⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, and said: If we say, From heaven; he will say to us, And why did ye not believe him?

¹⁵ John testified of him, and cried, and said: This is he, of whom I said, That he cometh after me, and is before me; for he was prior to me. ¹⁶ And of his plenitude have we all received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by the hand of Moses; but the reality and grace was by the hand of Jesus Messiah. ¹⁸ No man hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, he who is in the bosom of his Father, he hath declared him.

³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who is before me, for he was prior to me.

³⁴ And I saw; and I testify, that this is the Son of God.

²⁶ And they came to John, and said to him: Our Rabbi, he who was with thee beyond Jordan, and of whom thou gavest testimony, lo, he also baptizeth; and many go after him.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath life eternal; but he who obeyeth not the Son, shall not see life. but the wrath of God will abide upon him.

³³ Ye sent unto John; and he bore testimony to the truth. ³⁴ And I have not received testimony from men: but these things I say, that ye may live. ³⁵ He was a burning and shining lamp; and ye were willing for a time, to glory in his light.

²⁵ And while John was fulfilling his ministry, he said: Who, suppose ye, that I am? I am not he. But lo, he cometh after me; of whom I am not worthy to untie his shoe-strings.
