²⁰ And God came vnto Balam by nyghte and sayd vnto hym: If the men come to fette the ryse vp & go wyth them: but what I say vnto the, that onely thou shalt do.

³⁵ And the angel sayed vnto Balam, go wyth the men: but in any myse, what I saye vnto the, that saye. And Balam went with the lordes of Balac.

⁵ And the Lorde put a sayinge in Balams mouth and sayd: go agayne to Balac & say on thys wyse.

¹² And he answered and sayed: must I not kepe that & speake it, whyche the Lorde hath put in my mouthe?

¹⁶ And the Lorde mette Balam and put wordes in hys mouth and sayd: go agayne vnto Balac and thus say.

²⁶ And Balam answered & sayd vnto Balac: tolde not I the sayinge: all that the Lorde byddeth me, that I muste doo?

¹³ If Balac would giue me his house full of syluer and gold, I can not passe the mouth of the Lorde, to do eyther good or bad of myne owne mynde. What the Lord saith, that must I speake.

⁵ and sayd vnto him: behold thou art olde, & thy sonnes folow not thy wayes. Now therfor make vs a king to iudge vs, as all other nacions haue. ⁶ But the thyng displeased Samuell, when they sayde: geue vs a kynge to iudge vs. And Samuel prayed vnto the Lorde. ⁷ And the Lord sayd vnto Samuel: heare the voyce of the people in all that they say vnto the. For they haue not cast the awaye, but me: that I shulde not raygne ouer them. ⁸ And as they haue euer done (sence I brought them out of Egypt vnto thys daye, & haue forsaken me, & serued other Goddes) euen so do they vnto the. ⁹ Now therfor herken vnto theyr voyce, howbeit yet, testifye vnto them, & shew them the duty of the kyng that shal raygne ouer them.

¹² And for al that when you sawe that Nahas the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye sayde vnto me: not so, a kynge shall raygne ouer vs, when yet the Lord your god was your Kyng. ¹³ Now therfore beholde, the kynge whome ye haue chosen and whome ye haue desyred: se, the Lorde hath geuen you a Kynge, ¹⁴ Oh, that ye wolde feare the Lorde & serue hym, & heare hys voyce, & not disobeye the mouth of the Lorde: and that both ye and the Kynge that raygneth ouer you, wolde folow the Lorde your God. ¹⁵ For yf ye shal not herken vnto the voyce of the Lorde, but shall disobeye the Lordes mouthe: then shal the hand of the Lorde be vpon you & on youre fathers. ¹⁶ Now also stande & se thys great thyng which the Lorde wyl do before youre eyes: ¹⁷ is it not now wheteheruest. And yet for al that, I wyl call vnto the Lorde, and he shall sende thunder and rayne. Wherby perceyue and vnderstand how that your wyckednes is great which ye haue done in the syght of the Lorde in askyng you a Kynge. ¹⁸ And when Samuel called vnto the Lorde, the Lorde sent thunder & rayne the same daye. And all the people feared the Lord and Samuel excedynglye. ¹⁹ Then sayde all the people vnto Samuel: praye for thy seruauntes vnto the Lorde thy God, that we dye not: for we haue synned in askyng vs a kynge, besyde all the synnes that euer we dyd.

¹⁰ The Lorde bryngeth the counsayl of the Heythen to naught, and turneth the deuyces of the people. ¹¹ But the counsayll of the Lorde endureth, and the thoughtes of his herte from generacion to generacion.

³⁰ They were not disapoynted of their lust. But whyle the meate was yet in their mouthes: ³¹ the heuy wrath of God came vpon them, slewe the welthiest of them, & smote doune the chosen men of Israel.

¹² So I gaue them vp vnto their owne hertes luste, and let them folowe theyr owne ymaginacions.

²⁹ Therfore thy furiousnesse agaynst me, & thy pryde is come before me. I will put a ringe in thy nose, and a bridle byt in the chawes of the, & turne the aboute, euen the same waye thou comest.

² Then came the worde of the Lorde vnto me, sayeng: ³ Thou sonne of man, these men beare theyr Idols in their hertes, and go purposly vpon the stomblynge block of their owne wyckednesse: how darre they then aske councell at me? ⁴ Therfore speake vnto them, & saye: Thus sayth the Lorde God. Euerye man of the house of Israell that beareth hys Idols in his herte, purposynge to stomble in hys owne wickednesse, and commeth to a Prophete, to enquere any thynge at me by hym: vnto that man will I the Lorde my self geue aunswere, accordynge to the multytude of hys Idoles, ⁵ that the house of Israell maye be snared in theyr owne hertes, because they be cleane gone from me, for theyr Idoles sakes.

¹¹ well I gaue the a king in my wrath, & in my dyspleasure will I take him from the agayne.

⁹ euen hym whose commynge is by the workynge of Sathan, with all liynge power, signes and wonders: ¹⁰ and in all deceyuablenes of vnryghtuousnes, amonge them that peryshe: because they receyued not the loue of the truethe, that they myght haue bene sayed. ¹¹ And therfore God shall sende them stronge delusyon, that they shoulde beleue lyes: ¹² that all they myghte be damned which beleued not the trueth but had pleasure in vnryghtuousnes.
