¹ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not fear, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai and his people and his city and his land. ² And you will do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only the spoil of it and the cattle of it, you* will take for a prey to yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.
³ So Joshua arose and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor and sent them forth by night. ⁴ And he commanded them, saying, Behold, you* will lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but be you* all ready, ⁵ and I and all the people that are with me, will approach to the city. And it will happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them. ⁶ And they will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first. So we will flee before them.
⁷ And you* will rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for Jehovah your* God will deliver it into your* hand. ⁸ And it will be, when you* have seized upon the city, that you* will set the city on fire. According to the word of Jehovah will you* do. See, I have commanded you*.
⁹ And Joshua sent them forth and they went to the ambush and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai, but Joshua lodged that night among the people. ¹⁰ And Joshua arose up early in the morning and mustered the people and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
¹¹ And all the people, even the men of war who were with him, went up and drew near and came before the city and encamped on the north side of Ai. Now there was a valley between him and Ai. ¹² And he took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city. ¹³ So they set the people, even all the army that was on the north of the city and their ambush that were on the west of the city and Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
¹⁴ And it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hastened and rose up early and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah, but he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.
¹⁵ And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them and fled by the way of the wilderness. ¹⁶ And all the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them and they pursued after Joshua and were drawn away from the city. ¹⁷ And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel. And they left the city open and pursued after Israel.
¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city. ¹⁹ And the ambush arose quickly out of their place and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand and entered into the city and took it. And they hastened and set the city on fire.
²⁰ And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven and they had no power to flee this way or that way. And the people who fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.
²¹ And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again and killed the men of Ai. ²² And the others came forth out of the city against them, so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side. And they killed* them so that they let none of them remain or escape. ²³ And they took the king of Ai alive and brought him to Joshua.
²⁴ And it happened, when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all Israel returned to Ai and killed* it with the edge of the sword.
²⁵ And all who fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai. ²⁶ For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai. ²⁷ Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua. ²⁸ So Joshua burnt Ai and made it an everlasting heap, even a desolation, to this day.
²⁹ And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening. And at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded and they took his body down from the tree and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city and raised a great heap of stones on it, to this day.
³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar to Jehovah, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal, ³¹ as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron. And they offered burnt offerings on it to Jehovah and sacrificed peace offerings. ³² And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.
³³ And all Israel and their elders and officers and their judges, stood on this side of the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the traveler as the home born, half of them in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.
³⁴ And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law. ³⁵ There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel and the women and the little ones and the travelers who were among them.

²¹ Behold, Jehovah your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

¹⁸ You will not be afraid of them. You will remember well what Jehovah your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:

⁸ And Jehovah, he it is who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you. Do not fear, neither be dismayed.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. Do not be frightened, neither be dismayed, for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.

² And Jehovah said to Joshua, See, I have given Jericho into your hand and the king of it and the mighty men of valor.

⁶ And Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel and they put dust upon their heads.
⁷ And Joshua said, Alas, O lord Jehovah, why have you at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? Would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!

⁹ For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it and will encompass us around and cut off our name from the earth and what will you do for your great name?

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

³ Because they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm and the light of your countenance, because you were favorable to them.

¹¹ Jehovah of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

² Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust and will not be afraid, for Jehovah, even Jehovah, is my strength and song and he has become my salvation.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
¹¹ 1 Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be put to shame and confounded. Those who strive with you will be as nothing and will perish. ¹² You will seek them and will not find them, even those who contend with you. Those who war against you will be as nothing and as a thing of nothing. ¹³ For I, Jehovah your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, Do not fear, I will help you.
¹⁴ Do not fear, you worm Jacob and you* men of Israel. I will help you, says Jehovah and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. ¹⁵ Behold, I have made you as a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth. You will thresh the mountains and beat them small and will make the hills as chaff. ¹⁶ You will winnow them and the wind will carry them away and the whirlwind will scatter them. And you will rejoice in Jehovah. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.

² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame kindle upon you.

²⁷ But do not fear, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from afar and your seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease and none will make him afraid.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and sets up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.

³⁷ You, O king, are a king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power and the strength and the glory. ³⁸ And wherever the sons of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, he has given into your hand and has made you to rule over them all. You are the head of gold.

²⁵ That you will be driven from men and your dwelling will be with the beasts of the field. And you will be made to eat grass as oxen and will be wet with the dew of heaven.
And seven times will pass over you till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

²⁶ And he says to them, Why are you cowardly? You of small faith! Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there became a great calm.

² And Jehovah said to me, Fear him not, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land, into your hand. And you will do to him as you did to Sihon King of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

¹⁴ but the women and the little ones and the cattle and all that is in the city, even all the spoil of it, you will take for a prey to yourself. And you will eat the spoil of your enemies, which Jehovah your God has given you.

²¹ And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old and ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

⁷ And you* will rise up from the ambush and take possession of the city, for Jehovah your* God will deliver it into your* hand.

²⁷ Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for prey to themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua. ²⁸ So Joshua burnt Ai and made it an everlasting heap, even a desolation, to this day.
²⁹ And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening. And at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded and they took his body down from the tree and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city and raised a great heap of stones on it, to this day.

¹ Now it happened, when Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it, as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,

²⁸ And Joshua took Makkedah on that day and killed* it with the edge of the sword and the king of it. He utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

²⁹ And Israel set an ambush against Gibeah all around.
³⁰ And the sons of Israel went up against the sons of Benjamin on the third day and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times. ³¹ And the sons of Benjamin went out against the people and were drawn away from the city. And they began to kill* and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field about thirty men of Israel. ³² And the sons of Benjamin said, They are struck down before us as at the first. But the sons of Israel said, Let us flee and draw them away from the city to the highways. ³³ And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar and the ambush of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.

¹³ But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come around behind them, so they were before Judah and the ambush was behind them.

²² And when they began to sing and to praise, Jehovah set an ambush against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir who came against Judah and they were struck.

¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares garments as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just will put it on and the innocent will divide the silver.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a shadow. Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up and does not know who will gather them.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his son's sons and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

²⁰ A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich will not be unpunished.

¹¹ As the partridge that sits on eggs which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches and not by right. In the midst of his days they will leave him and at his end he will be a fool.

¹² Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon. Make the watch strong. Set the watchmen. Prepare the ambushes. For Jehovah has both purposed and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

²⁰ But God said to him, Fool, your soul is asked back from you in this night, and the things which you prepared, whose will they be? ²¹ So is he who is storing up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

³⁹ and they did not know until the flood came and took them all away; so the presence of the Son of Man will also be.

⁵⁰ the lord of that bondservant will be coming in a day in which he is not expecting him, and in an hour which he does not know,

⁶ But in the middle of the night, there has become an outcry, Behold, the bridegroom is coming! Go forth to the encounter of him.

² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will be coming like a thief in the night; in which the heavens will be passing away with a crashing-sound, and the elements will be dissolved, being burnt with heat, and the earth and the works which are in it will be burned up.

¹⁶ And all the people that were in the city were called together to pursue after them and they pursued after Joshua and were drawn away from the city.

²⁵ And the men of Shechem set ambushes for him on the tops of the mountains and they robbed all who came along that way by them and it was told Abimelech.

²⁹ And Israel set an ambush against Gibeah all around.

³³ And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar and the ambush of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.

³⁶ So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin because they trusted to the ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.

² Jehovah of hosts says thus, I have remembered what Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way when he came up out of Egypt.

⁵ And Saul came to the city of Amalek and laid wait in the valley.

¹⁹ Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers that are in a city.

¹⁶ Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.

²¹ Therefore you, do not be persuaded by them; for more-than forty out of them are plotting against him, who have vowed for themselves neither to eat nor to drink until they should have assassinated him, and they are ready now, waiting for the promise from you.

⁵ And the men of Ai killed* of them about thirty-six men. And they chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim and killed* them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted and became as water.

¹⁶ Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, become prudent like serpents and harmless like doves.

³ And Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel, They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire will be satisfied upon them. I will draw my sword, my hand will destroy them.

³² And the sons of Benjamin said, They are struck down before us as at the first. But the sons of Israel said, Let us flee and draw them away from the city to the highways.

¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

¹² Because man also does not know his time. As the fishes that are taken in an evil net and as the birds that are caught in the snare, even so are the sons of men snared in an evil time when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Do not fear, neither be dismayed. Take all the people of war with you and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai and his people and his city and his land.

¹ Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and honorable, because by him Jehovah had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Jehovah.
³¹ The horse is prepared against the day of battle, but victory is from Jehovah.

¹⁶ And they answered Joshua, saying, All that you have commanded us we will do and wherever you send us we will go.

²⁴ And they burnt the city with fire and all that was in it. Only the silver and the gold and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah.

²⁸ So Joshua burnt Ai and made it an everlasting heap, even a desolation, to this day.

⁶ And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, Has not Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded, saying, Go and draw near to Mount Tabor and take with you ten thousand men of the sons of Naphtali and of the sons of Zebulun?

²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Notice you* now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine and when I say to you*, Strike Amnon, then kill him. Do not fear; have I not commanded you*? Be courageous and be valiant.

⁸ And he moved from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to Jehovah and called upon the name of Jehovah.

²¹ So the present passed over before him and he himself lodged that night in the company.

² And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Bethel and spoke to them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.

²⁸ The men of Bethel and Ai, two hundred twenty-three.

³² the men of Bethel and Ai, a hundred twenty-three;

³ And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son. And he split the wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went to the place of which God had told him.

¹ And Joshua rose up early in the morning. And they moved from Shittim and came to the Jordan, he and all the sons of Israel and they lodged there before they passed over.

¹² And Joshua rose early in the morning and the priests took up the ark of Jehovah.

¹⁶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes and the tribe of Judah was taken.

⁶⁰ I made haste and delayed not, to observe your commandments.

⁸ And it will be, when you* have seized upon the city, that you* will set the city on fire. According to the word of Jehovah will you* do. See, I have commanded you*.

¹ These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suph, between Paran and Tophel and Laban and Hazeroth and Di-zahab.

⁵ and I and all the people that are with me, will approach to the city. And it will happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them.

³⁴ And there came opposite Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel and the battle was severe, but they did not know that evil was close upon them.
³⁵ And Jehovah killed* Benjamin before Israel and the sons of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand and a hundred men. All these drew the sword. ³⁶ So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin because they trusted to the ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.

¹¹ The rulers of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How will you* say to Pharaoh, I am the son of wise men, the son of long-ago kings?

¹³ The rulers of Zoan have become fools. The rulers of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go-astray, the chief of her tribes.

³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, a voice from heaven fell, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from you.

¹ Now brethren, you have no need for anything to be written to you concerning the times and the seasons. ² For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord so comes like a thief in the night. ³ For whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never flee away from it.

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

⁶¹ In the wilderness, Beth-arabah, Middin and Secacah,

¹ And the lot came out for the sons of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill-country to Bethel.

¹² And their border on the north quarter was from the Jordan and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north and went up through the hill-country westward. And the goings out of it were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

⁵ and I and all the people that are with me, will approach to the city. And it will happen, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them. ⁶ And they will come out after us, till we have drawn them away from the city, for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first. So we will flee before them.

³¹ And the sons of Benjamin went out against the people and were drawn away from the city. And they began to kill* and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field about thirty men of Israel.

³⁶ So the sons of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin because they trusted to the ambush whom they had set against Gibeah. ³⁷ And the ambush hastened and rushed upon Gibeah. And the ambush drew themselves along and killed* all the city with the edge of the sword.
³⁸ Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambush was, that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city. ³⁹ And the men of Israel turned in the battle and Benjamin began to kill* and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons, for they said, Surely they are struck down before us as in the first battle.

¹⁶ Jehovah has made himself known. He has executed justice. The wicked man is snared in the work of his own hands. A meditation. Selah.

¹¹ And you will say, I will go up to the land of un-walled villages. I will go to those who are at rest, who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls and having neither bars nor gates, ¹² to take the spoil and to take the prey, to turn your hand against the waste places that are now inhabited and against the people who are gathered out of the nations, who have gotten cattle and goods, who dwell in the middle of the earth.
¹³ Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions of it, will say to you, Have you come to take the spoil? Have you assembled your company to take the prey, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take great spoil?
¹⁴ Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, The lord Jehovah says thus: In that day when my people Israel dwell securely, will you not know it?
¹⁵ And you will come from your place out of the outermost parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding upon horses, a great company and a mighty army. ¹⁶ And you will come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land. It will happen in the latter days, that I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when I will be made holy in you, O Gog, before their eyes.
¹⁷ The lord Jehovah says thus: Are you he of whom I spoke in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring you against them?
¹⁸ And it will happen in that day, when Gog will come against the land of Israel, says the lord Jehovah, that my wrath will come up into my nostrils. ¹⁹ For I have spoken in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath.
Surely in that day there will be a great shaking in the land of Israel, ²⁰ so that the fishes of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep upon the earth and all the men who are upon the face of the earth, will shake at my presence. And the mountains will be thrown down and the steep places will fall and every wall will fall to the ground.
²¹ And I will call for a sword against him to all my mountains, says the lord Jehovah. Every man's sword will be against his brother. ²² And I will enter into judgment with him with pestilence and with blood. And I will rain upon him and upon his hordes and upon the many peoples who are with him, an overflowing shower and great hailstones, fire and brimstone.

¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, doing signs; which travel out to the kings of the whole inhabited-earth, to gather them together to the war of that great day of God the Almighty.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, have been gathered together to make a war with the one who sits upon the horse and with his army. ²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone. ²¹ And the rest were killed with the long-sword of the one who sits upon the horse, which came forth out of his mouth and all the birds were fed from their flesh.

³⁰ But Sihon King of Heshbon would not let us pass by him, for Jehovah your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

³ So Joshua arose and all the people of war, to go up to Ai. And Joshua chose out thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor and sent them forth by night.

²⁴ And it happened, when Israel had made an end of killing all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them and they were all fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all Israel returned to Ai and killed* it with the edge of the sword.
²⁵ And all who fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

²⁰ For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them as Jehovah commanded Moses.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness and the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

¹¹ The rulers of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How will you* say to Pharaoh, I am the son of wise men, the son of long-ago kings? ¹² Where then are your wise men? And let them tell you now and let them know what Jehovah of hosts has purposed concerning Egypt. ¹³ The rulers of Zoan have become fools. The rulers of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go-astray, the chief of her tribes.

⁵ And Jehovah said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Stretch forth your hand with your rod over the rivers, over the streams and over the pools and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ And lift you up your rod and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it and the sons of Israel will go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua, Choose us out men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand. ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses had said to him and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
¹¹ And it happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses' hands were heavy. And they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side and the other on the other side. And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

²⁶ For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the javelin, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

⁶ And he had greaves of brass upon his legs and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.

⁴¹ And the Philistine came on and drew near to David and the man who bore the shield went before him.

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

²⁵ Because he has stretched out his hand against God and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty.

²³ The quiver rattles against him, the flashing spear and the javelin.

²⁸ And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the Plain and saw it. And behold, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of a furnace.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked will fail and they will have no way to flee. And their hope will be the giving up of the spirit.

⁵ They saw it, then were they amazed. They were dismayed, they hastened away. ⁶ Trembling took hold of them there, pain, as of a woman in travail.

⁵ The stouthearted are made a spoil. They have slept their sleep and none of the men of might have found their hands.

¹⁰ It will not be quenched night nor day. The smoke of it will go up everlasting. From generation to generation it will lie waste. None will pass through it forever and forever.

¹⁴ And flight will perish from the swift and the strong will not strengthen his force, nor will the mighty deliver himself. ¹⁵ Neither will he stand who handles the bow. And he who is swift of foot will not deliver himself, nor will he who rides the horse deliver himself. ¹⁶ And he who is courageous among the mighty will flee away naked in that day, says Jehovah.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth and the great-men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every bondservant and free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and they say to the mountains and to the rocks, Fall upon us and hide us from the face of the one who is sitting upon the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷ for the great day of his wrath has come, and who is able to stand?

⁹ And the kings of the earth, who fornicated and were promiscuous with her, will weep and will grieve over her, whenever they look upon the smoke of her fire,

³ And they have said a second-time, Hallelujah. And her smoke goes up forevermore.

² and when Jehovah your God will deliver them up before you and you will kill* them, then you will utterly destroy them. You will make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.

¹¹ And they killed* all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed and he burnt Hazor with fire.
¹² And all the cities of those kings and all the kings of them, Joshua took and he killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short and the joy of the profane but for a moment?

²⁶ And just-as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will also be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being betrothed, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise, even as it happened in the days of Lot; they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; ²⁹ but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ According to these things, it will be in the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

³ For whenever they are saying, Peace and security; then sudden utter-destruction stands by them, just-like the travail a woman has in her womb, and they may never flee away from it.

²⁹ And he hanged the king of Ai on a tree until the evening. And at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded and they took his body down from the tree and cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city and raised a great heap of stones on it, to this day.

¹⁷ And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hidden in the cave at Makkedah.

⁸ And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone.

²⁴ And Israel killed* him with the edge of the sword and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the sons of Ammon, for the border of the sons of Ammon was strong.

³⁰ And Jehovah delivered it also and the king of it, into the hand of Israel. And he killed* it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining in it and he did to the king of it as he had done to the king of Jericho.
³¹ And Joshua passed from Libnah and all Israel with him, to Lachish and encamped against it and fought against it. ³² And Jehovah delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. And he took it on the second day and killed* it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah. ³³ Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish. And Joshua killed* him and his people until he had left him none remaining.
³⁴ And Joshua passed from Lachish and all Israel with him, to Eglon. And they encamped against it and fought against it. ³⁵ And they took it on that day and killed* it with the edge of the sword. And all the souls that were in it he utterly destroyed that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
³⁶ And Joshua went up from Eglon and all Israel with him, to Hebron. And they fought against it, ³⁷ and they took it and killed* it with the edge of the sword and the king of it and all the cities of it and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon, but he utterly destroyed it and all the souls that were in it.
³⁸ And Joshua returned and all Israel with him, to Debir and fought against it. ³⁹ And he took it and the king of it and all the cities of it. And they killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir and to the king of it, as he had done also to Libnah and to the king of it.
⁴⁰ So Joshua killed* all the land, the hill-country and the South and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah, the God of Israel, commanded. ⁴¹ And Joshua killed* them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gaza and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.

¹⁰ And Joshua turned back at that time and took Hazor and killed* the king of it with the sword, for Hazor was formerly the head of all those kingdoms. ¹¹ And they killed* all the souls who were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them. There was none left that breathed and he burnt Hazor with fire.
¹² And all the cities of those kings and all the kings of them, Joshua took and he killed* them with the edge of the sword and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded. ¹³ But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except only Hazor. Joshua burned that.
¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the sons of Israel took for a prey to themselves, but every man they killed* with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, neither did they leave any who breathed.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance, you will save alive nothing that breathes, ¹⁷ but you will utterly destroy them–the Hittite and the Amorite, the Canaanite and the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite–as Jehovah your God has commanded you, ¹⁸ that they not teach you* to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods, so you* would sin against Jehovah your* God.

¹⁸ And Jehovah said to Joshua, Stretch out the javelin that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand. And Joshua stretched out the javelin that was in his hand toward the city.

²² only the gold and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin and the lead–

²⁶ Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, you and Eleazar the priest and the heads of the fathers of the congregation,

² And you will do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only the spoil of it and the cattle of it, you* will take for a prey to yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.

⁴ And they went out, they and all their armies with them, many people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots, very many.

¹⁰ Because every beast of the forest is mine and the cattle upon a thousand hills.

¹⁵ Or is it not legal for me to do what I will in the things which are mine? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?

¹⁶ And you will gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street of it and will burn the city with fire and all the spoil of it, every whit, to Jehovah your God and it will be a heap everlasting. It will not be built again.

⁹ And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood and they are there to this day.

²⁵ Have you not heard how I have done it from afar and formed it of times long-ago? Now I have made it occur, that you should be to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

¹ The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city and it will be a ruinous heap.

² For you have made of a city a heap, of a fortified city a ruin, a palace of strangers to be no city. It will not be built everlasting.

¹¹ And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

² Therefore, behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon and it will become a desolate heap and her daughters will be burned with fire. Then Israel will possess those who possessed him, says Jehovah.

²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border. Open her store-houses. Cast her up as heaps and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left.

¹² Therefore for your* sake Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

²² And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death and he is put to death and you hang him on a tree, ²³ his body will not remain all night upon the tree, but you will surely bury him the same day, for he who is hanged is accursed of God, that you not defile your land which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance.

²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones, to this day and Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called the valley of Achor to this day.

²⁶ And afterward Joshua killed* them and put them to death and hanged them on five trees. And they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.
²⁷ And it happened at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded and they took them down off the trees and cast them into the cave in which they had hidden themselves and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, to this very day.
²⁸ And Joshua took Makkedah on that day and killed* it with the edge of the sword and the king of it. He utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³⁰ And Jehovah delivered it also and the king of it, into the hand of Israel. And he killed* it with the edge of the sword and all the souls that were in it. He left none remaining in it and he did to the king of it as he had done to the king of Jericho.

³³ Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish. And Joshua killed* him and his people until he had left him none remaining.

¹⁷ And they took Absalom and cast him into the great pit in the forest and raised over him a very great heap of stones. And all Israel fled every man to his tent.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

⁴⁰ He pours contempt upon rulers and makes them to wander in the waste, where there is no way.

⁵ The Lord at your right hand will strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

²³ But instantly a messenger of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory and he expired, having become maggot-eaten.

¹⁷ And I saw a messenger standing in the sun, and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in mid-heaven, Come-here. Be gathered together to the great supper of God; ¹⁸ in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit upon them and the flesh of all men, both free men and bondservants and both the little and the great.

²⁰ And Noah built an altar to Jehovah and took of every clean beast and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

⁷ And Jehovah appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your seed. And there he built an altar to Jehovah, who appeared to him. ⁸ And he moved from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to Jehovah and called upon the name of Jehovah.

²⁴ An altar of earth you will make to me and will sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.

⁴ And it will be, when you* have passed over the Jordan, that you* will set up these stones, which I command you* this day, in Mount Ebal and you will plaster them with plaster. ⁵ And there you will build an altar to Jehovah your God, an altar of stones. You will lift up no iron upon them. ⁶ You will build the altar of Jehovah your God of unhewn stones. And you will offer burnt offerings on it to Jehovah your God.

¹² And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. And Aaron came and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.

²⁴ An altar of earth you will make to me and will sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.
²⁵ And if you make to me an altar of stone, you will not build it of hewn stones, because if you lift up your tool upon it, you have polluted it.

⁵ And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to Jehovah.

⁵ And there you will build an altar to Jehovah your God, an altar of stones. You will lift up no iron upon them. ⁶ You will build the altar of Jehovah your God of unhewn stones. And you will offer burnt offerings on it to Jehovah your God. ⁷ And you will sacrifice peace offerings and will eat there and you will rejoice before Jehovah your God.

⁸ This book of the law will not depart out of your mouth, but you will meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

³⁴ And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, according to all that is written in the book of the law. ³⁵ There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel and the women and the little ones and the travelers who were among them.

³¹ And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of Jehovah came, saying, Israel will be your name. ³² And with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah. And he made a trench around the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

⁶ but he did not put to death the sons of the murderers, according to what is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers will not be put to death for the sons, nor the sons be put to death for the fathers, but every man will die for his own sin.

⁸ And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan and he read it.

⁴ But he did not put their sons to death, but did according to what is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Jehovah commanded, saying, The fathers will not die for the sons, neither will the sons die for the fathers, but every man will die for his own sin.

¹² And they removed the burnt offerings that they might give them according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of the sons of the people, to offer to Jehovah as it is written in the book of Moses. And so they did with the oxen.

¹⁸ And they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their divisions, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.

¹ On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people and in it was found written that an Ammonite and a Moabite should not enter into the assembly of God everlasting,

²⁶ And if the Adversary casts out the Adversary, he is divided against himself. Therefore how will his kingdom stand?

² And it will be on the day when you* will pass over the Jordan to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, that you will set up for you great stones and plaster them with plaster. ³ And you will write upon them all the words of this law when you have passed over, that you may go in to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has promised you.

⁸ And you will write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

⁴⁹ One law will be to him who is home-born and to the stranger who travels among you*.

²² You* will have one manner of law, as for the traveler, as for the home-born, for I am Jehovah your* God.

¹⁶ One law and one ordinance will be for you* and for the stranger who travels with you*.

²⁹ You* will have one law for him who does anything unwittingly, for him who is native among the sons of Israel and for the stranger who travels among them.

²⁹ And it will happen, when Jehovah your God will bring you into the land where you go to possess it, that you will set the blessing upon Mount Gerizim and the curse upon Mount Ebal.

¹¹ And Moses charged the people the same day, saying, ¹² These will stand upon Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you* have passed over the Jordan: Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Joseph and Benjamin. ¹³ And these will stand upon Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad and Asher and Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
¹⁴ And the Levites will answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

¹⁰ You* stand this day all of you* before Jehovah your* God–your* heads, your* tribes, your* elders and your* officers, even all the men of Israel, ¹¹ your* little ones, your* wives and your traveler who is in the midst of your camps, from the hewer of your wood to the drawer of your water–

⁹ And Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and to all the elders of Israel.

¹² Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones and your traveler who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your* God and observe to do all the words of this law,

²⁵ that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying,

³ and they commanded the people, saying, When you* see the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your* God and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you* will move from your* place and go after it.

⁶ And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.

¹⁴ And it happened, when the people moved from their tents to pass over the Jordan–the priests who bore the ark of the covenant being before the people–

¹⁰ For the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua. And the people hastened and passed over.

¹⁸ And it happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Jehovah came up out of the midst of the Jordan and the soles of the priests' feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and went over all its banks, as formerly.

⁶ And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Jehovah.

³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar to Jehovah, the God of Israel, in Mount Ebal, ³¹ as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of unhewn stones, upon which no man had lifted up any iron. And they offered burnt offerings on it to Jehovah and sacrificed peace offerings. ³² And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote, in the presence of the sons of Israel.

² that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads and for their judges and for their officers and said to them, I am old and well stricken in years,

¹ And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders of Israel and for their heads and for their judges and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

¹¹ And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah and Joel, Shemaiah and Eliel and Amminadab. ¹² And said to them, You* are the heads of the fathers of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you* and your* brothers, that you* may bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it. ¹³ For because you* did not at the first, Jehovah our God made a breach upon us, because we did not seek him according to the ordinance.
¹⁴ So the priests and the Levites made themselves holy to bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the sons of the Levites bore the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves on it, as Moses commanded according to the word of Jehovah.

¹ You* will make for you* no idols. Neither will you* rear up for you* a graven image, or a pillar. Neither will you* place any figured stone in your* land, to bow down to it. For I am Jehovah your* God.
² You* will keep my Sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary. I am Jehovah.
³ If you* walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them, ⁴ then I will give your* rains in their season and the land will yield its increase and the trees of the field will yield their fruit. ⁵ And your* threshing will reach to the vintage and the vintage will reach to the sowing time and you* will eat your* bread to the full and dwell in your* land safely.
⁶ And I will give peace in the land and you* will lie down and none will make you* afraid. And I will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land, nor will the sword go through your* land. ⁷ And you* will chase your* enemies and they will fall before you* by the sword. ⁸ And five of you* will chase a hundred and a hundred of you* will chase ten thousand and your* enemies will fall before you* by the sword.
⁹ And I will have respect to you* and make you* fruitful and multiply you* and will establish my covenant with you*. ¹⁰ And you* will eat old storage long kept and you* will bring forth the old because of the new.
¹¹ And I will set my tabernacle among you* and my soul will not abhor you*. ¹² And I will walk among you* and will be your* God and you* will be my people. ¹³ I am Jehovah your* God, who brought you* forth out of the land of Egypt, that you* should not be their bondmen. And I have broken the bars of your* yoke and made you* go upright.
¹⁴ But if you* will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, ¹⁵ and if you* will reject my statutes and if your* soul abhors my ordinances, so that you* will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant, ¹⁶ I also will do this to you*: I will appoint terror over you*, even consumption and fever, that will consume the eyes and make the soul to pine away. And you* will sow your* seed in vain, for your* enemies will eat it. ¹⁷ And I will set my face against you* and you* will be struck before your* enemies. Those who hate you* will rule over you* and you* will flee when no man pursues you*.
¹⁸ And if for these things you* will not yet listen to me, then I will discipline you* seven times more for your* sins. ¹⁹ And I will break the pride of your* power. And I will make your* sky as iron and your* earth as brass, ²⁰ and your* strength will be spent in vain, for your* land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.
²¹ And if you* walk contrary to me and will not listen to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you* according to your* sins. ²² And I will send the beast of the field among you*, which will rob you* of your* sons and destroy your* cattle and make you* few in number and your* ways will become desolate.
²³ And if by these things you* will not be reformed to me, but will walk contrary to me, ²⁴ then I also will walk contrary to you* and I will kill* you*, even I, seven times for your* sins. ²⁵ And I will bring a sword upon you* that will execute the vengeance of the covenant and you* will be gathered together within your* cities. And I will send the pestilence among you* and you* will be delivered into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I break your* staff of bread, ten women will bake your* bread in one oven and they will deliver your* bread again by weight and you* will eat and not be satisfied.
²⁷ And if for all this you* will not listen to me, but walk contrary to me, ²⁸ then I will walk contrary to you* in wrath and I also will discipline you* seven times for your* sins. ²⁹ And you* will eat the flesh of your* sons and the flesh of your* daughters you* will eat. ³⁰ And I will destroy your* high places and cut down your* sun-images and cast your* dead bodies upon the bodies of your* idols and my soul will abhor you*. ³¹ And I will make your* cities a waste and will bring your* sanctuaries to desolation and I will not smell the savor of your* sweet odors. ³² And I will bring the land into desolation and your* enemies who dwell in it will be astonished at it.
³³ And I will scatter you* among the nations and I will draw out the sword after you* and your* land will be a desolation and your* cities will be a waste. ³⁴ Then the land will enjoy its Sabbaths, as long as it lies desolate and you* are in your* enemies' land, even then will the land rest and enjoy its Sabbaths. ³⁵ As long as it lies desolate it will have rest, even the rest which it had not in your* Sabbaths, when you* dwelt upon it.
³⁶ And as for those who are left of you*, I will send a faintness into their heart in the lands of their enemies. And the sound of a driven leaf will chase them and they will flee as a man flees from the sword and they will fall when no man pursues. ³⁷ And they will stumble one upon another, as it were before the sword, when no man pursues. And you* will have no power to stand before your* enemies. ³⁸ And you* will perish among the nations and the land of your* enemies will eat you* up. ³⁹ And those who are left of you* will pine away in their iniquity in your* enemies' lands and also in the iniquities of their fathers they will pine away with them.
⁴⁰ And they will confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, in their trespass which they trespassed against me and also that, because they walked contrary to me, ⁴¹ I also walked contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies. If then their uncircumcised heart be humbled and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity, ⁴² then I will remember my covenant with Jacob and also my covenant with Isaac and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember and I will remember the land. ⁴³ The land also will be left by them and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them. And they will accept of the punishment of their iniquity, because, even because they rejected my ordinances and their soul loathed my statutes.
⁴⁴ And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly and to break my covenant with them, for I am Jehovah their God, ⁴⁵ but for their sakes I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am Jehovah.
⁴⁶ These are the statutes and ordinances and laws, which Jehovah made between him and the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai by Moses.

¹⁴ And the Levites will answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
¹⁵ Cursed be the man who makes a graven or molten image, an abomination to Jehovah, the work of the hands of the craftsman and sets it up in secret. And all the people will answer and say, Truly.
¹⁶ Cursed be he who dishonors his father or his mother. And all the people will say, Truly.
¹⁷ Cursed be he who removes his neighbor's landmark. And all the people will say, Truly.
¹⁸ Cursed be he who makes the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people will say, Truly.
¹⁹ Cursed be he who distorts the justice to the traveler, fatherless and widow. And all the people will say, Truly.
²⁰ Cursed be he who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's skirt. And all the people will say, Truly.
²¹ Cursed be he who lies with any manner of beast. And all the people will say, Truly.
²² Cursed be he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people will say, Truly.
²³ Cursed be he who lies with his mother-in-law. And all the people will say, Truly.
²⁴ Cursed be he who slays his neighbor in secret. And all the people will say, Truly.
²⁵ Cursed be he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent man. And all the people will say, Truly.
²⁶ Cursed is every man who does not continue in all things written in the book of the law, to do them. And all the people will say, Truly.

¹⁴ and will not turn aside from any of the words which I command you* this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
¹⁵ But it will happen, if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you this day, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
¹⁶ You will be cursed in the city and you will be cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading-trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your cattle and the young of your flock will be cursed. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and you be will cursed when you go out. ²⁰ Jehovah will send upon you cursing, confusion and rebuke, in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your practices, by which you have forsaken me.
²¹ Jehovah will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from the land, where you go in to possess it. ²² Jehovah will kill* you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew. And they will pursue you until you perish.
²³ And your sky that is over your head will be brass and the earth that is under you will be iron. ²⁴ Jehovah will make the rain of your land powder and dust. From the sky it will come down upon you, until you are destroyed.
²⁵ Jehovah will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them and will flee seven ways before them. And you will be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your dead body will be food to all birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth and there will be none to frighten them away.
²⁷ Jehovah will kill* you with the boils of Egypt and with the tumors and with the scurvy and with the itch, of which you cannot be healed.
²⁸ Jehovah will kill* you with madness and with blindness and with confusion of mind, ²⁹ and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you.
³⁰ You will betroth a wife and another man will lie with her. You will build a house and you will not dwell in it. You will plant a vineyard and will not use the fruit of it. ³¹ Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. And your eyes will look and fail with longing for them all the day and there will be nothing in the power of your hand. ³³ The fruit of your ground and all your labors, will a nation eat up which you do not know. And you will only be oppressed and crushed always, ³⁴ so that you will be mad because of the sight of your eyes which you will see.
³⁵ Jehovah will kill* you in the knees and in the legs, with a sore boil, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
³⁶ Jehovah will bring you and your king whom you will set over you, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. And there you will serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become an astonishment, a proverb and a parable, among all the peoples where Jehovah will lead you away.
³⁸ You will carry much seed out into the field and will gather little in, for the locust will consume it. ³⁹ You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor gather, for the worm will eat them. ⁴⁰ You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you will not anoint yourself with the oil, for your olive will drop off. ⁴¹ You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruit of your ground will the locust possess.
⁴³ The traveler who is in the midst of you will mount up above you higher and higher and you will come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail.
⁴⁵ And all these curses will come upon you and will pursue you and overtake you, till you are destroyed, because you listened not to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you, ⁴⁶ and they will be upon you for a sign and for a wonder and upon your seed everlasting. ⁴⁷ Because you served not Jehovah your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies that Jehovah will send against you, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in want of all things. And he will put a yoke of iron upon your neck, until he has destroyed you.
⁴⁹ Jehovah will bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies, a nation whose tongue you will not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, that will not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and will eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed, that also will not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your cattle, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish. ⁵² And they will besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land. And they will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which Jehovah your God has given you.
⁵³ And you will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom Jehovah your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you. ⁵⁴ The man who is tender among you* and very delicate, his eye will be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his sons whom he has remaining, ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his sons whom he will eat, because he has nothing left to him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.
⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you*, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye will be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet and toward her sons whom she will bear, for she will eat them secretly for want of all things, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in your gates.
⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH YOUR GOD, ⁵⁹ then Jehovah will make your calamities extraordinary and the calamities of your seed, even great calamities and of long continuance and severe sicknesses and of long continuance.
⁶⁰ And he will bring upon you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of and they will cling to you. ⁶¹ Also every sickness and every calamity, which is not written in the book of this law, them Jehovah will bring upon you, until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you* will be left few in number, in that you* were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God.
⁶³ And it will happen, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you* to do you* good and to multiply you*, so Jehovah will rejoice over you* to cause you* to perish and to destroy you*. And you* will be plucked from the land where you go in to possess it.
⁶⁴ And Jehovah will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. And you will serve other gods there, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone ones.
⁶⁵ And among these nations you will find no ease and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot, but Jehovah will give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and pining of soul. ⁶⁶ And your life will hang in doubt before you and you will fear night and day and will have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, Would it were evening! and at evening you will say, Would it were morning! for the fear of your heart which you will fear and for the sight of your eyes which you will see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You will see it no more again. And there you* will sell yourselves to your* enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen and no man will buy you*.

²⁰ Jehovah will not pardon him, but then the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will smoke against that man and all the curse that is written in this book will lie upon him and Jehovah will blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And Jehovah will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

¹⁵ See, I have set before you this day life and good and death and evil, ¹⁶ in that I command you this day to love Jehovah your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply and that Jehovah your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.
¹⁷ But if your heart turns away and you will not hear, but will be drawn away and worship other gods and serve them, ¹⁸ I declare to you* this day, that you* will surely perish. You* will not prolong your* days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.
¹⁹ I call heaven and earth to witness against you* this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed, ²⁰ to love Jehovah your God, to obey his voice and to cling to him, for he is your life and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give them.

¹⁰ And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, ¹¹ when all Israel has come to appear before Jehovah your God in the place which he will choose, you will read this law before all Israel in their hearing.
¹² Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones and your traveler who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your* God and observe to do all the words of this law,

² And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read in it before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and of those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

³ And they stood up in their place and read in the book of the law of Jehovah their God a fourth part of the day and another fourth part they confessed and worshiped Jehovah their God.

³⁸ And a mixed multitude also went up with them and flocks and herds, even very much cattle.

² You* will not add to the word which I command you*, neither will you* diminish from it, that you* may keep the commandments of Jehovah your* God which I command you*.

¹¹ your* little ones, your* wives and your traveler who is in the midst of your camps, from the hewer of your wood to the drawer of your water–

¹ Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children, for the people wept very much.

² And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

² Jehovah says thus: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them, diminish not a word.

¹⁶ Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the old men. Gather the sons and those who suck the breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber and the bride out of her closet.

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, Allow the little children to come to me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

²⁷ For I did not retreat back from proclaiming to you the whole plan of God.

⁵ Now when it happened for us to finish the days there, we came out and were traveling on, and they all, together with their wives and children, sent us onward until we were outside the city, and having placed the knees down upon the beach, we prayed,
