²² and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy. For Jehovah had made them joyful and had turned the heart of the king of Assyria to them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.

²⁷ Praise Jehovah, the God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem, ²⁸ and has extended loving kindness to me before the king and his counselors and before all the king's mighty rulers. And I was strengthened according to the hand of Jehovah my God upon me and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

¹¹ O Lord, I beseech you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name, and I beseech you, prosper your servant this day and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.
Now I was cupbearer to the king.

⁴ Then the king said to me, For what do you make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.

¹⁵ You split fountain and flood. You dried up mighty rivers.

⁴ Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, Jehovah on high is mighty.

²⁵ He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal craftily with his servants.

⁴⁶ He also made them to be pitied by all those who carried them captive.

³ The sea saw it and fled. The Jordan was driven back.

⁵ What is it to you, O you the sea, that you flee? You Jordan, that you turn back?

¹ The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.

⁹ A man's heart devises his way, but Jehovah directs his steps.

²⁴ A man's goings are of Jehovah, how then can man understand his way?

¹⁹ Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it will spring forth. Shall you* not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

²⁷ who says to the deep, Be dry and I will dry up your rivers,

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing and he does according to his will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. And none can stay his hand, or say to him, What are you doing?

¹⁰ and liberated him from all his afflictions and gave him favor and wisdom in front of Pharaoh king of Egypt, who designated him leader over Egypt and his whole house.

⁴ And the third messenger poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of the waters, and it became blood.

¹² And the sixth poured out his bowl upon the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, in order that the way of the kings who come from the rising of the sun might be prepared.

⁷ But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his countenance, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For Jehovah sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

² Because he flatters himself in his own eyes, that his iniquity will not be found out and be hated.

² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but Jehovah weighs the spirits.

²⁵ There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end of it are the ways of death.

⁶ Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness, but a faithful man who can find?

¹² If you say, Behold, we did not know this, Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it? And he who keeps your soul, does he not know it? And will not he render to every man according to his work?

¹² There is a generation who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not washed from their filthiness.

¹⁰ I, Jehovah, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his practices.

¹⁵ And he said to them, You are those who are making yourselves righteous in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts, because what is exalted among men is an abomination in God’s sight.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and was praying these things with himself, God, I give-thanks to you, that I am not like the rest of men: swindlers, unrighteous, adulterers or just-like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice in the week; I tithe of all things, as many things as I procure.

²⁴ But Jesus himself was not entrusting himself to them, because he knew all men, \ulnone\nosupersub ²⁵ and because he had no need that anyone should testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

³ For if anyone thinks himself to be something, being nothing, he is deceiving himself.

²² But become doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves.

²³ And I will be killing her children with death, and all the congregations will know that I am he who is searching the kidneys and hearts and I will be giving to you, each one according to your works.

²² And Samuel said, Has Jehovah as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to listen than the fat of rams.

⁸ I will not reprove you for your sacrifices and your burnt offerings being continually before me.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹¹ What to me is the multitude of your* sacrifices? says Jehovah. I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. And I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of male-goats. ¹² When you* come to appear before me, who has required this at your* hand–to trample my courts?
¹³ Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies–I cannot bear wickedness and the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your* new moons and your* appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash you*, make you* clean, put away the evil of your* practices from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do good. Seek justice, make the oppressed fortunate, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²¹ Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Add your* burnt offerings to your* sacrifices and eat you* flesh. ²² For I spoke not to your* fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices.
²³ But this thing I commanded them, saying, Listen to my voice and I will be your* God and you* will be my people. And walk you* in all the way that I command you*, that it may be well with you*.

⁶ For I desire mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

⁶ With what shall I come before Jehovah and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? ⁷ Will Jehovah be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
⁸ He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does Jehovah require of you, but to do justly and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?

³³ and to love him from the whole heart and from the whole intelligence and from the whole soul and from the whole strength and to love his neighbor like himself, is more-than all the whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

⁴ The wicked man, in the pride of his countenance, says, He will not require it. All his thoughts are, There is no God.

¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹³ The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil. I hate: pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination. Much more when he brings it with a wicked mind!

¹³ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes and their eyelids are lifted up.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man will be brought low and the haughtiness of men will be bowed down and Jehovah alone will be exalted in that day.

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man will be bowed down and the haughtiness of men will be brought low and Jehovah alone will be exalted in that day.

¹⁶ Moreover Jehovah said, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty and walk with outstretched necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go and making a tinkling with their feet,

¹⁴ I say to you, This one went down to his house, having been made righteous rather than that man, because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, but he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

²³ But he who is doubting has been condemned if he eats, because he does not eat out of faith, and everything which is not from faith is sin.

⁵ Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’

⁴ He who works with a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires and has nothing, but the soul of the diligent will be made fat.

²⁹ He who is slow to anger is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

²¹ An inheritance gotten hastily at the beginning will not be praised in the end.

²³ Be diligent to know the state of your flocks and look well to your herds. ²⁴ Because riches are not everlasting. And does the crown endure to all generations?
²⁵ The hay is carried and the tender grass shows itself and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in. ²⁶ The lambs are for your clothing and the goats are the cost of the field. ²⁷ And then will be goats' milk enough for your food; for the food of your household and maintenance for your maidens.

²² He who has an evil eye hastens after riches and does not know that want will come upon him.

²⁸ Let the one who steals, steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working at what is the good thing with his hands, in order that he may have something to give to the one who has need.

¹¹ and that you make it your aim to be living quiet lives and to do your own things, and to work with your own hands (just-as we commanded you), ¹² in order that you may walk decently toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.

³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul.
All those who hate me love death.

² Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

¹¹ Wealth from vanity will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will have increase.

¹⁴ It is bad, it is bad, says the buyer, but when he has gone his way, then he boasts.

⁸ He who sows unrighteousness will reap calamity and the rod of his wrath will fail.

⁸ Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me,

¹¹ As the partridge that sits on eggs which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches and not by right. In the midst of his days they will leave him and at his end he will be a fool.

³¹ Cast away from you* all your* transgressions, by which you* have transgressed and make you* a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you* die, O house of Israel?

⁹ But those who are planning to be rich are falling into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, which are submerging men into utter-destruction and everlasting destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils; of which some aspiring to, have been misled from the faith and they themselves are staked-through by many sorrows.

¹¹ whom it is essential to gag; men who are perverting whole houses, teaching things which they ought not teach, because of shameful gain.

³ And in their greed, they will be merchants of you with fabricated words; to whom the condemnation from long-ago is not idle, and their destruction will not be slumbering.

¹⁶ His mischief will return upon his own head and his violence will come down upon his own scalp.

¹⁶ Jehovah has made himself known. He has executed justice. The wicked man is snared in the work of his own hands. A meditation. Selah.

¹⁸ and these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.
¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who is greedy of gain. It takes away the life of the owners of it.

⁶ Blessings are upon the head of a righteous man, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

²¹ He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness and honor.

²² Do not rob a poor man, because he is poor, nor oppress an afflicted man in the gate. ²³ Because Jehovah will plead their cause and despoil of life those who despoil them.

²³ Your rulers are rebellious and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes and follows after rewards. They judge not the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow come to them.
²⁴ Therefore says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of my adversaries and avenge me of my enemies.

⁹ Will you* steal, murder and commit adultery and swear falsely and burn incense to Baal and walk after other gods that you* have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name and say, We are delivered, that you* may do all these abominations?
¹¹ Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your* eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.

¹⁵ And I will cast you* out of my sight, as I have cast out all your* brothers, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

¹⁸ As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother and did what is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity.

¹³ Behold, therefore, I have struck my hand at your dishonest gain which you have made and at your blood which has been in the midst of you.
¹⁴ Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, Jehovah, have spoken it and will do it.

⁹ Hear this, I beseech you*, you* heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood and Jerusalem with unrighteousness. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for a bribe and the priests of it teach for a wage and the prophets of it divine for money.
Yet they lean upon Jehovah and say, Is not Jehovah in the midst of us? No evil will come upon us. ¹² Therefore for your* sake Zion will be plowed as a field and Jerusalem will become heaps and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

³ Then he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole land. For everyone who steals will be cut off on the one side according to it and everyone who swears will be cut off on the other side according to it. ⁴ I will cause it to go forth, says Jehovah of hosts and it will enter into the house of the thief and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name. And it will abide in the midst of his house and will consume it, with the timber of it and the stones of it.

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words; for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.

⁵ And Jehovah saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only continually evil. ⁶ And Jehovah regretted that he had made man on the earth and it grieved him in his heart.

¹² And God saw the earth and behold, it was corrupt, because all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? And he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? ¹⁵ Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones. Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight. ¹⁶ How much less one who is abominable and morally-corrupt, a man who drinks unrighteousness like water!

² Jehovah looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there were any who understood, who sought after God. ³ They are all gone aside. They are morally-corrupt together. There is none who does good, no, not one.

¹⁵ who are crooked in their ways and wayward in their paths,

²⁶ Evil devices are an abomination to Jehovah, but pleasant words are pure.

²⁹ Behold, this only I have found: That God made man upright, but they have sought out many devices.

³ This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that there is one event to all.
Yes also, the heart of the sons of men is full of evil and madness is in their heart while they live and after that they go to the dead.

¹⁰ Many will purify themselves and make themselves white and be refined, but the wicked will do wickedly. And none of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

⁸ The clean in heart are fortunate, because they will be seeing God.

³³ Either make^*\'b0 the tree good and its fruit good; or make^*\'b0 the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for the tree is known from its fruit.

⁹ and he made no distinction between us and them in the faith, having cleansed their hearts.

³ for you are still fleshly. For where there is jealousy and strife and dissensions among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking according to the manner of man?

² in which you previously walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit which now is working in the sons of disobedience; ³ among whom we also all conducted ourselves previously in the lusts of our flesh, practicing the wills of the flesh and of the mind and we were children of wrath by nature, even as the rest.

¹⁵ Indeed, all things are clean to the clean, but nothing is clean to those who have been defiled and are unbelieving, but both their mind and their conscience have been defiled.

¹⁴ who gave himself on our behalf, in order that he might redeem us away from all lawlessness and might cleanse a treasured people for himself, zealous of good works.

³ For we were also previously foolish, disobedient, being misled, serving in various lusts and sensual-delights, leading lives in malice and envy, spiteful, hating one another.

⁵ he saved us (not from any works done in righteousness, which we practiced), but according to his mercy, through the full-washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience to the truth through the Spirit toward non-pretended brotherly-love, intensely love^*\'b0 one another from a clean heart; ²³ having been born again, not out of corruptible seed, but from the incorruptible, through the word of God, which is living and remaining forever.

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you also know that everyone who is practicing righteousness has been born from him.

³ And everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, just-as that man is pure.

⁴ A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but she who makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

¹⁷ Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted ox and hatred with it.

¹ Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it, than a house full of feasting with strife.

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and angry woman.

²⁴ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

¹⁵ A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. ¹⁶ He who would restrain her restrains the wind and his right hand encounters oil.

⁸ Ask your young men and they will tell you. Therefore let the young men find favor in your eyes, for we come in a good day. I beseech you, give whatever comes to your hand to your servants and to your son David.
⁹ And when David's young men came, they spoke to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David and ceased. ¹⁰ And Nabal answered David's servants and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants now-a-days who break away every man from his master. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread and my water and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers and give it to men of whom I do not know from where they are?

⁴ He devises iniquity upon his bed. He sets himself in a way that is not good. He does not reject evil.

² Your tongue devises wickedness, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
³ You love evil more than good and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

⁵ It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends. He will maintain his cause in judgment,

⁹ He has scattered, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

²⁹ Do not devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you.

¹² A wicked man desires the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous gives.

¹³ He who stops his ears at the cry of a poor man, he will also cry, but will not be heard.

⁶ For the fool will do senselessness and his heart will work wickedness, to practice profaneness and to utter error against Jehovah, to make empty the soul of the hungry and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. ⁷ And the instruments of the churl are evil. He devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right. ⁸ But a noble man devises noble things and in noble things he will continue.

² You* who hate the good and love the evil, who pluck off their skin from them and their flesh from their bones, ³ who also eat the flesh of my people and flay their skin from them and break their bones and chop them in pieces, as for the pot and as flesh within the caldron.

²¹ For evil reasonings travel from inside, out of the heart of men, such as : adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, ²² greedy-acts, wickednesses, treachery, unbridled-lusts, an evil eye, blasphemy, haughtiness, foolishness.

⁶ Now these things became our examples, that we should not be desirers of evil things, just-as they also lusted.

¹³ For the judgment is merciless to the one who has not practiced mercy; mercy wins over judgment.

¹ From where are the wars and quarrels among you come from? Is it not from here, from your own sensual-delights which are warring in your members? ² You lust and do not have; you murder and are jealous and are not able to obtain; you quarrel and make war; you do not have, because you are not asking. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order that you may spend it in your sensual-delights.
⁴ Adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever wills to be a friend of the world is designated as an enemy of God. ⁵ Or are you thinking that the Scripture speaks with emptiness? Does the Spirit who dwells in us long to envy?

⁴ Behold, the wages of the workers who mowed your farmlands, the wages which have been defrauded by you, are crying out against you and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ You have caroused upon the land and are self-indulgent; you have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter. ⁶ You have sentenced others, you murdered the righteous; there is no resisting in you.

¹⁶ Because all the things which are in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the self-importance of life, are not from the Father, but are from the world.

³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

¹¹ And all Israel will hear and fear and will no more do any such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.

²¹ And all the men of his city will stone him to death with stones. So you will put away the evil from the midst of you and all Israel will hear and fear.

⁷ But God will shoot at them. They will suddenly be wounded with an arrow. ⁸ So they will be made to stumble, their own tongue being against them. All who see them will wag the head.
⁹ And all men will fear. And they will declare the work of God and will wisely consider of his doing.

⁵ that the wise man may hear and increase in learning and that the man of understanding may attain to sound-wisdom,

⁹ Give opportunity to a wise man and he will be yet wiser. Teach a righteous man and he will increase in learning.

¹⁴ The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

¹ He who desires to separate himself seeks excuses and rages against all sound-wisdom.

¹⁵ The heart of a prudent man gets knowledge and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁵ Strike a scoffer and a simple man will learn prudence. And reprove he who has understanding and he will understand knowledge.

⁵ But Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and expired, and there became great fear upon all those who heard these things.

¹¹ Now there became great fear upon the whole congregation and upon all who are hearing these things.
¹² Now through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were happening among the people, and they were all united at Solomon’s porch. ¹³ But none of the rest were daring to join himself to them, but the people were extolling them; ¹⁴ and more believers, multitudes of both men and women, were added to the Lord;

⁶ Now these things became our examples, that we should not be desirers of evil things, just-as they also lusted. ⁷ Do not become idolaters, just-as some of them were; as it has been written, ‘The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.’ ⁸ Neither should we fornicate, like some of them fornicated, and twenty three thousand fell in one day. ⁹ Nor should we test the Christ, just-as some of them also tested him, and perished by the serpents. ¹⁰ Nor murmur, like some of them also murmured, and perished by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things are examples which were befalling to those Jews, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have arrived.

¹ Because of this, we ought to take-heed even-more to the things which were heard, lest we might drift away. ² For if the word spoken through the messengers became steadfast and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward; ³ how shall we flee, having neglected so-great a salvation, which having received at the beginning was spoken through the Lord, which was confirmed to us from those who heard it?

²⁸ Anyone who has rejected the Law of Moses, dies without mercy upon the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think he will be deemed worthy of, after having trampled under foot the Son of God, and having deemed the blood of the covenant in which he was made holy as common, and having insulted the Spirit of the grace?

¹³ And in that day there became a great earthquake and the tenth part of the city fell, and the names of seven thousand men were killed in the earthquake and the rest became fearful and gave glory to the God of heaven.

²⁹ And it happened, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain, that God remembered Abraham and that he sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

¹⁵ He will lean upon his house, but it will not stand. He will hold fast to it, but it will not endure.

¹⁴ He will be rooted out of his tent where he trusts and he will be brought to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ There will dwell in his tent what is none of his. Brimstone will be scattered upon his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots will be dried up beneath and above his limbs be will cut off.
¹⁷ His remembrance will perish from the earth and he will have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He will be driven from light into darkness and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He will have neither son nor son's son among his people, nor any remaining where he traveled. ²⁰ Those who come after will be astonished at his day, as those who went before were frightened.
²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the unrighteous and this is the place of him who does not know God.

²⁸ For you* say, Where is the house of the prince? And where is the tent in which the wicked dwelt?
²⁹ Have you* not asked wayfaring men? And do you* not know their evidences, ³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God and the heritage of oppressors, which they receive from the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his sons be multiplied, it is for the sword. And his offspring will not be satisfied with bread.
¹⁵ Those who remain of him will be buried in death and his widows will make no lamentation.
¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares garments as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just will put it on and the innocent will divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house as the moth and as a booth which the keeper makes.
¹⁹ He lies down rich, but he will not be gathered to his fathers. He opens his eyes and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like waters. A tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carries him away and he departs and it whirlwinds him out of his place.
²² For God will hurl at him and not spare. He would gladly flee out of his hand. ²³ Men will clap their hands at him and will hiss him out of his place.

³⁵ I have seen a wicked man in great power and spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶ But I passed by, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever. He will take you up and pluck you out of your tent and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁴³ He who is wise will give heed to these things and they will consider the loving kindnesses of Jehovah.

³ The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perverseness of the treacherous will destroy them.
⁴ Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
⁵ The righteousness of the perfect will direct his way, but the wicked man will fall by his own wickedness.

⁶ Righteousness guards he who is upright in the way, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

¹¹ The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

³² An evil man is thrust down in his evil-doing, but a righteous man has hope in his death.

⁹ Who is wise, that he may understand these things, prudent, that he may know them? For the ways of Jehovah are right and the just will walk in them. But transgressors will fall in them.

¹¹ I have overthrown cities among you*, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and you* were as a brand plucked out of the burning.
Yet you* have not returned to me, says Jehovah.

⁹ Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil! ¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone will cry out of the wall and the beam out of the timber will answer it.
¹² Woe to him who builds a town with blood and establishes a city by unrighteousness!

⁵ Yet God was not delighted in most of them; for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

⁴ For if God did not spare messengers who sinned, but threw them into hell and gave them to restraints of blackness, being kept for judgment; ⁵ and he did not spare the ancient world, but guarded Noah, the eighth person spared, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of ungodly people; ⁶ and he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, with a catastrophe, incinerating them, having placed them as an example for those who are about to be ungodly; ⁷ and he rescued righteous Lot, who was being subjugated by the conduct of the immoral in their unbridled-lusts ⁸ (for that righteous man, who was dwelling among them, was tormenting his righteous soul by seeing and in hearing their lawless works day by day).
⁹ The Lord knows how to rescue the devout out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous to a day of judgment to be punished;

⁶ through which water, the world which was then was destroyed, having been flooded in water. ⁷ But the current heavens and the earth have been stored up for fire by the same word, being kept to the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

⁷ If there is with you a poor man, one of your brothers, within any of your gates in your land which Jehovah your God gives you, you will not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother, ⁸ but you will surely open your hand to him and will surely lend him sufficient for his need which he wants.
⁹ Beware that there not be a worthless thought in your heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand and your eye be evil against your poor brother and you give him nothing and he cry to Jehovah against you and it is sin to you. ¹⁰ You will surely give him and your heart will not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing Jehovah your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to.
¹¹ For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you, saying, You will surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and to your poor, in your land.

¹ Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews. ² For there were who said, We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain that we may eat and live.
³ There were some also who said, We are mortgaging our fields and our vineyards and our houses. Let us get grain because of the dearth.
⁴ There were also who said, We have borrowed money for the king's tribute upon our fields and our vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our sons as their sons. And behold, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants and some of our daughters are brought into bondage already. Neither is it in our power to help it, for other men have our fields and our vineyards.

¹³ Also I shook out my lap and said, So God shake out every man from his house and from his labor, who does not perform this promise, even thus be he shaken out and emptied. And all the assembly said, Truly and praised Jehovah. And the people did according to this promise.

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save, even to Jehovah, but he answered them not.

⁴ Their poison is like the poison of a serpent, like the deaf adder that stops her ear,

²⁸ Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me,

²⁷ He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many a curse.

⁶ Is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke and to let the oppressed go free and that you* break every yoke? ⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to a hungry man and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house, when you see a naked man, that you cover him and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?
⁸ Then your light will break forth as the morning and your healing will spring forth speedily. And your righteousness will go before you. The glory of Jehovah will be your rearward. ⁹ Then you will call and Jehovah will answer, you will cry and he will say, Here I am. If you take the yoke away from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger and speaking wickedly,

¹⁶ But you* turned and profaned my name and caused every man his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you* had let go free at their pleasure, to return. And you* brought them into subjection, to be to you* for servants and for handmaids.
¹⁷ Therefore Jehovah says thus: You* have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother and every man to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you* a liberty, says Jehovah–to the sword, to the pestilence and to the famine. And I will make you* to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth.

⁹ Thus Jehovah of hosts has spoken, saying, Execute true justice and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother. ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the traveler, nor the poor man. And let none of you* devise evil against his brother in your* heart.
¹¹ But they refused to listen and pulled away the shoulder and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law and the words which Jehovah of hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets. Therefore great wrath came from Jehovah of hosts.
¹³ And it has happen that, as he cried and they would not hear, so they will cry and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts.

¹⁴ For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also be forgiving you.

² For in what judgment you judge, you will be judged and in what measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

³⁰ But he did not wish to, but went and cast him into prison, until he should repay what is owed. ³¹ But his fellow bondservants, having seen the things which had happened, were extremely sorrowful. And they came to their own lord, and they told all the things which had happened.
³² Then his lord called him, and says to him, You evil bondservant, I forgave you all that debt, since you pleaded with me. ³³ It was essential for you to have shown-mercy also on your fellow bondservant, like I also had shown-mercy to you. ³⁴ And his lord, was angry and gave him to the torturers until he should repay everything which is owed to him. ³⁵ So my heavenly Father will also be doing to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother his trespasses from your hearts.

⁴¹ Then he will also say to them at the left, Travel away from me, you those who have been cursed into the everlasting fire which has been prepared for the devil and his messengers: ⁴² for I was hungry and you did not give me anything to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not lead me in; naked and you did not dress me; sick and in prison and you did not visit me.
⁴⁴ Then they will also answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, or as a stranger or naked, or sick or in prison, and did not serve you?
⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, saying, Assuredly I am saying to you, Inasmuch as you did it not to one of these, the least, neither did you do it to me. ⁴⁶ And these will be going away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.

²⁵ From whenever time the householder arose and locked the door and you, being outside, may begin to stand and to knock on the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
And when he has answered the knock, he will say to you, I do not know you or where you are from.

⁵⁷ But having cried out with a loud voice, they held their ears, and united, rushed upon him;

¹³ For the judgment is merciless to the one who has not practiced mercy; mercy wins over judgment.
¹⁴ My brethren, what is the profit, if someone says he has faith, but does not have works? Is that faith able to save him? ¹⁵ But if a brother or sister is naked and may be deficient of daily nourishment, ¹⁶ and anyone out of you may say to them, Go away in peace. Be warmed and be fed, but do not give to them the body’s requirements; what is the profit?

²⁰ and you* will say, Moreover, behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.

¹¹ And their father Israel said to them, If it is so now, do this: take of the choice fruits of the land in your* vessels and carry a present down to the man, a little balm and a little honey, spicery and myrrh, nuts and almonds.

³⁵ So David received from her hand what she had brought him. And he said to her, Go up in peace to your house. See, I have listened to your voice and have accepted your person.

⁸ A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who has it; wherever it turns, it prospers.

²³ A wicked man receives a bribe out of the bosom to pervert the ways of justice.

¹⁶ A man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of a generous man and every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.

³ But when you are doing charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, ⁴ that your charity may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will be repaying you openly.

¹² Because I delivered the poor who cried, also the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him who was ready to perish came upon me and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
¹⁴ I put on righteousness and it clothed me. My justice was as a robe and a diadem.
¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and I was feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy and I searched out the case of he whom I did not know. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

⁸ I delight to do your will, O my God. Yes, your law is within my heart.

¹ Praise Jehovah. The man is fortunate who fears Jehovah, who delights greatly in his commandments.

¹⁶ I will delight myself in your statutes. I will not forget your word.

⁹² Unless your law had been my delight, I should then have perished in my affliction.

²⁰ For why should you, my son, be ravished with an strange woman and embrace the bosom of a foreigner?

²⁹ The way of Jehovah is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of wickedness.

¹² A righteous man considers the house of the wicked: the wicked are overthrown to ruin.

¹² I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice and to do good as long as they live.

⁵ You meet he who rejoices and works righteousness, those who remember you in your ways.
Behold, you were angry and we sinned. In them is eternity, shall we be saved?

²³ And then I will confess to them, I never knew you. Depart from me, you who are working lawlessness.

⁴¹ The Son of Man will be sending forth his messengers and they will be collecting out of his kingdom all the offenses and those who are practicing lawlessness, ⁴² and will be casting them into the furnace of fire–the weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there.

²⁷ And he will say, I say to you, I do not know you or where you are from. Withdraw from me, everyone–the workers of unrighteousness. ²⁸ The weeping and the gnashing of teeth will be there, whenever you^\'b0 see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves cast forth outside.

³⁴ Jesus says to them, My food is that I should be doing the will of the one who sent me, and should complete his work.

²² For I delight-inwardly in the law of God according to the inward man.

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death will be their shepherd and the upright will have dominion over them in the morning. And their beauty will be for Sheol to consume, that there is no habitation for it.

⁵ But as for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, Jehovah will lead them forth with the workers of wickedness.

¹⁸ (because her house inclines to death and her paths to the dead; ¹⁹ none who go to her return again, nor do they attain to the paths of life),

²⁶ Because she has cast down many wounded. Yes, all her slain are a mighty host.
²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he does not know because the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

²⁰ Walk with wise men and you will be wise. But the companion of fools will be evil for it.

⁶ and those who are turned back from following Jehovah and those who have not sought Jehovah, nor inquired after him.

¹⁹ Now this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who is practicing evil, hates the light, and is not coming to the light, in order that his works should not convict him.

¹ Even you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

⁴ For it is impossible, those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and had become partakers of the Holy Spirit ⁵ and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the future world ⁶ and then having fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, because they are again crucifying for themselves the Son of God and disgracing him.

²⁶ For when we sin willfully after the receiving of the full knowledge of the truth, then a sacrifice is left no more for us concerning sins, ²⁷ but a certain fearful expectancy of judgment and a zeal of fire which is about to eat the adversaries.

³⁸ But my righteous one will be living from faith and if he retreats back, my soul does not delight in him.’

²¹ For it was better for them to have not known fully the way of righteousness, than to turn away from the holy commandment given to them after having fully known it. ²² But it has befallen to them as the way of the true proverb, ‘ The dog having turning again toward his own vomit,’and the sow that had fully-washed, to wallowing in the mud.

¹⁹ They went out away from us, but they were not from us; for if they had been from us, they would have remained with us, but they went out, in order that they might be made manifest that all of them are not from us.

¹² These people are hidden-reefs in your love-feasts, sumptuously feasting fearlessly alongside you, shepherding themselves, they are waterless clouds, being carried away by the winds; unfruitful autumn trees, twice dead, having been uprooted,

¹⁰ lest strangers be filled with your strength and your labors be in the house of an alien, ¹¹ and you mourn at your latter end when your flesh and your body are consumed,

²⁰ There is desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of a wise man, but a foolish man swallows it up.

²¹ Because the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.

¹³ And not many days after, the younger son gathered it all together and went-abroad into a far region, and he squandered his estate with riotous living there. ¹⁴ Now having spent all, there became a mighty famine throughout that region, and he began to have lack of things. ¹⁵ And he traveled and joined himself to one of the citizens of that region, and he sent him into his field to feed swine. ¹⁶ And he was desiring to fill his belly from the carob pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him.

²⁴ And having shouted, he said, Father Abraham, show-mercy to me, and send Lazarus in order that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and may cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this flame.
²⁵ But Abraham said, Child, remember that you received your good things in your life and Lazarus likewise evil things, but now he is comforted here and you are in anguish.

⁶ But she who is self-indulgent has died, while still living.

⁴ betrayers, rash, having been puffed up, loving sensual-delights rather than loving God;

⁸ A righteous man is delivered out of trouble and a wicked man comes instead of him.

³ For I am Jehovah your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your stead. ⁴ Since you have been precious in my sight and honorable and I have loved you, therefore I will give men instead of you and peoples instead of your life.

⁴ Surely he has borne our griefs and has carried our sorrows.
Yet we esteemed him stricken, struck by God and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed.

⁸ For my thoughts are not your* thoughts, nor are your* ways my ways, says Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your* ways and my thoughts than your* thoughts.

¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered once for all on behalf of our sins, the righteous on behalf of the unrighteous, in order that he might lead you to God; having indeed been slain in the flesh, but was given-life in the Spirit;

⁶ And I said, O that I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away and be at rest. ⁷ Behold, then I would wander far off. I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah.

⁵ Woe is me, that I journey in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar! ⁶ My soul has long had her dwelling with him who hates peace.

⁹ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men, that I might leave my people and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches and he will vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.

¹⁸ What he labored for will he restore and will not swallow it down. According to the substance that he has gotten, he will not rejoice.

⁵ You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed my head with oil. My cup runs over.

³ Wealth and riches are in his house and his righteousness endures forever.

²² The blessing of Jehovah, it makes rich and he adds no sorrow with it.

⁶ Much treasure is in the house of a righteous man, but in the revenues of a wicked man is trouble.

¹⁹ Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth and has given him power to eat of it and to take his portion and to rejoice in his labor–this is the gift of God.

¹¹ Wisdom is as good as an inheritance, yes, it is more excellent for those who see the sun.

¹⁹ A feast is made for laughter and wine gladdens the life and money answers all things.

⁸ But ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, Kill us not, for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat and of barley and of oil and of honey. So he held back and did not kill them among their brothers.

¹⁹ Do not store up treasures for you upon the earth, where moth and rust ingest, and where thieves burrow through your^\'b0 wall and steal. ²⁰ But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust ingest, and where thieves do not burrow through or steal.

³ Those who were foolish, having taken their lamps, took no oil with them; ⁴ but the prudent took oil in their containers with their lamps.

⁸ Now the foolish said to the prudent, Give us some oil from your oil, because our lamps are quenched.

⁴⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks out of the abundance of the heart.

¹⁴ Now having spent all, there became a mighty famine throughout that region, and he began to have lack of things.

¹ Now he also said to his disciples, There was a certain rich man, who had a steward, and he was indicted by him as one squandering his possessions.

¹⁹ Now there was a certain rich man and he was clothing himself in purple and fine-linen, having been radiantly joyous daily. ²⁰ Now there was a certain poor man, Lazarus by name, who had been put at his gate, having been full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed from the falling crumbs of the rich man’s table. But even the dogs, coming to him, were licking his sores. ²² Now it happened, that the poor man died and that he was carried away by the messengers into Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And in Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and he sees Abraham from afar, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁹ The way of a wicked man is an abomination to Jehovah, but he loves he who follows after righteousness.

⁴ The reward of humility and the fear of Jehovah is riches and honor and life.

¹ Listen to me, you* who follow after righteousness, you* who seek Jehovah. Look to the rock from where you* were hewn and to the hold of the pit from where you* were dug.

³ And let us know, let us follow on to know Jehovah. His going forth is sure as the morning and he will come to us as the rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.

⁶ Those who hunger and are thirsty for righteousness are fortunate, because they will be fed.

⁷ Everlasting life to those who indeed by endurance in good work are seeking glory and honor and incorruption. ⁸ But to those seeking things out of selfish ambition and who are indeed disobedient to the truth, but obey unrighteousness, he will repay with fury and wrath, ⁹ affliction and distress upon every soul of man who is working evil, both of the Jew first and of the Greek. ¹⁰ But glory and honor and peace to every man who is working good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek;

¹⁹ Therefore consequently, we may pursue the things of peace, and the things for building up one another.

⁵⁸ So-then my beloved brethren, become grounded, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not empty in the Lord.

¹² Not that I have already received it or have already been completed in this, but I am pursuing it, if I might grab that for which I was also grabbed by Christ Jesus.

²¹ Test all things. Hold-onto the good things.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue: righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, meekness.

²² But flee the youthful lusts; pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who are calling upon the Lord out of a clean heart.

⁷ I have fought the good fight. I have completed the course. I have kept the faith. ⁸ Furthermore the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will be giving to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

¹⁴ Pursue peace with all and the holiness without which no one will be seeing the Lord:

⁷ in order that the trial of your faith, ( being much more precious than gold, which perishes), even now being tested through fire, may be found for praise and honor and to glory in the revelation of Jesus Christ.

⁶ And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, Unless you take away the blind and the lame, you will not come in here, thinking, David cannot come in here. ⁷ Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
⁸ And David said on that day, Whoever slays the Jebusites, let him get up to the watercourse and kill * the lame and the blind, the hated by David's soul, because the blind and the lame say, He cannot come into the house.
⁹ And David dwelt in the stronghold and called it the city of David. And David built all around from Millo and inward.

¹⁶ Then a wise woman out of the city cried out, Hear, hear. Say, I beseech you*, to Joab, Come near here, that I may speak with you. ¹⁷ And he came near to her and the woman said, Are you Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said to him, Hear the words of your handmaid. And he answered, I do hear. ¹⁸ Then she spoke, saying, They were accustomed to speak in old time, saying, They will surely ask counsel at Abel and so they ended the matter. ¹⁹ I am of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?
²⁰ And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹ The matter is not so, but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.
²² Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

⁵ A wise man is strong, yes, a man of knowledge increases might.

¹⁹ Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers that are in a city.

¹³ I have also seen wisdom under the sun this way and it seemed great to me. ¹⁴ There was a little city and few men within it. And there came a great king against it and besieged it and built great ramparts against it. ¹⁵ Now there was found in it a poor wise man. And hedelivered the city by his wisdom, yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised and his words are not heard.
¹⁷ The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools.
¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

¹⁹ Transgression is not lacking in the multitude of words, but he who refrains his lips does wisely.

¹³ A wicked man is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the righteous will come out of trouble.

³ He who guards his mouth keeps his life. He who opens wide his lips will have destruction.

²⁷ He who spares his words has knowledge and he who is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
²⁸ Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is considered wise. When he shuts his lips, he is prudent.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat the fruit of it.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks himself to be outwardly religious, though he does not bridle his tongue but deceiving his heart; this one’s religion is futile.

² For we all trip in many things. If anyone does not trip in speech, this one is a mature man, is also able to bridle the whole body. ³ Behold we put the horses’bridles into their mouths that they are to be obedient to us, and we direct their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, though being so-great and are driven by harsh winds, yet they are directed by a little rudder, wherever the impulse of the steersman is planning.
⁵ So the tongue is also a little member and boasts of magnificent things. Behold, how-vast a forest it lights with such a small fire! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus the tongue is designated among our members as what stains the whole body and ignites the birth cycle and is ignited by hell. ⁷ For every nature of beasts and birds, of reptiles and sea-creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by human nature. ⁸ But no one from mankind is able to tame the tongue; it is an uncontrollable evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ We are giving-thanks to God and the Father with it and we curse men with it, those who have become according to the likeness of God. ¹⁰ A thanks and a curse comes out of the same mouth. My brethren, these things do not need to become so! ¹¹ The spring is not gushing sweet and bitter water from the same hole in the ground, is it? ¹² My brethren, a fig tree is not able to produce olives or a vine produce figs, are they? Thus no spring is able to produce both salty and sweet water.
¹³ Who is wise and knowledgeable among you? Let him show out of his good conduct his works in meekness of wisdom.

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down, nor do him reverence, then Haman was full of wrath.
⁶ But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

¹ The man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers is fortunate,

²² How long, you* simple ones, will you* love simplicity? And scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?

¹⁸ Pride is before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.

¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty and before honor is humility.

²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scoffers and stripes for the back of fools.

⁸ Better is the end of a thing than the beginning of it. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
⁹ Do not be hasty in your spirit to be angry, because anger rests in the bosom of fools.

⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab, that he is very proud, even of his arrogance and his pride and his wrath. His boastings are nothing.

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep, ¹¹ so your poverty will come as a robber and your want as an armed man.

²⁴ The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slothful will be put under forced-labor.

²⁷ The slothful man roasts not what he took in hunting, but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

¹⁹ The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright is made a highway.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow because of the winter. Therefore he will beg in harvest and have nothing.

And your reward will be much, and you will be sons of the Highest, because he is kind toward the unthankful and evil. ³⁶ Therefore, become compassionate, just-as your Father is also compassionate.

³³ I coveted no one’s silver or gold or garment. ³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands attended to my needs, and to those being with me. ³⁵ I showed to you an example in all things, that so laboring, it is essential to help the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more fortunate to give than to receive.

⁷ But just-as you are abounding in everything, in faith and in word and in knowledge and in all diligence and in the love from you to us, see that you also may abound in this favor. ⁸ I do not speak according to commandment, but I am testing the genuineness of your love through the diligence of others. ⁹ For you know the favor of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet he became-poor because of you, in order that you might be enriched through that poverty.

⁹ as it has been written, ‘He has scattered them, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever.’ ¹⁰ Now he who is supplying seed to the sower and bread for food, may supply and may multiply your seed and may cause the growth of the fruits of your righteousness. ¹¹ You are enriched in everything to all liberality, which is working through us thanksgiving to God. ¹² Because the service of this ministry not only is replenishing the things lacking of the holy-ones, but is also abounding through many thanksgivings to God; ¹³ because through the trial of you from this service they are glorifying God upon the subjection of your confession toward the good-news of the Christ and at the liberality of your generosity toward them and toward all; ¹⁴ and in their supplication on your behalf, a longing-for you because of the surpassing grace of God upon you.

⁵ For just-as you know, (God being witness), we neither previously came in words of flattery, nor in a pretext of greed, ⁶ nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, while being able to be a burden to you as apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we became mild in your midst, as a nurse may cherish her own children. ⁸ So having kindly-feelings of you, we were delighted to have given to you not only the good-news of God, but also our own souls, because you have become beloved to us.

²² And Samuel said, Has Jehovah as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to listen than the fat of rams. ²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as idolatry and household-idol. Because you have rejected the word of Jehovah, he has also rejected you from being king.

⁸ I will not reprove you for your sacrifices and your burnt offerings being continually before me. ⁹ I will take no bullock out of your house, nor male-goats out of your folds.
¹⁰ Because every beast of the forest is mine and the cattle upon a thousand hills. ¹¹ I know all the birds of the mountains and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
¹² If I were hungry, I would not tell you, because the world is mine and the fullness of it. ¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹¹ What to me is the multitude of your* sacrifices? says Jehovah. I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts. And I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of male-goats. ¹² When you* come to appear before me, who has required this at your* hand–to trample my courts?
¹³ Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies–I cannot bear wickedness and the solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your* new moons and your* appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.
¹⁵ And when you* spread forth your* hands, I will hide my eyes from you*. Yes, when you* make many prayers, I will not hear; your* hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash you*, make you* clean, put away the evil of your* practices from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.

³ He who slaughters an ox is as he who kills a man. He who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog's neck. He who offers an oblation, as swine's blood. He who burns frankincense, as he who graces an idol.
Yes, they have chosen their own ways and their soul delights in their abominations.

²⁰ To what purpose does there come to me frankincense from Sheba and the sweet cane from a far country? Your* burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your* sacrifices pleasing to me.

¹¹ Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your* eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, says Jehovah.
¹² But go now to my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

²¹ I hate, I despise your* feasts and I will take no delight in your* solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, though you* offer me your* burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I regard the peace offerings of your* fat beasts.

¹³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you are devouring widows’houses, and praying long prayers for a pretext, because of this, you will be receiving even-more condemnation.

¹ You will not take up a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked man to be an unrighteous witness.

¹⁶ If an unrighteous witness rises up against any man to testify against him of wrong-doing, ¹⁷ then both the men, between whom the controversy is, will stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that will be in those days,
¹⁸ and the judges will make diligent inquiry. And behold, if the witness is a false witness and has testified falsely against his brother, ¹⁹ then you* will do to him, as he had thought to do to his brother. So will you put away the evil from the midst of you.

¹⁹ a false witness who breathes-out lies and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹⁹ The lips of truth will be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

⁵ A false witness will not be unpunished and he who breathes-out lies will not escape.

¹⁸ A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul and a sword and a sharp arrow.

¹⁵ But they said to her, You are insane.
But she was stoutly affirming to have this so.

¹⁷ Therefore while planning this certain thing, I did not consequently use fickleness, did I? ¹³ But having the same spirit of the faith, according to what has been written, ‘I believed and hence I spoke.’We also believe and hence we also speak;

⁸ Faithful is the word: and I will for you to confidently confirm concerning these things, in order that those who have believed God may be anxious to establish themselves first in good works. These things are good and profitable to men.

⁵ O that my ways were established to observe your statutes!

⁵⁹ I thought on my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies.

⁵ The righteousness of the perfect will direct his way, but the wicked man will fall by his own wickedness.

¹⁴ The man who fears always is fortunate, but he who hardens his heart will fall into mischief.

³ Therefore the showers have been withheld and there has been no latter rain. Yet you have a prostitute's forehead; you refused to be ashamed.

³ O Jehovah, do not your eyes look upon truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

¹² Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, nor could they blush. Therefore they will fall among those who fall. In the time of their visitation they will be cast down, says Jehovah.

¹³ Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get themselves back to the land, but they could not, for the sea grew more and more tempestuous against them.

²⁷ For against truth, against your holy young-servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together ²⁸ to do as many things as your hand and your council predetermined to happen.

³⁹ but if it is from God, you will not be able to tear it down; lest you might be found even to be quarreling against God.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it has been written, ‘ It is he who grabs the wise in their craftiness'; ²⁰ and again, ‘The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are futile.’

⁸ and, ‘A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense'; those who are stumbling in the word, being disobedient, toward which they were also appointed.

³ But you, O Jehovah, are a shield on my behalf, my glory and he who lifts up of my head.

⁸ Salvation belongs to Jehovah. Your blessing be upon your people. Selah.

⁷ Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will make mention of the name of Jehovah our God.

¹⁷ A horse is a vain thing for safety, nor does he deliver any by his great power.
¹⁸ Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon those who fear him, upon those who hope in his loving kindness,

²⁰ God is to us a God of deliverance and escape from death belongs to Jehovah the Lord.

¹⁰ He does not delight in the strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

¹¹ I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill, but time and chance happens to them all.

¹ Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek Jehovah!

²³ Truly it is in vain from the heights, the multitude on the mountains. Truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.
