⁷ The rich ruleth the pore, & the borower is seruant to the lender.

¹ And there cryed a certayn woman of the wyues of the chyldren of the Prophetes, vnto Elizeus saying: thy seruaunt my husband is deade, and thou knowest that thy seruaunt dyd feare the Lorde. And the creditor is come to fet my two sonnes, to be his bondemen.

⁴ But some sayde: let vs borowe money of the kynges trybute for oure landes and vyneyardes. ⁵ Now are oure brethrens bodyes as oure owne bodyes and their children as oure chyldren: els shoulde we subdue oure sonnes and doughters vnto bondage, & some of oure doughters are subdued already, and no strength is there in oure handes, and other men shall haue oure landes and vyneyardes.

³¹ He that doeth a poore man wrong, blasphemeth hys maker: but who so hathe pytye of the poore, doeth honoure vnto God,

²³ The poore maketh supplicacyon & prayeth mekelye, but the ryche geueth a rough aunswere.

¹⁶ Who so doth a pore man wrong to increase his owne riches, geueth (commenly) vnto the rych, & at the last commeth to pouerte him selfe.

²² Se that thou robbe not the pore because he is weake, & oppresse not the simple in iudgment:

² Then shal the pryeste be as the people, the mayster as the seruaunt, the dame lyke the mayde, the seller lyke the byer he that lendeth vpon vsurye, lyke vnto him that boroweth vpon vsury, the creditoure, as the detter.

⁶ Thus sayth the Lorde: For thre and foure wickednesses of Israel, I wyl not spare hym: because he hath solde the ryghteous for money, and the poore for shues.

¹ O heare thys worde ye fat kyne, that be vpon the hil of Samaria: ye that do poore men wronge, and oppresse the nedy: ye that saye to your Lordes: bring hyther, let vs drincke.

¹¹ For so muche then as ye oppresse the poore, & robbe him of his best sustenaunce: therfore, where as ye haue buylded houses of square stone, ye shall not dwel in them. Maruelous pleasaunt vyneyardes shal ye plante, but the wyne of them shall ye not drynck: and why? ¹² as for the multitude of your wickednesses and your stout synnes, I know them ryghte well. Euemyes are ye of the ryghtuous, ye take rewardes, ye oppresse the poore in iudgement.

⁴ Heare this, O ye that oppresse the poore, and destroye the nedy in the lande, saying:

⁶ We shal set vp false waightes that we maye gett the poore vnder vs wyth their money, and the nedy also for shues: yee let vs sell the chaffe for corne.

²⁵ whome because he had noughte to paye, hys master commaunded him to be solde, and his wyfe, and hys chyldren, and all that he had, & payment to be made.

⁶ But ye haue despysed the pore. Are not the ryche they whiche oppresse you: and they which drawe you before iudges?

¹ Go to nowe ye ryche men. Weepe, and howle on your wretchednes that shal come vpon you.

⁴ Beholde the hyre of the labourers which haue reped doun your fieldes (which hyer is of you kept backe by fraude) crieth: & the cryes of them whiche haue reped, are entred into the eares of the Lorde Sabaoth
