¹ Then the Lorde sayed vnto Abram. Get the out of thy contrye and frome thy kyndred, and oute of thy fathers house, into a Lande whyche I wyll shewe the. ² And I wyll make of the a myghty people, and wyll blesse the, and make thy name greate, that thou maiste be a blessynge. ³ And I wyl blesse them that blesse the and cursse them that cursse the. And in the shal be blessed al the generations of the earth. ⁴ And Abram went as the lord badde hym, and Lot wente wyth hym. Abram was .lxxv. yere olde when he went out of Haran. ⁵ And Abram toke Sarai hys wyfe, and Lot hys brothers son, wt al their goodes which they had gotten, and soules whiche they had begotten in Haran. And they departed in goo into the Lande of Canaan. ⁶ And when they were come into the Lande of Canaan, Abram went forthe into the Lande tyl he came vnto a place called Sichem, & vnto the oke of More. And the Kananytes dwelled then in the lande. ⁷ Then the Lorde appeared vnto Abram & sayd: vnto thy seed wyll I gyue this lande. And he builded an aulter ther vnto the Lord whyche appeared vnto hym. ⁸ Then departed he thence vnto a mountayne that lyeth on the east syde of Bethell & pitched hys tente: Bethel beynge on the west syde, and Ay on the east: and he builded there an aulter vnto the Lord, & called on the name of the Lorde. ⁹ And then Abram departed and toke hys iourney southwarde. ¹⁰ After thys ther came a derth in the lande. And Abram went downe into Egypte, to soiourne ther, for the derth was sore in the land. ¹¹ And when he was come nye for to enter into Egypte, he sayed vnto Sarai hys wyfe. Behold, I knowe that thou art a fayre woman to loke vpon. ¹² It wyll come to passe therfore when the Egyptyans se the, that they wyll saye: she is hys wyfe. And so shall they sley me and saue the. ¹³ Saye I pray the therfore that thou arte my sister that I maye fare the better by reason of the, and that my soule may lyue for thy sake. ¹⁴ As soone as he came into Egypte, the Egypsians saw the woman that she was very fayre. ¹⁵ And Pharaos Lodres sawe hir also, & praysed hyr vnto Pharao: So that she was taken into Pharaos house, ¹⁶ which entreated Abram wel for hir sake, so that he had shepe oxen, & he Asses, men seruauntes, mayd seruantes, she asses, and camels. ¹⁷ But God plaged Pharao, and his house wt greate plages, bycause of Sarai Abrams wyfe. ¹⁸ Then Pharao called Abram & sayed: Whi hast thou thus dealt wt me? Wherfore toldest thou me not that she was thy wyfe? ¹⁹ Why saydest thou, that she was thy sister, & causedeste me to take hyr to my wyfe? But nowe loo, there is thy wyfe, take hyr and be walkynge. ²⁰ Pharao also gaue a charge vnto his menne ouer Abram, to leade hym oute, with hys wyfe, and all that he had.

³¹ Then toke Terah Abram hys sonne, & Lot hys sonne, Harans sonne, & Sarai hys daughter in lawe, hys sonne Abrams wyfe. And they went wyth him from Or in Chaldea, to goo into the Lande of Canaan. And they came to Haran and dwelled there. ³² And when Terah was two hundred yere olde and fyue, he dyed in Haran.

⁷ And he sayd vnto hym: I am the Lord that brought the oute of Or in Chaldea to geue the thys lande to possesse it.

² And Iosua sayde vnto all the people, thus saith the Lord God of Israel: your fathers dwelt on the other syde of the floude in olde tyme euen Thareh the father of Abraham and Nachor, and serued straunge Goddes. ³ But I toke youre father Abraham from the other syde of the floude, and brought hym into the lande of Canaan, & multyplyed hys seede, and gaue hym Isaac

⁷ Thou arte the Lorde God, thou haste chosen Abram, & broughtest hym oute of Vr in Chaldea, & calledst hym Abraham,

¹⁰ Herken (O daughter) considre, & enclyne thyne eare: forget thyne owne people, & thy fathers house. ¹¹ So shall the kynge haue pleasure in thy beuty, for he is thy Lorde, & thou shalte worshyp hym.

⁹ whom I led from the endes of the earth by the hande: For I called the from farre, and sayde vnto the: Thou shalt be my seruaunt: I haue chosen the, and will not cast the awaye:

² Consydre Abraham youre father, & Sara that bare you: how that I called him alone prospered hym well, & encreased him:

²⁴ Thou sonne of man, these that dwell in the wasted land of Israel, sayde: Abraham was but one man, & he had the lande in possessyon: now are we manye, & the lande is geuen vs to possesse also.

²⁶ If a man come to me, and hate not hys father and mother, and wyfe, and chyldren and brethren & systers, moreouer and hys owne lyfe, he can not be my disciple. ²⁷ And whosoeuer beare not his crosse, and come after me can not be my disciple. ²⁸ Which of you disposed to buylde a tower, sitteth not doune before, & counteth the costes whether he haue sufficient to performe it, ²⁹ leste after he hath layde the foundacion, and is not able to performe it, all that beholde it beginne to mocke hym, ³⁰ saiyng: this man beganne to buylde, and was not able to make an end. ³¹ Or what kynge goeth to make batayle agaynste another kynge, & sytteth not doune fyrste, and casteth in hys mynd, whyther he be able with ten thousande to mete hym that cometh against him with twentye thousande. ³² Or els whyle the other is yet a great waye of, he wyll send embassetours, and desire peace. ³³ So likewise none of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, can be my discyple.

² And he sayde: ye men, brethren, and fathers, harken to. The God of glorye appeared vnto our father Abraham whyle he was yet in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, ³ & saied to him: come oute of thy countrey & from thy kynred, and come into the lande, whiche I shall shewe the. ⁴ Then came he out of the lande of Chaldey, and dwelt in Charran. And after that assone as his father was dead he brought him into thys lande, in whiche ye now dwell, ⁵ and he gaue him none inheritaunce in it, no not the bredeth of a fote: but promised that he would geue it to hym to possesse, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no chylde. ⁶ God verely spake on this wyse that his sede should be a dweller in a straung land, & that they should kepe them in bondage & entreate them euyll .iiij.C. yeares.

¹⁷ Wherfore come out from among them, and separate youre selues (sayeth the Lorde) and touche none vncleane thynge: so wyll I receyue you,

⁸ By fayth Abraham, when he was called obeyed, to go out into a place, which he shoulde afterward receyue to inherytaunce, and he wente oute not knowynge whyther he should go.

⁴ And I hearde another voice from heauen say: Come awaye from her my people, that ye be not partakers in her sinnes, & that ye receiue not of her plages.

¹⁶ And I wyll make thy sede, as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can numbre the duste of the earth, then shall thy sede also be numbred.

¹⁴ When Abram heard that hys brother was taken, he harnesed hys seruantes borne in his owne house, thre hundred & eyghtene, and folowed tyll they came at Dan. ¹⁵ And set hym selfe & hys seruantes in aray, & fel vpon them by nyght, & smote them, & chased them awaye vnto Hobba: which lyeth on the lyft hand of Damascos, ¹⁶ & brought agayn al the goodes, and also hys brother Lot, and hys goodes the women also and the people.

⁵ And he brought him out of the dores, & sayd: loke vp vnto heauen, & tel the stars, if thou be able to numbre them. And said vnto hym: Euen so shal thy sede be.

⁴ I am, beholde my testament is wt the, that thou shalt be a father of many nacions. ⁵ Therfore, shalt thou no more be called Abram, but thy name shalbe Abraham: for a father of many nacions haue I made the, ⁶ and I wyll multyplye the excedyngly, and wyll make nacions of the: yea & kynges shal sprynge out of the.

¹⁸ seynge that Abraham shal be a great & a myghtie people, & all the nacions of the erth shalbe blessed in him?

²⁹ But yet when God destroyed the cyties of the region, he thought vpon Abraham: & sent Lot out from the danger of the ouerthrowinge, when he ouerthrewe the cyties where Lot dwelled.

¹⁷ that I wyll blesse the & multiplie thy seed as the starres of heauen and as the sande vpon the sea syde. And thy seed shall possesse the gates of hys enymies. ¹⁸ And in thy seed shal al the nacions of the erth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voyce.

³⁵ and the Lorde hath blessed my master out of measure, that he is become greate, & hath geuen hym shepe oxen, siluer & golde, men seruantes maydeseruantes, camels and asses.

⁴ & wyl multiply thy sede as the stars of heauen, & will gyue vnto thy sede al these contries. And thorow thi sede shal all the nacions of the earth be blessed,

²⁹ People be thy seruauntes, & nations bowe vnto the. Be Lord ouer thy brethren, & thy mothers chyldren stoupe vnto the. Curssed be he that curseth the, & blessed be he that blesseth the.

³ And God almyghty blesse the, encrease the, and multiply the that thou mayst be a numbre of people, ⁴ and giue the the blessing of Abraham: both to the, and to thy sede with the, that thou mayst possesse the Lande (wherein thou arte a straunger) whych God gaue vnto Abraham

¹⁴ And thy sede shal be as the dust of the earth: and thou shalt spreade abrode: weste, easte, north, and south. And thorowe the and thy sede shal al the kynreds of the earth be blessed.

¹¹ And God sayd vnto hym: I am God almighty, growe & multiplye: for people and a multitude of people shall sprynge of the, yea & kinges shal come out of thy loynes.

³ And he sayde: I am the myghtie God of thy father, feare not to goo doune in to Egypte. For I wyl make of the a great people.

⁷ the chyldren of Israell grewe, encreased multiplied, & waxed exceadyng myghtye: so that the land was full of them.

¹⁰ & and nowe therfore suffer me that my wrath may waxe hote vpon them, and that I may consume them and then wyl I make of the a mightye people.

¹² I wyll smyte them wyth the pestilence and destroy them, & wyll make of the a greater nacion & a myghtier then they.

⁹ He touched hym selfe & laye downe as a lyon and as a lyones, who shall sterre him vp, blessed is he that blesseth the, & cursed is he that curseth the. ¹⁰ And Balac was wroth wyth Balam and smote hys hands togyther, & sayd vnto him: I sent for the to curse myne enemies: and behold, thou hast blessed them thys thre times

⁵ And thou shalt answere and saye before the Lord thy God: The Syrians wolde haue destroied my father, and he went doune into Egypte and soiourned there with a fewe folcke and grewe there vnto a nacyon greate, mightie and ful of people.

⁹ And I was wyth the in all that thou wentest to, & haue destroyed all thyne enemyes out of thy syght, and haue made the a great name, lyke vnto the name of the great men of the world.

⁴⁷ And moreouer the kynges seruauntes went in to blesse oure Lorde Kynge Dauid sayinge: thy God make the name of Salomon more fauoure then thyne, and hys seate more gloriouse then thyne. And the king bowed him selfe vpon the bede.

⁸ And thy seruaunt is in the myddes of thy people which thou hast chosen, a people that are so many that they can not be told nor nombred for multitude. ⁹ Geue therfore vnto thy seruaunt an vnderstandynge herte to iudge thy people, & to decerne betwene good, and bad. For who is able to iudge thys thy so waightye a people.

²⁰ Thou shalt kepe thy truste wyth Iacob, and thy mercye for Abraham, lyke as thou haste sworne vnto oure fathers longe agoo.

¹¹ And he receyued the sygne of circumcysyon, as a seale of the ryghtuousnes whiche is by fayth, whiche fayth he had yet beynge vncyrcumcysed: that he shoulde be the father of all them that beleue, thoughe they be not circumcysed, that ryghtuousnes myght be imputed to them also:

⁷ Vnderstande therfore, that they whiche are of fayth, the same are the chyldren of Abraham.

¹⁴ that the blessyng of Abraham myghte come on the Gentyles thorowe Iesus Christ and that we myght receyue the promes of the spyryte thorow fayth.

¹⁸ And in thy seed shal al the nacions of the erth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voyce.

²⁷ Then sayd Laban vnto hym: If I haue founde fauoure in thy syght (for I suppose that the Lorde hath blessed me for thy sake)

³⁰ For it was but lytle that thou haddest before I came, & now it is increased into a multytude, & the Lord hath blessed the for my sake. But now when shal I make prouision for myne owne house also.

⁵ And as soone as he had made him ruelar ouer his house & ouer al that he had, the Lorde blessed this Egyptians house for Ioseps sake, and the blessynge of the Lorde was vpon all that he had: both in the house & also in the feldes.

²² But & if thou shalt herken vnto hys voyce & kepe all that I shal tel the, then I wilbe an enemy vnto thyne enemies and an aduersary vnto thine aduersaries.

⁹ He touched hym selfe & laye downe as a lyon and as a lyones, who shall sterre him vp, blessed is he that blesseth the, & cursed is he that curseth the.

¹⁷ Hys name shal endure for euer, his name shall remayne vnder the sunne amonge the posterites, which shalbe blessed thorow him and all the Heathen shall prayse hym.

⁴⁰ And the kinge shall aunswere and saye vnto theym: verelye I saye vnto you: in as much as ye haue done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye haue done it vnto me.

⁴⁵ Then shall he answere them, and saye: Verelye I saye vnto you, in as much as ye dyd it not to one of these little ones: ye dyd it not vnto me.

²⁵ Ye are the chyldren of the prophetes and of the couenaunt, which God hath made vnto our fathers saiynge to Abraham: Euen in thy sede shall all the kynredes of the earthe be blessed. ²⁶ Fyrste vnto you hath God raysed vp his sonne Iesus, and hym he hath sent to blesse you, that euery one of you shuld turne from your wickednes.

³⁰ And vnto him partaine ye in Christe Iesus, whiche of God is made to vs wysdome, and also rightuousnes, and sanctifiynge and redemption.

⁸ For the scripture sawe afore hand, that God woulde iustifye the heathen thorow fayth, & therfore shewed before hand glad tydynges vnto Abraham. In the shall all nacyons be blessed.

¹⁶ To Abraham and hys seede were the promyses made. He sayth not in the sedes as in manye: but in thy sede as in one, whiche is Christe.

²⁸ Nowe is there no Iewe neyther gentyle, ther is neyther bonde nor free: there is neyther man nor woman, but ye are all one thyng in christ Iesu.

³ Blessed be God the father of oure Lorde Iesus Christe, which hath blessed vs wyth all maner of spyrytuall blessynges in heauenlye thynges by Christe,

¹¹ where is neyther Gentile nor Iew, circumcysion nor vncircumcision, Barbarous or Sythian, bond or fre: but Christ is all in al thinges.

⁹ After this I behelde, and lo a greate multitude (which no man coulde numbre) of al nacions and people, and tonges, stode before the seate, and before the lambe, clothed wyth longe whyte garmentes, and palmes in their handes,

²⁷ And these are the generations of Terah. Terah begatte Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begat Lot.

³¹ Then toke Terah Abram hys sonne, & Lot hys sonne, Harans sonne, & Sarai hys daughter in lawe, hys sonne Abrams wyfe. And they went wyth him from Or in Chaldea, to goo into the Lande of Canaan. And they came to Haran and dwelled there.

¹⁹ And the costes of the Cananites were from Sydon tyll thou come to Gerara & to Asa, & tyl thou come to Sodoma, Gomorra, Adama, Zeboim, euen vnto Lasa.

²¹ Then sayed the kynge of Sodome vnto Abram: Giue me the solles, & take the goods to thy selfe,

⁵ And Iacob rose vp from Berseba. And the sonnes of Israel caryed Iacob their father, & their children & their wyues in the charettes which Pharao had sent to carie him. ⁶ And they toke their catel & the goodes which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came in to Egypte: both Iacob & al hys seed wyth hym, ⁷ hys sonnes and hys sonnes sonnes wt hym, hys doughters & hys sonnes doughters & all his seed brought he wt him into Egypte. ⁸ These are the names of the chyldren of Israel which came in to Egypte, both Iacob & his sonnes: Ruben Iacobs first sonne. ⁹ The chyldren of Ruben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hizron and Charmi. ¹⁰ The chyldren of Symeon: Iemuel, Iamin, Ohad, Iachin, Zohar & Saul the sonne of a Cananitish woman. ¹¹ The chyldren of Leui: Gerson, Rahath and Merari. ¹² The chyldren of Iuda: Er, Onan, Sela, Pharez & Zerah, but Er and Onan dyed in the lande of Canaan, The chyldren of Pharez, Hezron & Hamul. ¹³ The chyldren of Isachar: Tola, Phua, Iob and Semson. ¹⁴ The chyldren of Zabulon: Sered, Elon & Iaheleel. ¹⁵ These be the chyldren of Lea whiche she bare vnto Iacob in Mesopotamia with hys daughter Dina. All these soules of hys sonnes and doughters make .xxx. and .iij. ¹⁶ The children of Gad: Ziphion, Raggi, Suni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. ¹⁷ The chyldren of Asser: Iemna, Iesua, Iesui, Brya & Serah their syster. And the chyldren of Brya were Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the chyldren of Silpha whom Laban gaue to Lea hys doughter. And these she bare vnto Iacob in nombre .xvi. soules. ¹⁹ The chyldren of Rahel Iacobs wyfe: Ioseph and Beniamin. ²⁰ And vnto Ioseph in the lande of Egypte were borne: Manasses and Ephraim whiche Asnath the daughter of Putiphar prest of On bare vnto hym. ²¹ The chyldren of Beniamin: Bela, Becher, Asbel, Gera, Nacman, Ehi, Ros, Mupim, Hupim and Ard. ²² These are the chyldren of Rahel whiche were borne vnto Iacob .xiiij. soules al to gether. ²³ The chyldren of Dan: Husim. ²⁴ The chyldren of Nepthali: Zahezeel Guni, Iezer and Sillem. ²⁵ These are the sonnes of Bilha which Laban gaue vnto Rahel his daughter, and she bare these vnto Iacob, all together .vij. soules. ²⁶ Al the soules that came wyth Iacob in to Egypte whyche came oute of hys loyns (besyde hys sonnes wyfes) were al together .lx. and .vi. soules.

⁴ Then came he out of the lande of Chaldey, and dwelt in Charran. And after that assone as his father was dead he brought him into thys lande, in whiche ye now dwell,

¹⁵ Canaan also begat Zidon hys eldest sonne & Heth,

¹⁸ Aruadi, Zemari, & Harmati. And afterward sprange the kinreds of the Cananites. ¹⁹ And the costes of the Cananites were from Sydon tyll thou come to Gerara & to Asa, & tyl thou come to Sodoma, Gomorra, Adama, Zeboim, euen vnto Lasa.

⁷ And there fell a stryfe betwene the herdmen of Abrams cattell, and the herdmen of Lots cattell. Moreouer the Cananites & the Pheresytes dwelled at that tyme in the land.

¹⁸ And that same daye the Lorde made a couenaunte with Abram sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue this land, from the riuer of Egypt, euen vnto the greate ryuer Euphrates, ¹⁹ the Kenytes, the Kenizites, the Cadmonites, ²⁰ the Hethites, the Pherezites, the Raphayms, ²¹ the Amorytes, the Canaanites, the Gergesytes and the Iebusytes.

¹⁸ And Iacob came peasably into the cytye of Sichem in the Lande of Canaan, after that he was come from Messopotamia, & pytched before the citye,

² And Sichem the sonne of Hemor the Heuite Lorde of the countrey, saw hyr, and toke hyr, and lay with hyr, and forced hir:

⁴ And they gaue vnto Iacob all the straunge Gods whych were vnder theyr handes, & al theyr earynges which were in theyr eares, & Iacob hid them vnder an oke at Sichem.

³⁰ whiche are on the other syde Iordan on the backe syde of the waye towarde the goynge downe of the sunne in the Land of the Cananites whyche dwel in the feldes ouer against Galgal beside the groue of Moreh.

⁷ And they apoynted Kedes in Galile, in mount Nephthali, and Sychem in mount Ephraim, and kariatharbe, whiche is Hebron, in the mountaines of Iuda.

³² And the bones of Ioseph, whiche the chyldren of Israell brought oute of Egypte, they buryed in Sichem, in a parcell of ground which Iacob bought of the sonnes of Hemor the father of Sichem, for an hundreth peaces of syluer, which parcell became the enherytaunce of the chyldren of Ioseph.

¹ Then Ierobaal otherwyse called Gedeon rose erlye & all the people that were with hym, & pytched besyde the well of Harad, so that the hoste of the Madianites were in a valeye on the northsyde of the hyll Hamoreh.

¹ For Abimelech the sonne of Ierobaal went to Sichem, vnto hys mothers brethren, & communed wt them, & with al hys mothers, fathers kynred saying:

¹ And Rehoboam went to Sichem for all Israel were come to Sichem to make hym kynge.

⁵ Then cam he to a citie of Samaria called Sichar, beside the possessyon that Iacob gaue to hys sonne Iosephe.

¹⁶ and were translated into Sichem, and were put in the sepulcher, that Abraham bought for money of the sonnes of Emor, at Sichem.

⁹ By fayth he remoued into the lande that was promysed hym, as into a straunge countreye, and dwelte in tabernacles: and so dyd Isaac and Iacob, heyres wyth hym of the same promes.

²⁰ And Noe made an aulter vnto the Lord, & toke of all maner of cleane beastes, & all maner of clene foules, & offred sacrifice vpon the aultare.

⁸ Then departed he thence vnto a mountayne that lyeth on the east syde of Bethell & pitched hys tente: Bethel beynge on the west syde, and Ay on the east: and he builded there an aulter vnto the Lord, & called on the name of the Lorde.

⁴ and vnto the place of the aulter which he made before. And ther called Abram vpon the name of the Lorde.

¹⁵ for all the Lande whyche thou seest, wyl I gyue vnto the, & to thy sede for euer.

¹⁸ Then Abram toke downe his tent & went & dwelled in the okegroue of Mamre which is in Hebron, and buylded there an aulter vnto the Lorde.

¹⁸ And that same daye the Lorde made a couenaunte with Abram sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue this land, from the riuer of Egypt, euen vnto the greate ryuer Euphrates,

¹ When Abram was nynetye yere olde and .ix. the Lorde apeared to hym sayinge: I am the almyghtye God: walke before me and be vncorrupte.

³ And Abram fell on hys face. And God talked moreouer wyth hym sayinge:

⁸ And I wyl geue vnto the and to thy seed after the, the lande where in thou arte a straunger: Euen all the lande of Canaan, for an euerlastynge possession & wyl be their God.

¹ And the Lorde apeared vnto hym in the okegroue of Mamre as he sat in hys tent dore in the heate of the daye.

⁹ And when they came vnto the place whych God shewed hym, Abraham made an aulter there & dressed the wood, & bounde Isaac his sonne & layde him on the aulter, aboue vpon the wood.

³ soiourne in thys lande, and I wyll be wyth the, and wyll blesse the: for vnto the, and vnto thy seed, I wil giue al these contryes. And I wyl perfourme the oth which I sware vnto Abraham thy father,

²⁵ And then he builded an aultare there, and called vpon the name of the Lord, and there pitched hys tent. And ther Isaacs seruauntes digged a well.

¹³ yea, & the Lord stod vpon it, and sayed. I am the Lorde God of Abraham thy father, & the God of Isaac. The land whiche thou sleapest vpon wyl I gyue the & thy sede.

³⁰ And Iacob called the name of that place Pheniel for I haue sene God face to face, & yet is my life reserued.

²⁰ And he made ther an aulter, & there called vpon the myghty God of Israel.

³ and I appeared vnto Abraham, Isaac, & Iacob an almyghtye God: but in my name Iehouah was I not knowne vnto them.

¹ And the Lorde saide vnto Moses: departe and go hence: both thou & the people whych thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, vnto the lande which I swore vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob sayinge: vnto thy seed I wyl geue it.

¹¹ None of the men that came out of Egypte from twenty yere olde and aboue, shal se the lande whych I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, because they haue not contynually folowed me:

⁸ Beholde, I haue sett the land before you: goo in therfore & possess the land whiche the Lorde sware vnto youre fathers Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, to geue vnto them and their seade after them.

¹⁰ And when the lord thy God hath brought the into the land which he sware vnto thy fathers Abraham, Isaac & Iacob, to gyue the with great & goodly cityes which thou buildedst not,

²⁰ in that thou louest the Lord thi God, herkenest vnto his voyce, and cleauest vnto hym. For he is thy lyfe, & the length of thy daies, that thou mayst dwell vpon the earth whych the Lorde sware vnto thy fathers: Abraham, Isaac, & Iacob, to gyue them.

⁹ Yea the couenant that he made with Abraham, and the oth that, he sware vnto Isaac, ¹⁰ And appoynted the same vnto Iacob for a lawe, and to Israell for an euerlastynge testamente. ¹¹ Sayenge: vnto the wyl I geue the land of Canaan, the lot of your heritage. ¹² When there was yet but a fewe of them, and the straungers therin.

⁸ that is to saye, they whiche are the chyldren of the fleshe, are not the chyldren of God. But the chyldren of promise are counted the seede.

²⁸ Brethren we are after the maner of Isaac children of promes.

¹³ And they all dyed in fayth, and receyued not the promyses: but sawe them a farre of, & beleued them; and saluted them: and confessed that they were straungers and pylgrems on the earthe.

²⁶ And Seth begat a sonne, & called hys name Enos. And in that tyme began men to cal on the name of the Lord.

³³ And Abraham planted a wood in Berseba, and called there on the name of the Lorde, the euerlastyng god:

¹⁹ And he called the name of the place Bethell, for in dede the name of the city was called Lus

³ and let vs arise and go vp to Bethel, that I may make an aulter there vnto God, whyche hearde me in the day of my tribulation and was wyth me in the waye whyche I wente.

¹⁵ & called the name of the place wher God spake with him, Bethel. ¹⁶ And they departed from Bethell, & when he was but a feld breath from Ephrath, Rahel began to trauel. And in trauelynge she was in perell.

² Then Iosua sent men from Iericho to Ai which is besyde Bethauen, on the eastsyde of Bethel, and spake vnto them, sayinge: gette you vp and vewe the countreye. And the men went vp and spyed oute Ai.

³ And then Iosua arose, and al the men of warre, to go vp vnto Ai. And Iosua chose out thyrty thousand men of warre, and sent them by nyght.

¹⁷ So that there was not a man leaft in Ai, or in Bethel, that went not out after Israel. And they leaft the cytye open and folowed after Israel.

²² Betharabah, Zamarim, and Bethel,

³¹ The children of Beniamin of Gaba, dwelt at Machmas, Aia, Bethel and in theyr vyllages.

⁴ Then called I vpon the name of the Lord O Lorde: delyuer my soule.

²⁸ He shall come to Aiath, & go thorow towarde Migron. But at Machmas shall he muster his hoste,

³² And the time shal come, that whosoeuer calleth on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued. For vpon the mount Syon & at Ierusalem, there shalbe a saluacion, lyke as the Lorde hath promysed, yea & among the other remnaunte, whome the Lorde shall call.

²¹ And it shall be, that whosoeuer shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saued.

¹² There is no difference betwene the Iewe, & the gentyll. For one is Lorde of all whiche is ryche vnto all that call on hym. ¹³ For whosoeuer shall call on the name of the Lorde, shalbe safe. ¹⁴ But how shall they call on hym, on whom they beleued not? howe shall they beleue no hym of whom they haue not hearde? howe shall they heare withoute a preacher?

² Vnto the congregacyon of GOD whiche is at Corinthum. To them that are sanctifyed in Christ Iesu, saynctes by callyng with al that call on the name of oure Lorde Iesus Christe in euerye place, bothe of theyrs and of oures.

¹ Then Abram departed out of Egypt, both he and his wife, & al that he had, and Lot with hym vnto the Southe.

³ And he wente on hys iorney, from the South euen vnto Bethel, & to the place wher hys tent was at the fyrst tyme, betwene Bethel and Ap,

⁶² And Isaac was a commynge from the wel of the lyuynge & seynge, for he dwelt in the south contrey,

¹ And there fel a derth in the land passyng the fyrst derth that fell in the dayes of Abraham. Wherfore Isaac wente vnto Abimelech kynge of the Phylystyans vnto Gerar. ² Then the Lord appeared vnto hym and sayed: Go not downe into Egypte but hyde in the lande whych I say vnto the: ³ soiourne in thys lande, and I wyll be wyth the, and wyll blesse the: for vnto the, and vnto thy seed, I wil giue al these contryes. And I wyl perfourme the oth which I sware vnto Abraham thy father,

⁵ And the sonnes of Israel came to bye corne among other that came, for there was derth also in the lande of Canaan.

¹ And the derth waxed sore in the lande.

³ And he sayde: I am the myghtie God of thy father, feare not to goo doune in to Egypte. For I wyl make of the a great people. ⁴ I wyll go doune wyth the in to Egypt, and I wyll also bryng the vp agayn, & Ioseph shal put his hand vpon thyne eyes.

¹³ There was no bread in all the lande, for the derth was exceadyng sore: so that the land of Egypt & the land of Canaan, were fameshyd by the reason of the derth.

¹ In the tyme when the Iudges iudged, there felle a darth in the land. Wherfore a certayn man of Bethlehem Iuda went for to soiourne in the countrey of Moab wyth his wyfe and two sonnes.

¹ Then there fell an hongre in the daies of Dauid thre yeares, year by yeare. And Dauid enquyred of the Lorde. And the Lorde answered it is for Sauls sake and the house of bloude, because he slue the Gabaonites.

¹ And Eliah the Thesbite whyche was of the enhabiters of Galaad saide vnto Ahab: as truly as the Lorde God of Israel lyueth, before whome I stande, there shal be neyther dewe nor rayne these yeares, saue as I appoynt it. ² And the word of God came to him saying: ³ get the hence and turne the eastwarde, & hyde thy selfe in the broke Karith, that lyeth before Iordan, ⁴ dryncke of the ryuer for I haue commaunded the rauens to fede the herte. ⁵ And he went and dyd accordynge vnto the worde of the Lorde: he went and dwelt by the broke Karith that lyeth before Iordan. ⁶ And the rauens brought hym breade and fleshe euery mornyng and euery euenynge, and he drancke of the broke. ⁷ And it chaunced after a whyle that the broke dried vp, because there fell no rayne vpon the earth. ⁸ Then came the worde of the Lord vnto him sayinge: ⁹ vp, and get the to Sarephtha a citie of Sidon, and dwell there. Behold I haue commaunded a wydow there to sustayne the. ¹⁰ And he arose and went to Sarephtha. And when he came to the gate of the cytie, there was a wydowe there gatheringe stickes. And he called to her and sayd: fet me I pray the, a litle water in a dyshe that I may drincke. ¹¹ And as she went to fet it, he cryed to her and sayde: bringe me I praie the, a morsel of bread in thyne hande. ¹² And she answered: as surely as the lorde thy God lyueth, I haue no breade, but euen an handfull of mele in a pytcher, and a lytle oyle in a cruse. And se, I haue gathered a few styckes for to go & bake it for my and my sonne, that we maye eate it, and then dye. ¹³ And Eliah sayde vnto her: feare not, but go and do as thou hast sayde: but make me therof a lytle cake fyrst of all, and brynge it out to me: and afterwarde make for the and thy sonne. ¹⁴ For thus sayeth the God of Israel: the pitcher of mele shal not be wasted neither shall thy oyle cruse be withoute oyle, vntil the Lorde haue sent rayne vpon the earthe. ¹⁵ And she went and dyd as Eliah bad. And she and he and her house dyd eate a good space, ¹⁶ & the pitcher of mele wasted not, neyther was the oyle cruse withoute oyle accordynge to the worde of the Lorde whyche he spake thorowe Eliah. ¹⁷ And after these thinges, it happened that the sonne of the wyfe of the house fell sycke. And his sicknesse was so sore, that there was no breath left in him. ¹⁸ Then saide she vnto Eliah: what haue I done with the, O thou man of God? arte thou come vnto me, that my sinne shoulde be tought on & my sonne slayne?

³⁸ When Elizeus was come to Galgal agayne, there was a darth in the lande, & the chyldren of the prophetes dwelt with him. Then he sayde to his seruaunt, put on a great pot, and make pottage for the chyldren of the prophetes.

²⁵ And there arose great darthe in Samaria: for they had beseged it, vntyll an asses head was worth foure skore sycles of syluer, and the fourth part of a Cab of doues dong worth fyue sycles.

¹ Then Heliseus sayde: heare the worde of the Lorde, for thus sayth the Lorde: to morowe this tyme a boushell of fyne floure shalbe solde for a sycle, & two boushelles of Barley for another in the gates of Samaria. ² Then a great Lorde on whose hande the kyng leaned, aunswered the man of God and sayde, though the Lorde woulde make wyndowes in heauen, yet wolde not thys be. And he sayde agayne: Behold, thou shalt se it with thyne eyes and shalte not eate thereof. ³ And there were foure lepers set withoute the Gate of Samaria. And they sayde eche to hys companyon, what syt we here vntyll we dye? ⁴ though we thoughte that we myghte come into the cytye, yet is the darth so greate in the cytye, that we shall there dye. And yf we tarye here, we are but dead also Now therfor come and let vs flee to the hoste of the Siryans: If they save oure lyues, we shall lyue: And yf they kyll vs, then are we dead. ⁵ And so they arose in the darcke to go to the hoste of the Syryans. And when they were come to the syde of the hoste of Syrya: se, there was no man there. ⁶ For the Lord had made the hoste of the Syryans heare a noyse of charettes & a noyse of horsses, and the noyse of a great hoste. In so muche that they sayde one to another: se, the kynge of Israell hath hyred agaynste vs, the kynges of the Hethites & the kynges of Egypte, to come vpon vs. ⁷ And vpon that they arose, and fled in the darcke, & left theyr tentes, theyr horsses, theyr asses and the feld they had pytched euen as it was, and fled for theyr lyues. ⁸ And when these lepers came to the edge of the hoste, they wente into a tente, and dyd eate and dryncke, and caryed thence syluer, goulde and raymente, and wente and hydde it, and came agayne, and entred into another, & caryed thence also, and wente, and hyde it.

¹ Then spake Elizeus vnto the woman whose sonne he had restored to lyfe agayne, sayinge: vp & go both thou and thyne house & soiourne where thou thinkeste best, for the Lorde wyll call a darthe whiche shall come on the lande seuen yeare. ² And the woman arose and dyd after the saying of the man of God, & went both she & her houshold & soiourned in the lande of the Philistines seuen yeare.

¹⁹ Great are the troubles of the righteous, but the Lorde delyuereth them out of all.

³⁴ A frutefull lande maketh he baren, for the wickednesse of them that dwell therin.

¹ The worde of the Lorde shewed vnto Ieremye, concernynge the derth of the fruites.

³³ These wordes haue I spoken vnto you, that in me you myght haue peace. For in the worlde shall you haue tribulacyon: but be of good cheare. I haue ouercome the worlde.

¹¹ Then came there a derth ouer all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction, that our fathers founde no sustenaunce.

²² and strengthed the disciples soules exhortynge them to continue in the faith, affyrmyng that we must thorowe muche tribulacion enter into the kingdome of God.

¹⁴ As soone as he came into Egypte, the Egypsians saw the woman that she was very fayre.

⁷ And the men of the place asked him of his wife, & he said that she was hys sister: for he feared to call hyr his wyfe, lest the men of the place shold haue killed him for hir sake, bicause she was beutiful to the eye.

¹⁷ Lea was tender eyed, but Rahell was beutifull & well fauoured.

⁶ And therfore he left all that he had in Iosephs hande, & loked vpon nothing that was with him, saue only on the bread which he ate. And Ioseph was a goodly persone and a wel fauored. ⁷ And it fortuned after thys, that hys masters wyfe cast her eyes vpon Ioseph & sayd: come lye with me.

² And it chaunged in an euenynge that Dauid arose from hys couche & walked vpon the roufe of the kynges palace, & from the roufe sawe a very bewtyfull woman washing her selfe.

³⁰ There is no wysdome ther is no vnderstandyng, there is no councell agaynste the Lorde.

¹⁴ A cluster of grapes of Cypers, or of the vyneyardes of Engaddi art thou vnto me, O my beloued.

¹¹ And Abraham answered: I thought that peraduenture the feare of God was not in thys place, & that they shulde sley me for my wyfes sake:

¹ Then thought Dauid in his hert: I maye peryshe one daye or other by the handes of Israell. There is no better for me, then to flee into the lande of the Philistines, that Saul of very dispaire to finde me, may cease to seke me any more in all the coastes of Israhel: for so I maye escape his hande.

²⁵ He that feareth men, shall haue a fall: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lorde shall come to honoure.

²⁸ And feare ye not them which kil the body, and be not able to kill the soule. But rather feare him, which is able to destroy both soule & body into hell.

⁸ If we saye that we haue no sinne, we deceiue oure selues, and trueth is not in vs. ⁹ If we knowledge oure sinnes, he is faythfull and iust, to forgeue vs our sinnes, and to clense vs from al vnrightuousnes. ¹⁰ If we say we haue not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in vs.

²⁹ And Abram and Nahor toke them wyues. Abrams wyfe was called Sarai. And Nahors wyfe Mylca, the doughter of Haran whyche was father of Milca, & of Iesca.

² And Abraham sayde of Sara hys wyfe that she was hys syster. Than Abimelech kyng of Gerar sent and set Sara away.

⁵ sayde not he vnto me, that she was hys syster? yea and sayde not she herself that he was her brother? wyth a pure herte and innocent handes haue I done thys.

¹² yet in very dede she is my syster, the doughter of my father, but not of my mother: and became my wife. ¹³ And after god caused me to wandre out of my fathers house, I sayd vnto her: This kyndnesse shalt thou shewe vnto me in all places where we come, that thou saye of me, howe that I am thy brother.

³ O put not your trust in prynces, nor in any chylde of man, for there is no helpe in them. ⁴ For when the breath of man goeth forth, he shall turne agayne to his earth, and so all hys thoughtes perysh. ⁵ Blessed is he that hath the God of Iacob for his helpe, and whose hope is in the Lord hys God.

¹¹ For when wilt thou be abashed or fear seinge: thou hast broken thy promise, and remembrest not me, neyther hast me in thyne herte? Thinkest thou, that I also will holde my peace (as a fore tyme) that thou fearest me not?

⁵ Thus sayeth the Lorde: Cursed be the man that putteth his trust in man, & that taketh flesh for hys arme: and he, whose herte departeth from the Lorde. ⁶ He shall be lyke the heeth, that groweth in the wildernes. As for the good thing that is for to come, he shal not se it: but dwell in a drye place of the wildernes, in a salt and vnoccupied lande. ⁷ O blessed is the man, that putteth hys trust in the Lorde, and whose hope is the Lorde hym selfe. ⁸ For he shalbe as a tre, that is planted by the water syde: which spredeth out the rote vnto moystness, whom the heate can not harme, when it commeth, but his leaues are grene. And though there growe but lytle frute because of drouth, yet is he not carefull, but he neuer leaueth of to brynge forth fruite.

⁴ Beholde, all soules are myne. Lyke as the father is mine, so is the sonne myne also. The soul that synneth shal dye.

⁶⁹ Peter sate without in the palayce. And a damsell came to him saying: Thou also wast with Iesus of Galile: ⁷⁰ but he denyed before them al sayinge: I wote not what thou sayst. ⁷¹ When he was gone oute into the poorche, another wenche sawe hym, and sayde vnto them that were there. Thys felowe was also with Iesus of Nazareth, ⁷² and agayne he denyed with an oth that he knew not the man. ⁷³ And after a whyle came vnto hym they that stode by & sayde vnto Peter: surely thou art euen one of them, for thy speache bewrayeth the. ⁷⁴ Then beganne he to corse and to sweare that he knew not the man. And immediatly the cocke crewe. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembred the wordes of Iesu whiche sayed vnto hym: before the cocke crowe, thou shalt deny me thryse. And went out at the dores and wept bitterlye.

⁴⁴ Ye are of youre father the deuyl, and the lustes of your father ye wyll do. He was a murtherer from the begynnyng, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truthe in hym. When he speaketh a lye, then speaketh he of hys owne. For he is a lyar, and the father therof.

⁶ God forbyd. For how then shall God iudge the worlde? ⁷ Yf the veritie of God appeare more excellent thorow my lye, vnto hys praise why am I hence forth iudged as a synner? ⁸ & saye not rather (as men euyl speake of vs, and as some affyrme that we saye) let vs do euyll that good maye come thereof. Whose damnacyon is iuste.

²³ For the rewarde of sinne is death: but eternal lyfe is the gyfte of God, thorow Iesus Christ oure Lorde.

¹² For yer that certayne came from Iames, he eate with the Gentyls. But when they were come, he withdrue and separated hym selfe, fearyng them which were of the circumcysyon. ¹³ And the other Iewes dissembled lykewyse, in so muche that Barnabas was brought into theyr simulacyon also.

⁶ for which thynges sakes the wrathe of God commeth on the chyldren of vnbeliefe.

⁶ And the woman saw that it was a good tree to eate of, and lusty vnto the eies, & a pleasant tree forto geue vnderstandynge. And toke of the frute of it & ate, & gaue vnto her husband also wt her, & he ate.

² that sonnes of god saw the daughters of men that they were fayre, and toke vnto them wyues, which they best lyked among them all.

⁷ And it fortuned after thys, that hys masters wyfe cast her eyes vpon Ioseph & sayd: come lye with me.

²⁸ But I saye vnto you, that whosoeuer loketh on a wife, lustinge after her, hath committed adulterye with her alredy in his herte

² And Pharao was angrye wt them and put them inwarde in hys chefe marshals house:

¹ And it fortuned at .ij. yeres ende that Pharao dreamed, & thought that he stode by a ryuers syde,

⁵ And the daughter of Pharao came downe to the riuer to wash hir selfe & hir maidens walked a long by the riuers side. And when she saw the basket among the flagges, she sent one of hir maydes & caused it to be fet.

¹⁵ And Pharao hearde of it and went about to slea Moyses: but he fled from Pharao and dwelte in the Lande of Madian, & he sate downe by a wells syde.

¹ Then Salomon drewe affinite wt Pharao kynge of Egypte, and toke Pharaos doughter, and brought her into the citie of Dauid vntyll he had made an ende of buildinge his owne house, and to the house of the Lorde, and the walles of Ierusalem rounde about.

²¹ doeste thou truste to the staffe of this broken rede Egypte, on which yf a man lene, it wyll runne into hys hande & perce it. For euen so is Pharao kynge of Egypt vnto all that truste on hym.

² Then sayd the kynges seruauntes: Let there be fayre young virgins soughte for the king, ³ and let the king appoynte ouersears in all the landes of hys empyre, that they maye brynge together all fayre younge virgins vnto the castell of Susan to the wemens buyldynge, vnder the hand of Hagei the kynges chamberlayne, that kepeth the Wemen, and let hym geue them their apparell. ⁴ And loke whiche Damosell pleaseth the kyng, let her be quene in Vasthis steade. This pleaseth the kyng, and he did so. ⁵ In the castel of Susan there was a Iewe, whose name was Mardocheus, the sonne of Iair, the sonne of Semei, the sonne of Cis the sonne of Iemini, ⁶ whyche was caryed awaye from Ierusalem, when Iekoniah the kinge of Iuda was led awaye (whom Nabuchodozor the kinge of Babilon caryed awaye) ⁷ and he noryshed Hadasah (that is Esther) hys vncles doughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and she was a fayre and beutiful Damosel. And when her father and mother dyed, Marchodeus receyued her as hys own doughter. ⁸ Now when the kynges commaundement and commission was publyshed, and many Damoselles were broughte together vnto the castel of Susan, vnder the hande of Hagei, Esther was taken also vnto the kinges house vnder the hand of Hagei the keper of the wemen, ⁹ and the damosel pleased him, & she found grace in hys sighte. And he caused her oyntment to be geuen her, and her gyftes, & gaue her seuen notable gentyl wemen of the kynges house, and arayed bothe her and her gentyll wemen very richely in the house of the wemen. ¹⁰ But Esther shewed not her people nor her kynred: for Mardocheus had charged her that she shoulde no tell it. ¹¹ And Mardocheus walked euery daye before the courte of the wemens buyldynge, that he myghte knowe howe Esther dyd, and what shoulde become of her. ¹² And when the appoynted tyme of euery damosell came that she shoulde come to the kynge Ahasuerus, after that she had ben twelue monethes in the deckynge of the wemen (for their deckynge most haue so muche tyme, namely sixe monethes wyth Balme & Mirre, & syxe Monethes with good spices, so were the wemen beutyfyed) ¹³ then wente one damosell vnto the kinge, and whatsoeuer she required, that must be geuen her to go wyth her out of the wemens buylding vnto the kinges palace. ¹⁴ And when one came in the euenynge, that same went from hym on the morowe into the seconde house of wemen, vnder the hande of Sasagas the kynges chamberlain, whyche kepte the concubynes. And she must come vnto the kynge no more, excepte it pleased the kynge, and that he caused her to be called by name. ¹⁵ Now when the tyme came of Esther the doughter of Abihail Mardocheus vncle (whom he had receyued as hys owne doughter) that she shoulde come to the kyng, she desyred nothynge but what Hagei the kinges chamberlayne the keper of the wemen sayde. And Esther founde fauoure in the syghte of all them that loked vpon her. ¹⁶ And Esther was taken vnto kynge Ahasuerus into the house royall, in the tenth moneth whyche is called Tebeth, in the seuenth yeare of hys raygne.

⁴ Seke the Lord, and his strength, seke his face euermore.

²⁹ Euen so, whosoeuer goeth into hys neyghbours wyfe, and toucheth her can not be vngilty.

¹² If a prynce delyte iu lyes, all his seruauntes are vngodly.

¹⁹ Ye & Pharao the kinge of Egipt, his seruauntes, his prynces & hys people altogether one with anoth

¹⁷ Crye euen there: O Pharao kynge of Egipte, the tyme wyl bringe sedicion.

² Thou sonne of man, take vp a lamentacyon vpon Pharao the kynge of Egypte, and saye vnto hym: Thou arte reputed as a Lyon of the Heathen, & as a whalfyshe in the sea. Thou castest thy waters about the, thou troublest the waters with thy fete, and stampest in theyr floudes.

⁴ All these burne in aduoutrye, as it were an ouen that the baker heateth, when he hath lefte kneadynge, till the dowe be leuended. ⁵ Euen so goeth it thys day with oure kinges & princes, for they beginne to be wodde droncken thorowe wine, they vse familarite with suche as disceyue him.

⁴ Let wedlocke be had in pryce in all poyntes, and let the chambre be vndefyled: for whorekepers and aduouterers God wyll iudge.

² Abram was verye ryche in cattell, syluer, & golde.

¹⁴ Than toke Abimelech shepe and oxen, men seruauntes & wemen seruauntes & gaue them vnto Abraham, & delyuered hym Sara hys wyfe agayn.

¹⁴ that he had possession of shepe, of oxen, and a mighty housholde: so that the Philistians had enuye at hym:

⁵ and haue gotten oxen, asses, and shepe, menseruauntes & womenseruauntes, & haue sent to shew it my Lord, that I may finde grace in thy sight.

¹³ And he taried ther that same nyghte, and toke of that which came to hand a present, vnto Esau hys brother ¹⁴ .ij. hundred she gootes, and .xx. he gootes: .ij. hundred shepe, and .xx. rammes: ¹⁵ thyrtye mylch camels wyth their coltes .xl. kyne, and .x. bulles .xx. she asses, & .x. foles,

³ Hys substaunce was .vij.M. shepe .iij.M. camels .v.C. youck of oxen .v.C. she asses, & a very greate housholde: so that he was one of the moste principall men amonge all them of the east countre.

¹² And the Lorde made Iob rycher then he was before: for he had .xiiij.M. shepe .vi.M. camels, a .M. youcke of oxen, & a .M. asshes.

¹³ That oure garners may be full and plenteous with all maner of stoare: that oure shepe maye brynge forth thousandes and hundreth thousandes in our vyllages. ¹⁴ That our oxen may be strong to laboure, that there be no mischaunce, no decaye, & no complaynyng in our stretes.

¹⁸ For the lord had closed to, all the matryces of the house of Abimelech, because of Sara Abrahams wyfe.

²¹ He suffered no man to do them wronge. But rebuked kynges for their sakes.

²² And Dauid sayde to Ornan: geue me the place of the thressyng flour, that I maye build an aulter therin vnto the Lorde. Let me haue it for as muche money as it is worthe, that the plage may cease from the people.

¹⁹ Vngodly men are ye. He hath none respecte vnto the personnes of the lordlye, and regardeth not the ryche more then pore. For they be al the worcke of hys handes.

⁹ And Abimelech sente for Isaac, & sayed: see, she is of a suretye thy wyfe, & why saydest thou that she was thy sister? And Isaac said vnto hym: I thought that I myght peraduenture haue dyed for her sake. ¹⁰ Then sayd Abimelech: why haste thou done this vnto vs? one of the people myghte lyghtlye haue lyne by thy wife, and so shuldest thou haue brought synne vpon vs. ¹¹ Than Abimelech charged all his people, saying: he that toucheth this man or his wyfe, shall suerlie dye for it.

²⁶ Then sayd Laban to Iacob: Why hast thou thys done to steale awaye my herte, and carye awaye my daughters as though thei had bene take captyue wt the swerde?

¹⁵ And Ioseph sayde vnto them: what dede is thys which ye haue done? wyst ye not that soche a man as I can prophesye?

¹ The kinges hert is in the hand of the Lord, lyke as are the ryuers of water: he maye turne it whether so euer he wyll.

²⁷ And than Moses let hys father in lawe departe, and he went into his owne lande.

⁶ Then Achis called Dauid and sayde vnto hym. As sure as the Lorde lyueth thou art honest, and it pleaseth me wel that thou shouldest accompanye me in the host, for I haue founde none euyl with the sence thou camest to me vnto thys daye. Neuerthelesse the Lordes of the Philistines fauoure the not ⁷ wherefore returne and go in peace, that thou displease not the Lordes of the Philistines. ⁸ And Dauid said again to Achis: Why? what haue I done? and what hast thou found in thy seruaunt as long as I haue bene with the vnto thys day? that I may not go fyght against the enemies of my Lord the kynge. ⁹ Achis answered & sayde to Dauid: I wote well thou pleasest me, as it were an Aungell of God. Notwithstandyng the Lordes of the Philistines haue sayde, that thou shalt not go wyth them to battell. ¹⁰ Wherfore ryse vp erlye in the mornynge wyth thy masters seruauntes that are come wyth the. And when ye be vp erly as sone as ye haue light, departe. ¹¹ And so Dauid and hys men rose erlye to departe in the mornynge, and to returne into the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went vp to Iesrahell.
