¹ The wordes of kyng Lamuell, and the Prophecye that his mother taughte hym. ² My sonne, thou sonne of my body: O my deare beloued sonne, ³ geue not ouer thy substaunce & mynde vnto women, whiche are the destruction euen of kinges. ⁴ O Lamuel, geue kynges no wyne, geue kynges & princes no strong drincke: ⁵ lest they beyng dronken forget the law, & regarde not the cause of the poore, and of al such as be in aduersite. ⁶ Geue strong drinke vnto suche as are condempned to death, & wyne vnto those that mourne: ⁷ that they may drinke it, & forget their misery and aduersitie. ⁸ Be thou an aduocate, and stande in iudgement thy selfe, to speake for all such as be domme & socourles. ⁹ With thy mouth defende the thyng that is lawful and right, and the cause of the poore and helpelesse. ¹⁰ Aleph. ⁸ My sonne, heare thy fathers doctryne, & forsake not the lawe of thy mother:

²⁰ My son kepe thy fathers commandementes, and forsake not the law of thy mother.

⁵ when I call to remembraunce the vnfayned fayth, that is in the, whiche dwelte fyrste in thy graundmother Loys, and in thy mother Eunica: and am assured that it dwelleth in the also.

¹⁵ and for as muche also as thou haste knowen holy scrypture of a chyld, whiche is able to make the wyse vnto saluacion thorowe the fayth which is in Christ Iesu.

¹¹ and vowed a vowe and said: Lord of hostes, yf thou wylt loke on the wretchednesse of thyne handmayde, and shalt remembre me, and not forget thyne handmayde, & shalte geue vnto thyne handmayde a manchylde I wyll geue him vnto the Lord, all the dayes of hys lyfe, & there shal neyther raser or sheres come vpon hys heade.

²⁸ & therfor I also lend him the Lord, as long as he may be lent the Lorde. And so they prayed there vnto the Lord.

¹⁵ Doth a wyfe forget the chylde of her wombe, & the sonne whom she hath borne? And though she do forget, yet wyll not I forget the.

¹⁷ Also he shall not haue to many wyues lest his hert turne away, neither shal he gather hym siluer & gold to much.

⁹ That thou geue not thyne honoure vnto another, and thy yeares to the cruell. ¹⁰ That other men be not filled wt thy goods & that thy labours come not in a strang house. ¹¹ Yea that thou mourne not at the last (when thou hast spent thy body & goods)

²⁶ For many one hath she wounded and cast doune yea, many a stronge man hath she slayne. ²⁷ Her house is the waye vnto hell, where men go doune into the chambers of death.

¹¹ Whordome, wine and drockennesse take the herte away.

⁹ dryncke no wyne, no strong drynke, neither thou nor thy sonnes wyth the: when ye go into the tabernacle of wytnes, lest ye dye. And let it be a lawe for euer vnto youre chyldren after you: ¹⁰ that ye may put difference betwene holy & vnholi, & betwene vncleane & cleane,

¹² And when Benhadad hearde that tidinges, as he and the kinges were drinckinge in the pauilions, he sayde vnto his seruauntes: put ye in araye. And they put them selues in araye against the cytye.

¹⁶ And they went out at none when Benhadad was drinckynge stronge dryncke in the pauilions with the two and thyrtye kynges that holpe hym. ¹⁷ And the men of the shrifes of the shires went out fyrste. And Benhadad sent out, and they shewed him saying: there came men out e Samaria. ¹⁸ And he sayd: yf they come out of for peace, take them aliue. ¹⁵ And the postes wente in all the hast according to the kinges commaundement. And in the castell of Susan was the commaundement deuised. And the kynge and Haman sate and drancke. But the cyty of Susan was disquyeted.

¹ Wine is a volupteous thynge, & dronckennes causeth sedicion: who so deliteth therin, shal neuer be wyse.

¹⁷ But well is the (O thou realme and lande) whose kynge is is come of nobles, and whose prynces eate in due seasou, for strength and not for luste.

²² Wo be vnto them, that are connynge men to suppe oute wyne, and experte to set vp dronckennesse.

⁷ But they go wronge by the reason of wyne, they fall and stacker because of stronge drincke. Yea euen the Priestes and Prophetes them selues go amysse, they are droncken with wyne, & weake brayned thorowe stronge drincke. They erre in seynge, and in iudgemente they fayle. ⁸ For all tables are so full of vomyte and fylthynes, that no place is cleane.

² & when he was droncken with wyne, he commaunded to brynge hym the golden and syluer vessels, whiche his father Nabuchodonosor had taken oute of the temple at Ierusalem, that the king and hys lordes with hys quene and concubynes might drincke thereoute. ³ So they broughte the golden vessell, that was taken oute of the temple of the Lordes house at Ierusalem. Then the kynge and hys lordes with his quene & concubynes droncke oute of them. ⁴ They droncke wyne, and praysed theyr Idoles of golde, syluer, copper, yron woodde and stone.

¹¹ Whordome, wine and drockennesse take the herte away. ¹² My people aske councell at their stockes, their staffes must tell them. For an whoryshe minde hath disceyued them, so that they committe fornycacyon agaynst their God.

³ They make the kinge & the princes, to haue pleasure in their wickednes and lyes. ⁴ All these burne in aduoutrye, as it were an ouen that the baker heateth, when he hath lefte kneadynge, till the dowe be leuended. ⁵ Euen so goeth it thys day with oure kinges & princes, for they beginne to be wodde droncken thorowe wine, they vse familarite with suche as disceyue him.

⁵ Lyke as the wyne disceyueth the dronkarde, euen so the proud shall fayle and not endure. He openeth hys desyre wyde vp as the hell, & is as vnsacyale as death. All Heathen gathered he to hym, and heapeth vnto hym all people.

²¹ But when a conuement daye was come: Herode on his byrth day made a supper to the lordes, captaynes, and chief estates of Galile. ²² And the doughter of the sayd Herodias came in and daunsed, and pleased Herode, and them that sate at bourde also. ¹⁰ And she was troubled in her spretes, and prayed vnto the Lorde, and wepte sore,

⁶ And Dauid was in a shrowde strayte: for the people entended to stone hym because the hertes of all the people were vexed for their sonnes and their doughters. But Dauid toke a good courage to him in the lord hys God

²⁷ Then she went to the man of God vp to the hyll and caught him by the fete. And Gihezi went to her, to thrust her away. But the man of God sayde: let her alone, for her soule is vexed, and the Lorde hath hid it from me, and hath not tolde it me.

²⁰ Wherfore is the lyght geuen to hym that is in miserye? and lyfe vnto them, that haue heuy hertes?

¹³ He that shoulde haue bene lost, gaue me a good worde, and the wyddowes herte praysed me.

¹⁵ wyne to make glad the herte of man, oyle to make hym a chearfull countenaunce and bread to strength mans herte.

²³ Drink no lenger water, but vse a lytle wyne for thy stomakes sake, and thyne often dyseases.

¹⁸ and be not drounke wt wyne. wherin is excesse, but be fulfylled wyth the spirite,

⁴ And Ionathas spake the best of Dauid vnto Saul hys father and sayde vnto hym: lette not the kyng synne agaynst hys seruaunt Dauid, for he hath not synned agaynst the, and hys workes are to the warde very good. ⁵ For he dyd put hys lyfe in hys hande and slue the Philistine, and the Lorde gaue a great vyctorye to all Israell. And thou sawest it, & thou reioysedest, wherfore then shouldest thou sinne agaynst innocent bloude, and slee Dauid for nought? ⁶ And Saul harkened vnto the voice of Ionathas and sware: as truly as the Lorde lyueth, he shall not dye. ⁷ Then Ionathas called Dauid, and shewed him all those wordes and brought hym to Saul. And he was in his presens as in tymes past.

³² But Ionathas answered Saul hys father and sayde to hym: wherefore should he dye? what hath he done?

¹⁴ And Ahymelech answered the kynge & sayde: who is so faythfull amonge all thy seruauntes as Dauid & therto the kinges sonne in lawe, and goeth at thy bidding, and is had in honoure in thyne house? ¹⁵ haue I thys daye begonne fyrst to aske councel of God for him? God forbyd that from me: let not the kynge put suche a thinge vnto hys seruaunt and on all the house of my father. For thy seruaunt knoweth nothinge of all thys, ether lesse or more.

¹³ Mardocheus bad say again vnto Esther: thynke not to saue thyne owne lyfe, whyle thou arte in the kynges house before all Iewes: ¹⁴ for yf thou holdest thy peace at this tyme, then shall the Iewes haue helpe and delyueraunce out of another place, and thou and thy fathers house shalbe destroied. And who knoweth wheter thou art come to the kyngedome, for this tymes sake? ¹⁵ Esther bad geue Mardocheus this answere: ¹⁶ Go thou thy waye then, and gather together all the Iewes that are founde at Susan, and fast ye for me, that ye eat not & drinke not in thre dayes, nether day nor nyght. I & my Damosels wil fast lykewise, and so wil I go into the kynge contrary to the commaundement: yf I perish I peryshe.

⁹ when the Princes lefte of their talkinge, & layed their hande to their mouthe:

¹² For I delyuered the poore when he cried, and the fatherlesse that wanted helpe. ¹³ He that shoulde haue bene lost, gaue me a good worde, and the wyddowes herte praysed me. ¹⁴ And why? I put vpon me ryghteousnes, whyche couered me as a garment, and equyte was my croune. ¹⁵ I was an eye vnto the blinde, and a fote to the lame, ¹⁶ I was a father vnto the poore and when I knew not their cause, I sought it oute diligently. ¹⁷ I brake the chaftes of the vnrighteous, and plucte the spoyle oute of their tethe.

¹¹ O Let the sorowfull sighehyng of the presoners come before the, and accordinge vnto the power of thyne arme, preserue those that are appoynted to dye.

³ Defende the poore and fatherlesse, se that suche as be in nede & necessitie haue right. ⁴ Deliuer the outcaste & poore, & saue hym from the hande of the vngodly.

⁷ Wisdome is an hye thyng, yea euen to the foole for he dar not open his mouth in the gate.

¹¹ Delyuer them that go into death, and are led away to be slayne, & be not negligent therin. ¹² If thou wylt saye: I knewe not of it. Thinkest thou that he which made the herts, doth not consider it? & that he which regardeth thy soule, seyth it not? Shall not he recompence euerye man accordynge to his workes?

¹⁶ Then sayde the rulers and the people vnto the priestes and Prophetes: This man maye not be condemned to death, for he hath preached vnto vs in the name of the Lorde oure God. ¹⁷ The Elders also of the lande stode vp, and sayde thus vnto all the people: ¹⁸ Micheah the Morasthite, which was a Prophet vnder Ezekiah kynge of Iuda, spake to all the people of Iuda: Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: Syon shalbe plowed lyke a felde, Ierusalem shalbe an heape of stones, and the hyll of the Lordes house shalbe turned to an hye wood. ¹⁹ Dyd Ezekiah the kyng of Iuda, & the people of Iuda put him to death for this? No, verely but rather feared the Lord, & made their prayer vnto hym. For the whiche cause also the Lorde repented of the plage, that he had deuysed agaynst them. Shulde we then do suche a shamefull dede agaynst oure soules:

²⁴ But Ahikam the sonne of Saphan helped Ieremye, that he came not into the handes of the people to be slayne.

⁷ So Ieremy stack fast in the myre. Now when Abedmelech the Morian beinge a chamberlayne in the kinges courte, vnderstode, that they had cast Ieremy into the dongeon: ⁸ he went out of the kinges house, & spake to the king (which then sat vnder the porte of Beniamin) these wordes: ⁹ My Lorde the king where as these men medle with Ieremye the prophet, they do him wrong. Namely, in that they haue put him in preson, there to dye of honger, for there is nomore bread in the city. ¹⁰ Then the kynge commaundeth Abedmelech the Morian and sayde: Take from hence .xxx. men whom thou wilt, & drawe vp Ieremy the prophet oute of the dongeon, before he dye.

⁵¹ Doeth our lawe iudge anye man, before it heare him and knowe what he hath done?

¹⁵ Ye shall do no vnryghteousnes in iudgement. Thou shalt uot fauoure the poore nor honoure the myghtye, but shalt iudge thy neygebour ryghteously.

¹⁶ And I charged your Iudges the same time sayinge: heare youre brethren & iudge ryghteously betwene euery man and his brother and the straunger that is wyth hym.

¹⁸ Iudges and officers thou shalt make the, in all thy gates which the Lord thy God geueth the thorowout thy trybes: & let them iudge the people ryghtuously. ¹⁹ Wrest not the lawe nor know any person nether take any reward for giftes blind the wise & peruert the wordes of the ryghtuous. ²⁰ But in all thyngs folowe ryghtuousnes that thou maist lyue & enioy the land which the Lord thy God geueth the.

¹⁵ And Dauid raygned ouer all Israel, and executed ryght and iustice vnto all hys people.

¹² For I delyuered the poore when he cried, and the fatherlesse that wanted helpe.

¹ To the chaunter Destroye not Michtam of Dauid. If youre myndes be vpon righteousnes in deede, then iudge the thyng that is ryght, O ye sonnes of men, ² But ye ymagyn mischefe in youre hertes and youre handes deale with wickednes.

¹ Of Salomon. Geue the king thy iudgement, O God, and thy righteousnesse vnto the kynges sonne. ² That he maye gouerne thy people accordynge vnto ryght and defende thy poore.

¹² It is a great abhominatyon when kynges are wycked, for a kinges seat should be holden vp wyth ryghtuousnesse

⁸ A kynge that sitteth in iudgement, and loketh well aboute hym, dryueth awaye all euell.

¹⁷ Lerne to do right, applye youre selues to equite, delyuer the oppressed, helpe the fatherlesse to hys ryght, let the wyddowes complaynte come before you.

²³ Thy prynces are traytours and companyons of theues. They loue gyftes altogether, & folowe rewardes. As for the fatherles, they helpe hym not to hys ryght, nether wyll they let the wydowes causes come before them.

⁴ but wyth ryghteousnesse shall he iudge the poore, and with holynes shal he refourme the symple of the worlde. He shall smyte the worlde wyth the staffe of hys mouthe, & with the breathe of his mouth shall he slay the wicked.

¹ Beholde, the kynge shal gouerne after the rule of ryghtuousnes, & the princes shal rule according to the balaunce of equyte. ² He shalbe vnto men as a defence for the wynde, & as a refuge for the tempeste, like as a riuer of water in a thurstye place, and the shadowe of a great rocke in a drye land.

²⁸ hereof are they fat and welthy, and are runne awaye fro me wyth shameful blasphemyes. They mynistre not the lawe, they make no ende of the fatherlesses cause, they iudge not the poore according to equite.

³ Thus the Lorde commaundeth: kepe equyte and ryghtuousnesse, delyuer the oppressed from the power of the violent: do not greue ner opppresse the straunger, the fatherlesse ner the wyddowe, and shede no innocent bloude in this place.

¹⁵ Thinckest thou to raigne, now that thou prouokest me to wrath wyth the Cedre trees? Dyd not thy father eate and drincke, and prospere well, as longe as he dealt wt equite and ryghtuousnesse? ¹⁶ Yee when he helped the oppressed and poore to their ryght then prospered he well. From whence came this, but onlye because he had me before hys eyes, sayth the Lorde.

⁵ Beholde, the tyme commeth, sayeth the Lorde, that I will rayse vp the ryghtuous braunche of Dauid, which shall beare rule, and discusse matters wyth wysdome, & shall sett vp equyte & rightuousnes agayne in the earth.

²⁷ Wherfore, O Kyng, be content with my councel, that thou mayeste lowse thy synnes wyth ryghtuousnesse, and thyne offences with mercye to poore people: for suche thynges shall prolonge thy peace.

¹¹ For so muche then as ye oppresse the poore, & robbe him of his best sustenaunce: therfore, where as ye haue buylded houses of square stone, ye shall not dwel in them. Maruelous pleasaunt vyneyardes shal ye plante, but the wyne of them shall ye not drynck: and why? ¹² as for the multitude of your wickednesses and your stout synnes, I know them ryghte well. Euemyes are ye of the ryghtuous, ye take rewardes, ye oppresse the poore in iudgement.

⁹ Thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes: Execute true iudgement: shew mercy & louinge kindnesse, euery man to his brother.

⁹ Reioyce thou greatly, O doughter Syon, be glad, O doughter Ierusalem. For lo, thy king commeth vnto the, euen the ryghteous & Sauioure: Lowly and simple is he, he rydeth vpon an asse, & vpon the foale of an asse.

²⁴ Iudge not after the vtter aperaunce: but iudge rightuouse iudgemente.

⁹ Thou hast loued ryghtuousnes, and hated inyquytye. Wherfore God, whiche is thy GOD, hath anoynted the wyth the oyle of gladnes aboue thy felowes.

¹¹ And I sawe heauen open, & beholde a whyt horsse: and he that sate vpon hym was faythful and true, & in rightuousnes dyd he iudge & make battayl.

¹¹ And now my doughter, feare not, I wyl do to the al that thou requireste, for al the gates of my people knowe that thou art a woman of vertue.

¹⁸ There is nothinge so worthy, or so excellent, as ones to be named vnto her: for perfecte wisedome goeth farre beyonde them al.

¹⁵ Wysdome is more worth then precyous stones, and all thinges that thou canste desyre, are not to be compared vnto her.

¹¹ For wysdome is more worth then precious stones, yea, all the thinges that thou canst desire, are not to be compared vnto it.

⁴ A stedfast woman is a croune vnto her husband: but she that behaueth her selfe vnhonestly is a corrupcion in hys bones.

²² Who so fyndeth a wyfe fyndeth a good thynge, and receyueth an wholsome benefyte of the Lord.

¹⁴ House & ryches maye a man haue by the heritage of hys elders, but a discrete woman is the gifte of the Lord.

¹⁵ A mouth of vnderstanding is more worth then gold, many precious stones, & costly iewels.

²⁸ Amonge a thousande men I haue founde one, but not one woman amonge all.

⁸ There are thre score Quenes, foure score concubines, & yong women without numbre. ⁹ But one is my doue, my derling. She is the onely beloued of her mother, and deare vnto her that bare her. When the daughters sawe her, they sayde, she was blessed: Yea the Quenes and concubynes praysed her.

²⁵ Husbandes loue youre wyues, euen as Christe loued the congregation, and gaue him selfe for it, ²⁶ to sanctifye it, and cleansed it in the fountayne of water thorowe the worde ²⁷ to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame. ²⁸ So ought men to loue theyr wyues, as their owne bodies. He that loueth hys wyfe, loueth him selfe. ²⁹ For no man euer yet hated hys owne fleshe, but norisheth and cherisseth it euen as the Lorde doeth the congregation. ³⁰ For we are members of his bodie, of his fleshe, and of hys bones. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall continue wyth hys wyfe, and two shalbe made one fleshe. ³² Thys is a greate secrete, but I speake betwene Christe and the congregation. ³³ Neuerthelesse do ye so that euerye one of you loue his wyfe truely euen as hym selfe: And let the wyfe se that she feare her husbande.

⁹ And she sayd vnto her husbande: se, I perceyue that the man of God is perfecte, and cometh alwaye by vs. ¹⁰ Let vs make hym a lyttel chambre with a littel walle, and let vs set him there a bed, a table, a stole and a candelstycke that he maye turne in thither, when he cometh to vs.

²² and came to her husbande & sayde: sende me one of the younge men and an Asse, that I may runne to the man of God. ²³ And he saide: wherfore wilt thou go to hym to daye, whyle it is nether new mone nor Saboth day. And she sayde: be content.

¹ Lykewyse let the wyues be in subiectyon to theyr husbandes, that euen they which beleue not the worde, maye wythoute the worde be wonne by the conuersation of the wiues: ² whyle they beholde your pure conuersacion coupled wyth feare. ³ Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell: ⁴ but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by. ⁵ For after thys maner in the olde tyme dyd the holye women whiche trusted in God, tyer them selues, and were obedyente to theyr husbandes ⁶ euen as Sara obeyed Abraham, and called hym Lorde: whose doughters ye are as longe as ye do well, and be not afrayde of euerye shadowe. ⁷ Lykewyse ye men dwell wyth them accordynge to knoweledge, geuynge honoure vnto the wyfe, as vnto the weaker vessell, and as vnto them that are heyres also of the grace of lyfe, that youre prayers be not let.

¹⁸ Then Abigail made hast and toke two hundred loues and two botelles of wine, and fiue shepe redy dressed and fyue measures of parched corne, and an hundred bondelles of reasings, and two hundred frayles of fygges, and laded them on asses, ¹⁹ & sayde vnto her younge men: go before me, & se I come after you, and tolde her husbande Nabal nothing therof: ²⁰ and as she rode on her asse and was coming doune in a slade of the hyll, Dauid and his men came doune against her and she met them. ²¹ And Dauid sayde: in vayne haue I kept all that this felowe had in the wildernesse, so that nought was myssed that pertayneth vnto him, for he hath quytte me with euyll for good. ²² So and so do God vnto the enemies of Dauid, as I wil not leaue of all that pertaine to hym, by the daunynge of the daye, ought that pisseth agaynst the wall.

²⁶ And nowe my lord as sure as the lorde lyueth and as thy soule lyueth, the Lorde hathe witholden the from commyng to shede bloud and from aduenging thy self with thine own hande. Forthermore I praye God that thyne enemies and they that entende to do my Lord euyl, may be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this blessing, whiche thine handmaide hath brought, let it be geuen vnto the young men that folowe my Lorde.

⁶ And Abraham went a pace in to hys tent vnto Sara and sayd: make redy attonce thre peckes of fyne meale, kneade it and make cakes. ⁷ And Abraham ran vnto his beastes & fet a calfe that was tendre and good, & gaue it vnto a yonge man which made it redy attonce. ⁸ And he toke butter and mylcke and the calf whyche he had prepared, and set it before them, and stode hym selfe by them vnder the tree: and they ate.

¹³ Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of thys cytie wyll come out to draw water: ¹⁴ Nowe the damsell to whome I saye, stoupe doune thy pytcher, and let me drinck. If she saye: Dryncke, and I wyll geue thy camels dryncke also, the same is she that thou hast ordened for thy seruaunte Isaac: yea and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.

¹⁸ And she sayd: dryncke my Lorde. And she hasted and late doune her pytcher vpon her arme & gaue him drincke. ¹⁹ And when she had geuen him drincke, she sayde: I wyll drawe water for thy camels also, vntyll they haue dronck ynough. ²⁰ And she poured out her pitcher in to the tough hastely, & runne agayn vnto the well, to fet water: and drewe for all hys camels.

⁹ While he yet talked with them, Rahel came wyth hyr fathers shepe, for she kepte them. ¹⁰ As sone as Iacob sawe Rahell, the doughter of Laban hys mothers brother, & the shepe of Laban hys mothers brother, he went & rolled the stone from the wels mouth, & watered the shepe of Laban his mothers brother.

¹⁶ The priest of Madian had .vij. doughters which came and drewe water and filled the troughes, for to water theyr fathers shepe.

¹⁶ Moreouer thus sayth the Lorde: Seynge the doughters of Sion are become so proude, and come in with stretched oute neckes, and with vayne wanton eyes: seynge they come in tryppynge so nycely with their fete: ¹⁷ Therfore shall the Lorde shaue the heades of the doughters of Syon, and make theyr bewtye bare in that daye. ¹⁸ In that daye shall the Lord take awaye the gorgyousnes of theyr apparel & spanges, chaynes, parlaftes, ¹⁹ and colares, bracelettes & hooues, ²⁰ the goodly floured wide & broderd rayment, brusshes & headebandes, ²¹ rynges and garlandes, ²² holye daye clothes & vales, kerchues & pynnes, ²³ glasses & smockes, bonettes and taches. ²⁴ And in steade of good smell there shalbe styncke amonge them. And for theyr gyrdles there shalbe louse bandes. And for well set hearre there shalbe baldnesse. In steade of a stomacker, a sackclothe, and for theyr bewtye wytherydnesse & sunneburninge.

⁹ Vp (ye ryche and ydell cytyes) harken vnto my voyce. Ye carelesse cytyes, marke my wordes. ¹⁰ After yeares & dayes shal ye be broughte in feare, O ye carelesse cytyes. For Harueste shalbe oute, and the grape gatherynge shall not come. ¹¹ O ye ryche ydell cytyes ye that feare no parell, ye shalbe abashed and remoued, when ye se the barennesse, the nakednesse and preparynge to warre.

³⁹ Peter arose and came wyth them & when he was come, they brought him into the chamber. And all the wydowes stode round about him wepynge and shewynge the cotes & garmentes, whyche Dorcas made whyle she was wyth them. ⁴⁰ And Peter put them al forth and kneled doune, and praied and turned him to the bodye, and saied: Tabitha, aryse. And she opened her eyes, and when she sawe Peter she sat vp.

¹¹ and that ye studye to be quyete, and to medle with youre owne busines, and to worke wyth youre owne handes, as we commaunded you:

¹⁰ For when we were with you thys we warned you of, that yf there were any whiche woulde not worke, that the same shoulde not eate. ¹¹ We haue hearde say no doubte that there are some whiche walke amonge you inordinately and worke not at all, but are besye bodyes. ¹² Them that are suche we commaunde and exhorte by oure Lorde Iesu Christe, that they worke wyth quietnes, and eate theyr owne breade.

¹⁰ and well reported of in good workes: yf she haue nouryshed chyldren, yf she haue bene lyberall to straungers, yf she haue washed the saynctes fete, yf she haue mynystred vnto them whiche were in aduersitie, yf she were contynually geuen vnto all maner good workes.

¹⁴ I wyll therfore that the yonger women marye and beare children, and guyde the house and geue none occasyon to the aduersarye to speake euyll.

⁵ to be dyscret, chast, huswyfly, good & obedyent vnto theyr owne husbandes, that the word of God be not euyl spoken of.

From Libanus haue they taken Cedre trees, to make the mastes: ⁶ and the Okes of Basan to make the rowers. Thy boordes haue they made of yuery, & of costly wood out of the Ile of Cethim. ⁷ Thy sayle was of white small nedle worcke oute of the land of Egipte, to hang vpon thy mast & thy hanginges of yalowe sylcke purple, out of the Iles of Elisah. ⁸ They of Sydon and Arnah were thy mariners, and the wisest in Tyre were thy shipmaysters. ⁹ The eldest and wisest at Gebal were they, that mended and stopped thy shippes. They shall cast dust vpon their heades, & lye doune in the ashes. ³¹ They shall shaue them selues, and put sacke clothe vpon them for thy sake. They shal mourne for the with hertfull sorowe, ³² and heauy lamentacion, yea their children also shal wepe for the. The kinges of the earth hast thou made ryche, thorowe the multytude of thy wares and occupyinge. ³⁴ But thou art nowe caste doune into the depe of the sea, al thy resorte of people is perished with the. ³⁵ All they that dwell in the Iles are abashed at the, and all their kinges are afrayed, yea their faces haue chaunced colour. ³⁶ The marchauntes of the nacions wondre at the, In that thou arte so cleane broughte to naught, and commeth no more vp.

¹ And Iosua rose earlye: and they remoued from Settim, & came to Iordan, bothe he and al the chyldren of Israel, & soiourned there before they went ouer.

² It is but lost labour that ye ryse vp early and take no rest, but eate the breade of carefulnesse: for loke to whom it pleaseth him, he geueth it in slepe.

¹⁶ When the poore desyreth any thinge at me, haue I denyed it them? ¹ To the chaunter, a Psalme of Dauid. Blessed is he, that consydereth the poore: the Lord shal deliuer him in the tyme of trouble.

⁹ He hath sparsed abrode, and geuen to the poore, hys ryghtuousnes remayneth for euer his horne shalbe exealted with honoure

²⁴ Seing then that I haue called & ye refused it: I haue stretched out my hand, & no man regarded it,

⁹ A louing eie shalbe blessed, for he geueth of his bread vnto the pore.

¹ Sende thy vyttuayls ouer the waters, and so shalt thou finde them after many yeares. ² Geue it awaye amonge seuen or eyghte, for thou knoweste not what mysery shall come vpon earth.

⁷ For ye shall haue poore men with you alwayes, & whensoeuer ye wyll, ye maye do them good, but me ye shal not haue alwayes.

¹³ Distribute vnto the necessitie of the Saynctes, and be diligente to harboure.

²⁸ Let hym that stole, steale no more, but let hym rather laboure wyth his handes some good thynge, that he maye haue to geue vnto hym that nedeth.

¹⁶ To do good, and to distrybute, forget not, for wt suche sacryfyces God is pleased.

²² And he gaue vnto eche of them chaunge of rayment: but vnto BenIamin he gaue .iij. hundred peces of syluer & .v. chaunge of rayment.

²⁴ Ye doughters of Israel, wepe ouer Saule, whiche clothed you in purple and garmentes of pleasure, and bordered youre rayment wyth ornamentes of goulde.

²⁰ Who so singeth a song to a wycked her hert, clotheth him wt rags in the cold & poureth vynegar vpon chalke.

⁴² And he toke of hys rynge from hys fyngre, and put it vpon Iosephs fyngre, and arayed him in rayment of bysse, & put a golden cheyne about hys neck

²⁶ And the weyght of the golden earynges was a thousande & seuen hundred sycles of golde, besydes brouches, ouches and garmentes of skarlet that were of the kynges of Madian, & besyde the chaynes, that were about theyr camels neckes.

¹ And on the thyrde daye put Esther on her royall apparell, & stode in the courte of the kynges palace within ouer agaynst the kynges house. And the kinge sat vpon his royal seate in the kynges palace ouer agaynst the gate of the house.

¹⁵ As for Mardocheus, he went out from the king in royal apparel of yelow & whyte, and with a great croune of gould, beynge arayed wt a garment of linnen & purple, & the cyty of Susan reioysed & was glad:

¹³ The kynges daughter is all glorious within, her clothyng is of wrought golde. ¹⁴ She shalbe brought vnto the kyng in rayment of nedle worke, & maidens after her: such as be next her shalbe brought vnto the.

¹⁶ I haue deckte my bed with couerynges & clothes of Egypte.

¹⁰ I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Tarus lether: I gyrthed the about with whyte sylcke, I clothed the with kerchues, ¹¹ I decked the wyth costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke, ¹² spanges vpon thy fore head, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a beutyfull croune vpon thyne heade. ¹³ Thus waste thou deckte with syluer & golde, and thy rayment was of fyne whyte sylke, of nedle worke & of dyuerse colours. Thou dyddest eate nothynge but symnels, hony and oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutiful, yea euen a very Quene wast thou:

³ Whose apparell shall not be outewarde wyth broyeded heare, and hangynge on of golde, other in puttynge on of gorgyous apparell:

⁸ And to her was graunted that she shoulde be arayed wyth pure and goodlye Raynes. For the Raynes is the ryghtuousnesse of Saynctes.

¹⁴ And the warryers whiche were in heauen, folowed hym vpon whyte horsses, clothed with whyte & pure raynes:

¹⁸ Iudges and officers thou shalt make the, in all thy gates which the Lord thy God geueth the thorowout thy trybes: & let them iudge the people ryghtuously.

¹⁹ Then let his father & his mother take him and bring him out vnto the elders of that citie and vnto the gate of that same place,

¹³ Daleth. She occupyeth woll and flax, and laboureth gladly with her handes.

¹⁴ And why? I put vpon me ryghteousnes, whyche couered me as a garment, and equyte was my croune.

¹⁰ Then arme thy selfe with thyne owne power, vp, decke the in thy ioly araye,

¹¹ There is sprong vp a lighte for the ryghteous, and a ioyfull gladnesse for suche as be true herted. ¹² Reioyse therfore in the lorde, ye ryghteous: and geue thankes for a remembraunce of hys holinesse.

⁹ Let thy Preastes be clothed wyth rightuousnesse, and let thy saynctes reioyse.

¹⁶ I wyl decke her Preastes with health and her saynctes shall reioyse and be glad.

¹⁰ And therfore I am ioyful in the Lorde, and my soule reioyseth in my God. For he shall put vpon me the garment of health, & couer me with the mantle of righteousnes. He shal decke me lyke a brydegrom, and as a bryde that hath her apparell vpon her.

¹³ Therfore thus saieth the Lorde God: Beholde, my seruauntes shall eate, but ye shall haue honger. Beholde, my seruauntes shall dryncke, but ye shall suffre thurste. Beholde my seruauntes shalbe mery, but ye shalbe confounded. ¹⁴ Beholde, my seruauntes shall reioyce for very quyetnesse of herte: But ye shal crye for sorowe of herte, and complayne for vexacyon of mynde.

²⁰ Then came he that had receyued .v. talentes, and brought other .v. talentes, sayinge: maister thou delyuerest vnto me fyue talentes beholde I haue gained with them fyue talentes mo. ²¹ Then his maister sayde vnto him: Well good seruaunt and faithfull. Thou hast bene faythfull in litle, I wyll make the rueler ouer muche enter in into thy maisters ioye.

¹⁴ but put ye on the Lorde Iesus Christ. And make not prouysyon for the fleshe, to fulfyll the lustes of it.

²⁴ and put on that newe man, whyche after the Image of God is shapen in ryghteousnes & true holynes.

¹⁰ but wyth suche as becommeth women that professe the worshyppyng of God thorowe good workes.

⁵ Lykewyse ye yonger submit youre selues vnto the elder. Submit youre selues euerye man, one to another, knyt youre selues together in lowlines of mynde. For God resisteth the proude & geueth grace to humble. ⁶ Submit youre selues therfore vnder the myghty hande of God, that he maye exalte you, when the tyme is come.

²³ But his wyfe said vnto him: If the Lorde woulde kylle vs, he woulde not haue receyued a burntoffrynge & a meat offryng of our handes, neyther would he haue shewed vs all these thynges, nor would haue tolde vs as he hath of thinges to come.

²⁴ and fel at his fete and sayde: Let thys vnhappye deade be counted myne, my lord, and let thine handmaid speake in thine audience, and heare the wordes of thy handmayde. ²⁵ Let not my Lorde regarde thys vnthryftye man Nabal, for as hys name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and follye is with him. But I thine handmayde sawe not the younge men of my lorde whiche thou sendest. ²⁶ And nowe my lord as sure as the lorde lyueth and as thy soule lyueth, the Lorde hathe witholden the from commyng to shede bloud and from aduenging thy self with thine own hande. Forthermore I praye God that thyne enemies and they that entende to do my Lord euyl, may be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this blessing, whiche thine handmaide hath brought, let it be geuen vnto the young men that folowe my Lorde. ²⁸ Forgeue the trespace of thine handmaide that the Lorde may make my lord a suer house, because my Lorde fyghteth the battelles of the Lorde, and there coulde none euill be founde in the in all thy lyfe. ²⁹ And yf any man rise to persecute the and to seke thy soule the soule of my Lorde be bounde in a bondel of lyfe with the Lorde thy God. And thy soules of thy enemies be slong in the midle of a slinge. ³⁰ And moreouer when the Lorde shal haue done to my Lord all the good that he hath promysed the, and shal haue made the ruler ouer Israel: ³¹ then shall it be no grudge of conscience vnto the or discourage of herte vnto my Lorde, that thou sheddest bloud causelesse and dyddest aduenge thy selfe. And moreouer when the Lorde shall haue dealt wel with my Lorde, then thinck on thine handmayde.

¹⁶ Then cryed a wyse woman out of the cytie, heare heare, byd I praye you Ioab that he come hyther, that I maye speake with him. ¹⁷ When Ioab was come, the woman said: art thou Ioab? And Ioab answered: the am I. And she said to him: heare the wordes of thy handmaid: And he sayd: I am ready to heare. ¹⁸ And she sayde: it hath bene a comen sayinge in the olde tyme, men muste aske of Abel, and then go to and fynyshe the worcke. ¹⁹ Abel is one of the quyetest and faithfullest cities that are in Israel. And thou goest aboute to destroye a cytie that is as a mother in Israel. Why deuourest thou the enheritaunce of the Lorde. ²⁰ And Ioab answered and sayde: God forbid, God forbid it me, that I should eyther deuoure or destroye it. ²¹ The matter is not so: But there is a man of mount Ephraim, Seba the sonne of Bochri by name, whiche hath lyfte vp his hand against king Dauid. Delyuer vs him only, and I will depart from the cytye. And the woman sayde vnto Ioab: Beholde, his head shalbe throwen thorow the walle to the. ²² And then the woman went vnto all the people in her wysedome. And they smote of the heade of Seba the sonne of Bochri, & cast it to Ioab. And he blewe a trompet, and they skatered from the cytye, euery man to his tent. And Ioab returned to Ierusalem vnto the kynge.

¹⁵ And she sayde to them: thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel. Tell the man, that sent you to me: ¹⁶ thus sayth the Lorde: beholde I wyll brynge euyll vpon this place, and on the dwellers therin: euen al the wordes of the boke, whiche the King of Iuda hath read, ¹⁷ because they haue forsaken me, and haue burntofferynges vnto other Goddes, to angre me with all the workes of their handes. Therfore is my wrath kendled agaynst thys place, and shall not be quenched. ¹⁸ But to the kynge of Iuda whyche sent you to enquyre of the Lorde, so shall ye saye: thus sayth the Lorde God of Israel, as touchinge the wordes whiche thou heardest. ¹⁹ Because thyne hert dyd melt, and thou mekedest thy selfe before me the Lorde, when thou heardest what I spake agaynst thys place, and the enhabiters of the same, howe that it shoulde be destroyed and made acursed, and tarest thy clothes and weptest before me: of that also I haue hearde sayth the Lorde. ²⁰ And therfore se, I wyll receyue the vnto thy fathers & wyll fet the vnto thy graue in peace, thyne eyes shall se none of the euyl whych I wyll bryng vpon thys place. And they brought the Kyng worde agayne.

⁴ So Esthers Damosels & her chamberlaynes, came & told it her. Then was the quene exceadingly astonyed. And she sent rayment, that Mardocheus shoulde put them on, and laye the sacke clothe from hym. But Mardocheus woulde not take them.

⁸ yf I haue founde grace in the syght of the Kinge, & yf it please the kinge to geue me my petycion, and to fulfyll my request, then let the Kynge & Haman come to the bancket, that I shall prepare for them, and so wil I do to morow as the kynge hath sayde.

³ Esther the quene answered & sayd: Yf I haue founde grace in thy syghte (O Kinge) & yf it please the kinge, then graunte me my lyfe at my desire & my people for my peticions sake: ⁴ for we are sold I & my people bothe to be destroyed, to be slayne & to perish: & would god we were solde to be bondmen & bondwemen, then would I hold my tonge, so should not the enemye be so hye to the kynges harme. ⁵ The kinge Ahasuerus spake and sayde vnto quene Esther: what is he that? Or where is he that darre presume in hys mynd to do such a thynge after that maner? ⁶ Esther sayde: the enemy and aduersarye is this wicked Haman. As for Haman, he was exceadingly afrayed before the Kynge & the quene.

³ And Esther spake yet more before the king, & fel doune at his fete, & besought hym, that he would put away the wickednes of Haman the Agagite, and his deuice that he had ymagened agaynst the Iewes. ⁴ And the king helde oute the goulden scepter vnto Esther. Then rose Esther and stode before the kinge, ⁵ and sayd: Yf it please the Kynge, & yf I haue found grace in his syght, & yf I be conuenient for the King, and yf it be accepted in his sight then let it be wrytten, that the letters of the deuyce of Haman the sonne of Hamadatha, the Agagite, may be called agayne: which letters he wrote, to destroy the Iewes in all the kinges landes. ⁶ For how can I se the euil that shal happen vnto my people? and how can I loke vpon the destruccyon of my kinred.

³¹ The mouth of the iust wilbe talkyng of wisdome, but the tonge of the frowarde shall perysh.

¹⁸ A sclaunderous personne pricketh like a swerd, but a wise mans tonge is wholsome.

²⁴ Fayre wordes are an hony combe, a refreshynge of the mynde, and helth of the bones.

¹⁵ With pacience may a prince be pacified, & wt a soft tong may rigoriousnes be broken.

⁸ Be thou an aduocate, and stande in iudgement thy selfe, to speake for all such as be domme & socourles. ⁹ With thy mouth defende the thyng that is lawful and right, and the cause of the poore and helpelesse.

¹⁴ (O my doue) oute of the caues of the rockes, out of the holes of the wal: O let me se thy countenaunce & heare thy voyce, for swete is thy voyce and fayre is thy face.

¹¹ Thy lyps, O my spouse, drop as the hony combe, yea milcke and hony is vnder thy tonge, and the smel of thy garmentes is lyke the smell of frankyncense.

⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth and there was no wickednesse founde in hys lippe. He walcked with me in peace & equite, and dyd turne manye one awaye from their synnes.

Beholde now from henceforth shall all generacions cal me blessed. ⁴⁹ For he that is mightye hath done to me great thinges, and holy is his name. ⁵⁰ And his mercy is on them that feare hym thorowe out all generacions. ⁵¹ He sheweth strength with his arme, he scattereth them that are proude in the ymagynacion of their hertes. ⁵² He putteth doune the mightye from their seates, and exalteth them of low degre. ⁵³ He fylleth the hongry with good thinges, & sendeth away the ryche empty. ⁵⁴ He remembreth mercye, and helpeth his sernaunte Israell. ⁵⁵ Euen as he promysed to our fathers Abraham and to his sede for euer. ⁵⁶ And Marye abode with her aboute a .iij. moneths, and retourned againe to her owne house.

¹⁵ And al that sate in the counsel loked stedfastlye on hym, and saw hys face as it had bene the face of an aungel.

⁴ but let the hyd man of the harte be vncorrupte with a meke and a quyete spyryte, whiche spyryte is before God a thynge muche set by. ⁵ For after thys maner in the olde tyme dyd the holye women whiche trusted in God, tyer them selues, and were obedyente to theyr husbandes

⁸ In conclusyon be ye all of one mynd, one suffer wyth another, loue as brethren, be petifull, be curteous, ⁹ not rendringe euyll for euyll, neyther rebuke for rebuke, but contrarywyse, blesse, remembryng that ye are thervnto called, euen that ye shoulde be heyres of blessinge.

¹ A wise woman vpholdeth her house but a folish wife plucketh it doun

⁶ We requyre you brethren in the name of oure Lorde Iesu Christ, that ye wythdrawe your selues from euerye brother that walketh inordinatelye and not after the institucyon whiche ye receyued of vs.

⁴ to make the yong women sobre mynded, to loue theyr husbandes, to loue their chyldren,

¹⁹ And thervpon Bethsabe went vnto kynge Salomon to speake vnto hym for Adoniah. And the kynge rose vp agaynst her & bowed hym selfe vnto her, and sat him doune on hys seate. And there was a seate for the kynges mother, and she sat on his right syde.

¹⁶ O Lorde, I am thy seruaunt, I am thy seruant, and the son of thy handmaide, thou hast broken my bondes in sonder.

¹ O how pleasaunt are thy treadinges with thy shoes, thou princes daughter? Thy thinges are like a fayre iewel, which is wrought by a connyng worke master: ² Thy nauell is like a round goblet, which is neuer without drynke: Thy wombe is like an heap of wheat, set about with Lylies: ³ Thy two brestes are lyke two twynnes of yong roes: ⁴ Thy necke is as it were a tower of yuery: thyne eyes are lyke the water poles in Hesebon, beside the porte of Bathrabbim: thy nose is like the tower of Libanus, which loketh toward Damascus: ⁵ That head that standeth vpon the is lyke Carmel: the heare of thy head is like the kynges purple folden vp in plates. ⁶ O how fayre & louely art thou, my dearlyng, in pleasures? ⁷ Thy stature is like a date tree, and thy brestes like the grapes. I sayde: ⁸ I will clymme vp into the date tree, and take holde of hys braunches. Thy brestes also shalbe as the vyne grapes, the smell of thy nostrels lyke the smell of apples, ⁹ and thy throte like the beste wine. This shalbe pure and cleare for my loue, his lippes & teth shal haue their pleasure.

⁴ From this tyme forthe thou shalt neuer be called the forsaken, & thy land shal no more be called the wildernesse. But thou shalt be called Hephribah, & thy lande Beula: for the Lorde loueth the, and thy land shalbe inhabyted. ⁵ And lyke as a younge man taketh a doughter to mariage, so shall God mary him selfe vnto thy sonnes. And as a brydegrome is glad of his bride, so shall God reioyse ouer the.

¹⁵ and for as muche also as thou haste knowen holy scrypture of a chyld, whiche is able to make the wyse vnto saluacion thorowe the fayth which is in Christ Iesu. ¹⁶ For al scripture geuen by inspyracion of God, is profytable to teache, to improue, to amende and to instruct in ryghtuousnes, ¹⁷ that the man of God maye be perfecte and prepared vnto all good workes.

²⁷ to make it vnto hym selfe a glorious congregation wythout spotte or wrinckle, or anye suche thinge: but that it shoulde be holy and wythout blame.

⁷ The feare of the Lord is the begynnynge of wysdome. But fooles despise wysdome & destruccion.

²⁵ that thou lust not after he beuty in thine herte, & lest thou be taken wt her fayre lokes.

¹³ With me is the feare of the Lorde, and the eschuyng of euell. As for pryde, dysdayne, & euell waye, & a mouth that speaketh wicked thinges, I vtterly abhorre them.

²² A fayre woman without discrete maners, is like a ringe of golde in a swynes snoute.

¹⁸ It is good for the to take hold of thys, and not to let that go out of thy hand. For he that fereth God shal escape them al.

¹³ Let vs heare the conclusion of all thinges Feare God, and kepe his commaundementes, For that toucheth al men:

¹⁵ But thou haste put confidence in thyne owne beutye, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou haste commytted whordome, wyth all that wente by the, & hast fulfilled theyr desyres:

⁶ Both were perfect before God, and walked in al the lawes and ordinaunces of the Lorde, that no man coulde fynde faute with them.

²⁹ but he is a Iewe, which is hyd within, and the circumcisyon of the herte is the true circumcisyon, whiche is in the spirite & not in the letter, whose prayse is not of men, but of God.

⁵ Therfore iudge nothinge before the tyme vntill the Lorde come, who wyll lyghten thinges, that are hyd in darckenes, and open the counsels of the hertes. And then shall euery man haue praise of God.

¹¹ The sonne riseth with heat, and the grasse widereth, and hys flower falleth awaye, & the beautye of the fashyon of it perysheth: euen so shal the ryche man peryshe wyth hys aboundaunce.

⁷ that youre faythe ones tryed beynge muche more precyous, then golde that perysheth (though it be tryed with fyre) myghte be founde vnto laude, glory, and honoure, at the apearynge of Iesus Christ

²⁴ For all fleshe is as grasse, and all the glorye of man is as the floure grasse. The grasse wyddereth, and the floure falleth awaye,

² For thou shalte eate the laboures of thyne owne handes: O well is the, happy art thou.

³⁰ The frute of the righteous is as the tree of lyfe, a wyse man also wynneth mens soules.

¹⁶ Zain. She considreth lande, & byeth it, & wyth the frute of her handes she planteth a vyneyarde.

¹⁶ Ye shall knowe them by their fruites. Do men gaddre grapes of thornes? or figges of bryers?

²⁰ Wherfore by theyr fruytes ye shal knowe them.

⁷ For ye shall haue poore men with you alwayes, & whensoeuer ye wyll, ye maye do them good, but me ye shal not haue alwayes. ⁸ She hath done that she coulde: she came afore hande to anoynte my body to hys buryenge warde. ⁹ Verelye I saye vnto you: where soeuer this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole worlde, this also that she hath done shalbe rehearsed in remembraunce of her.

³⁹ Peter arose and came wyth them & when he was come, they brought him into the chamber. And all the wydowes stode round about him wepynge and shewynge the cotes & garmentes, whyche Dorcas made whyle she was wyth them.

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those thynges, where of ye are nowe ashamed. For the ende of those thynges is deathe. ²² But nowe are ye deliuered from synne, and made the seruauntes of God, and haue youre fruyte that ye shoulde be sanctified, & the ende euerlastynge lyfe.

¹ I commende vnto you Phebe our syster (whiche is a minister of the congregacion of Cenchrea) ² that ye receyue her in the Lorde as it becommeth saynctes, & that ye assiste her in whatsoeuer busynes she neadeth of youre ayde. For she hath suckered many, & myne owne selfe also. ³ Grete Prisca & Aquyla my helpers in Christe Iesu, ⁴ whiche haue for my lyfe layde doune theyr owne neckes. Vnto which not I onlye geue thankes, but also the congregacyon of the gentyls.

⁶ Grete Marye whiche bestowed much laboure on vs.

¹² Salute Tryphena and Triphosa, whiche women dyd laboure in the Lorde. Salute the beloued Persis, which laboured in the Lorde.

¹⁷ not that I desire gyftes, but I desire aboundaunte frute on youre part.

²⁵ Lykewyse also good workes are manyfest before hande, and they that are otherwyse can not be hyd.

¹⁰ For God is not vnryghtuous that he should forget your worke and laboure that procedeth of loue, which loue you shewed in hys name, whiche haue mynystred vnto the saynctes, & yet mynyster.

¹³ And I heard a voice from heauen, sayinge vnto me: wryte. Blessed are the dead, whyche here after dye in the Lorde euen so sayth the spyryte, that they may reste from their laboures, but their workes shal folowe them.
