¹ And it happened, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon and to the king of Shimron and to the king of Achshaph, ² and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill-country and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth and in the lowland and in the heights of Dor on the west, ³ to the Canaanite on the east and on the west and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite in the hill-country and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
⁴ And they went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots, very many. ⁵ And all these kings met together. And they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
⁶ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You will hock their horses and burn their chariots with fire. ⁷ So Joshua came and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly and fell upon them.
⁸ And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel and they killed* them and chased them to great Sidon and to Misrephoth-maim and to the valley of Mizpeh eastward. And they killed* them until they left them none remaining. ⁹ And Joshua did to them as Jehovah commanded him. He hocked their horses and burnt their chariots with fire.
¹⁰ And Joshua turned back at that time and took Hazor and killed* the king of it with the sword, for Hazor was formerly the head of all those kingdoms. ¹¹ And they killed* all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed and he burnt Hazor with fire.
¹² And all the cities of those kings and all the kings of them, Joshua took and he killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. ¹³ But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except only Hazor. Joshua burned that.
¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the sons of Israel took for a prey to themselves, but every man they killed* with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, neither did they leave any who breathed.
¹⁵ As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses. ¹⁶ So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country and all the South and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill-country of Israel and the lowland of the same, ¹⁷ from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. And he took all their kings and killed* them and put them to death. ¹⁸ Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
¹⁹ There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel, except the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took all in battle. ²⁰ For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them as Jehovah commanded Moses.
²¹ And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill-country of Judah and from all the hill-country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. ²² There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath and in Ashdod some remained.
²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spoke to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

³ Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent word to Hoham king of Hebron and to Piram king of Jarmuth and to Japhia king of Lachish and to Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ Come up to me and help me and let us kill* Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the sons of Israel.

¹⁰ And Joshua turned back at that time and took Hazor and killed* the king of it with the sword, for Hazor was formerly the head of all those kingdoms.

¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;

³⁶ and Adamah and Ramah and Hazor,

² And Jehovah sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan who reigned in Hazor, the captain of whose army was Sisera who dwelt in Harosheth-hagoyim.

¹⁷ However Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

¹ Why do the nations rage and the peoples meditate vain things? ² The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together, against Jehovah and against his anointed, saying, ³ Let us break their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.
⁴ He who sits in the heavens will laugh. The Lord will mock them.

¹ O God, do not keep your silence. Do not hold your peace and do not be still, O God. ² Because behold, your enemies make a tumult and those who hate you have lifted up the head.
³ They take crafty counsel against your people and consult together against your hidden ones.

¹¹ Jehovah, your hand is lifted up, yet they do not see. But they will see your zeal for the people and be put to shame. Yes, fire will devour your adversaries.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame kindle upon you.

⁵ Do not fear, for I am with you. I will bring your seed from the east and gather you from the west. ⁶ I will say to the north, Give up and to the south, Do not keep back. Bring my sons from far and my daughters from the end of the earth, ⁷ everyone who is called by my name and whom I have created for my glory, whom I have formed, yes, whom I have made.

¹¹ And the border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain. And the border will go down and will reach to the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward.

⁶ And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not your hand from your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the hill-country are gathered together against us.

⁴⁰ So Joshua killed* all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

²¹ And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill-country of Judah and from all the hill-country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth-jeshimoth and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah,

²³ the king of Dor in the height of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one;

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth-haram and Beth-nimrah and Succoth and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border of it, to the outermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

¹¹ And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher, Beth-shean and its towns and Ibleam and its towns and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights.

²⁷ And Manasseh did not drive out those of Beth-shean and its towns, nor of Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

¹¹ Ben-abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as a wife);

³⁹ Now having risen up in these days, Mary traveled diligently into the hill-country, into a city of Judah,

¹ Now it happened, while the crowd jammed against him to hear the word of God, that he was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret;

⁴⁹ and Mizpah. For he said, May Jehovah watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another,

¹ When Jehovah your God will bring you into the land where you go to possess it and will cast out many nations before you, the Hittite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you,

¹¹ and Gilead and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites and all Mount Hermon and all Bashan to Salecah;

³⁸ and Dilean and Mizpeh and Joktheel,

⁶³ And as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the sons of Judah could not drive them out, but the Jebusites dwell with the sons of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.

²⁶ and Mizpeh and Chephirah and Mozah,

³ namely, the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and the Hivites that dwelt in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

⁵ And the sons of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

¹ Then all the sons of Israel went out. And the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, to Jehovah at Mizpah.

⁵ And the sons of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that did not come up in the assembly to Jehovah? For they had made a great oath concerning him who did not come up to Jehovah to Mizpah, saying, He will surely be put to death.

⁸ And they said, Which one is there of the tribes of Israel that did not come up to Jehovah to Mizpah? And behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly.

⁵ And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah and I will pray for you* to Jehovah. ⁶ And they gathered together to Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Jehovah and fasted on that day and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the sons of Israel in Mizpah.
⁷ And when the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel were gathered together to Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the sons of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

¹⁷ And Samuel called the people together to Jehovah to Mizpah.

¹⁶ And when the messenger stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah relented of the evil and said to the messenger who destroyed the people, It is enough. Now stay your hand. And the messenger of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

²⁰ As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

²² Then king Asa made a proclamation to all Judah; none was exempted. And they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timber of it, with which Baasha had built. And king Asa built with it Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

¹² The north and the south, you have created them. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.

³ like the dew of Hermon, that comes down upon the mountains of Zion. Because there Jehovah commanded the blessing, even life everlasting.

⁸ Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, with me from Lebanon. Look from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

⁶ Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.

¹⁰ As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who will come to us. But you*, gather wine and summer fruits and oil and put them in your* vessels and dwell in your* cities that you* have taken.

³ Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with him, namely, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

¹⁴ So all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless you and in multiplying I will multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is upon the sea _shore and your seed will possess the gate of his enemies

¹² And you said, I will surely do you good and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

¹² And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the sons of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude and their camels were without number, as the sand which is upon the sea-shore for multitude.

⁵ And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel: thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven.

¹¹ But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude and that you go to battle in your own person.

²⁰ Judah and Israel were as many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.

¹ Jehovah, how my adversaries are increased! Many are those who rise up against me.

¹⁰ All nations encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹¹ They encompassed me around, yes, they encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹² They encompassed me around like bees. They are quenched as the fire of thorns. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah.

⁹ Make an uproar, O you* peoples and be broken in pieces. And listen, all you* of far countries. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces. Gird yourselves and be broken in pieces.

¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, doing signs; which travel out to the kings of the whole inhabited-earth, to gather them together to the war of that great day of God the Almighty.

¹⁶ And you will consume all the peoples that Jehovah your God will deliver to you. Your eye will not pity them. Neither will you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.

⁵ And Joshua said to the people, Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow Jehovah will do wonders among you*.

⁸ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Fear them not, for I have delivered them into your hands. There will not a man of them stand before you.

⁹ And Joshua did to them as Jehovah commanded him. He hocked their horses and burnt their chariots with fire.

²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And Jehovah said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

⁹ And they said to the messengers who came, Thus you* will say to the men of Jabesh-gilead, Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you* will have deliverance. And the messengers came and told the men of Jabesh and they were glad.

⁴ And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen. And David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.

¹⁶ Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they come up by the Ascent of Ziz. And you* will find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

⁷ Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will make mention of the name of Jehovah our God. ⁸ They are bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stand upright.

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

⁹ He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariots in the fire.

¹¹ Jehovah of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

¹⁰ He does not delight in the strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ Jehovah takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness.

⁷ A righteous man who walks in his integrity, his sons after him are fortunate.

¹⁶ but you* said, No, for we will flee upon horses. Therefore you* will flee. And you * said, We will ride upon the swift. Therefore those who pursue you* will be swift.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek Jehovah!

³ Assyria will not save us. We will not ride upon horses, nor will we say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods. For in you the fatherless finds mercy.

⁹ Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly, for he went up from Gilgal all the night.

² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night. ³ For whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never flee away from it.

¹⁵ And Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn and Heth

¹³ Zebulun will dwell at the haven of the sea and he will be for a haven of ships. And his border will be upon Sidon.

³ to the Canaanite on the east and on the west and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite in the hill-country and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians. I will drive them out from before the sons of Israel, only allot you it to Israel for an inheritance as I have commanded you.

²⁸ and Ebron and Rehob and Hammon and Kanah, even to great Sidon,

⁴⁴ And Jehovah gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. And there stood not a man of all their enemies before them. Jehovah delivered all their enemies into their hand.

² and also Hamath, which borders on it, Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise.

⁶ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this time I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You will hock their horses and burn their chariots with fire.

⁹ And those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go forth and will make fires of the weapons and burn them, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows and the hand staves and the spears. And they will make fires of them seven years, ¹⁰ so that they will take no wood out of the field, nor cut down any out of the forests, for they will make fires of the weapons. And they will plunder those who plundered them and rob those who robbed them, says the lord Jehovah.

⁵⁰ And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, ⁵¹ Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, When you* pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, ⁵² then you* will drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you* and destroy all their figured stones and destroy all their molten images and demolish all their high places.
⁵³ And you* will take possession of the land and dwell in it, for to you* I have given the land to possess it.

² and when Jehovah your God will deliver them up before you and you will kill* them, then you will utterly destroy them. You will make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance, you will save alive nothing that breathes, ¹⁷ but you will utterly destroy them–the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite–as Jehovah your God has commanded you,

⁸ And it will be, when you* have seized upon the city, that you* will set the city on fire. According to the word of Jehovah will you* do. See, I have commanded you*.

³¹ as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron. And they offered burnt offerings on it to Jehovah and sacrificed peace offerings.

²⁴ And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that Jehovah your God commanded his servant Moses to give you* all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you*. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you* and have done this thing.

²⁸ And Joshua took Makkedah on that day and killed* it with the edge of the sword and the king of it. He utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³⁰ And Jehovah delivered it also and the king of it, into the hand of Israel. And he killed* it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining in it and he did to the king of it as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³² And Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. And he took it on the second day and killed* it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

³⁵ And they took it on that day and killed* it with the edge of the sword. And all the souls that were in it he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

³⁷ and they took it and killed* it with the edge of the sword and the king of it and all the cities of it and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon, but he utterly destroyed it and all the souls that were in it.

³⁹ And he took it and the king of it and all the cities of it. And they killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and to the king of it, as he had done also to Libnah and to the king of it.
⁴⁰ So Joshua killed* all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded.

¹⁸ Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will turn again the captivity of Jacob's tents and have compassion on his dwelling-places. And the city will be built upon its own hill and the palace will be inhabited after its own manner.

⁹ And the sons of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones. And all their cattle and all their flocks and all their goods, they took for a prey.

¹¹ And they took all the spoil and all the prey, both of man and of beast. ¹² And they brought the captives and the prey and the spoil, to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.

¹⁰ And it will be, when Jehovah your God will bring you into the land which he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give you, great and pleasant cities, which you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which you did not fill and cisterns hewn out, which you did not hew, vineyards and olive trees, which you did not plant and you will eat and be full,

¹⁴ but the women and the little ones and the cattle and all that is in the city, even all the spoil of it, you will take for a prey to yourself. And you will eat the spoil of your enemies, which Jehovah your God has given you.

²⁷ Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua.

¹¹ And they killed* all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed and he burnt Hazor with fire.

¹¹ Observe you what I command you this day. Behold, I drive out before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. ¹² Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you go, lest it is for a snare in the midst of you.
¹³ But you* will break down their altars and dash in pieces their pillars and you* will cut down their Asherim,

⁴² According to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did all the work. ⁴³ And Moses saw all the work, and behold, they had done it, as Jehovah had commanded, even so they had done it. And Moses blessed them.

² You* will not add to the word which I command you*, neither will you* diminish from it, that you* may keep the commandments of Jehovah your* God which I command you*.

⁵ Behold, I have taught you* statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that you* should do so in the midst of the land where you* go in to possess it.

³² Whatever thing I command you*, that will you* observe to do. You will not add to it, nor diminish from it.

⁷ And Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage. For you will go with this people into the land which Jehovah has sworn to their fathers to give them and you will cause them to inherit it.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Turn not from it, neither to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

¹² And all the cities of those kings and all the kings of them, Joshua took and he killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

¹ And Samuel said to Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen you to the voice of the words of Jehovah. ² Jehovah of hosts says thus, I have remembered what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way when he came up out of Egypt.
³ Now go and kill* Amalek and utterly destroy all that they have and spare them not, but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing-baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.

⁸ And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. ⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the seconds and the lambs and all that was good and would not utterly destroy them. But everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

¹¹ I regret that I have set up Saul to be king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments. And Samuel was angry and he cried out to Jehovah all night.

¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of Jehovah, but did fly upon the spoil and did what was evil in the sight of Jehovah?
²⁰ And Saul said to Samuel, Yes, I have obeyed the voice of Jehovah and have gone the way which Jehovah sent me and have brought Agag the king of Amalek and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. ²¹ But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to Jehovah your God in Gilgal.
²² And Samuel said, Has Jehovah as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to listen than the fat of rams.

¹² Also the hand of God came upon Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the rulers by the word of Jehovah.

²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and yet have left behind the weighty things of the law: justice and mercy and faith. You ought to do these, and not to have left behind those other things.

⁴² But woe to you Pharisees! Because you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and are passing over justice and the love of God. It was essential to have practiced these things and to not leave the other things undone.

²⁰ how I did not retreat back in anything of what is advantageous for you, proclaiming and teaching you in public and in every house,

²⁷ For I did not retreat back from proclaiming to you the whole plan of God.

¹⁸ In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates: ¹⁹ the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

² Command the sons of Israel and say to them, When you* come into the land of Canaan (this is the land that will fall to you* for an inheritance, even the land of Canaan according to the borders of it), ³ then your* south quarter will be from the wilderness of Zin along by the side of Edom. And your* south border will be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward. ⁴ And your* border will turn about southward of the ascent of Akrabbim and pass along to Zin. And the goings out of it will be southward of Kadesh-barnea. And it will go forth to Hazar-addar and pass along to Azmon. ⁵ And the border will turn about from Azmon to the brook of Egypt and the goings out of it will be at the sea.
⁶ And for the western border, you* will have the great sea and the border of it. This will be your* west border.
⁷ And this will be your* north border: From the great sea you* will mark out for you* Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you* will mark out to the entrance of Hamath. And the goings out of the border will be at Zedad. ⁹ And the border will go forth to Ziphron and the goings out of it will be at Hazar-enan. This will be your* north border. ¹⁰ And you* will mark out your* east border from Hazar-enan to Shepham. ¹¹ And the border will go down from Shepham to Riblah, on the east side of Ain. And the border will go down and will reach to the side of the sea of Chinnereth eastward. ¹² And the border will go down to the Jordan and the goings out of it will be at the Salt Sea. This will be your* land according to the borders of it all around.
¹³ And Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, This is the land which you* will inherit by lot, which Jehovah has commanded to give to the nine tribes and to the half-tribe.

² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all the land of Judah, to the farther sea, ³ and the South and the Plain of the valley of Jericho the city of palm trees, to Zoar.

¹ And it happened, when all the kings who were beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country and in the lowland and on all the shore of the great sea in front of Lebanon–the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite–heard of it,

⁴¹ And Joshua killed* them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gaza and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.

² and to the kings who were on the north, in the hill-country and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth and in the lowland and in the heights of Dor on the west,

⁸ in the hill-country and in the lowland and in the Arabah and in the slopes and in the wilderness and in the South, the Hittite, the Amorite and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite:

²³ I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel and it will bring forth branches and bear fruit and be a majestic cedar. And all birds of every wing will dwell under it; they will dwell in the shade of the branches of it.

¹ And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, You* mountains of Israel, hear the word of Jehovah. ² The lord Jehovah says thus: Because the enemy has said against you*, Aha! and, The high places of old are ours in possession, ³ therefore prophesy and say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Because, even because they have made you* desolate and swallowed you* up on every side, that you* might be a possession to the residue of the nations and you* are taken up in the lips of talkers and the evil report of the people,

⁸ But you*, O mountains of Israel, you* will shoot forth your* branches and yield your* fruit to my people Israel, for they are at hand to come.

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.

¹ Then we turned and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as Jehovah spoke to me. And we encompassed Mount Seir many days.

²⁴ And he will deliver their kings into your hand and you will make their name to perish from under heaven. There will no man be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.

² And he said, Jehovah came from Sinai and rose from Seir to them. He shined forth from Mount Paran and he came from the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand was a fiery law for them.

⁴ From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, will be your* border.

⁷ And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the sons of Israel killed* beyond the Jordan westward, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon even to Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir and Joshua gave it to the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions, ⁸ in the hill-country and in the lowland and in the Arabah and in the slopes and in the wilderness and in the South, the Hittite, the Amorite and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite:
⁹ The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lassharon, one; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; ²⁰ the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; ²¹ the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; ²² the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; ²³ the king of Dor in the height of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one; ²⁴ the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty-one.

⁵ and the land of the Gebalites and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from Baal-gad under Mount Hermon to the entrance of Hamath;

²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spoke to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.
⁸ Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I entirely followed Jehovah my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land in which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your sons everlasting because you have entirely followed Jehovah my God.
¹⁰ And now, behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.

³ But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai, ⁴ they also worked shrewdly and went and made as if they had been ambassadors and took old sacks upon their donkeys and wine-skins, old and torn and bound up, ⁵ and old and patched shoes upon their feet and old garments upon them and all the bread of their provision was dry and became moldy.
⁶ And they went to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal and said to him and to the men of Israel, We have come from a far country, now therefore make you* a covenant with us. ⁷ And the men of Israel said to the Hivites, Perhaps you* dwell among us and how will we make a covenant with you*? ⁸ And they said to Joshua, We are your servants. And Joshua said to them, Who are you* and from where do you* come?
⁹ And they said to him, From a very far country. Your servants have come because of the name of Jehovah your God, for we have heard the fame of him and all that he did in Egypt, ¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.
¹¹ And our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, Take provision in your* hand for the journey and go to meet them and say to them, We are your* servants and now make you* a covenant with us.
¹² This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came out to go to you*, but now, behold, it is dry and has become moldy. ¹³ And these wine-skins, which we filled, were new, and behold, they are torn. And these our garments and our shoes have become old by reason of the very long journey.
¹⁴ And the men took of their provision and did not ask counsel at the mouth of Jehovah. ¹⁵ And Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them to let them live and the rulers of the congregation swore to them. ¹⁶ And it happened at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors and that they dwelt among them.
¹⁷ And the sons of Israel journeyed and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon and Chephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim. ¹⁸ And the sons of Israel did not kill* them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by Jehovah, the God of Israel. And all the congregation murmured against the rulers. ¹⁹ But all the rulers said to all the congregation, We have sworn to them by Jehovah, the God of Israel, now therefore we may not touch them.
²⁰ This we will do to them and let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them. ²¹ And the rulers said to them, Let them live. So they became hewers of wood and drawers of water to all the congregation, as the rulers had spoken to them.
²² And Joshua called for them and he spoke to them, saying, Why have you* beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you*, when you* dwell among us? ²³ Now therefore you* are cursed and there will never fail to be bondmen of you*, both hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.
²⁴ And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told your servants, how that Jehovah your God commanded his servant Moses to give you* all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you*. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you* and have done this thing. ²⁵ And now, behold, we are in your hand. As it seems good and right to you to do to us, do. ²⁶ And so he did to them and delivered them out of the hand of the sons of Israel, that they did not kill them. ²⁷ And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for the altar of Jehovah to this day in the place which he should choose.

²¹ And Jehovah said to Moses, When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.

¹⁶ But indeed for this cause I have raised you up, to display in you my power and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth.

¹⁷ And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians and they will go in after them and I will get for me honor upon Pharaoh and upon all his army, upon his chariots and upon his horsemen.

³⁰ But Sihon King of Heshbon would not let us pass by him, for Jehovah your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

¹² And all the cities of those kings and all the kings of them, Joshua took and he killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. ¹³ But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except only Hazor. Joshua burned that.
¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the sons of Israel took for a prey to themselves, but every man they killed* with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, neither did they leave any who breathed.
¹⁵ As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

⁴ But his father and his mother did not know that it was of Jehovah, for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

²⁵ If one man sins against another, God will judge him, but if a man sins against Jehovah, who will entreat for him? Notwithstanding, they did not listen to the voice of their father, because Jehovah intended to kill them.

¹⁵ So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a thing brought about by Jehovah, that he might establish his word, which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

²⁰ And Jehovah said, Who will entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner and another said on that manner.
²¹ And there came out a spirit and stood before Jehovah and said, I will entice him. ²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.

¹⁶ And it happened, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, Have we made you of the king's counsel? Cease. Why should you be struck? Then the prophet ceased and said, I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.

⁹ And he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand and see you* indeed, but do not perceive. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and shut their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn and be healed.

¹⁸ Therefore consequently, he shows-mercy on whom he wills and he hardens whom he wills.

²² But what if God, willing to show his wrath and to make his power known, carried us, vessels of wrath having been framed for destruction, in much patience; ²³ and in order that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory,

²² And they went up by the South and came to Hebron. And Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) ²³ And they came to the valley of Eshcol and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes and they bore it upon a staff between two, also of the pomegranates and of the figs.

³³ And we saw there the giants, the sons of Anak, who come of the giants. And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers and so we were in their sight.

²⁸ Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to heaven and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.

²¹ a people great and many and tall, as the Anakim. But Jehovah destroyed them before them and they succeeded them and dwelt in their stead,

² a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak?

⁴² And all these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because Jehovah, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

¹² Now therefore give me this hill-country of which Jehovah spoke in that day. For you heard in that day how the Anakim were there and cities great and fortified. It may be that Jehovah will be with me and I will drive them out, as Jehovah spoke.
¹³ And Joshua blessed him and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day because he entirely followed Jehovah, the God of Israel.

¹³ And to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the sons of Judah, according to the commandment of Jehovah to Joshua, even Kiriath-arba. Arba was the father of Anak (what is Hebron). ¹⁴ And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the sons of Anak.

¹¹ And you* went over the Jordan and came to Jericho. And the men of Jericho fought against you*, the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite. And I delivered them into your* hand. ¹² And I sent the hornet before you*, which drove them out from before you*, even the two kings of the Amorites, not with your sword, nor with your bow.

¹⁰ And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba) and they killed* Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai. ¹¹ And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher.)

²⁰ And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had spoken and he drove out the three sons of Anak from there.

⁵ The Lord at your right hand will strike through kings in the day of his wrath. ⁶ He will judge among the nations. He will fill with dead bodies. He will strike through the head in many countries.

⁶ The high praises of God are in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand ⁷ to execute vengeance upon the nations and punishments upon the peoples, ⁸ to bind their kings with chains and their ranking men with fetters of iron, ⁹ to execute upon them the written judgment. All his holy ones have this honor.
Praise Jehovah.

²³ Truly it is in vain from the heights, the multitude on the mountains. Truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.

²³ Jehovah says thus: Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, nor let the mighty man glory in his might. Do not let the rich man glory in his riches,

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and he was strong as the oaks, yet I destroyed his fruit from above and his roots from beneath.

² And behold a white horse and he who sits upon it holding a bow, and a crown was given to him and he came forth overcoming and in order that he might overcome.

¹¹ And I saw the heaven has been opened, and behold, a white horse and he who sits upon it being called Faithful and True, and he is judging in righteousness and is making war. ¹² Now his eyes are a flame of fire and upon his head are many diadems, and he has names written which no one knows except he himself. ¹³ And he has been dressed in a garment, having been dipped in blood and his name is called The Word of God. ¹⁴ And the armies which are in heaven were following him upon white horses, having clothed themselves in fine-linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And a sharp two edged long-sword travels out from his mouth, in order that he might strike the nations with it and he will shepherd them with an iron rod and he tramples on the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty. ¹⁶ And he has upon his garment and upon his thigh a name has been written, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
¹⁷ And I saw a messenger standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid-heaven, Come-here. Be gathered together to the great supper of God; ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit upon them and the flesh of all men, both free men and bondservants and both the little and the great.
¹⁹ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, have been gathered together to make a war with the one who sits upon the horse and with his army. ²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were killed with the long-sword of the one who sits upon the horse, which came forth out of his mouth and all the birds were fed from their flesh.

⁴⁶ from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

¹ Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God and they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

⁴ And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

¹⁶ and Ishbi-benob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
¹⁷ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him and killed* the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, You will no more go out with us to battle, that you not quench the lamp of Israel.
¹⁸ And it happened after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. Then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
¹⁹ And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. And Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
²⁰ And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had on every hand six fingers and on every foot six toes, twenty-four in number and he also was born to the giant. ²¹ And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David's brother, killed him. ²² These four were born to the giant in Gath and they fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his servants.

³⁹ And it happened at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away to Achish, son of Maacah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, your servants are in Gath.

¹³ and Beriah and Shema (who were heads of fathers of the inhabitants of Aijalon who put the inhabitants of Gath to flight)

¹ And after this it happened, that David killed* the Philistines and subdued them and took Gath and its towns out of the hand of the Philistines.

⁴ even three thousand talants of gold, of the gold of Ophir and seven thousand talants of refined silver, with which to overlay the walls of the houses, ⁵ of gold for the things of gold and of silver for the things of silver and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artisans. Who then offers willingly to consecrate himself this day to Jehovah?
⁶ Then the rulers of the fathers and the rulers of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers over the king's work, offered willingly. ⁷ And they gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talants and ten thousand 128-grain weights and of silver ten thousand talants and of brass eighteen thousand talants and of iron a hundred thousand talants. ⁸ And those with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of Jehovah under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

⁶ And he went forth and warred against the Philistines and broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod. And he built cities in the country of Ashdod and among the Philistines.

²³ In those days also I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab. ²⁴ And their sons spoke half in the speech of Ashdod and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

¹ In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him and he fought against Ashdod and took it,

²⁷ I will send my terror before you and will destroy all the people to whom you will come and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. ²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, which will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite and the Hittite, from before you.
²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you are increased and inherit the land.
³¹ And I will set your border from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your* hand and you will drive them out before you.

¹¹ Observe you what I command you this day. Behold, I drive out before you the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

⁵² And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ⁵³ To these the land will be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ To the many you will give more inheritance and to the few you will give less inheritance: to each one according to those who were numbered of him will his inheritance be given.
⁵⁵ Notwithstanding, the land will be divided by lot. They will inherit according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.

³⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he will go in there. Encourage him, for he will cause Israel to inherit it.

²³ then will Jehovah drive out all these nations from before you* and you* will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. ²⁴ Every place on which the sole of your* foot will tread will be yours*, from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea will be your* border. ²⁵ There will no man be able to stand before you*. Jehovah your* God will lay the fear of you* and the dread of you* upon all the land that you* will tread upon, as he has spoken to you*.

⁹ For you* are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Jehovah your God gives you.
¹⁰ But when you* go over the Jordan and dwell in the land which Jehovah your* God causes you* to inherit and he gives you* rest from all your* enemies all around, so that you* dwell in safety,

¹⁹ Therefore it will be, when Jehovah your God has given you rest from all your enemies all around, in the land which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you will blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven. You will not forget.

¹⁸ Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

¹ And these are the inheritances which the sons of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, distributed to them, ² by the lot of their inheritance, as Jehovah commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes and for the half-tribe. ³ For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. ⁴ For the sons of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And they gave no portion to the Levites in the land except cities to dwell in with the suburbs of it for their cattle and for their substance. ⁵ As Jehovah commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did and they divided the land.
⁶ Then the sons of Judah drew near to Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know the thing that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea. ⁷ I was forty years old when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.
⁸ Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I entirely followed Jehovah my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land in which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your sons everlasting because you have entirely followed Jehovah my God.
¹⁰ And now, behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. ¹¹ As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war and to go out and to come in.
¹² Now therefore give me this hill-country of which Jehovah spoke in that day. For you heard in that day how the Anakim were there and cities great and fortified. It may be that Jehovah will be with me and I will drive them out, as Jehovah spoke.
¹³ And Joshua blessed him and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day because he entirely followed Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba. Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim.
And the land had rest from war.

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah. And there Joshua divided the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.

⁴⁴ And Jehovah gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. And there stood not a man of all their enemies before them. Jehovah delivered all their enemies into their hand. ⁴⁵ There failed not anything of any good thing which Jehovah had spoken to the house of Israel; all happened.

⁴ And now Jehovah your* God has given rest to your* brothers, as he spoke to them. Therefore now turn and you* get to your* tents, to the land of your* possession, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you* beyond the Jordan.

¹ And it happened after many days, when Jehovah had given rest to Israel from all their enemies all around and Joshua was old and well stricken in years,

⁷ I have fought the good fight. I have completed the course. I have kept the faith. ⁸ Furthermore the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will be giving to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

⁸ For if Joshua had given-rest to them, he would have not been speaking concerning another day after these things. ⁹ Consequently, a Sabbath-rest is left for the people of God.
