¹⁹ And why? he hath oppressed the poore, and not helped them: houses hath he spoyled, and not builded them.

³³ The frute of thy lande and all thy laboures shall a nacion which thou knowest not, eate, and thou shalt but suffre vyolence only & be oppressed alwaye:

³ Behold here I am: answere me before the Lorde & before his annoynted, whose oxe haue I taken? or whose asse haue I taken? whom haue I done wrong to? or whom haue I pylled? And of whose hand haue I receiued any bribe, to blynde myne eyes therewith? & I wyll restore it you agayne. ⁴ And they sayde thou hast done vs no wronge, nor pylled vs, nether hast thou taken ought of any mannes hande.

¹⁹ And saye vnto him: thus saith the Lorde, thou hast killed & therto gotten possession. And saie moreouer vnto him, thus sayth the lord: in the place where dogges lapped the bloude of Naboth, shall dogges lappe euen thy bloude also.

¹⁵ Other men shall dwell in his house (which now is none of his) and brymstone shalbe scatered vpon his habitacion.

²⁷ But I knowe what ye thincke, yea and what ye ymagin against me vnrighteously. ²⁸ For ye saye: where is the Princes palace? where is the dwellinge of the vngodly?

⁶ thou hast taken the pledge from thy brethren for nought and robbed the naked of their clothing.

² For some men there be, that remoue other mens landemarkes, that robbe them of their catell, and kepe the same for their owne: ³ that driue away the asse of the fatherlesse, that take the wyddowes oxe for a pledge: ⁴ that thrust the poore oute of the waie, and oppresse the simple of the worlde together. ⁵ Beholde, the wilde asses in the deserte go by tymes, as their maner is, to spoyle: Yea, the very wyldernesse mynystreth fode for their children. ⁶ They reape the corne feld that is not their owne and gather the grapes oute of hys vineyard, whome they haue oppressed by vyolence. ⁷ They are the cause that so many men are naked and bare, hauinge no clothes to couer them and kepe them from coulde: ⁸ So that when the showers in the mountaynes haue rayned vpon them, and they be all wet, they haue none other succoure, but to kepe them among the rockes. ⁹ They spoyle the sucking fatherlesse children and put the dore in preson. ¹⁰ In so muche that they let them go naked withoute clothinge, and yet the hungry beare the sheues. ¹¹ The poore are fayne to laboure in their oyle mylles, yea and to treade in their wyne presses, & yet to suffre thyrst. ¹² The whole cyty cryeth vnto the Lorde with syghynge, the soules of the slayne make their complainte. But God destroieth them not for al this,

¹³ Dyd I euer thinke scorne to do right vnto my seruauntes and maydens, when they had any matter against me. ¹⁴ But seynge that God will syt in iudgement what shall I do? And for so muche as he will nedes vpset me, what answere shall I geue hym? ¹⁵ He that fashioned me in my mothers womb, made he not him also? were we not bothe shapen alyke in oure mothers bodyes? ¹⁶ When the poore desyreth any thinge at me, haue I denyed it them? Haue I caused the wyddowe stande wayting for me in vayne? ¹⁷ Haue I eaten my porcyon alone, that the fatherlesse hath had no parte wyth me? ¹⁸ for mercy grewe vp with me from my youth, and compassion from my mothers wombe. ¹⁹ Haue I sene any man perysh thorow nakednesse and want of clothinge? Or any poore man for lack of rayment, ²⁰ whose sydes thancked me not, because he was warmed wt the wolle of my shepe? ²¹ Dyd I euer lyfce vp my hande to hurte the fatherlesse? yea in the gate where I sawe my selfe to be in auctoryte: ²² then let myne arme fall from my shoulder, and myne arme holes be broken from the yoyutes.

³⁸ But yf case be that my lande crye againste me, or that the forowes therof make any complainte: ³⁹ yf I haue eaten the frutes therof vnpaied for, yea yf I haue greued any of the plow men:

⁹ there is a great crye & complaynt made by them that are oppressed with violence, yea euerye man complayneth vpon the cruell arme of tyrauntes.

¹⁸ Helpe the fatherlesse and poore vnto their ryght, that the vngodlye be no more exalted vpon earh.

⁵ Now for the troubles sake of the oppressed, and because of the complainte of the poore I will vp (sayeth the Lord) I wil helpe them, & set them at rest.

³¹ He that doeth a poore man wrong, blasphemeth hys maker: but who so hathe pytye of the poore, doeth honoure vnto God,

²² Se that thou robbe not the pore because he is weake, & oppresse not the simple in iudgment: ²³ for the Lorde him selfe wyll defende their cause, and do vyolence vnto them that haue vsed vyolence.

¹ So I turned me, & considred al the violent wrong that is done vnder the sunne: & beholde, the teares of such as were oppressed, & there was no man to comforte them or that wolde deliuer & defende them from the violence of their oppressours.

⁸ If thou seyst the poore to be oppressed and wrongeously dealt withall, so that equite & the right of the law is wrasted in the lande: maruell not thou at such iudgement, for one great man kepeth touch with another, and the mightye helpe them selfes together.

⁷ As for the vyneyarde of the Lorde of Hostes it is the house of Israel, & whole Iuda hys fayre plantynge. Of these he loked for equyte, but se there is wronge: for rightuousnesse, lo, It is but miserye. ⁸ Wo be vnto you that ioyne one house to another, & bring one land so nyghe vnto another, tyll ye can get no more grounde. Wyll ye dwel vpon the earth alone?

³⁴ Lamed. To treade all the presoners of the earth vnder hys fete.

²⁹ The people in the lande vseth wicked extorcyon and robbery. They vexe the poore and nedye and oppresse the straunger agaynste ryghte.

¹ O heare thys worde ye fat kyne, that be vpon the hil of Samaria: ye that do poore men wronge, and oppresse the nedy: ye that saye to your Lordes: bring hyther, let vs drincke. ² Therfore the Lorde hath sworne by his holinesse. The dayes shal come vpon you, that ye shalbe lyft vp vpon speares, & your posteryte caryed away in fyshers panyers. ³ Ye shall get you out at the gappes one after another, and in Armon shall ye be caste awaye, sayeth the Lorde.

² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

⁹ the wemen of my people haue ye shot out from their good houses, and taken away my excellent gyftes from their chyldren.

⁶ But ye haue despysed the pore. Are not the ryche they whiche oppresse you: and they which drawe you before iudges?

¹³ For there shalbe iudgemente mercyles to hym, that sheweth no mercy, & mercy reioyseth against iudgemente.

⁴ Beholde the hyre of the labourers which haue reped doun your fieldes (which hyer is of you kept backe by fraude) crieth: & the cryes of them whiche haue reped, are entred into the eares of the Lorde Sabaoth
