¹⁴ Tymely in the mornynge do they aryse, to murthur the simple and poore, & in the night they go a stealynge.

¹⁴ Wherfore on the morowe Dauid wrote a letter to Ioab, and sent it by Vrias. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying: put Vrias in the fore front of the battel where it is moste strong, and come back from hym that he may be smyten to death. ¹⁶ And as Ioab beseged the cytye, he assygned Vrias vnto a place where he wist that strong men were. ¹⁷ And the men of the cytye came oute & fought with Ioab. ⁸ He sytteth lurckynge in the gardens, that he may pryuely murther the innocente, hys eyes are set vpon the poore. ⁹ He lyeth waytynge secretlye, as ti were a lyon in hys denne. He lurketh that he maye rauyshe the pore, yea, to rauysh the poore, when he hath gotten him into hys net. ¹⁰ Then smyteth he, then oppresseth he and casteth downe the pore with his authoritye.

¹ O wo vnto them, that Imagyn to do harme, & deuyse vngracyousnesse vpon their beddes, to perfourme it in the cleare daye: for there power is agaynst God. ² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

³⁹ Thys vnderstande, that yf the good man of the house knewe what houre that these would come, he woulde surely watche, and not suffer hys house to be broken vp.

⁷ Be not therfore companions wyth them. ⁸ Ye were ones darckenes, but are nowe lyghte in the Lorde. Walke as chyldren of lyghte. ⁹ For the fruite of the spirite is in all goodnes, ryghtuousnes and trueth. ¹⁰ Accepte that whiche is pleasinge to the Lorde: ¹¹ and haue no fellowshyp wyth the vnfruitfull workes of darckenes: but rather rebuke them.

² for ye youre selues knowe perfectly that the daie of the Lorde shall come euen as a thefe in the nyght.

³ Remember therfore howe thou hast receiued and hearde, and hold faste & repent. Yf thou shalt not watche, I wyl come on the as a thiefe, and thou shalt not knowe, what hour I wil come vpon the.
