² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. ³ As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable.
⁴ Take away the dross from the silver and there comes forth a vessel for the refiner. ⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king and his throne will be established in righteousness.
⁶ Do not put yourself forward in the presence of the king and stand not in the place of great men. ⁷ Because it is better that it is said to you, Come up here, than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen.
⁸ Do not go forth hastily to strive. What will you do in the end of it when your neighbor has put you to shame? ⁹ Debate your case with your neighbor himself and disclose not the secret of another, ¹⁰ lest he who hears it revile you and your evil report not turn back.
¹¹ A timely word spoken is apples of gold in a lattice-work of silver.
¹² An earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is reproving a wise one upon an obedient ear.
¹³ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
¹⁴ Clouds and wind without rain, is he who boasts himself of his gifts falsely.
¹⁵ A ruler is persuaded by long-suffering and a soft tongue breaks the bone.
¹⁶ Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you are filled with it and vomit it.
¹⁷ Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor's house, lest he is weary of you and hate you.
¹⁸ A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul and a sword and a sharp arrow.
¹⁹ Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is a broken tooth and a foot out of joint.
²⁰ As he who takes off a garment in cold weather and vinegar upon soda, so is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.
²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. ²² Because you will heap coals of fire upon his head and Jehovah will reward you.
²³ The north wind brings forth rain. So does a backbiting tongue, an indignant countenance.
²⁴ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
²⁵ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
²⁶ A troubled fountain and a corrupted spring, is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey, so for men to search out their own glory is grievous.
²⁸ He whose spirit is without restraint is a city that is broken down and without walls.

³² And he spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs were a thousand and five.

A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

⁹ And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs.

¹ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

²² Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah came, who was over the household and Shebna the scribe and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

² And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household and Shebna the scribe and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

¹ The word of Jehovah that came to Hosea the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, King of Israel.

¹ The word of Jehovah that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

²⁹ The secret things belong to Jehovah our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our sons until everlasting, that we may do all the words of this law.

⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to judge this your great people?
¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, ¹² behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you will any arise like you.
¹³ And I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. ¹⁴ And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.
¹⁵ And Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah and offered up burnt offerings and offered peace offerings and made a feast to all his servants.
¹⁶ Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king and stood before him. ¹⁷ And the one woman said, Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. And I was delivered of a child with her in the house. ¹⁸ And it happened the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also. And we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except we two in the house.
¹⁹ And this woman's child died in the night, because she lay upon it. ²⁰ And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me while your handmaid slept and laid it in her bosom and laid her dead child in my bosom. ²¹ And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead. But when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.
²² And the other woman said, No, but the living is my son and the dead is your son. And the other woman said, No, but the dead is your son and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king.
²³ Then the king said, The one says, This is my son that lives and your son is the dead. And the other says, No, but your son is the dead and my son is the living. ²⁴ And the king said, Fetch me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the king said, Divide the living child in two and give half to the one and half to the other.
²⁶ Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child and by no means kill it. But the other said, It will be neither mine nor your. Divide it. ²⁷ Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child and by no means kill it; she is the mother of it.
²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged. And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

²⁹ And God gave Solomon exceedingly much wisdom and understanding and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore. ³⁰ And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt. ³¹ For he was wiser than all men: than Ethan the Ezrahite and Heman and Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame was in all the nations all around.
³² And he spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs were a thousand and five. ³³ And he spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall. He spoke also of beasts and of birds and of creeping things and of fishes.
³⁴ And there came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.

¹⁵ that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers. So you will find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful to kings and provinces. And that they have made sedition within the same of old time, for which cause this city was laid waste.

¹⁹ And I decreed and search has been made. And it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it.

¹⁷ Now therefore, if it seems good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure-house, which is there at Babylon, whether it is so, that a decree was made from Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

⁷ Can you find out God by searching? Can you find out the Almighty to perfection? ⁸ It is high as heaven; what can you do? Deeper than Sheol; what can you know?

¹⁶ I was a father to the needy and I searched out the case of he whom I did not know.

⁴ Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. ⁵ Who determined the measures of it, if you know? Or who stretched the line upon it? ⁶ Upon what were the foundations of it fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone of it ⁷ when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors when it broke forth, like it had gone forth out of the womb, ⁹ when I made clouds the garment of it and thick darkness a swaddling-band for it, ¹⁰ and marked out for it my bound and set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, This far you will come, but no farther and here your proud waves will be stayed?
¹² Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dayspring to know its place ¹³ that it might take hold of the ends of the earth and the wicked be shaken out of it? ¹⁴ It is changed as clay under the seal and all things stand forth as a garment.
¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withheld and the high arm is broken.
¹⁶ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep? ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death? ¹⁸ Have you comprehended the earth in its breadth? Declare, if you know it all.
¹⁹ Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And as for darkness, where is the place of it ²⁰ that you should take it to the bound of it and that you should discern the paths to the house of it? ²¹ You know, for you were born then and the number of your days is great!
²² Have you entered the treasuries of the snow, or have you seen the treasures of the hail, ²³ which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
²⁴ By what way is the light divided, or the east wind scattered upon the earth? ²⁵ Who has cleft a channel for the water flood, or the way for the lightning of the thunder, ²⁶ to cause it to rain on a land where no man is, on the wilderness, in which there is no man, ²⁷ to satisfy the waste and desolate ground and to cause the tender grass to spring forth?
²⁸ Has the rain a father? Or who has bore the drops of dew? ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary frost of heaven, who has engendered it? ³⁰ The waters hide themselves and become like stone and the face of the deep is frozen.

⁴ Their young ones become strong. They grow up in the open field. They go forth and do not return again.
⁵ Who has sent out the wild donkey free? Or who has loosed the bonds of the swift donkey ⁶ whose home I have made the wilderness and the salt land his dwelling-place? ⁷ He scorns the tumult of the city, neither does he hear the shouting of the driver. ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture and he searches after every green thing.
⁹ Will the wild-ox be content to serve you? Or will he abide by your crib? ¹⁰ Can you bind the wild-ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he harrow the valleys after you? ¹¹ Will you trust him because his strength is great? Or will you leave to him your labor? ¹² Will you confide in him that he will bring home your seed and gather the grain of your threshing-floor?
¹³ The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the pinions and plumage of love? ¹⁴ For she leaves her eggs on the ground and warms them in the dust. ¹⁵ And she forgets that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may trample them. ¹⁶ She deals hardly with her young ones, as if they were not hers. Though her labor be in vain, she is without fear, ¹⁷ because God has deprived her of wisdom, nor has he imparted understanding to her. ¹⁸ The time she lifts up herself on high she scorns the horse and his rider.
¹⁹ Have you given the horse his might? Have you clothed his neck with the quivering mane? ²⁰ Have you made him to leap as a locust? The glory of his snorting is awesome. ²¹ He paws in the valley and rejoices in his strength. He goes out to meet the armed men.
²² He mocks at fear and is not dismayed. Neither does he turn back from the sword. ²³ The quiver rattles against him, the flashing spear and the javelin. ²⁴ He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage, nor does he believe that it is the voice of the trumpet. ²⁵ As often as the trumpet sounds he says, Aha! And he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains and the shouting.
²⁶ Is it by your wisdom that the hawk soars, and stretches her wings toward the south? ²⁷ Is it at your command that the eagle mounts up and makes her nest on high? ²⁸ She dwells on the cliff and makes her home upon the point of the cliff and the stronghold. ²⁹ From there she spies out the prey. Her eyes behold it afar off. ³⁰ Her young ones also suck up blood. And where the slain are, there is she.

² Shall he who quibbles contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.

³ Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

³³ O the depth of the riches, and of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and untraceable his ways! ³⁴ For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become his counselor?

²⁹ And God gave Solomon exceedingly much wisdom and understanding and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore.

¹¹ Because as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him.

¹¹ Ask you a sign of Jehovah your God, ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.

⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your* ways and my thoughts than your* thoughts.

³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor some other created thing, will be able to separate us away from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁷ in order that the trial of your faith, ( being much more precious than gold, which perishes), even now being tested through fire, may be found for praise and honor and to glory in the revelation of Jesus Christ.

³ The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but Jehovah tries the hearts.

²⁵ And I will turn my hand upon you and thoroughly purge away your dross and will take away all your tin. ²⁶ And I will restore your judges as at the first and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called the city of righteousness, a faithful town.
²⁷ Zion will be redeemed with justice and her converts with righteousness.

¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me. All of them are brass and tin and iron and lead, in the midst of the furnace. They are the dross of silver.

² But who can abide the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire and like launder's soap.
³ And he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. And he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them as gold and silver. And they will offer to Jehovah offerings in righteousness.

²⁰ Now vessels are not only golden and silver in a great house, but also wooden and clay, and indeed the things to honor and the things to dishonor. ²¹ Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, having been made holy and is useful to the master, having been prepared for every good work.

³³ So will their blood return upon the head of Joab and upon the head of his seed everlasting. But to David and to his seed and to his house and to his throne, there will be peace everlasting from Jehovah.

⁴⁶ So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And he went out and fell upon him so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

¹¹ in which the king granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together and to stand for their life, to destroy, to kill and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province who would assault them, their little ones and women and to take the spoil of them for a prey, ¹² upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.
¹³ A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was proclaimed to all the peoples and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. ¹⁴ So the posts that rode upon swift steeds that were used in the king's service went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace.
¹⁵ And Mordecai went forth from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white and with a great crown of gold and with a robe of fine linen and purple. And the city of Shushan shouted and was glad.
¹⁶ The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor. ¹⁷ And in every province and in every city, wherever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness and joy, a feast and a good day. And many from among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews was fallen upon them.

⁷ He who works deceit will not dwell within my house. He who speaks falsehood will not be established before my eyes.
⁸ Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off all the workers of wickedness from the city of Jehovah.

¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, because the throne is established by righteousness.

⁸ A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

²⁸ Kindness and truth preserve the king and his throne is upheld by kindness.

¹⁴ The king who faithfully judges the poor, his throne will be established forever.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from hereafter until everlasting. The zeal of Jehovah of hosts will perform this.

⁵ And a throne will be established in loving kindness and he will sit on it in truth, in the tent of David, judging and seeking justice and swift to do righteousness.

¹¹ And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the sons of Israel out of Egypt?

²⁰ And as for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them, for they are found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for you and for all your father's house? ²¹ And Saul answered and said, Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me according to this manner?
²² And Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the guest-chamber and made them sit in the chief place among those who were bidden, who were about thirty men.

¹⁷ And Samuel said, Though you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed you king over Israel.

¹⁸ And David said to Saul, Who am I and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?
¹⁹ But it happened at the time when Merab, Saul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.
²⁰ And Michal, Saul's daughter, loved David and they told Saul and the thing pleased him. ²¹ And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore Saul said to David, You will this day be my son-in-law a second time.
²² And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Speak with David secretly and say, Behold, the king has delight in you and all his servants love you. Now therefore be the king's son-in-law. ²³ And Saul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Does it seem to you* a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?

⁸ Now therefore thus you will say to my servant David, Jehovah of hosts says thus, I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people, over Israel. ⁹ And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones that are on the earth.
¹⁰ And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place and be moved no more. Neither will the sons of wicked afflict them any more, as at the first, ¹¹ and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel and I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover Jehovah tells you that Jehovah will make you a house. ¹² When your days are fulfilled and you will sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will proceed out of your guts and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He will build a house for my name and I will establish the throne of his kingdom until everlasting.
¹⁴ I will be his father and he will be my son. If he commits wicked things, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men, ¹⁵ but my loving kindness will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul whom I put away before you. ¹⁶ And your house and your kingdom will be made sure forever before you; your throne will be established until everlasting.
¹⁷ According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

¹ Jehovah, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty; nor have I walked in grand things, or in things too wonderful for me.

¹⁹ Better it is to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey, so for men to search out their own glory is grievous.

² Let another man praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips.

⁶ Then I said, Ah, lord Jehovah! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am a child. ⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a child. For I will send you to whomever; you will go and whatever I will command you; you will speak.
⁸ Do not be afraid because of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.
⁹ Then Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth. And Jehovah said to me, Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. ¹⁰ See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

¹² Also Amaziah said to Amos, O you seer, go, flee away into the land of Judah and there eat bread and prophesy there. ¹³ But do not prophesy again any more at Bethel, for it is the king's sanctuary and it is a royal house.
¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, nor was I a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore trees. ¹⁵ And Jehovah took me from following the flock and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to my people Israel.

⁷ Now he spoke a parable to those who have been invited, when he took-heed of how they were choosing for themselves out the foremost-places; saying to them: ⁸ Whenever you are invited by anyone to a marriage-feast, do not recline in the foremost seat; lest a more admired man than you may have been invited by him, ⁹ and he who invited you and him, having come to you will say, Give this one your place, and then you may begin with shame to hold the last place. ¹⁰ But whenever you are invited, travel there and lean-back in the last place; in order that whenever he who has invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, go higher toward me, and then you will have glory in the sight of those who recline at the table together with you. ¹¹ Because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, and he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

¹⁴ I say to you, This one went down to his house, having been made righteous rather than that man, because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, but he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

⁵ Likewise, the younger ones, be subject to the elder ones. But all of you be subject to one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because ‘God resists the haughty, but is giving grace to the humble.’

¹ I saw after these things, and behold, a door has been opened in heaven and the first voice which I heard speaking with me, a voice like that of a trumpet, saying, Come up here and I will be showing you what things are essential to happen after these things.

¹⁴ And Abner said to Joab, I beseech you, let the young men arise and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise. ¹⁵ Then they arose and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin and for Ish-bosheth the son of Saul and twelve of the servants of David.
¹⁶ And each man caught his fellow by the head and thrust his sword in his fellow's side, so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

²⁶ Then Abner called to Joab and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? Do you not know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long will it be then, before you bid the people return from following their brothers?

⁸ Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, King of Israel, saying, Come, let us look each other in the face.
⁹ And Jehoash the King of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son as a wife. And a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. ¹⁰ You have indeed struck Edom and your heart has lifted you up. Glory by it and abide at home, for why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?
¹¹ But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash King of Israel went up. And he and Amaziah king of Judah looked each other in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah. ¹² And Judah was put to the worse before Israel and they fled every man to his tent.

¹² There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end of it are the ways of death.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like letting out water. Therefore leave off contention, before there is quarreling.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention and his mouth calls for stripes.

³³ Because the churning of milk brings forth butter and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood, so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife.

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests bear rule by their means. And my people love to have it so. And what will you* do in the end of it?

²⁵ Be agreeable with your opponent quickly, until which time you are with him on the road; lest the opponent should give you to the judge and the judge should give you to the attendant and you will be cast into prison.

³¹ Or what king, while traveling to encounter a different king in war, has not sit down first and plans if he is able at ten-thousand to encounter the one who is coming against him with twenty thousand? ³² Otherwise, having sent an ambassador, while still being faraway, he asks for the terms of peace.

¹³ He who goes around as a gossiper reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.

¹⁹ He who goes about as a gossiper reveals secrets. Therefore do not associate with he who opens his lips wide.

⁵ And whoever accepts one such child in my name, accepts me. ⁶ But whoever offends one of these little ones who believes in me, it is more advantageous for him that a millstone, the ones rotated by a donkey, should be hung at his neck, and that he should be sunk in the depths of the sea.
⁷ Woe to the world from the coming offenses! For it is a necessity for the offenses to come; however, woe to that man through whom the offense comes! ⁸ Now if your hand or your foot is offending you, cut both of them off and cast them from you. It is good for you to enter into life lame or crippled, rather than to be cast into the everlasting fire, having two hands or two feet. ⁹ And if your eye is offending you, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is good for you to enter into life one-eyed, rather than having two eyes, and to be cast into the hell of fire.
¹⁰ See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you, that in the heavens their messengers are always looking at the face of my Father who is in the heavens. ¹¹ For the Son of Man came to save what has been lost.

¹² What are you thinking? If there should happen to be any man who has a hundred sheep, and one out of them might be misled, does he not leave the ninety nine and travel on the mountains, and seek the one which is misled? ¹³ And if he happens to find it, assuredly I am saying to you, He rejoices over it more than over the ninety nine which have not been misled. ¹⁴ So it is also not the will before your Father who is in the heavens, that one of these little ones should perish.


¹⁵ Now if your brother sins against you, go and reprove him, the sin is between you and him only; if he hears you, you have gained your brother. ¹⁶ But if he does not hear you, take with you one or two more, in order that, ‘at the mouth of two or three witnesses every declaration should be established.’ ¹⁷ But if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the congregation, and if he also refuses to hear the congregation, let him be just-like the Gentile and the tax collector to you.

³⁹ Turn away my reproach of which I am afraid, because your ordinances are good.

²³ A man has joy in the answer of his mouth and a word in due season, how good it is!

²⁶ He who gives a right answer kisses the lips.

¹⁰ The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words and what was written uprightly–words of truth.

⁴ The lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words he who is weary. He awakens morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.

³¹ that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. And when Jehovah will have dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid.

¹¹ Then there came to him all his brothers and all his sisters and all those who had been of his acquaintance before and ate bread with him in his house. And they sympathized with him and comforted him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him. Each man also gave him a piece of money and each one a ring of gold.

⁵ Let a righteous man kill* me, as a kindness. And let him reprove me, as oil upon the head. Do not let my head refuse it. Because my prayer will continue even in their wickedness.

⁸ My son, hear the instruction of your father and do not forsake the law of your mother. ⁹ Because they will be a wreath of charm to your head and chains about your neck.

⁸ Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate you.
Reprove a wise man and he will love you.

⁵ A fool despises his father's correction, but he who regards reproof gets prudence.

³¹ The ear that listens to the reproof of life will abide among the wise.
³² He who refuses correction despises his own soul, but he who listens to reproof gets understanding.

¹² The hearing ear and the seeing eye, Jehovah has made even both of them.

⁵ Better is open rebuke than love that is hidden.
⁶ Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are abundant.

¹⁷ A wicked messenger falls into evil, but a faithful ambassador is health.

²⁵ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

⁶ He who sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet and drinks injury.

²⁵ But I deemed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your ambassador and minister to my need; ²⁶ since he was longing-for you all, and was disheartened because you had heard that he was sick. ²⁷ For indeed he was sick–close to death. ¹¹ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made for him horns of iron and said, Jehovah says thus, With these you will push the Syrians until they are consumed.

⁶ Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness, but a faithful man who can find?

¹¹ Because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, and he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the first one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and was praying these things with himself, God, I give-thanks to you, that I am not like the rest of men: swindlers, unrighteous, adulterers or just-like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice in the week; I tithe of all things, as many things as I procure. ¹³ And the tax collector, standing from afar, was not even willing to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his chest, saying, God, be lenient to me, the sinner. ¹⁴ I say to you, This one went down to his house, having been made righteous rather than that man, because everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, but he who is humbling himself will be exalted.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, workers of treachery, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And it is not a marvelous thing; for even the Adversary fashions himself into a messenger of light. ¹⁵ Therefore, it is no great thing if his servants are also fashioned like servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.
¹⁶ I say again, not anyone should think me to be foolish; otherwise, (even if as foolish), accept me in order that I may also boast in a little something. ¹⁷ What I speak in this firmness of boasting, I do not speak according to the Lord, but as in foolishness. ¹⁸ Since many are boasting according to the flesh, I will also be boasting.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, he who is gracious forever, knows that I am not lying.

¹⁵ having left the straight way. They were misled, having followed in the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ but he had his reproof from his own violation of the law: a voiceless donkey, having spoken in a human voice, forbade the insanity of the prophet.
¹⁷ These people are waterless springs and clouds driven by a gale of wind to whom the blackness of darkness has been kept forever. ¹⁸ For while speaking flattering-words of futility, they entice (with the lusts of the flesh to unbridled-lusts) those who really had fled away from those who conduct themselves in error. ¹⁹ They are promising them freedom, when they themselves are bondservants of corruption. For in what anyone has been succumbed, in this, he has also been enslaved.

¹² These people are hidden-reefs in your love-feasts, sumptuously feasting fearlessly alongside you, shepherding themselves, they are waterless clouds, being carried away by the winds; unfruitful autumn trees, twice dead, having been uprooted, ¹³ wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shames, misleading stars–for whom the blackness of darkness has been kept forever.

¹⁶ These men are murmurers, complainers, conducting-themselves according to their lusts and their mouth is speaking flattering-words, admiring faces because of profit.

⁴ And he commanded them, saying, Thus you* will say to my lord Esau, Thus says your servant Jacob, I have traveled with Laban and stayed until now. ⁵ And I have oxen and donkeys, flocks and men-servants and maid-servants. And I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.
⁶ And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau and moreover he comes to meet you and four hundred men with him. ⁷ Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed. And he divided the people that were with him and the flocks and the herds and the camels, into two companies. ⁸ And he said, If Esau comes to the one company and slays it, then the company which is left will escape.
⁹ And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, who said to me, Return to your country and to your kindred and I will do good things with you, ¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant, because with my staff I passed over this Jordan and now I have become two companies.
¹¹ I beseech you, deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau. For I fear him, lest he comes and slays me, the mother with the sons. ¹² And you said, I will surely do you good and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
¹³ And he lodged there that night and took of what he had with him a present for Esau his brother: ¹⁴ two hundred female-goats and twenty male-goats, two hundred ewe-lambs and twenty rams, ¹⁵ thirty milk camels and their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female-donkeys and ten foals.

¹⁴ But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master and he railed at them.

²⁴ And she fell at his feet and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me be the iniquity and I beseech you, let your handmaid speak in your ears and hear the words of your handmaid. ²⁵ I beseech you, do not let my lord regard this worthless fellow, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name and senselessness is with him. But I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord whom you sent.
²⁶ Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from blood guiltiness and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.
²⁸ I beseech you, forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For Jehovah will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah and evil will not be found in you all your days. ²⁹ And though men have risen up to pursue you and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. And the souls of your enemies, them he will sling out as from the hollow of a sling.
³⁰ And it will happen, when Jehovah will have done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you and will have appointed you prince over Israel, ³¹ that this will be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. And when Jehovah will have dealt well with my lord, then remember your handmaid.

³⁷ And it happened in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal, that his wife told him these things and his heart died within him and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it happened about ten days after, that Jehovah killed* Nabal, so that he died.
³⁹ And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Praise Jehovah, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal and has kept back his servant from evil and Jehovah has returned the evil-doing of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to him as a wife.
⁴⁰ And when the servants of David came to Abigail to Carmel, they spoke to her, saying, David has sent us to you, to take you to him as a wife. ⁴¹ And she arose and bowed herself with her face to the earth and said, Behold, your handmaid is a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord.
⁴² And Abigail hastened and arose and rode upon a donkey, with five of her maidens who followed her. And she went after the messengers of David and became his wife. ⁴³ David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel and they became his wives, both of them.
⁴⁴ Now Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath, but a grievous word stirs up anger.

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is messengers of death, but a wise man will pacify it.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place, because healing rest great offenses.

⁸ And after a while he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion and honey. ⁹ And he took it into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave to them and they ate, but he did not tell them that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

²⁵ And all the people came into the forest and there was honey upon the ground. ²⁶ And when the people came to the forest, behold, the honey dropped, but no man put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.
²⁷ But Jonathan heard not when his father charged the people with the oath, therefore he put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand and dipped it in the honeycomb and put his hand to his mouth and his eyes were enlightened.

⁸ The morsel which you have eaten you will vomit up and lose your sweet words.

¹³ My son, eat honey, because it is good and the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste, ¹⁴ so the knowledge of wisdom is to your soul. If you have found it, then there will be a reward and your hope will not be cut off.

¹⁵ Butter and honey will he eat, when he knows to refuse the evil and choose the good.

²² And it will happen, that because of the abundance of milk which they will give he will eat butter. For everyone who is left in the midst of the land will eat butter and honey.

³⁴ But take-heed to yourselves, lest your hearts might be burdened in a hangover and drunkenness, and anxieties of everyday life, and that day might suddenly stand upon you;

¹⁸ And do not be drunken with wine, in which there is riotousness, but be filled in the Spirit;

² and he said, Behold now, my lords, I beseech you*, turn aside into your* servant's house and abide all night and wash your* feet and you* will rise up early and go on your* way. And they said, No, but we will abide in the street all night.
³ And he urged them greatly. And they turned aside to him and entered into his house. And he made a feast for them and baked unleavened bread and they ate.

¹⁸ And he said to him, We are passing from Bethlehem in Judah to the farther side of the hill-country of Ephraim. I am from there and I went to Bethlehem in Judah. And I am now going to the house of Jehovah and there is no man that takes me into his house. ¹⁹ Yet there is both straw and fodder for our donkeys and there is bread and wine also for me and for your handmaid and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no want of anything.
²⁰ And the old man said, Peace be to you. However let all your wants lie upon me, only do not lodge in the street. ²¹ So he brought him into his house and gave the donkeys fodder. And they washed their feet and ate and drank.

²⁴ Like whenever I travel through toward Spain, I will be coming to you, (for I am hoping to see you when I am traveling through and to be sent onward by you, if first I may be partially filled from you).

² Your tongue devises wickedness, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue is a sharp sword.

³ What will be given to you and what will be done more to you, you deceitful tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

³ They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent. Adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

¹⁸ There is he who speaks rashly like the stabs of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is health.

²⁸ Do not bear witness against your neighbor without cause and deceive not with your lips.

³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.

⁸ Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaks deceit. He speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he lies wait for him.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus the tongue is designated among our members as what stains the whole body and ignites the birth cycle and is ignited by hell.

²⁰ And Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came to him and distressed him, but did not strengthen him. ²¹ For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of Jehovah and out of the house of the king and of the rulers and gave it to the king of Assyria, but it did not help him.

¹⁴ To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be from his friend, even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
¹⁵ My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away, ¹⁶ which are black because of the ice, in which the snow hides itself. ¹⁷ What time they grow warm, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.
¹⁸ The caravans that travel by the way of them turn aside. They go up into the waste and perish. ¹⁹ The caravans of Tema looked, the traveling of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰ They were put to shame because they had hoped. They came there and were confounded.

¹ Woe to the rebellious sons, says Jehovah, who take counsel, but not of me and who make a league, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin, ² who set out to go down into Egypt and have not asked at my mouth, to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!
³ Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your* shame and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your* confusion.

⁶ Behold, you trust upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh King of Egypt to all who trust on him.

⁶ And all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am Jehovah, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ⁷ When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders. And when they leaned upon you, you broke and made all their loins to be at a stand still.

¹⁶ In my first defense no one came together for my defense, but all forsook me; may it not be counted against them.

¹² And if he is a poor man, you will not sleep with his pledge. ¹³ You will surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment and bless you. And it will be righteousness to you before Jehovah your God.
¹⁴ You will not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is of your brothers, or of your travelers that are in your land within your gates. ¹⁵ You will give him his hire in his day, neither will the sun go down upon it, for he is poor and sets his heart upon it, lest he cry against you to Jehovah and it is sin to you.
¹⁶ The fathers will not be put to death for the sons, neither will the sons be put to death for the fathers. Every man will be put to death for his own sin.
¹⁷ You will not distort the justice due to the traveler, or to the fatherless, nor take the widow's garments to pledge,

⁷ They lie all night naked without clothing and have no covering in the cold. ⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.
⁹ There are men who pluck the fatherless from the breast and take a pledge of the poor, ¹⁰ so that they go about naked without clothing and being hungry they carry the sheaves.

³ Because those who led us captive there required of us songs and those who wasted us, gladness, saying, Sing for us one of the songs of Zion.
⁴ How will we sing Jehovah's song in a foreign land?

²⁶ As vinegar to the teeth and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

⁴ a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to a hungry man and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house, when you see a naked man, that you cover him and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace and passed the night fasting, nor were instruments of music brought before him. And his sleep fled from him.

¹⁵ Ready to rejoice with the ones rejoicing and to weep with the ones weeping.

¹⁵ But if a brother or sister is naked and may be deficient of daily nourishment, ¹⁶ and anyone out of you may say to them, Go away in peace. Be warmed and be fed, but do not give to them the body’s requirements; what is the profit?

¹⁵ And the vow of the faith will save the one who is weary and the Lord will lift him up, even if he has been practicing sins, it will be forgiven him.

⁴ If you meet your enemy's ox or his donkey wandering, you will surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If you see the donkey of him who hates you lying under his burden, you will refrain leaving him. You will surely release it with him.

²² And he answered, You will not kill* them. Would you kill* those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them that they may eat and drink and go to their master.

¹⁵ And the men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives and with the spoil clothed all who were naked among them and dressed them and shod them and gave them to eat and to drink and anointed them and carried all the feeble of them upon donkeys and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. ¹⁷ Rejoice not when your enemy falls and do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown,

⁴⁴ But I am saying to you, Love^*\'b0 your enemies, speak well of those who curse you, do good things to those who hate you and pray on behalf of those who are railing at you and are persecuting you.

²⁰ Therefore, if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for while doing this, you will be piling up hot-coals of fire upon his head. ²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹² It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done to me and that Jehovah will reward me good for his cursing of me this day.

¹³ And if indeed the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

¹⁸ Consequently, also those who have fallen-asleep in Christ have perished.

²² Out of the north comes golden splendor. God has upon him awesome majesty.

³ he who does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his friend, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor,

⁵ He who slanders his neighbor secretly, I will destroy him. He who has a high look and a proud heart I will not endure.

²⁰ For lack of wood the fire goes out and where there is no whisperer, contention ceases.

³⁰ slandering, spiteful to God, insolent, haughty, braggarts, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

²⁰ For I am fearing, lest, when I come, I should find you such-as I do not will and I myself might be found by you such-as you do not will; lest there should be strifes, jealousies, furies, selfish ambitions, slanderers, malicious whisperers, arrogant-people, unrests;

¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

⁹ It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and angry woman.

¹⁵ A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. ¹⁶ He who would restrain her restrains the wind and his right hand encounters oil.

¹⁶ And she went and sat herself down opposite him a good way off, as if it was a bowshot away. For she said, Do not let me look upon the death of the child. And she sat opposite him and lifted up her voice and wept.
¹⁷ And God heard the voice of the lad. And the messenger of God called to Hagar out of heaven and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Do not fear, God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. ¹⁸ Arise, lift up the lad and hold him in your hand, because I will make him a great nation. ¹⁹ And God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. ¹⁸ And he was very thirsty and called on Jehovah and said, You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant and now shall I die for thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? ¹⁹ But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi and water came out there. And when he had drunk his spirit came again and he revived. Therefore the name of it was called En-hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.

¹⁵ And David longed and said, Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

¹ As the male-deer pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after you, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

¹ O God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you, my flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where is no water.

³⁰ The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news make the bones fat.

⁷ How lovely are the feet of him who brings good news upon the mountains, who proclaims peace, who brings good news of good, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!

¹ Ho, everyone who thirsts, come you* to the waters. And he who has no money, come you*, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

¹⁴ Shall the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Or will the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?

¹⁵ Behold, upon the mountains the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah. Perform your vows, for the wicked one will no more pass through you. He is utterly cut off.

¹⁰ And the messenger said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good-news of great joy which will be to all the people, ¹¹ because there was born to you today in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

³⁷ Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and let him drink.

¹⁵ But how will they preach, if they are not sent? Just-as it has been written, ‘How Beautiful are the feet of those who are proclaiming the good-news of peace and of those who are proclaiming the good-news of good things!’

¹⁵ Faithful is the word and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost.

⁶ And he said to me, I have become the Alpha and the Omega, I am the beginning and the end. I will be giving freely to the one who is thirsty out of the spring of the water of life.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride are saying, Come. And he who hears, let him say, Come. And he who is thirsty, let him come. He who wills, let him take the water of life freely.

⁸ And Cain told Abel his brother. And it happened, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law and is taken into your council and is honorable in your house? ¹⁵ Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me. Do not let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father, for your servant knows nothing of all this, less or more.
¹⁶ And the king said, You will surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father's house. ¹⁷ And the king said to the guard who stood about him, Turn and kill the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.
¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, Turn and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned and he fell upon the priests and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore a linen ephod.

²¹ And they conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Jehovah.
²² Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. And when he died, he said, Jehovah look upon it and require it.

² Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh King of Egypt and say to him, You were compared to a young lion of the nations. Yet you are as a monster in the seas and you broke forth with your rivers and troubled the waters with your feet and fouled their rivers.

¹⁸ Does it seem a small thing to you* to have fed upon the good pasture, but you* must tread down with your* feet the residue of your* pasture and to have drunk of the clear waters, but you* must foul the residue with your* feet? ¹⁹ And as for my sheep, they eat what you* have trodden with your* feet and they drink what you* have fouled with your* feet.

³⁴ Because of this, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes, and out of them you will be killing and will be crucifying, and some of them you will be scourging in your synagogues and will be persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Assuredly I am saying to you, All these things will be coming upon this generation.
³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it!

⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a maidservant came to him, saying, You were also with Jesus the Galilean.
⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, I do not know what you are saying.
⁷¹ Now having gone out into the gate area, another one saw him, and says to those who were there, This one was also with Jesus the Nazarene.
⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
⁷³ Now after a little while, those who are standing by, came near and said to Peter, You truly also are one out of them; for even your speech makes it evident.
⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the man. Now immediately, the rooster crowed.

⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who proclaimed beforehand God’s message concerning the coming of the Righteous One; of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

¹⁵ The Jews, who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and banished us, and were not pleasing to God, and are adverse to all men;

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the holy-ones and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. And I marveled when I saw her– with great marvel!

¹⁶ Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you are filled with it and vomit it.

⁴⁴ How are you able to believe, receiving glory from one another, and yet you are not seeking the glory that comes from the God alone?

¹ It is not advantageous for me to boast! For I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

¹¹ I have become a boasting fool. You urged me to it. For I ought to have been commended by you; for I lacked in nothing over those preeminent apostles, even if I am nothing.

³ (nothing according to selfish ambition or through empty conceit, but in humility): deeming one another superior to yourselves;

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan and he said to him, You son of a perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother's nakedness?

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his house. For he is such a worthless fellow that a man cannot speak to him.

⁵ And he took courage and built up all the wall that was broken down and raised it up to the towers and the other wall outside and strengthened Millo in the city of David and made weapons and shields in abundance.

³ And they said to me, The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. Also the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and the gates of it are burned with fire.

³² He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty and he who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

²⁴ Make no friendship with a man who is given to anger and you will not go with a wrathful man,
