¹ On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they went to the sepulchre with the spices they had provided, accompanied by several others.

⁵⁵ And several women were there who look'd on at a distance, and had followed Jesus from Galilee, to assist him with their service. ⁵⁶ among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and of Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

¹ The sabbath being over, and the first day of the week beginning to dawn, Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, came to see the sepulchre. ² now there had been a great earthquake; for an angel of the lord descending from heaven, was come, and had rolled away the stone from the door, and was sitting upon it. ³ his aspect was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. ⁴ for fear of whom the keepers shook, and were almost struck dead. ⁵ but the angel spoke to the woman, and said, don't be frighted, I know you are seeking Jesus, who was crucified. ⁶ he is not here: he is risen according to his word: come, see the place where the Lord was laid. ⁷ then go immediately to tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and that, he goes before you into Galilee, there shall ye see it is him; 'tis I that say it. ⁸ And they instantly left the sepulchre, with fear and joy, and ran to carry his disciples this good news.

⁴⁰ there were likewise several women, who were spectators at a distance: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the minor, and of Joses and Salome:

¹ When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, after having bought aromatic drugs to embalm him, ² went to the sepulchre very early in the morning, the first day of the week, at sun-rising. ³ and they said to one another, who will remove the stone from the mouth of the sepulchre for us? ⁴ (for it was very great.) but when they were near in view, they perceiv'd that the stone was roll'd away. ⁵ upon their entring into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting towards the right, cloathed in a long white garment: at which they were frighted. ⁶ but he said to them, don't be frightned: you look for Jesus the Nazarene: he is risen, he is not here: see the place where he lay. ⁷ go, tell Peter and the rest of his disciples, that he is gone before you into Galilee: there you will see him, as he foretold you. ⁸ at this they started out, and fled from the sepulchre in a violent consternation, without speaking a word to any by the way: they were so frighted.

² and several women, who had been delivered from evil spirits and cured of their diseases: particularly Mary Magdalene, who had been dispossess'd of seven demons: ³ Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's high-steward: Susanna, and several others, who assisted him with their fortunes.

⁵⁵ the women therefore, who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee, followed Joseph, to the sepulchre, to see how the body was disposed of. ⁵⁶ then they went home, and provided spices and perfumes: after which they rested the sabbath-day, as the law appointed.

¹⁰ it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and others with them, who gave the apostles this relation:

¹ The first day of the week early in morning Mary Magdalene, when it was yet dusky, came to the sepulchre, and found the stone was taken away from the sepulchre. ² upon this she went in great haste to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, they have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
