¹ Now it happened, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah and to Geshem the Arabian and to the rest of our enemies, that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it, (though even to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates), ² that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
³ And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you*? ⁴ And they sent to me four times after this sort and I answered them after the same manner.
⁵ Then Sanballat sent his servant to me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand ⁶ in which was written, It is reported among the nations and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews think to rebel, for which cause you are building the wall. And you would be their king according to these words.
⁷ And you have also appointed prophets to preach of you at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah. And now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore and let us take counsel together.
⁸ Then I sent to him, saying, There are no such things done as you say, but you imagine them out of your own heart. ⁹ For they all would have made us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened from the work that it not be done. But now, O God, strengthen you my hands.
¹⁰ And I went to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabel, who was shut up and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple and let us shut the doors of the temple. For they will come to kill you, yes, they will come to kill you in the night. ¹¹ And I said, Should such a man as I flee? And who is there, that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
¹² And I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me and Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ For this cause he was hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
¹⁴ Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets, who would have put me in fear.
¹⁵ So the wall was finished in the twenty-fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty-two days. ¹⁶ And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, that all the nations that were around us feared and were much cast down in their own eyes, for they perceived that this work was worked of our God.
¹⁷ Moreover in those days the ranking men of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah and the letters of Tobiah came to them. ¹⁸ For there were many in Judah sworn to him because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah as a wife. ¹⁹ Also they spoke of his good deeds before me and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

¹⁰ And when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there came a man to seek the welfare of the sons of Israel.

¹⁹ But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn and despised us and said, What is this thing that you* do? Will you* rebel against the king?

¹ Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests and they built the sheep gate. They made it holy and set up the doors of it, even to the Tower of Hundred they made it holy, to the Tower of Hananel.

³ And the sons of Hassenaah built the fish gate. They laid the beams of it and set up the doors of it, the bolts of it and the bars of it.

⁶ And the old gate Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah repaired. They laid the beams of it and set up the doors of it and the bolts of it and the bars of it.

¹ But it happened that, when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and took great indignation and mocked the Jews.

⁶ So we built the wall and all the wall was joined together to half the height of it, for the people had a mind to work.
⁷ But it happened that, when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabians and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites, heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem went forward, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very angry,

²⁵ Know therefore and discern, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the anointed one, the Prince, will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks. It will be built again, with street and moat, even in troublesome times.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly and killed* him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with you, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

¹² And the sons of Elpaal: Eber and Misham and Shemer, who built Ono and Lod, with the towns of it,

³⁵ Lod and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.

² They speak falsehood everyone with his neighbor. They speak with a flattering lip and with a double heart.

¹² The wicked man plots against the righteous man and gnashes upon him with his teeth.

³² A wicked man watches a righteous man and seeks to kill him.

²⁴ He who hates masquerades with his lips, but he lays up deceit within him. ²⁵ Because he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
²⁶ Though his hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness will be openly shown before the assembly.

⁴ Then I saw all labor and every skillful work, that a man is envied for this by his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

² Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him, arose and killed* Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

⁴ The best of them is as a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come. Now will be their perplexity.
⁵ Trust you* not in a neighbor. Put you* not confidence in a friend. Keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.

¹⁹ And the high-priests and the scribes sought to put hands upon him in that same hour and yet they feared the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable to them.


²⁰ And having observed him, they sent forth agents, who themselves pretended to be righteous, in order that they might grab him from his speech, that they might give him to the rule and the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach correctly, and do not accept the countenance of men, but in truth, are teaching the way of God.

¹⁵ A simple man believes every word, but the prudent man looks well to his going.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do with your might, because there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you go.

¹⁶ Behold, I am sending you forth like sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore, become prudent like serpents and harmless like doves.

³⁰ saying, This one began to build and was not strong-enough to complete.

⁴ It is essential for me to work the works of the one who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one is able to work.

¹⁵ Meditate on these things; be diligent in them; in order that your progress may be apparent to all. ¹⁶ Take-heed to yourself and to the teaching. Abide in these things; for while practicing this, you will be saving both yourself and those who hear you.

⁶ And Delilah said to Samson, I beseech you, tell me in what your great strength lies and with what you might be bound to afflict you.

¹⁰ And Delilah said to Samson, Behold, you have mocked me and told me lies. I beseech you, now tell me with what you might be bound.

¹⁵ And she said to him, How can you say, I love you, when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times and have not told me with what your great strength lies.
¹⁶ And it happened, when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was distressed to death. ¹⁷ And he told her all his heart and said to her, There has not come a razor upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will go from me and I will become weak and be like any other man.
¹⁸ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand. ¹⁹ And she made him sleep upon her knees and she called for a man and shaved off the seven locks of his head. And she began to afflict him and his strength went from him.
²⁰ And she said, The Philistines are upon you, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep and said, I will go out as at other times and shake myself free, but he did not know that Jehovah was departed from him.

²¹ She causes him to yield with her much fair speech. She forces him along with the flattering of her lips.

⁵ yet because this widow is harassing me, I will avenge her, in order that she may not pester me, coming often for an end of her opponent.

⁵⁸ So-then my beloved brethren, become grounded, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not empty in the Lord.

⁵ to whom, even for an hour, we did not yield to their subjection; in order that the truth of the good-news might remain with you.

²⁶ Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah and Shebnah and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, I beseech you, speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. And do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people who are on the wall. ²⁷ But Rabshakeh said to them, Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own manure and to drink their own urine with you*?
²⁸ Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

¹¹ in order that we should not be taken-advantage of by the Adversary; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, workers of treachery, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And it is not a marvelous thing; for even the Adversary fashions himself into a messenger of light. ¹⁵ Therefore, it is no great thing if his servants are also fashioned like servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

¹¹ Clothe yourselves with the full-armor of God, that you may be able to stand up to the schemes of the devil.

¹⁰ and in all deception of unrighteousness in those who are perishing, because they did not accept the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹² Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and the evil city and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations.

¹⁵ that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers. So you will find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful to kings and provinces. And that they have made sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was laid waste.

¹ Now it happened, when it was reported to Sanballat and Tobiah and to Geshem the Arabian and to the rest of our enemies, that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it, (though even to that time I had not set up the doors in the gates), ² that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.
⁴ You* take heed each one of his neighbor and trust you* not in any brother, for every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will go about with gossipers. ⁵ And they will deceive each one his neighbor and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They inwardly set up an ambush. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit. Through deceit they refuse to know me, says Jehovah.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall. Perhaps he will be persuaded and we will prevail against him and we will take our revenge on him.

¹¹ You are fortunate whenever they reproach and persecute you and say every evil word against you–lying, because of me.

² Now they began to accuse him, saying, We found this one perverting the nation and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.

¹³ Therefore when Pilate heard this word, he led Jesus outside and sat down upon the judicial-seat in a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

⁸ And why not say : Let us do evil, in order that good things should come (just-like we are blasphemed and just-like some say that we speak blasphemies?) Whose condemnation is just!

⁸ through glory and dishonor, through defamation and good-repute; as misleaders and yet true;

¹² having your good conduct seen among the Gentiles; in order that, in what they are speaking against you, as evildoers, they may glorify God in the day of visitation, having eye-witnessed things from your good works.
¹³ Therefore be subject to every human creation because of the Lord: whether to the king, as being superior to you;

¹⁶ having a good conscience; in order that, in what they are speaking against you as evildoers, they may be ashamed who are railing at your good conduct in Christ.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you* hear the sound of the trumpet, then you* will say, Absalom is king in Hebron. ¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem who were invited and went in their simplicity. And they did not know anything.
¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

⁷ And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest. And following Adonijah, they helped him.

¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns and you, my lord the king, do not know it.

²⁵ For he has gone down this day and has slain oxen and fatten sheep and sheep in abundance and has called all the king's sons and the captains of the army and Abiathar the priest. And behold, they are eating and drinking before him and say, Live, king Adonijah.

³⁴ And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. And blow you* the trumpet and say, Live, king Solomon.

¹² And I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me and Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ For this cause he was hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

¹⁵ Therefore now, you, together with the council, disclose it to the commander that he should be led to you the next-day, as if being about to investigate more accurately the things concerning him. Now we are ready to assassinate him before he draws near.

⁴ But you* are forgers of lies. You* are all physicians of no value.

³ The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

¹² Those also who seek after my life lay snares for me. And those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things and meditate deceits all the day long.

² Your tongue devises wickedness, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ No man sues in righteousness and no man pleads in truth. They trust in vanity and speak lies. They conceive mischief and bring forth wickedness.

²⁷ And as for both these kings, their hearts will be to do mischief and they will speak lies at one table. But it will not prosper, for yet the end will be at the time appointed.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How are you, being evil, able to speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking.

⁴⁴ You are from your father, the devil, and you to do the lusts of your father. That one was a murderer from the beginning and is not standing in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own things, because he is a liar and the father of it.

¹² and they did not find me reasoning angrily with anyone, or making a hostile gathering of the crowd in the temple, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city, ¹³ nor are they able to present things concerning me, of which they are now accusing me.

⁷ Now when he came, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many and cruel accusations against Paul, which they were not strong-enough to show.

¹⁰ But Paul said, I am standing in front of Caesar’s judicial-seat, where it is essential for me to be judged. I did not wrong the Jews, as you also fully well know.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters. But David strengthened himself in Jehovah his God.

⁷ But be you* strong and do not let your* hands be slack. For your* work will be rewarded.

¹⁸ And they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.

¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity were building a temple to Jehovah, the God of Israel, ² then they drew near to Zerubbabel and to the heads of fathers and said to them, Let us build with you*, for we seek your* God, as you* do and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us up here.
³ But Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of fathers of Israel, said to them, You* have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God, but we ourselves together will build to Jehovah, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.
⁴ Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building, ⁵ and hired counselors against them to frustrate their purpose all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. ⁶ And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
⁷ And in the days of Artaxerxes, Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel and the rest of his companions, wrote to Artaxerxes king of Persia. And the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian character and set forth in the Syrian tongue. ⁸ Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this way.
⁹ Then wrote Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites and the Apharsathchites, the men of Erech, the Babylonians, the men of Susa, (that is the Elamites), ¹⁰ and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over and set in the city of Samaria and in the rest beyond the River and so forth.
¹¹ This is a copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes the king:
Your servants the men beyond the River and so forth. ¹² Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem. They are building the rebellious and the evil city and have finished the walls and repaired the foundations. ¹³ Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.
¹⁴ Now because we eat the salt of the palace and it is not fitting for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore we have sent and certified to the king, ¹⁵ that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers. So you will find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful to kings and provinces. And that they have made sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was laid waste.
¹⁶ We certify to the king that, if this city be built and the walls finished, by this means you will have no portion beyond the River.
¹⁷ Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor and to Shimshai the scribe and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Samaria and in the rest beyond the River:
Peace and so forth. ¹⁸ The letter which you* sent to us has been plainly read before me. ¹⁹ And I decreed and search has been made. And it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. ²⁰ There have also been mighty kings over Jerusalem who have ruled over all the country beyond the River and tribute, custom and toll, was paid to them.
²¹ You* make now a decree to cause these men to cease and that this city not be built until a decree will be made by me. ²² And take heed that you* are not slack in this matter. Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
²³ Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum and Shimshai the scribe and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews and made them cease by force and power. ²⁴ Then the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem ceased and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

¹⁰ And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens has become feeble and there is much rubbish, so that we are not able to build the wall. ¹¹ And our adversaries said, They will not know, neither see, till we come into the midst of them and kill them and cause the work to cease.
¹² And it happened that, when the Jews who dwelt by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places from where you* will return to us they will be upon you*.
¹³ Therefore I set in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in the open places, I set there the people after their families with their swords, their spears and their bows.
¹⁴ And I looked and rose up and said to the ranking men and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome and fight for your* brothers, your* sons and your* daughters, your* wives and your* houses.

¹⁴ Remember, O my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets, who would have put me in fear.

³ I am afraid in the day, I will put my trust in you.

³⁵ O God, awesome out of your holy places, the God of Israel, he gives strength and power to his people. Praise God.

¹ I take refuge in you, O Jehovah. Do not let me be put to shame everlasting.

³ You answered me in the day that I called. You encouraged me with strength in my soul.

³ Strengthen you* the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to those who are of a fearful heart, Be strong, do not fear. Behold, your* God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you*.

¹⁰ Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

⁴ Then the rulers said to the king, Please let this man be put to death, inasmuch as he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them. For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

¹² And I will strengthen them in Jehovah and they will walk up and down in his name, says Jehovah.

⁹ And he has said to me, My grace is enough for you; for my power is completed in weakness. Therefore I will rather gladly be boasting in my weaknesses, in order that the power of the Christ might reside upon me.

¹⁶ in order that he may give to you, according to the riches of his glory, to be powerful with his power, through his Spirit in the inward man;

¹⁰ Furthermore, my brethren, be empowered in the Lord and in the dominion of his strength.

¹³ I am strong in all things in the Christ, who is empowering me.

¹² Hence straighten the drooping hands and the paralyzed knees;

¹⁰ But the God of all grace, who called you to his everlasting glory in Christ Jesus, when you have suffered a small time, he himself may frame you up, will establish, will strengthen and will found you.

⁵ And against the wall of the house he built stories all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the oracle. And he made side-chambers all around.

⁸ For the whole house of Ahab will perish. And I will cut off from Ahab every one who urinates on the wall and he who is shut up and he who is left at large in Israel.

³ And he was with her hidden in the house of Jehovah six years. And Athaliah reigned over the land.

²⁴ And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God and shut up the doors of the house of Jehovah. And he made altars for him in every corner of Jerusalem.

³ In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of Jehovah and repaired them.

⁷ Also they have shut up the doors of the porch and put out the lamps and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel.

¹⁶ Then I sent for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah and for Elnathan and for Jarib and for Elnathan and for Nathan and for Zechariah and for Meshullam, chief men, also for Joiarib and for Elnathan, who were teachers.

³¹ And of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

¹² And I discerned, and behold, God had not sent him, but he pronounced this prophecy against me and Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

¹³ These are of those who rebel against the light. They do not know the ways of it, nor abide in the paths of it. ¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. And in the night he is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye will see me. And he disguises his face.
¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They do not know the light. ¹⁷ For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness. For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

² Deliver my soul, O Jehovah, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
³ What will be given to you and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue?

⁹ The hypocrite destroys his neighbor with his mouth, but the righteous will be delivered through knowledge.

⁵ And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up. I cannot go into the house of Jehovah.

²⁴ Then the Spirit entered into me and set me upon my feet. And he spoke with me and said to me, Go, shut yourself within your house.

¹⁰ Oh that there was among you* who would shut the doors, that you* might not kindle my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you*, says Jehovah of hosts, nor will I accept an offering at your* hand.

¹⁵ But take-heed, stay away from false prophets, who are coming to you in sheep’s clothing, but inside are ravenous wolves.

²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him.

³⁰ Now the whole city was moved and there happened to be a running of the people together, and grabbing Paul, they were dragging him outside the temple and immediately the doors were locked.

⁷ And why do you* discourage the heart of the sons of Israel from going over into the land which Jehovah has given them? ⁸ Thus did your* fathers when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. ⁹ For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel, that they should not go into the land which Jehovah had given them.

⁵ For he put his life in his hand and killed* the Philistine and Jehovah worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?

³ And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you*?

⁹ For they all would have made us afraid, saying, Their hands will be weakened from the work that it not be done. But now, O God, strengthen you my hands.

³ Behold, you have instructed many and you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have upheld him who was falling and you have made firm the feeble knees.
⁵ But now it comes to you and you faint. It touches you and you are troubled.
⁶ Is not your fear of God your confidence, the integrity of your ways your hope?

¹ I take refuge in Jehovah. How will you* say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your* mountain.
² Because, behold, the wicked bend the bow. They make ready their arrow upon the string that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.

⁶ because he will never be moved. The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.

⁸ His heart is established, he will not be afraid, even until he looks over his adversaries.

¹ A wicked man flees when no man pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹ Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to send forth an evil odor, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.

¹⁸ And he will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. And it will be as when a standard-bearer faints.

³¹ Some Pharisees came in that same day, saying to him, Come out and travel from here, because Herod wishes to kill you.
³² And he said to them, Travel to and say to that fox, Behold, I cast out demons and perform healings today and the next-day and I am completed in the third day. ³³ However it is essential for me to travel on today and the next-day and in the next day, because it is not acceptable for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.

¹ Now Saul was consenting to the assassination of him.
Now there became a great persecution in that day upon the congregation which was in Jerusalem, and they were all dispersed throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

²⁴ But I make account of nothing, nor am I holding my life as precious to myself, as I desire to complete my course with joy, and the service which I received from the Lord Jesus, to thoroughly testify the good-news of the favor of God.

¹³ But Paul answered, What are you doing, weeping and crushing my heart? For I am not only ready to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem on behalf of the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁷ But even if I am a drink-offering upon the sacrifice and ministry of your faith, I am rejoicing, and even rejoicing together with you all.

³⁰ because he drew near almost as far as death, because of the work of the Christ, having disregarded his life in order that he might fill the lack in your ministry toward me.

²⁷ In faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the fury of the king; for he persevered, as seeing the invisible one.

¹¹ Yes, the dogs are greedy; they can never have enough. And these are shepherds who cannot understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, nor have I commanded them, nor did I speak to them. They prophesy to you* a lying vision and divination and a thing of nothing and the deceit of their own heart.

¹⁶ Jehovah of hosts says thus: Listen not to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you*. They teach you* vanity. They speak a vision of their own heart and not out of the mouth of Jehovah.

²⁵ I have heard what the prophets have said, who prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah. Jehovah has not sent you, but you make this people to trust in a lie.

⁷ Have you* not seen a false vision and have you* not spoken a lying divination, in that you* say, Jehovah says, But I have not spoken?

¹⁹ And you* have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your* lying to my people who listen to lies.

²² Because with lies you* have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way and be saved alive.

¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us.

³³ I coveted no one’s silver or gold or garment.

¹⁵ But the spiritual one is indeed examining all things, but he himself is examined by no one.

¹⁰ and workings of miracles to another; and prophecy to another; and the discernings of spirits to another; varieties of languages to a different one; and the translation of foreign languages to another;

³ not a drunkard, not a bully, not covetous, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a money-lover;

⁷ For it is essential for the overseer to be irreproachable as God’s steward; not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not a drunkard, not a bully, not covetous;

² Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising the oversight, not by compulsion, but willfully, nor covetously, but eagerly;

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

¹³ and cinnamon, spice, incenses, perfume, frankincense, wine, oil, fine-flour, grain, sheep, other animals, and of horses and of chariots and of bodies and souls of men.

⁶ in which was written, It is reported among the nations and Gashmu says it, that you and the Jews think to rebel, for which cause you are building the wall. And you would be their king according to these words.

¹ A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his steps.

¹ A good name is better than precious oil and the day of death, than the day of birth.

⁷ Listen to me, you* who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not fear the reproach of men, nor be you* dismayed at their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am he who comforts you*. Who are you, that you are afraid of man who will die and of the son of man who will be made as grass, ¹³ and have forgotten Jehovah your maker, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth and fear continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹¹ And of whom have you been afraid and in fear, that you lie and have not remembered me, nor laid it to your heart? Have I not held my peace even of long time and you do not fear me?

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins and arise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

¹⁸ Then they said, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah. For the law will not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come and let us kill* him with the tongue and let us not give heed to any of his words.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you dwell among scorpions. Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

¹⁷ And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart and prophesy you against them. ¹⁸ And say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Woe to the women who sew pillows upon all elbows and make headdresses for the head of every stature to hunt souls!
Will you* hunt the souls of my people and save souls alive for yourselves? ¹⁹ And you* have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your* lying to my people who listen to lies.
²⁰ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against your* pillows, with which you* hunt the souls there to make fly and I will tear them from your* arms. And I will let the souls go, even the souls that you* hunt to make fly. ²¹ I will also tear your* headdresses and deliver my people out of your* hand and they will no more be in your* hand to be hunted.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.
²² Because with lies you* have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way and be saved alive. ²³ Therefore you* will no more see false visions, nor divine divinations. And I will deliver my people out of your* hand.
And you* will know that I am Jehovah.

⁴ Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no occasion nor fault, inasmuch as he was faithful, nor was there any error or fault found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, We will not find any occasion against this Daniel unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees traveled away and took counsel on how they might ensnare him in his speech.

⁵⁹ Now the high-priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus, how they might slay him;

¹³ And false witnesses stood up, who said, This man is not ceasing to speak blasphemous declarations against this holy place and the law;

¹² But what I am doing, I will also continue to be doing it in order that I may cut off the starting-point from those who wish for a starting-point in order that they may be found just-as we in what they are boasting.

¹⁴ Therefore I will the younger widows to marry, to be childbearing, to manage the house, to never give a starting-point to those who lay in opposition to them because of reviling:

⁷ For God did not give to us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and love and self-discipline.

⁸ sound speech which is not condemnable; in order that the adverse one might be embarrassed, having no evil thing to say concerning us.

¹⁷ Therefore knowing to do good and not doing it, to him, it is sin.

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and sinners and detestable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and to all the false witnesses, their part will be in the lake which is burning with fire and brimstone; which is the second death.

²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You will entice him and will also prevail. Go forth and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you.
²⁴ Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and killed* Micaiah on the cheek and said, Which way did the Spirit of Jehovah go from me to speak to you?

⁴ Hear, O our God, for we are despised and so turn back their reproach upon their own head and give them up for a spoil in a land of captivity, ⁵ and do not cover their iniquity and do not let their sin be blotted out from before you, for they have provoked you to anger before the builders.

¹⁹ Remember to me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.

²⁹ Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites.

¹ My God, my God, why have you forsaken me, far from helping me and the words of my groaning?

¹¹ Do not let the foot of pride come against me and do not let the hand of sinners drive me away. ¹² The workers of unrighteousness have fallen there. They are thrust down and will not be able to rise.

¹ O God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where is no water.

⁵ The proud have hid a snare for me and cords. They have spread a net by the wayside. They have set snares for me. Selah.
⁶ I said to Jehovah, You are my God. Listen to the voice of my supplications, O Jehovah.
⁷ O Jehovah the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.
⁸ Do not grant, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked man. Do not further his evil device. They exalt themselves. Selah.
⁹ As for the head of those who encompass me around, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. ¹⁰ Let burning coals shake down upon them. Let them be cast into the fire, into deep pits, from where they will not rise.
¹¹ An evil speaker will not be established in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

¹⁴ Therefore Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day. ¹⁵ The elder and the honorable man, he is the head. And the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

²⁰ But, O Jehovah of hosts, who judges righteously, who tries the heart and the mind, I will see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my case.
²¹ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You will not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, that you not die by our hand. ²² Therefore Jehovah of hosts says thus: Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine, ²³ and there will be no remnant to them. For I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

¹⁵ Therefore Jehovah says thus concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name and I did not send them, yet they say, Sword and famine will not be in this land: By sword and famine those prophets will be consumed.

¹⁸ If I go forth into the field, then, behold, the slain with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then, behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land and have no knowledge.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.
²¹ Therefore deliver up their sons to the famine and give them over to the power of the sword and let their wives become childless and widows and let their men be slain of death and their young men struck of the sword in battle. ²² Let a cry be heard from their houses when you will bring a troop suddenly upon them, for they have dug a pit to take me and hid snares for my feet.
²³ Yet, Jehovah, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Do not forgive their iniquity, nor blot out their sin from your sight, but let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.

¹ And it happened the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of Jehovah, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it.

¹⁶ namely, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and who see visions of peace for her and there is no peace, says the lord Jehovah.
¹⁷ And you, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart and prophesy you against them.

¹¹ And many false prophets will arise and will be misleading many.

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will be giving great signs and wonders; so-then to mislead, if possible, even the chosen.

⁸ Now in the manner that Jannes and Jambres stood against Moses so also, are these standing against the truth. Men having been utterly corrupted in their mind, unapproved concerning the faith.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith showed to ward me many evils. May the Lord give to him according to his works; ¹⁵ whom you also, guard yourself against; for he is exceedingly standing against our words.

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother sinning ^{F} a sin not to death, he will ask and God will be giving him life for those who are not sinning to death. There is a sin to death. I do not say that he should ask concerning that.

²⁰ And the beast was clutched and with him the false prophet who made the signs in his sight, in which he misled those who had received the mark of the beast and those who are worshiping his image. The two were cast while living into the lake of fire which is burning in brimstone.

¹⁵ And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

¹ But it happened that, when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and took great indignation and mocked the Jews. ² And he spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, seeing they are burnt?

³ And he will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. And whatever he does will prosper.

²⁵ And he took off their chariot wheels and they drove them with difficulty, so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel, because Jehovah fights for them against the Egyptians.

²³ Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob, neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it will be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God worked!

¹ And it happened, when all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the sons of Israel until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the sons of Israel.

⁷ But it happened that, when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabians and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites, heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem went forward, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very angry,

² Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, Jehovah has done great things for them.

³⁸ And hereafter I say to you, Withdraw from these men and permit them to continue, because if this plan or this work is from men, it will be torn-down;

⁵ And next to them the Tekoites repaired, but their ranking men did not put their necks to the work of their lord.

⁷ Then I consulted with myself and contended with the ranking men and the rulers and said to them, You* exact usury, everyone of his brother. And I held a great assembly against them.

²⁸ And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I chased him from me.

¹ Woe is me! For I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape gleanings of the vintage. There is no cluster to eat. My soul desires the first ripe fig.
² The devout man has perished out of the earth and there is none upright among men. They all lie in wait for blood. They hunt every man his brother with a net. ³ Their hands are upon what is evil to do it diligently. The ruler asks and the judge asks for a bribe. And the great man, he utters the evil desire of his soul. Thus they weave it together.
⁴ The best of them is as a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come. Now will be their perplexity.
⁵ Trust you* not in a neighbor. Put you* not confidence in a friend. Keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom. ⁶ For the son dishonors the father. The daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's enemies are the men of his own house.

¹⁰ And then many will be offended, and will be giving up one another and will be hating one another. ¹¹ And many false prophets will arise and will be misleading many. ¹² And because lawlessness will be multiplied, the love of the many will be cold.

⁵ The sons of Arah, seven hundred seventy-five.

⁴ And next to them Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz repaired.
And next to them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel repaired.
And next to them Zadok the son of Baana repaired.

³⁰ After him Hananiah the son of Shelemiah and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another portion.
After him Meshullam the son of Berechiah repaired opposite his chamber.

¹⁰ the sons of Arah, six hundred fifty-two;

¹³ For this cause he was hired, that I should be afraid and do so and sin and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but such as keep the law contend with them.

¹⁰ Thus will you* speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹¹ Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. And will you be delivered?
¹² Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden who were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arpad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena and Ivvah?
¹⁴ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. And Hezekiah went up to the house of Jehovah and spread it before Jehovah.

⁷ The world is not able to hate you, but it hates me, because I am testifying concerning it, that its works are evil.

¹⁹ If you were from the world, the world would love its own, but because you are not from the world, but I chose you out of the world, the world is hating you because of this.

¹⁸ And they called them back and commanded them not to speak nor teach to any in the name of Jesus.
¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, Judge for yourselves if it is righteous in God’s sight to listen to you rather than to God. ²⁰ For we are not able to speak, but the things which we saw and heard. ²¹ But having additionally threatened them, they released them, finding nothing as to how they will punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for what has happened.

⁵ They are from the world; because of this they speak as from the world and the world hears them.
