¹ Then Pylate toke Iesus & scourged him. ² And the souldyers wound a croune of thornes, and put it on hys heade. And they dyd on hym a purple garment ³ & sayde: hayle kyng of the Iewes: and they smote him on the face. ⁴ Pylate went forth agayne, & sayd vnto them: behold I bryng hym forth to you, that ye maye knowe, that I fynde no faute in hym. ⁵ Then came Iesus forthe wearynge a croune of thornes and a purple robe. And Pylate sayde vnto them: Beholde the man. ⁶ When the hye Priestes and ministers saw him, they cryed, saiyng: Crucifye him, crucifye him. Pylate sayde vnto them: Take ye hym, and crucifye hym; for I finde no cause in him. ⁷ The Iewes aunswered hym: we haue a lawe, and by our lawe he oughte to dye: because he made hym selfe the sonne of God. ⁸ When Pilate hearde that saiyng: he was the more afrayd, ⁹ and went agayne into the iudgement hall, and sayde vnto Iesus: whence are thou? But Iesus gaue hym none aunswere. ¹⁰ Then sayde Pylate vnto him: Speakest thou not vnto me? knowest thou not that I haue power to crucify the, and haue power to louse the? ¹¹ Iesus aunswered: Than couldest haue no power at all agaynst me, except it were geuen the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto the, is more in synne. ¹² And from thence forth sought Pylate meanes to louse him: but the Iewes cryed, saiynge: yf thou let hym go, thou arte not Cesars frende. And they fylled a sponge with vyneger, and wounde it aboute with ysope, and put it to hys mouthe. ³⁰ Assone as Iesus had receyued of the vyneger he sayed: It is finyshed: and bowed hys head, and gaue vp the ghoste. ³¹ The Iewes then because it was the saboth euen, that the bodyes shoulde not remayne vpon the crosse on the saboth day (for that Saboth daye was an hye daye) besought Pylate that theyr legges myghte be broken, and that they myghte be taken doune. ³² Then came the souldyers, and brake the legges of the fyrst & of the other, which was crucified with Iesus. ³³ But when they came to Iesus, and sawe that he was dead already, they brake not hys legges: ³⁴ but one of the souldyers with a speare thruste hym into the syde and forth with came there out bloude and water. ³⁵ And he that sawe it, bare recorde, and hys recorde is true. And he knoweth that he sayth true, that ye myghte beleue also. ³⁶ These thynges were done, that the scripture shoulde be fulfylled: Ye shall not breake a bone of hym. ³⁷ And agayne another scripture sayeth: They shall loke on hym whome they pearled. ³⁸ After that Ioseph of Arimathia (whiche was a disciple of Iesus, but secretely for feare of the Iewes) besought Pylate that he myght take doune the bodye of Iesus. And Pylate gaue him licence. ³⁹ And there came also Nicodemus whiche at the begynnyng came to Iesus by nyght, and broughte of myrre & aloes myngled together aboute an hundred pounde wayght. ⁴⁰ Then toke they the body of Iesu, & wound it in lynnen clothes with the odoures, as the maner of the Iewes is to burye. ⁴¹ And in the place where Iesus was crucifyed, was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was neuer man layde. ⁴² There layde they Iesus because of the Iewes saboth euen, for the sepulchre was nye at hande.

And then ye shal brynge a newe meatoffryng vnto the Lord.

¹⁴ as Cypresse, Nardus, Saffron, Calmus, and all the trees of Libanus: Myrre, Aloes, and all the best spyces.

⁷ How be it, his meaninge is not so, neither thincketh his hert of this fasshion. But he ymagineth only, how he may ouerthrowe and destroye muche people,

⁷ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde the auenger and holye one of Israel, because of the abhorrynge and despysynge amonge the Gentyles, concernynge the seruaunte of all them that beare rule: Kynges and prynces shall se, and aryse and worshyppe, because of the Lord that he is faythfull: and because of the holye one of Israell, which hath chosen the.

⁶ but I offre my backe vnto the smyters, & my chekes to the uyppers. I turne not my face from shame & spyttynge,

¹² Yea I, I am euen he, that in all thynges geueth you consolacion. What arte thou then, that fearest a mortal man, the chylde of man, whiche goeth awaye as doeth the floure? ¹³ And forgettest the Lord that made the, that spred oute the heauens, & layde the foundacyon of the earthe. But thou arte euer afrayde for the syght of thyne oppressour whiche is ready to do harme: Where is the wrath of the oppressoure?

³ He shalbe the most simple, and despysed of all, which yet hath good experience of sorowes & infyrmyties. We shall reken him so symple and so vyle, that we shall hyde our faces from hym.

⁵ where as he (notwithstanding) shal be wounded for oure offences, & smytten for oure wickednes. For the payne of oure punyshmente shalbe sayde vpon hym, and with hys strypes shall we be healed.

⁷ He shall be payned & troubled, and shal not open his mouth. He shalbe led as a shepe to be slayne, yet shall he be as styll as a lambe before the shearer, and not open hys mouthe.

⁹ His graue shalbe geuen hym with the condempned, & hys crucyfyenge with the theues. Where as he dyd neuer vyolente nor vuryght, neyther had there bene any disceytfulnesse in hys month. ¹⁰ Yet hath it pleased the Lorde to smyte him with infirmite, that when he had made hys soule an offerynge for synne, he myght se longe lasting sede. And this deuyce of the Lord shall prospere in hys hande.

¹² Therfore wyll I geue him the multytude for hys parte, and he shall deuyde the stronge spoyle because he shall geue ouer hys soule to death, & shalbe rekened amonge the transgressours, which neuertheles shall take away the sinnes of the multytude, and make intercessyon for the mysdoers.

¹¹ For when wilt thou be abashed or fear seinge: thou hast broken thy promise, and remembrest not me, neyther hast me in thyne herte? Thinkest thou, that I also will holde my peace (as a fore tyme) that thou fearest me not?

⁵ I am he that made the earthe, the men, & the catell that are vpon the grounde, with my great power and outstretched arme, & haue geuen it vnto whome it pleased me. ⁶ And nowe wyl I delyuer all these landes into the power of Nabuchodonosor the Kynge of Babylon, my seruaunt. The beastes also of the felde shall I geue hym to do hym seruyce. ⁷ And all people shall serue hym, and hys sonne, and hys chyldes chyldren, vntyll the tyme of the same lande become also: yea many people & greate Kynges shall serue hym. ⁸ Moreouer, that people and kyngedome whiche wyll not serue Nabuchodonosor, and that wyll not put theyr neckes vnder the yock of the kynge of Babylon: the same people wil I vpset with the swearde, wyth honger, with pestylence, vntyll I haue consumed them in hys handes, sayeth the Lorde.

¹² Lamed. O ye all that go fore by, beholde and se, yf there be eny sorow like vnto myne, wherwith the Lord hath troubled me, in the daye of his fearefull wrath.

³⁷ Mem. What is he then that sayeth: there shuld somethynge be done without the Lordes commaundement:

²⁶ Thus sayeth the Lorde God: take away the myre, and put of the croune, and so is it awaye: the humble is exalted, and the proude brought low. ²⁷ Punish punyshe, yea punish them will I, and destroy them: and that shall not be fulfilled vntyll he come, to whome the iudgement belongeth, & to whome I haue geuen it.

O Sidrach Misach and Abednago, wyll not ye serue my Goddes, nor bowe youre selues to the golden Image, that I haue set vp? ¹⁵ well, be readye here after, when ye heare the noyse of the trompettes blowe wyth the harpes, shawmes, psalteryes, symphonyes and all the other melodyes: that ye fall doune, and worshyppe the Image whiche I haue made. But yf ye worshyppe it not, ye shall be caste immedyatly into an hote burnynge ouen. Let se, what God is there, that maye delyuer you oute of my handes?

¹⁷ This erande of the watcher is a commaundement grounded and sought oute in the councell of him, that is most holye, to learne men for to vnderstande, that the hyest hath power, ouer the kyngedomes of men, and geueth them, to whome it lyketh hym, & bryngeth the very oute castes of men ouer them.

²⁵ Thou shalte be caste oute from men, & thy dwellyng shalbe with the beastes of the feld: with grasse shalte thou be fed lyke an oxe. Thou must be wet with the dewe of the heauen, yea seuen yeares shall come, and go vpon the, tyll thou know, that the hyest hath power vpon the kingedomes of men, & geueth them to whome he lyst.

³² thou shalte be cast oute of mens companye: thy dwelling shalbe with the beastes of the felde, so that thou shalte eate grasse lyke as an oxe, tyll seuen yeares be come & gone ouer the: euen vntill thou knoweste, that the hyest hath power vpon the kyngdoms of men, and that he may geue them, vnto whom it pleaseth hym.

³⁵ in comparison of whom al they that dwel vpon the earth, are to be reputed as nothinge. He handleth accordinge to hys wyl, among the powers of heauen & amonge the inhabytours of the earthe: and there is none that maye resyste hys hande, or say: what doest thou?

¹⁹ so that al people, kynredes and tunge stode in awe & feare of him, by reason of the hye estate, that he had lente him. For why, he slewe whom he wold: he smote, whom it pleased hym. Agayne, whom he wolde, he set vp: and whome he lyst, he put doune.

²¹ He was shote oute from amonge men, his herte was lyke a beastes herte, and hys dwellynge was wyth the wylde asses: he was fayne to eate grasse lyke an oxe, and hys body was wet with the dewe of the heauen: tyll he knewe, that the hyest had power vpon the kingdomes of men, and setteth ouer them, whome he lyst.

²⁴ .Lxx. weakes are determed ouer thy people, and ouer the holy citie: that the wickednesse maye be consumed, that the sinne maye haue an ende, that the offence may be reconcyled, and to bringe in euerlastinge righteousnesse, to fulfill the visions and the Prophetes, and to annoynte the most holy one.

²⁶ After these .lxii. weakes shall Christ be slaine and they shall haue no pleasure in hym. Then shall there come a people with the Prince, and destroye the cytie and the Sanctuarye: & his ende shall come as the water floude. But the desolacion shall continue till the ende of the battell.

⁴ Iesus said vnto her: woman, what haue I to do with the? Myne houre is not yet come.

¹ Ther was a man of the Pharises named Nicodemus a ruler amonge the Iewes. ² The same came to Iesus by nyghte & sayed vnto him: Rabbi, we knowe that thou art a teacher whiche art come from God. For no man coulde do such miracles as thou doest, except God were wt him. ³ Iesus aunswered & said to him: verely verely, I said vnto the: except a man be borne a new, he can not se the kingdome of God. ⁴ Nicodemus said vnto him: how can a man be borne when he is olde? can he enter into his mothers wombe and be borne againe? ⁵ Iesus aunswered: verely, verely, I saye vnto the: except that a man be boren of water and of the spyryte, he can not enter into the kyngdome of God. ⁶ That whyche is borne of the fleshe is fleshe: and that whiche is borne of the spyryte, is spyrite. ⁷ Marueyle not that I said to the, ye must be borne a newe. ⁸ The wynde bloweth wher it listeth: and thou hearest the sounde therof: but canst not tell whence it cometh and whyther it goeth: So is euery man that is borne of the spyryte. ⁹ And Nicodemus aunswered and said vnto him: how can these thinges be? ¹⁰ Iesus aunswered & said vnto him: art thou a maister in Israel, and knowest not these thinges? ¹¹ Verely, verely, I say vnto the we speake that we know and testify that we haue sene, & ye receiue not our witnes. ¹² Yf when I tel you earthly thinges ye beleue not: howe shoulde ye beleue if I shal tell you of heauenly thinges? ¹³ And no man ascendeth vp to heauen, but he that came doune from heauen, that is to say, the sonne of man which is in heauen. ¹⁴ And as Moyses lyfte vp the serpent in the wyldernes, euen so muste the sonne of man be lyft vp, ¹⁵ that none that beleueth in him perish, but haue eternall life. ¹⁶ For God so loueth the worlde, that he hath geuen his only sonne, that none that beleue in him, should perishe: but should haue euerlastinge lyfe. ¹⁷ For God sent not his sonne into the world, to condempne the worlde: but that the world through him, might be saued. ¹⁸ He that beleueth on him, shal not be condempned. But he that beleueth not is condempned allready, because he beleueth not in the name of the onlye sonne of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condempnacion, that light is come into the worlde, and the men loued darknes more then lyght, because their dedes were euyll. ²⁰ For euerye man that euyll doth, hateth the light: nether commeth to the lyghte: lest his dedes shoulde be reproued. ²¹ But he that doeth truth commeth to the light that hys dedes myght be knowen, how that they are wrought in God.

I am the sonne of God? ³⁷ yf I do not the workes of my father, beleue me not. ³⁸ But yf I do: then thoughe ye beleue not me, yet beleue the workes, that ye maye knowe and beleue, that the father is in me, and I in hym.

¹⁵ and I am glad for youre sakes, that I was not there, because ye may beleue. Neuerthelesse let vs go vnto him.

⁴² I wote that thou hearest me alwayes: but because of the people that stande by, I sayed it, that they may beleue that thou hast sent me.

⁴ I haue glorifyed the on the earthe. I haue finyshed the worke whiche thou gauest me to do.

²⁰ I praye not for them alone: but for them also which shall beleue on me through theyr preachyng ²¹ that they all maye be one, as thou father art in me, and I in the that they maye be also one in vs, that the worlde maye beleue that thou haste sent me.

³ Iudas then after he had receyued a bande of men, and ministers of the hye priestes and Phariseis, came thyther wt lanternes and fyrebrandes, and weapens. ⁴ Then Iesus knowing all thynges that should come on hym, wente forth, and sayed vnto them: whom seke ye?

And when he had sayd that, he wente oute agayne to the Iewes, and sayd vnto them: I fynd in him no cause at al. ³⁹ Ye haue a custome that I shoulde deliuer you one lose at Easter. Wyll ye that I lose vnto you the kyng of the Iewes.

Pylate sayde vnto them: Take ye hym, and crucifye hym; for I finde no cause in him.

We are mortall men lyke vnto you, and preache vnto you, that ye shoulde turne from these vanities vnto the liuynge God, which made heauen and earthe and the sea, and all that in them is: ¹⁶ the whiche in tymes paste suffered all nacyons to walke in theyr owne wayes. ¹⁷ Neuerthelesse he lefte not hym selfe without wytnes, in that he shewed hys benefytes, in geuynge vs rayne from heauen, and fruteful ceasons, fyllyng our hertes with fode and gladnes. ¹⁸ And with these saiynges scace refrayned they the people that they had not done sacrifyce vnto them. ¹⁹ Thyther came certayne Iewes from Antioche and Iconium, and obtayned the peoples consent, and stoned Paul, and drewe him out of the citie, supposyng he had bene dead.

And Felix wyllynge to shewe the Iewes a pleasure, left Paule in prison bounde.

³⁶ For of hym, and thorowe hym, and for hym, are all thynges. To hym be glorye for euer. Amen

¹ Let euery soule submit him selfe vnto the authoritie of the hygher powers. For there is no power but of God.

⁴ Whatsoeuer thynges are wrytten afore tyme, are wrytten for oure learnyng, that we thorowe pacyence and comforte of the scrypture myght haue hope.

³⁰ And vnto him partaine ye in Christe Iesus, whiche of God is made to vs wysdome, and also rightuousnes, and sanctifiynge and redemption.

⁷ Pourge therfore the olde leuen, that ye may be new dowe, as ye are swete bread. For Christ oure easterlambe is offered vp for vs.

¹¹ And suche were ye verelye, but ye are washed, ye are sanctifyed, ye are iustifyed by the name of the Lorde Iesus, and by the spyryte of our God.

⁴ and that he was buried, and that he rose agayne the thyrde daye accordinge to the scriptures

²¹ for he hath made hym to be synne for vs, whiche knewe no synne, that we by hys meanes should be that ryghtuousnes whiche before God is allowed.

³ howe shal we escape, yf we despise so great saluacyon, whyche at the fyrst began to be preached of the Lorde hym selfe, and afterward was confirmed to vswarde, by them that hearde it, ⁴ God bearynge wytnesse therto, both wyth signes and wonders also, and with diuers miracles, and giftes of the holy ghoste, according to his own will.

¹⁴ For as muche then as the children were partetakers of fleshe and bloude, he also him selfe lyke wyse toke part wyth them, for to put doune thorowe death, that is to saye the deuyll, ¹⁵ and that he mighte delyuer them, which thorowe feare of death weare all theyr lyfe tyme in daunger of boundage.

⁴ For it is not possible that they whiche were ones lyghted, and haue tasted of the heauenly gyft, and were become partakers of the holy ghoste, ⁵ and haue tasted of the good worde of God, and of the worlde to come: ⁶ yf they fall, shoulde be renued agayne vnto repentaunce: for as muche as they haue (as concernynge them selues) crucifyed the sonne of God a freshe makynge a mocke of hym. ⁷ For that earthe whiche drincketh in the rayne whiche commeth ofte vpon it, and bryngeth forth herbes mete for them that dresse it, receyueth blessynge of God. ⁸ But that ground which beareth thornes and bryars, is reproued, and is nye vnto curssynge: whose ende is to be burned.

¹⁹ Seynge brethren that, by the meanes of the bloude of Iesu, we may be bold to enter into that holy place, ²⁰ by the newe and lyuynge waye, whych he hath prepared for vs, thorow the vayle, that is to say hys flesh. ²¹ And seynge also that we haue an hye pryest which is ruler ouer the house of God ²² let vs draw nye wyth a true herte in a full fayth, sprynkeled in our hertes from an euyl conscyence, and washed in our bodyes wyth pure water,

⁶ yf we saye that we haue felowshippe with him, and yet walke in darckenes, we lye, and do not the trueth, ⁷ but and yf we walke (in light) euen as he is in lighte, then haue we felowshyppe wyth hym, and the bloude of Iesus Christe his sonne clenseth vs from all sinne. ⁸ If we saye that we haue no sinne, we deceiue oure selues, and trueth is not in vs. ⁹ If we knowledge oure sinnes, he is faythfull and iust, to forgeue vs our sinnes, and to clense vs from al vnrightuousnes.

⁵ And ye knowe that he appered to take awaye oure synnes, & in him is no sinne.

¹⁸ My babes, let vs not loue in worde neyther in tonge, but wyth the dede and in veryty: ¹⁹ For therby we know that we are of the verytye, and can before him quyete oure hertes.

⁶ This Iesus Christ is he that came by water and bloude, not by water onelye, but by water and bloud. And it is the spirite that beareth witnes, because the spirite is trueth.

⁸ For there are thre, whiche beare recorde in earth the spyrite and water, and bloude, and these thre are one.

¹³ These thinges haue I wryten vnto you, that beleue on the name of the sonne of God, that ye maye know, how that ye haue eternal lyfe, and that ye may beleue on the name of the sonne of God.

⁵ and from Iesus Christ, whiche is a faythfull wytnes, and fyrst begotten of the dead, and Lorde ouer the kynges of the earth. Vnto him, that loued vs and washed vs from synnes in his owne bloude,

⁷ Behold he commeth wyth cloudes, and al eyes shal se him: and they also whiche persed hym. And all kynredes of the earth shal waile. Euen so. Amen:

¹⁴ And I sayd vnto hym: Lorde thou wotest. And he said vnto me: these are they which came out of great tribulacion, and made their garmentes large and made them white, in the bloude of the lambe,

¹¹ And they had a kynge ouer them, whych is the angel of the bottomlesse pyt, whose name in the Hebrue tonge, is Abodon, but in the Greke tonge, Appollion.

¹⁶ And he gathered them together into a place, called in the Hebrue tonge Armagedon.
