¹⁶ All that I haue, shall go downe in to the pyt, and lye with me in the duste.

¹⁷ There must the wycked ceasse from their tyranny, there soch as are ouerlaboured be at rest: ¹⁸ there are those let out fre, whych haue bene in preson, so that they heare nomore the voyce of the oppressour: ¹⁹ There are small and greate: the bonde man, and he that is fre from his mayster.

¹³ He shall eate the strength of his skynne, the fyrste borne of death shall eate hys membres. ¹⁴ All his comforte & hope shalbe roted out of his dwellynge, very fearfulnesse shall bringe hym to the kynge.

¹⁸ kepeth hys soule from destruccyon, and his life from the swearde. ¹⁹ He chasteneth hym wyth sycknesse, and bryngeth hym to hys bedde: he layeth sore punyshment vpon hys bones, ²⁰ so that hys lyfe maye awaye wyth no bread, & hys soule abhorreth to eate anye dayntye meate. ²¹ In so muche that hys body is cleane consumed awaye, and hys bones apeare no more. ²² Hys soule draweth on to destruccyon, & hys lyfe to death. ²³ Nowe yf there be a messenger (one amonge a thousande) sent for to speake vnto man, and to shewe hym the ryght waye: ²⁴ then the Lorde is mercyfull vnto hym, & sayeth: He shalbe delyuered, that he fall not doune to destruccyon, for I am suffycyentlye reconcyled. ²⁵ Then hys fleshe (which hath bene in myserye and trouble) shalbe as it was in hys youth. ²⁶ For yf he submytte hym self vnto God he is gracyous, and sheweth hym his countenaunce ioyfully, and rewardeth man for hys ryghtuousnes. ²⁷ Suche a respecte hath he vnto men. Therfore let a man confesse (and saye) I offended, but he hath chastened and reformed me: I dyd vnryghteouslye, neuerthelesse he hath not recompensed me thereafter. ²⁸ Yea he hath delyuered my soule from destruccyon, and my lyfe, that it seeth the lyght.

⁴ I am counted as one of them that go downe vnto the pitte, I am euen as a man that hath no strength. ⁵ Fre among the dead, like vnto them that lye in the graue, whyche be out of remembraunce, and are cutte away from thy hand. ⁶ Thou hast layed me, in the lowest pytte, in the darcknesse and in the depe. ⁷ Thyne indignacion lieth harde vpon me, and thou vexest me wyth all thy floudes Selah. ⁸ Thou hast put awaye myn acquaintance farre fro me, and made me to be abhorred of them: I am so faste in pryson, that I can not get forth.

⁷ Heare me, O Lorde, & that soone, for my sprete waxeth faynte: hyde not thy face fro me, lest I be lyke vnto theym that go doune into the graue.

¹⁷ Neuertheles my conuersacyon hath so pleased the, that thou woldest not make an ende of my lyfe: so that thou hast cast all my synnes behynde thy back. ¹⁸ For hell prayseth not the, death doth not magnyfye the. They that go downe into the graue, prayse not thy trueth:

¹¹ Moreouer, he sayde vnto me: Thou sonne of man, these bones are the whole house of Israell. Beholde, they saye: Oure bones are dryed vp, oure hope is gone, we are clene cut of.

⁶ I went downe to the botome af the hylles, and was barred in wyth earth for euer. But thou, O Lorde my God, haste brought vp my lyfe agayne out of corrupcyon.

⁹ Also we receiued and aunswere of death in our selues, and that because we woulde not put oure truste in oure selues: but in God, whiche rayseth the dead to lyfe again,
