who says to a king, You are worthless, to ranking men, You * are wicked, ¹⁹ who does not respect the persons of rulers, nor regards the rich more than the poor. For they all are the work of his hands.

¹³ Surely God will not hear an empty cry, nor will the Almighty regard it.

² Shall he who quibbles contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.

⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

¹⁴ Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Loving kindness and truth go before your face.

⁴ The king’s strength also loves justice. You establish uprightness. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

²⁵ Yet you* say, The way of the Lord is not equitable. Hear now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equitable? Are not your* ways inequitable?

¹⁷ Yet the sons of your people say, The way of the Lord is not equitable. But as for them, their way is not equitable.

²⁰ Yet you* say, The way of the Lord is not equitable. O house of Israel, I will judge you* everyone according to his ways.

¹⁴ Therefore Jehovah has watched over the evil and brought it upon us, for Jehovah our God is righteous in all his works which he does and we have not obeyed his voice.

⁵ But you store up wrath for yourself according to your hardness and unrepentant heart in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

⁴ Let it not happen! Now, let God become true, but everyone a liar; just-as it has been written, ‘ That you should be made righteous in your words and may overcome when you are judged.’ ⁵ For if our unrighteousness is establishing the righteousness of God, what will we say? The God who brings upon us wrath is not unrighteous, is he? (I speak according to the manner of man.) ⁶ Let it not happen! Otherwise how will God judge the world?

³ And they are singing the song of Moses the bondservant of God and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty; your ways are righteous and true, the King of the nations.

⁷ And I heard from the altar saying, Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, your judgments are true and righteous.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and great sinners against Jehovah.

¹³ For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them has been great before Jehovah. And Jehovah has sent us to destroy it.
¹⁴ And Lot went out and spoke to his sons in-law, who married his daughters and said, Up, you* get out of this place, because Jehovah will destroy the city. But he seemed as a man jesting, to his sons-in-law.
¹⁵ And when the morning arose, then the messengers hurried Lot, saying, Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are found here, lest you are consumed in the iniquity of the city. ¹⁶ But he lingered. And the men laid hold upon his hand and upon the hand of his wife and upon the hand of his two daughters, because Jehovah was being merciful to him and they brought him forth and set him outside the city.
¹⁷ And it happened, when they had brought them outside, that he said, Escape for your life. Do not look behind you, neither will you stay in all the Plain. Escape to the mountain, lest you are consumed.
¹⁸ And Lot said to them, Oh, not so, my lord. ¹⁹ Behold now, your servant has found favor in your sight and you have magnified your loving kindness, which you have shown to me in saving my life and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me and I die. ²⁰ Behold now, this city is near to flee to and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul will live.
²¹ And he said to him, Behold, I have lifted up you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. ²² You hasten, escape there, because I cannot do anything till you have come there. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
²³ The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot came to Zoar. ²⁴ Then Jehovah rained brimstone and fire upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah, from Jehovah out of heaven. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and all the Plain and all the inhabitants of the cities and what grew upon the ground.

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their feasting were completed, that Job sent and made them holy and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and renounced God in their hearts. Thus Job did continually.

¹⁸ While he was yet speaking, there came also another and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house. ¹⁹ And behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness and killed* the four corners of the house and it fell upon the young men and they are dead and only I alone have escaped to tell you.

⁴ His sons are far from safety and they are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them,

¹⁶ His roots will be dried up beneath and above his limbs be will cut off.
¹⁷ His remembrance will perish from the earth and he will have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He will be driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He will have neither son nor son's son among his people, nor any remaining where he traveled.

¹² And when he was in distress, he besought Jehovah his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. ¹³ And he prayed to him. And he was entreated of him and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that Jehovah he was God.

⁸ But as for me, I would seek to God. And to God I would commit my cause,

¹³ If you set your heart aright and stretch out your hands toward him,

²¹ Acquaint now yourself with him and be at peace. By this good will come to you. ²² I beseech you, receive the law from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, you put away unrighteousness far from your tents. ²⁴ Then you will lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yes, the Almighty will be your treasure and precious silver to you. ²⁶ For then will you delight yourself in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God.
²⁷ You will make your prayer to him and he will hear you and you will pay your vows. ²⁸ You will also decree a thing and it will be established to you. And light will shine upon your ways.
²⁹ When they cast you down, you will say, There is lifting up and he will save the humble man. ³⁰ He will deliver even him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.

⁶ Seek Jehovah while he may be found. Call you* upon him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked man forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. And let him return to Jehovah and he will have mercy upon him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will be finding; knock and it will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who is asking, receives; and the one who is seeking, finds; and to the one who is knocking, it will be opened.

⁷ Hence, as the Holy Spirit says, ‘Today if you hear his voice, ⁸ do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, according to the day of the testing in the wilderness,

⁷ Therefore, be subject to God and stand against the devil, and he will be fleeing away from you. ⁸ Draw near to God and he will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands sinners and purify your hearts you indecisive! ⁹ Be miserable and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy be turned to gloom. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he will be exalting you.

⁸ And Jehovah said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? For there is none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil.

⁶ Is not your fear of God your confidence, the integrity of your ways your hope? ⁷ I beseech you, remember those who perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

²⁴ And you will know that your tent is in peace and you will visit your fold and will miss nothing.

¹⁷ although there is no violence in my hands and my prayer is pure.

¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us, for we do not desire the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

⁶ Arise, O Jehovah, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries and awake for me the justice you have commanded.

⁵ I hate the assembly of evildoers and will not sit with the wicked.
⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence, so I will encompass your altar, O Jehovah,

²³ Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord? Arise, cast not off forever.

⁴ They run and prepare themselves without my fault. Awake to help me and behold.
⁵ Even you, O Jehovah God of hosts, the God of Israel, arise to visit all the nations. Do not be merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood.

¹⁰ Say you* of the righteous, that it is well, for they will eat the fruit of their practices.

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Jehovah. Awake, as in the days of long-ago, the generations of everlasting. Is it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the monster?

⁸ Therefore I will that the men pray in every place, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and evil reasoning.

¹⁹ And we know in this that we are from the truth and will persuade our hearts before him; ²⁰ because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and he knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have boldness toward God; ²² and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we are keeping his commandments and are practicing the things which are pleasing in his sight.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end.

¹² So Jehovah blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. And he had fourteen thousand sheep and six thousand camels and a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand female-donkeys. ¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters.

¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

²⁰ Hear counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

¹⁰ For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven will rejoice and will see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel, the eyes of Jehovah, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

⁷ But it will be one day which is known to Jehovah, not day and not night. But it will happen, that at evening time there will be light.

¹² For who ever has, to him will be given and he will abound, but who ever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

³¹ He placed another parable before them, saying: The kingdom of the heavens is similar to a kernel of a mustard-seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; ³² which indeed is least compared to all of the other seeds, but whenever it is grown, it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so-that the birds of the heaven come and nest in its branches.

²⁰ For if, having fled away from the defilements of the world in the full knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and having been again entangled, they are succumbed in these things, the last state has become worse to them than the first.

³² For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man upon the earth and from the one end of heaven to the other, whether there has been anything as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?

⁷ Remember the days of old. Consider the years of generations to generations. Ask your father and he will show you, your elders and they will tell you.

¹² With aged men is wisdom and in length of days understanding.

¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than your father.

¹⁸ which wise men have told from their fathers and have not hid it,

⁶ And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young and you* are very old. Therefore I held back and dared not show you* my opinion.
⁷ I said, Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

¹ We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the days of long-ago.

³ which we have heard and known and our fathers have told us.
⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah and his strength and his wondrous works that he has done.

¹⁹ The living, the living, he will praise you, as I do this day. The father to the sons will make known your truth.

⁴ For as many things as were written beforehand were written beforehand for our instruction, in order that through the endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

¹¹ Now all these things are examples which were befalling to those Jews, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have arrived.

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

¹⁵ For we are strangers before you and travelers, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are as a shadow and there is no abiding.

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle and are spent without hope.

² He comes forth like a flower and is cut down. He too flees as a shadow and does not continue.

⁵ Behold, you have made my days as the width of hands and my life-time is as nothing before you. Surely every man at his best condition is altogether vanity. Selah.

⁴ Because a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past and as a watch in the night.

¹¹ My days are like a shadow that declines and I am withered like grass.

⁴ Man is like vanity. His days are as a shadow that passes away.

⁷ And you will teach them diligently to your sons and will talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

¹⁹ And you* will teach them to your* sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

⁷ But ask now the beasts and they will teach you and the birds of the heavens and they will tell you. ⁸ Or speak to the earth and it will teach you and the fishes of the sea will declare to you.

⁷ I said, Days should speak and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

⁴ One generation will laud your works to another and will declare your mighty acts.

²³ The heart of the wise instructs his mouth and adds learning to his lips.

¹⁵ The heart of a prudent man gets knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure is casting out good things and the evil man out of his evil treasure is casting out evil things.

⁴ In faith, Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice to God than Cain, through which he was witnessed to be righteous, God testifying on the basis of his gifts and through it he still speaks, although being dead.

¹ Therefore, since we also have so-great a cloud of witnesses encompassing us, let us run through endurance the contest laying before us, placing away from ourselves every interference, and the easily restricting sin.

³ And when she could no longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes and daubed it with tar and with pitch. And she put the child in it and laid it in the reeds by the river's edge.

⁵ And the waters will fail from the sea and the river will be wasted and become dry. ⁶ And the rivers will become foul. The streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up. The reeds and flags will wither away. ⁷ The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile and all the sown fields of the Nile, will become dry, be driven away and be no more.

⁶ Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers before it grows up, ⁷ with which the reaper fills not his hand, nor he who binds sheaves, his bosom.

⁶ For he will be like the heath in the desert and will not see when good comes, but will inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited.

²⁰ And he who was sown upon the rocky-areas, this is he who hears the word and immediately is receiving it with joy;

¹⁰ but the rich brother in his humbleness, because like the flower of the grass, he will be passing away. ¹¹ For the sun has risen together with the burning heat, and dried up the grass, and its flower fell and the beauty of its face perished. So shall the rich man also fade away in his pursuits.

²⁴ Because, ‘All flesh is like grass and all the glory of man is like the flower of grass. The grass dried up and the its flower fell away.

¹² then beware lest you forget Jehovah, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹¹ Beware lest you forget Jehovah your God, in not keeping his commandments and his ordinances and his statutes, which I command you this day.

¹⁴ then your heart be lifted up and you forget Jehovah your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,

¹⁹ And it will be, if you will forget Jehovah your God and walk after other gods and serve them and worship them, I testify against you* this day that you* will surely perish.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked will fail and they will have no way to flee. And their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.

¹⁶ This also will be my salvation, that a profane man will not come before him.

³⁴ For the company of the hypocrites will be barren and fire will consume the tents of bribery.

¹⁴ He will be rooted out of his tent where he trusts and he will be brought to the king of terrors.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short and the joy of the profane but for a moment?

⁸ For what is the hope of the profane, though he gets him gain, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty and call upon God at all times?

¹³ But those who are godless in heart lay up anger. They do not cry for help when he binds them.

¹⁷ Wicked men will be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.

⁴ The wicked man, in the pride of his countenance, says, He will not require it. All his thoughts are, There is no God.

²² Now consider this, you* who forget God, lest I tear you* in pieces and there is none to deliver:

²⁸ The hope of the righteous is gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown and are not, but the house of the righteous will stand.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid. Trembling has seized the profane. Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?

¹³ and have forgotten Jehovah your maker, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth and fear continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹⁸ And I said, My strength has perished and my expectation from Jehovah.

⁵¹ and will flog him, and will place his part with the hypocrites–the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there.

¹ At which time, when ten-thousand from the crowd were gathered together, so-that they trampled down one another, he began to say to his disciples first, Take-heed to yourselves, stay away from the leaven of the Pharisees; it is hypocrisy.
² But nothing is covered up, that will not be revealed; or secret, that will not be known.

⁵ They hatch adders' eggs and weave the spider's web. He who eats of their eggs dies and what is crushed breaks out into a viper. ⁶ Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of wickedness and the act of violence is in their hands.

¹⁸ He builds his house as the moth and as a booth which the keeper makes.

¹¹ Their inward thought is that their houses are everlasting, their dwelling-places to all generations. They call their lands after their own names.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.
⁶ The righteous also will see and fear and will laugh at him, saying, ⁷ Behold, this is the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

¹⁰ A wicked man will see it and be grieved. He will gnash with his teeth and melt away. The desire of wicked men will perish.

²⁴ Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and practices them, he will be similar to a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; ²⁵ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and fell down upon that house, and it did not fall; for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone hearing these words of mine and who is not doing them, will be similar to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and hit that house and it fell and great was its fall.

⁴⁷ Everyone who comes to me and hears my words, and is practicing them, I will show you to whom he is similar. ⁴⁸ He is similar to a man building a house, who dug and then deepened and placed its foundation upon the rock, and when a deluge happened, the river bursts against that house and was not strong-enough to shake it; for it had been founded upon the rock. ⁴⁹ But he who heard and did not, is similar to a man who built a house upon the earth without a foundation; which the river bursts against, and immediately it fell, and the breakup of that house became great.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, grow mighty in power? ⁸ Their seed is established with them in their sight and their offspring before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are safe from fear, nor is the rod of God upon them. ¹⁰ Their bull breeds and does not fail. Their cow brings forth safely and does not miscarry. ¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock and their children dance. ¹² They sing to the timbrel and harp and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
¹³ They spend their days in prosperity and in a moment they go down to Sheol.

³⁵ I have seen a wicked man in great power and spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶ But I passed by, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

³ Because I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ Because there are no pains in their death, but their strength is firm.
⁵ They are not in trouble as other men, nor are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is as a chain around their neck. Violence covers them as a garment.
⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness. They have more than heart could wish.
⁸ They scoff and utter oppression in wickedness. They speak loftily. ⁹ They have set their mouth in the heavens and their tongue walks through the earth.
¹⁰ Therefore his people return here and waters of a full cup are drained by them.
¹¹ And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?
¹² Behold, these are the wicked and those who prosper of old. They have possessed wealth.

¹¹ It sent out its limbs to the sea and its offshoots to the River.

¹⁶ Jehovah called your name, A green olive tree, fair with fruit. With the noise of a great tumult he has kindled fire upon it and the branches of it are broken.

¹⁶ His roots will be dried up beneath and above his limbs be will cut off.

¹⁹ My root is spread out to the waters and the dew lays all night upon my limb s.

²⁴ Therefore as the tongue of fire devours the stubble and as the dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root will be as rottenness and their blossom will go up as dust, because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ Yes, they have not been planted. Yes, they have not been sown. Yes, their stock has not taken root in the earth. Moreover he blows upon them and they wither and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.

¹ You are righteous, O Jehovah, when I contend with you. Yet I would reason the case with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those at ease who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them. Yes, they have taken root, they grow. Yes, they bring forth fruit. You are near in their mouth and far from their heart. But you, O Jehovah, know me. You see me and try my heart toward you.

²⁰ And in the morning, while traveling by, they saw the fig tree that has been dried up from the roots.

¹² These people are hidden-reefs in your love-feasts, sumptuously feasting fearlessly alongside you, shepherding themselves, they are waterless clouds, being carried away by the winds; unfruitful autumn trees, twice dead, having been uprooted,

⁸ The eye of him who sees me will behold me no more. Your eyes will be upon me, but I will not be.

¹⁰ He will return no more to his house, nor will his place know him any more.

⁹ The eye which saw him will see him no more, neither will his place any more behold him.

¹⁰ Yet a little while and the wicked man will not be. Yes, you will diligently consider his place and he will not be.

³⁶ But I passed by, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You cast them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How they have become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

⁷ When the wicked spring up like the grass and when all the workers of unrighteousness flourish, it is that they will be destroyed forever,

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, he lifts up the needy from the dunghill, to make them sit with rulers and inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are Jehovah's and he has set the world upon them.

⁷ Because God is the judge. He put one down and lifts another up.

⁷ He raises up a poor man out of the dust and lifts up a needy man from the dunghill,

²⁴ And all the trees of the field will know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree and have made the dry tree to flourish. I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

⁹ Do not think to say among yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able to lift up children out of these stones for Abraham.

²⁰ And he who was sown upon the rocky-areas, this is he who hears the word and immediately is receiving it with joy; ²¹ but he does not have root in himself, but is temporary, and when affliction or persecution has happened to him because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

⁷ I beseech you, remember those who perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?

²² It is all one thing. Therefore I say, He destroys the perfect and the wicked.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

²⁴ Because if he falls, he will not be utterly cast down, because Jehovah upholds him with his hand.

³⁷ Keep as the perfect man and behold the upright, because there is a happy end to the man of peace.

¹⁴ Because Jehovah will not cast off his people, nor will he forsake his inheritance.

¹ Jehovah says thus to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held to subdue nations before him. And I will loose the loins of kings to open the doors before him. And the gates will not be shut.

⁶ And Sarah said, God has made me to laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.

¹¹ And they sang one to another in praising and giving thanks to Jehovah, saying, For he is good, for his loving kindness is everlasting toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised Jehovah, because the foundation of the house of Jehovah was laid.
¹² But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers, the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice. And many shouted aloud for joy ¹³ so that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people. For the people shouted with a loud shout and the noise was heard afar off.

⁴³ And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy. And the women also and the children rejoiced, so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.

²² At destruction and dearth you will laugh, nor will you be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

¹¹ Be glad in Jehovah and rejoice, you*, righteous ones. And shout for joy, all you* who are upright in heart.

⁴ Shout to Jehovah, all the earth. Break forth and sing for joy, yes, sing praises.

¹ Shout to Jehovah, all you* lands.

² Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, Jehovah has done great things for them.

⁶ He who goes forth and weeps, bearing seed for sowing, will doubtless come again with joy, bringing his sheaves.

¹³ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah, Behold, my servants will eat, but you* will be hungry. Behold, my servants will drink, but you* will be thirsty. Behold, my servants will rejoice, but you* will be put to shame. ¹⁴ Behold, my servants will sing for joy of heart, but you* will cry for sorrow of heart and will wail for vexation of spirit.

²¹ You who hunger now are fortunate, because you will be fed. You who are weeping now are fortunate, because you will be laughing.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust and you will seek me diligently, but I will not be.

¹⁸ If he is destroyed from his place, then it will deny him, saying, I have not seen you.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my hurt. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who have become great against me.

²⁹ Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor and let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame, but upon himself his crown will flourish.

⁵ Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’
