¹ Listen to my prayer, O God and do not hide yourself from my supplication. ² Attend to me and answer me. I am restless in my complaint and moan, ³ from the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked. Because they shake down iniquity upon me and they persecute me in anger.
⁴ My heart is greatly pained within me and the terrors of death have fallen upon me. ⁵ Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me and horror has overwhelmed me.
⁶ And I said, O that I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away and be at rest. ⁷ Behold, then I would wander far off. I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah. ⁸ I would hasten myself to a shelter from the stormy wind and tempest.
⁹ Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongue, because I have seen violence and strife in the city. ¹⁰ Day and night they go about it, upon the walls of it. Iniquity and mischief also are in the midst of it. ¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst of it. Oppression and deceit do not depart from its streets.
¹² Because it was not an enemy who reproached me. Then I could have borne it. Neither was it he who hated me that magnified himself against me. Then I would have hid myself from him.
¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my companion and my familiar friend. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together. We walked in the house of God with the crowd.
¹⁵ Let death come suddenly upon them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. Because wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.
¹⁶ As for me, I will call upon God and Jehovah will save me. ¹⁷ Evening and morning and at noonday, I will complain and moan. And he will hear my voice.
¹⁸ He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, because there were many by me.
¹⁹ God will hear and respond to them, (even he who abides of long-ago), Selah, men who have no changes and who do not fear God. ²⁰ He has put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him. He has profaned his covenant.
²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords. ²² (Cast your burden upon Jehovah and he will sustain you. He will not allow the righteous man to be shaken everlasting.)
²³ But you, O God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.

¹ Listen to my words, O Jehovah, Consider my meditation.

¹ O Jehovah, do not rebuke me in your anger, nor discipline me in your hot displeasure.

¹ Hear the righteous, O Jehovah, attend to my cry. Listen to my prayer, that does not go out from pretending lips.

⁹ Do not hide your face from me. Do not put your servant away in anger. You have been my help. Cast me not off, nor forsake me, O God of my salvation.

¹ To you, O Jehovah, I will call. My rock, do not be deaf to me, lest, if you are silent to me, I become like those who go down into the pit.

¹ Save me, O God, by your name and judge me in your might. ² Hear my prayer, O God. Listen to the words of my mouth.

¹ Hear my cry, O God. Attend to my prayer.

¹ Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

¹ Listen, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who sit above the cherubim, shine forth.

⁴ O Jehovah God of hosts, how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?

⁸ O Jehovah God of hosts, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Selah.

⁶ Listen, O Jehovah, to my prayer and listen to the voice of my supplications.

⁷ Make haste to answer me, O Jehovah, my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me, lest I become like those who go down into the pit.

⁸ Yes, when I cry and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.

¹² because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are toward their supplication. But the face of the Lord is against those who are practicing evil.

¹ How long, O Jehovah? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

³ Because I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all the day long.

⁶ I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long.

² Because you are the God of my strength. Why have you cast me off? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

¹⁹ But truly God has heard. He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

³ I remember God and I am in an uproar. I complain and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah.

⁹ Because I have eaten ashes like bread and mingled my drink with weeping, ¹⁰ because of your indignation and your wrath. Because you have taken me up and cast me away.

¹⁴ Like a swallow or a crane, so I chattered. I moaned as a dove. My eyes fail with looking upward. O Lord, I am oppressed, be my surety.

¹¹ We all roar like bears and moan greatly like doves. We look for justice, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far off from us.

³ And Absalom said to him, See, your matters are good and right, but there is no man appointed by the king to hear you.

⁷ And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Begone, begone, you man of blood and worthless fellow. ⁸ Jehovah has returned upon you all the blood of the house of Saul in whose stead you have reigned. And Jehovah has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son, and behold, you are taken in your own mischief because you are a man of blood.

¹⁹ And he said to the king, Do not let my lord impute iniquity to me, neither you remember what your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

⁵ Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy, now I will arise, says Jehovah. I will set him into the safety he breathes for.

⁹ from the wicked who oppress me, my deadly enemies, who encompass me around.

¹² Deliver me not over to the will of my adversaries. Because false witnesses have risen up against me and such as breathe out cruelty.

¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up, they ask me of things that I do not know.

³ Because strangers have risen up against me and violent men have sought after my soul. They have not set God before them. Selah.

¹¹ saying, God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, because there is none to deliver.

⁸ They scoff and utter oppression in wickedness. They speak loftily.

³⁴ To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth, ³⁵ to turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High, ³⁶ to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord does not approve.

⁵⁹ Now the high-priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking false testimony against Jesus, how they might slay him;

³ My soul also is greatly troubled. And you, O Jehovah, how long?

⁴ The cords of death encompassed me and the torrents of wickness made me afraid. ⁵ The cords of Sheol were all around me. The snares of death came upon me.

²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart and I am full of heaviness. And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.

³ Because my soul is full of troubles and my life draws near to Sheol.

³ Because my days consume away like smoke and my bones are burned as a firebrand. ⁴ My heart is struck like grass and withered, because I forget to eat my bread. ⁵ Because of the voice of my groaning my bones cling to my flesh.

³ The cords of death encompassed me and the pains of Sheol found me. I found trouble and sorrow.

¹⁰ I said, In the noontide of my days I will go into the gates of Sheol. I am deprived of the residue of my years. ¹¹ I said, I will not see Jehovah, even Jehovah in the land of the living. I will behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. ¹² My dwelling is removed and is carried away from me as a shepherd's tent. I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life. He will cut me off from the loom. From day even to night you will make an end of me. ¹³ I quieted myself until morning. As a lion, so he breaks all my bones. From day even to night will you make an end of me.

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be sorrowful and disheartened. ³⁸ Then he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful until death. Remain here and watch with me.

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John, and began to be utterly amazed and disheartened. ³⁴ And he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful until death, remain here and watch.

²⁷ Now my soul has been disturbed, and what should I say? Father, save me from this hour? But I came to this hour because of this.

⁸ For brethren, we do not wish you to be ignorant in regard to our affliction which happened to us in Asia, that we were burdened down surpassingly, beyond our power, so-that we despaired even to be living. ⁹ But, we ourselves have had the verdict of death in ourselves, in order that we should not have confidence in ourselves, but in God, who is raising up the dead; ¹⁰ who rescued us out of so-great a death and is rescuing us; in whom we have hoped that he will also still be rescuing us.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, has offered up both prayers and supplications with a strong outcry and tears to the one who was able to save him from death and having been heard from his piety.

¹⁴ And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise and let us flee, for otherwise none of us will escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down evil upon us and kill* the city with the edge of the sword.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which my spirit drinks up. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

⁶ Even when I remember, I am troubled and horror takes hold on my flesh.

¹⁵ Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him. ¹⁶ For God has made my heart faint and the Almighty has terrified me,

⁶ O my God, my soul is cast down within me. Therefore I remember you from the land of the Jordan and the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.

² From the end of the earth I will call to you when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

⁴ My heart wanders. Horror has frightened me. The twilight that I desired has been turned into trembling to me.

¹⁸ They will also gird themselves with sackcloth and horror will cover them. And shame will be upon all faces and baldness upon all their heads.

⁴⁴ And having become in agony, he was praying more intensely, and his sweat became like thick drops of blood going down upon the soil.

¹ I take refuge in Jehovah. How will you* say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your* mountain.

⁹ If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the outermost parts of the sea,

¹⁴ And the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, in order that she may fly into the wilderness to her place, that she may be nourished there for a time and times and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

¹ And David said in his heart, I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel, so I will escape out of his hand.

²¹ And it happened, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told king David. And they said to David, Arise and pass quickly over the water, for thus Ahithophel has counseled against you*.
²² Then David arose and all the people who were with him and they passed over the Jordan. By the morning light there lacked not one of them who was not gone over the Jordan.

⁴ Do not give sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids. ⁵ Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men, that I might leave my people and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

¹² then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin to receive his portion there in the midst of the people.

⁶ And there will be a pavilion for a shade in the daytime from the heat and for a refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain.

¹² Ah, the uproar of many peoples, who roar like the roaring of the seas and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters! ¹³ The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters, but he will rebuke them. And they will flee far off and will be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind and like the whirling dust before the storm.

²⁵ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and fell down upon that house, and it did not fall; for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone hearing these words of mine and who is not doing them, will be similar to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain came down and the rivers came up and the winds blew and hit that house and it fell and great was its fall.

³¹ And it was told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I beseech you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹ Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men and I will arise and pursue after David this night. ² And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed and will make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee. And I will only kill* the king, ³ and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned, so all the people will be in peace. ⁴ And the saying pleased Absalom well and all the elders of Israel.
⁵ Then Absalom said, Call now Hushai the Archite also and let us hear likewise what he says. ⁶ And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, Ahithophel has spoken after this manner. Shall we do after his saying? If not, speak.
⁷ And Hushai said to Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good. ⁸ Hushai said moreover, You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. And your father is a man of war and will not lodge with the people.
⁹ Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place. And it will happen, when some of them are fallen at the first, that whoever hears it will say, There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom. ¹⁰ And even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men. ¹¹ But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude and that you go to battle in your own person. ¹² So we will come upon him in some place where he will be found and we will light upon him as the dew falls on the ground and of him and of all the men who are with him we will not leave so much as one.
¹³ Moreover, if he is gathered into a city, then all Israel will bring ropes to that city and we will draw it into the river until there is not one small stone found there.
¹⁴ And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had commanded to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

⁷ As a well casts forth its waters, so she casts forth her wickedness. Violence and destruction is heard in her. Continually before me is sickness and wounds.

¹⁴ In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen a horrible thing. They commit adultery and walk in lies. And they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his wickedness. They have all of them become to me as Sodom and the inhabitants of it as Gomorrah.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who have been sent to her! How-often I willed to have gathered together your children in the manner a bird gathers together her brood under her wings, and you did not will it! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate;

⁴⁵ Therefore, the attendants came to the high-priests and Pharisees, and those men said to them, Why did you not lead him here?
⁴⁶ The attendants answered, Never, has a man spoken thus, like this man.
⁴⁷ Therefore the Pharisees answered them, You have not also been misled, have you? ⁴⁸ Not anyone from the rulers or from the Pharisees believed in him, have they? ⁴⁹ But this crowd who does not know the law are cursed.
⁵⁰ Nicodemus says to them (he who came to him by night, being one out of them), ⁵¹ Our law is not judging a man, if it does not hear from him beforehand and may know what he is doing, does it?
⁵² They answered and said to him, You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and behold that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.
⁵³ And they each traveled to his own house,

⁶ But when Paul knew that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of a Pharisee. I am being judged concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead. ⁷ But when he said this, there became a dissension from the Pharisees and the multitude was split-apart. ⁸ (For the Sadducees indeed say that there is no resurrection, neither messenger nor spirit, but the Pharisees are confessing both.)
⁹ Now there became a great outcry, and part of the scribes of the Pharisees stood up and were quarreling, saying, We are finding no evil in this man, but if a spirit has spoken to him, or a messenger, we should not quarrel against God. ¹⁰ Now when much dissension happened, the commander, being scared, lest Paul might be torn to shreds by them, commanded the army to go down and seize him from the midst of them, and lead him back into the encampment.

¹¹ And Saul sent messengers to David's house, to watch him and to kill him in the morning. And Michal, David's wife, told him, saying, If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be slain.

²¹ And Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's concubines that he has left to keep the house and all Israel will hear that you are a stink with your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong.
²² So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

¹ Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men and I will arise and pursue after David this night. ² And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed and will make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee. And I will only kill* the king,

⁶ They return at evening. They howl like a dog and go all around the city.

¹⁴ And at evening let them return, let them howl like a dog and go all around the city. ¹⁵ They will wander up and down for food and abide all night if they are not satisfied.

⁶ Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of wickedness and the act of violence is in their hands.
⁷ Their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of wickedness. Desolation and destruction are in their paths. ⁸ They do not know the way of peace and there is no justice in their goings. They have made them crooked paths. Whoever goes in it does not know peace.
⁹ Therefore justice is far from us, nor does righteousness overtake us. We look for light, but, behold, darkness, for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. ¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind. Yes, we grope as those who have no eyes. We stumble at noonday as in the twilight. We are as dead men in desolate places. ¹¹ We all roar like bears and moan greatly like doves. We look for justice, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far off from us.
¹² For our transgressions are multiplied before you and our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with us and as for our iniquities, we know them: ¹³ transgressing and denying Jehovah and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
¹⁴ And justice is turned away backward and righteousness stands afar off. For truth has fallen in the street and uprightness cannot enter. ¹⁵ Yes, truth is lacking and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
And Jehovah saw it and it displeased him that there was no justice.

⁴ And Jehovah said to him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and who cry over all the abominations that are done in the midst of it.

⁶ For they have made their heart ready like an oven, while they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all the night. In the morning it burns as a flaming fire.

¹ Woe to those who devise wickedness and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they desire fields and seize them and houses and take them away. And they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

¹ Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, to the oppressing city! ² She obeyed not the voice. She received not correction. She trusted not in Jehovah. She did not draw near to her God. ³ Her rulers in the midst of her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing till the morrow.

³ Therefore, having received the cohort and attendants from the high-priests and the Pharisees, Judas comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

²⁸ Therefore they lead Jesus from Caiaphas into the palace, and it was morning, and they themselves did not enter into the palace, in order that they might not be defiled, but in order that they might eat the Passover.

²⁴ but their pact became known to Saul. And they were guarding the gates both day and night that they might assassinate him.

⁹ Because there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their inward part is destruction. Their throat is an open sepulcher. They deceive with their tongue.

⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression. Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness.

² because they have opened against me the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue. ³ They have also encompassed me about with words of hatred and fought against me without a cause.

²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men. They watch as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap; they catch men. ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great and grown rich.

³ And they bend their tongue–their bow–for falsehood and they have grown strong in the land, but not for truth. For they proceed from evil to evil and they do not know me, says Jehovah.
⁴ You* take heed each one of his neighbor and trust you* not in any brother, for every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will go about with gossipers. ⁵ And they will deceive each one his neighbor and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They inwardly set up an ambush.

¹ Moreover the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? Then cause her to know all her abominations.
³ And you will say, The lord Jehovah says thus: A city that sheds blood in the midst of her, that her time may come and who makes idols against herself to defile her! ⁴ You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed and are defiled in your idols which you have made. And you have caused your days to draw near and have come even to your years.
Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a mocking to all the countries. ⁵ Those that are near and those that are far from you, will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult.
⁶ Behold, the rulers of Israel, each one according to his power, have been in you to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have made light of father and mother. In the midst of you they have dealt with the traveler by oppression. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow. ⁸ You have despised my holy things and have profaned my Sabbaths. ⁹ Slanderers have been in you to shed blood and in you they have eaten upon the mountains. In the midst of you they have committed lewdness. ¹⁰ In you they have uncovered their fathers' nakedness. In you they have humbled her who was unclean in her impurity. ¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law and another in you has humbled his sister, his father's daughter.
¹² In you they have taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase. And you have greedily gained from your neighbors by oppression and have forgotten me, says the lord Jehovah.

⁴ and they counseled together in order that they might take-hold of Jesus with treachery, and might kill him.

⁵¹ You are stiff-necked and non-circumcised in heart and ears. You are habitually defying the Holy Spirit, like your fathers, like you also! ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who proclaimed beforehand God’s message concerning the coming of the Righteous One; of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my hurt. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who have become great against me.

¹⁶ Because I said, Lest they rejoice over me. When my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me.

⁹ Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

¹⁵ Shall the axe boast itself against he who hews with it? Shall the saw magnify itself against he who wields it? As if a rod should wield those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up he who is not wood.

²¹ And while eating with them, he said, Assuredly I am saying to you, that one out of you will be giving me up.
²² And they were extremely sorrowful, and each of them began to say to him, It is not me Lord, is it?
²³ But he answered and said, He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, this one will be giving me up to the Jews.

¹⁸ I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me, lifted up his heel against me.’

² Now Judas, (who is giving him up), also knew the place, because Jesus gathered there often together with his disciples. ³ Therefore, having received the cohort and attendants from the high-priests and the Pharisees, Judas comes there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

²³ And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God; so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

⁴ You* take heed each one of his neighbor and trust you* not in any brother, for every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will go about with gossipers.

⁵ Trust you* not in a neighbor. Put you* not confidence in a friend. Keep the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.

⁴⁷ And while still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the high-priest and elders of the people. ⁴⁸ Now he who is giving him up, gave them a sign, saying, Whomever I kiss; he is the one; take-hold of him. ⁴⁹ And immediately he came to Jesus and said, Hail, Rabbi. And he kissed him.
⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, Comrade, to what purpose are you here? Then they came and put hands upon Jesus and took-hold of him.

⁴⁴ Now he who is giving him up had given them a predefined gesture, saying, Whomever I kiss, that is he; take-hold of him and securely lead him away. ⁴⁵ And having come to the place, he went immediately to him and says to him, Rabbi, Rabbi, and kissed him.

²¹ However behold, the hand of the one who is giving me up is with me at the table.

⁴⁷ While he is still speaking, behold, a crowd and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was going before them, and he drew near to Jesus to kiss him. ⁴⁸ But Jesus said to him, Judas, are you giving up the Son of Man with a kiss?

¹³ Therefore when Pilate heard this word, he led Jesus outside and sat down upon the judicial-seat in a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

⁴ These things I remember and pour out my soul within me, because I went with the crowd and led them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holy day.

¹ I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of Jehovah.

³ And many peoples will go and say, Come and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob and he will teach us of his ways and we will walk in his paths. For out of Zion will go forth the law and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

³¹ And they come to you as the people come and they sit before you as my people. And they hear your words, but do not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

³⁰ But if Jehovah makes a new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up, with all that pertains to them and they go down alive into Sheol, then you* will understand that these men have despised Jehovah.
³¹ And it happened, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them, ³² and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up and their households and all the men that pertained to Korah and all their goods. ³³ So they and all that pertained to them, went down alive into Sheol. And the earth closed upon them and they perished from among the assembly.
³⁴ And all Israel that were all around them fled at the cry of them, for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey and arose and got home to his city and set his house in order and hanged himself. And he died and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.

⁹ And Absalom chanced to meet the servants of David. And Absalom was riding upon his mule and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak and his head caught hold of the oak. And he was taken up between sky and earth and the mule that was under him went on.

¹⁴ Then Joab said, I will not delay thus with you. And he took three darts in his hand and thrust them through the heart of Absalom while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

¹⁷ Wicked men will be turned back to Sheol, even all the nations that forget God.

¹³ Consume them in wrath, consume them, so that they will be no more. And let them know that God rules in Jacob, to the ends of the earth. Selah.

⁷ But God will shoot at them. They will suddenly be wounded with an arrow.

²² Let their table be a trap before them, and to those at peace, let it be a snare.
²³ Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see and bow down their back continually.
²⁴ Pour out your indignation upon them and let the fierceness of your anger overtake them. ²⁵ Let their habitation be desolate. Let none dwell in their tents.
²⁶ Because they persecute he whom you have struck and they tell of the sorrow of those whom you have wounded. ²⁷ Add iniquity to their iniquity and do not let them come into your righteousness.
²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of life and not be written with the righteous.

⁶ Set a wicked man over him and let an adversary stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he is judged, let him come out guilty and let his prayer be turned into sin. ⁸ Let his days be few and let another take his office.
⁹ Let his sons be fatherless and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his sons be vagabonds and beg and let them seek out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let a creditor exact all that he has and let strangers make spoil of his labor.
¹² Let there be none to prolong kindness to him, nor let there be any to have pity on his fatherless sons. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off. Let their name be blotted out in the following generation.
¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with Jehovah and do not let the sin of his mother be blotted out.
¹⁵ Let them be before Jehovah continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth, ¹⁶ because he did not remember to show kindness, but persecuted the poor and needy man and the broken in heart, to kill.
¹⁷ Yes, he loved cursing and it came to him. And he did not delight in blessing and it was far from him.
¹⁸ He also clothed himself with cursing as with his garment and it came into his inward parts like water and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garments with which he covers himself and for the belt with which he is girded continually.
²⁰ This is the reward of my adversaries from Jehovah and of those who speak evil against my soul.

²⁴ The Son of Man indeed is going, just-as it has been written concerning him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is given up! It was

⁵ And tossing the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And having gone away, he hanged himself.

¹⁸ (Therefore indeed, this one procured a parcel of ground from the reward of his unrighteousness, and he happened to fall-flat and ruptured in the middle and all his bowels were poured out. ¹⁹ And it became known to all the dwellers in Jerusalem; so-that in their own language this place was called Akeldama, that is, The Place of Blood.) ²⁰ For it has been written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation become desolate and do not let there be one dwelling in it’and, ‘Let a different one take his overseership.’

²⁵ to receive the inheritance of this service and apostleship from which Judas transgressed, so as to travel on to his own place.

¹⁵ And call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you and you will glorify me.

²⁸ But it is good for me to draw near to God. I have made the lord Jehovah my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

⁴ They are my adversaries instead of my love, but I make prayer.

¹¹ But they were filled with madness, and were speaking with one another as to what they might do to Jesus.

¹² Now it happened in these days, that he went out into the mountain to pray, and he was persisting through the night in prayer to God.

⁷ Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard. I cry for help, but there is no justice.

² Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, because I pray to you. ³ O Jehovah, in the morning you will hear my voice. I will direct to you and will keep watch in the morning.

¹³ But to you, O Jehovah, I have cried and in the morning my prayer will come before you.

² to show forth your loving kindness in the morning and your faithfulness every night,

⁶² At midnight I will rise to give thanks to you because of your righteous ordinances.

¹⁴⁷ I anticipated the dawning of the morning and cried. I hoped in your words. ¹⁴⁸ My eyes anticipated the night-watches that I might meditate on your word.

² Let my prayer be set forth as incense before you, the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

¹⁰ And when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he knelt upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he did formerly.

¹³ Then they answered and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the sons of the captivity of Judah, does not regard you, O king, nor the interdict that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

³⁵ And exceedingly early, having risen up in the morning, while yet at night, he came out and went away into a desolate place, and he was praying there.

⁴⁶ And after he had bid farewell to them, he went away into the mountain to pray.

⁴⁸ And he saw them tormented by the rowing, for the wind was adverse to them, and he comes to them around the fourth watch of the night, walking upon the sea, and he was willing to have passed by them.

¹ Now he also spoke a parable to them, to show that it is essential for them to always pray, and not to be depressed; ² saying: A certain judge was in a certain city, who did not fear God and did not revere man. ³ Now a widow was in that city, and she was coming often to him, saying, Avenge me of my opponent. ⁴ And he did not wish to at that time, but after these things, he said in himself, Even if I do not fear God, and do not revere man; ⁵ yet because this widow is harassing me, I will avenge her, in order that she may not pester me, coming often for an end of her opponent.
⁶ But the Lord said, Hear with understanding what the judge of the unrighteousness says about himself.
⁷ Now, should God not do the avenging of his chosen who are crying to him day and night? Also, should he not have patience upon them?

¹ Now Peter and John were going up at the same time into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

³ He saw openly in a vision, at approximately the ninth hour of the day, a messenger of God who came to him and said to him, Cornelius.

⁹ Now on the next-day, while those men are traveling and drawing near to the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, around the sixth hour.

³⁰ And Cornelius said, Four days till this hour, I was fasting and praying in the ninth hour in my house, and behold, a man stood in my sight in bright apparel,

¹⁸ through all prayer and supplication praying in all seasons in the Spirit and watching in this same thing in all perseverance and supplication concerning all the holy-ones.

¹⁷ Pray constantly.

²⁸ And Ahimaaz called and said to the king, All is well. And he bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth and said, Praise Jehovah your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

¹ And David spoke to Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies and out of the hand of Saul:

¹⁶ And he answered, Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.

⁷ Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid nor dismayed of the king of Assyria, nor of all the multitude that is with him. For there is a greater with us than with him. ⁸ With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is Jehovah our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

⁶ I will not be afraid of ten thousands of the people who have set themselves against me all around.
⁷ Arise, O Jehovah. Save me, O my God. Because you have struck all my enemies upon the cheek bone. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.

¹ Jehovah is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? Jehovah is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?
² When evildoers came upon me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. ³ Though an army should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

² My enemies would swallow me up all the day long, because they are many who fight proudly against me.

³ He will send from heaven and save me from the reproach of him who would swallow me up. Selah. God will send forth his loving kindness and his truth.

¹⁰ All nations encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹¹ They encompassed me around, yes, they encompassed me around. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah. ¹² They encompassed me around like bees. They are quenched as the fire of thorns. I will cut them off in the name of Jehovah.

⁵³ Or do you think that I am not able now to plead with my Father and he will not stand beside me with more than twelve legions of messengers?

³³ Therefore having been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he has poured out this, which you are seeing and hearing now. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, ³⁵ until I should place your enemies as the footstool of your feet.’ ³⁶ Therefore, let all the house of Israel know with certainty, that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.

⁴ You are from God, my little-children and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

²⁷ The God of long-ago is your dwelling-place and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy from before you and said, Destroy.

⁵ You will answer us in righteousness by awesome things, O God of our salvation, you who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth and of those who are from afar off upon the sea,

⁵ They are not in trouble as other men, nor are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is as a chain around their neck. Violence covers them as a garment.

⁵⁹ When God heard, he was angry and greatly rejected Israel,

¹ Lord, you have been our dwelling-place in all generations. ² Before the mountains were brought forth, or you had ever formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

¹² And in your loving kindness cut off my enemies and destroy all those who afflict my soul, because I am your servant.

³² Because the backsliding of the simple will kill them and the careless ease of fools will destroy them.

¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

²⁰ Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth and he has settled on his lees and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, nor has he gone into captivity. Therefore his taste remains in him and his scent is not changed.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, which are little to be among the thousands of Judah, out of you he will come out to me who is to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from long-ago, from the days of everlasting.

¹² And it will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and I will punish the men who are settled on their lees, who say in their heart, Jehovah will not do good, nor will he do evil.

¹⁷ And he is before all things and all things are standing in him.

¹⁵ The Jews, who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and banished us, and were not pleasing to God, and are adverse to all men; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles in order that they might be saved; that they should always fill up their sins, but the wrath has arrived-unexpectedly upon them–to the end.

¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying, Until when, O holy and true Master, do you not judge and avenge our blood from those who dwell upon the earth? ¹¹ And a white robe was given to each, and it was said to them, in order that they should still rest themselves for a time, until both their fellow bondservants and those who are about to be killed as they were also, should be fulfilled.

¹⁷ And the king said to the guard who stood about him, Turn and kill the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

¹⁰ Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Jehovah had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. And some commanded me kill you, but I spared you. And I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord, for he is Jehovah's anointed.

⁴ And the men of Judah came and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were those who buried Saul.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron. And king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah and they anointed David king over Israel.

³² And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to you, saying, Come here, that I may send you to the king to say, Why have I come from Geshur? It were better for me to still be there. Now therefore let me see the king's face and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.
³³ So Joab came to the king and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as you* hear the sound of the trumpet, then you* will say, Absalom is king in Hebron. ¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem who were invited and went in their simplicity. And they did not know anything.
¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.

¹² And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, yet I would not put forth my hand against the king's son, for in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, (yes, I have delivered him without cause who was my adversary),

²⁸ I will keep my loving kindness for him everlasting. And my covenant will stand fast with him.

³⁴ I will not break my covenant, nor alter the thing that has gone out of my lips.

³⁸ But you have cast off and rejected. You have been angry with your anointed.

⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good and hatred for my love.

⁶ My soul has long had her dwelling with him who hates peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

² I say, Keep the king's command and that because of the oath of God.

¹⁶ As I live, says the lord Jehovah, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the midst of Babylon he will die.
¹⁷ Nor will Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons. ¹⁸ For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant. And behold, he had given his hand and yet has done all these things. He will not escape.
¹⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: As I live, surely my oath that he has despised and my covenant that he has broken, I will even bring it upon his own head.

¹ Now throughout that time, Herod the king put his hands upon some from the congregation to mistreat them. ² They speak falsehood everyone with his neighbor. They speak with a flattering lip and with a double heart.

³ Do not draw me away with the wicked and with the workers of wickedness, who speak peace with their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue is a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they pour out words with their mouth. Swords are in their lips, because they say, Who hears?

⁴ They only consult to thrust him down from his dignity. They delight in lies. They praise with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

³ who have flashed their tongue like a sword and have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,

³ Because the lips of a strange woman drop honey and her mouth is smoother than oil. ⁴ But in the end, she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

¹⁸ There is he who speaks rashly like the stabs of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is health.

²⁴ He who hates masquerades with his lips, but he lays up deceit within him. ²⁵ Because he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
²⁶ Though his hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness will be openly shown before the assembly.

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those whom it has wounded and a flattering mouth works ruin.

²⁵ Now Judas, (who is giving him up to the Jews), answered and said, It is not me, is it Rabbi?
He says to him, You have said so.

²⁰ And having observed him, they sent forth agents, who themselves pretended to be righteous, in order that they might grab him from his speech, that they might give him to the rule and the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach correctly, and do not accept the countenance of men, but in truth, are teaching the way of God.

² And it happened during supper, the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, in order that he should give him up.

⁹ He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness, for by strength no man will prevail.

⁸ I beheld Jehovah always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

⁵ Commit your way to Jehovah. Trust also in him and he will do it.

²⁴ Because if he falls, he will not be utterly cast down, because Jehovah upholds him with his hand.

¹⁰ As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me; while they continually say to me, Where is your God?
¹¹ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you in an uproar within me? Hope in God, because I will yet praise him, the help of my countenance and my God.

²⁵ Because of this, I am saying to you, Do not be anxious for your life, what you may eat and what you may drink; nor for what you may clothe your body with. Is not the life worth more-than the nourishment and the body worth more-than the clothing?

³¹ Therefore do^\'b0 not be anxious, saying, What should we eat? or, What should we drink? or, What should we dress ourselves with? ³² For the Gentiles are seeking after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you have needs of all these things. ³³ But first seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ³⁴ Therefore do not be anxious for the next-day; for the next-day will be anxious enough for the things of itself. Its evil is enough for the one day.

²⁸ Come-here to me, all you who labor and have been loaded down, and I will be giving-rest to you.

²² Now he said to his disciples, Because of this, I am saying to you, Do not be anxious for your life, what you might eat; nor yet what you might clothe your body with.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they are following me, ²⁸ and I give to them everlasting life, and they may never perish and not anyone will be taking them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them to me, he is greater than all, and no one is able to take them out of my Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one.

⁶ Be anxious in nothing, but in everything, let your requests be made known to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. ⁷ And the peace of God, which is superior to all perception, will be guarding your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

⁵ who are kept through faith in the power of God, into a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

⁷ having tossed forth all your anxiety upon him, because there is care concerning you with him.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly and killed* him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

⁵ Moreover you also know what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, even what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed and shed the blood of war in peace and put the blood of war upon his belt that was about his loins and in his shoes that were on his feet. ⁶ Do therefore according to your wisdom and do not let his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

³² It will be accomplished before his time and his branch will not be green.

⁶ You will destroy those who speak lies. Jehovah abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

¹⁵ He has made a pit and dug it and has fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His mischief will return upon his own head and his violence will come down upon his own scalp.

² O my God, in you I have trusted. Do not let me be put to shame. Do not let my enemies triumph over me.

⁹ Before your* pots can feel the thorns, he will take them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike.

¹² for the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips. Let them even be taken in their pride and on the cursing and lying which they speak.
¹³ Consume them in wrath, consume them, so that they will be no more. And let them know that God rules in Jacob, to the ends of the earth. Selah.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You cast them down to destruction.

²⁷ The fear of Jehovah prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.

¹¹ Sheol and Abaddon are before Jehovah, also the hearts of the sons of men!

²⁰ Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied and the eyes of man are never satisfied.

¹⁷ Do not much wrong, nor be a fool. Why should you die before your time?

¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness. But you have by love for my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption. For you have cast all my sins behind your back.
