¹ Then Pylate toke Iesus & scourged him.

³ The plowers plowed vpon my backe, & made longe forowes.

⁶ but I offre my backe vnto the smyters, & my chekes to the uyppers. I turne not my face from shame & spyttynge,

⁵ where as he (notwithstanding) shal be wounded for oure offences, & smytten for oure wickednes. For the payne of oure punyshmente shalbe sayde vpon hym, and with hys strypes shall we be healed.

¹⁹ and shall deliuer hym to the gentels, to be mocked, to be scourged, & to be crucified, and the thirde daye he shall rise agayne.

³⁴ Wherfore, behold I send vnto you Prophetes, wise men, & Scribes. Of them ye shal kyl and crucifye: and of them ye shall scourge in your synagoges, and persecute from citye to citye

²⁶ Then let he Barrabas louse vnto them, and schourged Iesus, and deliuered hym to be crucyfyed. ²⁷ Then the souldiers of the debytye toke Iesus to the common hall, and gathered to hym all the companye. ²⁸ And they strypped him, and put on him a purpyll roobe, ²⁹ and platted a croune of thornes & put vpon his head, and a reed in his ryght hande, & bowed their knees before him and mocked hym, sayinge: hayle kinge of the Iewes, ³⁰ and spitted vpon hym & toke the reed and smote him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked hym: they toke the robe of hym agayn, and put his owne rayment on hym, and lead him awaye to crucyfye hym.

³³ Beholde, we go vp to Hierusalem and the sonne of man shalbe delyuered into the handes of the hye priestes, and vnto the Scribes: and they shall condempne hym to death, and shall delyuer hym to the gentyls: ³⁴ and they shal mocke him, & schourge him and spyte vpon hym, and kyl hym. And the thyrd daye he shall ryse agayne.

¹⁵ And so Pylate wyllyng to content the people, loused them Barrabas, and delyuered Iesus, when he had scourged hym, for to be crucifyed. ¹⁶ And the soudyers ledde hym away into the common hall, and called together the whole multytude, ¹⁷ and they clothed him wyth purple, and they platted a croune of thornes and crouned hym with al, ¹⁸ and began to salute hym: Hayle kynge of the Iewes. ¹⁹ And they smote hym on the head with a rede, and spatte vpon hym, and kneled doune & worshipped hym. ²⁰ And when they had mocked hym, they toke the purple of hym, and put hys owne clothes on him, and led him out to crucifye him.

³³ and when they haue scourged him, they wyll put hym to death, and the thyrde daye he shall ryse agayn.

¹⁶ I wil therfore chasten him and let him louse.

²³ And they cryed with loude voice, & required that he might be crucyfyed. And the voice of them and of the hie priestes preuailed.

²² And the people came on them, and the offycers rent theyr clothes, and commaunded them to be beaten with roddes. ²³ And when thei had beaten them sore, they caste them into pryson, commaundynge the iayler to kepe them surelye.

²⁴ the captayne bad him to be brought into the castel and commaunded hym to be scourged, and to be examyned, that he myght knowe wherfore they cryed on hym. ²⁵ And as they bounde hym with thonges, Paule sayde to the Centuryon that stode by. Is it lawfull for you to scourge a man that is a Romayne and vncondempned?

²⁴ Of the Iewes .v. tymes receyued I euerye tyme .xl. strypes saue one.

³⁶ Other tasted of mockynges and scourgynges, moreouer of bondes and prysonmente,

²⁴ which hys owne selfe bare oure synnes in hys body on the tree, that we shoulde be delyuered from synne, and shoulde lyue in ryghtuousnes. By whose strypes ye were healed.
