¹⁰ Now when thou shewest thys people all these wordes, and they saye vnto the: Wherfore hath the Lorde deuysed all thys greate plage for vs? Or what is the offence & synne, that we haue done agaynst the Lord oure God?

²⁴ And then shal al nacions also say: wherfore hath the Lorde done of this facion vnto this lande? O how fearse is this great wrath? ²⁵ And men shal saye: because they lefte the testament of the Lorde God of their fathers which he made with them, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

⁸ And hys house which is so hye, al that passeth by it, shalbe astonyed, & shall hysse, & saye: why hath the Lord dealt on hys maner with this land & wyth thys house? ⁹ And it shalbe aunswered them, because they forsoke the Lord theyr God which broughte theyr fathers out of the lande of Egipt, & haue taken holde vpon other Goddes and haue stouped vnto hym, & serued them: therfore hath the Lord brought vpon them al thys euil.

³⁵ Yet darrest thou saye: I am giltlesse: Tush, his wrath can not come vpon me. Beholde, I will reason with the because thou darrest say: I haue not offended.

¹⁹ But yf they saye: wherfore doeth the Lord our God all this vnto vs? Then answere them: because, that lyke as ye haue forsaken me, & serued straunge goddes in your owne lande, euen so shall ye serue other Goddes also in a straunge lande.

²² And yf thou woldest saye then in thyne herte: Wherfore come these thinges vpon me? Euen for the multitude of thy blasphemyes, shall thy hinder partes and thy fete be discouered.

⁸ And all the people that go by this cytie, shall speake one to another: Wherfore hath the Lorde done thus vnto thys noble cytye? ⁹ Then shall it be answered: because they haue broken the couenaunt of the Lorde their God, & haue worshipped & serued straunge goddes.

⁸ Ephraim thinketh thus: Tush, I am ryche, I haue good ynoughe. In all my worckes shall not one fawte be founde, that I haue offended.
