³ Ouerthrow theyr alters and breake theyr pyllers, & burne theyr groues wyth fyre & hew downe the ymages of theyr Goddes, and brynge the names of them to naught out of that place.

⁵ And the prophete or dreamer of dreames shal dye for it bicause he hath spoken to turne you away from the Lorde your God whyche brought you out of the land of Egipt & deliuered you out of the house of bondage, to thrust the out of the waye whiche the Lord thy God commaunded the to walke in: and so thou shalte put euyl away from the. ⁶ If thy brother the sonne of thy mother or thine own sonne or the daughter of the wife that lieth in thy bosome or thy frende which is as thyne owne soule vnto the, entyce the secretely saying, let vs go & serue straung Goddes which thou hast not knowne nor yet thy fathers of the gods, ⁷ of the people which are round aboute the, whether they be nye vnto the, or farre of from the, from the one end of the lande vnto the other. ⁸ Se thou consente not vnto him, nor herken vnto him: no let not thyne eye pity him nor haue compassion on him nor kepe hym secrete, but cause hym to be slaine. ⁹ Thine hande shall be first vpon him to kyl him, & then the handes of all the people.

⁴⁰ Then sayd Eliah vnto them: lay handes on the Prophetes of Baal, let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Eliah brought them doune vnto the broke of Kison, and slue them there.

²⁵ And as sone as he had made an ende of offeryng of burntsacrifyce, he sayde to them of the garde & to the Lordes, go in and sley them, let none come oute. And they smote them with the edge of the swerde. And the garde and the Lordes caste them oute, and went vnto the cytye of the house of Baal, ²⁶ and fet oute the Image oute of the house of Baal, and burnte it. ²⁷ And they brake the Image of Baal, & brake the house of Baal, and made a sege of it euer after. ²⁸ And so Iehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.

And he sat hym doune on the seate of the kynges.

⁴ He put awaye the hyllaultares & brake the Images, & cut doune the groues, & all to brake the brasen serpente that Moses made. For vnto those dayes the chyldren of Israell dyd burne sacryfyce to it, and called it Nehustan.

⁴ so that they brake doune the aulters of Baals euen in his presence, and the ydoles that were vpon them, he caused to be destroyed. And the groues, kerued Images, & Images of metall he brake and made dust of them, and strawed it vpon the graues of them that had offered to them.

⁷ he plucked a sondre the aulers & the groues and dyd beate them and stampe them to poudre, & bete doune the ydoles thorowout all the lande of Israell: & then returned to Ierusalem agayne.

¹⁸ But the ydoles shall vtterly be roted oute.

² And then (saieth the lord of hostes) I will destroye the names of Idols out of the land: so that they shal nomore be put in remembraunce. As for the false prophetes also & the vnclene spirit, I shal take them out of the land: ³ so that yf any of them prophecy any more, hys owne father and mother that begat him, shal saye vnto him: Thou shalt dye, for thou speakest lyes vnder the name of the Lord: yea his owne father and mother that begat him, shal wound him, when he prophecieth.
